Sounds good. I will have to try and play it again and get good with it, seems strong when I see it in PvP. My warrior is great socks my Ele but I like my ebgi just benched it for awhile haha. Not sure how it would perform in pve either

Just a quickie guys as I was playing warrior and levelling it etc but currently have a lvl 80 engineer I haven’t played in ages.

How good are engineers right now in PvP and pve? Are we meta or just good? Is there anything major we lost or gained in the last 2 months? Just curious as I should prob start playing my engineer again. I just hated how squishy I was when I hit 80 I’n silverwastes and my ele and warr seems to be so much stronger

Just curious really how badly the meta effects all aspects of PvP or does it purely only effect the very top tier of players?

I personally have an ele, guard, engi and warr. I benched my engi long ago but it’s my only 80, found it lame in pve. Was happily levelling a warrior and really enjoyed it in all aspects of the game. I do ALOT of solo queuing, am I still fine on warr? Would I be better off playing my guardian instead or reviving my engineer?

Any thoughts appreciated guys, quick explanation would be awesome too.

I feel we are more than ok. I’ve been running water arcana fire and have been no less than a complete pita to kill. Damage is sweet too. Just swapped fire to earth so I imagine I’ll be even harder to kill now

The QQ is fairly strong lately reading the forums for some sort of inspiration into getting my lazy kitten levelling and it sometimes does the opposite haha!

Long story short obviously every class is viable at casual play, few are better than others at top tier but let’s face it, how many of us actually play up there?

I main ele, Mesmer and guard, all 3 seem fotm this patch but I still get my kitten handed to me often. Ele not so much coz if I can’t withstand then I can usually escape somehow but I’m still learning that. No idea what rotation is what etc. I’m having a blast. The damage overall is a tad high but I can live with that. I’ve been wrecked by rangers, necros, the whole lot lol.

Not top tier, definitely enjoying it. So much so that I can’t for the life of me stick to just 1 class and level it. Brb spending tomes on 3 toons at once!

I love a high skill cap! So Ele is the best for skill cap to reward? If that’s the case I’ll take it seriously now but first to delete the human and make asura :P

Sup peeps. Just a quickie really. Ele, Guard and Mesmer are the 3 I play at the moment, none are 80 as of ter. Guardian being closest at 51. The other 2 being 30.

Out of the 3 which is the better option to learn PvP, pve and wvw? Solo and group play? Ideally need to get awesome on 1 before I learn all 3..!

Yeah I’ve noticed that which I quite like. Fire wrecks mobs so you’re saying 30 onwards it gets better still, neat.

I tried to lvl as dd but it wasn’t that exciting. Staff fire just seems to destroy everything with extreme ease. Any tricks to spells I need to know about or is it fairly straight forward? I switch a lot but half the time don’t really understand the point of fire does so well apart from water to heal ofc

Oh also forgot to ask are there any tricks to use on Ele? Like for engineer with the healing turret you drop cast pickup instantly for best effect. Anything like this for Ele?

Levelling the Ele currently but have only tried staff in pve and dd in PvP. Are Ele quite annoying to level via hearts etc? Am I better off zerging or crafting? I’m lvl 22 atm and touch wood its been nice so far staff lava font melts mobs quick.

I ditched my Mesmer for now for my ele as I found it more bouncy and fun… Smart move?

Had a look around Google etc at some crafting questions, was just curious. How much does it actually cost roughly to go the whole nine yards through Trading Post? I’ve seen posts with people saying 40g or so but I don’t. Elieve that at all. I spent 3g going from level 10-13 with weaponsmithing lol :/

In the process of levelling the 2 classes I finally found I enjoyed the most, Mesmer and Guardian. I only get to log in maybe twice a week for a few hours at the moment so I’ve been tagging along in WvW which to be fair got me from 16 to 25 pretty fast. However when no commander is active I can’t be bothered farming hearts after doing it on my engineer.

Tl;dr, cost to buy materials for crafting going from level 20-80? Any good guides out there for what to make etc? Which crafts am I best off doing? Cheers!

What happened with the traits…? I know I can’t get any until 30 atm which is painfully slow… Do enjoy my little Mesmer but it’s very slow at the lower levels

Been AFK a few weeks, just curious if you guys are enjoying the patches and finding it better than before? My other class is Guardian so no idea how they’re doing either. Sounds like we are in a better place from what I’m seeing. I’m pvp and dungeons so any feedback will be awesome!

I wouldn’t recommend thief for pve, especially if you are starting with dungeons. It’s squishy and need active defence to survive. If the party isn’t good, you might be able to solo some stuff but you can’t carry them as well as guard would. Also, some dungeons have parts where most assume the thief in party either knows the skips and cds on his skills or where he should solo certain parts. People often mess up stealthing up and it’s just pita for the thief to get others successfully skip anything. Some will ignore stealth completely, either out of dislike to thief class or just cos they are a ps warrior and don’t care who goes down to mobs they pulled when rushing ahead on a skip.

Warrior has okay dps and is easy to play, if you like yawnnn… boring gameplay, go for it.

Engi is awesome but takes a while to get into the awesome level, some haters out there sometimes kick or lfg no engi.

Guard is the almighty boon bot everyone loves, the inexperienced groups will ascend to the “dungeon completed” level with a guard in party You would need to know when to use certain skills but generally people will live as long as you are around. Really nice class to learn dungeons with.

Ele – dps queen warriors look up with deep envy and hopes HoT will fix it. Not so great for learning dungeons as the class is squishy, but not bad either.

I avoid parties with necros mainly cos even if they have 15k AP, they fear EVERYTHING.

Btw, when you level, once you hit lvl appropriate for the first 3 dungeon stories, do those daily, they are fairly fast to do and the xp is nice, loot (especially CM for linen) is okay too.

Nice thanks for all of that! My current account I think I’m generally happy with. Ele, thief, mesmer, engi, guard. Engineer being my only 80 thus far. Thief being more of a PvP class with the ele and Mesmer. Guardian will priba my be my best 80. Guard or mesmer.

I’ve played my Mesmer only for PvP but am now looking into pve with him as my guard is a little slow and engineer I’m getting a wee bit bored on.

Is Mesmer levelling as annoying as I’ve heard? Or is it fairly easy? I have the feeling mobs will kill my illusions quick leaving me to kite everything forever lolol. I assume I want to go gs and staff from the get go until 80…?

So I’m safe with going guardian pve, engineer general and mesmer PvP? ,:P still don’t think I could stomach levelling a mesmer looks PAINFUL

I’m currently levelling my guardian for pve and PvP. How badly were they affected? Should I give up and play something else or carry on? My main is a lvl 80 engineer but haven’t paid much attention to it. My alts are mesmer, ele, ranger and necro

I’m levelling my guardian as we speak. Legit answers should I jump ship or will we be fine? Only other class I have is engi. Only other class I’d enjoy is probably mesmer or elementalist. Should I stay guard?

So is anyone able to give a quick review of the changes? Who’s legit going to be nerfed and who buffed? Are any of these changes going to affect greatly pvp or dungeon grouping?

Hey guys just a quick question really. Apart from sword leap and staff speed, what others ways can I increase my movement speed on guardian? I absolutely love my guardian but the speed whilst farming hearts etc is a nightmare hahaha.. I mostly spend time in Spvp farming tomes of knowledge…

You do make thief sound much more high paced and enjoyable, think the squishyness would irk me though. Mesmer sounds fab but I think my skills lie more in guard ranger thief esque play

That makes guardian sound a lot nicer in my eyes for sure. Will definitely level the guardian then the ranger afterwards. Took me moooonths to get the engineer to 80, the ranger would take no time at all as its such a breeze to level, guardian a lot slower but gotta grind it!

Cool so guard isn’t a requirement but it helps ease the flow in most groups. I’d assume for the elites its more a mix of thief warr ele

True this, best to bite the bullet and grind to 80 then try some dungeons, should probably attempt dungeons whilst levelling also unlike with my engineer.

A single warrior for every group is a good idea.

Thieves are always welcome with their high damage, blinds, and stealth, thanks to the higher damage 2 isn’t really frowned upon like a warrior, but in casual grouping 2 warriors isn’t really bad either.

Guardian is the defensive king, I can’t say I’ve ever seen someone frown at a guardian joining the party unless you already have one, or worse multiple. And as for leveling them, Sword/Focus + Greatsword. When you Whirling Wrath try to get inside the target circle of the enemy such that the projectiles and the melee strikes hit the target for more damage. Sure you lack the ability to blow things up while you’re still running at them, but you can do soemthing like Focus5, then Sword2 when you’re close enough to teleport to them, then swap GS and walk inside them and whirling wrath… often this alone will kill your targets, if not continue your rotation. I look back and I’d have agree’d with your feelings when I leveled up my guardian, but now, I don’t know, knowing the right approach changes things. Ohh and have a group of enemies, well do that, then don’t walk inside, but instead position yourself such that you can binding blades them together and pull them in, then whirling wrath the group, even better if they shoot projectiles and you can drop a wall to make them help kill themselves. Again, the approach is everything.

That said, Rangers are sweet, but yes, you and everyone is expected to melee in dungeons, not doing so is simply bad in many ways. Ele is the only profession capable of doing their max damage at range, but doing so can cause the enemy to chase them meaning less damage for your teammates, or worse things. But, rangers are good, frost spirit and SPotter being nice team buffs, you have blasts, esp warhorn being a nice team buff (though not meta). Personally my big turnoff for them is the sword auto attack can be incredibly frustrating and it’s just by far your best option(well and I’m not a big fan of static pet classes). Thanks to synergy with traiting using it and getting the cripple bumps your dps 10% higher, so the ~7% gain it is on GS can really be a 17% gap, quite a difference. I do like their GS though.

From what you said I’d honestly suggest guard, you have the defensive/support strengths, but you can shed them to still do great offense. And even if you want to go ranged, scepter is often pretty decent, just i’d refer to my earlier comment on melee/ranged. And, like I said, you’re almost never not wanted, maybe not necessarily wanted but you can do fine.

So Ranger is a fun idea but the sword AA isn’t ideal. I have to admit I did find s/a fun when levelling the leap is awesome and the pet tank just makes life so much more relaxing.

Guardian. My issue with guardian is suffering through the first 30 levels Until it starts to get better haha. But it does look like the class I’d probably enjoy the most. GS and sword for levelling, will try this for sure and see how it goes.

Still, worthwhile levelling up the ranger? Just as its so easy to level its a breath of fresh air lol, so relaxed and care free

Well I LOVE playing my Ranger but understand they’re hated and have to play melee. I find it fast paced and great solo which is what I love at times as grouping isn’t always an option. I also love how the guardian plays but trying to level one is a kitten nightmare, especially after playing a ranger, everything feels slow and boring!

Engineer is my Jack of all trades, I’m just looking into something possibly required for groups, entertaining to play and versatile in choice. Damage, support, defence. Ranged or melee, doesn’t matter.

Only just hit 80 on my Engineer and have yet to even attempt dungeons in gw2, definitely going to level an alt purely for pve but would love to first find out everyone’s thoughts on ideal setups?

So far I understand thief is used for single target damage and stealth whilst warrior is used for pure raw cleave along with elementalist. I think these 3 are the top classes damage wise? Then support from what I understand is a mix between mesmer and guardian?

Let’s see who’s more of a fan of what then, levelling is a nightmare but once I have a keen idea of what each class is useful for, then it’ll make the end goal a tad more appealing.

I’ve probably scanned over the guides and not realized it. Being so picky with my classes I finally got my engineer to 80 and think I’ll just stick to ranger as my alt as its so much fun.

I do it all, spvp, wvw, dungeons etc so which builds and what pets etc am I wanting? Just general tips and tricks please! Also curious how we fare at damage compared to other classes in pve? I know we aren’t meta in PvP but I have my engineer I love playing also and prob play guard, thief too lol. Power ranger is hilarious in Spvp though

Really am undecided on the 3, it’s quite a tough decision. Guardian skills are so much fun but the lack of mobility I hate sometimes. Elementalist is very exciting to play but just can’t be bothered levelling it lmfao.

Is elementalist considered a strong roamed? How does it fair in solo pve also? I definitely need to level it. Not sure on the most effective way though, heart farming is rather dull and slow. I’m currently staff, is there a more effective alternative?

Yeah I see mesmers kicking butt and destroying people and my God so many clones, can never find the right one.

So elementalist for general alt and mesmer for PvP. I won’t bother levelling mesmer I’ll just PvP on it haha.

So I finally hit level 80 on my engineer, only took me since launch to do it casually hearting and pvping for tomes lol. But I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do now?

Also holy craps why did I pick the class with the hardest rotation LOL. In PvP I find the engineer sooooo much fun to play, in pve I’ve no idea what I’m doing apart from spamming whatever damage works via nades, elixir gun, flamethrower and rifle lol.

Really I’m just after any advice or tips and tricks you have please! So far I know dd for PvP and staff for pve. Ill probably hate levelling as I’m used to levelling on my ranger which is a doddle. But again any tips for levelling also?

which class do you think has the best appeal in equipment? I checked out metabattle and the “rotation” seems ok but a little confusing. The 4 attunements seems worrying as it seems like a lot to do but I’ve no idea if I need to swap often etc etc

also roaming, are we viable? Solo queue PvP, pug dungeons and fractals, how are we?

Yeah I think I’ll leave the thief for now. So far I’m with my engineer , elementalist , ranger and for the last spot I’m thinking of trying out a mesmer, they seem hard to learn but once learnt they seem very very good for solo and group play. Builds seem fun also which is very important.

But yeah still a little rusty on the engineer but getting him to 80 first. I know I’ll get all to 80 eventually but between elementalist ranger and mesmer what do you think is the most fun, easy to get into pve groups and best for solo queueing spvp?

Oh forgot to ask with the engineer healing turret it’s a pain in the kitten nal when you have to kite or dodge and run out of the radius… Also just a little curious on how well thieves seem to perform as it’s the only class I haven’t tried as of yet..

Finally found which classes I enjoy playing and that’s engineer ranger and elementalist. I’ve got the engineer at 65 so he will be my first 80.

1) engineer at 80, for PvP I love it. For pve, how are we? What positions do we majority fill and how desired are we for groups? Any tips or advice on the class ?

2) ranger at 80. For PvP I’m having a blast messing around on the power ranger, simple I know but it’s just one of those fun simple things you love in life. How are rangers in Pve? Same as engineer again what roles do we fill and how desired are we? Any tips or advice for the class itself?

3) elementa list at 80. I have no idea how to play elementalist but holy craps I enjoy playing it, feels very tanky also… Have only tried d/d however. again with elementalist for pve what positions are we filling and is there any tips or advice you can offer on the class?

Last thing is a general PvP group question. As I’m currently levelling my classes to 80, I absolutely hate farming those hearts so I’m farming unranked PvP matches, is this the fastest way to get the tomes of knowledge? Also curious how well the engineer, ranger and elementalist do in group ranked play…

For sure Warrior will be stupidly fast to level. im going to use the boost on a Guard to try him out. Obviously it will be slower than the Warrior but the style of it still has me thinking it might be a better more fun option. But ill play both then make a decision for sure.

Ill likely only pick warr or guard then look for a “caster” as an alt… How ARE Necros…??? For mostl casual pve/pvp/roam, are they fun and strong? other option is Mesmer but i like the look of necro to be honest…

But yeah as far as guard and warr.. I like the “spell” style of the guard, the skills are more magical, feel like a battlemage almost. I know its slow however so its the fun side of it va the low health and poor speed which the warr has. Fun guard with low health, slow speed or semi-fun/boring warr with high health fast speed…! Also like how guard is always wanted in groups, makes LFG alot easier.
