You can hate this patch all you want and you can make outragous claims of how ranger are totally screwed. With all things consider this was a good patch.
Guard was really abused in WvW. (in conjuction with mesmers) This Guard neft most likly had the least affect on overall wvw game play and still correct a problem.
It’s not so much about what was there as it is about what wasn’t there.
This really isn’t a difficult thing to understand. It’s the absence of meaningful improvements that has people so upset. We’ve been waiting since beta for them to fix the ranger.

yes the emp bond was a fix and a nerf at the same time. they fixed it to where the pet gets the conditions now but nerfed the number of conditions. However i think what is upsetting is that they will take the time to fix bugs that work in the rangers favor but don’t touch any of the bugs that are hurting the ranger.
85% increase to one ability of an offhand that is still sub par to other offhand items doesn’t help anything.
anet has even stated that rangers is the class that is in the most need of improvements. So a class that is in this state should not be receiving any kind of nerfs even if it is bug fixes until they fix some of the other stuff.
nerfing the weaker classes while buffing the already strong classes is just bad.

Except that was not what he meant, and you’re being obtuse for the sake of being obtuse. He’s referring to creating, from scratch, a well tweaked, well tuned map for a competitive environment. This isn’t like map-o-generator SSC where nothing matters, we’re talking about maps that have to be meticulously tested for siege placement, defense vs. offense balance, chockes and holds, etc…
Six months for a WvW map has been a number we’ve known since pre-launch.
Well that’s as good as any statement people have been asking for imo.
No new maps, no culling fix, no loot changes, no queue fixes. Just a progression system we have no details on yet and titles and here they’ve been telling us since December that it is SUCH A HUDGE UPDATE. I’m about done checking in to see the changes even.

It was honestly quite pathetic when even their “official” post on the forums consisted of nothing more than “this is definitely on our table, but we haven’t looked at it yet”, or “adding this to WvW is something we would really like to do, but we just don’t know how to do it yet”.
It’s all just a game that they are playing to keep people interested, while in reality they are doing absolutely nothing to change WvW.

There is no doubt their presence in those servers will be appreciated but that is also selfish at the same time. VoTF CANNOT carry any server’s EU zone by themselves.
This was what happened in SoS, so moving to a server with no or weak EU coverage is basically indirectly asking them to “carry the server” at the said timezone. There needs to be some critical mass at least. Any guild that is expected to carry a timezone by themselves will suffer burnout

I don’t get why everyone needs to play follow the leader to the next hot server. Why not stop creating 1 or 2 stacked servers and instead balance out the top six servers and actually have fun? If, big if, SoS does go the way of the ET, HoD, SBI, etc we have an opportunity to flesh out TC and FA. It seems some people just like to log-in to win, but if we got 6 servers rotating that could be a lot more fun than becoming the next stacked server for a two months and then imploding.
Striving to reach JQ’s coverage will not be successful for this game with its current population. If anything, JQ should be de-stacking a bit as well to promote the game’s ecosystem.
It’s been attempted. Laylyn, a well known figure on Blackgate attempted to balance things out by recommending servers for guilds to move to back after the fall of HoD. It worked for a little while, but it ultimately failed after a brief time period of relative stability.
It is no longer feasible to attempt this due to the costs and other assorted problems.
It’s obviously not too late. Guilds are paying to transfer to BG as we speak. More will follow. Costs and assorted problems are only an issue when you have to pay…..more? I guess that makes about as much since as kittening about coverage and stacked servers and then……stacking another server.
There are a multitude of things that occurred leading to ND and MERC moving. It’s not as simple as “We were losing”, but I don’t know the whole story, and I really don’t want to know the whole story. Trying to convince guilds to pay to move solely for balancing just isn’t possible.
I’m not trying to hammer BG or those guilds that are transferring to it….I’m more making a general statement about these recurring tendencies. It just makes me sad to see the exact same thing happen every 2 months, but somehow it’s suppose to be better this time…..right.
Now we’ll have BG and JQ hammering each other. SoR and Kaineng will trade places getting destroyed by those two with the loser destroying T2. The loser of T2 drops to T3 and destroys that tier. The loser of T3 drops to tier 4 and destroys that tier. Then, once each loser slaughters its lower pop competitors that week, they can cycle back up to get destroyed by the loser above. This is going to be….so fun.
It upsets me as well, but poor design has lead to this. Stagnation is awful, especially when the matchups are unbalanced. This will cause a mixup which will eventually balance right back to the same dilemma we are in right now.

Aside from this? Just 1 iirc, and that was before paid transfers. Nice try though.
With the “horn autoattack” i think he means the fact that, if you use horn 5 with an enemy nearby and autotargeting, you automatically aggro that enemy and start attacking it.
On the good side we are now kings of underwater combat….thats……something, right?

It’s a joke as much as anything. We had that first patch where nothing happened with ranger (October 22 https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Update-Notes-October-22-2012) and were promised “substantial changes” in the next patch. What we got next patch was 150% more damage on Harpoon auto and some other minor tweaks to greatsword (November 15 https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Game-Update-Notes-November-15-2012). This lead to lots of jokes about the ranger being Aquaman (marvel superhero reference for those who may actually not know). We’re pretty good underwater but once you get us on land we’re not so useful anymore.
December 14 (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Game-Update-Notes-December-14-2012) we got a fairly long list of changes but none were really useful changes. They were all ‘nice’ changes but they didn’t make or break any builds except the Lick Wounds change (still buggy but more powerful when it works). Unfortunately most of the changes from this patch can be described as “changing the awful and useless into mediocre and useless.” This really includes the melee pet hitting better and the arrow flight speed changes. What was awful and useless is now mediocre.
January 28 (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Game-Update-Notes-January-28-2013) was just some bug fixes really. Again nothing bad but the only reall changes were condition stats applying to Entangle (finally!) and Drakes actually using Tail Swipe (this is pretty good actually).
And that brings us to today. I don’t have high hopes for the 26th (next balance patch) but I suppose it’s possible something good will happen.
Basically the answer to the OP is since December nothing noteworthy has changed. The ranger plays exactly the same as before. What worked before works now and what didn’t work before still doesn’t work.

There is something in RL that we call physics… and GW2 don’t have a good one.

The above play style would not be possible without the proper gear, with the heavy dependence on traps my stats require a lot of condition damage, condition damage negates the toughness stat of the person being targeted and is such the most consistent form of damage in my opinion. But, condition damage is not very effective in solo or group pvp because other than the flanking with a shortbow there is no way of applying it in a fast paced Zerg skirmish or high maneuverability group fights. So my gear required decent Power and Precision stats as well, that is why I use ramapager armor and Carrion jewels for decent all around stats. Notice my crit chance is close to the 50% which is a very consistent form of damage. This spec has another big advantage over berserker gear…it is half as expensive.
Conclusion
This is in no way the end-all of specs, this spec has advantages and disadvantages. For players who want to focus on one aspect of WvW a more specialized spec will be much better.

As a member of a non-WvW active guild who plays WvW a lot, it doesn’t take long to figure out who the commanders are by name whether they have a tag on or not. Plus it’s easy to determine which commanders are worth following or not.
In fact the other day we were running around the map without a commander icon but were still acting as an organized group.
I agreee with most of your points, but the bigger priority is Nightcapping/ stale rankings/gameplay than commander books.
In a 24-hour global MMO what you’re calling “nightcapping” is simply normal game play. If anything, losing territory overnight mixes things up. It would be kind of boring if things rarely changed hands. I don’t think that one is ever going to change, much less be a priority to change.
The rankings, however, are probably going to get even more stable now that transfers are no longer free and that’s going to get stale fast for whichever server is always on the short end of it. I think they should ALWAYS switch the first and last place servers no matter what (except the overall first and last of course).
The “commander” thing just doesn’t make sense to me. Once you have that icon it should indicate you have WvW experience. Right now it’s too often just players wanting to tell others what to do. A lot of us simply ignore them until they we see them earn it. I’d really like to have confidence in that blue dot when I see it.

Hey I can see that guy on the ground shooting arrows up at me! Really, truly I can see him! He is standing right there! Look! Yet when I go to fire back I get this thing called “obstructed” and I have to stand right on the edge of the wall in order to hit him. Now correct me if I am mistaken but should not the people IN THE FORT have more protection then those OUTSIDE?

Speaking of which I know for a fact that the enemy I just killed has a Legendary weapon, exotic armor and some real nice trinkets. Why then do I only get spikes and low level stuff when I loot his corpse? Where did all that nice stuff go?
Having a clear view of 2-5 guys that you charge while solo/duo in order to farm their badges suddenly and miraculously summoning another 25+ people in a perfect ball formation around you from the bowels of some dimension called ‘culling’ which instantly vaporizes you.

And yeah, dunno about you guys, but I actually feel bad when I come up on someone alone and kill them, only afterward realizing they were likely just mapping. Unless openly attacked, there are often times I will even leave someone I see going for vistas and such alone. At very least they’re new.

WvW was kind of the whole reason I bought the game. Me and my fiancee played Warhammer for a few years, and she got addicted to open-world PvP. When that game went down the crapper (well, it kind of already was down the crapper, but it got flushed to the very bottom of the septic system, as it were), we got our PvP fix where we could until Guild Wars 2 was released. She told me, “It looks like Warhammer with a bigger budget!” At the time, I agreed. I wasn’t the jaded cynic then, that I am now.
We took our time with the game, because maybe in the back of our minds, we were trying to avoid being disappointed. But when we finally got ourselves into exotics (not as cheap or easy as people claim), we went out into WvW together. It was like being a kid excited for Christmas, but finding a stocking full of dog droppings, and a giant, steaming stool in the corner next to the cookies and milk. Now I am thinking Elder Scrolls Online is our last resort for good open-world PvP. I guess we’ll see. I don’t see this game ever being fixed, because the developers don’t really have any motivation to make that happen. To be honest, they don’t seem to really care that much about the game at all. So why should we?

I did when I first hit 10g. Then when I made 20g I thought I was swimming. I like to make my own gear cuz like the crafting and PvE stuff too, so am back down to 8g. But have a guildie who fracs and crawls alot, and when she told me her ascended back piece cost her 80g in comps….. I was disabused of the notion that I was rich. >.<
I bet he ran by a guy /sleeping and thought the guy was dead, and then he got ganked and now he’s crying, lol.
