I do like them, a lot. I spent lots of time in the character creation screen, customizing their faces. I have all the classes and all the races. At some point I decided to update the looks of my female mesmer norn, because she was looking very childish, so I change it a more mature one. She is gorgeous now!

Rewards based on effort and/or ability

I just want to bring back the attention to one of the best features that GW2 has to offer: the dungeon tokens.

These are actually the only rewards in the game that can be achieved through effort. This was made as a solution to problems in other MMO’s like ninjas, griefing, and poor rewards for completing “difficult” content.

Given you put enough effort to learn to play in a dungeon, with time, you will get exactly the rewards you want. This will also make you a better player, since you have to go through the difficult dungeons (ok, except for CoF path 1) and eventually master them, do them faster, do them better (harder, stronger :P ).

But what we have now are just random randomness at rare chances. Get a ticket from a coffer, waste your items in the Mystic Forge… This has nothing to do with effort nor ability, this is just pure luck… as any other MMO had before…

I’m not asking to remove all these content, I just want to have more options. The dungeon tokens have not had any change since ever, still the same armors and weapons since August last year, so why not improve them and add more rewards like this?

After 11 months playing I got three premium items, the Arah set for my guardian, Twilight for my mesmer, and a T3 human cultural armor for my thief. Twilight was such a torment that I will never think about crafting another legendary again, the T3 cultural amor was all the money that I saved in these 11 months, so I’m quite proud of it… but the Arah set is what really makes me feel great, I went through all those four paths and defeated all of them, I crushed lupicus and simin… and I want more rewards that makes me feel like that again.

I even have a recommendation on where to start… Fractal skins… Put those Pristine Fractal Relics and Shards to good use…

So that’s my suggestion… more rewards based on effort.

It is too hard to earn gold - A serious post

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Apolyon.6937

Apolyon.6937

I think the OP is right in a sense. Making gold in the game is hard. Specially if you enjoy playing the game, and not farming or playing the BLTC. I just can’t see myself login in just to do CoF1 runs and some world bosses.

But it is also true that you can get lots of stuff without gold… you can get exotic level 80 armors and weapons from karma, dungeon tokens, WvWvW tokens. And some of them have awesome skins as well.

The problem here, in my opinion, is that for all the premium stuff, there are no ways to acquire them other than being a lucker or having tons of money.

4 Weeks Price Reduction > Good Dungeon?

in Cutthroat Politics

Since I don’t know how those fractals will look like, I’ll vote for the price reduction in waypoints. I have 17 gold available right now, and I’m spending money only in waypoints and repairs, so this is perfectly fine for me.

Lore wise, both fractals look promising. We already know that Abaddon was defeated, so this will be a fractal about the details of how he was defeated. We don’t know what happened in the Thaumanova Reactor, so we will get to expand the existing lore about Asuras and chaos magic. I will be happy with any of them.

sPvP-Why is it Unpopular?

Just for the sake of sharing, here are my thoughts about it:

  • Battles are way too fast. Almost no strategy at all, just do your skill rotation, and repeat.
  • No build diversity. Metagame has barely changed since September.
  • Only one type of map. Different flavours, but in the end is always the same.
  • It is not Guild oriented. There is no prestige from being in a PvP guild. And there is no GvG (but this has its own point).
  • Rewards. Rank can be train-farmed so its useless, skins are completely random.
  • GvG.
  • GvG again.
  • More GvG.

And that’s it for me…

For me it depends on your skill. I can probably kill a bad player with anything I want. And a very experienced player can probably kill me with anything he/she wants.

I mainly play mesmer and guardian, and I can mop the floor with thieves and warriors, on the other hand eles and necros give me a hard time.

Ocassionally I also play with a thief, sword/dagger and s.bow, and I aim for the scared ones on the backline… I don’t play with stealth, but with dodge skills and it is very easy to tell if they are good or bad players.

In any case, that’s for the demon described in the Apocalypse, Revelation 9:11. This does not mean that the Abaddon in GW is the same as in the bible… In GW1 it has always been named Abaddon.

Feedback on the new dungeon.

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Posted by: Apolyon.6937

Apolyon.6937

I like the dungeon, it took us a few tries until we realized how to make it through. Frizz was really nice, it forces players to focus on movement, combat and environment all at the same time. Mai Trin on the other side was too long or too monotonous; once you find out how to get rid of her shield you just have to repeat the same barrage after barrage… maybe having barrages at 66% and 33% instead of 75-50-25% would make it feel less tedious, or maybe adding different mechanics at 50% and 25% so you have to learn something new would make it more enjoyable.

Also, one of the key points for me, is that this dungeon requires team cooperation. I wish that future content goes in this direction.

As a bad point, rewards are not worth it, again. Tokens for new weapons somebody?

Why is everybody complaining about RNG?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Apolyon.6937

Apolyon.6937

Too Long/Didn’t Read at the end

I think that it is because RNG is not something that you can actively work on, and this works against the RPG part of the game. Take for example molten weapons, what effort do you have to put to get one? None. In my guild, a guy got 1 ticket on the first BL chest, and he opened it because he got a key, he was not even looking for it. At the same time, another guildie was looking for the backpack, repeating the dungeon every day, and she got nothing. Not even the money to buy one. In this case, RNG is unfair because it doesn’t matter the effort you put into something, you cannot work towards a goal because there are no goals to begin with (Open X number of Chests is not a goal, and you cannot get this done by just playing).

Another example from my guild, I was working on Twilight, and got Dawn from the Mystic Forge in less than 15 tries. Traded it for Dusk, and completed Twilight. I spent less than 200 gold to buildit. Another guildie was also working on his Twilight, throwing everything at the MF, farming all the world chest events, farming Orr… in the end he spent 600 gold on Dusk, plus I don’t know how much on materials… He had to put way more effort than I did, and it took him two more months to complete his legendary.

The problem here is, again, that you cannot work towards a goal, because you don’t know where to get an item (precursor – random drop from anywhere in the world, or random drop from the MF, both with a ridiculously low probability).

I will compare this with GW1, just to have another point of view. There were no precursors in GW1, instead we had green items or very rare weapons. The green items were Best In Slot items and they were mainly dropped by bosses, so if you want one of those items, you have to make your way to the boss and kill him, some were easiers than others, but at least you know how to get them. Other rare weapons were usually found in specific dungeons or elite missions (FoW, Underworld, DoA), for example, if you want an Obsidian Sword, you know that it may drop in the FoW chest. In this case, this had two effects, first is that you know where to go if you want something; second is that you get those items by playing the game, and making yourself a better player because you get to know what you are doing, and you find ways to do it faster and better.

Now go back to GW2, the only thing that we can actively work on, are the dungeon tokens (for armours and weapons), but to be honest, dungeons are only difficult the first time you play them, or not even difficult at all (CoF path 1, I’m looking at you). Anything else requires lots (and lots and lots) of money, or pure luck. And the worst part of this, is that to make money, you don’t even have to play the game… or to be more accurate; and this is purely my opinion, so feel free to disagree; if you want to be rich, you only need to play the market. The people who play the game and go leveling characters, and watching all the story threads, and explore the maps are at a disadvantage to those who only flip items in the market. I did this a few times when I was working on my legendary, I made something around 25 gold by just flipping magic wands during christmas. And honestly, that is just sad.

So in the end…

TL/DR: The problem is not just RNG, but the lack of active goals, or ways to achieve something by playing the game. Apart from dungeon tokens and Ascended Rings, nothing has been added that can be obtained by playing the game.

How can you combat macros?

in PvP

Posted by: Apolyon.6937

Apolyon.6937

I think I may have a hint on why some people think that others use macros, or hacks. Mainly it is because of the instant skills, those that do not interrupt the casting time of other skills.

For example, a dual dagger thief can press 5 (the attack that makes it invisible after hitting) from a long distance, and then press F1 to teleport to the target. Since F1 is an instant skill, it will not interrupt the skill 5 from the daggers, so it will teleport, and inmediatly finish the attack and become stealthed.

This may look like the thief was using something to speed up his attack, but it is simply that the attack started way before the thief was even close to you.

Also, rather than positive, macroing should have a negative impact in sPvP, since you need to adapt and change all the time. And even if you have a combo that you can convert into a macro, you still need to wait for each skill to finish, before using a new one, and this can be one perfectly fine with your own hands.

The only thing that I can think off that may be seen as a macro, is those thiefs that go 2222222222 in circles around the map. You can even watch a film while doing that LOL

Mystic Forging 4 Legendaries=End of Tyria?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Apolyon.6937

You will free Zommoros from its cage, but you will have to take his place. Now when you are playing, you will ocasionally receive 4 items from random players, and you will have to give them something back from the following list:

A picture of an exotic item that it is perfect for their build. Only the picture, not the item.
A green item that they cannot use. Greatswords for Eles, medium armour for Guardians…
A white item that cannot be salvaged, nor destroyed, and is sould bound.
A XBOX One.
A compilation with all the Quaggan songs. Swimming, swimming, swimming…

Then you have to sell the 4 items and give the money to Zommoros, because he will be building a replica of Caudecus’ mannor in Southsun, and needs some cash…

Anyone else feel that the RNG is not random?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Apolyon.6937

Well, you can throw a dice ten times and get a 6 all the time… that’s still random ^^ That being said, it is true that some items love to be in my hands… like the fiber splice from CoE, or Adelbern’s ring from fractals… Fractal skins are still a mistery, never seen one :p

I also had a few of those drops that are exactly the same, from world bosses, fractal chests or even jp chests… so it may not be that rare.
