Smart Gear: Swap Stats & Skins

in Suggestions

Posted by: Deimos Tel Arin.7391

Deimos Tel Arin.7391

Introduction:
Imagine we have an Axe, that can freely hot swap (while out of combat) its:
Skin into either AC, COF or HOTW, etc
Stat into Rampager, Berserker, Soldier, etc
Sigil into Sigil of Accuracy, Sigil of Leeching, etc

Imagine again, if we can do it for every piece of equipment we own.
Now, it would be very awesome, yes?
Say hello to the SMART GEAR system!

Origin:
Inspired by my original “Smart Armor System” in the original Guild Wars
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/smart-armor-system-v3-0-t10071643.html

Idea:
Able to switch the “Skins (Trinket Icons)”, “Prefix (Insignia)” and “Suffix (Armor Runes, Weapon Sigils)” of equipment after “absorbing” them.
Armor: Skins, Prefix (Insignia), Suffix (Armor Runes)
Weapons: Skins, Prefix (Insignia), Suffix (Weapon Sigils)
Trinkets: Icons, Prefix (1st Ascended Stats), Suffix (2nd Ascended Stats), Infusion

Execution:
Can only change the Skins & Stats while not in combat.

Example:
[Insignia][V] [Skin][V] of [Rune][V]
Click on the [V] to bring down a list of unlocked items.

Acquisition
Complete long chain of personal SMART GEAR quest.
Use Transmutation Crystal to unlock an item.

Example
Berserker’s Svanir Chestguard of Dwayna

Use 5 Transmutation Crystal to unlock:
Rampager’s Insignia
Cleric’s Insignia
Soldier’s Insignia
Superior Rune of Melandru
Superior Rune of Dolyak

[Insignia][V] [Skin][V] of [Rune][V]
Insignia have 4 choices: Berserker, Rampager, Cleric, Soldier
Skin have 1 choice: Svanir
Rune have 3 choices: Dwayna, Melandru, Dolyak

Each armor piece has 3 “variables” mainly “Skin”, “Insignia (Stats)” and “Runes”.
These 3 “variables” can be freely changed after unlocking them.

Pros:
Guild Wars 2 the first to have such an unique equipment system.
Promotes “gotta get them all” game play.
Makes things very convenient for players.
Most people will be more likely to pay real dollars for convenience.
Frees up lots and lots of inventory space.
No need for equipment wardrobes anymore.
Optional.

Cons:
None.

New wardrobe system!

(Apologies for the double post. I originally put this in the suggestions forum, but it didn’t receive any attention at all. Here’s hoping it gets a little more love here).

I would love to see a wardrobe system available in this game. Similar to how City of Heroes and DC Universe Online allow(ed) you to unlock a certain skin once its been acquired.

How I see it working:
Once you find a piece of gear, you keep the gear, but also unlock that particular skin in a wardrobe (type of library), that you can then enter and start re-skining anything you’re currently wearing with whatever you have unlocked. (Similar to the dyes library).

You could select from anything you’ve previously unlocked in order to come up with some very interesting new looks in a preview window. Then once you’re happy, you’re taken to a confirmation screen where it will add up all the transmutation stones required for re-skinning. So that way Arenanet can still charge us for transmute stones.

I think this is especially handy for people who have spent many MANY hours grinding dungeons for a particular armor set. You can unlock the dungeon skin and reuse it at a later date if you want to take a break from that look for a while. I don’t want to have to run the dungeon 30 more times if I want to get that look back one day.

In summary:
- All acquired gear skins are saved in a ‘wardrobe’ type library
- Re-skin anything you’re currently wearing with whatever skins you’ve unlocked in your library (similar to the dyes)
- Preview an entire new look
- Proceed with purchase, where you will be charged the amount of transmutation stones required (with a link to buy more if you’re missing them)

Would love, love, LOVE to see something like this implemented some day!

Such a positive outlook on the situation

Gotta go with the trend ArenaNet has given us each patch. Ascended has always had large time gates placed on it(rings were actually the lowest). So it’s only natural whatever ascended item they add to WvW will take at least 20+ days to get, perhaps a new WvW daily and currency? I joke, but also shudder because they’ll probably do that.

ArenaNet has also been alienating certain players each patch. At first it was WvW and Dynamic event players with forcing them to do fractals. Then it was forcing Dungeon players to do dailies. This patch it was WvW players(new dailies are hard to complete in WvW most days), dungeon players, and small guild players. Obviously next patch they will alienate dynamic event players and dungeon players.

Just saying that going by the patch trend I wouldn’t get my hopes up. I think after the patch you might have a bunch of people asking for it to be reverted, somehow they always take a positive addition and mangle into something that hurts the game.

My predictions:

The only major thing they will add is the world experience advancement system and I’m not sure if Ascended will be tied to the new system or badges. They will completely remove culling and then people will start whining about their computers not being able to handle it. Everything else will be a HUGE letdown and PvE players will be absolutely furious that they need to PvP to get Ascended gear. Of course the ascended cost will be insane, as usual, and more people will quit the game.

Am I close :P

What we do NOT need… a new currency in WvW. Anet seems to be creating new game currency every update (a really bad idea). Let’s hope that stops. Badges are the WvW currency, so I hope they use that.

Other hopes:
1. All ascended gear is available for purchase with badges
2. A new 2 server set of maps.
3. Ability for commanders to unclaim keeps/towers/camps if there are no active buffs
4. Culling fix. At the least, revert back to the original culling system

Some things that I disagree with the OP
1. There should not be penalties for zergs. Some of us really enjoy that type of fight and it is the reason we even play WvW. Smaller groups should be encouraged through increased drop rates or achievements.
2. Keep WvW and PvE activities separate. There are way too many bandwagon jumpers in this game already. We don’t need to see people jumping servers every week based on the buffs.
3. Eles seem perfect? They are the strongest class currently in WvW. The heal nerf from sPvP should have been carried over.

Will World XP and Titles be retroactive?

Esoteric.5490

If you want to talk about “entitlement” or being “childish”, talk about the attitude that people who did not dedicate themselves to WvW have that this is perfectly okay since it’s “fair”. Excuse me, if you want fair, then every WvW player should be compensated with a legendary of their choice. My 1000 hours in WvW would have netted me 2 or 3. Do you think ANet is going to give me one? Nope. So do I think ANet should balance title progress for people who never played WvW? KITTEN NO. You cannot complain for a second that PvE rewards weren’t there and weren’t plentiful. WvW players lived in monetary squalor with nothing but the amount of kills we had to mark that we accomplished anything. Now with 5,000+ badges collecting dust and WvW title tracks that won’t “count” for any ATTAINABLE titles, what do I have to show for that 1000 hours other than the fact that I could pubstomp you if you came into a quarter mile of one of my towers?

Talk about fair? Childish? Compensation? Kitten, man. We are just asking for EVENT CREDIT. Like escorting a Dolyak for no karma and no silver and no experience. Give me just the title based off of what I’ve done and just have the passive bonuses catch up eventually. Give me the little medal at the top of my screen to say “Good job, champ!” It isn’t “getting new content immediately”, it’s getting a title that I and many WvW players like me EARNED with hard work. Instead, WvW players are left with empty bags, bank slots, infusion slots, and title tracks while players like you can waltz in with your legendaries like you’ve been here the whole time. Give me a kittening break.

GW2 revolves around grind and time tables..

Being against farming, GW2 is a farm fest. Try being a WvW player. You pretty much have to fund yourself by farming PvE. And if you want to experiment with your build you can expect hundreds of more hours farming easy bad PvE content over and over again. I really don’t know why WvW didn’t get the same treatment as sPvP. PvE in this game is very limited. It had its novelty for a while. Now I just have to grind it to fund my WvW, which is complete BS that I have to do this to be able to afford to play WvW.

Daily/Weekly Gated Content excludes Players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lady Lozza.9670

Lady Lozza.9670

The new daily system and the new guild mission system is gated. I use this term because there is a hard limit to the number of laurels and guild commendations you can receive for any day/week/month.

The reasons for this is obvious – it artificially slows players down from being able to achieve the items of higher costs. This is good for some casual players, an office worker in a 9 to 5 job can probably spare an hour every evening to do their dailies, they can probably manage their monthly without putting in any extra time – so it’s not hard for a working player to earn 40 laurels a month.

Guild commendations similarly have limits though those limits depend heavily on the size of the guild involved. I’m not going to go into the size issue which is covered by more threads, all that one needs to know for this topic is that players can earn X commendations per week (where X is dependent on guild size and a few other factors).

I’m going to hazard a guess and say that Anet has forgotten a portion of the working player population in the design of the new daily laurels and weekly guild commendations. Not everyone can earn 40 laurels a month, or X commendations a week. And those of us who cannot have no way to make up for that loss. The people I’m talking about are people like me, the workers in the resource industry.

We need mines, and oil rigs, and CSG, because these industries produce the metals we build our PCs with, and the electricity we run them off. Those of us who willingly work in this industry don’t work a 9-5 job in a city office, we work in remote locations with little to no internet access, long hours, and typically spending only one week of every month at “home”.

Now some of you might say we are paid well for our time, and in general we are – but we can’t buy laurels, we can’t buy the chance to do the dailies we miss. In short in one month we can make 17 laurels maximum, regardless of how many hours we can put in. In my one week at home I might well be able to put in more hours of play than an office worker can in one month, but I am severely punished by the game for this style of play.

Anet if you want to support players who don’t have the time to grind out high level gear, why are you gating ascended gear in a way that punishes those of us who spend time doing necessary jobs in remote areas where game play every day simply isn’t possible?

A large part of the free to play mentality has always been if you can’t put in the hours you can pay to have cool stuff. But if Joe Blogs (living and working in NYC) and I both put in 30 hours of play a month Joe is rewarded with double the progression towards top level gear. Equal “work”, but very unequal “pay”.

The reason they’re doing it is because of their dedicated expression of being “against farming”.

This is your answer. They designed the game to reward explorers and social gamers, but there was a flood of MMO min/maxers who chewed through everything in the game in 1/10th the intended time and demanded more. So every system introduced since has been an attempt to keep these players and botters from flooding the game with items and materials gleaned from the most efficient grinding spots and to keep players from using the “best” build of each class and ignoring everything else.

But it’s a futile effort. Players dedicated to grinding and farming will still flock to the best spots, even if they have to jump from one map to another to do it. And no matter how they try to balance abilities, some classes and some builds will always be slightly better than others. They are just following their natures, the ones who play the way Anet intended, people who are in the game to run with their guildies or just like to explore the content without ignoring the lower 90% of the world are having fun. It’s just the min/maxers who are frustrated because the game was not designed to support their preferred activities, and in fact further development actively discourages such play.

No sandbox features (customizable player/guild housing, open world consentual pvp, guild vs guild).

GW2 is mostly strictly directed scenario based gameplay, where the player has little if any control. It does however have nice graphics and a huge world. But gameplay wise after level 80, i feel like a puppet on a string, or a mouse in a maze waiting to follow direction.

Once upon a time, ANet designed a game where the only things people might choose to do that required time commitment were gaining a dungeon set, or a legendary weapon. Everything else in the game, and there was a lot of it, was for fun. ANet envisioned gamers choosing to do whatever they wanted because it was whatever they wanted.

Then their vision met reality, in the form of a horde of players who wanted the results as quickly and easily as possible. Said horde clamored for more, for progression, for something new to do, for more and better stuff. And so ANet realized what other MMO developers have known all along. A large percentage of players play for rewards.

You know, all that fun stuff they designed in the first place, the stuff that was supposed to be done for fun? It’s still out there. The only thing keeping people from doing it is their own choices.

Brawl and kegs, where are the other little neat mini-games that they talked about prior to release? They seem to have forgotten about us, dooming this game for many old GW1 players, including myself.

Prince Rurik and Lady Althea. Anyone else see the incompatibilty here?

You are focusing too much on a certain part of the game. All you need in this game is a set of masterwork gear and then you can tackle the entire game. Just don’t try to 1vs1 in WvWvW, that’ll doom you.

I’m not too sure your being clear on what part to focus on besides what he’s said.

…hes focusing on a majority of the game as it stands.

  • He covered dailies – Focusing on casual play
  • He covered Guild Missions – Focusing on guilds
  • He covered Dungeon runs – Focusing on regular to hardcore players
  • He covered Dragons/chest events – That’s for generally anyone in the req level range.

The only thing he hasn’t mentioned is personal story – but really, very very few people like it.

Why do the devs have to design around such arbitrary slap-the-hand-in-the-cookie-jar mechanics? It seems like if they just designed working, balanced, and well-thought out systems in the first place, we wouldn’t be having this issue.

Has anyone noticed that the game seems to revolve around time tables?

1 Laurel a day
10 Laurel for monthly
3 Paths a dungeon, but repeating one in the same day gets you a slap on the wrist.
Can only get this guild currency once in the same way per week.
1 Rare per certain chest per character per day.

In my opinion, timers and time tables like this are beyond restrictive and really break immersion when they’re all the community seems to be concerned with. It seems like poor planning covered up with artificial bandages. Why is the game designed like this? Why not just accommodate the social impact in designing these features rather than trying to correct it afterwards? I’m sick of hearing about DR, players scrambling to remember which character to do Jormag or Maw with for a rare, whining about completing dailies for laurels…etc.

Where is the game amidst all these restrictions, time tables, and grind?

Policy: 3rd-Party Programs; Multi-Boxing; Macros

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Gaile Gray

Gaile Gray

ArenaNet Communications Manager

As part of ArenaNet’s policy on third-party programs, we are often asked about multi-boxing and the use of macros. Here is our policy:

Macros

Guild Wars 2 players are permitted to use macros as long as the macros are programmed with a 1 key for 1 function protocol.

  1. This means that if you program a macro, it must require one keystroke per action. You may not program a single key to perform multiple functions.
  2. For example, if you Press A and it results in the casting of a single skill, you’re ok. If you Press A and it casts multiple spells, you’re not ok.
  3. You cannot program a macro to perform the same or multiple actions on more than one account at a time.
  4. You cannot program an “auto-clicker” macro that, for instance, opens chests while you play elsewhere.
  5. NOTE: We make an exception for music composition or performance macros. As long as they are used solely for the performance of in-game music, they may be used without the restrictions above.

Dual- or Multi-Boxing

  1. You may use more than one account at the same time.
  2. You may use more than one computer at the same time.
  3. You must be actively playing on each account.
  4. And as stated above, you may not program your keyboard to perform functions on more than one account at a time.
    a. For example, if you press W on your keyboard to move forward, a single character on a single account should move forward. The keystroke or mouse click should not perform functions on more than one account.

Edited 09-12-2016: We wanted to make it clear that music macros, when properly used, are fully acceptable, so this thread post has been expanded to include that content. We will be updating the mirrored posts in French, German, and Spanish, as well. Play on!

Rangers arent bad, unless you use bow.

Gear: Full zerker, Ascended Gear, 30/30/x/x/x. Armor=Ruby Orb’s Zerker.

Shortbow = Hits 800-1.2k. With 25 bloodlust stacks, can go up to 1.4k maybe.
Greatsword = Hits 2k-3.6k(Top DPS on the Leap finisher and 1 other)
1H Sword= 1.5-2.3k DPS (Needs a revamp as the dodges are annoying)
AXE OFFHAND = THIS IS YOUR KING DPS. 12X Whirling Defense, my end burst was 9.9k, meaning hits leading up to it was 6k>>7k>>etc.. quite alot of DPS AND reflects.

So, your 1.5-2.5k Ele Fire Auto attack better than this how? Also, why do you guys use bow? Just because its a “Ranger”? I use bow like i use all my ranged weapons, sparingly. Only on epic boss fights where zerker is impossible etc, but for general PvE, and dungeons like CoF, CoE, SE, etc… this is wayyyyy more dps.

So..l

Your end burst is… 9.9k.

Let’s investigate the OP.

Hopefully he answers a few simple questions.

  • Do you know what D P S stands for?
  • Do you know how to calculate D P S ?
  • If so, what do you think is the D P S of whirling defense

otherwise don’t try to theorycraft. The ranger community is already unnecessarily scarred by misinformation, lest newer rangers get discouraged.

It’s a decent class.

Orange Swords (The recent change)

in WvW

Posted by: Esoteric.5490

Esoteric.5490

It’s simple. Orange swords used to show up for everything (5 players hitting guards).

ANet has stated publicly that they do not like the fact that “zerging” is the current meta because it is not what they foresaw for WvW.

The institution of Orange swords for groups of 25 or more directly benefits smaller scale warfare, splitting forces, stealth, and hitting multiple targets simultaneously. A single force cannot cover 4+ objectives under attack without losing at least 1-2, even with a waypoint. Orange swords going away effectively discourages zerging. Guilds and servers will still try to get away with it, but the sooner forces wake up and run in smaller groups, the sooner those zergs find themselves being pretty ineffectual. Also, I realize this may be a bit extreme for T7/8, but it is honestly a good thing for the rest of the game.

I imagine undermanned servers love this change, though, as it lets them move and ninja keeps with a lot more tact and stealth instead of getting steamrolled every time they proc orange swords with 5 people at a camp.

why give players defense against siege? and why make them do more damage to it?

the point of defensive siege is to make it so the few can kill the many, and in general offensive siege is not about killing players, its about killing structures and siege. reducing the effectiveness of defensive siege is NOT needed with how easy it is to simply ignore when you have enough people.

I have spent probably around 90% of my GW2 time in WvW. I have been in there nearly everyday since launch. I have continued putting a lot of hours in WvW despite the lack of progression, gold, gear, culling issues and lag. If Anet comes through with this change and does not add retroactively what I have achieved so far, it will probably be what will break the game for me. WvW has been a lot of fun, but I would also like some recognition for the effort put in so far. If as some people are saying this will help get more pve people into wvw, which I dont believe at least not in significant numbers, what benefit does it have for the game if veteran wvw people leave. Basically as far as I am concerned this will be a massive regressive step, which does not recognise those players who have put a lot of time and effort into wvw and kept it going through all the issues that it has had. If they can’t add achievements retroactively leave the new system out. All I can do now is wait for the release of the patch to see what they do.

Oh well, just another example how devs favor pve-players over pvp, nothing new about that.
