It’s an extremely aggressive language filter.
People are not going to be requesting players have ascended gear. I will bet you anything. To assume a ‘gear treadmill’ is premature.
They will be when its mandatory for the content.
You know, because that’s the explicit purpose for the gear in the first place; to gate additional content.
Enjoy hunting down the invisible largos, and standing around waiting for Canach to never appear.
Assuming you can get around the Noll problems in the first place, that is.
1 hour ago they said on Twitter: “Hey folks, we are looking into the events that are not working. ^MK”
So I assume they’re working on the missing Noll. They said we’d be able to finish Phase 1, so I’m sure they’re working on it.
Woot, it’ll be fixed after the event is finished and the NPCs are removed.
Too frustrated to finish it. Could someone tell me the reward for the scavenger hunt?
5 Captain’s Council Commendations (and a jug of karma for completing the investigation quest).
The rewards aren’t even worth the travel costs assuming the quest chain functions perfectly, let alone the frustration engendered when they’re broken.
(edited by Ansultares.1567)
18 negative feedback threads to 1 positive one when I last looked on the FP. That’s just ludicrous.
That’s not ludicrous; it’s a perfectly legitimate response to this update.
They could have just removed the investigation quests, and given everyone the rewards for free as compensation. See, I’m being reasonable and appreciate that they couldn’t have known the quests were so terribly bugged without massively stress testing them (though they could have had an idea they’d be this bugged).
They could have just tested the stuff, and ironed out the bugs.
In their haste to implement the gear treadmill, they were totally inconsiderate of the playerbase.
No surprise there, actually.
I invited a couple and am worried about what they are actually experiencing.
You’d think someone would have thought that one through; nothing says “great game” like so many broken events.
Yes, how dare they release something with unintentional bugs?! It’s not as if they were trying to provide us with something for free.
Get some perspective.
Perspective? Like, “maybe we should delay this release awhile longer for testing, especially since a bug-ridden mess will be counterproductive to our ‘recruit a friend’ program?”
Practically every single NPC involved in the thing is bugged, broken or flat out missing.
Kitten that kitten.
(edited by Ansultares.1567)
So you haven’t actually played the event?
The “let’s focus on the worst, and assume the worst” mindset is getting a bit silly.
Bugs, everywhere.
I don’t like the new treadmill. The dungeon would be fine without introducing a gear treadmill. I haven’t even bothered with the new zone because I’m still stuck on bugs, everywhere.
There is only one thing worse than making your players bored – making them feel frustrated.
This exactly.
It’s just a bunch of people who had some weird expectation that wasn’t met and are whining because they didn’t have fun.
I ran into constant bugs. Even managed to do Noll while many found him to be bugged; still got stuck on Canach (and the largos in the other quest).
Apparently I should be running through the streets shouting praise at A.net for what, exactly? Bugged content. They can go kitten themselves. And you can, too.
(edited by Ansultares.1567)
It’s lucky for ANet that this ISN’T a subscription game. They would have flopped after halloween at the latest.
You’d probably see them pull a BWA/EA in which they hide or remove the “cancel subscription” button for a few days.
I didn’t even make it that far.
Still trying to get the kitten from yesterday to complete.
Sitting there waiting on NPCs gives me plenty of time to explore other PC titles.
They’re in the new area.
So now I can’t fight Canach?
This event man…. is it even worth bothering with this game?
Any ETA on when Fahd will actually show up?
Or am I just to be left here with my kitten in my hand.
Yeah, Fahd has vanished on my server, and the chest is no longer able to be interacted with.
I’m even more frustrated by it today than I was yesterday.
Kitten that censor is ruthless.
Like this event.
Unless the rest of the patch notes read “removed stealth, clones and all pets” I’m really disappointed.
What is not likely about WvW changing?
Chris Whiteside didn’t specify anything concrete except they have something in the works. And who is Chris Whiteside anyway? I am hysterical, because I don’t have faith in ANet and they do not want to share us their “DESIGN GOALS”.
Chris Whiteside – Studio Design Director
Let that sink in for a moment.
I don’t want to come off like I’m picking on you man, it’s certainly not just you.
So very many people on this forum are reacting exactly like you are.
You’re misinformed. You’re letting your fear of what is to come get to you based on what other people are saying.
What they are saying is not necessarily true.
90% of it is fear mongering utter bunk with no basis in the matter of fact, let alone an informed opinion.
To these I say think before you reply. Read before you react. Think for yourself.
A.nets own fault.
A clearer explanation of just what the differences will be between current Exotics and Ascended gear would have gone a long way.
The developer tidbits I’ve seen all sound like gear treadmill. Ascended gear is an obvious panic reaction to cratering player activity. It still won’t save the game; culling is the single greatest issue facing the game, and they’re doing nothing to address it (at least cull NPCs, pets and clones first; 90% of what I do end up rendering before dying to invisible enemies is NPCs, pets and clones).
And since they’re obviously going with the knee-jerk panicked reaction of implementing some sort of gear treadmill three months into release, its more than likely they’ll keep trotting out more gear treadmill the next time player activity drops, especially if this new content actually has a net positive growth rate (since obviously many players are displeased and will leave, and there’s no telling what percentage of people who have left will return to even try it, let alone to stay).
Gives those guys something to work for, a vanity item, legendaries titles, thats fine – that has no impact on me or the relative effectiveness of my gear.
Isn’t that what a legendary weapon amounts to?
First you switch from NA to EU to win, then now when you can’t win even in EU because someone beat you to your own game – you’re “switching to other games”.
Switched to other games; Ruin’s numbers have been dropping for weeks, and I can’t blame them, or Henge of Denravi for that matter.
Lets hope the new content breathes new life into the game. 24/7 battles against culled opponents is tiresome.
Is there any other tier 1 trait better for a Tanky Warrior, with a shield?
It’s not just the shield. Mace and offhand sword as well. I really want to test it out with aegis buff; it’s possible that it reflects for the entire duration the buff is active, as it does with mace and sword.
Be it bug or whatever, I have still been affected by abilities with my shield up.
I haven’t tested it, but I imagine ground target AOEs might get around it.
EDIT: Looking at the tooltip, it obviously only reflects “missiles.”
(edited by Ansultares.1567)
Currently running a +condition duration build, with 30 Strength, 25 Arms and 15 Discipline; +125% bleed duration in sword/sword, and +115% bleed duration in rifle, with +50% condition duration on all my other conditions.
It’s sufficiently more powerful than my older bleed build which I was running back in September (before trying toughness/power/precision for most of October) that I really don’t feel the same lack of effect the older (and tankier) bleed build displayed.
The older build was better for tanking dungeons (25 Arms, 30 Defense, 15 Discipline), but outside of that was relatively inferior, such that I was already actively seeking another build without any sort of benchmark to compare against.
This current build is substantially more effective in WvW, and might even run decently in sPvP or tPvP, though I’m a little hesitant to try it in the latter formats because I don’t want to part with Pain Inverter.
I know the sight of seeing getting 20+ stacks of bleed by yourself looks amazing as the enemy is just a fountain of 100s pouring out, but its still only about 2000 damage per second, fantastic against PVE mobs but against players you are far far better off for trying to squeeze in the more damage per second, even at the cost of duration.
That’s certainly something I would consider if I was to try my current build in sPvP/tPvP.
(edited by Ansultares.1567)
Sounds like you want a mace.
You can block an attack every 8 or 10 seconds.
Funny thing is, with that mace in your hand, you’ll never be the target unless you’re all alone.
It should make you invulnerable, unlike currently.
Missile Deflection; try it out.
Warrior signets (and probably all signets in general) scale ridiculously well at low levels.
I assume this is what you mean; don’t get used to it, because they’ll start dropping off quickly (especially the combination of the precision signet with the bonus precision per unused signet trait).
Also, since when does PvE count for anything? We’re so far past the point where difficulty of leveling was justification for endgame potency I can’t help but laugh at the concept. Every class can level easily; every class can excel in PvE.
That will be my only option I’m sure, fortunately I believe I have a few friend/contact Mesmers I could call on to help. Now I just have to figure out what to pay them
.
Start by narrowing down the list of vistas you need help with as much as possible.
that is the start of the mass die off of 1/8 GW2 population who are pissed off due to the constant nerfs and uselessness of thief.
Their fault for picking the class with a broken stealth mechanic.
I like my Asuran; Pain Inverter fills a nice gap in WvW, while the baseline warrior skills cover PvE.
RE: Path 1 – Cheesing the boss seems worse to me than waiting out the old patrols. Worse yet, a chosen “time out” and the accompanying social interaction is lost.
I don’t understand why.
The personal blog post linked in the OP seems totally blind to any actual issues the game has.
Bot banning and naming policy? Really? This is why I don’t bother with gaming sites. None of the writers are worth reading.
You do realize that a large portion of those ‘noobies’ are actually players who are playing on an alt.
That’s great.
Let them do the footwork of putting together a group.
Lackluster PVE content devoid of any sort of challenge or skill requirement- FIX PLS
Posted by: Ansultares.1567
I got as far as where you said you were disappointed that the game didn’t employ enrage timers.
Why can’t you just go back to WoW if what you’re looking for is WoW-style raiding?
The worst part is, with the explore run I had worked out, the wait at the start of path 1 was the most social time most of the people I ran with had encountered in the game.
It’s like they actively sought to make one of the complaints from the general discussion forum worse.
Some of these abilities have no warning and require you to quickly respond
Do I even need to point out what’s wrong with this sentence?
If a one-shot kill ability has no warning you CAN’T respond.
The only genuine 1-shot ability I’ve come across has a clearly telegraphed warning.
I’m enjoying the fact that on my warrior, I can often range tank as easily as I can facetank.
It’s also nice to see that the trinity is still effective, even if most PUGs ignore it because it’s not a mandatory requirement.
Other than those blossoms in TA, I have little to complain about regarding dungeons.
Sounds like your DPS sucks.
Are you trying to do the dungeon on-level?
I don’t even remember who this Kudu guy is, and I’ve run a kitten ton of SE. He must be from SE story, which the one time I ran it I recall it being more difficult than the explore paths.
Anyway, the dungeons are tuned for a full group of 80s. That you can enter them sub-80 almost seems cruel.
Screw the orbs, we just need shorter matches, between 24-72hrs long.
What that change, people would come back, and servers that are losing will have the next match to look forward to, while servers that are wining won’t be bored to tears.
Yeah that video is ridiculous.
Choices are to QQ about it, to reroll a thief and make it worse, or to leave the game.
The odds of A.net ever actually making meaningful changes are negligible; this wouldn’t have made it through development if there wasn’t at least one developer who not only felt this is OK, but actually fought to include it in the game.
Was GW1 this bad?
Worse than transfer snowballs is that people will just leave the game.
What does transferring even fix? You’ll just run into the same problem(s) on the next server.
What a joke.
Anyone know if Planetside 2 has stealth?
We seem to forget that someone worked on this game for years to create this exact situation. Someone designed this. It was a design decision to create one profession this totally overpowered, and all the other terrible elements of WvW.
Indeed.
And surely there’s a developer or developers who will defend this for as long as they’re working at A.net.
Been through it all before, and it never really is resolved. Awesome PvE mechanic, terrible PvP mechanic.

I am not sure what SWTOR, or it’s player base, has to do with the statement you quoted. There is content in GW2 that is clearly labeled as [GROUP] content that doesn’t require you to ever be in, or join, a group to complete. How is my stating that “silly”?
Area credit is not the issue.
That’s what’s silly; you’re blaming something that is not the cause.
There are a variety of reasons.
1) Barrens chat – some hate it, some love it; those that loved it tended to be younger kids who were unable to progress much farther than the barrens; their benchmark for what’s “normal” is totally skewed
2) voice chat – the more you’re exposed to it, the less likely you are to engage in text chat unless necessary; it’s not so much keeping your head down, as it is flagrantly ignoring others because you just don’t care
3) downward spiral – most developers saw WoW and assumed that easier gaming is more appealing; while that’s not true, what is true is that the easier the game becomes, the less you need other people, and the less likely it is you need to seek help in chat; leveling in GW2 is easy enough to solo, but in more difficult content, such as dungeons, I’ve had no problem socializing with other players
4) thick skin – I can’t be asked to respond to that guy who is LFG for the past 1hr; the longest I’ve taken to form an entirely PUG group is 15m during offpeak hours; why? because it’s easy as kittens to put together a group, provided you take charge and form the group yourself
I’m sure I can come up with several others, but outside of the diminished difficulty of content, there’s really nothing you can blame on developers, or expect of them to do.
C) automatically gives you credit for area quest participation without any need to be formally grouped.
That’s silly; SWTOR is to date the most anti-social game I’ve come across, and didn’t give area credit. I did run across countless small groups who, at their best, totally ignored people they weren’t already grouped with.
And this was supposedly a more mature MMO playerbase drawing on a population of players coming from perhaps one of the most social MMOs to date (not that I played SWG, but that’s just what I’ve heard).

GW2 "endgame" model is fine. Execution doesn't make sense tho, problem and solution.
Posted by: Ansultares.1567
Who cares if the endgame model is fine, when the endgame zones suck donkey kitten.
Thats also what i noticed, ae “blast” heals and blinds really outperform most other combo fields, especially if u stack a bunch of guardians/wars in front of a WvW door :p
Oh yay, further pigeonholed into GS.
The Ranger class can’t even stealth at all let alone appear and disappear in battle .
What are you talking about? I just saw a ranger stealth (his pet was plainly visible though).
He then turned around and started using Guardian abilities, after popping chaos armor on demand.
I’m sure it’s just the latest of hacks, but seriously…
Oh, and there’s no defense against thieves. See: World of Roguecraft.
I definitely agree. As a thief, in order to compensate for our crap defense, we SHOULD move faster than everyone else. That’s what the focus of the class is, stealth, speed & evasion.
What are you talking about, crap defense?
Was PvE really that hard while leveling? Because I’ve seen no evidence of thieves having deficient defenses in WvW. Everyone gets blown up by the zerg, so don’t even try to use that as an excuse.
I’m really disappointed that we’re totally shafted by the combo system.
Feels like every other guy I came across tonight popped chaos armor practically on demand.
You’ve picked an average class, not a kitten one.
Average = kitten.
Disappointing to see lulzy thieves who deal massive burst, can’t bee seen half the time, and have great utility for escaping. Such a burden they bear, being slightly weaker at PvE while leveling.
(edited by Ansultares.1567)
Orr needs an overhaul, simple as that. Every time I go there I find a new reason to dislike it (like thekittenskill point where I’m getting bombarded every 3s, with no way to resolve it).
Leave it to the guys who designed Frostgorge Sound; that zone is awesome.
I think devs should read this topic very thoroughly because there are same great ideas on how to attract more players to actually participate in ORR and not just complete the 100% map and never return.
That’s what I’d like to do; complete the maps and never ever come back. I just finished farming for the one piece from the only dungeon I’m interested in, and have no plans on running any more of those again, even though I’ve really enjoyed dungeon crawling in other MMOs.
Seems like totally wasted content to me.
(edited by Ansultares.1567)
I use Crests of the Rabid on my trinkets.
I’d use jewels, but I haven’t found any that offer the stats I’m looking for.
then don’t do them
A difficult concept for some.
“If you take the time to talk to the heart quest giver, they’ll fill in all the blanks about why you’re doing what you’re doing.”
sadly it’s not quite that simple, once the immersion is broken it is very hard to re-establish it, especially with such basic quest giver dialogue.
Go (back) to SWTOR?
My favorite questing of all time was vanilla WoW, but it wasn’t really immersive until I used thottbot/alakhazam to supplement the quest dialogue with all the additional story, lore, and behind-the-scenes info those type of resources contain.
I guess I’m just more willing to immerse myself; I attribute that to excessive sci-fi/fantasy reading as a kid. That is to say, I don’t mind not having the story handed to me as if this was television.
As far as I know, my class has nothing to generate a combo field.
The whole mechanic seems a little underdeveloped.
im not sure if people posting here actually play the game
They do.
They just all play thieves.
Thief.
Who wouldn’t want to play a class that by default is intended to two shot its targets, while using stealth to prevent them from even knowing the attack is coming?
They’re even useful outside of 1v1 thanks to that pull.
Though I suppose if all you do is WvW and run around with the zerg, there are some better choices, but that’s an extremely limited playstyle.
