So I don’t know if this is the best place to do this (and it probably isn’t), but Habib started it..

The most recent update has finally realized most of the hopes and dreams I had regarding world versus world all those years ago when we first started talking about it around the office (somewhere in the 2007 or 2008 area). Wuv has been near and dear to my heart ever since, and I’m extremely proud of what the wvw team has created in that time. Wvw has been my primary focus for a couple of years now, but now it is time to hand the keys to the castle to someone else, Devon is that someone.

Devon and the rest of the wvw team will be fleshing out the new systems we’ve introduced and taking care of a lot of the long standing issues that we can tackle now that the great culling dragon is dead!

I’m extremely excited to see how the game will evolve and improve over time with Devon leading the way. He’s an amazing designer and I’ve seen the list of updates the team is prepping for April, I think most of you will be extremely pleased.

For all the conspiracy theorists out there, this is completely unrelated to any news elsewhere. I’m still at Arena.net, but the next time you see my name it will be for something other than world versus world. Something quite different indeed.

Until then..

I’ll see you on the battlefield!

Similarly, why do vital logistical tasks such as upgrading, repairing, and escorting dolyaks go unrewarded?

We are in the process of evaluating the way the system is rewarding points right now and determining what we can do to make it more rewarding for players that aren’t just killing other players or capturing objectives. I’m an inveterate upgrader and repairer, so believe me when I say I’m with you on that one.

1. Our goal is to make the WvW gameplay experience as good as it can be. To that end we are always taking feedback about changes and deciding how best to turn that into action.
2. I just checked in a change to give this to you. But it won’t activate until you run into the next group of 5+ enemies you see and /dance. If it doesn’t work the first time you do that, it’s probably because the group wasn’t large enough, so try with another group until you are invulnerable.

You mark on the calender (last years) the exact date of when you last looted an exotic.
You kill kittenz whilst awaiting servers coming back online & half an hour later, realise you`d had no loot, because it didn`t land at your feet.
You see someone in open (cough) world in the distance & try to click them to see whos side they`re on.

WvW Abilities: I am confused!

First off I just want to say that I am glad that these new abilities have been implemented, but I am a little confused regarding the lack of detail in their descriptions. Sorry if some of these questions seem like they could be answered with simple common sense, but you never know, right?

“Guard Killer” and “Defense Against Guards”

Does “Guard” include everything from Legendary Castle Lords, Legendary Defenders, Champion Keep Lords, Champion Tower Lords all the way down to wizards, scouts, rogues, lone sentry, etc.? You would hope right? Does it not include Dolyaks or Siegerazor?

“Mercenary’s Bane”

Does this only apply to Enemy Hyleks, Ogres, Quaggan, Dredge (is that all of the potential friendlies? I might have left one out) Does it apply to Krait? Is Siegerazor and his Dolyak a Guard/Mercenary/Neither?

“Siege Bunker” and “Siege Might”

Does this include ALL siege weapons? Golem, Arrow Cart, Ballista, Catapult, Flame Ram, Trebuchet and their superior counterparts? Does it include Defensive siege such as Burning oil, Cannon and Mortar? If it applies to ALL siege why have a different ability for Cannon and Ballista? WHAT DOES SIEGE REALLY MEAN ANET???

“Supply Capacity”

At max ability, does this mean that if I have 0 supply and I take some from a camp with 100 supply, I get an extra 5 supply “for free”, leaving the camp with 90? Or does this mean that if I have 0 supply and I take some from a camp with 100 supply the camp now has 85 supply? If the Camp is claimed for +5 supply already, do I get 20 supply? Will starting a breakout event with Siegerazor give me 15 supply?

“Cannon Mastery”

This one is pretty straight forward, because you have nice descriptions on the different levels of the ability when you mouse over them. My question is No Mortar or Oil boosts? Why were these left off? And, relating to my Siege Bunker and Siege Might question, Does Cannon Mastery work in conjunction with those two abilities???

“Ballista Mastery”

Same question as Cannon Mastery. This ability by itself is straightforward, but does it work in conjunction with Siege Bunker and Siege Might??? Why not “Arrow Cart Mastery”? Why was Cannon and Ballista singled out for their own abilities?

Like I said, some of these questions are kind of dumb, but I think that A LOT of them aren’t dumb at all and NEED to be clarified by a Dev. I can almost already see them overhauling this system to address some of the things that I brought up. At the very least Anet needs to clarify some of these things in the descriptions. Feel free to post your opinions and guesses and get the discussion rolling. But my main goal of writing this is to get Anet to respond with real clarification. Just some simple feedback to Anet; not looking to trollbait or debate folks who reply here. And FWIW, I’m a “fanboy” and think GW2 has been truly one of the best MMOs since the genre began. I’ve been playing them for that long and have played or beta-tested most of them. And I have 5 level 80 chars here in GW2 with three of them fully-tricked out in exotics or better. And I have participated heavily in all end game content, especially WvW. (Well, I never bothered with SPvP; not my thing.)

GW2 had the potential to keep me, my spouse, my longtime casual “family and friends” guild of 9 years, and my longer-time -very large and successful- hardcore PvP guild of 13 years still actively playing even now, past the 5-6 month mark where most of us have finally hit the saturation point. Even in the face of all the new 2013 MMOs that are about to come out (I’m beta testing no less than 3 different ones this weekend.)

But your endgame content frankly fails on three very simple accounts:

1. Your dungeon content has no “middle ground” difficulty level for less skilled players. Some of you will flame this post and say that the dungeon content is “too easy” even now, but I’ve got 20 people from my longtime casual guild who will beg to differ. A guild that did fine even on the middle tier of The Secret World (“elite” difficulty) and in other games struggled -greatly- with the overall difficulty of all GW2 dungeon content. Fractals were a bit better (easier) in the lower sub-10 difficulty levels, but the time investment to finish all three + jade maw to get any substantial reward is too heavy to accomodate the realities of gameplay windows for casual gamers. I’ll say it plainly and frankly: I know he means well, but Robert Hrouda should not be influencing or guiding your dungeon design in any way, because he does not understand the needs or capability of the typical “casual” gamer. Every one of my 20-member casual guild universally hates the standard dungeon design here: the stupid, senseless way they’re made difficult (and too much so), and the terrible “all or nothing” reward design. I’ve never heard good things from my large PvP guild either. Not -one- compliment for the dungeon design here out of the nearly 500 people I know who have played this game. Robert: Are you listening? Do better next time.

2. Money is too tight and the economy is too expensive. I’ve invested more than 1000 total hours in the game and have 5 level 80 characters. I’ve -never- had more than 20 gold in reserve at any one time. I have no hope whatsoever of ever attaining a legendary weapon for any one character. The costs are just way too far out of reach. Outfitting a single character in full exo gear is just stupid expensive and I’ve always resorted to grinding slowly for yellows, breaking them down with BL Salvage kits for ectos, and regularly scouring Orr and FG for ori and ancient wood. It’s slow and time consuming. Ultimately, it has made it -impossible- for me to experiment with different builds and gearing combinations. I’ve had to make a decision every time: will this character be focused on WvW or on dungeons? I couldn’t try the same class in both environments because I couldn’t acquire the two sets of gear necessary to do so.

3. Your “guild challenge” content completely excludes small casual guilds from the process. The unlock costs are incredibly and urealistically high for a smaller casual guild. After 6 months of spending our influence on very little (overall), we couldn’t even afford the very first unlock when you rolled that content out. That was the final nail in the coffin for my small guild. We didn’t enjoy your dungeon content as a group activity, and we were holding on only to see if the “guild challenge” content would keep us engaged. Nope: you left us out in the cold.

Anyway, I’m trying to keep this feedback relatively short. At this point you’ve lost my entire casual guild and my hardcore PvP guild. There are a few of us who still log in a few times a week to mess around and check whether the Daily that day will be fast and easy, but that’s about it. Most of us are already looking for the next game. I suppose you could say “hey, keeping you around for 5-6 months is pretty good for an MMO these days”. And that would be totally true. GW2 is a really strong game. The real point of this post is that if your end-game design were more casual-friendly in the three aspects listed above, you would have kept us engaged for much longer than that.

  • Run past everyone and never activate a single combat skill. Try again when killed. Post whine thread when that still fails.
  • Spam EB asking if there’s a mesmer in the jump puzzle while your team is holding attacks on seven fronts. Post their second whine thread in three hours when they get killed in the puzzle.

Considering I only play WvW, yes.

I assume the way to obtain racial armors will be to kill a dragon somewhere 85 times or run 112 fractals or otherwise stop playing the game the way I normally play it. This has been the case for pretty much everything so far.

So Why Jade Quarry?

  • As you can tell we hold many oceanic guilds but we still have roughly 1-2 maps that can easily fill an organized guild forces up to 60~. With that being said, you will experience no que times during your primetime during the start of SEA coverage.
  • Recent transfers VAL,EDMW,NOBL,Yaki (Sea/Oceanic) have loved the adjustment so far with all the dynamic guilds
  • Weekly meetings
  • Serverwide community operated teamspeak (600+) that houses every major WvW guild
  • Reliability and community support!

How is our SEA base guilds?

  • Generally we have Val/NOBL working on the same bordermap right after NA nightcrew while EDMW works EBG. We only have 2-3 prominent guilds that start to primetime before our later oceanics (FOO/DC/EXI/OMEN) start to log. We do quite well on 2/4 maps during SEA prime but are in dire need of guilds to fill up the last 2 maps.
  • The transition from SEA to Oceanic nightly is very well coordinated across all major commanders and there is always 1-2 maps open que for 50+ players.

The history of Jade Quarry’s guilds

  • 3 founding powerhouse NA guilds still reside! (AoS/Fire/EMP)
  • The FOO sea/oceanic alliance loyalty to JQ
  • All new merging guilds (SF/PRX/Yaki/CRNG/Val/EDMW/NOBL) have loved everything JQ has to offer and are still apart of our community!

How can AFS help?

  • As you said your guild specializes in field tactics and number routing, your enemies from SoR/BG are known to jump between maps to pull numbers for point leverage. A guild of that size (20-50),like yourselves, that can specifically target map hopping guilds can do quite a detrimental effect to opposing enemies. Not to mention the mobility in squeezing numbers between all border maps as ques are lowest during that time out of any given day.
  • As you can see from the PPT Tracker off millenium, Jade quarry drops considerably druing the Start of SEA prime. By having a guild of your size, AFS will have a major effect no matter what your guild chooses to do on the field. Also, EBG is the only map with a que during the start of SEA primetime!

- people go to LA because there’s people there. It’s a closed circle. If I want to advertise a guild where would I find the most people? LA of course! I could go to Rata Sum, but then less people would hear me.
- It’s the only not starter zone city. If I want to run TA and I can’t find enough people on the map, where am I likely to find people of the appropriate level that would be interested in it? In The Grove or in LA?
And then my fixes are far from perfect – if we move the dungeon vendors outside their dungeons, you’ll need to go to all of those places to preview their dungeon gear. Adding more than one Fractals portal makes no sense. Having more than one WvW portal place makes no sense, because then you’ll have to crowd WvW with all those portals to all those other cities as well.
While cities in Guild Wars 2 are nicely done, I doubt that any change made could make LA not the most popular one.

I’m not convinced anything about it is “unsolvable” – the soon-to-arrive LFG tool and e.g. a word-wide general chat would solve both issues you list. There’s probably some technical hurdles to overcome, but I can’t believe ANet is satisfied with the current ghost-town status of cities other than LA, and I (and evidently plenty of others) hope they can solve this.

there are a lot of reasons why other cities are not as popular. Not all of them can be solved.
Solvable reasons:
- add a mystic forge to all of the cities
- move the dungeon vendors outside their appropriate dungeons.
- add portals to WvW in every city
- add portals to Fractals in every city

We got these awesome cities, mostly abandoned because, well, all the action is in LA and it’s free to get there with just a five second detour through the Mists.

Why not have the option to select one of the cities as our home and have a free teleport there, if only so the obviously massive amount of work you guys put into all the cities isn’t completely wasted, as it is right now ? Alternatively, just add portals to all the cities to the central Mists hub ? Include Ebonhawke, for good measure, I love to start my morning dailies in a city full of yawning (NB. why does everybody in Ebonhawke sound like they’re either bored or very, very sleepy?)

Having free portals available in LA evidently isn’t enough to get more people to use the TP, bank etc. in the other cities, and I think it’s a real shame, if only because it robs me of more opportunities to fall to my death in Rata Sum – the little fella is clumsy like that.

I really do not know what direction this game is heading now. Devs departed from Manifesto so much that the whole game looks a big mass.

GW2 is not skill-based at all, there is no cosmetic rewards (but we got time gated contents and new tier gears). Class balance is not looked upon by devs. There are only a few valid builds (2-3 per class). Ehh so many points I could list here…

I have been waiting for this patch (and previous too) to see some good changes… Only by reading the upcoming patch “notes” I can tell I wont play too much.

WvW has so much potential but A.net fails to take advantage of it. Instead, they waste their time on useless “contents”. Whoever is developing the game is not the same team developing prior launch. Or they received new directives from “above”. Dunno
