Plenty of tears in this thread.
Seems like a good system to me.
Why should an alt character who has never stepped foot in WvW have the ultimate title and the upgrades of something another character accomplished? Why should this set of achievements / unlocks be character bound when others arent ?
There’s really no logical rationale behind this and it only goes to isolate and dived the WvW community and Professions Utilized in it.
Ever wonder why you see far less engines / rangers / warriors in WvW ?
Cause everything they can do others can do infinity better.I don’t wonder that because all classes can use siege the same.
Right, well you got me. I forgot WvW is all about PvDoor and Siege. /sarcasm.
Lets test this theory… which one on a Siege weapon last longer through damage….
A) Guardian
B) Engineer
…. yeah right everything B can do, A can do better.
Dear Arena Net,
I would like to discuss your upcoming update regarding WvW Titles/Rank/Skills and how it affects players with multiple characters. Below is your quote:
“The goal for this system is to ensure that players always have something to constantly work towards. We want each character to have a unique experience in WvW, so World Ranks and WXP are all character-based values rather than account-based. We believe that in the long run, this will actually help incentivize players to experiment with various different ability builds for each character. It also creates a long term goal for players of multiple characters, as they can strive to rank up multiple characters to help show off their dedication to WvW.
One of the goals our team set for ourselves with the WvW progression system was to ensure that it could be expanded in the future. In fact, we’re already working on additional abilities that we plan to release in the future, and we’ll increase the amount and variety of abilities available for purchase in future updates. We do hope you enjoy the abilities we are initially releasing with this system, and we appreciate any feedback players have so we can improve on the system in the future.
We’ll see you on the battlefield!”
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/world-vs-world-introducing-world-ranks-and-more/
The reason I want to discuss this is that I believe that there is some disconnect between the development team and the players of WvW. Arena Net, you have stated that you want to create an incentive for players to develop different ability builds for each character, but I have some questions/opinions for you.
-Profession Redesign/Balance/Testing
If you want to incentivize people to create a variety of builds, there has to be skills/talents available to create these unique builds. The problem is that in order to create this you have to have an incredible amount of redesigning/balancing/testing so that people can achieve this. For example in WvW the Engineer biggest strength is 1v1 or 1v2 and taking over supply camps, but really struggles to do comparable support in large group with the current selection of skills/traits. This is the #1 reason why players create alternative characters. If you want to play a large condition damage character, the Glamour Mesmer does an incredibly good job at it compared to the P-P/Grenade Engineer with much less work. What support tank can you create with an Engineer? There is only self-tank. The Guardian can out-tank & out-heal an Elixir/Healing Engineer in WvW, so there again that’s why these alternate characters are created. Arena Net you’re working hard enough, why make more work for yourselves?
-Incentives for One Character
Arena Net you like to use the word “incentives” a lot so let’s discuss. You want to incentives people to play the same character so you implement this upcoming update. What could be bad about this right? The problem is that there are already so many incentives out there to play just one character. Take into account that dailies are account bound so only one character can receive the daily once and if you have multiple characters there is nothing you can do about it even if you’re willing to put the extra effort in. Take into account that karma is also character bound and if there is future upgrades purchasable through karma that this will drive people to play with one character. Now we are going to have WvW Ranks/Titles character bound.
Davidah (Guardian) Goloith (Engineer)
Achuni (Mesmer) Doreanora (Thief)
We’re getting a WvW patch. I thought it would take at least a year, or even waiting for the next expansion to get anything new for WvW. I’ll not be complaining lest they take it back.
It’s your right to tell them what you think. You did pay for the game, you do contribute to their income even if you don’t purchase gems, by selling and buying on the market. You add content to the game by playing; You’re the content for other players, and the other way around. No player is dead weight, your opinion of no lesser value than that of anyone else. Speak up!
I’d like to thank the moderators for not deleting the thread, it’s a surprise to me given history. Perhaps one of the moderators, or a developer, can step into this thread to also clear up any potential mistakes I made by verifying what exactly we’re getting for WvW this patch? Right now it’s speculation, well founded speculation at that, but a complete confirmation would be better, and probably should have been given months ago before the hype train took off.

As expected an expansions worth of content… Just think of what this MMO could have been.

Do you people even know what an upgrade costs? The absolute cheapest upgrades are 10 silver. The higher ones are 1-2 GOLD each. You don’t make that up from the random blues and occasional green drops.
So sure, it may be roughly break even to positive for leaches, but for the responsible player, no, it’s a gold drain.
You make a profit in WvW because you don’t buy upgrades or siege equipement. You can not make a profit if you do, and even if you don’t, the level 20 blues you loot from underleveled enemies, and the level 80 grey items, really don’t do much more than cover your repair bill.
You can use badges of honor to buy rams, treb, catas etcetc ... and for the repair cost: try to die less...
I rarely die, but I do deploy more siege and purchase more upgrades than PvE Farmer Bob over there.
Thanks for the attempt to insult my player skill however. Can’t win an argument? Resort to insults instead! Top quality posting.
Your attempt to derail my thread into a low quality flame contest ends here however.

Then the feedback would be, announce changes further than 4 days in advance so feedback can actually mean something.
I won’t disagree with the fact culling is a big deal, I did clearly mention this in my post. But I am in my right to be critical towards ArenaNet for how they handled this update, and WvW in general.

4 days before the patch is released any feedback is useless.
Btw, the fix to culling itself would be enough to make this the greatest WvW patch ever.
(Removed – discussion of possible moderation is not allowed. Carry on! ~ Dalmarus)
A few months ago, the first words got out that WvW will be getting a much needed update. An update it badly needed as WvW suffers from a bunch of problems, which affect the (fun) core WvW gameplay. This update got hyped up a fair bit, and also got delayed.
But delays happen, and for such an important update to the game, no one has the right to complain about a delay. Today, we finally know the details of this much hyped WvW update.
- Still no Ascended gear from WvW, forcing WvW players to PvE in order to stay statisticly competitive.
- Still no solution to the huge gold drain in WvW, forcing WvW players to PvE in order to even pay their repair bill, not even thinking about paying for all the other WvW costs.
- Still no additions to the content itself or even the re-addition of Orbs. The core game is fun, but having additions every once in a while wouldn’t hurt.
- But we get a carrot on the stick leveling system for PvE players, something a dedicated WvW player doesn’t care about since he or she plays WvW with or without a carrot to ‘progress’ after.
And this took them all this time, while hyping “the big WvW update”? It seems the only redeeming part of this update, and the only change WvW players will care about, is the fix for the dreaded culling issue.
I’m sorry ArenaNet, but after so many months, you finally come with what was the most anticipated update to the game since launch, only to monumentally let down the expectations of many players.
I hope there is more to this patch than the preview suggests, I hope I am wrong on all the points I mentioned. But given the recent patch history, all I can say is: Surprise me, ArenaNet.
Regards,
Raap

Since we started this thread, the things that have happened.
1. We have gained over 50 transfers in the minor coverage gap between pst and our oceanic time zone. People who play between 10am pst and 2am pst.
2. A fair few w3 craved individuals have xfered servers to Join our top guilds.
3. One of our regular pug commanders has changed his play time to late SEA/euro times to help the server by gathering the pugs and coordinating them.
4. Two of our sea w3 guilds have grown exponentially. One has increased 16 members in two days and about to merge another guild into them.
Check out DPS and HERO
As you can see from these points, FA has committed individuals, have a dedicated w3 community and are here to stay in t2 and be a thorn in any super servers side for regaining a t1 spot. Who knows we may even get a look at t1 when the next server crashes and burns.

Why are you even on the forums?
Because we have a right to be here.
There’s a shader in the graphic settings that removes a lot of the highlights and glows into duller looks. I prefer dull shades over hard high lighting so I changed this long ago and it solved my issue with this.
I’m too. But Shader option reflects not on character only – higher shaders changes lots of textures and effects in the world.
Those are prestige armors, it’s natural they’re expensive.
Culture Armor should be Easy to obtain. There should be more sets of it.
Culture Armor should Not be end game content. It pisses my off that I have to grind to make my characters armor look like it’s from their own race.
Add Collections for town clothes as it is made for materials and miniatures
Many people like to collect clothes. However, when new items of clothing in the store, we have to think about a place to store it. Sometimes it stops me from buying new clothes.
Adding a special collection can solve the problem.
or
You can do so, as this was done in the original Guild Wars
Add special NPC for the Festival of hats and clothing
It is a topic many seems to think is a bad idea, mounts.
- I have been going about this issue before, why I would like to see mounts and why not, but today I stand before you with a different perspective on this.
You may already have noticed that there are tanks made by the charr in game already, also the Asura have their golems. Now, golems are already implemented as a skill where an Asuran character can summon this vehicle for 60 seconds and combat enemies.
- I had an Asuran Warrior where I used this skill quite often, because it was a nice touch to the Asura to actually use their technology.
I would like to see Charr’s tanks and the Asuran golems taken in use maybe only in Orr, because there is often very crowded with enemies, and sometimes you just need that extra firepower to cut through.
- I think it would be nice to be able to use the ones already in game as “Vehicle’s” which already has been implemented before, like cannons that players could occupy and use to fight enemies.
- Also, just to add some immersion into the game, the ships in Dawnside Quay should sail to and from Lion’s Arch and maybe Fort Trinity (it kills my immersion into the game to have to pick a spot on the map, where I want to spawn, so yes, it does add to immersion).
That’s all for now, and you are all welcome, of course, to give some feedback on this.
It looks visually a lot like a combo blast finisher. Could this be added?
Tyria, Underworld
…I really fail to see the logic behind the “no” answers.
But I guess everyone has their opinions on the matter.
I have to admit, I’m not a fan of seeing people running around in a costume while adventuring. And the more silly the costumes get, the less I’ll like it. I just have this idea that heroes should like heroes and not clowns.
My apologies to any clowns reading this that are also heroes.
Anyway, if a change like this were to happen, I would appreciate having an option on my client to disable costume visuals from my perspective. I don’t care if you look like a clown, so long as I can’t see it.
I have nothing against clowns.
That’s like saying that I don’t like seeing females all bundled up, or all skimpy, so the the world should revolve around my preferences and stop anyone from offending my sensibilities or provide me with an option to see the world how I want.
Sorry you don’t like the idea, but, your preference of how you want to see other players should not supersede their right to appear how they want while playing.
Here’s a few improvements that I thought of for the hero panel, and starting screen:
- Mini-Pet Slot - This would be an equipment slot similar to armor/weapons that would prevent mini-pets from being deposited accidentally. In addition, the mini-pet would be automatically “used” whenever changing instances, saving much hassle.
- Display Back-pieces - In both the hero panel, and the starting screen, back-pieces aren’t shown. It would be nice if back-pieces showed up in these two places. Weapons showing up on the starting screen would be nice too.
- Show Magic Find Stat - It would be great if magic find, like every other stat, would show up in the hero panel. This would save the trouble of having to count one’s magic find.
Please post any other suggestions below!

If you have been playing Guildwars 2 since the first beta test like I have then you probably remember Creature Codex’s. Creature Codex was a feature that was implemented to give the player’s segments of lore pertaining to the topic of the Codex(In a cinematic). I’d love to see this feature returned to the game, It would be a great way to implement very interesting lore pertaining to boss’s it could also be used to generate some type of reward such as achievements.
If you have never heard of “CC’S” There is a small wiki entry on them.

P.S – Creature Codices were removed after the first beta weekend. =(

So I know there’s been a lot of debate on how to make Town Clothes more worthwhile as a feature, as well as a request from a fair amount from we the playerbase to allow for any class to wear any armor. I’m not sure if this type of idea has been posted before, and if it has, please smack me and disregard this post! But, I have an idea that I think people might like. :>
The big debate, as far as I can see, seems to be ‘Hey, but if you allow any class to wear any armor, there’s going to be a lot of unfairness in WvW/PvP and a lot of confusion in PvE’. There’s also the other end of the debate: Those who want more freedom in their outfits, particularly for roleplaying and social interaction.
I figured there’s a happy medium to be had here, though, via improving the Town Clothes tab through a couple of (imaginably minor) adjustments…
Suggestion #1: Maybe rename the town clothes tab to the ‘Appearance’ tab. Expand the number of slots for outfit pieces in the Town Clothes tab.
*Six total armor slots, as well as a Primary Hand and Off-Hand weapon slot.
*You can wear weapons outside of your class-type here as well, but they will obviously be inoperable as they would be purely cosmetic attachments to your character model.
*You could wear your aquatic weapons (Spears / Tridents / Spearguns etc.) in your weapon slot and it will show up on the model of your character in or out of water.
Suggestion #2: Add an in-game vendor with basic, ‘blank canvas’ town clothing items for each of the new slots in the Appearance Tab. A shirt and jeans and boots or what have you, and a wooden sword, a wooden shield, a wooden staff etc.
*These should be purchasable for a small amount of either gems or coin.
*You should be able to hold as many sets of these ‘blank canvas’ items as you want, for the next part of the suggestion:
*Allow the use of some type of transmutation stone (Fine, Basic, or some new type of stone) to transmute ANY type of armor class onto ANY type of character class. So for example, you can run around in town or into roleplay events or social areas as a Guardian in cloth armor, or a mesmer in plate, or a ranger in a unique combination of town clothes if you wanted! Obviously it would fade the instant you enter combat/an area of WvW or PvP/dungeons, etc.
I think this could be a good way to implement cross-class armor customization as well as add to the transmutation and town clothes systems. What do you think? Post your thoughts and additions below, please! :>
I was thinking that Griffons could be added to the tamable pet list.
I was thinking, Flying tanky pet type. Does any else have any thoughts? kinda like The Shark of the Sky.
As the title says – Since we have a tab for many collectibles as it is I would love to see one for clothes bought in the Gem Store or from holidays. sPvP shows that an armor collection is possible so they just need to add one more to PvE, where else can I put my old town clothes when I buy a new costume? Where can I put my brand new Riding gear? What about my Wintersday outfit or my Mad King ensemble? Where will these go? We all realise the importance of bank space, especially for players with many characters. I do not want to toss my GW2 Celebration hat because I am out of room, nor my lovely Devil Horns, I want to keep them but I just bought the Pirate set…
Players like to fill those spaces, when they look at their collections and see they have some costumes and some empty slots there is incentive to buy gems to fill those slots, there is incentive there to spend money. For any player that is a hoarder you can feel my pain when I have to destroy an item for space, even if it is a duplicate.
Sidenote:- any chance of fixing the arcane converter in sPvP to deposit into collectibles also?
ANet’s already stated they won’t get in the business of certifying third-party programs. They actually have a very common sense policy on the matter.
Just consider if they OK’d a current version of some third-party software and the very next day the dev for that software released something that broke the rules, obviously ANet isn’t going to dedicate countless hours to certify such things.
So, it’s up to you and common sense.
Does SweetFX give you an unfair, game breaking and/or cheating advantage?
Does having control over vibrancy and anti-aliasing make you over-powered?
Does having the aesthetic inclinations to tone down bloom glare in game mean you are an evil person worthy of scorn and perma-ban from Tyria?
You must ask your self these questions, and answer honestly.
Meanwhile, I have some further tweaking to do to my SweetFx config file.
Your post in general didn’t last long, so I decided to bump this
I have been asking for a better town clothes/skin system since BWE1.
I wish that anet would at least add more town clothes (like NPC clothes not the store’s modern stuff). They could let us craft them or buy them (ingame or gem store :/), but it seems the only town clothes we get are going to be only though the store., I have bought some of the outfits but I would prefer that they add non-store ways to get TC as well (I would buy NPC like clothes if they added them but I need storage first)
I have been collecting links to these kinds of suggestions (see sig), there are many different idea’s on how to improve the TC & skins, and while I would prefer something like LoTRo system (which is just a better version of the TC i.e. wearable in combat and any clothes can be put in and buy-able additional wardrobe (TC) slots), though the DCUo system has it’s perks .Really anything would be an improvement.
as an aside Organizing The Suggestions Forum
Thanks so much for helping bump this post. I posted it in the general forum (it didn’t last long before it was locked because of the double post) but it did receive a lot of positive feedback. Hopefully arenanet notices
At this point, any indication that they have any regard for the Rp community would be welcome.
I’ve played this game since BWE2 on Tarnished Coast. I am one of few who help hold the Guild Summits every few weeks for our server-wide guild summit event that even some devs have come out to. I am a roleplay guild GM and an active community member on our server. That said, I have a short list of suggestions for our dev team that may encourage your roleplayers to remain instead of splinter off into other games that we’ve either come from or new ones that are coming out.
List
- Actual town clothes. Similar to the ones the NPCs all over the map wear, not hoodies that aren’t even hoodies. That was a waste of your efforts.
- The ability to sit on furniture without hovering in the air, but actually sit in a chair or on a bench/couch without sitting like you should be at a picnic.
- AFK tags. Something as simple as typing /afk to alter the color of our player tags, changing it back to the standard coloring after typing /afk once more.
- Name changes -added- to the complete makeover package available through the BLTC.
- If you’re not going to provide player/guild housing despite what rumors or the wiki itself has said, at the very least, open more buildings within DR and consider doing -something- with the collapse. PvE/PvPrs idle in your cities, RPrs actually occupy your cities and bring them to life.
I’m sure there are others who have several fantastic ideas, but these are 5 important ones to me, and several others that I’ve had vent to me with regards to the enjoyment factor where they are concerned. In truth, I’m afraid we’ve already lost a good portion of our Tarnished Coast population to older MMOs like WoW, LOTRO, RIFT or Tera. If you don’t offer any reason to stay, those who play on your unofficial RP servers will leave and thus leave Tarnished Coast & Piken Square near empty if not entirely. So please, strongly consider making some additions on behalf of your roleplayers as we want to enjoy the game as well.
Thank you.

I would love to see a wardrobe system available in this game. Similar to how City of Heroes and DC Universe Online allow you to unlock a certain skin once its been acquired.
How I see it working:
Once you find a piece of gear, you keep the gear, but also unlock that particular skin in a wardrobe (type of library), that you can then enter and start re-skining anything you’re currently wearing with whatever you have unlocked. (Similar to the dyes library).
You could select from anything you’ve previously unlocked in order to come up with some very interesting new looks in a preview window. Then once you’re happy, you’re taken to a confirmation screen where it will add up all the transmutation stones required for re-skinning. So that way Arenanet can still charge us transmute stones.
I think this is especially handy for people who have spent many MANY hours grinding dungeons for a particular armor set. You can unlock the dungeon skin and reuse it at a later date if you want to take a break from that look for a while. I don’t want to have to run the dungeon 30 more times if I want to get that look back one day.
In summary:
- All acquired gear skins are saved in a ‘wardrobe’ type library
- Re-skin anything you’re currently wearing with whatever skins you’ve unlocked in your library (similar to the dyes)
- Preview an entire new look
- Proceed with purchase, where you will be charged the amount of transmutation stones required (with a link to buy more if you’re missing them)
Would love, love, LOVE to see something like this implemented some day!
Didn’t you hear? It would ruin the community!
