I personal always liked hybrid>dps>bunker.
Bunker is great if you have a team with certain roles or competent teammates. If you don’t it’s pretty much useless.
DPS is also great, but there are some classes and builds that will just roll you in a second. Plus it’s less effective in team fights.
Hybrid has always been my favorite. You do everything well, not great, but well. So you are useful in any situation. Doesn’t matter if your teammates are stars or terrible, either way you help.
Overall the moral of the story is play what you like and excel at. For me that’s hybrid.
Heavens Rage
No – I play a warrior, so I just place my face on the keyboard and roll it from left to right and people die.
really bad engineer
So the time has come where I’ve decided to leave serious pvp in this game and severely reduce my playing time. I know a lot of people have been asking about my guides and the updates after the patch but unfortunately I will not continue to be a part of the pvp community.
Just so people know:
- This isn’t a “Got knocked off Clock Tower too many times, hate this game” or “Energy Sigils don’t work half the time, Treb doesn’t sound sometimes, hate this game” or anything of that sort. I’m not raging.
- I no longer have time due to a recent promotion and my last year of uni will be starting soon.
- I will not continue streaming regularly.
- I will not be playing pvp or even pve regularly.
- If I’m on you can message me and play some casual pvx.
- I will continue coaching for the reduced price of 5g/session for a team or free for individual players.
The biggest thing that hit me a few days ago was that this is a game, I should be playing to have fun and I just really haven’t been having fun recently. Defeats the purpose of playing entirely.
I posted this here because I feel closest to the Guardian community =)
Thank you for all your support and feel free to still ask questions etc, I will ALWAYS respond.
PS. For those of you who still want to donate to me, even though my policy is no donations and I still get them, you can still donate if you really want to because I’m going to casually get a legendary.
Tanky dps zergs (ptv or ctv gear) with a lot of healing and regeneration from guardians is unstoppable and all that berserker guys do nothing vs that, only die and rally enemies, and the damage comes from the entire group (lot of players nuking one point at same time), not from damage dealers without defense who dies in the first enemy nukes. Organized groups with high HP guardians is amazing (ptv + cleric trinkets weapons and HP stacks)
In roaming i play support with a lot of blinds, protections, blocks and heals, my team easily absorb that berserkers nukes (tanky + protections + blinds + heals > damage glass cannon) and zerkers die only by perma retaliation in the majority of cases.
And i have 20k health pool. 3200 armor and 1200 healing power. with 3100 attack damage. You cant hit me for 17k.
Can u tell me what u have gear to get those stats?
Comparing vs a full stacks (sigil, food, wvw traits) thief in my reply, i get that stats with:
PTV armor with melandru runes, full cleric trinkets with soldier weapons or cleric weapons if you want more hp. 5 stacks of defense against guards and 25 stacks of sigil of life. Lemongrass and sharpening stone.
So your crit chance is effectively at nil~ -.-
I am support, not damage dealer. I have a team with tanky damage dealers. If you wanna do damage you need to sacrifice support via traits and losing hp. But, guardians shine on support, i chose to play as support and is effective for me and my team. You can play as damage dealer and you can be effective too.
Condition damage healing power guardian is the new meta
If cure like hell means curing conditions…
I can ‘cure like hell’ in Berserker gear.
I think he means like healing his health points, but I can see where it might be thought of as curing a condition. Final Fantasy games are the same way and its is one of my biggest “grammar correcting” issues I have with the series since their healing spells are derivatives of Cure and their disease/poison spells are from Heal. Probably a translation issue from all the back to the very first one.
Virtues are not balanced for PvE vs PvP vs WvW they are balanced for combat which is tuned for generally 1-5 combatants. Whethe or not they are effective in a given encounter depends on that encounter. Sometimes they are more useful as passive abilities and sometimes they are more useful as actives. Finally, they are not balanced against other skills specifically, they are balanced as the class mechanic of the Guardian profession which is an effective profession in nearly all if not all content.
Do you feel they are just like signets?
I don’t feel powerful when virtues are up and I do feel at loss when they are gone. Virtues become semi decent when you invest 30 points into the Virtue line. But which class has to invest heavily into a trait tree to make their class mechanic useful?
Lets look at the virtues:
1. Virtue of Justice: Guardian doesn’t have a condition build, so this isn’t very useful. It only becomes useful when you trait into radiance for blind and refresh voj when you kill a enemy.
2. Virtue of Resolve, very low passive regen. But wiki states that VoR is suppose to make up for Guardian’s low innate health:
“Virtues have been said to help balance the guardian; for example, they have a lower base health than the warrior profession but compensate for this with their higher health regeneration granted by Virtue of Resolve.” Warriors have better passive health regen than guardian does.
The active heal on vor isn’t particularly bad, but the cool down on the virtue is.
3. Virtue of Courage isn’t particularly good either. Aegis every 40 sec and a on demand aegis with a 90 second cooldown. Is aegis considered that powerful that it requires long cooldowns? Blind spam is a better alternative, though against bosses who are immune Aegis is better. But then every class has the ability to dodge, which is fulfilling the same purpose aegis would.
I just can’t see how Virtues are a class defining mechanic or how they are powerful. Warriors adrenaline skills feel powerful, Mesmer’s class mechanic is unique, same with necro, thief, engi and ranger. But guardians are just a poor mans signet.
If you feel I’m mistaken in my perspective, by all means enlighten me. And maybe I can begin to see the guardians class mechanic from a different perspective.

Yes, we know that you consider our Virtue of Resolve to be good, so good infact you gave us the lowest tied health pool in line with Thief and Elementalist. 10.8k i belive, and in exchange we have 84 (0.06) health regeneration.
And that is supposed to be if we don’t use the active one. Then we lose out of the passive one, cause having low health for a free crap regeneration was not bad enough allready.
Account and Char® name could
be the same, Profanity!?
This week, bunker guard vs bunker guard. Next week, canceled due to unfinished guardian duel after 7 straight days.

The OP is a troll, crusading all the non-warrior forums, moaning about how OP everything that isn’t a warrior is. His rants have included; Lemongrass, bear pets, the new nerfed pet leash range, melee rangers, ele’s in any form at all, condition mitigation, and warriors don’t do enough damage.
Essentially, if he’s posted it, there’s no real reason to acknowledge it. In his little trolly mind, he just scored a hit against the Guardian class.
Oh, he’s the Lemongrass guy. That explains it.
Painbow.6059: Ignore what anyone else who doesn’t agree with me has said because its wrong.
Oh this guy again.
This thread and OP in particular has more flip-flops than a house of pancakes.

Altruistic Healing is not overpowered just because a lot of people use it.
This indicates that other traits need to be buffed, actually. When a particular trait is a “go to” trait for just about every build, that means that it’s either OP (which it isn’t in this case) or other traits aren’t good enough to make them viable options over it. Looking over the options, Alt Healing is just a better trait to take. There’s no reason to select the others over it. They just aren’t good enough. Gimping the class isn’t the right answer. It’s a Mob response.
“Vinnie, I don’t like how Altrusitic Healing is so good over these other traits. Go break it’s kneecaps so the other traits don’t look so crap by comparison.”
“Right, boss.”
fans hate Joffrey. They hate her the way Star Wars

I’ll add something productive whilst ignoring our friends.
First of all, there is nothing saying that DPS and AH cannot mix. I run full Zerker with trinkets to make sure my baseline damage is acceptable, because a Guardian without Power and Prec at the very least on their armor simply won’t be damaging much at all. Being deep into Valor, in order to get AH, I also pick up an additional 30% crit damage. That brings my crit damage to 89% and my crit chance to 38%, which could obviously be better if my focus was more damage. Depending on how I run my traits, this nets me 4.5k-5k Mighty Blow crits, 3k-3.5k from Orb of Light crits, and 1.5k-2k auto attack crits. I do crit fairly often, too, especially in battle when things like Fury are getting activated.
So what’s up with the AH? Why would I run that instead of Radiance for more crit? Because I run dungeons with PUGs and with friends who just don’t have the time to play for the hours each day it takes to become completely comfortable with dodging and mitigating damage. In other words, I play with real people, who can make mistakes (myself included). When I’m in full zerker without any self sustain, only support and DPS, those mistakes usually end up as a party wipe (or several).
Having very significant healing on top of my support and my damage helps in those cases. This isn’t a theory. I have suffered through dungeons in full Zerker, traited for DPS, unable to perform well because the other players simply weren’t performing at that level either. With a glass build you aren’t relying on heals to keep you alive, you’re relying on your party to not mess up. I’d rather be able to carry a bad group through a dungeon and succeed than out DPS everybody but fail because someone missed a dodge.
I still have 30 in Honor, which is something that was addressed on the first page. Someone said they’d rather have Honor than Valor. Why not both? I can run Superior Aria and Pure of Voice AND Altruistic Healing. The only way you’re getting more support out of a Guardian is by running 30 Honor/30 Virtues/?, which kind of saps the whole “deal damage” thing that seems so important. Also, the heals I get from AH ARE helping my party. When I use Empower, my party gets 12 stacks of might. When I use Stand Your Ground, my party gets Stability and Retaliation. When I use Hold The Line, my party gets regen and protection. I’m using these skills anyway, especially the shouts, because I have Pure of Voice and Superior Aria. Why not get some healing myself for them? Sure, a lot of the time I’m at 100% HP and barely utilizing the heals. But when kitten hits the fan? Yes, please, thousands of extra health.
I’ll stop rambling now, just wanted to add something productive for players who aren’t sure what to do. There are a lot of choices. I’m apparently using a suboptimal build and experiencing great success with it, which is why I defend it. Your mileage may vary.

-snip-
The dead zerker will be doing more DPS than the other players.
Case in point, I did Arah story recently, we got to the mouth of zhaitan after killing the three AA turrets (btw haven’t done this fight in months so couldn’t remember a thing) and I spammed a basic DPS rotation and evaded all of the obvious attacks. At one point I didn’t time my dodge fast enough and downed. Nobody res’d me and I died, but I’m pretty sure I had almost solo’d the boss’s HP down to 25% because the last 25% of HP went down excruciatingly slow.
If all 5 of you were running zerker and didn’t time their dodge fast enough and downed, nobody would res anybody, all of you would be dead, the boss would regenerate the 75% of its HP you took from it and nobody in your group did any damage at all. Therefore in that scenario, your DPS = 0. Then the lot of your would pay armor repairs and run back, and start rage quitting on the 2nd time this happens. That last 25%, excruciatingly slow bad DPS that took down the boss is what saved the day.
And dont say that doesnt happen that all 5 of you zerkers go down at the same time, a single AoE blow can 1hit the lot of 5 glass cannons stacking.
True though that 5 people doing 75% of the boss’s HP worth would have killed that boss 4 times over a long time ago, however you are not safe from an early AoE blow that just wipes your whole zerker party.
Yes, I have seen 4 noob zerkers wipe themselves the moment Slavedriver of CoF1 turned red-name, and i had to finish the boss solo. Know what else happened? They asked me to wipe. So i should kill myself and pay armor repairs because you cannot run your build right?
At the end of the day, fight experience and good internet(those who dodge the boss correctly) is all that matters to run Zerker right.
The best advice when running zerker, is to have a Warrior ready to drop Battle Standard on you the moment you go down.
Seriously, dont run support Guardians, just get a Warrior with Battle Standard.
Battle Standard alone is better support than any full support, Guardian or not, build anyone can run.
Zerker done right is the best. Zerker done wrong wipes and resets the boss.

OP, since you specifically mentioned dungeons, just slap on zerker gear and run whatever spec you want. Nobody is going to notice/care what traits you have on. I leave AH on when I do dungeons on my guardian because I use it in wvw zergs and am too lazy to respec. At worst, alpha dies 30 seconds slower. Nobody cares.
I think you’re confusing damage with DPS. I’m pretty sure even after I died, my average DPS in that fight was still higher than the bads I partied with since they all camped range.
You are confusing good play with crappy play by all including yourself. Read the sentence again. Too complex? Let me clarify. Everyone should maximize their DPS in proportion to their own skill to survive. If you go down in a pug that is your own fault and whether you were top dps or not I could care less. Their are classes that out DPS guardian so the only thing you should worry about is maximizing your DPS while not going down. If you go down you failed at that end of story. Not really all that complex. If they all ran zerker and died the funny thing is it would be fail. If you all ran pure ranged tank it would be slow. If you all maximized your DPS while keeping traits you need to survive there would not have been an issue. Not really complex but you have a lot of say about things that do not even matter.
Bring the traits, stats and skills you need to survive while pumping out as much dps as you can.
Tell me how this is wrong?
One last thing. Complaining about what you get in pug? It is at the end of the day a pug.
Wrekkes-Engineer Kore Rok Thief-Asraithe-Ele
Bring the traits, stats and skills you need to survive while pumping out as much dps as you can. Rezzing is much more of a pain in the kitten then a slightly longer fight.
The dead zerker will be doing no DPS the other players will be forced to carry you.
Case in point, I did Arah story recently, we got to the mouth of zhaitan after killing the three AA turrets (btw haven’t done this fight in months so couldn’t remember a thing) and I spammed a basic DPS rotation and evaded all of the obvious attacks. Nobody res’d me and I died, but I’m pretty sure I had almost solo’d the boss’s HP down to 25% because the last 25% of HP went down excruciatingly slow.
Fixed it for you. BTW read the highlighted part of my first post. It is one sentence. In fact I will whittle down your quote to it and next sentence. Once again if you can’t handle surviving full zerker…….don’t use it. Instead of a rebuttal you wrote the case in point. You pugged that run too didn’t you? So read the rest of my points because you literally gave an example of what happens in pugs. I rather have an alive DPS doing 5-10% less dps on the class that isn’t even top DPS than a dead players not doing kitten.
Wrekkes-Engineer Kore Rok Thief-Asraithe-Ele
Its about ego really, and the need to sway away from the masses.
Also comes from a feeling of inferiority towards warriors and whatnot, as well as to prove that we guardians can survive based on dodges alone, just like everyone else.
Could also be that a ton of people ran AH for long time so now people want a change of pace.
Lastly, some loser started calling AH builds the “noob friendly” or “noob” for short builds, so it all skyrocketed from there.
Keep in mind that since there are no DPS meters in this game, people look at that 10k GS#2 and think, holy kitten deeeeps. Little do they understand about combat uptime and the like but hey, I don’t wanna start arguing with said loser again.
Not entirely sure if I should defend Desolation or not, as this discussion is rather pointless. However, I’ll still give it a shot. I’ll be straight down the line here, you decide what you make of it in the end.
As I took the lead and struggled to revive the server and rally the guilds, you could say I know what happend and how it happend. What happend to Desolation? Did we tank the Silver League? Far from it. A couple of weeks before the League kicked off, we lost major forces again for the third time.
<snip>
From this moment onwards, we had to be realistic. We knew what Vizunah was all about. Most of those Guilds who remained were active during that era and pretty much did not want to get stomped once again. Therefore we decided to get into Silver League. Did we had to do an effort to drop down? Not at all. Our poor numbers took care of that and eventually we dropped and ended in Silver.
(emphasis mine)
You are kinda jumping into your own mouth here mate. You didn’t tank but you lost just enough rating to get into silver.
Also, it wasn’t a PvE crowd that introduced 5am 10 omega golem rushes to the silver league.
We faced you twice during your tanking phase and the difference was staggering – much less skilled opposition during prime-time then in pre-league matches and heavy nightcapping. Congratulations on becoming what you hated – Vizunah Square.

Simple, elegant, outright makes sense and would go a long way in solving some of the glaring issues in WvW.
In other words, not going to happen. Would you like Mercenary Camp Capping Mastery instead? Maybe some new Living Story nodes around Eternal Battlegrounds?
If you are a small group that work on killing a huge blob, mass ressing a defeated player is one of your main enemy. The feeling when you killed 10 players by your initial push to reduce your enemy blob from 80 to 70 just to see they are being ressed back by their blob. As the battle prolonged, the small group will eventually lose due to no sustain/utility on CD.
This mechanism also defeat the purpose of defending a keep when you are overwhelmed. What is the point of defending a keep with sieges when your enemy blob are able to mass ress every defeated players thus making their numbers to never go down=no breathing space for the defender.
How to fix this? Simply making a player unable to ress a defeated player if he is in combat. In order to ress a defeated player you need to be out of combat. I hate how this game has been dumb downed to go blob or go home. Please make this happen Anet.
p/s: Defeated state != Downed state.
Edit: Please read all the replies before you post as it does contribute to this matter

I really believe week 7 will have too much of a negative impact on the losing servers. Not because they lost, but because they were completely facerolled.
Only took you three-and-a-half months to put a simple iCD on this rune which made WvW small scale at times totally unenjoyable. Looking forward to the Dec 10th patch where some stuff might be a bit ridiculous in WvW but totally fine in sPvP and people write 400+ comments of “Hey, maybe you could take a look at it. It seems fairly strong!” in the wuv forums but yet get to see no fix.
No problem in PvE, balanced in sPvP so why bother?
The 6/6 bonus on Runes of Perplexity now have a 8 second cooldown. This was excluded from the patch notes, but we’re in the process of getting them added.
Thought you guys would like to know.
8seconds is entirely to short.
Other abilities that apply 5x confusion, actual player skills, last only 5sec baseline with a 15sec cooldown.
This will still put these runes in a position of 10sec duration on 8sec cooldown. And that is ignoring condition duration entirely. Thanks to the +confusion duration it’ll be 13sec.
Stack a bit of condition duration from traits, toxic <sharpening/focus/maintenance oil> and a foodbuff and you can easily get 20sec duration confusion. On an 8sec cooldown.
This leaves Runes of Perplexity still as the vastly superior means to apply confusion. Outclassing playerskills by a significant margin.
A mesmer build for confusion but without perplexity runes will be considerably worst at stacking and maintaining confusion then a thief that picked up nothing but perplexity runes and an offhand pistol. He could otherwise be completely untraited and have no weapon in his mainhand.
