for those that think this is a horrible matchup, don’t forget that Anet’s wvw rank system basically will be more in the benefit of the lower tier servers than for us (t1 deso). even if we win with like half of the total amount of the score, we will drop in ranks and you guys will gain.

We dont care about points and rankings.. so this is a horrible matchup for us.
We just want to have good even nice fights and not blobbwars and we dont want to go higher up in ranking becuase then we lose what we enjoy doing..

You don’t have to actually physically strike a target to send in your weapons. Merely swinging with your 1 skill while having an enemy targeted will send them in, even if that swing is from your sword and you’re fifty feet away.

If you finish something faster it doesn’t equate to being better dude… what you enjoy doesn’t mean everyone else has to as well, its the quality of play that matters. I enjoy finishing dungeons without getting downed even once. This isn’t too difficult in tried and true dungeons like CoF and SE, etc, but for dungeons like arah and high level fractals GC toons get punished very hard for mistakes. Sacrificing some DPS to widen the margin of error is worth it in my eyes, and you will probably finish a dungeon faster if you have less downs…

been using a boon duration build for such a long time, close to a month in to launch, and i wanted to share it with everyone because it seems its finally starting to catch on a little more. i’m not much of a writer, so hopefully everyone gets what i’m talking about. this build is one i’ve been running for quite some time and i just cant find any way to outdo it with another build for guardian. guardian has way too many good things that combine with boon duration to not run this build, so here it is.

i have what i would say is a better variation of this build, i’ve been running it for a long time, close to a month in from launch and tweaking it with some friends here and there til i got pretty happy with what it is now.

but basically it’s focused on boon duration and AH (can’t use major runes on that build editor, only major rune of sanctuary give 10% boon duration, the superiors should, but don’t).

what this build is, is not just an AH build, and not just a protection spec build, and not just a permanent swiftness, or a permanent regen build…. it’s EVERYTHING!

using food you can bump your boon duration up to 80% (used to have 90% when i sacrificed some things to get boon trait line up to 30% bonus, but its not worth it in the end, 80% is enough).

the OP’s original skill selection is ok, but the stability isn’t needed as much as having the extra protection and regen stacks is more helpful. the more you throw protection down the better you are gonna be, because it can be kept up permanently.

when playing in groups, this build is awesome, you will have a very very hard time dying in groups thanks to the huge amount of healing from cleric gear, the power that comes from it, and the ability to constantly regen, and reduce all damage by 43% indefinitely in a fight. so using “hold the line” instead of “stand your ground” is a HUGE plus.

now the OP was worried about conditions, but the way my build is set up you remove conditions constantly without having to worry about wasting skill slot space. you have 2 active cond removal tools that are constantly removing conditions from you and you have your virtue of resolve that will remove 3 right off the bat with a fat heal to go with it. i haven’t ever found myself dying to conditions, especially because playing with a mace/torch combo makes this build much stronger. the torch does condition removal, and the mace allows for increased healing with its symbol ability and the trait that allows symbols to heal allies which doubles the healing it does.

Glad to hear people are enjoying the build!

Anyone tested this build in dungeons? How does it compare to an AH build in terms of survivability and support?

I authored the build (or at least this version of it), so I’m probably biased—take what I say with a grain of salt. That being said, I claim that this build is just as survivable as a typical AH-based build. However, the survivability is somewhat different in nature.

AH keeps you topped off in health by virtue of you using shouts, symbols, and other boon-granting tools frequently, handing out a large number of boons to a large number of people in order to net yourself as much health as possible. Thus, if you’re near teammates, you can keep your health topped off very effectively. You can keep a small stream of heals up by using a weapon that can place symbols and grant boons frequently (such as the hammer and/or staff), and you can keep yourself alive by simple virtue of healing whatever damage you take back. You can be CC’d and immobilized easily, but it doesn’t matter too much unless you’re out of ways to grant boons—you’ll just heal whatever damage you take while CC’d back with a couple of shouts, perhaps a few crits with Empowering Might, that sort of thing.

Boonway doesn’t have that healing. What it does have, however, is considerably longer-duration regeneration and protection (16 seconds every 48 compared to 10 seconds every 48), 25% stronger Virtue of Resolve, +300 base healing power (and we have things that scale well with healing power to make use of this extra), and an incredible amount of CC resistance. Used properly, your team should (as an example) never be pulled by Kholer, whether they dodge or not. They should also never have to deal with conditions. All of that condition removal I mentioned in the OP(s) is AoE; two of our shouts convert a condition on allies into a boon, and that’s ignoring the effects of Save Yourselves (sucking all conditions onto yourself, where they can be cleansed by popping VoR and a shout or two). Most things in dungeons and fractals stack a large number of the same condition rather than a broad number of conditions; you can cleanse allies in these cases easily without even pausing your DPS. If necessary, you can pop Renewed Focus and strip off any remaining conditions within 3 seconds, during which you gain invulnerability as a nice side benefit.

So, what’s the difference? Essentially, AH-based builds give you a constant stream of small heals. You’ll take damage when you’re CC’d, and your condition removal isn’t the most reliable in the world, but you can heal all of that back by handing out more boons. Boonway, by contrast, allows you to maintain a more active playstyle, in combination with more consistent passive bonuses. Since you and your allies won’t be affected by CC and conditions nearly as much, you can dodge more attacks, throw out more blinds/blocks, and generally be more mobile in combat. Your focus changes from soaking and healing to avoiding incoming damage where possible, using condition removal and stability where necessary to keep yourself and allies alive, mobile, and out of trouble.

You still throw out boons—and a lot of them, all of which last for a really long time—but instead of having to rely on allies receiving these boons for your own survival, you’re “untethered” from them, and can use whatever you need, whenever you need it, regardless of how many allies are in range. In a dungeon, that’s not as much of a concern as it may be elsewhere, but there’s still a lot of times where a longbow ranger or greatsword mesmer may be hanging back to deal more damage with their autoattacks, or someone might be hanging back at 1200 range with low health, taking some potshots at a boss while waiting for their heal to come back up. Since your shouts are 600-range, in an AH build these people are indirectly reducing your survivability. In a Boonway build, you don’t care—that ally won’t get the benefit of all of your boons, but that’s their loss, not yours.

When I bought GW2 I read about all the professions and started to hesitate between warrior and guardian. Finally I chose a guardian because it fits more my character. I’m loyal and I like to play for the team.

Norn because they look awesome. And imo to choose a human in a fantasy game is just boring. If you get me, I can play a human all day irl :P

Female because I’m a girl. Tried to play a male character in another game and didn’t feel comfortable.

condition meta needs to be fixed

I’m a pretty dedicated WvW player, and recently I’ve been seeing a massive surge of condition based characters running around. It’s namely necro/engie and they’re near impossible to kill 1v1, or even Xv1 in some cases. This is just like the broken warrior stun chain nonsense; it can be “countered”, but realistically nobody can counter as much as the spam can be inflicted.

The way that condition classes can inflict massive amounts of conditions that put out ridiculously high damage and still be relatively tanky due to their gear and build (carrion/rabid) is flat out overpowered; i can see how anet intended it to work but at this point the mechanic is broken. You can read up on the various other issues this current meta is causing on the PvP subforums to get a good idea from people who know what they’re talking about.

This isn’t a matter of “l2p” (the classic sign of someone defending something that’s broken and they play it) because there’s nothing that counters this at all. Lemongrass? Expensive and countered by Pizza. Lyssa/Melandru Runes? Pigeonhole you into being too specifically anti-condition while not being powerful enough to be worth it. Cleansing? Hardly anything can cleanse as fast as the conditions are re-inflicted.

The fact that your character needs to be defined specifically to one role be even slightly effective against the condition meta is enough to know this needs to be altered.

Necro/engie/ranger meta builds need some serious looking at and conditions need to be fixed (necro ESPECIALLY). Simple as that.

And to boot my character isn’t even a glass cannon. 18k hp, decent toughness, full exotics etc.

No need to zoomhack to see the arrow carts on the wall : there’s a little elevation in front of the door. I go there. And there, you can see the top of the arrow cart. Press “CTRL” to see where they are, target, and then go at the door, and use dragon tooth from the scepter to depop the siege engine.

And if you can’t see the machine, target the man, It works too.

Its wasnt at the gate or on the wall and not even AC but a ballista around lord stairs.

it’s pretty much the same as exploiting into a tower or keep. so the answer is……. possibly, if they actually feel like bothering to look into it, which is doubtful. so like every other exploit in WvW, there’s a 5% chance. if it were PvE, you’d be banned within 20 minutes. but it’s WvW, so they can’t be bothered to make sure people are playing legitimately.

i’ve always hated emote spam, and wanted to see it removed for a different reason. it’s insanely hard to hide when it constantly spams that you’re sitting/sleeping out in a radius around you. its like a frickin’ homing beacon. it’s been in every MMO i’ve ever played, and it’s been absolutely unnecessary. if it’s used in a social situation, i can see the dude i’m talking to sit down. no one is going to be like “oh crap, what did he do?? he’s not standing anymore!! holy crap! i’m scared!!!” then look over and read the chat box, breath a huge sigh of relief and say" whew!!! he’s only sitting. i’m glad the game made it a point to tell me that. now if only it would remind me each time i’m supposed to breath….."

instead, they stick it in there like we’re too dumb to comprehend what we just watched. then, if someone wants to make use of kneeling, sitting, or laying down for stealth purposes, they’re SOL. and don’t even get me started on that obnoxious neon sign floating over my head. name tag….. when was the last time you went into burger king and saw one of those over the head of the dude behind the counter? maybe if you were tripping your balls off, but not if you were sober.

as for mesmers:: 1. keep track of the times for their phantasm like phantasmal berserker hits every 7seconds so you want to avoid that every 7seconds
2. have retaliation up, when they blurred frenzy if you do not block it, one way to do it is light fields/blast finisher
3. create space with leaps cause mesmers are slow too creating space gives you time to get your heals up and re engage the fight its also a good way to keep track of who the real mesmer is because they often assume your going to run away and start chasing

We where on EB around 9-10 o’clock with 15-20 of slay and we wiped the gandara zerg (25-30) guys.
We switch to all borders aswell.
If you guys don’t have the men power on your borderland, then thats your problem.
So we aren’t affraid of any1 and aren’t walking away from any fights aswell.
We have many players in slay who play’s long and make late hours.
You just jealous that you guys don’t have such a guild on late.

Still couldn’t take Durios until i left for Klovan. Couldn’t fight you cause 70% of zerg is undisciplined and hard to control over chat alone not to mention rallying. Don’t brag about wiping scaled and reckless people.

But i’m hoping i’ll meet you again with Yaks like night before. You didn’t walked away from fight but then again…you didn’t see us coming couple of times.

He wasn’t bragging. He was replying to someone who was intimating our guild only fought when there was no-one around to fight, so gave an example in reply of some fighting that happened tonight.
I don’t think you would like your guild mentioned in such a way and we didn’t either…

Many of us find PvE to be mechanical and pointless. A minor improvement on FPS games at best.
There’s little challenge in it, the scenarios presented are childish (teenage at best) and the grind-and-reward system would be insulting to the intelligence of a flatworm.

As far as I’m concerned PvE is a training and test area where I can try out game mechanics in peace (open world PvP? – no thank you!)

Unfortunately, there are a lot of children who play this game (shock, horror) and the PvE stuff appeals to many of them. I dare say there’s a population of adults in there too. It takes all sorts.
So every time Anet add a new ‘shiny thing’ they will all go running to grab their ‘unique’ digital copy.

Well, that’s the price you pay for being able to WvW. Like it or not the flatworms provide the bulk of the development cash.
Don’t be mad, because without the PvE market, you wouldn’t have this game at all. There simply aren’t enough ‘hard’ WvW enthusiasts to provide the cash needed to compete in the game market.

But I do feel your pain.

You’re talking about WoW.

It’s horrible. High level characters lurk in the starter zones and at any travel choke point or resource node, just waiting for a low-level character to wander by trying to play the game. Then they kill them.

You can’t do anything without the constant risk that just when you’ve beaten a mob down almost to stomping (and you’re at half health) someone will pop out and send you back to the graveyard.

What bothers me is these programs are easy to get. If they are not doing so already ANET should be using these programs themselves to see what memory addresses they use and how they work. Reverse engineer the fixes. The easiest way to find where the holes are is a bucket is to fill that bucket with water yourself and watch where the water leaks out. It is much more difficult to ask players to submit a report on exactly where that bucket is leaking.

I do get a chuckle out of these hack sites however. They call themselves “elite” gamers. There is nothing “elite” about cheating and it is just a pathetic way to make yourself appear better then you could ever hope to be.

Hacks and hackers aren’t the problem.

Arena Net built a fence, made it 4 ft. high and said “Hey! Don’t jump this fence.” The volume of exploits I’ve encountered on accident is a testament to the poor level of asset protection implemented into the core design. Add in a high volume of players who will do things just because they can, and a group of programmers better at probing and data mining lines of code than anyone on Arena Net’s payroll, and BAM! You have a problem.

The one year mark is upon us and I can already see it coming apart at the seams. The community is segregated, the development model alienates PvP, the game is riddled with bugs, exploits and exploiters abound, hacks are readily available and consistently unaddressed, the Gem Store is underutilized, the development team consistently underachieves, and the competitors are months from launching…and we all know they’re taking notes.

The current path GW2 is on has it slated to be a gamers plan B or plan C if the MMOs they really want to play end up a flop. It’s not going to have a very large or strong core PvP (this includes WvW) community as we all begin fragmenting across other communities willing to give us the relatively bug free, exploit light (and harshly punished), and nearly hack proof PvP focused game experience GW2 assured us we’d have and failed to deliver.

The future success of GW2 currently hinges on the failure of future MMOs and comparative multi-player game architectures.

Seriously, there is a glut of golems right now for a few different reasons, which should start to balance out over time. The price on the TP has started to rise again and likely enough they will be much less plentiful as they continue to be used. We are definitely aware of the change to the game that making golems tradeable has had and we’ll keep looking for ways to adjust the balance of the game, but for now stop those golems!

The main problem, and easiest fix, is the golem per map cap itself. Bring it down to something reasonable (5-10) and solve the whole problem.

The price is rising, but is the supply falling? Also, do you have data on how many people have piles of them in the bank waiting for the price to go back up? Is it possible that the glut of gold in the economy due to the champion loot changes and pavillion/gauntlet farming has simply caused the cost of most goods to rise?….

Golems take a lot of supplies to make, so instead of sitting in your T3 tower waiting for the 30-50 golem zerg to show up, why not do more map control and watch them camps, you control the supply line, you control the map…..if you cant be bothered to do that, then be prepared to sit and wait for them 30-50 golems to come at you.

Here people, wisdom being handed out, get some of it before it runs out!

Too late, it ran out, wasn’t much there to begin with though.

I can build a 50 golem army without ever taking a camp on the map I plan to rush. How you gonna stop that? I won’t explain how, because I’m tired of seeing it, but where there’s a will, there’s a way.

The nightly 30-50 golems rushes employed by zerg servers

then go to a different server.

i wvw daily on a smaller server and have no such issues.

According to your posting history a month ago you mostly played PvE, two months ago you were level 52 and were sick of playing on your own, etc etc.

Better idea – you move to a different a server and then offer some perspective that makes even the slightest bit of practical sense. I’ve played in T1, i’m playing in T6 right now. Sliding further and further down the rankings to escape broken mechanics is hardly a solution, and not experiencing a problem isn’t the same as there being no problem, kk.

My first visit to WvWs for over a week (except for easy bank access ;p )
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand….

Defending Briar whilst uw had it, half a dozen enemy glitch in. Not an accident, as they ran straight to lords room /sigh
Thinking, bah, a one off…
Nope. Defending Bay when a thief did the same at north west gate. Glitched, downed a couple & finally died. Got a screenie, but pointless emailing it in as there`s no names shown, except guilds..
Mesmer inside bay, getting res from folk outside.

Nice to see nothing has changed….
