The only Mortar ive seen doing this is the one at north gate, but in saying that given the locations of the 2 Mortars at north I think this was an intended design as they are nearly beyond useless where they are sitting, they should have removed them both and added Arrow Carts in there for defense instead.

If you think the north mortars are placed in such a way that they’re “useless” you don’t know how to use mortars. The north mortars have the best placement of any of the mortars, IMO.

You can hit the entire “lane” minus the very bottom from the north mortars (and the arrow carts cover the bottom / ammo stack, so that’s fine). Enemies are never too close to you that you’ll overshoot them while they’re following siege so you’re able to lay down shots the entire path of the seige, only if the enemies agro you do they ever get too close, unlike say mid where you can’t hit anything directly in front of you because of the elevation and the close proximity to the lane itself. You can also cover the arrow carts in case enemies agro them, and most importantly you have a perfect shot at some of the enemy spawn points, so you can place an incendiary round there and have them burning as they spawn.

South and middle lanes can easily be tagged w/o anything.
But now I stick with middle because people fail way too much on that easy boss.
When I’m there, none of the lane ever failed.
I care more about the end chest (which contains potential 1000g worth of item) than those petty bags, so I choose not to tag multiple bosses, but to ensure victory.

I’ve been lucky enough not to see this. That is, I’ve seen the mortar user aiming it at the Vinewrath, but not seen a queue to do so or people being nasty about it on one side or the other.

I almost always go to North since it usually needs people and I don’t have reflects for mid and south is full up with people. I try to grab the southern mortar there because it is the most fun I can have, with coverage of the lane and the ammo dump, as well as the ability to support the arrow carts and knock off vines menacing the northern mortar.

Sometimes I dodge off it to avoid getting wrecked by hurled rocks or by poison pools, and sometimes someone else leaps on it when I do, but generally I can keep it pointed at north lane mordrem and burn them to slaggy bits. Fun!

I don’t see how the mortar can be that helpful firing at the boss fight, though. It’s not like you can see where your shots land, and the boss moves around so much you can’t even repeat a lucky hit if you see the damage numbers floating (those floater numbers are how I zero in on the mordrem menacing the ammo dump, plus I can track the movement of burning mordrem as they charge up the alley and more accurately bring the mortar to bear). So it really is to get a tag, and I don’t see the point. Don’t folks interested in parts just get the guaranteed extractor and tag a fort boss? If it’s for crests, jeeze. I’ve bought all the stuff the vendors offer, got plenty of keys, and started funding the Camp Resolve event guy just to clear crests out of inventory and I only do a Silverwastes round once or twice a day, if that. Everyone at VW gets rewards when a lane beats a boss, no tagging needed.

Again, it seems pointless to use the mortar as the OP describes.

Actually, I regularly use both mortars at north to hit the bosses. That’s not to say I don’t use them as intended; I still hammer the ammo dump and pepper the lane as needed. But when I see that the lane is well covered (players stealthing/healing the siege, proper use of crowd control, optimal population keeping spawns down), I turn my sights on the boss room. It may not seem like much, but on troll and thrasher, where the bosses tend to stay around mid, 2.5K+ per second, plus burn duration, definitely helps when I can’t be present for the boss battle itself.

Note, that I did not start this with loot credit in mind. My entire thought process was “mid says they’re suffering… I wonder if I can reach with this mortar?”. I’ve seen the lines form and get really nasty. I’ve received rude, nasty, and downright report-worthy whispers when I refuse to “let next in line get a turn” in favor of keeping the heat on the boss from someone that’s not going to change proven aim. And all over one champ bag. It’s insane. I’m not “denying someone loot”; I’m ensuring the boss is taking extra damage.

So you basically want an existing and quite tactical feature removed because players who are actually contributing to the general success of the event gain some more mordrem parts whose only purpose is to be conversed into another currency?

They aren’t using it to contribute to the map or to the fight, they are using it to get tags on the boss. The players I’ve encountered were huddled around the mortar, arguing about getting a turn to tag the boss and doing nothing else to help the event. Obviously they are abusing what may have been put in for tactical purposes, to get some loot reward.

People are berated for trying to adjust the mortar to shoot into the lane or onto the ammo, and when I’ve tried to reason with the person shooting the boss I was told to shut up or just lol’d at. I know many people do events for loot, but at the point where getting loot interferes with the event itself, I think it needs to be looked at by anet.

Best regards

If this was all that was happening, it would be fine. But it’s gotten to the point where, and you might know this if you actually read the op, people stand around taking turns on the mortar instead of helping the lane. This means the lane enemies are scaled up in anticipation of players and a mortar who essentially aren’t there, not to mention the instance population space being wasted.

I literally just had someone run from south or mid lane to north lane, aggro an enemy over to me on the mortar (while I was helping the carrier/ammo), have it down me, and get on the mortar instead of ressing me. That is…beyond toxic.

The mortar is causing people to do really kitteny things, weighing down everyone else who wants to do the event properly. Also, the mortar is not remotely necessary to beat any of the champions.

They absolutely are not contributing to the general success of the event, they are leeching.

During the Vinewraith event, people are using the mortars to get tags on the boss instead of actually participating in the event or using the mortars to defend the carrier or ammo. It’s gotten to the point where people just stand around the mortar taking turns and then wait to run in at the end when the bosses are all dead. They just laugh (and worse) when its suggested that they use the mortar for the event. It’s getting out of hand.

I think this should be changed to make the mortar shots not go into the boss room.

Thanks.

The one with the skritts in the low Charr area has problems. The cannons, that you can click on to advance the heart, have a longish cooldown and it’s for everyone so if more than one person is doing that, they block each other. There are no cannonballs to pick up and, iirc, the Skritt don’t count unless there is an event. I’ve never seen the Devourer part working. That particular heart can be difficult to advance. I usually hover around the cannons and click them as they become active.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

I really hate the new leveling system as far as traits go. It used to be really cool to get a few levels, and then play around with all the new traits and abilities you got. Now, you don’t even get to play with traits till level 80, because you don’t get more than 2-4 traits points until 75 or so. And even then, you have to unlock every trait, something that a new player is not going to be able to to, because they wont have the trait points or the gold to do so. Yes, you can go do events to unlock them, but for some classes, certain traits are needed just to make the class work. Like engineers need grenadier just for the grenade kit to even be worthwhile, and that is significant because without the grenade kit our dammage is significantly lower. So, doing these events to get traits that we need just to make our class viable is exceptionally painful.

All in all, the way the trait system works now makes leveling painful, and the opposite of fun. Which goes against the very motto of this game: “the journey is the destination.” If that’s the case, well, the destination sucks. I really hope A-net goes back to the old trait system, because I had a lot more fun with it.

So I decided to re-roll a new character for the first time since all the leveling changes and tutorial stuff was added. I must say overall I like the new UI they added, while it was not needed for me I can see how it would be extremely helpful for new players. One big problem I have with how they changed the early zones though. Most of the events were either removed or severely dumbed down to the point they are no longer fun. This goes for hearts as well. A few small examples that really irks me: Assisting at the Iron legion armory/forge in Plains of Ashford- you used to be able to do a multitude of things to complete the heart such as put lost tools back in the tool bin, recycle scrap metal in the forge, and actually pick up the unexploded ordinance and toss them around. Now all you can do is….kill some flame legion and spam click the UED’s (but not pick them up)….

Another example is the hear north of that where you can assist in dealing with skritt and the cannon range. The cannons are now spam fire. No aiming, no dialing in your shots…just click it and move on. The devourer egg event seems to be not working anymore either. These are not problems specific to Plains of Ashford. Most low level zones suffer from this malady now.

tl;dr: Why, oh why, was all the fun and unique aspects removed from the hearts and why were the low level zones so “dumbed down” for a lack of better term? I used to enjoy hanging out in them but now it lost it’s appeal.

Yeah I had similiar problems, with things like golemchess simply beeing disabled, it made many hearts in the starting zones waaay less fun to play through. I hope they decide to change them back the way they were, because new players miss out on a lot of fun in those reduced quests.

This is already reported. And is in fact a bug that somehow happens on death and respawn. There really isn’t a way to fix it beside leaving the game and coming back. It is unknown how this bug/exploit can be reproduced so you can’t tell whether someone just had the bug or if they are abusing the bug which would be an exploit. Still the way you present this post and thread is shaming the said engi which has his name in the video which is against forum rules. Shadow was being helpful in trying to prevent you from receiving forum infractions for violating the rules. The beginning where you show the engi’s name is not allowed so you should remove that part of your video.

It’s also not engi specific it can happen to anyone.

You think they’re just sippin’ Guinness with their legs on the table, laughing together at the frustrated needy players who are complaining on the forums?

I sure am glad the waited a week to test this patch before pushing it live…..

Someone must have cracked under pressure:

Anet: “Are you ready with the kitten patch, we’ve been promising it for Tuesday”

Programmer: “We need more programmers, I can’t do all of this myself, fix all the bugs at the same time as programming HoT and the only new PvP map, while all your artists are smoking cigars designing costumes and hats for the Gem Store… And I don’t care about first person view anyway, it’s a gimmick, unless we did it properly with first person view weapons”

Anet: “We need the patch, now!!!!”

Programmer: “ok, ok, whatever it would require months anyway to fix the issues, here you go” (goes to look for a new job)

Gamers: “Yo your new patch has like a million bugs, can’t play, fps drop, won’t install, etc…”

Anet: “Can you fixed all the issues you didn’t have time to fix before the release, take your time.”

Programmer: Epic facepalm

Perhaps not. But with a Public Test Server and actual players logging in, you can get much closer, and your customers can decide for themselves if they want to beta test your latest patch.

So, why do these game with PTS still end up having glaring bugs when the patches are released?
Clearly something doesn’t work, and I would rather have ArenaNet spending money on developing the game than spending money on a PTS that potentially will do nothing at all other than spoil content.

It is of course also rather easy to avoid any potential issues that comes with a patch: Wait a couple of days for any issues to get patched. It is not like you have a subscription that is ticking away.

Ok. Let’s be critically honest. Majority of the time, Anet pulls through with good updates on a consistent basis. Broken stuff gets fixed pretty quickly. But this update….it’s a first. Jeez Anet, what happened? Did you accidentally upload the wrong file or something?

There were so many bugs, glitches, and exploits, it was unlike you guys. An update this buggy – it’s something I’d expect from one of those ‘pay-to-win’ cashshop MMOs.

From my perspective, this is the first update where something got royally screwed up. But since it’s the first and they’ve done so many good stuff beforehand…it’s not that bad. (Or is it? Hall of Monuments, people?) don’t get me wrong, the camera upgrade is awesome, and I’m liking the stability updates (Yes, I like them).

Besides, what is there to do? It’s done, it’s done. Move on. Hey, people are only human. Instead of raging and strangling each other at the throats, time and effort would be better spent in reporting the bugs, amirite?

First of all, I do not mind bugs..they happen and will be solved.

I DO mind however the amount of it AND the fact that thousands of players are using this “system” on daily basis. If we should release our website with updates and the bug count should be this high..oh boy, we would be SOOO in trouble…(triple trouble to say the least :P )
The difference however is..our site is an “need to use” for our society..this is “JUST” a game..but still one who has a huge dedicated fanbase, so there are obligations to deliver at least a less buggier product.

Its a bug. — Therefor its temporary. — Totally acceptable.

No, it’s not.

They delayed this update a week and still pushed it out wayyyyyyy too early. Rushing updates is just dumb.

If it wasn’t enough time to at least test to make sure something as basic as chat bubbles/down state not being green, random male charr noises coming from my human female character, and the plethora of other problems released this patch then it’s pretty obvious they’re understaffed. Tequatl is no exception to this and OP has every reason to be uptight about it.

Total crap. Do you think for every patch they test every single world boss every time? If there were no changes to Teq, they wouldn’t have tested Teq. They are testing the things they change. A bug that creeps into one specific boss is impossible to track down unless they’re specifically testing for it.

Sure the OP can be kittened off that a boss is bugged, but saying it’s unacceptable is silly because software updates come with bugs all the time in every program, not just every game.

Software bugs are a fact of life. Saying they’re unacceptable is like saying mistakes are unacceptable. It’s like saying that bad dreams are unacceptable.

Annoying sure. It’s annoying. But expecting every piece of older content to be tested every time there’s a patch…that’s not realistic.

You sound real entitled to this huh? well, sorry bud. you aint a dev, so bugger off.

So I am a developer, and I can tell you this update seems much buggier that it should have been.

Indeed it was buggy, but considering the amount of content Anet has for a $60 game. this in MY opinion can be ignored, if you are a dev. then you would know that not everything can always come out properly ready, as in things will always have one bug or another. nothing is a “Perfect” patch.
