Nope. There’s no “fixing” the economy. Capitalism sucks for the 99%. When will you people accept that? There’s nothing that makes it fun.

Nonsense.

But as great as capitalism is in the real world, it’s not necessary in gaming.

You can enjoy a maxed out character and play all the same content as everyone else instead of being a slave to the economy like in other games.

For now.

Many items because of bots -> items do not cost a lot of gold -> people can not sell their items for a lot of gold -> people can not buy a lot of items.

Few items because of DR -> items do cost a lot of gold -> people can sell their items for a lot of gold -> people can not buy a lot of items.

I don’t necessarily disagree with your conclusion that drop rates are intentional and are intended to curb actual human players’ drops, I just want to point out that the former is not universally positive and the latter is not a universal negative, and in fact the conclusions you draw at the end “people can/cannot buy alot of items” are totally baseless.

I would rather farm for my own materials than farm for gold to purchase the materials.

I should thank you, though, for pointing out to me that the problem is the trading post itself. Normally I’m a supporter of capitalism and free markets, but if ever there is a place to fool around with less optimal forms of economic governance it would be in gaming, where the stakes are so low. Trading posts (or auction halls, etc) are clearly as toxic to MMOs as AQT is. No wonder they’re becoming staples of the industry have coincided with the genres relative decline.

Surely you’re trolling.

i still cant believe how hard Lost Shores flopped.

Why? The looks like it was still in alpha before they made a pass or two to clean it up for release. Seems like wasted content, because they could have just released fractals by themselves, and continued working on Lost Shores until LS was worth releasing.

And the mmorpg solution for the last decade has been to make it easier to get to L80. Because that’s where the real game begins.

Except that was once a solution used in mature games once expansion content was released and the previous content was no longer as relevant. Now, it’s par for the course that leveling will be so easy at release that it takes maybe a week to hit level cap.

I think GW2’s events would have benefited a lot from adopting the PQ system of Warhammer Online, if anybody’s familiar.

That’s what dynamic events are, an evolution of WAR’s PQ system.

TBH, I think it may be a design failure. WAR PQ’s were often criticized for their poor reward structure; seemingly nonsensical contribution trackers used to determine base seeding for reward lists before applying massive RNG. GW2 implemented none of that into DEs, and yet while they’re still just as sparsely populated.

Perhaps, similar to cutscenes, this style of content should be used sparingly. The events would seem more dramatic if they were limited to only major events such as the dragons.

Great siege defense skill , dunno why no one is using it …

I do on occasion. Handily pushes smaller sized zergs off of doors, but is useless once they start setting up ranged siege, and until the recent changes to wall/door repairs, I would drop into the middle of zergs as they passed through and hastily start repairing the wall/door, separating them into more manageable groups.

+10% of 30s is only 3s, and 80% of 60s is 48s, so a 15s gap would be expected.

Yes.

Well to be fair, they need to be capable of something constructive for their server, and they’re rather lack luster at sieges.

No they don’t; ninja assassin is great for PvE gaming, but not so much PvP gaming.

Also in closing it seems like there are ALOT of WoW players here who want stealth to act just like Rogue’s stealth.

Actually, I don’t want stealth in anything remotely PvP at all.

Nonsense; it’s clearly a Trading Post achievement, it’s just hidden in your achievement page.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ansultares.1567

Ansultares.1567

This question stems from so many people wanting Legendaries to be more accessible; saying, for example, things like “The precursor is the only thing holding me up!” Yes, that is because the precursor is the very rare aspect of having a Legendary weapon.

The precursor is holding me up…not because it won’t drop, but because I don’t have enough gold to buy it off the TP.

I hope that answers your follow-up question.

Game feels incredibly anti-melee.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ansultares.1567

Ansultares.1567

It is an incredibly anti-melee game in PvE

I get that melee is supposed to be a higher risk-reward but the scale is just completely off.

90% of fights in this game are a snooze-fest for ranged combat and can easily be beat by avoiding the red circles.

Melee have to not only avoid the red circles through a clusterkitten of particle effects, they must also observe the boss animations for any sort of 360 melee swings or choreographed attacks and avoid their auto attacks which sometime trigger within 0.5 seconds.

And all that while the boss randomly switches aggro targets every 5 seconds.

Totally balanced.

The biggest joke is the number of abilities that ONLY target melees and that ranged simply don’t have to worry about.

Most boss red circle abilities don’t target melee nor do most ‘randomly switch every 5 seconds’

Are we even playing the same game?

Upper middle class.
Not as boring, bland and useless as in WoW clones, but also not the EQ2/FFXI type.

How so?

You don’t even farm for materials, you farm for gold to buy the materials; you can do it all without ever leaving Lion’s Arch.

That’s as “boring, bland and useless” as in so many other MMOs. In fact, I think even WoW had a more involved crafting system, at least with regards to certain pieces, let alone some of the endgame weapons.

I never played EQ2/FFXI, so I can’t comment on them, but my reference is Asheron’s Call, where the spell component system was a more interesting use of what amount to crafting mats.

There is no end-game content.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ansultares.1567

This game isn’t about end-game.
It’s about enjoying the whole experience from exploration to crafting to even a little WvW.

The exploration is alright, and if I was interested in rolling alts maybe I could enjoy it again, but I did alot of exploration when leveling my main because I felt there was nothing to rush for (and ended missing out on alot of guild activity, which really started falling off hard around the same time I hit 80).

But the crafting? It’s the same mundane crafting I see in every other MMO; nothing about it is interesting.

Servers are filling again.

Ansultares.1567

I realize Anet must have done something to increase the cap or filtered it out or something, since the other week they all went from Full to Very High.

However, now they’re filling up again and I can’t get on the server my husband and Guild transferred to (which is Tarnished Coast). Neither can my sister-in-law.

Are these servers stuck at Full? Every time I look, it never moves from Full. Any Tarnished Coast members know what times I should be aiming for to camp the World Select screen?

Server status is based on the number of accounts tied to a server, not the number of players actively online. Even if Tarnished Coast was completely empty of players it would still read full. Shame Arenanet chose to lie about their subscriber numbers like that. : /

Not sure if serious or trolling. anet doesn’t have subscribers, and the server status do base on number of players online.

One of the community managers admitted to it being based on number of accounts. Denying the truth won’t change it. It’s probably all Arenanet can do to prevent NCsoft from shutting the game down after it failed.

Show me a link until then you’re a troll.

That’s how they managed to open up so much space on the servers; not by upgrading them, but by cleaning out inactive accounts.

so there is no chance that i could enter a full world due to the fact that it has the maximum amount of accounts tied to it?

The best advice I could offer is to check the server status during a patch; I think that’s the most likely time they’ll clear accounts. But it may be some time yet before space like what was created recently will be available again.

Also made much worse by the culling mechanic in this game.

Except you don’t need to do that. You just need to do some sort of activity that makes you enough money to buy the materials.

This is really a killer for me; everything feels so homogenized when it’s siphoned through the TP.

You farm for gold because farming for mats directly is too inefficient (and outright penalized after 30m), but then the legendary feels like 10x the grind because it’s coming entirely through a single source, the TP. So too everything else except for ascended gear, except ascended gear is its own single source grind cycling through limited fractal content (and with that awful level system; that should be fixed before the end of the month, but naturally they’ll do nothing to address it).

I would have been very impressed if legendary weapons had involved world spanning quests incorporating the achievement system even, instead of constant gold farming in order to purchase almost every mat from the TP.

1. do some the jumping puzzles/mini-dungeon (some you need to be 80, like in orr)
2. pick an achievement you want and work towards it
3. WvW
4. try to get 100% world completion

At least award me a precursor or something if I’ve effectively beaten the game.

and the economy improves by sucking more gold out of it through the sales taxes.

Explain this to me. I actually see it all tanking as more people are driven away from the game by an obscenely high barrier intended to push you to buy gems, combined with wholly unrewarding or under-rewarding content. More participants would make it healthier.

The person controlling the dusk market posted the twilight sell and buy orders to drive up dusk prices.

It’d be nice if they just actually increased pre-cursor drop rates, instead of using the Obama approach of more stimulus. These one-time payouts do nothing to address the underlying issues (and worse, in the case of the government it assures increases in future tax rates without any increase in future benefits associated with the stimulus expense, making it practically as useful as just burning the money).

It’s certainly the most dramatic distinction between Anet’s business model and a subscription based MMO. I can’t imagine any subscription based MMO being this stingy with a holiday event.

I keep reading the phrase ’shady drug dealer style scam ’ but I still have no idea what it means, or how it can apply to acquiring toys for a digital characters.

I’d say it’s more like gambling, and the more they introduce it into the game the more they invite the government in to regulate it for no other reason than that Anet couldn’t come up with something better than a slot machine, despite having so much more sophisticated tools to do so.

We were exploring at making Arcing Slice more interesting to use before the recent patch was released. At one point we added Might to the ability, but it didn’t feel good trading adrenaline (and potentially damage from traits like Berserker’s Power) for just increased damage. It looks like the skill facts were left in when we changed it back to the original state.
In the future, we’re looking at changing Arcing Slice to apply more utility and be less of a damage oriented burst ability, as the weapon has plenty of damage already and not much reason to use the burst.

Hey, practically the last ability that needs to be addressed is getting addressed ahead of anything else.
