I thought ~60% sword time seems to be best rotation wise but from what i experienced in my lupi solos the optimum is more around 50/50. And that even includes Force + Slaying on Sword/Focus. 3-4 boons are average in solo play, 5-6 in group play. 7-8 with some 6u4n66u4rd.
Nice idea.
Yeah id like to know that aswell. Because thats how i calculated target the weak dps. Not sure if its correct though. Only makes a slight difference. Anyway 10/25/0/10/25 because its not reliant on sword. 10/30/0/10/20 kind of forces you to use sword instead of doing a rotation.
Exactly. Doing a rotation is much better. Also together with other choices in gear, food and stacks it becomes better.
He’s a chronomancer. He controls the fourth dimension.
Too bad warriors don’t have teleports.
Hm, might have mixed it up with meteor shower then.
Also works as ele with tornado i think. It’s a funny thing but generally not too useful since the difference to full buffed only isn’t that huge.
They don’t remove your conditions so it doesn’t matter.
TA up was included in my list. A guardian just kills malrona as fast as. Just have to remember to switch the healing signet out.
I’m curious as I’ve just started playing Guardian myself. What is the ideal DPS rotation?
At the moment I’m just fitting in Sword #2 and Focus #4 between auto attack chains, then changing to Greatsword and going #2, #4, #5 (not pulling), #3, then auto attack until I can Whirling Wrath again before switching back to S/F. Generally just spamming blinds off CD to stack Vuln.
Sword #2 isn’t worth using. Try to use 2435 on greatsword to have vuln for highest amplifiers.
Those are dungeons where taking a mesmer doesn’t improve. Bringing an ele or a warrior instead is good for absolutely all dungeons. Also guardian for most.
Then I’m not the right person for you, i hate CoE and HotW.
Many people like CoE, though. You’d just have to mention on what server you are (EU/NA).
There is a way to critique a build without the negative impact to the thread that I’m seeing here. For a bunch of people that think everyone should play the correct way, it’s pretty ironic that the positive critique being provided is suggesting to use spirit weapon and burning builds. Come off it already. The intent is clear.
So now you’re being offensive and biased against me? How ironic.
Just read it. Gold.
Bump
AC 1-3, (CM?), TA up/fw, SE 3, HotW 1-3, CoF 1-3, CoE 1-3, Arah 1-4.
Let me get this clear. People should try my newest build 2.0 (thanks Nike for the feedback!) before they can evaluate it and say it’s really good and stays ahead of the curve. And to do this, you need to spend your money on the new shiny equipment, preferably ascended one.
It’s quite close to Obtena’s so it must be good!
Wow, just tried pugging p4 for like half an hour with this advertisement:
READ: Path 4, speedrun, experienced people who’re able to communicate only, gear+traitcheck!
One "support" guardian (PVT) and one berserker/divinity warrior with 30/30/0/0/20 (level 90?) traits. Then the lfg tool bugged and i’m unable to set up a new lfg because im supressed due to excessive spamming. /anet
All wraiths should spawn at the same time and in one circle. Either you kill them all within 20 seconds or you down and die.
I can definitely tell you that the bloodstone shard doesn’t bug. It never did for me and i never heard of anyone encountering such issue. Randall is resurrected once the four trash mobs die and becomes invulnerable.
Another story if you spent 5 hours trying to jump to it without doing anything, though.

I’d turn the gear into full berserker and run a "defensive" trait setup.
15/25/0/20/10 should be a good way to go, using a hammer. Against stationary targets your damage output will be really good and you still got a lot of defense with vigor, permanent protection, consecration mastery and the reduced shout cooldown (aegis!).
Second weaponset should be sword/focus for fights against moving targets.
Being able to recognise non-red circle attacks comes with experience, don’t worry about that too much. You’re mostlikely going to take lots of hits when doing new content, probably even going down. Thats just normal. Additionally, if you’re motivated and won’t lose courage from some deaths, you should try out 10/30/0/5/25 (or the shout cd instead of RHS) directly. We learn by doing faults, especially by dying so thats probably the quickest way to improve, while even with faceplanting still being efficient for the time alive.
I’ve tried stuff as cleric 0/0/10/30/30 ele too and have fun playing it from time to time. But before the run i ask my party if they’re okay with carrying me and would never come to the idea of advertising it. Not at all and if so i’d state it as what it is: bad and wouldn’t try to tell people it’s good.
Heh, I do this with my guardian. Slap on cleric’s gear, head out with the zerg in WvW and heal my dumb face off. It’s fun. I enjoy it, because I play healers in other games. I spam blinds and burns, cure condis and grant stability — and healing isn’t bad per se so it’s not totally useless — but I wouldn’t ever take that into a dungeon or for small-group roaming in WvW.
I think that’s the thing some people are missing in this discussion. There are times when it’s fine to play totally your way, hang efficiency. And there are times when you should prioritize efficiency to be considerate to your group.
Thank you.
All we’ve been saying is that silentstorms build is not efficient.
We couldn’t care less if he uses it in solo play or in “play how you want” dungeon groups, the only thing we strictly disagree with is that he says and advertises it as good.
Nah, will be unbanned in 5 days. What happened to cookie, though? Perma banned?
Mesmers dps without phantasms is the by far lowest in the game.
When you have 3 swordsmen up your dps is going to be very high (relying on team buffs still) but in what fight does that happen? Normal boss fights take less than a minute, so assuming you can get 3 phantasms up you’ll only deal good damage in the last seconds. And once your target has aoe abilities your phantasms will die after or even before their first attack. In realistic fights you’ll deal about half the damage of a necro.
To sum it up: using a mesmer in dungeons where you don’t need their utility is a bad idea.
I can’t.
Where the kitten did my signature go?
If you lack objectivity and the understanding that motivates the philosophy behind this build, what positive value could you possibly add to the thread? I doubt very much you will get answers to satisfy your inquiry in a thread about a build you think aims to be the least effective in absolutely everything. (unless your just aiming to be rhetorical, in which case would be inappropriate)
The build itself is very vanilla Guardian. It always has been. It’s a great starting point for people new to the profession. It’s a build that’s very independent of weapon. It has a broad range of application.
You have yet to answer a question, all your posts lack of substance. You’re saying much but nothing in the same time.
And no, i/we don’t lack objectivity. We know what build is better in what situation, backed up with mathematical facts and the experience of efficiently doing PvE, even including some LS stuff (ugh). The people advertising this build as good lack objectivity. It’s proven there are better builds in all regards and when there is something better in all cases around the current build is just bad.
It just cracks me up how people aim on being close to useless, yet advertising their playstyle.
All those people using such builds thinking they’re good because of some bad advice given… ugh.
To add: weapon swap/entering death shroud in combat will also abort your dodge.
Lupicus going chronomancer when going for a good time.
@OP: I’ve got that sort of lag for ~70% of my playtime. Better get used to it :/
That didn’t answer my question.
Andd why wouldn’t you be allowed to mention improvements to a build? Because that would destroy the flavour of the original build? I mean you should realize than even just swapping one useless trait for a better one wouldn’t be "the build" anymore.
I seriously have problems understanding that "play how you want" philospohy. To me it just seems to aim being the least effective in absolutely everything...
30/25/0/0/15 is the best option to go in a group, 30/15/0/0/25 is better for solo play (higher fury uptime). What can be achieved with that and some berserker equipment can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEjTqE--570
(Was 30/20/0/0/20 there but the 5% with >50% DS are worth more than the tiny corruption recharge).
Have i seriously been infracted and rewarded with an infraction point for asking what "the flavour of the orginal build" is? However, what exactly is the flavour of a build in your opinion? Isn’t it in the end all about being as effective as possible in the specific kind one has been aiming for? Suggesting a 10/30/0/5/10 instead of 0/0/30/30/10 is still an improvement of the build, whereas it obviously is also a new one. No build improvement can be made with maintaining the exact same build.
There has been an answer now to der*ys thread in the dungeon section.
Spoj is ugly, though.

I can’t talk about what changes are or are not happening in the future regarding party rules, but discussing how you want things to work is always valuable.
If you are in a full party and go into LFG, you won’t see any parties to merge into, Anicetus. If you are seeing situations where this is happening, it’s a bug (that I haven’t seen before), and it should be reported. The party list should only be populated with parties which your group could successfully merge into (the total number of players after merge is <= 5).
However, if you’re in a 4/5 party, and click merge on a single player, then you are forcing everyone in your party to join that lone player’s party. I believe this is probably where the confusion lies.
No, that isn’t the problem. It’s what you said is a bug. To be hinest before this thread i didn’t even knew it’s possible until i tried out. I might aswell jump in quick again, reproduce such situation so you see what the problem is. Give me 10 minutes.
My recommendation is you start running Fractals on your Warrior (like I’ve been doing) and we’ll talk.
I main a warrior, I hate playing guardian because it’s boring. I’m just not letting my personal preference skew the reality of classes. I can accept and acknowledge the merits of each class, and judge what they bring to the table in context of the rest of their kit, relative to other classes. I think guardians are extremely powerful for fractals, I just hate playing it, I would much rather play my warrior because it’s more fun (see: opinion/personal preference), and is also very powerful. I have friends who hate warrior and love guardian, so it’s not like guardian is just boring to play for everyone.
I’m the exact opposite. I main a Guardian. I’ve done a thousand Fractals on my Guardian. I have always and will always see myself as "maining" a Guard, but, as you say, I don’t let personal preference skew the reality of the class. Warrior is, I think, the superior all-around profession right now--and is, I think, objectively superior at bringing easy Support and DPS to groups.
Anyway, good talk. See you out there.
Well, you just seem to have not learned much about guardians in all that (wasted?) playtime then.
On a side note: Get one elementalist into your team and guardians are starting to out-dps warriors. One warrior is enough to take care of banners, two are the maximum of bringing buffs. Beyond that they simply become subpar.

This was even old in 2012.
I might be mistaken but it seems like you don’t see the problem on this. For example, you want to pug a dungeon. Joining a 4/5 party that is already at endboss. For whatever reason you decide to merge (now that you are in a 5/5 party and shouldn’t be able to merge anymore since your party is full) with another party. You’ll now be in the other party - and the four other peoples instace at boss will be destroyed. So because of you all their time spent in the dungeon would have been for nothing.
Now, that usually shouldn’t happen since there is pretty much no reason why you woldn’t just leave the party first before joining the other one, therefore letting the other 4 people their dungeon progression. But since path selling exists (and is, from what we’ve been told legal to do unless exploits were involved) and some "white knights" like scamming the sellers by crashing their dungeons this can be abused absurdly easy. One person can simply decide to join a seller at endboss, merge with another party and get the dungeon seller kicked. Yeah, usually reporting should be enough but i’ve been kicked myself that way already, reported the kickers and sent a video about it happening, yet nothing happened since they still happily log in day for day.
Obviously i did, lost about 3500g that time. Since dusk was cheap and energizer.. well
I just hope this doesn’t mean that it’s working as intented and won’t be fixed. Why would you even have the possitibility to merge your full group with another one, that makes absolutely no sense.
Hehe, same for me. My last time went by far better with 2 precursors, although i tossed about ten times as much in as today.
I think a lot of us are feeling this kind of boredom and frustration, especially as our friends leave.
Just do it like me, forge all your money for LOTS OF PEARL STUFF!
Was actually fun and just 400g :P
And you must fail at reading comprehension pretty hard.
Oh i just mistyped i guess. I had the DS recharge and spectral skills recharge.
Just realized i finally did 8/8 profession solo.
(edited by Anicetus.1253)
I’ve been using 2x Fire, 2x Strength and 2x Rage... 30/20/0/20/0, didn’t watch my traits/equip for ages until after the solo.
Uploaded attempt number 1 anyway even though i died there.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEjTqE--570
Oh, just attempted on necro and made something my second attempt. Already rendering now, although im not sure if i’ll upload it (~11:00 min, random equipment + traits, accuracy stacks and endurance food) or just do a better one (sub 10) first.
(edited by Anicetus.1253)
Little bump, noone pushing times any further?
Improvements? Change to 10/25/0/10/25. You deal almost 300% more damage, get higher uptime on swiftness, boon duration increased, more frequent aegis for you team, lower recharge on virtues, more condition remove, master of consecrations and get the chance to run with decent people who wouldn’t want you in their run with 2.5 crapadin.
You lose 300 toughness and AH but gain permanent vigor, which is much more important to survivability.
And anet fixes pvp rewards. Yay!
I wonder if you also fumble in pvp, must be about as annoying there as in pve.
Imagine a pvp team loses an important match just because their point holders fumbled at the wrong time.
