I wonder if they are trying to urge people to buy them in the gem shop with such a low drop rate.
They are. Whether it’s a good or a bad thing is for you to decide. Personally, I don’t even care about the things so it doesn’t bother me either way. But yes, box to key ratio exists so you feel urged to buy keys from the gem store. Personally, I think this whole “gamble for random items inside this box” is by far one of the worst trends in MMOs these days, but hey, people dish out cash for it so can’t really blame em I guess…

I disagree. We need about 16 more currencies before I can take this game seriously. I’ve always wanted to know what Bourne felt like with a backpack full of random foreign currency. Don’t take my dream away from me.
Pets are pretty much ins-ta death on a boss. If they last 15 seconds it a miracle. Pets are as dumb as rocks. They wonder off and aggro everything in the room. Pets are 30% of a rangers DPS and since they are dead most of the time on a boss DPS suffers big time. I could go on but I have a feeling you will try and claim I am wrong, that’s OK you are as they say entitled to your opinion.
Oh please, c’mon. That is not fair to rocks. Rocks have a use.
I wonder if the devs will actually respond for once in the ranger section
No. That would make too much sense. Imagine the worst thing they could do. Got it? Good. Whatever they’re going to do is worse than that thing you imagined.
-Removed all sources of income from the game. We will now dish out wealth as we see fit to players who we deem deserving.
-Added AI to ranger pets. Pets will now run towards the nearest enemy AOE spell in order to free themselves of their useless existence.
Whats going on?
Until they can prove otherwise, I’m under the impression they just don’t care. Honestly. Whatever they’re doing, it’s apparent that it’s more important than class balance to them. I’m not trying to start anything, but that’s how I see it.
Their priorities, for lack of a better word, seem to be all over the place and at this point I’m more worried than I am saddened.
What are you talking about? I run a spirit ranger all the time and let me tell you that they’re already OP. Our spirits don’t need buffs. Heck our entire class is darn near perfect and-
oh…sorry, I gotta go now. The nurse lady says it’s time for me to take my pills then go for nap time.
This is exactly why I said we shouldn’t expect anything…
Well, the good is, at this pace, we’ll hear about good, significant ranger changes in about another 6-12 months and hey, maybe in 2-3 years, we’ll actually be a viable class. #followyourdreams
Nothing. I find it makes my life easier that way.
All the dragons have the same. exact. animation. I mean c’mon. The encounters aren’t exactly thrilling to begin with, but once you notice that, it takes it to an entirely new level of boring.
The only difference is their entrances and the fact Claw doesn’t fly, but other than that, they’re essentially reskins. This wouldn’t bother me so much if not for the fact THEY DON’T EVEN DO ANYTHING. They just stand there while you dps them down with no regard for anything. If they’re just going to be in one spot, I don’t think it’s unreasonable request to at least make them behave different.
More than that though, I much rather use his idea:
They need to get rid of the current dragon encounters, make them roaming, use an actual mob model instead of a building model, and make them dangerous and unpredictable. Make them crash DE’s, low level zones…hell, any zone. I’d be hilariously happy if they attacked cities. And don’t put em on a frakkin timer.
I’m surprised so many people bring up the “GW1 issue” and not the “centaur issue” after watching that manifesto…
“The centaurs are standing around in a field and you get a quest that says go kill 10 centaurs. We don’t think that’s okay.” So, their solution?
“Instead of talking to this npc, go kill enough centaurs (that are still standing around in this field btw) until this bar fills up.” Innovation.
Saying that the game is on sale and equating that with the game not doing well is just plain silly. Pepsi ran a sale the other day, and I’m pretty sure they’re doing fine. I’ve seen WoW on sale too.
Games always drop in price after release. Anet wants more people playing, because that means more people will be buying stuff through the cash shop. Most of the people interested have already bought the game, so now they discount it to entice new people who might not have tried it previously. It’s a marketing strategy. There’s no way anyone can construe this as indication of the game’s health, unless they can show that other healthy companies don’t run sales…which they can’t.
It’s a smart move on their part, whether the game is doing well or not.
As hard as I am on the game and ANet, this man speaks the truth. If the game was on sale every other day or something THEN there might be argument there, but a sale every now and then indicates virtually nothing about the state of the game.
We all can see how this isn’t going to go anywhere, right? :P
lol does it ever?
Were these arbitrarily chosen by the devs?
Yes. Basic colors (that everyone would actually want) like white and black are rare., yet all manner of other colors can be found in the common category.
C’mon now. White and black are rare colors? Since when have those ever been rare for anything? I can walk to the nearest intersection and, in the span of 5 minutes, see more white and black cars than I count. They’re rare in GW2 for essentially no other reason than to make players pay for them in one form or another,
Try guesting to emhry bay server, in most zones you’ll be lucky if you even see some other players.
Omg this is so painfully true. Aside from the dragons and Lion’s Arch (duh), the server is pretty much dead and has been for quite some time.
It bugs the mess outta me.
It feels like they’re deflecting…a lot. “What’s that? Broken class? I can’t hear you over the sound of this brand new shiny sPvP map! Yay!!”

No. “Buying keys to open chests with random rewards with a slim chance of getting anything even remotely good” is probably one of the worst ways I can think of to spend money. It’s gambling, but with the odds stacked astronomically against you.
Nope. Areas seem to take longer to load than they used to, but it might be on my end because my laptop has been acting up lately.
What exactly does everyone have a problem with regarding the pet AI?
Search the forums. Not trying to be rude. It’s just that there’s so many posts and threads at this point, a simple search would provide a better answer than I could probably ever give you.
That said, the simple answer is pet AI is all kinds of dumb. That, in and of itself, isn’t a bad thing, but the fact of the matter is rangers are very reliant on pets. That is their mechanic. That’s what separates them from every other class. So, when you can’t control every aspect of the pet, one would hope the AI would be good enough that it shouldn’t be a problem.
Well…the AI isn’t good enough so it is a problem. A very, very big problem.
The fact this thread has gotten this big and NO ONE from ANet has even dropped by and posted a simple “we hear you” should come off as very troubling. I think at this point, most of us are angrier at this complete and utter radio silence than we are at the state of the ranger class.
There’s a fine line between keeping quiet and ignoring your customers and I feel like ANet crossed the line into the latter when they let this thread get this big.
They said “we hear you” months ago. They know the ranger needs work. But with the feedback they keep getting, I don’t blame them for not telling us everything. We know they are working on it. We know the held back last time as they wanted to get it right. I’m all for letting them get it right instead of rushing it out the door to (maybe) please us. All we don’t know is how and when.
And if you have checked much of this thread, lots of it is irritation at them and people throwing in the towel (or at least saying they are). That is not the kind of environment I’d want to talk in, and I doubt they do either.
Yes, M-O-N-T-H-S ago. That’s the problem. We don’t know anything. We just assume they’re working on it because the last time they said anything at all was months ago. For all we know, they could have completely ignored class balance the day after they posted that. We don’t know. They barely talk to us.
No one is asking for them to rush anything out the door. I think any reasonable person wants them to take their time. We want them to get it right. We just want to know what’s going on.
Staying quiet because you’re afraid of backlash makes no sense because, most of the time, it’s that backlash that gets things fixed. What if a month from now, they release a massive patch with a bunch of horrendous changes to a bunch of classes? What then? Does their multi-month long silence help then? No.
They don’t have to make us freaking members of the design team, but a little back and forth every now and then certainly doesn’t hurt.
The reason they don’t respond is psychological. They know if they just keep those Ranger fixes “over the horizon” there won’t be a mass exodus of their player base.
If they said what their plans were, like: “6 months from now we will buff a signet, oh and ‘fix’ Empathic bond so it doesn’t remove all conditions.”
I’m pretty sure we’d all just uninstall. So they’ll keep us in suspense instead.
If that’s even remotely true, it’s the worst thing they could do. It’s time like these when I appreciate CCP’s community team even more than I already do.
CCP isn’t perfect. Not by a long shot. However, they are among the best when it comes to community interaction. You constantly see people from all across the development team (artists, programmers, etc) interacting with the community whether it’s a “serious” thread or not.
And more often than not, when an issue with the game is brought up similar to the extent of this thread, you would have gotten several dev posts by now saying something along the lines of “here’s the problem, here are our goals, here are our options, here is our timeline” (even if that time is months away".
The fact this thread has gotten this big and NO ONE from ANet has even dropped by and posted a simple “we hear you” should come off as very troubling. I think at this point, most of us are angrier at this complete and utter radio silence than we are at the state of the ranger class.

Its only been two months..give it some time. They will fix it soon!!
;)
2 months since what? Because, in about a week, it’ll be 4 months since launch.
I agree. I sat around Mt. Maelstrom for a good hour or two waiting and asking for people to help clear the volcano, but there was maybe 2-3 in the zone? If there were any more they sure weren’t interested in helping or even responding…
Not every group event needs fixing imo, but I think any that directly impacts access to something relevant should be fixed. If someone is trying to get map completition or something, why should they be punished because there’s no one ever around to help them clear the event that’s always up?
Yes.
Anet’s Crystin Cox said, in an interview a few months before the game launched, that they made the dye system the way it is because they wanted each character to have a unique palette and dyes should be a sign of character progress and blahblahblah.
I’m sorry, but I think that’s dumb. People go out and get the colors they want anyway. All this does is, once again,, cause trouble for some people by forcing them to go out and spend gold they don’t have and/or, you guessed it, get them to peek inside the gem store.
If someone wants all their characters to have something as simple as a C-O-L-O-R, why would you make it hard for them? Especially with the insane amount some dyes cost, getting certain ones for all your characters would be an absolute nightmare.
This entire thing is infinitely more frustrating because in a 2010 blog post, they EXPLICITLY said dyes would be account bound. I feel like between this and the manifesto, there’s a lot of back-peddling going on and I’m not sure what to make of it. If these changes had good reasons behind them then I wouldn’t mind, but everything they do just seems like a way to make everything the player does harder…and for what?

Glad it’s not just me. A bunch of zones are taking super long to load for me tonight. Like, I waited for 5 minutes to get into Hoelbrak….
Hoelbrak.
No one ever goes to Hoelbrak except for me and like the 4 other crazy people.
It wouldn’t be as good as the prequels…
