This may be a nice change of topic from the normal WvW bashing routine but anyone else want the Quaggons to stay, I do not care if they move them to Eternal Battlegrounds I just want the Fish people to stay.

They basically are getting Evicted from their lake in the center of the Borderlands, Well I wish them luck in Lion’s arch.

They are being replaced by Control points that give the Orb Buff, Well good for us wer got orb back. Bad for the Wildlife but WHO CARES, ORB TIME!!!!!!!

Sorry your server decided to stack and screw up the queue for you.

But making it so MORE people can come on the server just screws over those that already can barely fill one of the WvW maps.

I will support a way to see your place in line. But its never gonna happen. Been asking for that since beta.

As it stands, the outnumbered buff may as well be called, the ‘You have zero chance of winning, so please leave the server now’, buff.
It gives 20% magic find—33% experience—10% world experience—and no armor damage on death.

All very well and good, but you have to have a chance of actually winning something to make use of the buff in the first place, and as the buff only comes into effect roughly when the enemy is outnumbering you three to one, the buff is practically redundant, as you will be dead pretty quick in any pitched battle (roamers aside).

Personally, I would much rather have an Outnumbered buff that would actually even the score in fight, or would actually be useful—what you guys and gals say?

3900 ARMOR, what is the point.

So, I have 3900 armor, I have sacrificed a lot of damage to get this, but what the hell is the point, I was under the illusion that armor meant mitigation of damage?! like hell it is, it makes little to no difference; you are still hit for 7k+ conditions still kitten you no matter how many times you remove them since they can be put on faster than can be removed, then you have the confusion spamming kitten that will outright kill you almost instantly if you miss the fact that it was stacked to 16+ in 1 second.

Why bother with Armor/toughness, it seems the only viable defence is stealth, immune utilities and high damage.

Survivability in dungeons with a DPS build?

Your entire assumption that the group does not care that you are bad, just because it is a pug, is extremely flawed logic.

Not sure that’s what I said (or meant if that’s how it reads). Still, my view on PUGs is a more pragmatic approach than an academic one.

1. PUGs are random people with no experience playing with each other or perhaps even the content. This results in more variation in performance than an engineered team who plays together.

2. There isn’t one single definition of what everyone considers as the transition point from a good to a bad player either. I don’t even think such a thing exists … if it does, ‘wearing zerker gear’ wouldn’t be enough to define it.

That’s for me where DPS-only PVE argument breaks down. There is no concensus on the border between bad and good (there isn’t one, it’s simply a spectrum) and there is a difference in philosophies to playing; no single one dominates because a group of players place specific significance on certain results it gets you.

No one is trying to tell you how to play, but it wouldn’t hurt to show some common courtesy and make your presence be a positive addition to the group that you volunteered to join. You don’t have to run the best build..there is plenty of room for compromise…just be reasonably effective.

People are reasonably effective NOT running DPS builds in many situations; some are MORE effective if they aren’t running DPS builds. Therefore, they are doing everything you are asking them to do here.

I wasn’t aware that guardians had party wide vigor. Glad you had a good time, tho, OP.

There’s a pretty easy trait you can pick up that spreads might to allies when you crit. You can keep up a fairly decent stack of might with that. Pretty much whenever I glance at allies in a pug to check their boons, they’re hovering around 10ish without me having used things like Justice.

1s internal cooldown on EM. That means without boon duration you are providing a maximum of 5 stacks from that trait.

Also, might isn’t vigor…

… Might isn’t vigor indeed. I just… you know. I wasn’t…

… I wasn’t reading very well.

Also: I didn’t know that about EM, I was just offering anecdotal evidence regarding my experiences pugging while using it.

The only merits of non dps builds are to either hold the hands of sub par players or to compensate for self sub par play.

Yes, and there are alot of players don’t play at that level needed for the DPS builds. Those players still need to exercise some level of competence when teaming. Ergo, non-dps builds have merit for them. It’s not a hard concept.

If the idea that non-optimized DPS players doing non-competitive content is so offensive to DPS people, then DPS people have the option to organize their own teams with each other. Forcing this “DPS-only for PVE” philosophy on players isn’t going to have much of an impact when it goes against the VALUE those players place on the ability to choose how they want to play, even if you think it’s bad.

For example, do you think the guy that wants a PVE/WvW build cares if a single build won’t be optimized for either? You simply don’t understand or respect how other people want to play the game. You guys might have a point if you paid the initial cost of the game and compensated people for their time to play. Only then can you tell them what and how to do it. Until then, you have no authority to dictate that people SHOULD be doing something in game, especially for those of you appealing to the sense of shame by insults and downplay of people’s capability.

The hardest part about teaching is communication. You can vomit wisdom at someone all day, but if they don’t open their mouth, you’ll never know if anything sticks. Back at my old job, the hardest students to teach weren’t the ones who would dwell on one topic for two hours because they didn’t get it, but the ones who would give a blank stare and respond with a flat “Okaaaaaaay…” to every attempt at feedback. Those were the guys who’d flunk a test, and finally own up that they didn’t understand a thing after coming back. That is where the real failure is at.

#1: The point is start a dialogue. You have to ask them if they have any questions, and if things go wrong, you have to ask them why they deviated or what they were trying to do. If you know what is going on there, then it is much easier to remedy the situation instead of just chewing them out. You have to encourage them, otherwise they’ll just stare blankly, being too timid to say anything.

#2: You gotta be patient. Even with instruction the first run never goes well. The game is about practice, and every “teaching run” is with players who have zero practice against what they are fighting. They ain’t painting a Picasso at their first pass of the brush, no matter how much you talk about cubism.

#3: The language barrier is a pain in the rear that rears its ugly head once in awhile. Often times they aren’t stupid insomuch as you sound like total gibberish to them.

#4: You gotta say everything. As much as people whine about walls of text AKA anything longer than 50 characters, if you don’t tell them what to do, why, and what happens in failure, they’ll silently disagree with you on something, not say a word about it, then not cooperate in runs due to this disagreement. Communication in itself is a skill, and unfortunately no one teaches that skill, so you gotta ramble on at the pulpit before people get the word.

#5: Trolls exist. Sometimes people want to be stupid. These are the guys you should punish, but unfortunately it takes forever to weed them out. Often times, what we think is a troll is actually just really stupid; key difference is that trolls are malevolent, while idiots are merely unfortunate.

Also, paragraphs. Paragraphs really help on the forums. But yeah, to resolve to teach is to choose to deal with society akittens most incompetent.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

This is more of a rant thread.

So I decided to teach people how to run CoE today because I had nothing better to do… Now I have no problem dying and I am generally a pretty level headed person. I get 4 people (an ele, ranger, and two thieves, I decided against my better judgement to choose a thief as well) who are brand new to the dungeon and it starts out good everyone stacking the appropriate places and listening to well laid out instructions. We choose P1 and I tell them to stand under alpha to avoid rock AoE we do that and it is sweet. We then get to the golem with the 5 turrets and it is good. Now we come up to the console and I explain the 1 – 4 method show there where to stand and tell them I will protect while they stand up there and someone counts down. The elementalist then takes it upon himself to start hacking the console as soon as we get back in the room. I ask him to wait but he is super pro. We run out and kill the golems again we set up and this time the ranger doesn’t hack so I try a work around where 3 hold agro outside while the other 2 hack/defend. The elementalist runs straight into the room runs around the console a few times and upon death he gets upset because he was holding the agro. I elaborated that hodling the agro in the room will only cause the golems to attack the hack/defend people. Upon respawn he does exactly that again. I eventually tell them to kill all the golems. Now the elementalist runs in and tries to hack it. Now we are at alpha I say stack to make this easier we get him down halfway before we all wipe. The elementalist then decides on respawn to just rush into the room and try to solo Alpha in his defense he lasts a good while before turning into a crystal and death. We all rush in again and the ranger and the ele decide to just run all around the map we wipe a few people decide to repair armor the ele rushes in again by his self this happens at least 5 more times before they finally stack and we beat it. Now is Bjarl I tell them to stay near the pillars but the ele and ranger stand in the middle fighting him getting upset that they are only doing 13 damage. They eventually figure out how it is done and we pass him and at this point I am just exhausted between a personal issue and the lack of listening I don’t even tell them about alpha I just stand in the stack spot pull him over and attack completely my fault but whatever we wipe. The first person in the room to fight alpha again is the ele. Oh does he fight valiantly just to get crystalized and die. This happened a few more times before I just got up and walked away. The best part of it is that in order to finish the dungeon out at least 3 hours after we started they decided to stack…

Now I understand why no one likes teaching dungeons…

Well, that is a first.

Gotta love human nature. The same players that will follow a commander tag and mindlessly zerg for hours upon hours like lemmings (and think that is an example of good gameplay), shout “Don’t tread on me” in a dungeon run. Maybe the solution is to turn your commander tag on?

This is one of the most single players MMO out there.

It’s just a bunch of zerk players (everyone one is a copycat of the other) doing things the fastest they can (like if they actually have something important to do in life) then leaving the zone.

Since there is no concept of team play, communications are not needed. Thus, people don’t eve say “thanks” when you rez them… you barely read a shortened “ty” every now and then.

If you want to play Zerk you play Zerk. If you join a guild that doesn’t do that, then you have different experiences.

I definitely have different experiences than the ones you’ve outlined here.

I’m talking about the occasional talk in the map with random people you encounter. Is it better now? I thought the message was troll proof but I was wrong…

Thanks.

Ps. Its not only the zerk gear, but the zerk mentality also. Players in this game are like a swarm. They just flow in the masses spamming 1 (this is so funny, some of them actually press 1 when there are no mobs just in case they are missing something or waiting for the spawn lol )

Zerk is the average Joe build. Don’t pat yourself in the back too hard.

Not complaining, and not implying that there is anything wrong with NOT talking.

But, beyond a few people calling out events. I hardly see anyone chatter about anything, nobody trying to find someone to group up with or make a pal.

I get that the combat system actually makes you put some effort in, so typing while killing isn’t exactly practical.

What’s up with this? has it always been like this since launch? is it just my world?

I’ve leveled only two characters to 80, yet this is the first MMORPG that has felt like a singleplayer game to me.

Hi, wanted to share a little of my experiences as I find myself in the same shoes as OP. I PUG most of the time too, so I do have some armor pieces to switch just in case.

I did learn alot more about the class after dropping 30 Valor and Toughness/Vit gear. At first I switched my trinkets and weapons to Berserkers then gradually the armor pieces. I’m still not confident taking off 30 points in Honor, so I guess it’s more practice till I’m comfortable with a lower HP pool. I do feel discouraged at times when I get downed alot in the beginning, but it gets better Besides the numbers you see will make it tempting to play

One does have to be more proactive at dodging/positioning/activating skills and paying attention to the animations of bosses. Knowing your encounters helps alot and swapping utilties/weapons beforehand helps too.

I found most of the tips on surviving from the community: (GW2guru is also good if you’re looking for more DPScentric builds)

- 15 in Radiance would give you spammable blind for trash mobs
- using combos like light field from symbols or Wall to cure conditions
- keep protection up with hammer when you need it
- reflect projectiles / absorb with shield bubbles
- moving in fights/staying behind bosses
- Shelter, focus #5, aegis from Retreat / Virtue gives on demand block for the big hits if timed right
- getting your crit chance high for vigor if you have points in Honor
- Sigil of Energy if you need more dodges
- Renewed Focus gives invulnerability
- Virtue tree has good support (Absolute Resolution/Indomitable Courage) and increases your boon duration

Solo roaming as guardian is near impossible. The only two builds I know of that work to some extend are A ) Full glass instant-kill builds or B ) Full heal spec builds where you can only kill them if they let you.

As for zerging, I feel that guardians bring a little more in terms of group utility while also being about to fill a similar dps role, but warrior is becoming a valid option for sure.

Verdict: I have to say warrior. From the way ANET has been pushing that profession, it seems they will be top tier in everything in a matter of months.

For what im used to fight guardian is almost useless due the number of necros, nulifying your consecrations\boons all u can see red circles, and every one know how good a guardian is without boons.
Warrior by the other hand has large health pool can be a really true tank compared to guardian better regen plus more damage.

Side note: no matter how much healthand armor your guardian has there are skils
that critical up over 15k if u have boons.

A little something something would encourage me to help people out.

I am a very helpful person and like to help whenever I can. I also like dungeons. I love grouping. But when these dungeons take an upwards of an hour or two, I am hesitant to volunteer all the time. Especially when I get nothing out of it.

You heard me. I think of myself too. I will help if it’s something small, but when a lot of people ask for help in 1-2 hour dungeons, I would not mind getting a prize at the end. Think of it as me valuing my time.

I know this might be unpleasant matchup for some people at least if the last thread Deso/Gandara/Abbadon’s Mouth is accurate. But cmon guys and girls let’s keep the fights clean. Nobody likes to be corpse jumped or laughed at after losing a battle. It’s childish even tho there are some people from all the servers doing this.

If you encounter a Deso player jumping on you just ignore it or contact that persons guild.

Personally I’d like to keep the fights nice and clean even tho there’s is so much blobbing and some people don’t like it. So, good luck guys and have fun
