They don’t seem to support a rock-paper-scissors solution.

They took the condi sandwich and squished it together, so the bottom and the top are both closer to the middle now.

In doing so they increased the base damage of many attacks that otherwise had counters. For example confusion and torment, they both do more damage regardless of whether you use no skill or stand still….but their max damage from ur moving/skilluse is lesser. They also tossed in more conditions on less skills rather than adjusting damage/utility/defense values.

Its just weird…I don’t support this kinda of balancing. We’ll get to the point where everyone does dozens of conditions/boons and the only way to deal is to use one of the new elites that clears/converts dozens of conditions/boons.

I mean, sure its an evolved form of combat that adds to the mode…..but it makes the old content obsolete in the process. We say its cause they want to sell more copies of the game, regardless of if its true, because that’s the only way we can justify the changes as being intelligent.

I really hate this feature honestly. I love going for small group roaming / solo and already it’s frustrating dealing with people kitten out by teleporting to waypoint as soon as they get out of combat , now gliding make it even worse in certain situation. Honestly I would have give it for granted the fact that you shouldn’t be able to trigger glider while in combat , as every pvp oriented player would have tho …
I am personally against the whole gliding thing in WvW , it completly ruind the concept of a well built landscape and the purpose of putting objective over a cliff and its pro and cons, i would see mounts being more appropriate honestly, but everything that is going to ease moving faster and easier makes the map feel smaller than it already is.
Hope they will figure it out.

Guard is dead? Really? Because why? Because they cut the range on your AA so that you actually have to put some work into tagging enemies? This right here is the lazy, lowest common denominator gameplay that ArenaNet keeps catering too which turns what could be fun, competitive, and engaging fluid action combat into skill spam, mindless AoE bomb madness.

It was called a “loot stick” for a reason. That right there tells you something. I am sorry if I sound a tad salty but I just can’t believe what I read anymore.

I think you might have more fun with games if you play a mode because you enjoy the gameplay, not because you are depositing hours into some kind of reward 401(k) plan. It’s supposed to be fun, not a prize contract.

Who, what

Roaming is roughly defined as small scale capture and combat. Typically consisting of 1 – 2 players, though definitions vary.

Players who adventure by themselves or with a friend(s) are prepared for and often seeking fights. Their builds will be meta or custom to suit their needs, usually with mobility taking top priority.

These players will capture small objectives such as sentry and supply camps, kill dolyaks and contest objectives if necessary. Depending on the motivation of the player(s), they may also attempt larger objectives.

Why

  • Some players are more independent than others and prefer to have greater control over their goals.
  • Boredom, practice, recording combat videos or to support their main zerg by counter capturing and contesting to split up the enemy.
  • For most – just because they can.

How

An effective roamer is a vigilant one. Strong map awareness and in a constant state of seek and destroy. To survive for extended periods of time, they must be skilled combatants by themselves or supported by players they are familiar with. Their limitations are clear and they are familiar with when to retreat and when to commit.

Build, communication, knowledge and practice keep them afloat while the desire for the surprises that every encounter holds spurs them on.


Roaming is as much a part of WvW as zerging but it was not/is not the purpose of the game.

There are many players who are passionate about small scale combat, most who are driven by the hopes that Anet will bring a near perfect balance to their passion. There is no God. Your balance won't happen.

While skill is a great deal of what keeps a good roamer alive, build and the build(s) they face have a near equal say in the outcome. A good player can achieve victory over almost anything, but due to the rock, paper, scissor design of combat, even the best can fall to mechanics. This can be remedied with co-op, however the drawbacks of doing so are significant; One players decisions are not as impactful, effort needed to defeat a single player is greatly reduced, more players will avoid you, and the more players you are with, the more chances of having your positions scouted and becoming overwhelmed.

Many players have become frustrated with roaming thanks to powercreep and design changes in objectives over the years. While there is still a breathing community of players that enjoy the small scale side of things, a lot of these players feel betrayed or forgotten due to the aforementioned.

I’m sure everyone already knows all of this, but I just wanted to bounce it back to you.

That’s why it’s important to remember that having fun should be the #1 priority, not being the best there ever was. Don’t worry about what builds are broken, whether Anet is listening to you or if you’re making a difference. Adapt to the meta and use what you can to your advantage – no one ever said fights had to be fair. If you’re expecting balance, if you’re expecting your elite knowledge of all the nuances of every mechanic, you’re wrong, everyone loses sometimes.

So please, continue to play what you like, how you like, and get out there. I can’t wait to see all the new faces once Path Of Fire drops but most of all, I can’t wait to see those who are passionate still enjoying themselves.

No. But u guys kittened up wvw then and this will be the same. Stop putting pve crap into wvw. We the hardcore wvw players dont play pve. So please stop messing up our content. I know for a fact that lost of players will be leaving the game because of these things. They only game back when its back to normaal.

Okay so let me get this straight… Out of anything you could have been working on for WvW, new map, separate balancing for our game mode, more rewards, balancing changes for WvW. You go and do the thing most veteran players DO NOT WANT and apply gliding. Do you’re players even bother going to WvW or join TS or Discord? I don’t think you guys do and it shows. You haven’t clearly been listening to us and I am greatly appalled by this change.

Hopefully they disabled the bloodstone fen gliding skills lol.

Still means smc will be brutal to defend… Need to watch out for third-floor smc drop veil bombs now as well.

Still very stupid, however. Corner someone into top floor garri while you siege it and they can just jump off a cliff to ooc glide and re-enter through various gaps. So much mesmer abuse in keeps… The list keeps on going.

The combat and balance alone is already laughably bad. The matchmaking process is poor. Now we have broken fight and territory mechanics to boot.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU ARE IN COMBAT? Disable in combat gliding. Otherwise it means anyone can run away from a fight by just gliding away and literally makes HoT Pay-to-win. Seriously. It NEEDS to be disabled to deploy gliding while in combat. Seriously. This is why gliding in WvW has always been the stupidest idea.

I don’t think you have the strongest grasp of how gliding works. If they try and run away by gliding off a cliff, just toss out a little cc and watch them fall to death, lmfao.

For that you require to have ranged CC. So now you have to make sure you have ranged CC on you at all times which means you have to change your build AROUND gliding? That’s kitten.

BEARBOWS REJOICE, OUR TIME HAS COME! It is our time to shine for we have waited for this moment forever, lurking at the back of the zerg.. Never wanted, always rejected. Finally we will be accepted into squads and people beg us to use our glorious longbow #4! PEW PEW PEW!

Thx to anet for 99 % of roamers in wvw playing thief, because this class is completely OP in mobliliy, perma dodging, DMG output.
Thx for nerfing stability on necromancer, for the 1000th time, so that the necromancer is now the same trash class like the 4 years before hot.
Thx for giving warriors a dmg boost again, because this class just made 10k per f skill cast every 4 sec.
Thx for buffing every patch the same 3 classes while engis, eles, necros, revs etc. are still trash.

Thx for condi meta, thx for blob meta, thx for lags since 5 years on ebg, thx for dont giving an ascended gear vender for wvw since 5 years, thx for creating in 100 hours a legendary armor for pve while wvw ask for a serious skill balance and never will get. hmm… did i forget something?

And by design thief is supposed to have highest mobility….. just saying the Devs intended Thief to only be a Roaming style class . And all classes received Nerfs hell Revs only received buffs last patch smh.

High mobility does not have to mean being able to essentially perma dodge with high vigor uptime, and being able to ignore soft cc’s, while being able to shadowstep away and be halfway across the map in seconds, and being able to perma stealth with high burst damage from both power and conditions. Thief in wvw is extremely broken.

Shouldn’t there be more of a trade off?

There has never been anything worse then a nomad thief, people will stay in enemy keeps indefinitely with this build and not even 50 people can kill him. Its honestly as if thief is allowed to choose an admin build and just float around the map as an invincible kitten perma taping waypoints. When I was tied with NSP being on FC at the time, I once saw a thief do this in blue eb keep for more then 24 hours. There was nothing anyone could do. I seriously loathe the thief class and this build is by far the worst. Honestly though I hate every thief, it’s the worst implemented class I have ever seen in an mmo game. It’s always been anti fun even since the beginning. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXcRknfEzfY&t=315s) This old video for example, thief gets to reset 30 + times after getting out played at each engagement but still being able to stealth and try again as much as he likes with no consequence. As far as I care, this thief LOST 29 1v1s in a row and his class is kittening cheating.

Attack while players do not notice you, immediately stealth and disengage if the victim player fights back. This core design of the class both mitigates the amount of time that players are actually interacting with each other (diminishing the pvp experience) but also makes what should be a squishy assassin class, capable of what essentially is the highest amount of invul uptime in the game (dodge spam) or indefinite stealth.

I hate this class more then any collection of english words could express in all honestly, imo anyone who plays thief isn’t playing video games to have fun, they are playing to be troll and see a “you win” screen.

total exception to the thief players who /bow at 1vs1 spots, you guys are my homies and don’t play like total kittenes.

NA had the issue with server stacking; prior to linking, EU did not have the issue — or at least not to the extreme that was seen in NA.

The linking has brought the NA bandwagon movement to EU. We really hadn’t seen it in EU prior to linking; again not to the extreme that was happening in NA. SFR was the only server, allegedly, that actively paid for guilds to transfer to its server. It’s why it remained dominant for a long time.

EU players: solo, roamers, guilded, but particularly guilded had discussions amongst each other to ensure that three max big guilds were on each server to ensure a good ratio of fights. These guilds self-organized and helped balance out the rest of the pug masses. And I’m pretty sure none of these guilds cared whether they were in 1st, 2nd or 10th spot: they just wanted to make sure they had the bodies to fight to challenge them and their friends during their leisure time.

What did motivate them were queue times: If they got too long on any given server, they’d move down in tiers.

It wound up creating a pleasant playing field where pugs could improve skillset by tagging along with high level guilds — and pugs would leave the guilds alone if they were working on group raids/compositions etc… Scouts could call out blob reports and the guilds would actually (good naturedly) fight with each other in map chat over who got to take on the blob first. I even witnessed one guild wait at the side to let another guild have the first shot.

EU servers period would complain about what is common in NA — zerging. And accuse other guilds of hand holding if they didn’t wait turns.

It’s just a completely different mentality. In EU it’s about the gameplay, in NA it was about the reward/first place, etc… Weekends on most EU servers were empty because folks were out doing things with family and friends. Weekdays became the game days.

EU did not need linking to balance out the population. The majority played during prime and there were small groups of devoted “daytime/nighttime” regulars.

The server balance issues were NA only. Linking was created for NA.

Your blanket statements aren’t a far cry from racism in terms of ignorance. But then I guess I should expect that from an EU player. See how unfair that is?

Blow up, link, whatever you’d please — only do it in NA. The whole new system was implemented because players refused to spread out in NA, and it completely borked EU which was fine prior.

Do all the new shinies for NA. They want it.

1. it is thieves, not thiefs
2. Because thieves are roamers per design. Also, most zergs kick thieves instantly nowadays so all they can do now is roaming. Thank the community.
3. i assume with non-telegraphed burst you mean backstab? (because every other “burst” is telegraphed). Please check requirements on backstab and the damage it does when all stars don’t align before complaining about it. Main dmg for thief comes ironically from AA nowadays, just saying.
4. Access to stealth is not that “easy”, you use use ini for it (which results in less weapon spells you can execute at time) or/and use of CDs, most are pretty long on top of it.
5. thieves are not immune CCs, actually thieves have lowest access to stab of all classes in game. The normal builds run maybe 1-2 stunbreaks but about every other class does in wvw/pvp environment.
6. If thief did take bandit’s defense it means they either don’t have shs or blinding powder -> trade for condi cleanse and stealth. Weren’t you just complaining that they have easy access to stealth lol? Also god forbid the class that doesn’t have access to stab actually has access to stun break!

Please, go play one. Also record it so we can see how “OP” thieves are. I am sure skilled player like you can dominate entire community on such “OP” class

2) Its called spamm stuff 5th skill , that offers evades even in zergs and can be used as initiators . You should try it .
3) You are doing something wrong , because even thifs in 2012 hotjoins could pull off the even harder version os CnD+Steal , rather than the easier version od d/p to access stealth and use the Backstab
4) its called d/p , where they dont have high cd on stealth demand ,and your resourse mechanics REGEN AS YOU ARE DOING OTHER THINGS … its not like you have 16 resourses and you cant do anything else afterwards
5) why the 5th and 6th contridict themself ? they have too few stun break or too many ?
You have the traited Daze steal + Shadowstep + Bandit’s Defense which is the nromal to all clases
6) If you dont know , …. you have the Shadowstem + Escapist’s Absolution for the condtion removal , while using the d/p for the steal . Dont hurp kitten in the keyboarbs if you dont know aht you are saying …

Assuming a thief runs d/p DA/TR/DD you have easy stealth on demand. As Cynz above said, most of the damage comes from dagger autos these days, so the initiative spend on heartseeking 3-4 times through a black powder don’t hurt the thief that bad.

I agree with TS, thieves in wvw right now are the definition of a class that is overtuned. In fact with HOT and the Daredevil the class (again, assuming d/p UC stealth&dodgespam headshot sigil of draining hurrdurr thief) became real easy to play and one of the most forgiving builds in the game, you can literally get away with anything, If you want a challenge as a thief go d/d solo, hell even go zerker shatter mes.

I am Derpocalypse. WvW is all I care about. Currently on Piken Square EU.

Hey, i was wondering how it can be that 3 of 4 players roaming are thieves. It may be a crazy thesis but maybe they are broken as kitten. Can somebody explain to me why the class with hilarious mobillity, a ton of dodges, a non telegraphed burst and easy access to stealth needs to be basically immune to CC? Nice work on the CD of Bandit’s Defense there balanceteam. Good luck with your next addon and have a nice day.

All these pve tears are hilarious.

Throw in some rewards with pips and participation and suddenly whole wvw revolves around those 2! Now i feel stupid playing this game mode for years for the messy battles….

It’s kind of like living in Winnipeg. If the black flies don’t eat you alive, or the mosquitos, you have to deal with the 40C weather. Likewise in winter if you manage to turn your car over in -40C weather it’s a victory. Winnipeg natives are fiercely proud of their city, mostly for the commonalities of hardships they endure to live there, lol.

I’d rather go back to zero rewards. Was historically afraid of what rewards would do to WvW. But here we are. And I can see how some carrots can at least open eyes to possibilities. But not if over the longterm the reward is why you keep playing.

Friday reset after the dos attack, wvw was unplayable for me on mag if I got near jq, not even in max range weapon range, I couldn’t even swap weapons. I haven’t bothered to log back into the game since then. The last 4/5 times I tried to play it it was broken.

Even on a normal Friday night after 2 hours a play, can no longer waypoint – it takes 4-5 minutes or my character is invisible now. People have been shrugging this off as the waypoint bug or the memory leak for at least a year. Please start bug reporting this so it gets on the docket to be fixed.

I am sick of being treated like a 3rd class citizen in GW2. wvwers buy just as many precursors and gem store skins as anyone else. We should be able to waypoint and swap weapons. Not really asking a lot here.
