Guild Wars is trying to be different if you add mounts then it is just like every other mmo . I personally dislike mounts found no use for them. Same with mini pets a little thing that follows you around and does nothing.
“Trying to be different” Is not a valid reason for trying to milk players for way point costs. If this is really your logic then why on earth have they included the mini pets but not mounts? You are very much correct in that the mini pets don’t actually do anything however the mounts do actually give you a wonderful speed boosts so you can traverse the map over and over and over again and not begin to feel the exhaustion as if u were actually walking that much.
You see how you have kinda overridden your argument there. They can afford to not have to “be different” and throw in the pets coz there is no business strategy in not having them there.
heh… unless u are a Norn, my friend has decided to play the biggest possible male norn which cracks me up every time I see him in game because to me it looks like hes running in slow motion. Anyway this is all highly beside the point. I got places to be, thats the aim of the game and my little legs were apparently built for walking… A LOT. I dispute this decision, and believe it is the biggest problem. I’m on the verge of putting it down until mounts come out at this stage.
why some people try so hard to defend this decision to not have mounts in the game yet O_O
Don’t misunderstand me: I am the one preaching most of the time how people need to slow down and really appreciate everything the game has to offer and NOT race to max lvl and then try and grind the bestkittenloot because please believe me this is not FUN, even if you have convinced yourself that it is, lol.
This game is a prime example where it has ACTUALLY been tailored to fun, to exploring and taking the time to try everything it has to offer, and to testing your skills against different fun challenges.
HOWEVER: When part of the primary focus is on finding everything the map has to offer (and I much enjoy 100%ing maps) who here can sweep the whole thing mechanically top to bottom and never have to backtrack once? I don’t want to be forced to have to either do my exploring in a mechanical fashion or constantly fork out money to teleport back and forth which I have been doing so far but this decision to not have mounts and force u to do that is nothing more than a way to keep the economy stable by making people poor! and it REALLY frustrates me when I am lvling many characters at once.
If you still can think of an argument, disagree with this scenario: You are in WvWvW and your guild mates have called you in, so u zone in and have to run 3/4 across the map to get to the battle they are in, so u spend a few minutes running across thekittenthing only to be ganked by some random team of badguys just as u were so close, only to find your nearest way point is the one you just ran from -_- This is a nightmare, and the grief factor would be reduced by 500% if I had some kind of basic mount I could jump up on to increase the movement speed by some 75% or whatever they wanna make it. Get real guys. Game where the object is to explore THE WORLD and you force me to do it on foot. Disappointment.
I prefer names that fit the lore and game, since I like to feel immersed. It’s impossible these days, of course, since the maturity level of players couldn’t get any lower.
So, sorry, I don’t find many of these to be “best” by a long shot.
Some are marginally amusing but the thing is, they reflect the fact that the people that the people who create them don’t care about the game, or the genre, or the effect they have on other players.
I agree with this person.
Having said that I can’t help but chuckle a little when I see a creative name (very few in this thread), for example whoever mentioned “Taylor Swiftclaw” That’s pretty fantastic….
I agree with u guys. However my suggestion for “F” is that you MASH IT HARDER!!! MASH THAT BUTTON LIKE ITS 1999!!
What do you think?
MMOs are a business, the aim of the game is profit: how to make profit? long term players. Simple. Marketing plan from that point onwards revolves around training them to play for as long as possible.
The guild wars dudes have taken a more unique approach and I like that a lot, however the game is still the same but revolves (I would like to think) more around keeping the players happy so they get more ppl to buy and invest in the game, heres to hoping. Stay tuned.
Pixels!! Your pixels need to be better than everyone else’s pixelskittenit! Until your pixels are superior to all you must NEVER STOP! GRIIIIIIIIIINNNNDDD!
No, seriously tho. PvP is fun! The guy is right tho it needs to lead to some unique rewards, ones you could take back to the pve world, or even ones u could bring in from the pve world even if its just purely aesthetic, that would be great.
WvWvW I still can not make up my mind on… it’s a bit too early to tell as I am not max lvl yet, and I believe its being screwed over by a bunch of frivolous ppl who are not settled into guilds yet and keep server hopping to get on the more dominant servers. HOWEVER ONE THING IS FOR CERTAIN: Not having mounts in the game, walking for 5 min to get to a battle in WvWvW running into a group of baddies and getting murdered to find yr nearest waypoint it the one u came from… is NOT fun, and NO one can ever dispute that.
My biggest issue are the broken skill challenges.
This is extremely annoying coz when u are trying to complete an area in time so that the 100% rewards are actually useful… and a skill point thingy is broken for days/weeks, u end up having to go back there when it is finally fixed and yr character is over leveled and the rewards remain lvl 14 for example in the starting areas.
Are there not enough other lvl 80 areas? I think the problem will be ironed out just got to give it time, more high lvl content will be added. Keep in mind about two weeks ago (which is how long I imagine roughly it takes u insane hardcore players to get to 80) the game went back up for sale, so right now its probably peaking with population. You literally have the biggest amount of new lvl 80 players trying to do the same thing that you might ever have per server that is. For one ANet didn’t expect this HUGE a turn out for their game, they did not expect it to sell out in the first place…
true, no waiting is nice.. I was just unlucky first go, Ive been pretty happy with it over all
Chase the enemy flag carrier!
So I guess if the game keeps count of win/loss everyone is always just gonna abandon the heavily losing team so half the games will be pointless rushing? :S
Honestly, is there no penalty to leaving a match? are ppl avoiding a bad ratio? does the game even keep count of a win/loss ratio?
Today I had my first go at PVP.
Wow so everyone has equal gear in pvp and is automatically 80? I guess thats good…
Anyway this wasnt about that, I joined a game and immediately started doing well and my team was doing twice as good and I even beat a few ppl then it said something about Auto Balance and in the middle of a big fight with lots of other ppl BAM I suddenly vanish and am back at the starting area of the opposite and heavily losing team, immediately after that half that team just leaves as it probably happened to them too.
Is this a thing? or was I unlucky? Is there nothing in place to just stop ppl leaving? That rly ruined my first experience >_<
Again just a heads up to see if anyone is having this issue:
My “Edit, quote, report post” etc buttons constantly keep vanishing in threads. I have to normally make another post then refresh the page then edit that post just to quote people, is this even happening to anyone else? Right now when I open most pages all I get is one icon that states: “Permalink: use this for copy and pasting” and nothing else >_<
Sylvari Engineer
Norn Elementalist
Human Mesmer
Charr Ranger
Asura ThiefHowever, I’m not sold on the Ranger class, nor on the Charr race. I can’t get past the fact that the Charr are supposed to be the BAD guys, and death leveling for hours on them in GW1 has left me a bit racist against them. I’m kicking over deleting my Ranger to make room for a Human, Sylvari or Asura Guardian.
You should learn something here: The Charr seemed such bad guys because you only dealt with humans in the first game, who were at war at the time so obviously the level of bias was astronomical, however the Charr were simply fighting for what was theirs, they are far from bad guys. Unless ofcourse you talk about their demenour which is very bada-s-s and rough around the edges.
I absolutely love them, favourite race hands down and in the first game I always loved fighting them coz they seemed bada-s-s back then too, the only thing I dislike is how structured their society is and how they all believe in strict order and military rank. Still this is what makes them strong…
Reserved for Pie!
C’mon… you know after a long day of referencing you just wanna sit down and have some pie with me.
I honestly encourage ppl to try most races because the stories are quite diverse, if anything the races themselves are not diverse enough (humans and humans on steroids? …ok…) but the starting areas are beautiful, vast and unique.
Mine are:
Charr – Mesmer (was very happy with my choice when I found out this is a combo of the least played class and race :P)
Norn – Guardian (stopped at 6 as I will probably remake, I just find the Norn too huge and slow moving but again their story and areas are fun for the most part)
Sylvari – Engineer (A fantastic concept I think of a plant taking a huge interest in mechanical engineering)
Human – Necromancer (Token sexy female character -_- I find the petite Gothic look I gave her phenomenally hot)
Sylvari – Thief (I know I really have to make an Asura and I promise I will, also need room for a Charr warrior! sigh…)
If you take the time to read and think about my short post…. I am actually asking “WHERE DID THIS DATA COME FROM” like… multiple times :P
And you come along and say… “geeez you are so dumb for not knowing that its official data” … wow….. just wow.
Umm, furthermore now that I know this graph was made by the devs… this is just the data I wanted to know, that is fantastic and how does the OP not understand it?? Sure I wish it was more detailed (numbers please) but it states from top left to right: Male to female character ratio, class ratio (just as I expected warrior is most played and mesmer is least), then which race is being played the most and finally which crafting professions are most active.
Lol! Further-furthermore: I play a charr-mesmer as my main which according to that chart is a combination of the least played race combined with the least played class
Hooray for individuality!

Really wish Anet would speak up, seeing fewer and fewer red posts on forums lately, kind of disturbing. Tell us what’s going on, what are your plans to fix this trainwreck of endgame. Otherwise a vast majority will pack their bags and move on to something else. Sorry to say it, but it is the truth.
Have you checked the meanings of the words “vast” and “majority” recently? Sorry to say but what you said is very far from the truth.
You really think they are gonna stress about the tiny majority who have so much time that they have been 80 for a while and have ran out of things to do to the point of having lots of spare time to post on forums about it. The game sold so much better than they expected they had to immediately go and buy more server room and the digital version was out of stock for TWO WHOLE WEEKS O_O
(edited by Bassario.3465)
Yet I still guarantee you the vast majority will simply bypass your post. You have to decide if u wanna appeal to as many ppl as possible or the select few while keeping your bases covered for silly responses but they are generally inevitable and can be easily cleared up in posts below.
On another thread from some guy, I tried researching it briefly… couldn’t rly find anything comprehensive, I decided best not to get too excited -_-
What is it you want advice on how to ‘deal with’? I play like coughninecough different characters as I feel like it, “perhaps even enjoying it”. I’m not in a hurry to get anywhere.
So what’s the problem?
heeheehee, honestly? Please enlighten me as to why on earth you find the need to play two of the same class, that seems a touch insane to me. Sure I could see the appeal of wanting to at some point have a Charr Engineer and say a Sylvari one (coz I found that a hard choice) but based on the way the primary skills are set in stone and the changeable skills are always easily swapped around there is simply no reason to go through all that effort.
As to OP, I am an altoholic and that does not necessarily mean powering them to 80 one at a time at all, in fact most ppl I know in my boat just have a bunch of low lvl alts and if they can manage to be sensible at least one high level one, lol. This game is NOTORIOUSLY like that by the way, this will turn anyone into an altoholic, above all I always like to try and find unique character builds and I’m not so sure how effective this is in this game at all yet coz all my toons are just going into their traits! lol.
They said try every class to lvl 10 if u have a hard time choosing, I have done 6 so far and its not helping at all, im afraid I have to learn more about traits first
Erm, where does the data come from for that graph that was linked? This sort of thing is really useful (and a bit more self explanatory than OP seems to state, at least for the class ratios) However, again where is the data coming from, was it a survey? coz it just looks like something that someone made up, or maybe surveyed a few hundred people which would birth mostly pointless results on a global scale.
That Male to Female ratio, that is simply character gender not player gender right? otherwise I definitely call fake.
I think u are confused: The Oceanic region is Australia/New Zealand and South/East Asia… lol.
So if you are referring to Sea of Sorrows or Isle of Janthir (and I think there is a 3rd one) then yes. There are a lot of Australians there, we need to find refuge someplace since no MMO will ever give us a home, resulting in horrible connections and extreme difficulties in enjoyment of the finer points of the game such as timing. However we still need to congregate some place or when we play the servers are usually dead as most Americans are asleep xD
This wont affect you too much it just means the population will be more spread out and u wont have massive crowds during your on peak time, tho I dont know what the % is anyway as it is all unofficial.
I have heard rumors of them giving us an actual physical server at some point here in Oceania and that would make me more happy than staring into the eyes of my first born child -_- its probably just a rumor tho * weeps *
Show you an MMO with no grinding at max level? ok. This one.
Think about it guys… this need to mindlessly grind and find ways to make more money and more gear more efficiently stems from your own desire to own these things, and own them as fast as humanly possible and preferably before everyone else.
Why? Just enjoy the game and pvp/dungeon with friends and do what u feel like, eventually the rewards come automatically. If you feel the burning desire to have all the best rewards asap then you are just going to suffer because the game was made to be enjoyed at its core and not for people who have justified in their brain somehow that spending hours grinding something in a repetitive manner is normal and acceptable!
The one thing I agree on whole heartedly is the waypoint costs at higher levels are far too much.
I don’t think that “poorly” is the right choice of word but I agree with you in that the boss attacks are not as memorable and/or noticable as they could be? To be fair I have not even checked the settings to see if this is available but I don’t think it is (since I cant even monitor my ping -_-), but being able to turn on a “more detail” setting that actually gave the bosses cast bars with the name of the ability they are charging up would probably help solve this issue mostly.
As a sort of pseudo-karmic thing I read your entire furiously bulging walls of text… see I am notorious at times for over the top long posts but this is just ridiculous, knocking me right off the map with that one :P
Honestly, your concerns are mostly in the right place I for one agree whole heatedly that way point costs at higher levels need to drastically change, because I want to have fun with lower level friends, I find that it’s great to go chill with them because it scales me to their level which is a good system, meaning we can still enjoy their content without me being too overpowered. Only if we end up fast traveling this whole exercise ends up costing me heaps of money -_- which is just wrong.
Anyway just a heads up, ultimately you want ppl to acknowledge what you are saying but at least 9 out of 10 of the people who looked at this post went “HOLY UNDEAD BATMAN THE WORDS THEY NEVER END” and they moved on without reading, so u rly need to plan it out a lot more, reduce the repetition to get yr point across or no one will read it
I have a feeling that some players and this might be your problem too are just moving too fast for the game, honestly you need to worry less about farming and just go with the flow. Go explore a new area, or re-visit a favourite area with a friend, do a dungen yr not too familiar with, run around more instead of fast travelling and hopefully a bit of cash will build up. You dont need the best gear in the game right this second, no one does, AND in the meantime some of the economy issues should balance out. Keep in mind they did not expect sales like this :P the game was sold out for AGES and a new, HUGE wave of ppl only hit the scene about 1 week ago.
Peace.
I just noticed a fair few posts in this section heavily critiquing some of the writing in game, and I’m not here to overly glorify the writers, I just hope they don’t get too discouraged by all the criticism because people can be quite picky and have very personal opinions above all else, however I doubt any of them are professional writers.
All in all a TON of content was written, in the stories alone and then a few more tons all over the world, half of it spoken even. It all can’t be amazing, or it would have never been finished! A lot of fantastic jokes have been snuck in and quite frankly I think this is just as important! Sometimes when you’re running around doing busy work (which has been GREATLY reduced by some smart decisions in this game) it just really brightens the mood when something hilarious or out of context happens.
Thanks for all the effort guys!
I disagree with OP for the most part, however EndlessDreamer.6780 soon after posted some very valid points: I too felt like the Norn were all too similar in their demeanour and after a little while the story kinda seemed forced, and the characters grew a bit repetitive and tedious.
Having said that for the most part I give them a thumbs up, there is a TON of content that has just been made up and it all cant be perfect, for the most part I really enjoyed the Charr story (or however far in it I am) and most of the others were ok from what I have seen so far.
HUGE thumbs up for some of the lesser content tho, I cant stress how much enjoyment and laughs I got from the Iron Legion showing up during my friend’s Norn story, suddenly the place is packed with cats and the leader is telling my friend that he is her b%#ch now to make up for that time he and some Charr got blitzed one night and took her… charr war machine/dune buggy thing? for a spin! Holy crap I couldn’t believe the lolz, and there were 2 of us following him at the time, hilarity ensued.
Oh wow… thanks for that It appears to be almost 500, which is utterly abysmal. Doesnt really feel quite that bad tho and im usually closer to 300 on other games so I dont think its as accurate, they rly need to add these details
Dunno… guess its situational I have not had a chance to try in PVP yet. Tho relatively low level I have already noticed that in pve using the weap that cleaves all mobs is incredibly beneficial when there are 3 or more.
Does anyone know? No one seems to be able to answer this in game -_-
I badly wanna see just how bad/not as bad as I thought my connection really is.
I am an Australian player so… most games and developers don’t feel I am important enough and/or profitable enough to enjoy their game half as much as those in regions such as US and EU.
However! I have heard a rumor that these developers may be majestic and beautiful Love-Angel-Kings of salvation, whom are to be worshiped and revered into Legend based on that they may be opening an Australian server at some point?
Thank you in advance for answering my question or maybe throwing some light on this rumor.
LOL just re-read yr post, sorry for initial fast read. IS AN AUSTRALIAN HOUSED SERVER REALLY GOING TO HAPPEN? coz I will KITTEN!!! I will KITTEN everywhere, pure magical beautiful EXUBERANT RAINBOWS will fly out of my a r $ e and just spray the walls with raw unadulterated glee!
Can you SEE just how excited I get just THINKING about it???!!!
EDIT: had to replace some less than politically correct words starting with S and ending in T with KITTEN! Out of fear of wrathful moderators kicking the S – - T out of me and throwing my A – - out of the forums. Talk about excitement tho, I am gonna research more into this.
(edited by Bassario.3465)
How the heck can I check my ping in game? I have been asking this again and again no one seems to know, yikes I’m gonna go start a thread asking this in a sec, as to what you said:
Anyone living in Australia or near Australia is SCREWED for mmos, I love this one and am getting more and more depressed as i realize how awesome and skill based the combat is, which means its timing based which means that with my usual ping of 300+ everything I do takes its usual half second to travel to the server in the US and back to me and it pretty much puts me at a massive disadvantage, even more so than previous mmos (where for example, one could chain up attacks and overpower most ppl anyway) yes I am talking about PVP here primarily but the reason for my lament is I’m noticing it more in pve as again, this game is all about actions and reactions.
Its a great game and a great system and simply putting one freaking small room here in Australia with a physical server would fix ALL my problems and the problems of hundreds of thousands of other players but they wont… no one will, I guess its not profitable enough and we will continue to suffer.
I am probably going to continue my plan to move to England in a few years… sigh…
Title says it all. I see a lot of post regarding players not happy with the game because they are bored already. Like I stated in another post, I just turned level 30 and have played the game each night since release.
I think some of the people who are already bored with the game because they are level I
80 with nothing to do maybe need to re-evaluate what they are doing with their lives. If you find your sole enjoyment out if sitting at a computer all day playing video games, it’s unhealthy, it’s an addiction…I love the game and find there is a TON of stuff to do and that ANet shouldn’t worry about the longevity of the game when we are only a month into the game.
Anyway I hope the dev’s don’t get fear mongered into “rushing” out new content because some people are letting games control their lives.
I am off my soap box now, flame away.
100% this.
This is absolutely right, and the freaky thing is I feel like I spend an unhealthy time playing it, despite still finding time to work a full time job and treat the girlfriend to a great time and work out so she doesn’t dump my A $ S for having 8 hour gaming sessions a few times a week!
Yet i am still just… casually exploring this wonderful game and my characters are insanely low level.
I find those people with multiple 80s at this point… psychotic, lol sorry I don’t mean to judge you but I can’t help but feel like you should remember that you have a life outside the computer and unlike your characters you can’t just restart it.
Unfortunately one thing you can’t forget is that firstly all the people who spent hundreds of hours making this game and continue to develop it have to be paid, that makes it a business above all and they will end up tailoring it to whomever is the largest target audience above everyone else and I just don’t know those statistics.
(edited by Bassario.3465)
Erp. 1 silver for daily reward and 67 copper for monthly?
Lol which genius came up with that? Even if u got 18 of those mystic coins and 5 silver it would make more sense… not that it would be more profitable, probably less but come on…
I guess they cant spoil the economy because they need some ppl to buy gems or else this lovely game wont get much further development but this decision seems somewhat cruel.
You are supposed to feel like “The Man” when you skillfully complete a difficult challenge and not when you mop the floor with everything coz you have the power to one shot it just because u really shouldn’t be in that zone.
Achieving this is definitely possible however in a dungeon setting you will need more than one competent player to achieve this.
I never understood how anyone can feel superior or good about themselves in other games, running around and dominating the lower lvl areas just basically causing an inconvenience to the players trying to play the game correctly and enjoying the challenge of a new area.
Bahahaha! Really? That sounds AWESOME!
Man, perhaps my decision to get every class to 10 first was a bad one, coz I was starting to feel really slow paced, but then starting areas are supposed to do that xD
Now I am really looking forward to getting into the higher levels, if only making a choice on class was any easier…. it still isn’t
It appears posting or re-posting on said page fixes this, wow I guess no one else is getting the problem!
But I figured out a workaround: I simply post on the page and then it opens up those options to me, so I select the necessary quote and edit the post I just made.
Good luck, who knows maybe this will help someone…
I have no problem as a melee Thief in dungeons, PvE or WvW. I use my utilities
to blind, stun and daze to completely avoid damage, If I get aggro I take measures to lose aggro and continue to melee while controlling my incomming damage with smoke and avoidance. Melee is more challenging but it is far more enjoyable experience because of this.Gentlemen, this is how you play a melee class. Take heed, especially if you’re playing thief. He knows what’s up.
Right… DusK and Elthurien (cool name btw) I can see that you have learned to play the game -_- congratulations.
However you and most ppl here seem to be completely missing the point we are trying to make:
Yes melee is fun and rewarding
Yes you can be good at it
Yes melee is more enjoyable (depending on what you like) and in most cases more challenging
However: There is no reason to do it! (other than if you really want to) There needs to be advantages and benefits to being in melee, that doesn’t mean buffing warrior, heck nerf the ranged stuff for all I care I would just rather have my warrior feel like a warrior or else what is the point? He becomes more a ranger than the ranger is (as the ranger is not quite as good in melee or ranged which he makes up for by having a pet, so more of a hunter/tamer tho I’m not here to argue class names)
See knowing that there is no benefit (other than enjoyment) to being up close and personal, most ppl tend to whip out their ranged weapon on tougher bosses and because every class is “viable at range” we suddenly have almost everyone using the ranged option because it means they don’t have to learn the bosses moves and dodge as much, it means they can hang further back and have a higher chance of survival and reaping the rewards.
(edited by Bassario.3465)
This is really bizarre, One moment I can use forums normally as in the icons at the bottom of every post “edit, quote” and whatever and the next moment those options completely dispensary and I only have the “permalink” icon under every post.
UGH! Seriously I just opened up a bunch of pages to test what else is down there and they are all suddenly lacking those icons, and I am connected (obviously I couldn’t post this if I was not connected and signed in) so what on earth is going on? And is anyone else experiencing this?
then just quit life now.
you make it sound like it’s easy, just flip a switch and no big deal!
well… lets not get into that conversation on second thought as these inhumanly fast forum moderators will deem it inappropriate in a matter of seconds, seriously they scare me. *looks over shoulders*
sigh… lol this forum replaces any naughty words with “kitten” it is hilarious at first but getting tedious fast because of how insanely smart their profanity filter is, I was just trying to say “I like the F-ing game” tho I probably said something like bloody or I dunno…
Thanks guys, yeah this is like any other forum I have used however the icons simply aren’t there O_O this really makes no sense, I can see them on this page and most pages but not the thread I wanna do it on and I can see others have done quotes on that thread
what
the
heck
xD
***cry***
This really peeved me off, $10 for an extra slot is really harsh. Some argue that its not so bad coz u can save up gold but I wanted to try the classes to lvl 10 before I make a solid decision, and none of my toons are high enough to make any money yet, they have like 5 – 10 silver a head -_-
I went and forked out 10 bucks coz I like thekittengame, and will probably be forced to delete my 2 least liked toons for now to try all 8
I like it, I for one was sick and tired of tools in other games being so bored that they run their mates who are lvl 1 through starting areas just blitzing the game and runing the mobs/atmosphere. I dont get how anyone gets any enjoyment from that and if all you care about is being lvl 80 and having all the best things as soon as humanly possible especially in this game then just quit life now.
How do you “quote” ppl in this forum? im sorry its probably really simple but I cant seem to figure it out, there’s only that “permalink” option and ive clicked it and then… I dunno is there a hot-key to paste that in or something?
Thanks
Lol Dradiin: “Just one other person is concerned about this?”
Are you serious? try reading the other posts on these forums before u say that, there are bout 7 million about “How serious the problem is that healing and support does not contribute to rewards.”
I am certain they are working hard on it, and I have read in multiple places that it’s apparently a bug and that it is supposed to contribute just as much as dps.
