We should clearly get rid of all the BLs, get rid of EotM, and just have EBG by this argument. Which would just be silly. We need maps that are different, even maps that are less popular. Nothing would be more boring than having four identical maps to play on.
Would it be silly though?
Yes it would be, because not everyone likes ebg, or alpines, or desert, or eotm. Makes no sense trying to lock players for weeks or months at a time out of the map they do enjoy, however many that might be, that’s forcing people not to play. Taking alpines out for 6 months was a very damaging mistake to wvw.
And yes designing borderlands was a terrible mistake in the first place, gives them little option these days having 2 borderland maps. Every map should have been ebg in design.

“Game over man, Game Over!” – RIP Bill
Oor used to be so epic around launch. When I got there on my Warrior I had to actually learn to play my class. I soloed most of the HPs back in the day. That took a lot of planning and plenty of deaths. Then it got nerfed. At least HoT brought some of that old difficulty back, I loved having to experiment with new builds and learning enemy weaknesses.
You’re right, SoD and Oor should have a quality pass done on them, and the difficulty restored to pre-nerf levels.
As another silly thought, why can’t you drive enemies off cliffs?
THIS!!! i NEED this!!
You know, one thing that’s always cracked me up in games is how everything is suicidal to the point where they just want you dead. Evil minions make sense, but wild animals you accidentally tap would make a little less.
What would you think if there were more enemies that would be much more shyer to fight and try to disengage if they’re going to die? Would that just be more annoying to chase enemies down?
As another silly thought, why can’t you drive enemies off cliffs?
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
No. I was traumatized in gw1. No one ever wanted my stuff. /sob.
A most tedious, boring waste of “play” time that I never want to experience again.
ANet may give it to you.
I’d like to see revenant get a SB as perhaps a condi weapon. Hammer is the only ranged weapon and it’s power based for them.
@OP I despise map completion. I have almost everything I need to make my legendary just from WvW and PvP. While I enjoy doing PvE maps I enjoy doing it on my terms.
But to put it frankly so what. Legendary items in games aren’t supposed to be an easy thing to get. And if it was ONLY stuff we enjoyed then yeah it would be easy. Or worse completely RNG based in order to keep EVERYONE from having one.
So im working through map completion bit by bit. You can do the same with WvW.
Often the dailies are incredibly easy. Are there gonna be roamers to kill you? likely. But there are sentries near your spawn on your Bl. Which are relatively safer. You can click on a camp and look at the map to see how active the area is around a camp you want to flip. Reducing teh risk of you running into another player. You can ask for HELP flipping a camp. Server hostility makes it almost a guarantee someone on your map wants to stab someone on the other server for you.
You can run a build solely dedicated to running away on a class with high mobility or stealth uptime.
Or you can learn how to fight and get the satisfaction of KILLING the SOB’s that got in your way.
Is it gonna be easy? No. But getting a legendary item shouldnt be easy. The gift of battle for you is much like the gift of exploration for me. Likely the hardest part to complete. But like the gift of exploration all it takes is TIME. I get your in a rush and you feel like this is holding you back. But honestly if there WASN’T systems built like this into legendary weapons theyd be completely useless.
Be glad this game doesnt go down for a whole day a week. Also be glad wvw isnt down for hours before a reset as it was on launch. Maybe it was a bad timing yeah but its bearable with these things in mind.
Haha I remember the first month of BDO… it was like yeah of course it a new game, there’s gonna be a couple of downtimes. Game is down for 6+ hours every other day. Maintenance? Half a day. Critical bug fix? Half a day. Minor bugfix no one notice? Half a day. And most times it came back online the mobs where broken so they had to bring it down the next day again. Tbh its one of the major reasons I quickly tired of it. For GW2 that period was like… a weekend (I can remember a longer downtime on launch week, but memory is a bit fuzzy).
Overall the patching engine and GW2 server system is literally amazing, yet the devs probably get zero praise for it lol. Its almost never down and patching have zero downtime. I dont think any other existing MMO can match it tbh.

This has been resolved.
Sorry, we disabled a few too many servers, and when the reset hit, most people had nowhere to go as we are hitting peak time in NA. Fixed by re-enabling some hardware.
~Elementalists are going heal bot because of the stats like minstrel and nomads allowing them to tank so much why constantly healing with their auras. This is really the most boring and pathetic way to play Elementalists. Elementalists are meant for so much more than just be heal bot.
And yet throughout the entire lifetime of GW2 people have always been like “no trinity, why cant I play healer in GW2 this game suuuuuuuuuuuck!”…
Well, people don’t actually know what they want. No surprise.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
So I have read through most of this. And even though I agree with most of you on the way you would like Anet to communicate, I disagree with the way your calling them out.
They have repeatedly informed everyone of how they intend to communicate! You must (no matter how unnerving it is sometimes) accept their terms, or simply move on. Those are your options atm as I see it.
I now that will not make me Mr. popular, but that is ok too. These “devs” are human too. And they do not need to respond to everything you think is wrong with WvW. Maybe someday they will change their policies, and hold a more open communication line with their customers! Let you know about what all they are planning! But until then you need to respect their way of communicating to us.
Ranger is definitely the best. I would use the beastmastery line for stronger pets and also improves your shouts to give swiftness because mobility is king in Open World.
You can easily solo champions. And yes, other classes can too, but it’s much more forgiving.
That being said, anything is good really.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
^ Pedantry is strong in this one today.
The gossamer patches are a killer, even for basic insignias. I feel for any of you guys that use medium armor.
Last time i checked, gossamer insignias cost the same for any armor weight.
Yes, I just meant that medium users will be having to use leathers to make the insignias + the armor which is more expensive.
Anyone starting the game and wanting to craft is gonna be a little daunted. Lol.
You can complete all three Orrian maps without anyone doing any of the metas.
If you’re struggling with Hero Challenges, purchase [Ash Legion Spy Kit]s from Kyra Sharptracker, the Renown Hear NPC at Sharptail Encampment (Plains of Ashford). Buy a stack of about 25 of them for karma, and use them as you approach the hero challenges. They are particularly useful for the Statue of Balthazar hero challenge, and the one near Plaza of Lights in Malchor’s Leap.
As for Straits of Devastation, if the giant gate is currently closed, you can walk round to get in from the west, wade through the water and eventually you’ll come to a gap which you can enter and continue your exploration.
Over hyped jumping puzzle anyway. Good riddance.
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
What is this SAB you’re talking about? Didn’t play it, won’t miss it.
Heh… Orr was originally so “hard mode” that they nerfed it to state its in now….
So, no… Anet is unlikely to offer hard mode maps.
I ran across this the other day. Some of you may have seen it before but I thought I would share.

n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.

Just something for everyone to keep in mind while interacting with others in game and on the forums.
Very true. In addition, it was only a few days back when I was reading two posts of yours that I was reminded of this old thread about interacting on the forum and game.
I got the idea for this thread from several observations. The main one being my own behavior in this forum. While I am generally a very kind person, this forum as with many I have been a part of, can bring out my smart kitten side pretty quick. When I stepped back and evaluated that, I came to the conclusion that I was being overly judgmental of others that play the game.
Yes there are a lot of posts I don’t agree with or that I think are just plain ridiculous. However, in real life if I hear someone say something in public that I think is stupid I don’t get into some debate over why I think what they said was wrong. I just go about my business and often think to myself that I hope they have a better day. I don’t care for constant complaining but it really gets too much when I find myself complaining about complaints.
So reflecting on all these posts I have been involved in and, admittedly rude at times, I started thinking about the person on the other side of the screen that I can’t see. I thought about how I felt as I purchased and downloaded the game. How excited I was once the install was complete and when I first made my first character. So then I thought about this other mysterious person living in wherever and I imagined they felt the same as I at one point. I started thinking that this is a real person that wakes up everyday just like me and they want to have a good day which in many cases means enjoying the game.
The thing about the Internet, and I found this out early during the USNET years, is that since you can’t see that person you forget that they have feelings as well. It’s easy to forget that maybe they just had a bad day and an unpleasant gaming experience later in the day was kind of the final straw leading to rage posting on the boards. It’s easy to forget that when they click the login button they want to have fun also. It’s the reason for playing a game and people like to have fun.
So where am I going with this? I thought it would be a good idea to brain storm some random acts of (kindness) in game to maybe make that random person smile for a second, maybe make their day a little better.
Here are a few things I have done:
*When I see a player that is obviously new and low level running around lost, I help them for a minute. Then later on I mail them a few coins and or maybe a piece of armor they could use. I simply write “Welcome to GW2” and attach the coin/item. I imagine as a new player something like that might give them a brief smile.
*If I see a downed player in PvE I rez them and if they are not down leveled I mail them some coin with a note that says, “Thought you could use some coin to help with your repairs.”
*I shadow obvious new players and only jump in if they get in a real dicy situation then disappear and do it again for a bit.
*I’m maxed on cooking skill so when I get low level cooking mats that don’t sell for much I’ll just mail them to some random name I see in my area with a note that says,“I bet you are hungry after all your travels.”
*I haven’t done this yet but I think once a day when I see some negative posts here I’ll just send one of those people that are unhappy some small gift. Something that has been in my bank and I will never use or sell. (Disclaimer: Please don’t start posting negative threads just to have a chance at a prize.
)
Anyway, these are the main things I do but I’m looking for more and hope others will share ideas and participate. The thought isn’t to give your bank away but just some small token of (kindness) that might just make someone think, “That was nice.” even if just for a minute.
tl;dr
I’ve been rather rude here at times and I apologize. I’m really a pretty decent person in real life. I think most here on both sides of arguments are as well. The idea is fun and to some degree I am guessing when everyone logs in each day the idea is to add something pleasant to their day. So let’s help random people out with that. Please share other ways myself and others might just send our own little “token” to random players as a way of saying in game, “Hope you are having a good day.”
P.S. (kindness) due to overly aggressive language filter.
Edit: all of us should take the time when responding to remember that’s another person you’re talking to.
ANet may give it to you.

This is great advice that we can all learn from, myself included. There are entirely too many occasions where I find myself clicking that Reply button a bit before my brain has actually formulated a non-combative response. I can do better. Thanks for posting this reminder.
It’s easy for us all to “fly off the handle” sometimes and not be considerate of other viewpoints. Everyone has their own unique experience, not just in GW2 but in all things, and two people experiencing the same event from different perspectives might have completely opposite opinions of what took place.
I love the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, by the way. Their YouTube channel is downright moving sometimes.

Ranger is the best solo class in the game for PvE. Necromancer and mesmer are also good, but the ranger is still best for solo play in PvE from level one to level eighty. And that class does everything you mentioned with ease.
Is there a specific set up that should run? Weapons and pets?
Longbow and sword/axe or warhorn or greatsword for swap. Take 2 cats because they do the highest damage for core pets, swap them on the off chance they actually get hurt.
No way your or your pets ever die.
Edit: If it gets too boring and you start to learn the game, use sword/axe + greatsword and ditch the longbow. Melee is much more interesting than just standing at range watching things attack your pet.

Lots of ways. It could:
- Decrease all extrenal healing you get by 85%
- Decrease your own healing by 33% (as if you had permanent poison, and yes poison would stack on top of this)
- Not allow you to gain boons applied by other players, or all boons applied by other players have 50-75% less duration
- Condis you have can’t be cleansed by external skills, you have to cleanse them all yourself
- Take 20-33% more damage from mobs
This would allow other players to help clear events with you, but you’d pretty much be on your own combat wise, as any support they could directly give would be ineffective. As an added precaution, any bonus rewards could be removed if you are in a large group (though I’m not sure how easy this would be to quantify)
There’s no need to split any maps.
All that needs to be done for a challenge mode for a NPC to offer you a handicap debuff. Like Fractal instabilities, you will have various disadvantages piled on you based on certain conditions, enemies will put a bigger focus on killing you, and you will get additional xp/magic/gold find/gathering/map bonuses The bonus increases the higher level map you go.
In addition, if you go down or are defeated, you lose this effect, and must wait 15 minutes to reactivate it again
This will not increase the rewards from world bosses, in order to stop people from activating this buff and leeching off of other people. In addition the threshold for tag credit is increased as well.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

This has been debated many times. As posters have stated, the game could not sustain the fragmentation of the playerbase. Who would go to to Tequatl in nm when they can go to hm for better rewards? It would do damage to the long term feasibility of even having metas.
The other issue is, what will happen when those mastering it get bored? Demands for an even harder map? Abandoning altogether?
Anet want their open world accessible and encouraging cooperation across all skill levels. True challenge modes are rightfully reserved for instanced content.
If you want hard mode, stash your gear in a safe box and equip whites. I’d think that would be as close as you could get. After all, the concept of mega servers and joined WvW worlds is to get people playing together, not spread out even more.
