It has been many months since the game was in Beta and subsequent launch, yet throughout that time one of the most requested and useful features for players, and in particular Guild Leaders, is still not in the game…

Now with this update that Guilds have been a huge part of, I seriously think that the devs are refusing on purpose to give us this very small feature that would make a huge amount of difference for GLs. Argument also includes the Friends List.

GW1 had it, so why does an apparently superior in every way game lack such basics?

Have they given us any kind of explanation as to why they have chosen not to add it?

Please, if reading this and want to help this feature get noticed, then leave a post, doesn’t have to be long.

Piken Square News - The Good Times are Over

Arcanorum Ignis.9218

Good riddance.

Seriously, if all of these guilds decide to pack up and leave for greener pastures just like that then why would we want them to stay? Shows how much of a kitten the really gave about the server and community.

Losing RG is hardly a loss at all, if anything it is a bonus. The ripping on RPers, telling people to leave certain areas just so they can get their own guys on, mindless zergs and little respect for the community as a whole are things I will not miss. They left once before and we did just fine.

All we have now is a cleaner slate on which to rebuild and a better idea of who to rebuild it with.

Chrono is not trying to troll or doomsay with this thread, merely presenting what is happening to those who would otherwise be ill-informed. The collection of big/powerful guilds that created this ‘WvW powerhouse’ notion are what attracted the band-wagoners, and are ultimately their own undoing. (See Blacktide)

TBH this thread is not really good or bad, just pointless. The same people are just going to jump from world to world, and the same problems will follow them. Piken has run its course, and who knows, maybe we will be all fighting on the same side again some time in the future.

I for one look forward to dropping a few tiers to regain our composure.

They can also be used in WvW, which lets people bring PvE benefits into WvW. They ought to be unusable there like most other PvE obtained items.

Some worthwhile mini-games in each city (perhaps with minor rewards) would certainly bring people back to them.

There is that ‘Shooting range’ thing in DR, but the girl at the counter keeps saying ‘Sorry, someone else is playing, come back later’ and has been since launch.

The Black Citadel has The Bane, which is such a wasted opportunity to make a player dueling arena. It has no use at present.

The beer keg toss thing in Hoelbrak rarely has anybody playing it. They could easily make that huge frozen lake into some kind of game with an environmental effect that makes you slide about.

Rata Sum has that blocked off Polymock arena just to the north east.

I’m not sure about The Grove.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Arcanorum Ignis.9218

Arcanorum Ignis.9218

Dueling will not be in the game. Anet COULD put it in if they want to. However they are making this game how they believe it should be made and don’t care what you think even though it’s logical/beneficial for the game. I’ve been following Anet since the release of GW1 and whilst they make good games they are also a notoriously stubborn bunch.

Edit: They could add in an option to automatically reject any duel requests but of course Anet doesn’t believe dueling should be in the game…

Do you have a source for this? Because I heard it was on their to do list. Not their immediate list, but eventually.

Do you have a source to verify that it is on their to do list?

Is it really hard to add dueling?
No.
ANet are just lazy, incompetent and/or ignorant and have little interest in the wants of their customers. They are giving us content that they want us to have instead of what we want.

Dueling has got to be the single most frequent request I see for this game, yet it is nowhere to be seen.

There was even a dueling arena in Lion’s Arch. You see that big circle outside on the ground outside of the Vigil Centerhouse that the asura gates are positioned along the edge of? One of the nearby NPCs (a charr I think) says that that used to be a dueling arena.

Sucks major balls that a guild needs to start from scratch. I guess it is to deter world-hopping guilds, but it still happens anyway.

A ‘Change guild home world’ feature would be cool, perhaps can only be used once a month or whenever, and requires a payment of influence or money.

But there are higher chances of aliens landing tomorrow than there are of anything like that happening.

Is Anet upgrading the Guild System?

Probably not.

This has been one of the single biggest requests from players, particularly GMs, and given that the game has been out now for however long and we still don’t have it makes me think it is never going to happen.

The fact that GW1 had this mindlessly simple feature makes it all the more annoying.

Guild Capes & Alliances

Arcanorum Ignis.9218

Guild Capes
While I loved them in GW1, looking back now I think they look really cheesy and gimmicky. Apart from advertising your guild, they didn’t really do anything or feel special.
The guild items in GW2 I think are better as they cost money which, what with with the multi-guild system, allows you to show which guild you are most supporting of. You are not going to spend your hard earned on guild items for a guild you don’t like that much are you?
Yes the guild armour does look like crap, but that can be changed or new styles added.

Alliances
Alliances came to GW1 with the addition of Factions, of which the Luxon/Kurzick war was a central part of. Guilds would chose which side to fight for and then be able to ally themselves with other guilds of the same faction.
But now we have WvW which is meant to be its successor, replacing Luxons and Kurzicks with other Worlds. Essentially, all the guilds on your entire home world is meant to be considered your ‘Alliance’.

So... When are Guild Wars coming?

Arcanorum Ignis.9218

So… When are Guild Wars coming?

Short answer, never.

I remember buying the original ‘Guild Wars’ with the premise of the game being centred around actual guilds at war, to which I was largely disappointed by the absence of.

But that’s not to say that guilds as a whole were pointless.
Oh no, guilds in GW1 had a sense of meaning and purpose, a reason for them to exist and for you to join one.
When you found the right guild for yourself, they often became your online family.
The closest things to ‘Guild Wars’ back then were GvG battles with rankings/leaderboards and Alliance Battles, which I guess turned out to be adequate substitutes.

I understand that open Guild PvP would bring a degree of negativity towards other guilds and there would be some political mud-slinging on each server, but this happened with GW: Factions with the Kurzicks vs Suxons and it gave you an purposeful enemy to fight against and allies to fight with.

In GW2 however…
The fact that groups just spontaneously appear for events, and there is not much to do that requires an organised team makes having a guild for the sake of PvE content redundant.
WvW? Yes guilds can capture forts and whatnot, but what is the point when that place drains a guilds money and influence yet gives no apparent benefit apart from displaying the guild banner, then only to be lost soon after? And all that is assuming you’re on a world that does a lot of WvW, some worlds hardly bother with it.
IMO, WvW is just a big gimmick/mini-game money sink.

The multi-guild system at first sounded great on paper… but then so does communism.
What multi-guilding in effect does is fractures a guild community. Many players see no reason to be loyal and become an ‘associate’ of many guilds but a true member of none.

One of our major goals with these releases is making our existing world as strong as possible, ensuring there are reasons to go to all the locations in the world we’ve already built, and strengthening the core game we’ve provided.

Fractals lore1-ascalon seige and raving asura

in Lore

Posted by: Arcanorum Ignis.9218

Arcanorum Ignis.9218

The Great Northern Wall is visible in that Fractal (see attached image), but it is also in its ruin-like state, suggesting that The Searing has already taken place.

Assuming that the map orientation of this area is wrong, the Charr are in fact attacking Southwards, meaning that they and the defending city are South of the GNW.
Now from what those of us who know what Ascalon City originally looked like in GW1 and what a GW2 rendition of the same place might look like, we can safely say this is not Ascalon City.

I highly suspect this Fractal (assuming it is based on historical events, past or future) to be of the Charr attack on the city of Rin, and that the great disturbance mentioned by Dessa is Rurik arriving with Stormcaller, about to devastate the invading Charr.

The lore in the FotM dungeon is non-existent, except for the Siege on Ascalon as Charr, which is also poorly explained by the fractal for anyone who doesn’t know the backstory. In my opinion it is the worst dungeon lore wise as it adds nothing to the story. Like D3 killing hordes of monsters endlessly comes first, while writing and story take a back seat. It’s fun to do a few times, but I don’t think it adds anything to the GW 2 universe… yet.

There would be little to stop a “play-to-win” guild from buying many accounts, placing them on your server and have them voting for their own account commanders. To list all the ways this could be exploited would take me a long time.

“play-to-win” or “pay-to-win”?
Assuming you meant the latter, if you think that they would buy that many accounts (more accounts than the normal WvW player population) just for the sake of voting for who they want their Commander to be, you are deluded.

So… the people that multi-box, now instead of simply botting to make easy money, they can influence the rally icons on the map? No thanks. I would rather the capital democracy where people can fundraise for icons now, then the easily exploitable one with a voting system. Heaven forbid, you get 6 commanders that are bots and new commanders can’t get on the screen or have squads formed.

Influence the rally icons on the map? What do you mean? How can that help botters?

Bots won’t overtake the rest of the player population, so they will not be able to occupy all Commander slots, if any. Also you seem to be forgetting that WvW is an open PvP zone, they would get hunted, hence why there are no bots here at present.
