WvW does seem a bit more quieter lately. Could be the matchup I’m currently in that isn’t very fun at all, but seems a bit lower on the numbers.

Anecdotally my impresssion is that the player base is declining every day.

Well I don’t know what servers you both play on, but on the one im on, ive watched commanders from my home world berate and belittle players from the linked server, commanders refusing to tag up, because they don’t like x y z, just the other day there was a commander on EBG who outright said to the group following him, " f*** o** this is a training raid" yes a training raid with 8 people in EBG against the zerg of 50, good game.

I have watched this progressively get worse over the last few weeks to the point where the numbers on the map are getting smaller and smaller, then the players/guilds who berated/belittled the players are then crying they cant get numbers on fight the enemy,

Anet may have neglected WvW for the most part, but its not all them, the players themselves are a big reason why people are leaving.

Let’s be honest, Gw2 totally takes the grind for gear and turns it into a grind for cosmetic. Good or Bad it’s the only reward we got. In my opinion, it is bad. Economics in this game so important I betcha a typical player would never get anything done in the game without the market. Bad design that could be fixed if unique skins had separate unique ways of earning them and had achievement titles mixed with them. How cool would it be to earn the sword Infinite light through a collection and add it permanently to your celestial or hellfire armor sets to pull and be put on any skin you want from achievements! I think it’s dumb some credit card pro swiper could come out more glossy and shiny than a 5yr veteran who spends 90% of their time in the game with their friends.

Vet here since 3 day early release and I have to seriously counter what you have said here.

Early on in the game I would spend real money to buy things that I felt I needed/wanted. Such as extra char slots, max out all bag slots for those chars, endless tools, and maybe the odd skin here and there. At the time I had no issues spending that cash as I thought/felt that I was supporting the game as well as giving me some nice convenient items to help me play the game.

Fast forward to today and I don’t need to spend any REAL money in game any more. No I don’t farm in any traditional way. Heck I don’t even play much anymore. It’s just fact that when I do play I make gold without trying. So if I see something new I like I can usually transfer gold for the gems I need. Actually I am somewhat smarter than that now. I save my gold and when I reach a certain amount I check the gold to gem rate, if it is lower than 100 gold for 400 gems I will make the trade and save them for when I need them. I have also got a fair few from Achievement chests too.

My point is, real vet’s get to the point you don’t need anything from the gem store anymore or if a glossy new skin that is worth it does come along you can usually cover that with what you have. I am sure there are many players like me.

So to counter your argument this game is “grind for cosmetic”. I would say only if you make it so. That or you don’t play a heck of a lot or as much as you may think you do. That or you may waste your time standing around chatting (in a city) or doing things that are not productive at all in anyway shape or form. Again I say that I don’t FARM to make money so no I am not saying you should be either. There are many variables to this game however with how one can spend their time (possibly waste it) ,but there are also plenty of ways to make cash while having fun as well. So who knows how you play differently to me or others…

Okay back on point now, this game needs players that buy gems with real money. Vets need these players to keep the game running if we do stop purchasing things with real money ourselves. I don’t know why you have issue with players who spend real money for skins. It is far better than anything similar to “pay to win” or a subscription model.

I completely forgot the content guide existed. I only ever turned it on if I couldn’t find the last POI when I was completing a map, and then they added the option to just hover over the map completion info to be shown them. So now I never use it.

But I can’t see any reason not to add the option to disable everything except events, since apparently people use it for that reason.

The problem with doing anything is that it will upset a large portion of the wvw playerbase. The last time they did something big (Desert Borderlands) it killed off many wvw players. And if they did start listening to our ideas, who would they listen to? The roamers who want to punish all zerg play? The players who want condi removed? The K trainers who play for loot?
It seems the safest course of action for Anet is to do nothing.

WvW you may like it you may not but who cares if you do or not. This post is merely to bring attention to the situation under going a “neglected” portion of the player base. WvW to me is the main reason I play GW2, the combat system is nice and fun and it emodies the Games name “Guild Wars” a place were Guild actually fight. So what about WvW? Well this game is going into its fifth year soon (congrats Anet), and PVE content has dramatically expanded in so many ways that made the game much more fun.

WvW on the other hand has been left in the Dust. Yes there was a new map (Desert Borderland which is everyone’s least favorite) Yes we get the benefits of the new Elite Specs, but that is it(yes bug patches and tweaks to the Shrines but nothing Major) Where is the new content? If you ever play any competitive game then you know how important it is for there to be something new in the mix to shake up the player bases skills and knowledge.

The only thing for WvW we have to learn is that we cant break certain walls anymore in the game because “PHYSICS” and new Build Metas (Separation of WvW Meta should be different from PVE). Don’t bring up PvP because pvp is a failed mess(its fun but its not good enough for esports Sorry.) For my main and Final point. What is the WvW player base doing right now, we are currently holding on too whatever morality we have left to play (There is a good number of Guild that don’t play the PVE content which is ok).

I know Guild that have disbanded because they don’t find it fun to do the same thing in the same ways 4 years straight. I have seen players leave and Guilds leave to other Games that offer a similar experience (ESO, has a system like WvW that is very fun btw). Soon enough the player base will die out in WvW. What can be done to help? Talk with us more, we want to hear from the WvW team often (yes there is a negative view against Devs but its with reason)

But if we get feedback and more communication from the team showing us a reason to stay thats all we need. But as of right now we have nothing to look forward too and most of us won’t wait in hopes the next expansion will bring something new.
TL -DR, Anet talk to WvW player base more before we leave

All Classes should be able to move same as fast (in PvE).

That’s a design preference, not a requirement of a balanced game. And it’s present in this game: all classes can move as fast; they just have to make different tradeoffs to make it happen.

Regardless, this thread is about expanding the utility of the singular enrichment slot — is it sufficient to buff only four things? (especially since one of the things has no value to people with maxed masteries or core-owners without HoT, and the other three have niche value). If not, what else could be added to the mix? The OP suggested a movement bonus, which isn’t realistic for many reasons. Surely, we’re a creative enough bunch to come up with other things.

heya… I’m the one who was recorded in that video. where is my portrait rights… just kidding.

We developed that build about 1 years ago and occasionally practised, despite we know this would be meaningless.
You think raid team can use this? This build doesn’t show enough high dps to meet the time limit that all raid bosses have.

This tactic is nothing but a troll. We can’t also get the capture point, all players with spvp experience might know already.
We can do almost nothing but the demonstration against Pin sniping, Siege Humping and the current Condition bombing meta.

Anyway, if you think we use some kind of outside help… that would be easy to say. But as I said, we developed and practised for a long time. I don’t care whether someone blame us or not but please don’t show a disregard for our effort.

I don’t think we would have gotten it even if it was released. This was most likely designed for their release on the Asian market, and, I’d wager, at the request of NCSoft in Korea.

Then I guess they didn’t find it very lore-friendly to see a bunch of females dressed up like school girls walking around to fight Zaithan and decided to never release it. Obviously this is all speculation.

I’d actually like to see a return and improvement of the town clothes feature. They didn’t even give a chance to that feature they just cut it in 2014.

Like countless other things about GW2 at launch, I thought the idea behind town clothes was awesome but the implementation was terrible, because you had to manually turn it on and then turn it off, which means that you would only use it when you’re in a role-playing mindset.

Town clothes needed to automatically revert to armor upon entering combat.

The game also needed a opt-out setting that can make your character automatically put on town clothes in town, after X minutes spent in town, etc.

When I play pvp and one team has a numbers advantage the match is rarely fun, even on the winning side. 4 v. 5 is just not fun.

With the current way servers work, and the way population is distributed almost every wvw match-up is significantly unbalanced.

So get rid of servers as they are currently designed, they don’t promote good even fights, or reward effort, or are even particularly fun.

Create a new server system, one that is more responsive to population shifts, yet still retains the sense of community our current servers have.

A map roughly the size of DBL with no objectives, only obstacles. Hills, forests, lakes, etc.

Everyone killing everyone 24/7. Only safe places are spawns and “recovery camps” which are circular capture points that function similarly to supply camps but without NPC’s and a weak wall surrounding it. 10 players can destroy the wall in 30 seconds, 30 can destroy it in 10. Prevents turtling but still gives a place to hide/regroup if things get hot.

All sides are granted a buff called “Versus The World.” The more allied players you are with the more damage you will receive. This buff begins to stack when more than 10 players are travelling together.

Every two hours a “Killing Spree” begins. This event lasts for only 5 minutes and marks every players position on the mini map. Being killed during this event times you out for the remainder of the Killing Spree (maximum of 5 minutes if you are killed at the very beginning) and the winning side is granted access to a “Charr Car Parlor.” Entering this shop allows players a one time Charr Car use that ends on death. This shop can be destroyed by enemy players but spawns in random locations.

There are 3 oasis on the map that any player can use. Entering the water randomly heals one player on the map for 100% of their health with a 60 second cooldown. The player healed has a chance to also be the player that enters the oasis. More than 5 allied players entering the water at the same time instead marks these players on the enemies map for the next 60 seconds.

EDIT: I wrote all this down on the spot so I’m already having second thoughts about some of it, namely the “Versus The World” buff. I’d like something that prevents people from blobbing up and mowing down smaller groups or it would be a really crappy game mode. Everyone would move to one server like we have happening now but it would be twice as boring. I’m not sure a buff that causes you to take extra damage is the right choice but something that deters people from the hive mind at least. Small scale skirmishes happening all over the map would be really cool to see and play, imo.

Sweet merciful Dwayna bless me. You ask players to create ideas for the perfect WvWvW, but sadly I think a quote will probably hold true here. From the Rust, and Garry’s Mod developer. Garry Newman,“Players are useful at conveying mood and a feeling. They’re not game designers, their ideas generally involve making it so they can win at the game more.” Quote from here. While the guy comes off abrasive to me, there is a point. A lot of posts here do tend to favor certain play styles when it comes to WvW’s feedback.

I get that the OP’s wants people to post their perspective on their version. But how useful is this really to the current WvWvW?

All I can say is, without trying to exclude other play styles is this: change WvWvW to WvW. This opens up more map opportunities, and increases balance viability of said maps. This also removes the laggy elephant in the room when it comes to three-ways by full forces. I would go on to say let maps reset once every 2-3 hours to decrease effects of coverage, but I’m willing to disregard that.

I don’t think that movement speed should be part of professions. I think that everyone should have access to it. If there are PvP / WvW balance issues, they can already have separate traits from PvE.

Everyone has access to increased speed. Everyone. What varies is the sorts of tradeoffs that must be made to obtain it.

It’s a very common design feature in all sorts of games, even Chess. The burden is on those asking for this fundamental change to explain how it would benefit Guild Wars 2 to remove it. I’m open to being convinced; I just haven’t seen anyone making an argument other than, “I don’t like it” or “it’s unfair.”

Regardless, the thread is about whether Enrichments should include a buff that increases movement speed. The proposal was for a universal increase — that goes against the idea that Enrichments have no impact on combat.

A proposed alternative is to increase speed when out-of-combat. I think that’s also a bad idea for Enrichments, even for PvE. It makes the specific buff too important for everyone to have (putting pressure to get ascended gear on all toons), it makes for a huge difference between veterans and newer players, and it makes it all too easy to ignore some of the common hazards of navigating maps. Worse, it makes being put in combat for common-but-odd reasons too painful, e.g. a short fall, a misclick, your pet refusing to disengage, and so on — those would all be too annoying for words.

tl;dr love the idea of expanding what enrichments can do; I don’t think movement speed should be part of that.

…because ANet wants me to minimize real money expenditures on the game.

Or promote them by forcing everyone to use the trading post with all its TP barons and inflated materials prices and…
[/tinfoilhat]

You’ve got it backwards. The more people using the TP, the more likely it is that most items are easily obtained at lower prices, as suppliers undercut each others. There’s a lot of attention devoted to the exceptions; don’t let that distract from the value that a truly global economy has. For comparison, just look at how much can be made in other games with server-local economies, by buying in one location and selling in another.

The sell-unwanted-to-buy-desired-goods philosophy isn’t without problems, of course. But like democracy, as bad as it sometimes is in practice, it’s better than anything else out there for most people, most of the time.

What GW 2 could learn from BotW

So let me get this straight, you guys want ANet to make GW2 more like a single player game?

I don’t think that’s a fair assessment of the requests. I think the requests are for more open world experiences within GW2.

Exactly. Its just about the world design. GW2 is an Multiplayer game and should stay one, but that does not mean that nice features of singleplayer titles cannot be adapted into a multiplayer game.

I said it somewhere else recently, but … I’d love to see an MMO company that experimented with the policy: “this team needs to ship something new every two weeks”.

The goal being that, eg, new dynamic events, mini-boss events in the world, gradually grown quest chains, etc, ship on a routine basis, and the team become expert at getting things done fast. Bonus points if it included adding new creatures, textures, bones, etc, on a routine basis to just gradually expand further and further across the range of things that you run into in the world…

I don’t know if it would work out well, but it’d be an interesting experiment to be sure!

So then finally to the stuff why could probably see in future. Maybe in an expansion, maybe in Guild Wars 3 (if that will ever become a thing) or maybe in a complete other MMO ….. who knows?

A living breathing world: One of the biggest accomplishment which immediately hit my eye was how much character and complexity the world has. Enemies perform different activities like hunting, dancing, sleeping and sitting together at the bonefire instead of just standing on their spawnpoint and waiting to get killed. Wildlife will spot and flee from you, wolves will run away if they loose number advantages etc etc. The world is just so ….. alive ….. I think there was an thread about improving wild life in Guild Wars 2 just recently and most people said that it should only have a low priority because it does not really create new content. That ofc is true but I was surprised on how much immersion and atmosphere the game creates of details like that are done right, so I wouldnt underestimate it.

Oh what lies beyond those mountains?: One thing BotW Overworld does exceptionally well is the ratio between content and size. The world is scaled with purpose in way that there are parts which are just empty. While that sound contraproductive it really enhances the gaming experience. The most common way in which players play the game goes like – see something in the distant, plan to go there, get distracted, get distracted from the distraction, forget where you wanted to go in the first place, see something in the distant …… and so on. Which leads in most cases to the feeling of “getting lost in the world” (in a positive sense of course)

Weapon durabillity: The whole endgame discussion would be obsolet if your ascended weapon would just break after using them a few times and you have to farm them again …… ok just kidding

Total Freedom: Climbing……. You can climb everthing in BotW. EVERYTHING. That opens the map in an unbelievable way and make every hill to a new goal, every wall to an obstacle, every mountain range to a challenge. Works extremely well with gliding.

See those mountains in the background? You can get there!: One thing every zelda does extremly well is the placements of Points of Interest (Like Death Mountain, temples, Hyrule Castle etc). Those can be seen over miles away in the distant. In this game there are also travelling merchants etc which tell you stories about places and cities from the other side of the map. That generates a thrill of anticipation to finally go to those distant places and explore them first hand.

Probably most of what I have written, requires at least a new expansion (when not even a new game at all) to make it happen. But I am really waiting for an MMO which is based on these design philosophies ……..

At this point, I think the biggest holdup is that it was designed for the old town clothes system. They’d have to redesign the items as a set of skins, an outfit, or a tonic. Tonic would probably be easiest, but least liked. A set of skins or an outfit would be more popular but more complicated, due to the need for color channels.

It’s probably on someone’s to do list, but with a low priority. I hope they get around to it sooner or later. I’d buy it.

Better match ups would help. Too bad good match ups can’t happen with such varying server populations. Maybe there should be more bonuses to outnumbered situations. And I don’t mean a map wide outnumbered buff like the one we already have. I’m talking about one that boosts your stats based on how much the nearby enemy outnumbers you. This way gank and roaming squads can run around with buffed up stats when there’s nothing to compete with them. If there’s no zerg around, there’s no bonus.

I’m aware of Tyler’s posts, which if you read them don’t ever promise a 3rd borderlands map. I just wanted to clarify that nowhere in the polls did we say anything about creating a 3rd borderlands map, even though that is stated as a ‘fact’ over and over again on the forums.

relax McKenna, don’t need to be so defensive although i understand… in my opinion you are doing good with the general content of WvW. You are getting flamed because the general discontempt from the general WvW state, that actually the most grave thing is balance. Nothing to do with your works as right now actually.

Once balance is addressed and we as customers and player don’t feel cheated by the game mechanics, and all seems fair and the other teams that affects this game mode actually communicate and the forums mods are updated to version 2.0, you will notice how the general salt in this forum dilutes…

Sadly, there’s no way to impact any decisions regarding general balance until something in PvE breaks. There is next to zero attention given to WvW’s balance issues, and very little effort is made on making the design of the professions better for competitive play, and actually minimal effort to change balance issues has been ANet’s motto since 2012 via “low hanging fruit” fixes, regardless of the underlying needs for change. ESL players have made extensive complaint threads and during competitive events broken down the weaknesses of the game and why it was suffering/has suffered the fate it has in attempts to get resolutions from the profession devs. Nothing has changed. I sincerely doubt it’s that they’re unaware of the problems. It’s just that for whatever reason, someone doesn’t care enough to make it a priority.

We saw how important reworks are in how the ranger CDI made the entire existence of longbow a viable option for the ranger in the game and in general improved the class massively. We’re still on pre-rework-anything for 8 other professions five years later.

People shouldn’t be flaming the WvW devs, though. They really should be flaming the PvE devs for killing small-scale with the guild hall buff changes and the terrible excuses for balance and diversity we have at the moment.

Well people from both sides need to just shut up about it already and move on.
Stop trying to convince the other side, people hate it, people love it, move on.
It’s not going to get removed, move on.
There’s three other maps to play on if you don’t like it, move on.

That’s why I hate these forums sometimes, people come in here bringing up the same kitten over and over again when it’s full well known a change will not be made, move on.

I might be inclined to agree if ANet had not chosen to establish the precedent that sufficient complaints will convince them to reverse course on some even more fundamental design decisions than this.

I’m soooooo sick of these DBL threads. It’s like beating a dead horse that has putrified, turned to goo, and is now mush from decay and all the beatings. Some of you don’t like the DBL. We get it. But guess what? No one cares.

The majority of people either like it or are ok with it. I think the amount of people who would not play because their guild or commander is running on DBL is almost non-existent. The only time I’ve ever lost people is because they’d rather go to EB to be in big zerg fights. But that’s not the same thing as not playing because it’s DBL. DBL does NOT have more or less people playing on it than ABL just because it’s the DBL. More or less people play on it because an objective is there being hit and an enemy or ally responds. I guarantee that when big bad BG has DBL as home, it gets a lot of action.

On reset nights, guilds actually sign up for DBL. This is very telling as we don’t know who we’re fighting yet and we don’t know what server is what color. This is soley chosen because it’s the DBL. I know lots of folks who prefer DBL. The past polling supports these perspectives.

So, please, have a reality check. If you don’t like the DBL that much, THEN STOP PLAYING OR GO TO ANOTHER MAP!!!!! I’m so sick and tired of seeing these threads with the same dumb complaints in them made by totally ignorant people who obviously haven’t played DBL since beta. And even if you are really familiar with DBL, know all the shortcuts, know all the best ways to appoach a structure, know how to solo tower lords and 3 man keep lords, and you still hate it, then just be an adult, kitten, and go to EB or ABL.

Not only am I sick of seeing these posts, I’m deathly afraid that the devs will do something stupid, like getting rid of it, cause there are just a few squeaky wheels out there constantly kittening every day about an issue that was dissected ad nausium and settled a long time ago. GET OVER IT.

It’s very entertaining to watch so many people from both sides claiming that the respective opposing side is the noisy vocal minority. But it still remain a fact that DBL is a polarising topic with many people either extremely like it or extremely hate it. I mean, you don’t see threads after threads of people calling to remove ABL or EBG.

Can we not have a middle ground here? It’s great that many gimmicky mechanics are slowly being removed from the borderland. But there are still many core frustrations remaining – such as the fire keep, or the isolated objectives that serves minimal advantage in capturing the next objectives (i.e. north/south towers). Also (my personal pain point), the vertical design is still a pain to traverse through – NOT TO MENTION HAMMER WARRIOR STILL KITTEN ON SLOPES. etc. I prefer to see the DBL stay, but really wish it will at least have some huge overhaul at the scale of things like repositioning objectives, redesign some terrains, etc…. It’s also a good marketing push to get people to try DBL again… Noone is going to change someone who outright refuses to play DBL just because a few little gimmicks here and there were removed…

I also voted in favour of hoping to get a third map… Only now I realise the wording -_-… I’m a susceptible person, just like a standard, normal human who doesn’t have a hobby of critically analysing every word and their intents that’s posted on the forum for a game I’m supposed to be having fun playing.

Send me 1000g and I will stop trolling WvW forum.
