I remember when mesmer meta was phantasm/reflect build… Never shatter, just summon 3 phantasms and pray to RNGesus that they stay alive and deal damage. Reflect cheese all day exploding bosses and ignoring mechanics…
Base Mesmer doesn’t require Travelers. Out of combat just temporal curtain, swap back weapon, and spam your stealths or swap in soi for a long haul. Its no lazy 25% passive but Perma swiftness is obtainable.
Yeah I’ve tried it, and it’s not for me. I’m not going to waste a slot on SoI, and there were too many times when I was caught in combat with /focus. Which do I want to be caught fighting a Thief without, my main source of stealth (torch) or my main source of damage & interrupt (pistol)?
It’s not required, but I don’t need the headache.
That headache is all about min/maxing your character, Changing weapons and traits effectively out of combat is the sign of a good player. You swap back to torch as soon as you cast Curtain so you are never stuck w/o torch. Rune 6 sets are to good give up for run speed. SoI isn’t really necessary as long as you spam stealths I would use it only for long runs.
What’s functionally bad about conditions, if you don’t mind me asking?
You still press a button to do X damage, only the X is done over 3/4/5/Y seconds instead of instantly, and in turn ignores Toughness. But gameplay-wise, it’s all the same, hammer damage dealing abilities to inflict maximum pew pew.
As such, the defense against them is actually much the same: Evade/Block/Dodge. If you avoid the attack, you avoid the conditions just the same you’d avoid the instant damage.
Should you fail to avoid them, instead of using passive Toughness to mitigate the damage, you now cleanse. It’s a more binary thing, you either remove 100% or 0% of the damage instead of X% according to Toughness. Granted. But functionally it’s comparable, taking up skillbar slots instead of item stat slots.
Also, please don’t call effective “cheesy”. If you want to run an inferior build despite knowing better that’s fine, but then the correct term is “You’re gimping yourself purposely” (which might be fine, again!), not “They are all running cheesy WTFANetsuxx”.
If you however just want to say that you think the game is a) too spammy and b) too bursty, then full ack and we already know the balance team (Assuming there is one, I doubt it) is absolutely understaffed or only works 2 weeks in the entire year. We’d need patches like the one we just got every single month. Because there’s a ton of work to do!
And in fact they need to be bigger in scope, ripping out entire skills, traitlines, skill types, item types, everything. Replacing them. Maybe even just flat out removing them.

I guess there are no plans to reduce the powercreep and make player vs player fights more dependant on actual player actions instead of relying more and more on traits and skills, right? Because since HoT it often feels like i’m fighting mechanics more than players, and if i don’t choose certain traits and skills to counter those mechanics, it barely matters how well i play. Buffs surely won’t make those fights more fun again
Small off-topic suggestion: I think Anet should join random LFG raids with DPS meters on to see the real damage of the average population on certain professions to address better the way the meta uses them. And then manage to create a perfect balance where choosing one profession or another is actually relevant to the group and not everyone would go for the “best” one.
Unfortunately this would require them to play the game outside of their internal testing bubble

I don’t really understand what the purpose of wells are suppose to be. Are these suppose to be for PvE trains and raids only? In PvP and WvW they are awful.
Except GW they don’t really do much, their diameter is too small, and their is nothing to help stop people just walking out of them.
I would say double their radius, add more CC/boons to them and increase their damage. At the moment they are pointless especially since at most they hit for 1 tick. They are uncompetitive with any of the other useful utilities.
I know they nerfed them due to bunker but what we have now is junk.

1, It clearly isn’t fun. Its all spam. Every class is spam. If you disagree you are lying to urself.
2, There is nothing to play for. The season goes on for years and playing isn’t encouraged from a leaderboard perspective.
3, A ton of games are ruined by ESL mesmer/thief duo queues pushing far and insta moa someone and then snowball the whole game 5v4 from there.
4, There is zero build diversity. It is clear what is best.
5, If you try to run non-meta you often get utterly shrekt because the power creep is so insane that all the meta builds are broken. GL with running a non-meta spec and surviving thieves and mesmers
6, There are no amulets. So it was broken with tanky amulets because engis and mesmers and rangers never died right? Well how about nerf the broken sustain traits. It kills build diversity so much to remove all the amulets. I really don’t understand the lack of a sentinal or cleric amulet and instead we get 100 variations of the same amulets. Breaking the game because of these dumb traits is not a reason to remove amulets. It is a reason to nerf these traits or just to accept this game is a failure pvp wise.
7, There is no communication help. No pings to say you need help. Nothing. Just a complete failure.
8, No new maps. So the game has been out 4 years and skyhammer is the only new map in ranked in 4 years. Awesome. I hope on the reviews of their 4 years of work the anet management see how much of a factual failure this is
9, Perma evasion – its not very fun trying to hit people perma evading/invuln. Maybe try and design combat in a way that is fun for both parties.
10, Tiny community – you play the same people over and over. It is boring. You sit in a queue for 4 minutes and then it pops vs exactly the same people you just played with. So that 4 minutes was just a total troll.

The question is: Should we continue to have three redundant, unusable trait lines simply because all the viable build options retain all condition cleansing in the Inspiration line?
If, for example, Mender’s Purity was moved to the Domination, or Dueling lines, then suddenly a ton of build options open up. Power Mesmers could run mantra heal, possibly even with Harmonious Mantras, and not be forced to kitten their damage (inspiration), utility (MoD/portal), or survivability (decoy/blink). At heart this issue is about making viable mesmer builds. Something that we do not have right now. All viable trait synergy is funneled into meta condi chrono. Everything else is suboptimal, and below par on HoT level performance across all classes.
This is not a new problem!
P.S. I thank the enemy mesmers for the free win when I see them running power in Ranked.

The main source of Flax Fibers are the 2 farm locations in PvE maps. Farm locations are in Verdant Brink and Tangled Depth. These are places where players park their alt characters to login, gather and logout every day. How fun and engaging gameplay is that?
The main target of Flax Fibers is the WvW upgrades. All WvW guilds’ scribes are constantly asking for more Flax Fibers to keep the guild’s warchest filled.
I refuse to go to PvE and farm, and the syntheziers in WvW don’t provide Flax Fibers. So I have to buy them from the Trading Post. It is a gold transfer from WvW players to PvE farmers.
I want WvW to be a self-sufficent game mode. Flax Fibers are a main offender.
Suggestion: Let the siegemasters sell the upgrades for Badges of Honor.

Sure. That’d be nice. However, I’d like to play the game sometime this year.
As it is, I haven’t been playing as much because the lack of build diversity has made it uninteresting. I know I’m going to run into the same zerker build on every single roaming warrior in WvW. Every Scrapper in pvp is running the same thing. Same condi chrono. Same DH with traps/symbols, same Druid (you can’t even play base ranger any more it’s so bad).
I much preferred pre-June2015 where non-meta builds could hold their own against the rest. Sure, there were eras where certain builds got out of hand – (turret engi, hambow, cele), but on balance, you weren’t forced to run any particular spec if you wanted to be competitive.

Don’t worry, as an elementalist you have Dragon Tooth, a very powerful skill that almost does 50% as much damage and only takes 3-4 seconds to land.
Full clerics gear and trinkets. Not sure how this guy is hitting like this much.
in addition- Just to note, I am not sure what the logic is to put evades on a skill that lands THIS MUCH DAMAGE. This skill shouldn’t be uninterruptible.
They’ve already got three evades, and that 1 more than everyone else has.

The fact that the game mode isn’t doing well has a little to do with the braindead additions they have made to it, but that’s not really the biggest issue. People keep talking about new maps, new rewards, new this, new that.
None of that matters if the fights are not fun.
The leader of my havoc guild used to make really cool videos from WvW footage, showcasing guilds on our server and so on. She recently came back and wanted to record fights and make new videos. What she found, however, is that the footage was boring as hell because the fights were boring as hell.
There is no balance, no diversity. It’s all particle showers and skill spam. Use whatever is off cooldown and let your passives take care of the rest. There is no push and pull, none of that “he used X so I’ll use Y”. There are no turtle guards who sacrifice damage for survival, instead there’s DH that has both. Or Daredevil. Or Scrapper. Or Berserker. Block block block evade evade evade invuln invuln invuln. 8k, 9k, 12k crits per skill.
WvW is all about the fights. The objectives, the map design, it’s all there to encourage encounters with the enemy. So when the experience of those encounters is nothing but the same condi-passive-block bullcrap over and over and over, is it no wonder that people leave?
The solution lies not with the WvW team, but with the apparently non-existent balance one.
So much this. Even though WvW has always suffered from a flawed population system, the battles used to be awesome enough to make participation in WvW desirable even when you had no chance of winning a matchup because you had less people/coverage. But when Specialisations were introduced and then with the release of HoT, the battles in WvW became a horror to participate in. Too much easily deliverable damage, too many active sustain options, traits with too many effects, skills with too many effects and far too many entirely passive traits with massive effects. I understand that WvW is supposed to be PvP with PvE, but I don’t think they realise how integral the PvP experience in WvW is for player enjoyment.
So what’s the point in participating in WvW now? Matchups are almost entirely decided on population/coverage disparity so there’s not much point trying to win and the battles are a frustrating mess so there’s no point bothering with those. The new upgrade system is completely automated now so there’s nothing for players to do other than…escort dolyaks – so not much point playing for that either. It’s only real draw now is siege weaponry use which is still fun (except arrowcarts – they’re still boring).
Clones dying from cleave and AOE is called counter play. Penalizing people for getting rid of our clones would get rid of this counter play. Listen to the Boss Ross.
And why would an option to trait in a way to counter this counter play, especially on a trickster class, be a bad thing? Sounds like a good option if it leads to more build diversity and more skillful counter-play required by those facing Mesmers, because they can’t just mindlessly AoE illusions like now. I fail to see how more horizontal options in traiting are ever a bad idea.
There are lots of counter-play to counter-play scenarios, this is usually considered a good thing for both build and play diversity. It’s just too simplistic to have a single easily accomplished method of completely shutting down a fundamental profession mechanic such as our Shatters is. Giving an option to keep our opponents on their toes when they mindlessly spam AE is IMO an enrichment to skillful PvP play.
Making Illusions or especially Phantasms more survivable is another route, but these are mutually exclusive and completely different play-styles. We already have traits and a Signet to accomplish that, but clearly even if you specialize in all of the current options, not even our Phantasms turn out to be really any more survivable than without these options. So yes, those options should also be significant improved to have a much more noticeable impact, in order to provide another option.
That does not exclude making other useful traits to discourage the killing of especially Phantasms. Those two trait options would in fact be mutually exclusive by their very nature.
The problem is that there is no skill involved. It’s all just mindless spam. Enemies mindlessly spam their aoe/cleave. Clones die at random, spewing random condi’s in their own AoE fields. You then mindlessly spawn more clones without an iota of skill to repeat the process ad-nausea. Then the other guy mindlessly spams condi cleanses, starts his mindless invuln/evade/block chain, and mindlessly spams some more pressure skills etc etc etc.
The game is oodles and oodles of mindlessness at this point. Adding more spamming mindless options is just adding more mindless spam to an already mindlessly spamming spam fest XD

Only time we have trouble getting people to defend our home bl is when we are red because it’s a kitten map. Never have that problem with the alpine map.

there is a problem with the ghost thief that most players here tend to ignore:
- the traps will pit on you 5 different conditions at the same time which means you not only needs reliable condi cleanse but be able to blow you condi bomb cleanse or a cleanse specifically for inmob. Otherwise you’ll be stuck in the traps while the thief put more condis on you ramping up the damage up to 10k \tick in a couple of seconds.
- Not all classes have reveal. Only reliable reveal are the DH traps and maybe thennew warrior shout. and thats it
Every class in game must have access to some sort of long reveal so the thief has to use the other tools they have at their disposal like evades or teleports

Have we ever been asked to vote on keeping Desert Borderlands?
If I recall correctly the poll asked whether DBL should be used in rotation with Alpine, or 2 DBL and 1 Alpine, or 2 Alpine and 1 DBL.
The 2 Alpine and 1 DBL option was the most voted for combination.I do not remember an option to refuse Desert Borderlands, so it would be inaccurate to say that players voted to keep it. Or has there been a different poll that I missed?
I dont remember being asked if i wanted them to develop HOT and make my guardian a dh and so on i would much rather have the game as it was before. also i dont recall being asked between any other wvw change or wvw class balance wich is way more impprtant for most people. so just accept that they do what they want and dont give a F… about the reall issues.

Good Example of failure. A___T you ask people do they want desert BL and over 50% people voted for it. Where are those 60-70% people now?
Answer is they never existed to begin with, becasue while the overall all majority of people that really cared voted no. People that don’t even care get to choose.
As of a result of you trying to be inclusive to people that don’t need to be included becasue they don’t even play the game mode you ruin the game.
Same with Cannons repair hammers all of the other stuff.
Take advice from me now. If it sounds like game breaking or not fun like desert bl and cannons. Chances are the people who are going to have to live with those consequences don’t want it.
So stop asking people for their opinion that have no opinion to give.

The real interesting part is what will happen when they release the next elite and it doesn’t have 25% movement speed increase.
So we need to fix a ton of stuff to keep these tonics… what a waste of dev time for this junk.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
I’m not sure what is more surprising, that a server can gain 4 billion PPT or that a dev responded to a thread in WvW section.
