First, they shouldn’t program to prevent players from being dumb and not take into account the TP fees when pricing an item to sell or entering a bid. I would not mind if they took the vendor + 1c restriction off either but that’s there so they can’t flip purchased items to vendors for a profit.

Second, as long as they are maintaining the +1c over vendor restriction then they really should clean up for few items that have bids bellow this limit. However it’s really not confusing to treat these the same as having no bids.

@Vinny submitting bug reports is all well and good but if you want it resolved at your end, since TP is up for pretty much everyone else then you need a support ticket and work with them to access what’s going on with your system.

Here’s a possible solution. While not running the game, use Windows Explorer search for a folder called gw2cache on your system drive. It’s really gw2cache-{xxxx…xxxx}. Delete the whole folder. Start the game and try the TP.

Another possibility is the IP address/port for the TP is being blocked by your system or ISP.

About placing orders...

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

if you don’t want people outbidding you, stop being cheap and offer a reasonable price.

It doesn’t really work like that… I’m “playing the TP” alot during a day, and the same applies for every single item out there. Take the aether keys for example, that was a really profitable item to buy and trade since it was going extremely fast.

Over the course of a day it’s gone from a goldmine to more or less useless, simply because people are able to do these +-1c bids/sales. It’s rather annoying having to ship silly amounts of items only to make a decent profit worthwhile.

So you are upset that the price of Aether Key Pieces reached an equilibrium as driven by market forces (ie supply going up while demand stays the same). Oh well?

A request for a 64 bit Client

in Account & Technical Support

In and of itself 64-bit will do very little.

- Logic and program flow instructions aren’t affected by 64-bit.
- Floating point math isn’t affected by 64-bit.
- Integer math is but the question is how much of the code is being slowed by integer math.
- Address space is but since the game is compiled with large address aware then it has access to 4GB of memory space on a 64-bit OS. Nobody has reported seeing the program go past 3GB much less approach 4GB.
- 64-bit doesn’t impact multi-thread “balance” for lack of a better term. Right now the code is multi-threaded but it appears that the majority of the threads are either very short in execution length or infrequently run and therefore have limited impact when additional cores are present.

64-bit is a buzzword gamers have glomed onto much like Dx11. It’s very much like a first time car buyer wanting alloy rims while ignoring other performance options. It has little impact when the engine is underpowered for the size of the vehicle. Let them fix the engine first before worrying about the 2nd tier performance enhancements.

well… one of those times we were right and there was an accidental nerf.

A broken clock tells the right time twice a day.

And if stealth nerfs didn’t repeatedly occur, accidental or otherwise, you wouldn’t have conspiracy theories either.

Of course we would. Conspiracy theories exist independent of such inconveniences as evidence, logic, or reality.

Someone cries “wolf” multiple times per day on these forums about something and usually has nothing more than a feeling to back it up. The only reason why Smith even looked into the ecto salvaging situation in the first place is because there was clear evidence from several sources that something was wrong. In the absence of this kind of proof, the devs are not going to chase down every phantom bug that someone claims to have found.

And someday the doomsayers will be right and they will point say they were right … just a few years ahead of time.

What do you do with Rares now?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

I haven’t seen a drop in ecto salvage rates, I’ve done a run post patch and actually did better than average.

I’ve been tracking how many ectos after each salvage and there is roughly a 35% chance of getting nothing. You rolled a D6 and got a 1 or a 2. The problem is unless you are buying rares to salvage en masse, you only need a couple of bad outcomes to convince yourself that salvaging was the wrong thing to do. At the end of a session I may have had 2 or 3 rares dropped on me. At roughly 25s each you will need two or more ectos out of salvaging those to profit but you actually have a surprisingly high chance only getting one ecto or less, around 20% in the case of three rares and in the case of only salvaging only two rares it’s over 40%.

So you salvage, end up with less than if you just sold them and you kick yourself swearing that the ecto drop rates have been fudged again. You quickly forget the times you get 2 or more but the times you end up with fewer than you need for salvaging to be the better choice accumulates in your memory.

Edit: This is with master salvage kits.

Rules of Conduct Clarification

I do not mean to distribute my contact info to thousands of people. Given how generalized the text in the rules of conduct are, I don’t want break any rules by coordinating out of game communication with my guild, some I know from real life, others I’ve only spoken to through the game. Given that many companys make the distinction between distributing information you’ve be previously authorized to disseminate and surreptitiously obtained information, I want to know if Anet makes that distinction as well.

It’s pretty black and white here. You may not post or communicate any player’s real world information (name, address, account name, telephone number, etc.) through the Guild Wars 2 Game or websites.

If you don’t understand this, allow me to try and explain. You are a player in this game. The rule states that you may not share any player’s real world information. Therefore, you may not share your information. But if you do, then it’s up to Anet to decide what the consequences are for you.

But only using GW2’s game client or website. Feel free to do it out of game, using PMs at a guild or fan website. Just don’t use the forums here or e-mail or chat in the game. This is to cover ANet’s backside.

Mystic Salvage Kit - Issue?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

Actually with mystic/master kits it’s closer to 0.9 ectos per rare.

That said I’ve been recently tracking how many ectos I get every time I salvage. The miss rate, the percentage chance of getting none is roughly 35%, one ecto 45% of the time and two and three echos about 10% of the time each. These are very rough numbers from only 169 salvages. At one point I had a string of 5 misses. One time I only had one 3 in 59 salvage while another time I had eight 3s in 60.

I’m not salvaging ones and twos but in batches over 50.

People thought they were buying what it was advertised as, it’s only natural they voice their displeasure.

Yes, they’ve had a year to voice their displeasure. At what point do you stop beating a dead horse. It’s a fine paste soaked into the soil by now.

Yes, it wasn’t what you thought you were buying. Yes, the devs interpreted the manifesto one way while you, ignoring the near immediate clarifications, interpreted it as something else. Yes what the devs thought were the best parts of GW1 to include into GW2 weren’t the parts you thought were the best parts of GW1.

We get it but this is the product they sold and we bought. They can’t radically alter it at this point. Complain about how this wasn’t the game you thought they promised. Complain how they aren’t listening to your sage council to fix the game when many players seem perfectly content with what they got. Read this thread.

Check the wiki for basic info.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Main_Page

Don’t fear helping whoever you see. You can’t kill their steals or affect the loot or XP they receive. Rez downed players and NPCs when you find them. Besides being nice you get XP.

Always gather/chop/mine resources so make sure to buy gathering tools. There is a button on your inventory to shift crafting materials to your account bank. Even if you don’t care about crafting you can earn a bit of coin selling them off plus you get XP for gathering them.

Explore and uncover the map. You get XP. Find points of interest (POI), visit Vistas, activate waypoints and do Skill challenges. Also for XP.

Check out and explore all six cities. Pretty much no harm can befall you there, except falling damage. Waypoints within cities are free to use once discovered.

Pop over to the PvP area, do the trivial tutorial and go to the PvP staging area. There’s a gate there to the city of Lion’s Arch and you can jump to the PvP staging area from anywhere for no cost.

Hearts denote activities you only need to complete once to unlock a vendor that can sell you unique, as in not found anywhere else, items for Karma, which is as it sounds a good will currency for completing Hearts and Dynamic Events (DEs) which is the other source of organized activities. DEs repeat, large ones are marked as Group Events.

But to feel pushed into doing any one thing. If you just want to hunt, hunt. If you want to find all waypoints, POIs, vistas and skill point challenges and do all the Hearts on a map, no problem.

You have quite a bit of freedom about how you play and where you play. There is suggested activities for daily and monthly rewards, daily activities change daily. There are events tied to the Living World content that changes every two to four weeks. Just do what you find enjoyable.

Actually unless some of us have actually seen the TP code, none of us can say what would be the quickest way to implement any of this.

It boils down to their, ANet’s, belief that the number of players that would benefit from this is tiny compared to the number that use the TP and therefore very low priority when it comes to changes for the TP and TP UI.

Dude how can you get angry over something like this.

The ability to respec with pure silver is already in the game. It cost 3s.

THIS IS A CONVENIENCE ITEM
THIS IS A CONVENIENCE ITEM
THIS IS A CONVENIENCE ITEM

It’s NOT a new feature, it’s NOT removing a feature in the game, and it’s NOT something that will get you an advantage.

I am literally baffled by the concept of a single in-the-field respec costing more than 3g at current exchange prices. That is absolutely absurd. A huge reason I liked GW1 was the ability to experiment with new builds pretty much anytime I chose. I’ve always disagreed with GW2’s respec philosophy to some degree, but this just blew my mind.

Because ANet doesn’t set their prices based on the exchange rates. Gems for gold is a mere nicety and a way for players to finance the gold for gems for cash market that may yet evolve as the rates keep going up. Also at 70 gems for one it is one of or the cheapest gem shop items available.

You bought a product. You don’t like it. You state your opinion to the manufacturer why you don’t like it. They don’t address your concerns. You chalk it up to a bad buying decision and you move on.

You don’t set up camp and a soap box on their property and restate your objections over and over and over again for the rest of the product’s lifespan. We get it, you don’t like it for reasons XYZ.

If this was a subscription based MMO then you would have to keep paying to hang around protesting but since it’s a buy to play game you get the linger here forever and frankly after a year it’s getting old.

The only hope we have against you types is when ESO, Black Desert or whatever new MMO you choose comes out is that when it disappoints your echo chambered, self deluded expectations that you will then glom onto their forum and we can have relative peace and quiet with players that are willing to provide constructive criticism rather than a list of nonnegotiable demands.

This exactly.

Constructive criticism run out its course months ago after hundreds of suggestions and not a single response.
Btw a lot of the people who complain (me included) are not interested in grindy mmo, this is why we are still here hoping that something will change in the future.
I doubt you’ll see us definitelly disappear when the next wow clone will be out.
On the contrary (imo), when those games will be launched, gw2 will lose a lot of players, but most of us will be not between them.

It’s not constructive to ask them to abandon their game design for another game design. No they won’t bring back the MMO triad. No they will not add dozens upon dozens of trait/skills to complicate character builds, they simplified it for a reason. No they will not add a tool to allow party builders to exclude players, they intentionally want as many players to be included as possible which is why no tagging, no KS, no loot ninja, XP for every activity under the sun, etc.

And grindy? I’ve played some grindy MMOs and this ain’t one of them unless you choose it to be or you define grind so broadly that any activity other than sandbox is considered a grind.

So we’re stuck with the collective droning of why this game is so bad. Is that what you’re saying, you will never move on. What you like abusive relationships? You all obviously don’t like this game yet you stay on.

Still hate it, STILL not fixed.

Either ANet does not consider this to be a bug or not possible to fix or of low enough priority to fix that nobody has been assigned to it. Did you submit a bug report or just complained here about it? If everyone who hates this reports it just maybe it’s status will be elevated.

This prevents me from spending real money on the game because of BLTP errors. If they can’t get this fixed in over a year I don’t trust them to fix the other stuff.

Pray tell how does selling multiple items rapidly on the TP and having it put the brakes on has anything to do with buying Gems? Yes their credit/debit/paypal purchasing gem transaction section of the TP can be stubborn about letting you buy gems but frankly I’ve seen this before with NCSOFT run cash shops. Their anti-fraud methods can be draconian at times and sometimes it’s the result of the bank your CC is issued from. Everytime a charge is reversed due to a stolen CC used is a black mark against ANet/NCSOFT and it’s been known to reach a point where CC companies simply refuse to let you buy from them.

Anyways if you are having a problem buying gems for cash open a ticket and let support work with you to resolve it.

But most naysayers aren’t providing constructive criticism. They are insisting that if some fundamental part of the game isn’t changed to their liking then they will remain here and repost their opinion into every thread that is even remotely pertinent to their complaint. Double if the thread complements the game.

And the doom and gloomers like you Stormcrow has been saying that the active population will dwindle any time now for quite some time now. Yes, at some point the game’s population will dip to a point where NCSOFT will close it, it’s NCSOFT’s way, but that isn’t now or isn’t soon.

As for Tequila Sunrise, they swung the difficulty vs reward pendulum way way over to the “it’s not worth the hassle” end of things. Half the players are ignoring the dragon to hunt champs that spawn. I don’t remember ever “winning” that event since they revamped it. It has nothing to do with player population, there are lots of players there, it’s just nobody seems to care to put in the effort to defeat him. Too many other shinnies to go after.

It eventually ends up at NCSOFT once it passes through the hands of ArenaNet. ArenaNet is it’s own company with accounting, sales, marketing departments but the company is still owned in totality by NC West Holdings which is owned in totality by NCSOFT.

Crossfire or CPU for better performance?

If you are running Window 7 on an AMD Bulldozer based CPU which are the FX-xxxx and socket FM2 series, there are two patches up on Microsoft’s support site that can improve performance by a little bit. They won’t get installed by Windows update, you have to do this yourself.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2645594

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2646060

The first alters how threads are assigned on AMD Bulldozer based CPUs. The patch will make the Win 7 thread scheduler assign first a thread to each “module” and only then double them up. Important because if both cores in a module are assigned threads, the performance of both cores decreases due to the common shared resources of the module.

The second alters the “core parking” feature of the thread schedular where when there isn’t enough work to do to occupy all cores fully, the OS can chose not to assign work to some cores at all until work load on the remaining active cores exceed some threshold.

Don’t expect miracles out of these two updates but they can buy you a few percentage points gain in performance.

These changes are already in Windows 8 so if you are running that, sorry.

What you are missing is that they removed that feature after the first time and now offer it with a Gem shop item.

Will the Optimization help AMD CPU's ?

in Account & Technical Support

If by AMD Optimization the OP means support for more than 4 cores then I would lean toward the no column. Games aren’t as easily subdivided into similar tasks that by throwing more cores at it’s performance will scale linearly. This isn’t video compression, ray tracing or any other task where the same block of code can be spun off to N-1 cores with a supervisor thread overseeing coordination. Plus there are considerably fewer true six and eight core CPUs than there are four (no most i7s are still four cores).

If by AMD Optimization the OP means the discussion a few weeks back that brought up the Intel compiler and optimized library incident from a few years ago, where Intel’s compiler actively refuse to acknowledge when any non-Intel CPU supported any streaming instruction set beyond SSE2 so the libraries used for advance math algorithms like FFT would always perform worse. Well I doubt there is much SSEx code in the game and that ArenaNet would choose to use Intel’s compiler. However Intel is known to analyze software to determine the frequency of which instructions are used including sequences of instructions and with that knowledge optimize their next generation CPU to perform those instructions or series of instructions just a little faster than before. That’s what helps determines the arrangement and number of execution units in the core to improve Intel’s superscaling and HT effectiveness.

Now general high level code optimization will benefit both Intel and AMD equally.
