Well that’s your problem if you refuse to acknowledge that numbers plays the largest role in determining who wins or loses a match. The fact is your analogy is bad exactly because of that. In sports you don’t play lopsided teams, and if you do – there certainly wouldn’t be any pride in beating the team with fewer players as everyone knows they were severely handi-capped. Even in a game like COD, which you also used, a DeathMatch that is 5vs10 is not something the team having 10 people would brag about, it is not something to be “proud” over.

You talk so much about fairness & handicap that I’m overwhelmed, you’re 100% convinced that roaming in WvW is such a fair game…. seriously you should move to sPVP where you don’t have so many tangents, have a look into context next time…

1) ^ Upleveled fellas
2) Ascended jewelry
3) Food
4) Oil, Stones and Crystals
5) WvW Skills (especially guards last buff p/v)
6) Armor/Build (not everyone runs under 1v1 build)
7) Terrain (spvp works amazingly better when it comes to covering terrain with jump & teleport skills)
8) Current Context (This my favorite, you think everyone is ready to 1v1 against you? for real? in spvp you have a better idea of what it’s going but once the match is ready, you know everyone is ready to cast ALL their skills, people could have a lot of skills under CD in WvW)
(Extra) Zergs barely pay attention to small squads if you happen to call their attention it’s mostly because of context, I remember someone posted pics of getting ganked by 20+ against a small squad, do you even know why so many people are there in the 1st place?, obviously it’s gotta be because you guys are there!…. get my ego point now?

A few hours ago our server owned all the map, now it looks like SBI and NSP are taking it back slowly, a lot of people do care about score.

To those who said WvW is for roaming… please, that is just laughable.

It’s the worst place to have real 1v1 matches.

Yes we run 10 bunker spec groups. We choose our teams from the 199 people in the guild we have on at any given time. We also spend all of our spare time flash building superior balistas in the open feild. If you don’t have the + supply traits you can not group with us. If you dont have ++++ to siege you can not group with us, if you don’t have 3k armor and 28k hps you cannot group with us. We only pvdoor, we see real PvP we hide and man the arrowcarts. We use 3 groups at times for super tough yaks. If we get frisky we really push the limits and attempt to bind our keys and play without clicking.

Chris’s video shows nothing more then stacking up and mashing Aoe’s inside of mobs of red. Not caring what the situation is or reacting to nothing, just MASH MASH MASH.

Im not even sure i understand how people play this way. I like to read and react to people trying to use different builds and strategy’s in a smaller scale setting.

I once spent 10 min in a fight against D/P with my D/D then I got bored and left lol

I do enjoy reading when people complain about 2 spam when D/P is just a spam rotation like a D/D ele lol but all I have to say if is that…. if you keep running away and spamming snares then I will for sure spam 2 on you…. at least until steal or shadow step cd is over lol….

I’d personally say: smaller groups -> worse balance.
Seriously, the class balance in this game from a competetive view is really, really bad (condition dmg for example lol). So people found out that using the direct combat system and the already in-game COMBO system is a lot of fun AND evens out the playing field on the balance front for a bit. The thing is, you need more people for that.
8v8 is the weirdest number you could ask for(except if you really want highlander mode). Not even the combo system could get used to its full potential.
So why not use the things that make the game fun?

Yea I’m only using the old gvg as an example because there’re a lot of factors to consider, i.e. I don’t think everyone out there can play 20v20, and I don’t think anet is going to release a game mode just for people with fast connections, that alone would bring a lot more complains for em lol

All I’m saying, if they ever introduce this, do not have high expectations to be like what you guys are doing right now….

I’m the living proof of GvG screwing with queue, everyone hates it but still that never stops guilds from doing GvG or am I wrong?

This is one of the reasons of why I left JQ like 6 months ago (when they had more Zerg vs Zerg guilds), I got tired of these selfish guilds taking space and not letting others enjoy the game as well

God, YB is as bad as BP with hiding in the towers. Almost an hour in their BL and I couldn’t get one person to actually duel me. Always gotta be 3:1 or better. One guy of higher rank than me actually hid inside a camp, behind the guards of all things. Wouldn’t come out and play, so I walked off, went in a big circle, came back, and capped it anyway. I am disappoint.

I honestly don’t understand why people bother playing the game if they aren’t going to PLAY THE GAME. If you’re in WvW, you obviously enjoy PvP so why are you making the NPC’s do the work for you? Or why wait until you outnumber the enemy to attack? If you don’t enjoy using SKILL to beat players, go back to PvE where you can gang up with your group and auto attack a mob to death.

When I “run” it’s either because I see no point in fighting a 30 man zerg and/or because I want to see how many zerglings are willing to die one at a time because they string themselves out following me. I managed to dismantle a group of seven like this a couple of nights ago.

Good Job! but still… you run away and don’t help your people and that says too much about sportsmanship :P that’s why I admire guardians they stay till the end!

It’s actually fun if you think about it…. I remember warriors used to complain about thieves hit & run tactic on forums and now they’re just doing the same XD

I’m still waiting for a rational answer to my question above regarding individual skill in a zerg because I’m confused. I’m struggling to see the individual contribution any class brings to the table vis a vis wvw. Collectively, you make one solid group. Individually, you have disadvatages. The reverse is true for thief. That’s all I’m saying.

I dont zerg so I wouldnt know. Only ever been in small roaming guilds.

I should thank all of you for living up to my expecations. I never really expected a serious discussion. Part of me wanted to see how quick it would turn into a thief-hate thread. Looks like less than a half hour.

A point of curiousity though. When you are running with a spec group or zerg, aside from commanding the zerg, what actual skill does your role require? That’s sort of the discussion I was trying to generate. When you have 30-40 people with you all doing the same thing, you individual talent level is essentially non-detectable. If you aren’t with your crew and get killed, then you got killed. Deal with it. OR you can work on your individual skills and try to counter it. It is possible.

It’s not important though. Continue with your complaints. I recommend you get a few bunker guardians in here to lambast the boon stripping. I haven’t heard one of those in a while.

Eventually any new thief will find their roll in WvW, I play mesmer, ele, thief and engi and I try to adapt to every situation by switching between my chars, is not that hard to figure out which one will adapt better for X situation…. I personally like to only down as many people as I’m able to and run around playing cat & mouse because like you said there is so much hatred toward the thief that I take advantage of that :P

What I can tell you is that…. thief is the most awesome scout class I love spamming map chat haha

Yaks bend has lost a majority of their ‘organized’ guilds. There are only a few remaining that run 15+ people, and that’s generally at night time for around 2 – 3 hours tops. So yes, PUGS will always lose vs organized groups and would need the numbers to succeed that of the organized guild. You are facing a server full of PvE and PUGs.

I beg to differ, yesterday an organized Kain guild, which I can’t remember, make it through Hills N gate in Yak’s BL, I was rolling with my mesmer and as soon as they broke in I followed them…. like if i was one more person in their zerg, they went on the right wall, where you can place catapults, when they stopped I casted all my shatter skills with clones and somehow they drew back, I was able to spread a lot of damage, after that they went to the left side on top of N outer gate I had a chance to use curtain to pull 5 people from the wall and most of them were heavy classes letting us finish most of their forces while others were trying to come back 1 person is able to do a lot of damage against well organized groups if you seize every opportunity you have.

As well I was rolling on my thief yesterday, I don’t if it was GoM or Kain, they were sitting on top of SW camp entrance, as we were running over there I was able to jump in the middle of their zerg and cast Whirling Axe (Steal Skill), omg so much fun, they were all confused and couldn’t see where the damage was coming from so they drew back down behind the entrance XD zergs are very easy to scare!

RAM were very respectable and honorable opponents. Very organized as well. Although the fights may not seem really close, I believe RAM has a lot of potential to become really good open field fighters. Who knows, maybe we’ll have a rematch someday.

And yes, I was the person who dropped the magic find bonfire. Hope nobody got offended by it or anything, it was all in good fun. I had to do something, after all, I am from Maguuma.

I’ve seen RAM around in Yak’s, I’ve actually spent some time following just to see how they play and I can tell you they could have had a better match against Me.

I’ve come to known their weaknesses, one of them is lack of variety when it comes to classes, by this video you can actually see it, but that’s what I like from them, I’m pretty sure they learned a lot from it, they are really humble when it comes to commanding, not knowing where to drop siege and asking pugs or anyone who could know where it could be the best place to drop X siege, they still a small guild but I’m sure they will become really good and some of them just need to be more patient with pugs XD

What I love of mesmer is that it will give you headaches but as soon as you master it.. it will give you lots of fun XD, go for it!

Well I do play a mesmer and usually port a lot of people in EB…. I actually agree that somehow it breaks jp mechanics but if we actually compare it to other skills we are seeing a lot of game-breakers, if we are removing portals from jp we should remove any leap or stealth skill too, all of those give you a huge advantage in eb jp, the enemy could have 30+ camping the jp but I always manage to bypass that defense with my thief really easy so my point is that if we remove portal from jp’s we will be seeing posts against stealth, speed buffs and leap skills in jps.

The only solution to me… it would be to remove jps from WvW xD

Just wondering…. why we are not able to push illusions from the edges? I do understand why we can’t do this with npcs but I don’t think this should apply to illusions… at least in WvW lol

I don’t know if it happens the same with any kind of summon or pets but everything that is controlled or summoned by players should be “pushable” don’t you think?

So everyone could just roll a gc build and kill things in 5 seconds or less! :P
The game in its current state is not balanced that way, you’re not looking at the big picture, you have low lvl ppl who jump into WvW too, downed state is really great help when you’re playing with a new toon, all classes damage output would need a rework, implementation of rez skills (I think we currently we have 2 classes with rez skills) what I mean is that there’re so many factors to consider that would not be so easy to implement it, you might think that is not that hard, but IMO… class balance its strongly attached to the downed state

The one thing that can definitely be said about maguuma, is that not in any of the weeks that we fought them did 1 person ever complain about nightcapping. Yak’s folks just don’t seem to understand how wvw works unfortunately.

When makeover kits came out I thought this could be implemented later, but I think since you pick your story from the beginning and your storyline is based on that and race it would take a lot of work for developers to remap everything

Come on Anet! show us some love and tell us if this could be reintegrated in the future :P
