I wonder if we will see another wave of bans.
I can see it now on Reddit:
EconoBuster: “Why was I banned?”
Anet: “What is your account name?”
EconoBuster: “GlitchenUmad.666”
Anet: “You were banned for exploiting the mystic forge to create rare mini pets to the detriment of the economy and mini market”
EconoBuster: “how was I supposed to know 4g for 100000g was an exploit? And I only did it once to check!”
Anet: “You used the mystic forge to create NINE THOUSAND minis”
EconoBuster: “My bad.”
I am really crossing my fingers for this to happen. Players have done it, had actions taken, and been given another chance twice now. Leechers in Dragonball and Forge exploiters. Just give them all a nice time out for the rest of the event.
Dragonbrand
I like them. At least the heavy and medium sets. That armor alone makes me want to start leveling up my engineer, and my Guardian would like some fancy new armor. She has been wearing HoTw gear forever now.
The medium would also look really good on my thief, but after the investment and time into getting a T3 set, I think she is going to be stuck with cultural.
Dragonbrand
The drop rate is .4% on the wiki drop rate.
you need 4000 chests to get a 100% chance to get one weapon with the common coffers.I have no clue what the drop rate of Rich Coffer, but if I had to guess from what others are saying it’s close to 1 out of a 100.

The advice I give people: At a minimum pick up Prophecies, Nightfall and Eye of the North.
Start with Prophecies. It will introduce you to the world, characters and classes a little better than the other expansions. Play through the Prophecies stories until you get to Lion’s Arch and then go to Elona (youll see a popup when you enter town to tell you who to talk to).
Start the Nightfall story. Play until you get yourself a few heroes and hit lvl 20, then go back to Prophecies.
Also, in Lion’s Arch you an get the “What Lies Beneath” quest. This takes you to Eye of the North. You can start that and play up until you get two more heroes.
With a full company of heroes, Prophecies will be a walk in the park and all your heroes will be leveled and geared up to go back to Nightfall, making the first 2/3 of that campaign easier as well.

A small chest spawns on the boat after you kill the shark. I think it stays for a few minutes and anyone can loot it (making it possible to open if swim by after the shark was killed) and then it disappears.
People miss this chest ALL the time. They kill the Shark then just swim off. Its like the big Harpy meta-event (sorry I forgot area) that ends with you killing a champ Harpy Matriarch in a cave. She also spawns a chest near the center of the room that everyone forgets about if she is pulled to the front or sides.
Dragonbrand
People have been screaming about this since Halloween when everyone tried to get festival weapons and realized at the same time… “That’s how its gonna be huh?”
I am talking dozens of posts with hundreds of responses, within hours of content release.
We still have random chests for every event and the drop rate for the things people want are still ridiculously low.
My friendly advice, just forget about them. Save your gems for practical items like bank tabs or storage spaces, infinite harvesting tools, maybe some repair canisters. Things that will be be handy to have and make your play time a little smoother.
It sucks some people with money to burn might end up with neat looking items, because they got lucky gambling, while others have no chance in hell of getting them. Especially when some of us have the cash and wouldn’t hesitate to buy these things outright if we could as opposed to playing roulette.
But that’s the way it is. And if the great Halloween mob of 2012 couldn’t change it, its not likely to change. Best to blow it off so you don’t get frustrated every event over crates instead of enjoying whatever activities there are.
Dragonbrand
A little more broad, but relevant…
Maybe people should expect a little less hand holding. It seems anytime there is something in the game that is done through story leads, contextual clues or environment items then a wave of people gets upset they didn’t get some kind of indicator or announcement shoved in their faces.
I like having to figure things out or take the intuitive path (like porting to the location of the person that just mentioned getting contracts off the island and needing help) without being explicitly told.
This is not much different than people spamming chat asking where the Karka queen spawns. If they were to look at their radar or their map and take one moment to make one intelligent guess…it would probably lead them to the giant kitten treasure chest and correct location.
Doesn’t matter how much context there is or how obvious the clues are. Some people would just rather be guided step by step. If they have to deduce anything for themselves then they are just totally lost.
And that’s ok. There are folks in the game that like helping those people out and will answer every question or offer to run people around. But the game shouldn’t make design concessions to those that want to be led because it ends up trivializing the content for those that want to play.
Dragonbrand
The living story stuff is fun, but I don’t really dig it as the permanent model. I would like more personal story, new permanent chapters and content that lead up and deal with the remaining dragons.
I mean…there are still other Elder dragons out there causing all sorts of ruckus. And Anet has mentioned living story being their go to content as opposed to traditional expansions. So what does that mean for the larger story or Tyria as a whole?
One of the things I enjoyed about GW was that each expansion meant the story for my characters was largely expanded. Prophecies characters had new continents to explore. Factions/Nightfall characters let you go back to the original campaign and play it new ways.
Tyria now just seems really closed off and confining. And it’ll be a shame if the living story way of things keeps it that way.
Dragonbrand
There was supposed to be a huge dungeon overhaul that began with AC. Hopefully CoF is next. That dungeon has been rampant with player abuse, exploits and elitist fragmentation since the game launched.
It took FoW and UW in GW five years to get to that point. And even then it wasn’t as difficult to find a non-speed clear, non-specialist group to complete those dungeons as it is for CoF after less than a year.
If it weren’t for the story mode side that people need to complete, I would be in favor of just locking the doors until a redesign is done.
Dragonbrand
Festival hats have made their return. This bodes well, maybe, for future events. Maybe we will eventually even get a Festival Hat Maker, again.
All the content looks fantastic. Whoopee!
We can only hope. The sole reason I do not buy costumes anymore is because they take up too much room in my bank. If there were a costume maker, I would probably own almost every outfit released thus far (sans Flame and Frost stuff, I missed all that unfortunately)
Dragonbrand
Colin winky face after a comment regarding beetles returning.
Elona confirmed.
Dragonbrand
There was a loooong post a while back with people speculating about mounts because of the frost and flame concept art. Gaile came in an with no uncertainty squashed the idea. There arent mounts, they arent considering mounts, there will never be mounts. Especially ponies (for those that remember the thread I am talking about).
I think these town clothes are just an amazing way of Anet giving us something neat…while screwing with A LOT of people.
Dragonbrand
This is it folks. The world is going to Skritt. Human beings have taken the first steps towards engineering Tyria’s most misunderstood, thieving, collectively intelligent, rodent race.
Next milestone: mini blue quadrupedal manatees.
Dragonbrand
Give it time. When the game launched everyone was screaming that AC was too hard for 35s and up. Bosses had too much health, everything did too much damage, there were too many bad guys.
Less than two months later pugs were doing explo path consistently in under 40 minutes.
This dungeon and future dungeon overhauls will be the same. They are too hard now but in a few months they will be too easy again.
Dragonbrand
I was personally thinking about making a new guild called “Multi-Server Guild Alliance” or something to use as the hub guild. But any other guild leaders that want to join this alliance can also add me in game or on here to talk about the details.
I figured I’d make it and put all guild leaders into the category “Alliance Leader” or something.
O.O That was exactly what I just posted in another thread I think you started that disappeared. I think its a great idea. Because it’s mine :p
Ill still be doing this with mine because it already has max upgrades, banks, influence and roster expansions. Others creating new guilds for alliances is a good idea also because you cant really have too many. ^.^
The only initial problem with that is the initial starting from scratch part. It may be more efficient to find someone with a dead guild and upgrades the will hub, or even just hand the guild over to you because they joined a bigger one and left theirs unmaintained. Then at least you are starting with something.
Dragonbrand
I am going to use my guild as a hub guild for an alliance. It is nearly fully upgraded and sitting on a nice chunk of influence and 25 man mumble server. This is the way I perceive it working…
- Leaders of participating guilds will have a Captain rank to invite all of their active members and set their ranks to the name of their guild.
- No one is expected to represent regularly. The roster is mainly a white pages for active alliance members. Possibly a chat channel.
- For alliance events, such as map clears, dragons, event chains or world events everyone represents the hub guild so we can all recognize each other on the map (blue tags).
- Once a week a guild group from each alliance guild should do a dungeon run of some sort while representing the hub guild. This will allow us to do Guild challenges as an alliance, so all members of the alliance get guild rewards as well as participation rewards for helping eachother with their own personal guild challenge missions.
- the hub guild message will be a notice of dates, times, and servers that each alliance guild has planned so we know where/when to guest.
The point of this is that rather than having every member of every guild join every other guild, or having multiple representatives trying to organize and communicate, we will have one center point of communication and organization in game that will let you see which alliance leaders, members and officers are online and available at a glance as well as letting us do large scale content cohesively.
Hopefully I can get 2-4 small/medium sized guilds to get on board to give this a shot. I think the concept has a ton of potential.
Dragonbrand
(edited by AcidicVision.5498)
oh nuts. Seems to be turning it into a recruitment thread instead of logistics of alliance and hypothetical execution thread. Might have a lock or move incoming…
Dragonbrand
You are limited to 3 servers a day actually. So on one day the whole alliance that wants to work together could go to one guilds server; on another it could move to another server. So long as we’re all on the same continent.
ooh. That may not be so bad then. For some reason I was thinking there was a seven day cool down on guest server changes.
Dragonbrand
So the hub guild would only really work to communicate between the guilds(You see people online, not repping the hub guild, you know who’s available).
Thats the idea.
It would also be used for alliance events. Like map clears, dragons, assisting publicly in other guilds challenges and the like. So everyone can see everyone in the alliance in one area.
As far as repping goes, if each guild in the alliance only reps the hub for one dungeon run in the course of a week, then there is enough influence for a guild challenge. If the hub starts a guild challenge then that means everyone in the alliance has access to loot, possible precursors, and commendations. Instead of just the informal rewards for assisting as a non-guild member (which people will also get since each guild will be doing its own specific challenges).
Besides that, it would pretty much just be a white-pages of possible party members or help, and a communal bank.
The only issue is you are limited to three servers because of guesting. This is not an issue for dungeons, but would affect map clears, helping with story missions and guild challenges. My guild is on Dragonbrand. If a guild from another server were to ally, our member would need to set their guest servers appropriately.
Dragonbrand
My concern is the alliances. I’d even be willing to create a random BS guild in order to serve as the hub. But as my first post stated, I’m not only listing this idea for guild missions; but rather for co-operation between multiple guilds for anything they may want to do.
Well this is what I was getting at earlier with the merging and alliances. Possible poor choice or words.
I have a guild that was full of WoW players that have since gone inactive. It has the first two guild bank upgrades, level IV and V upgrades, is sitting on 40k influence and some prepared banners. I also have an upgradable 25 man mumble server.
Since rebuilding from scratch is like ice-skating uphill, and it would be a shame to just toss out all thats gone into it…I would like to restructure my guild and ranks to serve as a hub for a small guild alliance .
The problem is that every time I get guild leaders to seriously talk about it, instead of understanding the concept of multiple guilds with a hub, they just want everyone to disband and form one large guild. And every leader has their reasons for why their guild is better.
If there are leaders of some small/medium guilds here that understand and support the concept and seriously want to form a cross server PvE alliance, PM me and we will get things going.
Dragonbrand
While I’m not open to merging my guild into another guild. I am willing to accept others into mine(so long as they meet requirements).
And that is why the idea will never work. Everyone likes the idea of merging guilds to make a cohesive unit and alliance, but only if everyone is coming to theirs.
For an alliance to function you need a hub where everyone can see who is online representing which guild. For example, guilds A, B, C, D and E want to be an alliance. Since there is no mechanism to support an alliance, everyone joins guild C which becomes the alliance “roster” and chat channel. This makes infinitely more sense than everyone in every guild joining every other guild.
Most of the time people represent their own guild. For WvW or alliance activities they would represent guild C so everyone can benefit and have access to the benefits.
Why it will never work: everyone wants to be guild C or not involved at all. As Loosifah has demonstrated.
Dragonbrand
I have a smaller guild n kittenittenrying to find other small guilds to merge with. Sort of the same idea as an alliance I guess. Smaller groups of 10-50 friends that still have their own personal guilds for their space and my guild as a hub for activities. Personally i’d like to keep the entire thing around 100 members just to its more personal.
edit…I have no idea why the kitten filter is censoring that.

Well, 40 laurels by just playing the game, and 50 ectos from TP or salvaging rares you get by playing the game.
The only grind I see is the one you put on yourself. You can get your ecto from pent/shelt runs and Plinx over and over again. Ill get mine from fractals, the rehauled AC, and another dungeon or two.
Your way is grind. My way is fun and lends progress to multiple goals. Perception vs. reality is a kitten.
Dragonbrand
Are getting a few golds worth getting that reputation? Even with guesting, there are only so many times you could do this before the guilds that regularly kick off events start catching your account name joining/quitting.
People can get to be pretty recognizable in GW. More so than other MMOs i’ve played. You could find people randomly kicking you from groups, not inviting you to guilds or booting you from dungeons before too long.
Dragonbrand
Sellswords is a small sized guild, of mature players (18-30), that wants to maintain a “quality over quantity” member base. We would like to stay around 75-100 members so everyone really gets to get to know and play with one another. This will allow us to be more effective than the mega guilds that are a sea of strangers or form internal cliques.
We have a mumble server, Tier IV and V upgrades, active core group and specialize focus on PvE content (map clears, dungeons, fractals, and soon guild events).
PM me here or in game for an invite or with questions. Open to merging with small guilds that didn’t quite get going and couple friendly.
Dragonbrand
Look up “gw2zoomunlocker”.
With caution. Argos-soft is reputable. So there isn’t a huge concern with malware or loggers, but there is some debate as to whether or not the zoom unlocker could get you banned.
Most people would use it innocently enough, but it could be used to give an advantage in WvW or sPvP, which are major factors as to why we have the camera extents that we do now. And that can be seen as “giving a player an advantage or helping them play better”, which are the only guidelines we have for what 3rd party tools are safe or not.
Anet hasn’t given us a clear answer on whether or not the unlocker specifically is ok.
Dragonbrand
While it’s good to hear you’re doing something…you’re still TALKING about solutions? 6 months this system has been broken, seriously week 1 there were plenty of threads about how condition builds get screwed due to caps. You should be well passed talking about solutions and testing them. And please! For the love of all that’s holy get a PTS server going so we can test this and any other class changes faster as well as make sure your logic isn’t flawed like the current condition system.
Yo…dude. Calm down. Six months is nothing in software development and they have had all sorts of other fixes that probably took higher priority. Like exploits, progress blockers, dealing with bots, hacks, stability issues, trying to solve culling, balance tweaks for sPvP…and the list goes on and on with issues that effect everyone, including, but not just, the subset that wants to run conditions.
The studio doesn’t have infinite resources. They don’t work 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. Releases have plans and a schedule and are usually a mix of what can be done what has to be done and what they want done.
If you don’t understand software development cycles or how the design process and implementation works then you should probably be a little less judgmental.

I think anything over 100% is pointless. I myself will probably end up with around 60% from utility infusions in rings and an amulet. If you are fully geared in exotic and ascended stuff, those 15pts from infusions don’t even amount to a drop in the bucket for your stats anyways.
As far as I can tell it does make a subtle difference. Even just using high MF food I notice fewer whites and a few more greens in my bags at the end of a dungeon. Although, the only exotics I have ever had drop for me from mobs, were dropped when I had 0 MF. True story.
Dragonbrand
There have been sales on the DD upgrade in the gem shop before I think. If you really want it, just be patient, i’m sure it will come around again. And the majority of these people are correct. For you to buy gems with gold, someone else had to have bought those with cash first.
@Danikat, The gems in the market during launch were there mostly from players of the three day head start. There probably were some gems placed in the market to “seed” it, so to speak. But for the first few days no one had the gold to buy gems if they wanted to.
Within an hour of head start launch, I bought four character slots, max bags on two of my characters and four storage panes. I had some left over gems and figured I might as well start with some change in my pocket, so I exchanged them for gold.
The guru forum had a thread along the lines of “what did you do when you first logged in”, and a surprising number did the exact same thing I did. That’s where your launch day gems came from.

CoF armor has been cliche for a looooong time now. I think the running stereotype is a Charr sigil warrior using a greatsword in full zerker CoF armor.
Dragonbrand
Nothing wrong with CnD. Like Brando said, AOE still hits, snares still hit, DoT still does dmg, conditions still endure. If we attack out of CnD then we have the 3 second revealed debuff and cant cloak again at all for three seconds, which is plenty of time to tie up a glass cannon thief with a single knockdown/cripple/root.
It also takes half of our initiative and that really limits burst. Especially if you need to have the init for another cloak.
The only problem with any stealth skill is the culling. And you can apply that to a host of skills of any class. I have been ganked plenty by 100b warriors, or completely locked down by guardians that I couldn’t see until I was long dead.
Leave thieves alone and just fix culling.
Dragonbrand
and hopefully their own theme (and I doubt Soule comes cheap).
Soule doesn’t work with Anet anymore. I like to think Anet cut those ties because of how their customers were treated when trying to buy the soundtrack through DirectSong (Soule’s company).
Anyway, Tengu are pretty much guaranteed. We already know where their capital is, what it is called and where the entrances are.
Bit of a shame. I personally really dislike the redesign. Would have much rather seen the Largos and what the art team could do with an underwater capital, or another original race. It would also give them a blank slate as far as lore, possible professions, skills and the like. The Tengu are already written. I can’t really imagine any huge surprises.
They will most definitely be paid expansion content and you’ll probably get 1 or 2 more character slots to go along with them.
Dragonbrand
Actually I deleted that post because of the kitten language all over the place I didn’t think about. Anyways, general idea is that when people start getting overly angry you should instruct them to watch Animal Cops to re-calibrate their rage-meter.
Or forward them to a youtube video of kittens riding ruumbas.
Dragonbrand
Guest on another server to find a place that will alleviate your Orr woes. This is what I had to do because, as great of a home server as it is in lots of regards, Dragonbrand is miserably awful for doing temples.
1/2 (yes I have counted) of the people that try to do the Priests, during peak EST hours, will lay on the ground dead and useless, hoping to leech the event and get ressed for the chest at the end, instead of respawning to run back. Mind you I don’t mean in an area away from the fight where one could reasonably expect a quick res. I mean dudes dropping dead at the feet of Grenth where no one will ever res you without an extremely high risk of getting themselves downed and remaining there for up to 5 minutes or until the event fails instead of spending one minute running back to assist.
The other servers I have tried out have this same issue, but it’s on a much smaller scale. A person here or there. But not nearly as common or as wide spread a behavior as it is on DB.
Dragonbrand
I don’t get what you guys want anymore….people complain that legendaries should be soulbound and now you complain that these shouldn’t be.
Account bound. Never soul bound. The only things that should be soul bound are story items or rewards for an achievement that are tailored for you character. Ultra rare RNG items should always be account bound so you can use it on any of your characters. Otherwise it’s three times as difficult for Engi’s to loot something useful, and twice as difficult for Thieves and Eles (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Weapons).
And Fractal weapons are account bound. That dude was just wrong.

Im not sure 34 is the max. I joined a lvl 38 group last night and my personal level was only 29 (a friend pm and invited me cause group needed a thief). My AR is only 25 and the only problem I had with Agony was from the Maw on his second or third phase cast.
Unless the agony jump from 38 to 40 is enormous, it doesnt seem so bad. It definitely shouldn’t be insurmountable for people at lvl 34 with 25-35 AR.
Dragonbrand
A few weeks ago I had a guy accidentally send me about 5 unidentified dyes and a few other identified. I returned to sender and told him he sent them to the wrong person and he sent them right back and said “It’s ok, enjoy.”
I think iv’e easily run in to more “good” players than “bad” players.
Dragonbrand
In general I am against the idea of soulbound weapons because some professions, namely Thief and Engineer, just get shafted. It’s already a small enough chance to get some exotic drops with unique skins, but then for those professions its an even smaller chance of actually being able to use it.
That said, @Dante, Fractal weapons are account bound. So if you get one you can’t use on one character, then you can swap it to another character. As most things should be.
I’m also not against the super rare drops. The method now seems to favor the lucky, but really everyone has the same chance. The method being proposed favors farmers and encourages relentless grind.
Ideally you would want acquisition to be skill based, but in reality that’s really hard to design around every time you add something new and once one person figures out the most effective method then the rest of the world can just look it up on the internet and duplicate. Where is the skill in imitation and what significance does that achievement hold now? Arguably, only the first few people to complete the challenge legitimately earned the reward.
The best solution, that encourages skilled play and personal progression that also shows some consideration towards players with careers and families and maintains the rarity and prestige of the item…is a random chest reward. The skill is getting to Fractal lvl 22+, the progression is the ascended gear required for that level, the consideration is that everyone at their respective level has the same opportunity.
A compromise would not involve a MF recipe, or buying with pristine relics or a huge amount of normal relics. Because those would encourage low fractal level farming/grinding. It is not a reward for anything other than having free time. The best compromise would be to increase the drop chance of the weapons for higher levels. You achieved a greater level of individual skill and progressed further than players of a lower level in the same reward tier (0-9, 10-20, 20-30 etcetera) and for recognition of that, you are more likely to loot a Fractal weapon or higher end reward than those players. Can we say for sure this isn’t how it works already?

During the week
- Fractals lvl30+ on my Thief
- Fractals lvl10+ on my Guardian
- Whatever is left of daily, some events, and maybe a temple in Orr
- Hop over to a dragon if one is spawning soon
- Some monthly progress
- Chat with guild for a bit and then log
During weekend
- All of the above
- Clear a map on my Mesmer
- Clear a map on my Necro
- Some WvW or sPvP for an hour or so
- Dungeons (Ac/Ta/HoTw/CoE/Se)
Still a ton of stuff to do and that I want to get. Starting to wish they would add another fractal or two into the rotation though.
Dragonbrand
@Ursan, yes. For now. When Ascended if fully rolled out then legendaries are going to get a stat inscrease to be a bump higher than Ascended. This has been the plan for them for forever now.
As of this moment they are vanity items. A year from (maybe longer?) now they will be best in slot items.
Dragonbrand
Ew. Of all the things it would be neat to see brought back, that is not one of them.
- Profession based armor
- Traveler hunt for daily gifts (whatever happened to the girl and her dog?)
- Daily bounty for specific monster/boss
- Unnnderrrrworld!!…and FoW.
- Hardmode dungeon variations for scaled rewards
- Meaningful titles
- return of classic skins
- community create-a-weapon contest
- community name a boss contest
-costume maker NPCs.
That’s my top 10. Ugh I hated those chests and trying to get the titles that came with them. Now you’ve messed up my whole day.
Dragonbrand
Congrats. So hey…since you have your legendary and all now, ’spose I can have your left over T6 mats for mine?
Dragonbrand
It really bothers me that there is no profession specific armor. The closest we get is that thing we choose at the beginning of the game, but unless saved to transmute, most players trash it by level 5.
The Mesmer and Necro armors in GW were iconic. You knew what you were looking at and the classes themselves had real personality. Now if you see a character in light armor you need to click on them to see what profession they are.
Don’t go clicking through the GW wiki armor galleries. Its not the kinda of nostalgia you are looking for. It will just make you sad.
Dragonbrand
It is the power curve that you climb in order to continue playing the game. This is what people object to, not an Ascended ring or an Ascended amulet. That would be a red herring if you are looking for your own logical fallacy.
Right. The problem there is that power curve does not exist and no climbing is required. People are objecting to something that is not only not present in the game now, but whether or not it ever will be is total conjecture.
The ascended gear that some players are using as evidence of this statement:
“It is the power curve that you climb in order to continue playing the game. "
Actually disproves that statement because it’s not required to continue playing the game. Exotics are still the baseline.
People seem to have forgotten how gear in games before GW worked. The “treadmill” model is to get tier 1 belt-buckle so people will group with you for runs to a loot tier 2 belt-buckle so you can pass gear checks into a raid for the tier 3 belt-buckle that you need to get into the next set of dungeons for the tier 4 belt-buckle.
What we have here is not that treadmill, its not the climb. What we have is a system with a standardized high tier, and a specialized tier that is slightly higher but in no way required (except for fractals lvl 30+, but tbh if your goal is to get there, then you have the gear from drops or means to get it with fractal tokens well before then). Once you have your exotic belt-buckle you dont need anything else to do anything else. But there is a nicer one there to get if you want to put in the time and effort.
Dragonbrand
colin, we still dont have a reason to kill champ mobs.
You have a reason to kill champs. Guaranteed loot on a smaller table with a better chance of getting something good. Champs are also usually part of their own DEs or the end of a chain, so you have the karma, coin and experience rewards.
If champs dropped a guaranteed green or higher then people would sit at their spawn points and farm them habitually en masse and it would be insanely easy to create hard to detect bots, since the behavior is simply sit-wait-tag mob, which is what three dozen other players will be doing.
To break it down another way, again, Champs have a higher chance to drop better loot than normal mobs. So you can spend five minutes doing Shelter and have 1% chance of getting a rare, regardless of the number of mobs. Your chance is still 1%, you will still be there for the event for five minutes. Where-as a champion may take three minutes to kill but offer a 5% chance at the rare.
The idea isn’t to make them farmable, event replacements for guaranteed income. Its to make them worth players rallying around as they pass by because there’s a chance of getting something just as good or better than the event you were on your way to. It’s a pit stop at a slot machine with better odds.
People are seeing the word “blue” and not contemplating the reasons for it or considering time vs. effort vs. probability compared to zerg or fetch events.
Dragonbrand
Dont think of them as gear boxes. If you are already geared up and theres nothing you want to save laurels for, then think of them more as ecto boxes.
Dragonbrand
Now its not a stretch of the imagination that thoughts with out these items who cant do things are blaming the fact that they do not have the items before they blame there own skill. It realty all an ego thing (blame every thing else on a fail before you blame your self).
Well if you look at Tigirius’s post history its ascended items, Legendary grind, engineer balance, profession bugs, DE design, and DR that are holding him back. And that was only page 1.
And he has a habit of confirmation bias. Like posting two vanilla rings with no upgrades against two of the ascended items that are lower capped for multiple stats. What he should have done is compared those particular ascended items to something like the Triforce pendant or Karka shell. But that wouldn’t have aided his point.

Yes ascended are supposed to be better. Like has been said multiple times, its gear between exotic and legendary that is supposed to take time to get, and is acquired while you make legendary progress (ie Dailies for Karma, Fractals for Cores and T6 mats all result in progress towards ascended). But as you can see from the practical example, the stat bump isn’t so insane that it makes exotics redundant.

No, it generally becomes easier the more characters you have since dailies are character specific. Meaning you can do the daily multiple times a day!
This is 100% false.
achievement progress is account bound.
The Fractal daily reward is once per character. I do lvl 26 on my Thief and lvl 10 on my Guardian every day and get the daily reward chest for each character.

I also find it strange that people say the bigger stats don’t make a difference. Why have them, then? I know I had a lot of encounters (in PvE and WvW) where I just barely won, so I’m certain increased stats will matter sometimes.
It’s not that they don’t make a difference, it’s that they make a negligible difference. For example, if you are running around doing high level events or a dungeon with a groups of pick-ups, you would not be able to pick out the guy that is using all exotics and one rare ring from the rest of the people in the group that have all exotics.
Unless you are doing high level fractals where agony matters and you can visually see who has the least, its impossible to tell the person who has a few ascended pieces of gear from the person in exotics because the difference is so slight.
Even the impact on WvW is diminutive because everyone already isn’t on the same playing field. Your zerg and the enemy zerg are a ball of mixed classes, levels 2-80, with masterwork through ascended gear and weapons, some people are missing traits, some players don’t even have their elites yet. Everyone is scaled to 80, but not every character has reached their full potential or is fully geared. So the few guys with an ascended ring aren’t a deciding factor in the outcome of the fight. It was never balanced to begin with.
Even if one could construct some sideways argument about how they never got ganked in WvW until ascended came around and now everyone else kills them…its moot because ascended is going to be available to get through WvW in the Feb or March updates.
