Hey! Popping in with actual numbers. 33 out of 45 exotics were unique ones (1 precursor included) that’s 73% rate actually. Shame it looks like it was just mad luck, puts this thread into a pile of yet another RNG drama
.
Also I used rares because it’s way faster to fill buy orders. People are into salvaging exotics now so it’s gotten kinda slow to buy something with orange name!
‘’Actual numbers’’ doesn’t mean your ridiculously small sample size of 45 exotics
Good luck OP. I would suggest using rares but that’s just my experience
It is indeed an epic journey on the way to your Legendary. Wallets are brutally emptied. Picks and axes are wielded upon hapless nodes without mercy. Many a harrowing trek is made to the furtherest reaches of the Trading Post. Virgin sacrificial weapons are flung into the hungering maw of the RNG God until grudgingly he spits out your precursor. And snickers.
All hail the Almighty Zomorros!
or you could have just spent that gold on the precursor…. lol
Sounds like these guys are doing it just in hopes they will hit big and then sell it. Not to actually make a legendary.
That was pretty much my intention when I was trying for my first ever precursor. Now it’s just fun to dump a few hundred gold and click for an hour. Seeing the precursor pop up on your screen also feels pretty neat
RNG is a funny thing. My longest drought has been an 800g run with nothing. Then a week later, The legend on the first try. A few days later, 1 Dusk after 200g~, another Dusk after 700g, and a third after 300g.
I’ve noticed a lot of trends using the forge and I’d like to think I have my fair share of experience with it but it’s all RNG. Do it for fun if you find gambling fun. Do it for the chance at getting your precursor for way cheaper than TP prices or just do it for the hell of it.
Just never expect the forge to give you what you want
What are you missing out on? You set skill 1 to auto attack and then hit 2-5 on recharge.

GW2
Pick 1
inb4 every precursor costs 1000g to craft and is timegated for at least 2 weeks
Wait why do you guys want tengu as a playable race? You’re not going to get proper fitting armor and it’s going to be charr 2.0
In GW1, we all stood around in the main towns buying and selling. Having a minipet out was a popular thing to do since the expensive ones were an extension to your kitten. Even if you didn’t have an expensive one and wanted to whip out your favorite one that was fine because we had some pretty cool minis.
In GW2, we don’t stand around buying and selling. In GW2 there are way too many particle effects for me to even notice a mini unless it’s above average size. In GW2 (already stated above by another user), we are getting minipets thrown at us almost like it’s a another form of useless currency.
Mini’s were fairly useless in GW1, but GW2 managed to make them even MORE useless.
New mini get’s released. It’s region locked + account bound = people complaining
New mini get’s released. It’s region locked but able to be traded so people just buy/sell at a high in game price = people complain that mini prices should not be this high blah blah blah
Please somebody prove me wrong on the 2nd point. I Guarantee if this Mr.Sparkles was able to be traded and had a price tag of 600g a thread would have been made complaining about it’s price.
’’I’m too casual to afford that! Wahh, why would you make it hard for me and not accomodate my OCD’’
As much as I want secure trading to be implemented, I really really really doubt we’d ever get it. Not much we can do about it sadly. We’re just going to have to deal with it.
Well my home server’s /map chat is only active when somebody is trolling. The /say chat is dominated by the group circlejerk of 14 year olds yelling ‘’QUAGGAN FOO XD’‘. Divinities reach on TC is probably the best place I’ve found in game for chat, but even then the chatting is generally about video games/obscure animes and other stuff that not everybody can just jump into and talk.
I’ve been told numerous times that I’m logging in at the wrong times or, ‘’come to my server it’s different’’ but you can’t tell me that 5 min after reset is the wrong time. 30+ people waiting for a world boss to spawn and the chat is empty except for people asking if anybody is doing the pre.
So take that as you will. Even if we did have a place like Marhan’s Grotto from back in the day the community would make you cringe with half the stuff they type.
Me personally I think the community is just too different. GW1 people had thicker skin and you wouldn’t get banned for mouthing off in a PvP game. (usually). The GW2 community is like a cross between the reddit userbase and your elementary school playground. Psuedo intellectuals who won’t hesitate to tattle on you to the teacher (Anet).
But all negativity aside, I HAVE experienced a few good chats. The problem is after 11 months I can count off all the incidents on both hands.
I’ve said it once before, and I’ll say it again here….
There’s nothing legendary about selling a legendary weapon (or a precursor) on the TP. It was probably one of ANet’s worst mistakes ever.
And there’s nothing legendary about spending 7 months making gold, doing map completion, buying mats and making gifts. What point are you trying to make here? Jealous that somebody has bought their legendary with a credit card?
I forgot to add I got all my precursor’s from rares. Usually lv 80. All the exotics i got were sold to buy more rares. Unfortunately I didn’t keep track of the numbers, just the amount of gold I spent.
Mmmk so I’ve probably spent around 3k gold in the forge. 15 precursors later heres what i can tell you.
Diminished returns can seem likely when you hit a rough patch. I’ve done 6-700g worth with nothing, but just 3 nights ago i popped 3 dawns in a 3-4 hour span. No diminished returns, this is just how the RNG works.
As far as anything being guaranteed, I really don’t think we can say that there is a guarantee. I am pretty sure that dumping 3k rares into the forge could very well net you with nothing. At the end of the day, the RNG is so bad and the numbers are so low that you are never guaranteed. I’ve gone from 800g, to 0g back to 400g, then to 900g, then to 150g and then to 1200g. All this obtained without hitting astronomical numbers like 1600 greatswords.
People in this thread have stated, your chances to get a pre are the same on your first try as they are on your 100th try. It literally comes down to luck. The only trend I’ve noticed was getting named exotics. Go dump 100g in the forge and count the named exotics you get. The more you get, the higher the chance to get a pre on your next batch of 50 staves. Of course, thats just my observation so it could mean fk all to everybody else. Again, it’s all luck and even my small sample size of 15 won’t do much in helping others.
I just want to know why OP kept trying. The first 500 didnt work, the second 500 didnt work and the THIRD set of 500 didnt work. Was there a little voice in your head telling you that you’ll get it eventually if you kept dumping gold into it? It doesn’t work like that when you’re gambling OP. Should have just quit after the first 500 and sucked up your losses. Now you’re even farther down the hole.
Some people lol
Well OP, you saw 130g and didn’t think twice. Other people don’t think twice about spending 130g for things they want. Sure the price may drop in a week or two, but why wait if you have the money and want it now?
Also I love your signature. Great way to tell us that you have. Maybe the new forum trend should be putting imgur links of our wallets
Why why whyyyyyy. You should have just sat on the $$ from Dawn and called it quits
Aye Bama, get anything from the forge lately?
I’ve saved heaps.. HEAPS of money in way-pointing, so personally I’m happy she won
To be honest, I am much more likely to use a way point now because of the cheaper cost. I feel that the current price is what the price should have been set at from the very start of the game. Maybe we can petition this to be a permanent fixture?
I don’t get it. Are you insanely poor, or just really poor?
Not that is is relevant to the topic, but rich people who make it themselves also do so by spending wisely.
Yes because when you have 1000+ gold from flipping on the TP, you’re going to look back at the 5g total you spent on waypoint costs and say ‘’Hmm, look at how wise I am in my spending!’’
I just want to know where that person is coming from. I met tons of people during the election who were voting solely because of cheaper waypoints. When I had 3g total and 1 level 80, I was making more then enough to cover waypoint costs just from playing the game. You literally have to have 10 copper in your wallet to be legitimate about your waypoint woes. Sounds pretty stupid to be that stingy about a few coppers and maybe 2-3 silver

No thanks. I would prefer that I, and others, who pay attention to what we are doing not have to suffer more clicks because of people who pay no attention.
You make it sound as if you’re perfect and have never made a mistake.
So you feel like a hobo because you chose to focus all your time playing 1 character? Instead of say, Idk, spending some time playing other characters?
man it must suck to be poor on this game
Hahaha. Last night I decided to do the forge again. Got Dawn after 60g~ . I got greedy and ended up dropping somewhere around 500g before finally getting the colossus to save me. Lesson learned with that close call.
Do you plan to keep going? The luck has to run out completely somewhere down the line
I’ve sold numerous precursors and undercutting by 1 copper, 50s, a few gold can potentially screw you over and force you to relist. My worst experience was selling spark. I had to watch for 6 days as it kept getting undercut and once mine came close to being in the top 3 cheapest, 3-4 would pop out of nowhere and get listed for 10-15g cheaper at least. Ending up having to relist and eat another 30g listing fee.
My advice for anybody selling a precursor is to not be greedy and list somewhere in between the highest buy offer and lowest sell offer. If it’s a high demanded precursor like Dusk, you MIGHT be able to get away with listing it 5g cheaper then the next, but its up to you if you want to take that chance. If the highest buy offer is 500g and the cheapest sell offer is 580g, consider listing yours somewhere around 550-60g for the best possible chance at having it sell and still bringing you as much $ as possible. Otherwise, listing it at 579g 99s 99c could potentially screw you over
Aw man Balk i didnt tell you how much gold i lost in relisting those precursor i listed in my precursor thread did I? within the 7 days i got those precursor i total out at 110g relisting because i have the worst patience in the game and i always pay for it.
LOL geez man. Gotta be patient with those things. 110g in re listing fees is brutal

For what it’s worth I’ve got a personal storage guild which I’ve had for months and which is usually not represented by any of my characters and I’ve never lost the bank or anything in there.
I’ve also discovered today that you can buy guild bank access items from the commendation trader relatively cheaply, so you don’t have to be in a major city to access your guild bank. And you can access your guild bank while guesting too.
Ok so Im a bit confused here…..the wallet is going to automatically take the gold from my bank and put it into the wallet? You guys are talking about taking precautions because…..?
Im just curious +really confused reading this thread right now
We’re not taking precautions against gold moving to the wallet.
The problem is that a lot of people use the current character/bank divide to manage their money. For example I keep a little bit of gold (silver actually) on each of my characters for their ‘expenses’ – things like waypoints, armor repairs, gathering tools and salvage kits. Then all my other gold goes into the bank to be saved up for big purchases. Doing it this way means it’s easy to keep track of how much I can spend on expensive and/or non-essential things like minis or skins without worrying that I’ll be stuck unable to afford the everyday essentials.
The new wallet is taking away that option, it merges all your gold into one pool so there is no easy way to keep separate amounts for different purposes.
So we’re talking about other ways to achieve that. As far as I can see my options come down to shifting my saved gold to my personal guild bank or keeping a spreadsheet of who needs what and subtracting that from my total gold every time I want to buy something.
So after getting merged to the wallet, I cant withdraw a bit to keep on 1 character?
Can we please just get the option to ping our gold to map chat? Most legendary users dont know what envy is
No offense to any of the PvE tryhards, but if I have money and want a certain dungeons armor, or title for achievment points, Im going to find someone who’s able to get what I need done and pay them for it. Sure, I COULD go through the dungeon myself, but Im willing to pay for the convenience and professionalism of somebody/somebodies who are experienced in running the dungeon.
Either way, just like the debate over people who buy their legendaries vs people who make them, it really doesn’t matter and if you make a big deal about it you’re wasting your time
I just bought a bunch of lv 80 rare staves and it came out 5-6th try. Dusk didnt come easy though. I was having doubts on whether or not I was going to get it but after buying 1 last batch of 50 or so greatswords, it came out on the first try.
I didnt use anything specific really, but I’ve always bought only lv 80 and the cheapest. Ended up driving the price up for pretty much every rare greatsword because I was buying bulk of 50 for a good hour lol.
Honestly, I was just wildly gambling last night. I should have stopped after getting the legend, but I just had to test my luck. Had I not gotten dusk, I probably wouldnt have been able to afford the listing fee for the legend. I woulda kept buying and buying and buying until i became one of those poor souls who have spent 500+ gold gambling for dusk.
Anyway, no more mystic forge for me. My gambling desires have been fulfilled
I dont use stones. They randomize it and you very well could get anything. This includes underwater precursors, offhands, torches etc. I only use 4 of the same weapon type + rarity
Also, to the OP. I got the legend + dusk last night. 20g for legend, 250g~ for dusk
No chaos axe? No storm bow? No eternal shield? No shadow shield? No canthan shields? No Bo staves?
Dam OP, fix your list
inb4 its an 800 gem cashshop item :p
96% sure it will be when it’s introduced
Heh you know whats funny? 2 weeks ago I got spark and just earlier today I got the hunter. The very first precursor I got was the colossus a month back.
We’re pretty similar as far as what the forge poops out for us lol
Bought 1k more GS and 500 more hammers all failed , tried to forge over 170 exotics to no avail , went from 60g to 500g up to 800g down to 400g and back down again to 60..hmmm no one told me precursors are that hard to get lol..oh well im sittin on this measly 60g for a sec till i get the urge to try a small sample…
I had to lol when I read this. You should have stopped while you were ahead.
Ok so Im a bit confused here…..the wallet is going to automatically take the gold from my bank and put it into the wallet? You guys are talking about taking precautions because…..?
Im just curious +really confused reading this thread right now
You will get an account bound mini, account bound boosters, soul bound food and account bound copper ore
Im crafting 1200 GS more lets see how i fair this time..luckily thats equivalent to the measly 360g i got from Zap!…but calling 360g measly make me sound a bit greedy :|
Good luck buddy
Do my daily, do some world bosses, afk for a bit, flip on the TP, stare at my gold, afk some more and log off
Im done criticizing the game because I dont care as much anymore. I cant tell if thats good or bad, but im kinda liking how extremely casual its been.
Reading this thread is a goldmine. If some of you like arguing so much, why not become lawyers? Oh right. You can’t sit behind a computer and type your rebuttals in a court room
Mystic coins are Laurels – but they are tradable, which proved to be a huge mistake.
Now they are just a vestigial currency.
If only laurels were tradable lol. Id be fine paying a few gold for 1 if it meant not having to wait a full month just to get 1 piece of ascended gear
We should be able to ctrl+click the gold in our banks. Then try telling me that im ’’envious’’ of your bow that shoots rainbows and unicorns.
That’s like asking why corn farmers are still wasting their time growing corn when they could be trading ethanol futures. The answer is that they like growing corn, they know growing corn, and they have no interest in not growing corn.
Some farmers may switch to trading, and some may add a trading portfolio to their earnings, but most farmers are going to continue to farm because they don’t have the desire or knowledge to get into the trading meta.
You’re comparing the real world of logistics to an MMO in which the middle man serves no function whatsoever. In the real world the corn grower is reliant on the middle man to get his goods to the public and the public is likewise reliant on the middle man to get the goods. It’s a symbiotic relationship. Flippers however are purely parasitic entities and I really don’t see why that should be rewarded over actually playing the game.
Surely ArenaNet didn’t intend for us all to huddle up in Lion’s Arch to progress?
haha parasitic entities. Got a sour taste in your mouth eh? I wont even bother arguing your points. You need to sit in a corner and have a time out before you can start making assumptions and insult people.
I see so many sunrises/twilights that they might as well be demoted to exotic rarity. I like seeing the juggernauts chrome/metallic effect, but that doesnt mean im impressed. Im more impressed by people who have things like Infinite light or Mjolnir. I RARELY see those except for when Im on the TP looking for swords/hammers to buy
I need 200g to buy _________.
My options :
1. Farm cof p1 until I make 200g
2. Do world bosses for 3-4 months
3.Farm (lol) and maybe make 1-2g/ hour
4. Take what little gold I have and start flipping on the TP
5. Make a scantily clad female character and charge people gold to ERP with me
I’ve done my fair share of farming in this game and Im done. I’ll start farming when Anet fixes the droprates. 2 hours of frostgorge and you MAYBE get 1 corrupted lodestone? Along with 6-7 vicious claws? Thats called wasting your time. Im also not going to play the game for 3-4 months just so i can afford a few nice skins for my character.
