Is this possible with mesmer?

Using a shatter skill sends your illusions running towards their targets. While they are running they do not count towards the three illusion cap. So if your target is far enough way and you have the proper traits to support it, it’s possible to have a dozen illusions out on the field simultaneously.

At the very least please allow for other people to get rid of the noise. I can’t stand it when someone is right next to me firing horses in every direction. Enjoy your legendary, but please don’t ruin my experience for it.

That sort of sums up some of the “choice words” that have been directed at me. I feel when my bow negatively impacts someone else’s experience — even to the point of a party member asking me to drop out of the party because they “can’t stand another minute of that bow!” — then a solution is worth investigating.

It’s good to get this feedback. I’m really happy that we’re talking about this, and that one of our team members is willing to look at possible changes. But by no means is such a change a given, and other suggestions are appreciated, as well!

Or… Stay with me on this one… You could try not rolling in a group of 6 – 10 spawn camping?

This is like those players that send me hate whispers when I sit inside a supply camp and stare at them until they stupidly decide to fight me with all the NPC’s on my side, then they die. I didn’t make them do anything. I just sat there in a spot that was advantageous to me and they took the bait.

Don’t fight people near portals or better yet, don’t expect people to want to fight you at all when you have a group of friends behind you. Hope you were a part of the farm fest last night by the way. It was great cornering [QQ] in their spawn with my friends until you guys took a different exit. Doesn’t feel very nice does it.

Charr and Asura female precursor armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seabreeze.8437

Seabreeze.8437

sigh…. once again we get male version of armor…

A forum vote was such a lame idea since most ppl who are not happy with something are the ones who are usually on the forums.

My thoughts exactly. The thousands of players who likely never go to the forums are in for a surprise when all of the sudden their charr and asura armor is changed.

You could have at least set it so we can choose ingame between male and female versions…

This has been suggested time and time again. I would love this, but by now it’s likely never going to happen, unfortunately… Anet just hasn’t shown much interest in a feature like this. -_-

I’m not saying the cups were great, but with as little female-variant armor as we have for charr and asura… sigh, oh well.

I honestly wouldn’t have mind these armors if they were a bit… ‘remixed’ to fit the characters a bit more.

The best suggestions I’ve seen about this topic are: give players the choice of what version you want to use or alter the tops to make them suitable for charr and asura (more work, I know, but Anet made the choice to make charr and asura as playable races). Instead, we’re going to get the same old “let’s just go with the male armor” thing again. How dreadfully dull… >_<

What is your expectations for WvW guilds?

in WvW

Posted by: Phantom.8130

Phantom.8130

To raid for 2 hours every couple nights and usually lose half the map.

To blame every failure on “pugs not in TS”

To spam “get on the tag, get on TS” in map chat, and nothing else except for their guild recruitment info when their raid is over.

To shamelessly pat themselves on the back no matter how badly they failed.

To act as though their main commander is a messiah.

To expect reverence and fealty from the lowly peasants that don’t have the same tag over their head.

To not have anyone handle map maintenance or defense (or, at most, have 1 girl doing it) then complain when areas get lost.

To behave like frat boys who are too drunk to go to class and will end up flipping burgers for a living.

To avoid anything that even vaguely resembles “work” or “effort” or heaven forbid “strategy”

To be farming PvE during tough matches, yet back in force during easy matches, asking people to leave the map so they can get their full guild in.

To come and go, to bandwagon onto the server then bandwagon off just as fast when their egos aren’t appeased, or get bruised.

To implode under the weight of their own drama.

To try to dictate everything about their players’ game time. From classes, to builds, to roles, to playstyle, regardless of what works and fits the player best, and then to try to expand that outwards to others not in their guilds.

To essentially be cults, complete with indoctrination, removal of analytical thinking, and demonizing anything and everything outside the cult, and especially to demonize and harass anyone who presents logic and facts to disagree with them.

Yeah, it’s not an ideal nor pleasant list, but I have realistic expectations from guilds. Granted, this doesn’t hold true for all guilds, but this list is accurate for the majority that I’ve seen. Though it should be noted that this isn’t limited to any one server, nor even just this game.

The potential for communication is still there; it just comes in other forms. I think the positives of automatic upgrades far outweigh what may have been lost.

That said, I still wish people would communicate more…A sentry dot isn’t something I can run across the map for, but if someone lets me know that there’s more to the story, I can respond appropriately.

About the communication you can add the new sentry.
Before when I was defending camp / protecting keep I was always saying on /map that I see a small ennemy group, where they are moving. Or the roaming guy always give information for other players.
But now with the new sentry no one speak on the map… You just follow the red dot… No more communication between the players.

I have stop playing gw2 for month now… Sometimes I jump in eotm for 1H but I don’t do anything more now… I was used to play for hours on my BL, scouting hills, protecting our supply camp..

As I said some time ago, and thanks for finding that quote, Qugi, we don’t do “name wipes” on a regular or even irregular basis. It may be that at some point in the Guild Wars 2 future there’s a “reset” of names, but I have not heard anything of that being planned or even proposed on our side.

Lots of forum members have given some good ideas for naming your character and any work-around that may be needed for a taken name. I feel sure you’ll come up with something that suits you.

The 21 day long sale was worse than Amazon’s Prime Day. Anet what are you thinking? How about some old school skins back from the first few months of the game? Instead of all this stuff that’s been released within the last 6 months, I mean c’mon. Is that really too much to ask? I have no doubts that if you were to throw the Wide Rim Glasses back up, or the ANET Ball Cap or even the Bunny Ears… You’d probably find yourself with enough money to fund your entire expansion extravaganza.

I've redesigned the UI & the official website

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hi guys,

I’m a Senior UX UI designer and I’ve been playing GW2 since the betas, with long breaks in-between and since I’ve spent quite a lot of hours with this game, I’ve noticed some flaws in the games UX (user experience) and thus I decided to tackle it in order to diversify my portfolio. This lead me to redesigning some of the in-game UI’s & the official website.

About the project
The project started last summer, as I was redesigning my portfolio website, I wanted to take a break from my regular website design so I started redesigning the GW2 official website, since I missed working on a more creative & artsy website. This last holiday season I had a few days free so I decided to continue this project and tackle the in-game UI’s since I wasn’t really a fan of how some things were currently done.

What I’ve redesigned

  • Looking for Group Panel & the related tabs
  • Character Panel
  • Guild Tab
  • The Story Journal & the related tabs
  • Created a Lore Journal & related tabs

The Entire Design in PDF format – Horizontal layout

The Entire Design in JPG format – Vertical layout

Note
There are a lot of explanations that point out to different things & the reason behind my design decisions. The entire project took roughly 2-3 weeks, so It could be better, but unfortunately I don’t have access to actual game or player data and I kinda ran out of free time.

Hope you enjoy.

UPDATE:
Since some of you wanted to see how this would look in-game, I made a quick in-game prototype:

In case some of you are interested in seeing the behind the scenes process like the research, sketches, what I learned and so on, feel free to check out the link from my portfolio.

Best rewards ever. If you think you have too many, then use them for skill points.

Because I always need skillpoints?

Free skillpoints. If you see that as a bad thing then I don’t know what to tell you…

I have 350 on my ele alone, why do I want more of them.

Do you complain about the free items in the gemstore? I am curious. Also, skill points have multiple uses and if you feel like you really have no use for them then delete them. It still does not make sense that you see it as a bad thing.

I just do not do the things that require skillpoints. So for me they are not usefull , I believe that was the OP’s question.

And next people that only play one character complain that we get 5 characterslots
because THEY have no use for them and those empty slots annoy them to hell ^^

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

I’m only PvE player as well as most of my guild. I think this game is no longer interesting for me and my guildmates. We just move to other mmo’s that are better for ppl who need challange for 18+.

I don’t know if you’ve read this yet, but as someone in their mid-fourties, I urge you to do so:

Critics who treat ‘adult’ as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.
~C.S. Lewis

2 years ago I remember this game to be challenging, unique and breathtaking, but many of the old devs are no longer working in ANet, their ideas and spirit they’ve put into the game are gone long ago – I’m talking about those ideas which made me buy and support this game. For me it was solid gameplay with dark, fascinating and mature story.

And what changed is that you’ve been doing the same thing for two years now. Of course it’s not going to be as challenging and breathtaking to you as before. This has nothing to do with age.

ANet was from the very begining of GW2 with you, and after all this time you need to show me when to use my heal skill? WTF? That’s annoying, really. Don’t treat me like 12 year old kid, I want to figure out things for myself, and this game is too much “kid freindly” to do it now.

What does this have to do with 12 year old kids? They improved the user interface to add another indicator that you’re about to die, as opposed to just the health sphere. In real life you would experience a great deal of pain and weakness, but since this level of realism isn’t yet available in computer games the developers have to make do with the available technologies. Have you checked your interface options to see if you could turn this off? If you’re such a pro, how are you even getting to the point where these indicators kick on?

We waited for Guild Halls, we waited for GvG mode, we wanted duels, we wanted challenges, we waited for new expansions that we could buy. Dynamic events on maps, yes, that was cool at the beginig, but in endgame whey are just something that you pass on the map if you aren’t afk in LA.

What do those have to do with age? Granted, much of this has been on the back burner for a while, but it hasn’t been ruled out. As for expansions, I’m pretty sure that ArenaNet has always stated that while expansions haven’t been ruled out, they had never planned to do them. Instead we get Living Story.

Living story – I never was fan of it, I knew that small parts of content won’t keep me online in game for long – just like those dynamic events. It’s like too thinly spread butter on a slice of bread. If you are hungry you will eat it, but after so much time with those slices you got sick of them.

What are you expecting out of an expansion that you aren’t getting out of the Living Story?

Our guild, like many other old ones, needs something big, and I mean like really big! Also make sure that new content is tested, we don’t like to be free beta-testers after final launch of the game.

This is kind of ambiguous, but I hope ArenaNet gets something big out for you soon.

Please ANet, treat old players with respect – they are were your main supporters!

I’m an old player (in terms of real life age), and I feel respected. I’m not sure what you’re talking about.

I’m going to go ahead and lock this thread, at this point, further discussion on anything other than bearbow math isn’t really important and can happen on another thread if needed.

Truth be told, using bearbow math (an unproven system that may or may not lead to random photobombs…see below) isn’t always going to be exact. However, this player did not need to use bearbow math as they violated the laws of bearbow science and used a 3rd party program which is not allowed. Thats why they were banned, not because they were bad at bearbow math.

Lets talk about loss of exclusivity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Politician.3548

Politician.3548

I think exclusivity, unless it is tied to a skill test, is pointless. It’s a video game, played by hundreds of thousands of players. Trying to be a special snowflake is meaningless.

For the record, I’ve been here since the first beta weekend, and have my share of items that are no longer available in game, so this isn’t just sour grapes.

But, what about bragging rights, proving I was there, etc?

Why does anyone need to “prove they were there”. Do you think newcomers really care that you played the game a year before they did? Aren’t your memories of enjoying it at the time enough? You really need some sort of shiny to make the experience meaningful? This “need to prove I was there” is akin to the bizarre urge to constantly photograph things rather than experience them when sight seeing, or the need to keep up with the neighbors in price of car and the vibrant green of your lawn.

But, won’t everyone look the same if everyone can get all the armor and weapon skins?

Only the people who jump on the most recent items. Sure, for the month after a new skin is released, every other character in Tyria is wearing that piece, but when the next thing comes out, they’ll move on. Remember when everyone had a SAB weapon? Or holographic wings? You still see them around now, but sprinkled here and there on players who decided they fit the look they wanted.

The real secret to everyone not looking alike is having enough variety of quality skins in game. The more options, the more player’s individual taste will cause there to be a variety in looks. Especially if ANet gives us mix-and-match armor pieces instead of must-be-used-as-set costumes.

But it should be at least as difficult to get the item when it comes available later, right?

Not necessarily. As I said above, the newest thing is usually the most desirable. You have to work harder if you want to be an early adopter, like in real life. When it gets released later, it makes perfect sense for it to be more accessible to those who didn’t get it the first time, and the early adopters can chase whatever has been just released. This is common in many areas of life.

Other than GW2, I’ve never paid more than $7 for a video game, because I’m content to wait two to three years and pick it up on a Steam mid-week madness sale. I’m playing the same game (actually, sometimes an improved game due to patches/mods) you spent $50 on back when it was released. Does that upset you?

I’ll reiterate, exclusivity does make sense if you are talking about a particularly challenging skill test to get the reward. I’m not an elite player by any means. I’d likely never have rewards locked behind knowing an encounter inside out and split-second dodging skills. Still, I see the value in providing exclusive rewards for people who really excel at the game.

Exclusivity because you’re willing to grind out thousands of a particular crafting mat or just because you were playing during the two weeks the item was available? We don’t need that. It takes time for ArenaNet to develop every item they add to the game. We need maximum access to those items so that the content is as full as it can be for any player. Sure, rotate it out to keep it fresh (my wife does the same with my kids toys), but nothing should be kept out of the game permanently so that a small section of the player base can feel special.

Thank You! Nice post. people should quit crying and get on with their life; It’s A GAME!

Are we board with this game or just MMOs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: chemiclord.3978

chemiclord.3978

I do think there IS a degree of “been there, done that” in the MMO genre. But I also believe that is because of PLAYERS, not DEVELOPERS.

People, as a general rule, do NOT like change. They don’t particularly like new things. They like what they are used to, and I don’t think it’s any accident that a large part of “suggestions” on these forums are for things that have become convention to the MMO genre (combat trinity, power creep in gear and character progression, instanced raids, the dreaded “m word”).

Players are their own worst enemy at times. We CLAIM we want new stuff, but in reality, we want to go back to OLD stuff (the cries for expansion are by far loudest for Cantha, an area GW1 already visited). It’s certainly not LIMITED to the MMO market; for example, for all the crying that other games and movies are just recycled sequels, if you look at the sales charts, sequels and remakes outright dominate.

Players are the greatest force of stagnation in our games. We DON’T want new. We DON’T want different. Just give us more of the same. We kinda… WANT to be bored, because it means that we aren’t getting pushed out of our comfort zone with what we know we like.

Will Anet ever make Non-DPS role important?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: chemiclord.3978

chemiclord.3978

I think PART of the problem here is in the thread title; players who are still insistent on a “role.”

That’s simply not how the game was designed. You are expected to do damage, AND provide boons, AND provide control as the situation warrants. If you aren’t doing all three, you are not maximizing your character’s potential.

Secondly, the gear you wear (regardless of its prefix), really isn’t optimal across the board. Go ahead and take your ‘zerker gear into a PvP match. You will most likely get ’rektd’, and very possibly by the condition damage over time scorned upon by the PvE community.

WvW is a LITTLE more forgiving, but even then, ’zerker gear is not optimal, and even builds without SOME points down the vit and toughness lines are more likely going to be regarded as “lunch” as opposed to this unstoppable force of nature.

The “problem” is that in PvE content, especially in the open world, you can overwhelm content with sheer numbers, and those numbers quickly make boons fairly irrelevant and generates so many stacks of Defiant that control is nigh entirely worthless. That IS a design issue, but it really is a very narrow one in what amounts to a pretty small amount of the content… but its one that a LOT of people zerg towards. It probably does need to change, somehow, though such “trains” also seem very popular, and they tend to get angry when they are changed even superficially.

In dungeons/fractals, there is one established “experienced” meta… which sad to say folks, is NOT unusual for ANY MMO. The meta is always going to be pretty narrow, and it’s not simply a matter of “changing the AI or the stats.”

If you could magically solve all the server problems with condition caps, jack up mob armor to over 9000, scale condition damage even higher, and give the mobs attacks that you need toughness to survive, the only thing that would happen is “zerker or GTFO” would become “rabid or GTFO.”

We, as players, REALLY need to stop railing against the min-maxers like they are some overwhelming force. Because they will ALWAYS exist, and if there is any way to squeeze out just a little more raw numbers in a game, the “hardcore” players (and pretenders) WILL find it, and they WILL insist on it if you are to group with them.

Whether you like it or hate it… you might as well be kittening into the wind.
