Playing for the inflationary compensation

Hi, I’m the casual you mentioned, 2-3 hours per day, doing some dungones and fractals… and I can say that 5-6g per day is a very very very optimistic view… I’m going for Twilight, I have almost finished everything except for Dusk, just yesterday got my 100th onyx lodestone. I just need some more ectos, some T6 mats for the gift of magic, and the gold for the icy runestones.

I’m obviusly concerned about the precursor. I got about 100 gold some time ago, most of it was used for the 77 clovers. I think I have something between 40-50 gold now, after 5 months playing. So if I assume that I can make roughly 50 gold/month, the precursor seems impossible to buy.

On the other hand, I have the Mystic forge. In these 5 months, I got 8 rare GS that I dropped in the MF, I got 1 exo GS and another rare GS from them. I’ve been able to save 4 Exo GS (I’m using two of them, so I cannot dump them on the MF yet), and 2 rare GS. For same reason, I cannot get GS dropped from anywhere, so I will have to stick to GS from dungeon tokens or drops. I had enough of randomnes while crafting the clovers, so I won’t focus on the MF for Dusk… I will use it if it happens that somehow I got 4 GS of the same type, or if I can find a specific recipe with a higher chance to produce a precursor.

So, this looks impossible, but since I’m still having fun with the game, I’ll keep playing and trying to get my legendary. I may give up in the future, but at the rate these guys produces new content, I highly doubt so. If you play only for the legendary, the hardest item to get in the game, then you will just burnout.

Now, regarding the inflation, I will use exactly the same method as many used before in GW1. Since I don’t really need gold, except for the icy runestones, I’ll invest it in items whose value increases over time. Ectos, Cores and Lodestones; it’s as easy as that. No need to play the TP, or grind; just play and enjoy.

I beleive the ones in Orr count for the Zhaitan slayer tracker, as any other raisen creature.

You can find one in the Harathi Hinterlands, in a cave. It is a champion called Kol, and it takes a lot of people to bring it down.

There is another giant in Diessa that occasionally attacks an outpost there.

Eventually, you will learn how to avoid death most of the times. This is a good way for making people learn the mechanics of each dungeon… you learn or you die. Just think about AC, at the begining it took hours to complete, people was complaining about every single path… Then it evolved and people were only complaining about path 3… and now you can have speed runs for the 3 paths in less than one hour without people dying.

The one in the Stonemist Castle in the Eternal Battlegrounds WvWvW map is also very impressive.

As a side note, completing the event is just a matter of minutes, and it will give you money, karma and experience. I think that is fact is usually “ignored” because people just got used to the Gold medal on the top right corner…

Also, if you are grouping in Lion’s Arch, you will see everything contested because you are in an overflow server. If you walk to any of the maps outside Lion’s arch, you will go back to your server, and then you will be able to see the real Waypoints. The one for CoF shouldn’t take more than 5-10 minutes to be uncontested.

I never got exotics or rares from Dragon chests. I got an exotic from a chest in one of LA’s jumping puzzles, though. I personally don’t like to farm Dragon events, since just the cost of travel there and back is more than then the benefit for killing them. I like those events for the mechanics and the fun of playing it, but I only join them if I happen to be in the area.

Actually I found this post on gw2guru from Linsey Murdock: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/arenanet-tracker/topic/239315-official-response-drop-rate-of-legendary-precursors/#16

There is something here that got my attention, these two setences: “We did fix a few bugged recipes that were rewarding Legendary precursors more often than they should have been” and “The recipes for throwing in level 80 exotics have not changed at all”.

If you pay attention to the last one, it means that there are different recipes for level 80 exotics, then some level 80 exotics may have a better chance than others.

Precusors fixed recipe?

Apolyon.6937

I’ve tried to search about this, but there are so many topics about precursors that seems impossible to find something.

Is there any confirmation about precursors being available only as very rare drops or random results in the Mystic Forge?

As far as I know, there are some recipes in the Mystic Forge that always produce the same result (Mystic Weapons for example). Now if you look at the process for creating a Legendary, there is already a component that requires you gambling on the MF, the Mystic Clovers. So why limit the precursors to very rare drops or, again, gambling on the MF? Is it possible that there are some fixed recipes that produce a Precursor but nobody have found them yet?

I remember that there were hints somewhere in the world telling how to create legendaries. I think I have never found any, or I didn’t knew it was a hint, but maybe they exist and are the key for creating precursors…

I do also have a Razer Naga, and a Logitech G13. That definitely makes my life easier. Before having them, I mapped almost everything to the keys around qwes. I replaced A and D with skills, changed the swapping weapon to the mouse, and lots of other changes, so basically you can start with QWES for strafing, move forward, backward, and the start playing with the others. Keys 1 to 5 are near your fingers, so from 6 to 9 can be remapped; 0 has a large cooldown, so you won’t be using it a lot. Jumping and F are used a lot, so you want them very accesible. Select Nearest Target and Next target are used a lot, so you also want them near your fingers. Then play a lot until you get used to your new configuration.

Next gw2 Expansion Class?

Apolyon.6937

For races I’d love to have a Tengu and a Largos. I want to learn more about the Largos, they look totally awesome to me.

And for classes, I want the Dervish back! Just think about their /dance animation from GW1 converted into an Elite skill with scythes all around…

Another class that I loved to see, and no laughs here, is a Super Saiyan! Well, it doesn’t have to be named like that, but imagine something like a Melee Mesmer, which becomes faster (with clone like abilities) and stronger (more power and defense) the more hits he receives and the lower his health bar is, and the profession mechanic would to convert into a Super Saiyan , something like Death Shroud from Necromancers mixed with Adrenaline from Warriors. And to recover from downed state, the other party members have to look for the 7 magic dragon balls and… ok, forget about this last part :p

Another class that I would like to see is a support/control oriented class that can play with the environment. Creating walls, or allowing allies to walk through walls, removing light sources in an area like the EB JP where you have to go with a torch, changing the gravity… This may be asking too much, but it would create lots of new ways for playing the game. Obviusly the whole “walk through walls” thing would need to be limited in WvWvW.

Do not worry too much about that. You are probably looking at legendary weapons or precursors (exotic weapons required for crafting legendaries). There are other ways for dressing your toon, you can use karma to buy exotic lvl 80 armor from some karma vendors on the latest maps, and you can also run dungeons for tokens (you always get tokens from dungeons) than can trade for weapons and armor. And obviously you can craft your own weapons and armors using the crafting professions.

If you are not looking for a Legendary, money won’t be an issue.

Just remember that Legendary weapons are a long term goal. Don’t try to rush them… I know that playing the TP is the fastest way for making money, but it is not the only way. I don’t like to spend hours on the TP, so I’m not doing it. I’m playing normally and leveling my alts, and I already got more than half of the materials required for Twilight.

Most of the complains about legendaries are just from people rushing it… People that think that WvW badges are only available in the Jumping Puzzle, people that think that the market is being manipulated because some stuff (lodestones?) is expensive…

Just play the game as you can enjoy it the most… the legendary will eventually be there… and remember that if you want to grind, is it you who decided to do it, not the game forcing you because you want to get a legendary in a week.

Apolyon.6937

But Speed Clears were based in 1 single skill, if you remember in GW1 when the people started abusing Shadow Form there were also many people complaining because it become harder to form groups for “normal” playing, and everybody wanted to rush for their ectos/obsis for the Obsidian Armor.

If you want that kind of team composition, we have the same tools in GW2, look for example at the Dredge Fractal, where the team have to split before accesing the chamber with control panel…

So yes, the actual Dungeons doesn’t have that feeling, but this was also the case at the beginning with FoW and UW, it was later when the players decided to play it that way. And eventually, ANet may be able to add more content that can be played like that, with different members of the team doing different tasks.

The only difference is that in FoW and UW you could complete the tasks in any order you like (or many of them at the same time doing Speed Clears), and the current dungeons follow a path where you get rewarded with boss chests. Eventually, when the human gods come back to Tyria (maybe in future expansion) we will be able to enter FoW and UW again

Is it only GW1 players that find GW2 boring?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Apolyon.6937

Apolyon.6937

GW1 player here, 7 years playing the original one, both PvP and PvE. I love GW2, I’m playing every day and having fun. I have two characters at 80, and leveling my 3rd now.

I’m still trying to complete all the dungeons, trying to get a legendary weapon (twilight), leveling all the crafting professions, finding all the jumping puzzles, leveling all the other characters (8 slots, one for each profession), learning the personal history for every race, collecting all the dungeon and race armors.

WvWvW is awesome, I play it just for fun, but may be interested in becoming Commander in the future to play with all my guilds together. If I ever get bored of PvEing, I will spend my time here for sure. I know that there are some serious culling issues, but I’m the type that likes to go in 5 man parties cover ops taking supply camps when the timer is about to reach 0

PvP is the only dissapointment I had so far. I got rank 12 or 13 back in September I haven’t played again. I miss a format like we had in GW1 with the Tomb of Primeval Kings, tournament like with different maps and different objectives. The tournaments now are limited to hold the base, which I personally find the lest attractive of all… my favorite was running relics, or hold the base but with 3 different teams which allowed weakest teams to play. Also, there are no rewards in PvP that I’m interested, as skins are random I won’t even bother trying the mystic toilet for getting them. In GW1 at least we had the Celestial Sigil, which was worth 100 gold coins back in the day, or rare weapons and minis when the chest was changed. I haven’t got a Mini Ghostly Hero, though

So, summary for me is that this game is awesome, and it can be even better.

I agree with the OP in one thing… I miss Gwen I’d love to have my Gwen mini’s from GW1 here

I’ve been playing since the betas, and pre-purchased the game, and I’m still in love with it. Just to mention a few of my favorite things.

You can get to level 80 and get the best armour/weapons without having to grind.
Dynamic Events. All of them, and specially event chains.
All the dynamic combat, jumping, dodging, hiding.
Leveling alts is fun, you get new story lines, new friends…
The first time you finish a dungeon path without dying.
You can’t find two people wearing the same stuff.
Asuras jumping! And Charrs running!
The human dance… epic!
You can customize the in-game music! I want this feature in all the games!
Mad King Thorn LOL
Jumping puzzles… this is pure genious, whoever decided to make them, congrats!
Dungeon tokens. Every time you run a dungeon, you get something useful!
WvWvW, all of it.
Sunrise and Twilight.
Fear not this night.
Lion’s Arch… built of wrecked ships…
Monthly updates for free.

And the list could go on and on and on…

I noticed this issue when doing the fractals boss and you have to pick up the crystals to absorb the ray attack. This happens ocassionaly, but it is pretty common.

If I’m moving in any direction and I press F for picking up something from the floor, my character will keep moving in the direction it was moving without picking up the object. It will keep moving even if I’m not pressing any button.

At the beginning I thought it was caused by lag, but lately I’ve seen other people with the same problem, specially during the final boss fight in the fractals. Now I just stop moving before pressing F, and then start running again, and never had this problem again.

Recipe for 1. In theory they both have a 33% chance… but just in theory… I spent more than 290 ectos/obsis/coins to get the 77 clovers. And remember that the recipe has a chance to drop ectos, obsis and mystic coins.

By doing WvWvW you will probably get all the karma and skill points you need, and badges as well.

Also, aim for the gift of metal, and as soon as you can complete it, start crafting rare axes so you can get more ectos.

Eventually you will get stuck with onyx lodestones and the precursor. For the precursor I’m waiting for the scavenger hunt. For the lodestones, I’m reciting some mantras every day, and the next logical step is to sell my soul… I got 9 lodestones in 4 months… so probably I’ll get the other 91 in 3 or 4 years.

Good luck!

It’s funny how Arenanet promoted their game as a ‘not grinding’ MMO, infact I never grinded so much in an MMO. This game is just not rewarding enough. It’s frustrating that nice items require always a full stack and that those materials have an extreme low droprate. Aswell most mobs that don’t drop anything when beining killed.

You are the one who decided to grind for the Legendary. They said that you don’t have to grind for getting your max armor/weapon, which is true. If you want to grind for the legendary is your own decision. I’ll have mine playing normally… if I can have mine for next summer, that’s perfect for me; and if I cannot, then I’ll try again for next winter. I don’t want to grind, so I’m not doing it.

In my view Legendaries should be account bound not sellable + SB

in Crafting

Posted by: Apolyon.6937

Apolyon.6937

The main bottleneck is the money, not the shards… 120 gold for the recipes+icy runestones. Another 100 gold for the lodestones, 200-400 gold for the precursor, and then a random amount of money for t6 materials. The shards are bought with karma, and you get loads of karma doing WvWvW.

I’d just wish that WvWvW was profitable… or that you could get t6 mats and lodestones.

Apart from that, I don’t see any reason why somebody would pay for a legendary that was more expensive than buying the materials and crafting it yourself… and if the legandary is cheaper, then the seller wouldn’t make any profit… so why would you bother on sellilng it?

Official Response: Drop Rate of Legendary Precursors

in Crafting

Apolyon.6937

I’m going for a legendary, and my game time is very reduced. I only play during week days, and occasionally on weekends as well, and no more than 3 hours/day. So this is my advice for people like me:

1- Do not ever use the mystic forge. It’s only purpose is for getting the mystic clovers. Period. Gambling here is just a waste of money, and getting money is extremely slow.
2- Sell everything profitable in the trading house, if you can get 1 more copper coin in the TH than in the normal merchant, then use the TH (pay attention to taxes!!!).
3- Do not waste materials on building an exotic armor/weapon, save them for the legendary and go with rare instead, the difference is really low, and you can still get exotic armors/weapons by grinding dungeons.
4- Always compare whats better, sell rares on the TH or get ectos from them. Assume that you will get 1 ecto from each rare and then compare the prices.
5- Sell all the exotics (there is chance that monsters or dungeon chests can drop an exotic! It’s extremely rare, but it is possible).
6- Always go for the mystic clovers first, since they drop randomly from the mystic forge, you will want to get them first so you have a clearer view of what mats you need after getting them. I’m trying to get 70 using the recipe for 10, and then 7 using the recipe for 1, but I’m finding that the recipe for 10 may have a worst drop rate based on comments found on the Wiki. So far, I tried 14 times with the recipe of 10, and only got 40 clovers (28,5% chance for the recipe of 10 as per my experience). There is a chance that you get useful mats from this recipe as well, like orichalcum, ectos or obsi.
7- Try to level up multiple characters to 80, so you can get more level 400 mats. If possible, level them up in wvwvw so you can get some badges.
8- Level up only the professions required for your legendary. Don’t waste mats/money on the others.
9- Magic Find doesn’t work, just try find out in what maps and dungeons you have a better chance of getting rares and grind them. For example I get loads of rares in Straits of Devastation, but I get nothing from Cursed Shore; the same with dungeons, I’m more lucky in Twilight Arbor and Crucible of Eternity. Fractals of the Mist is a good choice as well, except for the stupid levels that makes impossible to find a group of your same level, not to mention that the level is per character, not per account… (I’m still level 5 so my drop there is not that good).
10- Finally, remember that these are LEGENDARY, so be patient! It took me 2,5 years to get my FoW Armor in GW1, and that was way harder than getting a legendary here. I expect to get mine during next summer, based on my weekly income (around 8-10 gold/week when farming and 2-4 gold/week when playing normally or doing wvwvw… and if I’m on holidays, like this last week, ).

So there you go, my two cents… obviusly if you can play more time, these suggestions may not apply… Also, about point 9, I know that magic find do work, but the base is probably so low, that even having +400% change wouldn’t make much of a difference; the thing is just that I found that for me, it is easier to get rares depending on the map that I’m grinding events, than on my magic find increase.

Also, I try to play wvwvw whenever possible, but due to the queues and my reduced play time that’s not always possible. If you can play it, then do it, because it is a great source of karma (and obviously badges).
