Point is, they don’t have a public test server. They’re testing changes with a closed group of few invited players from what we know.

Absolutely true. Even if they didn’t add new content to this PTR they could at least add the class changes and have 2 patches month, 1 for content and 1 for class changes so that they could easily balance it from the perspective of hundreds of players giving feedback instead of 10 most of which like the warrior the most. it’s obvious really it is

People say these changes are taking away builds, but I’m wondering if they haven’t done this on a test server and seen more builds emerge from it.

Surely people realize that Anet does have a test server.

Nerfs don’t always bring new builds – see elementalist nerfs. However, buffs to underpowered builds do bring new builds. And another problem with these nerfs is that they clearly affect most builds, not only those that they wanted to tone down – see again the elementalist nerfs for an example.

I don’t know what they’ve seen on their test server, but in the real world, their changes so far further increased ele bunkers, not the opposite, the latest patch will probably be the same.

The only reason to have more builds is if by some miracle we see a wall of text with buffs on the patch notes, that they “forgot” to mention at the SotG, which is unlikely, but never hurts to wish for it.

You guys are complaining about nerfs when they are buffing stuff as well. .

the main problem is that they are buffing what’s already facerolling (heavy and medium armor classes), and nerfing what is in dire need of a massive boost (light armor classes).
Of course I am talking about world pvp, pve is so easy any class can be successful: I can foresee armies of thieves and warriors in WvWvW collecting free badges from other classes….

If you want to see whack a mole check out the new confusion nerf – slashing 50% off the damage. Yes… 50%

If confusion is so overpowered that it needs it’s damage halved how come the entire metagame isn’t built around confusion, and we havn’t seen mass exodus from all the other classes flocking to mesmer and running pure confusion builds?

Even amongst mesmers confusion is typically treated as a secondary source of damage outside of WvW zerg-support builds.

Halving and doubling the damage dealt by skills goes wayyyy beyond what is reasonable, it displays no attempt to fine tune a skill they just wipe it out or make it flavour of the month. (And I bet we won’t see any buffs to mesmer’s damage output to compensate)

Anet suck at balance.

Sure, it’s not an easy thing to get right, with pve and pvp. But there are so many small things, things they should have known in advance that weren’t done. They don’t learn from any of their mistakes, even after making builds a ton simpler than they were in GW1.

From release there should have been a pve/pvp split for most skills. GW1 should have shown them this, what works in pvp does not work in pve, and vice versa. Only now, months after release are they starting to do this, after already doing quite a bit of damage trying to make skills work in both.

There are things like engineer turrets, which have been useless since beta. They are pets that don’t move, the obvious advantage that they should have is massive amounts of health. That would pretty much fix them. Such an easy thing, but it’s probably never going to happen, so engineers will be stuck with useless skills. It would also give the engineer back its originally intended role of an area denial class. Which highlights the problem of class roles, several classes don’t have them, or are playing second fiddle to another class which can do it better, or they have roles which are simply not required in pve/pvp situations.

If you want to know how this game will turn out, just look at GW1. Best you can hope for is that your profession doesn’t turn out to be the paragon of GW2.

As far as Eles are concerned we got two amazing joke lines from our favorite Dev team:

“Want to bring down cantrip Ele without affecting lesser used builds”
and the equally awesome:
“We want more viable Elementalist builds”

And yet each and every change affects lesser used builds more than bunkers, forcing everyone to use the “OP” build more. So they are nerfing lesser used builds AND make less and less builds viable, the complete opposite of their goal. Maybe they need to rethink the way they are going to achieve those two goals.

Hint: nerfing isn’t a way to do it

Hi everyone,

Even though we haven’t posted here, this thread has been already forwarded to the team with your concerns, so rest assured they are aware of all this.
In any case, we will ask them if they can drop a couple of lines here.

Thanks for your understanding.

I just hope the response wont be “We are continuously working on optimization…” or similar since we have been hearing that for over 10 months and besides severe workaround such as those implemented in WvW there have been zero performance improvements as far as CPU optimization is concerned. Not only does the game not scale well over multiple cores (hampering AMD cpus even more) but its also suffers from very bad polygon occlusion.
To see this in action open your settings to see your frames and go to any corner in any map that has a large simple structure opposed to that corner such as a hill or a big wall that covers your entire view. Look towards the hill (centre) then towards the corner.
Even though you ll see less actual polygons drawn towards the centre (facing the hill) your framerate will be much lower.
A perfect example of this currently is just after exiting the shortcut wurm in SAB or at the king frog area.

Yes MMOs are more CPU intensive when there are many characters running around casting spells but even so GW2s base engine is just terrible.

Also even though it has been widely requested we still have no option of tuning down particle effects that would help in performance and gameplay as with all the effects going off you often can not tell a mobs attacks or where they are facing. Fire and hit effects are particularly problematic in this regard.

“Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games.”

This engine is still buggy as hell in its hardware detection and usage.
I´m about to do a core hardware upgrade from AMD (PhenomII 965) to Intel(3570k), and if this crappy & buggy performance still persists this game will be dead to me.

Plain and simple.

@HawkMeister.

You might be dissapointed then. I’m running on i73770k, GTX680, SSD,16GB gaming ram. GW2’s performance (all settings on full specs) is still poor IMO because of its engine.

Lowering resolution helps too.

lol you’re suggesting to lower rez (from only 1080p) in 2013 o.O . I’m not playing on a Dell pc from bestbuy lol lowering rez should NEVER be an option.

Most people still don’t even have a high definition monitor with their PC’s, you do realize this? If your computer can’t handle the resolution, I would say it IS an option :P

No lol i can handle games like metro 2033 (without DoF) or TW2 (without ubersampling) maxed out, gw2 shouldn’t even be a question. The large majority of people using their pc’s to game are on 1080p screens.

metro 2033 is an old game. My laptop can handle it O_o. Can you handle high performance games that came out this year? Lara Croft? Crysis 3? Because Guild Wars 2 has highly improved graphics and is an MMO which in itself is very demanding. It also came out in 2012, not in 2010 (which is when metro came out). Then compare it to other MMOs that came out on the same year – how well can you run, for example, Terra?
edit: what game is TW2? I googled it, I don’t have it on my steam and have no idea what it is. I’m curious.

Are you serious? Metro 2033 is in the top three most demanding games out now, yes, 2013… Tomb Raider all maxed without stupid stressfx runs at 50fps+ (this is far from a demanding game lol this is a console port…), crysis 3 maxed (shaders/shadows on high instead of Ultra tho) ran at 43-60 fps. TW2 is The Witcher 2, best looking third person game available in 2013 even though is a 2010 game (looks a gen ahead of crappy tomb raider 2013). I’m playing with a gtx570@ core 920 and i5 2500k@4.3… i shouldn’t be playing gw2 at ~15fps on the lowest possible settings in wvw.

it must be one of those glitches I was talking about then. When PC is far beyond the requirements, but for some reason game runs slower than it would on a calculator. I don’t really think that such hardware miss-matches will be fixed though.

There’s no such things. It could happen when your drivers are outdated, that’s it. Mine aren’t and the reason why gw2 runs so poorly is because its almost 100% cpu dependent, which is extremely stupid and the reason why the game runs at same fps (in zergs) no matter what settings your game is at. This is what needs to be addressed and in 8 months we got absolutely nothing, nothing to the point of not even mentioning later this year optimization.

LOL @ “almost 100% cpu dependent.”

Apparently my GPU is running at 80% because I have Internet Explorer open in the background, then.

The game needs it badly but instead we get new ridiculously priced items (with juicy RNG) in gem store. Look at Skyrim for example, not only the game looks significantly better (modded of course) but in same amount of time they’ve achieved ~double frame rate. Time to optimize gw2, this is not a looker like Crysis 3 and should run waaay better than it is.

This is so not bait and switch. Monthly achievements have been tiered since day 1. Daily achievements used to be tiered too, but they took that out, probably to lower the number of achievement and experience points each person gets.

Every month, you have monthlies that have tiers just like other achievement title tracks. In fact, this month, is one of the easiest monthlies ever. Many people got them on like day 4 of the month.

I think probably, if you can’t find a 4th monthly to fit in with your playstyle, you should either bite the bullet and do it (understanding it’s tiered) or just skip it.

Again, some people LIKE the extra experience and achievement points they get from tiering. In fact, when they took tiering away from the daily, there were complaint threads on the forums.

As “tragic” as the Boston thing was/is, I’m not so sure it needs as much publicity as it’s been given. Terrorism is a fire of which is fed by the fears of people, and fueled by the media over coverage. To point, only 3 people [sadly] died, yet people are trying to get these charity things up in the $100,000’s to millions. For what purpose is the excess money?

You know what’s a worse off event? How about the fertilizer plant explosion in Texas that already as 20+ dead and more unaccounted for (60ish?). That is a far more tragic event that could use donated charity money much more than the Boston thing. There’s also the Earthquake that hit China and over 180+ dead. Tragic, horrible, and needs far more help as more people are effected by that than the Boston thing.

I completely agree, You know how many of your fellow Americans die on an annual basis in the war on terrorism? Or how many hungry / homeless american families living in shelters, foster homes, or on the streets? Or anywhere for that matter. And the kids in foster homes being abused or growing up around ex convicts or drugs. This Boston thing, sad yes, but its not the first time something like this happened, there is a lot more going on in the world that’s far worse that’s been going on a lot longer too.

Strange, didn’t know they removed the blogs. Maybe to prevent people from digging up old ‘promises’ they made in some of them (such as account-wide dyes).

And here I thought I was the only person to notice those things. They’ve been very very quiet and when they insulted the population after 5 months of us trying to tell them there was something wrong with the drops in this game, they suddenly removed those threads too, very quietly I think they are going thru and removing all evidence of their 7 year manifesto.

I do remember that blog OP but alas it’s gone, I remember some videos that were posted on youtube tho, those may still be there, it was specifically about the sound design team going out and recording sounds to put them together for the environment of the game.
