Hehe, this is a great idea, I wish you luck.

However you are gravely mistaken if you think this is an issue primarily on Sea of Sorrows, I check the WvW page every day and most of the time we are ahead, yesterday was indeed the first time I noticed us losing quite hard.

The game is still very new and unique and the second wave of ppl just got their hands on it about a week ago so expect a whole world of noobies just tooling around for a few months yet on all servers. It’s just a luck of the draw thing whichever guilds get motivated to do some quality group work and at what times.

Actually I pretty much agree.
I believe the problem lies in that a warrior who is slappin’ em up and a warrior who is pewpewing from a distance has the same amount of survivability (more on range if u consider kiting skills)
Classes who have to get up nice and close to do their dirty work, who have to chase down their targets and hit them in the face are SUPPOSED to get bonuses to survivability like hp, armor or shields, whatever they wanna make it but there has to be a benefit to it, u cant just give them equally viable ranged and melee options and then make them equally tough in both situations coz in harder fights it kinda forces us to go ranged.
to Raf: (post above me) That is all good and merry on mobs isn’t it, works fine, but your point goes completely down the toilet when u are fighting a nice long boss fight doesn’t it? You end up hanging back and hitting it with ranged coz u can do same sort of damage only u don’t have to worry about getting hit by its short-medium AoE stuff.
This is definitely the case for warrior, I have not tried Thief yet tho.

Yes. Op is right but I believe everyone agrees and they are working on it, we’ll have to be patient for now, play around on an alt in the meantime.

Lol yes. What he said, this game tailors to me SO well coz I love crawling around different zones, exploring and taking my time. Instead of punishing u for that this game rewards you for it, I have never understood those who rush to max lvl it is lunacy to me, I guess all they care about is the best gear and being better than most ppl and that kind of player, Id rather not play with.

The biggest problem AND commendation at the same time is how hard it is to settle for a class… lol that alone will keep me entertained for months, maybe years O_O

Lol I have been trying all the classes since I started up to try and pick a main and get a feel for how they play and the only starting zone I am yet to see is Asura one.

Having said that Ive been blown away with most of the capital cities, Black Citadel is amazing, especially if u take the time to discover all the crazy random hidden pretty areas, like pot-plant haven underneath or the scenic park area to the west.

Same goes for human and tree dude starting zones/cities, just wow.

Don’t forget that more importantly this is their job. The trouble there is that there is a line between hobbies and work, and yes often that line can overlap and that can be great when that happens however: At the end of the day they have to make profit, that is goal number one.

Having said that… i think the fact that the game has a lot of unique clever stuff going for it is what has attracted the majority. At least I hope so, i think ppl were ready for some major changes, I know I was. MMOs stopped holing my attention completely (and I played wow for some 3-4 years) and this brought the love back just as I gave up on it.

Will it last? too early to know, but I really hope so I have played a bunch of classes to 10 now and I remain highly optimistic.

Right… only I wanted to pretty much try them all to lvl 10 before making a solid decision, so basically u guys are telling me this will cost something like $45.

5? Seriously thats not right. There are 8 classes, everyone should be entitled to try them all without deleting anything.

Is it something you purchase? and do you have to fill up all 5 before that becomes an option?

Sorry lol, I just started up yesterday and I’m a tad confused. I loved the first guild wars and Mesmer was always the class I popped as my secondary (well… a lot) so now that you get to be stuck with just the one choice (and since I looked it up and saw u can use melee weapons!) I naturally went with Mesmer!!

However, its a whole new game and there is a lot to learn… I am considering rolling an easier class to get used to the game then play my beautiful kitty-mesmer, but anyways a question or two as I am keen: The first skill you start with and first weapon (I guess its some kind of 1 handed staff?) when I mouse over my skill it seems to do 3 things. Now can I set it to do one of those things, or is it a random chance or is it sequential?? lol how does it work, sure enough one of the variations seems to say it will summon an illusion of me and it seems to about 1 out of 3 hits, sadly these “clones” vanish the moment the enemy I am targeting is defeated.

So um… yeah can someone explain this better? Is there a way to summon more permanent clones? What weapon set would you suggest me to try? and is there a detailed source on the internet yet where I can sorta look this kinda thing up?

The whole server thing is a BIG issue. Me and a friend can not get on the unofficial Australian server as its constantly full. Server choice seems permanent so we cant even created characters on it later which is how it should be and hence forth rises the issue.

Nevertheless I want to play NOW since I finally finished downloading lol, so I need to know how much time (even roughly) do I have to try and attempt the transfer?

How much longer roughly until free server transfers are over? :S any ideas? surely with the game coming available for purchase again only yesterday I still would have a week or longer

Bugger wont let me join as it is continuously showing up FULL!

Based on that the game only became available for sale again yesterday, the free transfers should stay free for a few weeks yet, right?

The server I have finally chosen (after receiving lots of information that it is the unofficial Australian server) went from HIGH to FULL in the space of the 10 min it took me to restart my computer… this is a REAL PAIN IN THE BUTT as I am chosing this for me and 2 other friends (1 joining later today and another in a few days)

What should I do? Wait for it to go back down to high again and hope for the best that my friends manage to join?? I pretty much dont have many options coz I want active players and this wont happen coz my peak time is american off-peak

oh CHRIST almighty, the server status was ‘HIGH’ as I wrote this, I reset computer after cleaning it a bit and try to start playing and it has jumped to ‘FULL’ in that time

When you say: “Every class except guardian currently has a viable ranged and melee option” is this really true? Im extremely new to the game (today) but are you saying that Elementalist has a viable melee fighting option? Taking into account that they are apparently the softest armor but highest damage class.

One last go at having players confirm this before I chose this as my server in about half an hour xD thanks guys

So I have been hearing that Warriors are holding up the best in PVP, which is a little underwhelming because I am already trying to stay clear of warrior as it is over-played.

However I am heavily interested in Guardian, how well do they hold up in PVP in comparison? and head to head can a Guardian beat a warrior of the same skill at least some of the time?

Is there a page somewhere on this site that lists all the servers and their populations or not yet? I cant seem to find this.

The game stock became “limited” only because of the overwhelmingly positive response to the game :P They honestly did not expect to sell so much so quickly. They actually had to go “hey, well… screw this, lets use some of this extra money to buy more servers and open up more realms coz we are losing money for every day we remain ‘Sold Out’”

I imagine as a result the servers are in a slight state of dissaray as friends try to group with friends, I too am underwhelmed by the “single server” thing, I dont get why we have to have a hub and cant place one or two characters per server (up to whatever the limit is)

Myself and a friend who are Australian are trying very hard to make an educated decision now, it is an even more serious choice for us because if we choose a server with 100% US population its going to be very dead later on during the hours which most of the Americans sleep xD

What I wouldnt give for an actual dedicated Oceanic server but no… we are not at that stage yet

Thanks guys! See this list is just comprehensive enough to make me happy about my initial choice to play Mesmer!
I was tossing up between that and Guardian and most ppl agree that Guardian is quite common but Mesmer is under appreciated, well lets hope I can figure it out and play an outstanding Mesmer see you in game.

I dislike playing the class that is most common.
I guess it just makes me feel a bit less unique and useful when joining a group and there are a bunch of others quite similar to me!
I know this game is based around skill, and so it wont be much of an issue but that doesnt change how I feel about this so I have pretty much ruled out Warrior as I hear they are the most common and I’m ok with that, but does anyone know:
Are there any official statistics anywhere about population? Statistics that rank the classes in most commonly used from 1 to 8 would be amazing! However as this probably is not publically listed anywhere, so opinions are more than welcome too. Thanks guys, looking forward to making my decision tomorrow

Quick question: He is planning to play Norn and I much preffer the Charr (I loved them in the original game xD)

Do the starting areas differ and would it be too much of an effort for us to meet up early on? I am just wondering it is not a big problem if this is the case, I will simply start a Norn with him for now and then catch up my Charr character in my spare time if I have to.

It would suck to play on a pure US server as during the time I play it will probably be relatively dead xD

Honestly I am a bit underwhelmed that there are no dedicated Oceanic or at least Asian servers coz it means PVP for me will be that much harder, ill probably get stuck with a ping of 300 -_-

But if you guys are on a specific server that will be great! me and friends will gladly sign up tomorrow, im downloading right now

Haha, I think for my first toon I have narrowed it down to Mesmer or Guardian. It’s a very hard choice to make prior to trying them because I have heard so many mixed opinions, im worried about the light armor on the Mesmer from both the perspective of Aesthetics and effectiveness. However I believe Charr will look decent in any armor just because I always loved them from the start ware-cats!

It will come down to how the clones work I think, some ppl have pointed out that they work poorly in pvp and have to be combined with the “vanish” skill or else the opponent will simply continue to target you.

lol yeah, I simply figured it out by watching the size of the file each time I restarted, as there is no “pause” option I knew there had to be something I mean… 25 gig download :P that is sizeable.

Nice! Yeah like I mentioned I am tossing up between Mesmer, Guardian and Engineer. What do you guys think of those and what would u suggest? I usually fall back on melee more than casting or ranged combat but I am trying to stay open to anything as all the mechanics look good and I have decided to stay clear of warrior.

Hey guys, my web connection takes ages for downloads since I am far from exchange and Australian ADSL 2 is a complete joke in some areas -_- I just shut the downloader for guild wars 2 when it had 4 gigs downloaded and now when I try to re-open it starts from fresh! even tho in my Guild Wars 2 folder there is a 4 gig Gw2.dat file.

Is this for reals? is there no way I can get it to start from that point again?

Haha good advice! tho u are preaching to the wrooooong person, I am probably the slowest at these games, especially when I enjoy them. Its not generally coz I am bad in any way I just… love the little things, love to take my time and get good at every aspect, most ppl have three lvl 80s in the space it will take me to get a class to 45 and a couple of alts to 20. Based on the reviews I watched so far and the vids… I know this game takes the time for the little thing, again EXCITEEEDDD!!!!!

Hehehe I only used the letter F, many of them and then many of the letter U to symbolise yelling out a certain naughty word followed by YYEEEAAAHHH as is customary to express one’s excitement. I CAN POST!! WOOOO, ok sorry breathing But yeah just bought the game, after getting hyped about it last night and seeing it out of stock, it became available overnight and I was like kitten————— YEEAHHHH!

Aaaaaaaaaanyway, I played guild wars 1 extensively, tho I never finished it because of my altoholism and … well I just LOVED the class system, felt pretty limitless the way u could mix any class with any class.

Anyway I have been reading about the classes in this one lots and the ones that are REALLY speaking to me are: Mesmer, Guardian, Engineer. Probably in that order What would you suggest? I love how they gave Mesmers access to lots of weapons, even greatswords! Keeping well with the " being able to customise yr class lots" theme I hope! What would u guys suggest out of those? I refuse to play warrior just because it is usually in most games what I fall back on and I wish to branch out, plus it is the most commonly used class as it is! On top of that I love to play the long lasting survivalist warrior with medium damage so I am hoping Guardian will really work out well for me also. Thanks for yr ideas!!
