I’ve beaten a few on my thief 1v1 using d/p.. I don’t know how skilled they were but I beat them.
In my opinion, NOPE
Pre-HOT pvp: reaction based pvp
HOT pvp: cool-down based pvp (very spammy), alot of passiveThis is SOOO true!! Prior to HoT, there were only a few BS things that prevented GW2 from being truly reaction-based (like thief stealth burst capability stomping on any other burst build, auto-procs of damage). HoT took all those things, and added all new ways for the game to become less reaction-based!
Translation: Thieves ruined the game for everybody.
:D
Literally the only thing thief crapped on was bad zerk build… If you couldn’t handle a zerk thief on a ranger, warrior, cele ele, engi, and over various classes then you weren’t playing properly… Honestly I’ve always felt “Thief? HAH! free kills”… Unless you just built badly you would never be one shot by them, and if you did build that way you knew to be careful… Every class has invulns, blocks, etc to counter…
If anything they are worse NOW to fight than then… Now its that BV> Black powder> Assassin’s Signet > bound > steal > backstab > shadowshot till dead spam… Wait for cooldowns and repeat…
I tried googling & wiki but didn’t actually know what to search for. Thanks
I don’t really see the issue and I run the t4 variants whenever they are the dailies. Just take a stun breaker in case you get stuck so you don’t fall. My only suggestion would be to take your best healing per second heal. I think for ele that maybe the cantrip one but I haven’t touched mine since pre HoT so don’t quote me on that.
Honestly… I just went my home borderland maps and started taking the nodes on the middle one by one… Once I had max participation by doing this I would afk for 5~8 minutes at a time next to a node. Once my alarm went off I’d tab back into gw2 & reclaim the node I was standing next to & that would reset the timer… Did that for a while & finally got the gift…
The reward track is complete garbage and a waste of time for anything other than GoB… Honestly Anet put zero effort into this & should be ashamed..
Edit: I did this at very late times so the chances of some random person finding and killing me was extremely small . I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone unless your just so sick of WvW or have constant computer issue while in big fights.
Well Anet could remove BoH from AP chests, dailies, and nerf the drop rate off enemies. They could enforce a new version that can be spent at a vendor to obtain the gifts.
All they honestly had to do was change the currency used to buy it from badges to proofs of heroics… Maybe tweak the the # needed to buy the gift & done…
That way I could still do a decent reward track instead of one that gives so many garbage crafting materials as rewards… Honestly when is the last time any of us have needed a T1~T5 molten shard or whatever…

For free ascended items just play lots of WvW. You have a low chance to get ascended boxes in your WvW rank up chests. I just got an armor box 2 or 3 nights ago.
The only reason I would ever craft ascended gear is if I had money to throw away for no reason or it was absolutely needed for the content I wanted to play (only fractals atm).
I highly doubt they will add more. When the sprocket ax came out MANY players were outraged due to the fact it was only a month or so after the inital release of the molten pickax.
I for one was extremely displeased with Anet for releasing an even better ax shortly after the original. That was one of the last times I ever spent real money in the gem store & have only done gold to gems since.
If I had had an extra + didn’t already have multiple 80’s of every class… I’d prolly make a class I would use for both WvW & PvE… I find it easier to switch from character to character instead of moving gear around to change my build to suit my character… That way I can simply swap from Necro #1 for fractals to Necro #2 for WvW… Same with my Rev #1 & #2 and a few other classes…
Now if your asking which class you should get to 80 next & you don’t have every profession to 80 already that completely different… You could always go necro because they are viable in all game modes… You would likely need to get a set of zerker for genearal PvE and WvW but, a set of condi would be optimal for fractals & raids.
I was on youtube and saw this random video under recommend for opening 25 black lion chests… Figured I was bored enough so I watched it… It was rather dull the way through except one part…
His transaction list in the trade post was super compressed & it looked very nice & clean… I was wondering if anyone knew how to accomplish this… To see what I’m referring to check it out here
The part I’m referring to is at 1:30…
Any help on making mine look like this would be epic… I’ve tried googling but haven’t found anything as of yet…
Other games can do banning phases because their games were designed with that in mind, gw2 was not and a ban phase would destroy it.
This isn’t league of Legends… I agree pick/ban is beyond a stupid idea for a game with only 9 classes… Not even banning amulets should be considered… Or banning anything… Just no… Go back to LoL or dota or w/e kids are playing these days OP…
what we need is build diversity.
This, 100% this… This all day every day… Then some more at night… Lack of build diversity has driven me away from PvP… Of my 2.8k games 8 of them were from season 3… Lack of build diversity is more balanced, but it is extremely less fun… If it isn’t fun I don’t care how balanced it is, I won’t play it…
Actually, we don’t need to ban “classes” we need to work on classes to create more VIABLE meta build.
100% agreed… Shave current existing skills & traits that causing current meta builds to be wildly successful and slowly buff up the skills & traits that see little or no use in PvP… Stop quarterly patches & do them monthly with many slight tweaks… Do quarterly updates for major trait updates and the like (like what was done with the ranger shouts).

Season 1 was good, to me it seemed to benefit teams of 3 moderate to highly skilled players more than solo or 5 player groups. To me it seemed as though Anet would put worse players on your team the better the you did but with a team of 3 reasonably high skilled players you could advance very quickly gaining 15~20 pips a night in just 3~4 hours play. I personally got to the last tier of ruby before I decided to stop playing as I was a bit bored with it & I used the 3 man system (never used exploits or smurf).
Season 2 was decent, I felt it still benefited the 3 man playstyle but instead of putting worse players on our team I felt it matched us against more and more 5 player premades & even against some top tier gaming groups that frequent the tournaments (we would usually lose those). To me the system didn’t feel like fair matches, it felt more as though the game was trying to force us into a 50/50 win/loss instead of finding out what our skill level was and placing us against other players at that same level.
I took a break half way through season 2 & came back towards the end and played some solo queue & climbed from low sapphire to diamond tier 2 before deciding to stop. During the time I spent in solo queue I felt the same as when I did with my 3 man team, being forced into a 50/50 win rate as I played over 50 games in ruby but eventually got a win streak from tier 2 ruby to tier 3 diamond. Either I magically got awesome or this proves match making is not actually reflective of player skill level and I was just being constantly placed in 50/50 win/loss matches & something got me out of it and I finally started to face players of my similar skill level in diamond. I eventually stopped playing season 2 due to boredom and being back in the 50/50 win/loss struggle like in ruby.
Season 3 I didn’t play much. I wasn’t impressed by the balance changes as none were extremely impactful on my main class (ranger). In complete honesty the biggest change to my class was actually reducing our viable builds from 3 to 2 (less condi removal via glyphs). I was still rather bored from all the stagnant, unchanging, low diversity pvp that was season 2 & I didn’t feel the need to subject myself to that torture again. What few matches I did play felt like extreme blowouts where I didn’t have to put much effort in to win & no matter how much I put in to win a lost game it was impossible to make a comeback. I finished with a 75% win rate.
These are just my experiences, make of it what you will…
I personally think if your not a minimum of rank 1,000 in WvW you shouldn’t get a vote. It’s not hard to get & just time consuming. All that would show is that you spend a good amount of time in WvW & most people in EotM wouldn’t be that high.
Another issue with more variance is you will increase load times for players as well as put more stress on servers. The more variance you have the more the servers have to keep track of, the more they have keep track of aesthetics the more slow down you’ll have on skills (such as skill lag in massive WvW fights).
Don’t get me wrong, I love diversity when it comes to looks but it also comes with a price. EvE Online is a prime example of this, the more variance of ship & paint types the harder the servers work & the slower the battles happen due to server lag.
TL;dr – We need something to bridge the difficulty gap between average gameplay & raids. Tiers are the best option I’ve seen to date.
You already have something to bridge the gap, ironically you mentioned it in you post.
Dungeons -> Fractals -> Raid.
You can thank me later.
Dungeons = AA & win
Fractals = Get ascended gear w/ infusions, AA & win
Raids = Player demanded ascended gear, know the mechanics, know your damage rotations, know how to use your skills properly, & win…
Fractals are cheese mode that typically require no more than 1 spam along with one to two abilities. Once you get into the T3 or T4 range you might have to learn how reflects work & stacking in a corner for 1 spam cleave… So hard…
There are too many hard counters currently… Classes rolling with 50%+ up time on reflects… Having 50%+ resistance up time… Having 100% up time on strong debilitating conditions… Having 50%+ protection up time…
I just don’t see the skill involved when high impact boons & conditions can have such extreme up times. Don’t get me wrong things like might & fury should have decent up time, the same should be said for damaging conditions such as bleed & poison. I just take issue with high impact boons & conditions having extreme up time that completely makes so many possible builds obsolete in PvP.
The real issue with build diversity is not that Anet is lazy and are not buffing skills properly. The real issue lies in the fact that nearly all projectiles are useless due to extreme reflects. Traditional condition builds are useless due to extreme resistance. Many burst builds are bad due to high weakness, protection, or both up time.
Every competitive build uses either a melee weapon or a ranged weapon that doesn’t use projectiles. Every class is forced to do this due to the extreme amount of reflects & that is one of the biggest causes of limited build diversity.
Just my opinion… Fell free to agree/disagree but nothing will change my mind on this…
Anet already thought of this & said it will never happen years ago… They even went out of their way to nerf racial skills just so they wouldn’t infuence which class you play for PvE…
My only issue with racial skills is rev doesn’t get access to racials… Got very disapointed when I went to use leapord form from norn skills only to realize I can’t…
Just don’t be like me & get good at only 2 classes that are situational like thief & ranger… I can fix very few team comps by switching from one to other… I’ll like be forced into learning ele or rev to remain competitive as a solo queue pvp player…
Pocket raptors would have been awesome, but I honestly can’t complain about the selection we got. Smokescales, Wyverns, and Bristlebacks are amazing pets.
I couldn’t see trading out any of them for beetles or raptors. Well, maybe the tiger… but that’s IMO.
-snip
I was speaking to it from an aesthetics angle.
Where do you get the idea I was arguing pet mechanics? Smokescales, Wyverns, and Bristlebacks are much cooler than two kinds of beetle and a pocket raptor.
I think they made the right call overall for the pets that we can tame in HoT. That said, the tiger pet is just a reskin of at least like two pets we can already get.
If it were up to me I’d have shelved the tiger for the pocket raptor (preferably) or one of the beetles.
Well for starters it was never mentioned once in entire post if we are only talking aesthetics, functionality, or both. As for aesthetics I’d agree Anet actually did a half decent job on the pets except the bristleback… That thing has a butt ugly face I just can’t forgive…
…before we can run different Borderlands at the same time…
This will make the game mode less competitive imo & I hope this doesn’t happen but it seems like it is…
A quick google found at least 2 times

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/weekend-sale-bag-slot-and-bank-tab-expansions/
Wow, it never once dawned on me to use google… Thanks
Just wondering if Anet has ever discounted the bank tabs before.
SS was awesome till it got nerfed… Now its decent & still the best pet for sticking to people…
Wyverns are absolute bovine excrement who can’t hit a moving target whatsoever…
Bristleback was amazeballs & then it was nerfed but was still amazing… Then it got nerfed again… and again… and again… Now its only decent & nothing too special but still craps all over the vanilla pets. Then again the vanilla pets have never once been buffed since launch afaik & were constantly nerfed.
Honestly I’m glad we didn’t get more pets. They would have either been disappointing like the wyverns or nerfed into mediocrity. Anet refuses to give rangers the proper development time so my thinking is, the less attention we get the better because it’s usually something bad when we are looked at.
Anyone who says tiers is a bad thing needs to find the door and get out. I meet way more inexperienced players than I ever do uber elite players who can do any & all of the hardest content in the game.
If you actually join an average guild of 300+ members and ask how many of them are able to run a 40 fractal, you get 20 that have done it. Ask that same guild how many can do a lvl 60 and you might get might get 10. Ask that same guild how many can do a lvl 100, and if your lucky 3 will say they can do it.
Ask this same guild another question, how do you spend most of your time in GW2? An overwhelming majority will reply with answers pertaining to extremely easy content that requires very little skill. Of that guild of 300 average players less than 10% will pvp on a regular basis & less than 10% of them will even do dungeons.
To put it in perspective Anet has always cruised around an easy 10~15 mph. Then raids happened and all of the sudden we are going 60 mph and many people don’t know how to go from one extreme to the other.
This content bars far too many from it without a difficulty gap in between. Dungeons could have been this but Anet in their all knowing wisdom decided it was best to make them less rewarding and to never update them.
Until the gap is closed tiers have been the best solution I’ve heard so far. Thank you for the well written post OP. I personally don’t raid & not because I can’t, I just don’t have anything to gain that I actually want.
TL;dr – We need something to bridge the difficulty gap between average gameplay & raids. Tiers are the best option I’ve seen to date.
Thx for the replies. Will take that into consideration.
For instance I have a sorta friend who has Spark that I’m wanting to buy from him but since I’ve played Eve Online I’ve grown to trust absolutely no one in any online game when it comes to anything currency related.
I know scamming is a reportable offense but I want to know if Anet would rectify the situation if things didn’t go according to plan.
I know of the gold limitation when you mail gold.
If you punish leavers too severely you’ll inadvertently punish people who have power surge, power loss, ISP issues, emergency situation etc… If your saying you’ve never had this issue I’d like to point out we all don’t live in the perfect location where we can run an extension cord directly from the power plant and an ethernet cable directly into GW2 servers… Crap happens, deal with it…
Now if you actually made a post that took longer than 5 seconds to formulate such as adding the thought “If they left x number of matches in x amount of time” I would be more empathetic. Sadly this is not well thought out or planned post and I feel entirely unsympathetic to your complaint. Have a good day.
I only want one thing… Amulet with main stats precision & condition damage..minor stats would be healing power & toughness… Maybe then we can finally see condi ranger make a come back in over a year…
I want a game mode much more like GW1’s Fort Aspenwood… I know stronhold is kind of like it, but in all reality stronghold is much like the guild arenas in GW1…
I must be the only person who enjoyed courtyard… Then again I was a spirit ranger that would never die because of never ending immobilize and self rez…
There are an extreme amount of causes for this bug, it’s not only thief. I know one of the major causes is the imob condition itself. I’ve found that sometimes after you remove it your character will still not move as if the condition was still on you.
Anet has known of this issue for years and it has only become worse… Don’t expect a fix as this issue has been ongoing for an extreme amount of time that any decent self respecting game company would have been fixed… Even activision would have fixed this issue if it happened in call of duty and that’s saying something..
They have all sucked… But out of all turds one must be the shiniest… I guess I would say season 1 was the best as the matchmaking was better and has only gone downhill since…
Edit: anything pre june 2015 is better than anything post june 2015…
and where can we see the results ourself? rather interested what the community as a whole thinks
He means dishonorable but he obv has no idea about any of the abbreviations for gw2…
In gw2 we don’t abbreviate dishonorable… DH = dragon hunter
As for why you got dishonorable is simple… You were out of the game longer than your allowed… Anet doesn’t care if you win or lose, if your outside of the match for too long too bad for you…
Also as far as ANet is concerned your connection is your problem. Your responsible for it if it goes it. If it goes out for longer than that timer than your outta luck. Your connection, your problem… Not being rude, this is literally anet’s stance on your connection.
I’ve played less than 10 games since mid season 2… I just got so tired of fighting the same class, using the same the same build, using the same skill rotation, with no deviation, the only difference being nameplates…
I want fun gameplay, not gameplay where I can count in my head “1, 2, 3, dodge… 1, 2, 3, burst… 1, 2 ,3…”
That’s not fun, it’s not competitive, I won’t come back to pvp until there are MANY viable builds again… I’ll just stick to PvE, WvW, and trade post wars…
Firstly make legendary mean something. Legendary has meant absolutely nothing about a players skill level since it was introduced. At best it shows you have a basic grip on the game and your class…
Titles are trivial and mostly ignored by everyone. Very few man anything and even if you have one that does it goes unnoticed by nearly everyone. Maybe if they made titles give you some kind of bonus in other game modes, but that’s silly and I wouldn’t support that anyways…
Exclusive skins are fine but as it currently stands it doesn’t matter how good you are at the game, getting to legendary is just a major time sink and non representative of your skill. I hate wasting hours of days, of weeks, through the entire season just to get where I’m supposed to be in the rankings… I’m saying I want to start out in legendary but for a solo queue player it takes an extreme amount of time to climb through the system unless you get a lucky win streak and anet’s match making doesn’t start placing you on bad teams like two thieves, three dragon hunters, etc. I can personally only play two classes competitively in diamond or higher and I can’t fix our team comp every game with only ranger & thief.
As for finishers I like the idea but anet has fallen into a very bad habit of making very disruptive finishers that obstruct the view of battle. The best example is the modrem dragon finisher, it is MASSIVE and is not transparent at all. Another offender is the regular dragon finisher being very flashy and the colors look too much like some ele skills. Another thing with some finishers as they have too many effects such as the birthday finisher, or they just last entirely way too long such as the lama. The game is already way to cluttered with all this stuff I don’t want to see more like it unless its like the original finishers which were short & transparent.
As for the leaderboards I don’t care about this one bit… As far as I can remember every single leaderboard done for GW2 has been “Most games played” instead of actual skill level and that will continue to presist in legendary leaderboards… There will of course be some players that actually are that good at the game and climb decently high with fewer games played but historically that has not been true for almost any GW2 leaderboard system…
TLDR: Make legendary mean something, titles mean nothing, exclusive skins are cool but it’s a time sink & obtaining has nothing to do with skill atm, finishers would have to be made carefully, and lastly leaderboards have historically been a joke in GW2.
I used to WvW but after rank 1,700 I got bored w/ it… I used to PvP but with the lack of build diversity I’ve gotten bored with it… I have basically everything I could want as far as items go so there isn’t really any point in me farming unless I just want to ecto gamble for fun… The storyline is obviously not going anywhere till August or September (maybe even later)…
At this point I just want a reason to log in, and the daily rewards aren’t even enough to make me want to log in for even 3 seconds… Suggestions?
It’s a 5 man noob fest because at minimum half the decent or better players have quit pvp because anet has severely neglected its balance and turning it into a spam fest full of never ending boons, condis, and ridiculous effects that are extremely overpowered or completely out of place and don’t function as intended…
Meh I can’t help but think… If this was a ranger ability on a 20s icd and had a range of 900 and could stomp & rez it would be nerfed…
Probably it would be nerfed down to 600 range and have a 60s icd… Oh wait, this already happened to rangers but it only had half the functionality that the gyro does and wasn’t nearly as strong…
In short I’d like to see the range nerfed to 600 and the icd increased to a minimum of 48s but preferably 60s…
I played only a few game of pvp this season and I can say my fun to hate ratio of time spent in gw2 has gotten much better…
Even when I’m climbing through divisions in PvP I’m having little to no fun and I’ve basically gone back to 100% PvE while playing WvW on the weekends…
As far as I’m concerned all classes are extremely unbalanced and there are so few viable builds you end up fighting the exact same comp using the exact same builds game after game with the only change being nameplates… I for one suggest abandoning PvP and watching anet scramble as they try to figure out why no one likes that kittenty game mode…
When is this finally going to be added back into the game in an attainable way without a currency that we haven’t been able to earn for nearly two years?
Did the reward track for the hero’s weapon chest thinking I’ll finally get the torch I’ve always wanted and now I have a crappy rare taking up a slot in my bank…
Refer to my signature…
Traits changed so drastically and suddenly and then condi stacking was thrown on top of it. Then they went and tossed a whole new trait line full of extremely over powered things and gave every class a new wepaon…
Since then AN has done very little balancing and actually decreased build diversity. To top it off they remove half the amultes because they don’t like stats when the issue was always the traits and skills and never the stats (except cele which was silly op)…
I gave up on PvP mid season 2 and I don’t see myself ever being competitve again.
Just to be clear I didn’t stop because I can’t win (because I can), I don’t play because I grow tired of playing 100’s of games a month against the exact same professions, running the exact same builds, every single game, with the only difference between games is player nameplates…
Agree with OP and refer to my signature…
Nerf the duck out of everything, lower damage, raise cooldown timers, lower condititon application, lower boon application, remove most of the trait damage modifiers, and make most (if not all) traitlines useful for either pvp or pve as many are useless for both.
Let me add to all the wonderful things you have just mentioned: They need to reduce condition application and overkill condition removal.
I agree with that, but I honestly meant nerf EVERYTHING including the stuff I didn’t mention such as the stupid, insane, no skill, low cooldown, passive stuns and cc’s.
It just wasn’t designed that way… Should have been but wasn’t…
It’s prolly the same reason anet does half the stuff they do… They had an idea, they thought it was cool, they added it to the game without thinking it through properly…
I just want precisons + condi dmg as major stats… Healing power and toughness minor stats…
With that condi ranger can finally start to become viable again and maybe even be meta with some trait tweaks… It would be amazing to play again as condi ranger has been useless since june 2015…
Agree with OP and refer to my signature…

When even after its buffs… You realize longbow is still a better flat damage, condi damage, and utility weapon than shortbow…
Good vid btw
I’m not sure I see the problem, they’ve changed participation to 5 min ticks now rather than 15 haven’t they? So at most people would be waiting around for 4 and a half minutes now? Personally I used that time for inventory management. Because nothing epitomises my time in gw2 like trying to free up inventory slots at every possible moment. (And my server never has queues).
Actually, does it take the same amount of time to reach whatever the cap is now as it took to reach the cap when it was every 15min or does it take like a 3rd of the time now as then?
(God I wish I could play right now and just find out for myself)
I last wvw’d nearly a week ago and I was still being rewarded beyond the 5 minute mark. It lasted about a full 15 minutes (I didn’t time it). Since I was still being rewarded for the effort I put in I fell as though I need to afk to be properly rewarded for all that I actually contributed before I left so I would constantly find myself having GW2 minimized while I watch a few youtube videos…
I would just like a reward system put in place that rewards players the moment they capture an objective. To counter the K-train and EotM people you would implement a diminishing returns function that would kick in after so many objective captures in a certain amount of time. I would also only apply that effect to towers and keeps as a small group can take many caps/sentries in a very short amount of time.
I miss the days before a class had the ability to make their heal, all utilities, and their elite an AoE daze…
I miss the days before a class had condition removal on their heal, all utilities, and elite…
I miss the days before half the classes spammed stealth and could crit for 5k on a dodge…
I miss the days before half the classes could load you up with 5 or more condis in one second and do it again the moment you cleared them…
I miss the days of having multiple viable builds for all classes instead of one or two…
There are many more things I miss from the glory days but the thing I miss most is having fun in GW2 PvP…
