Go Intel. Nothing against the FX-8350 but the extra cores aren’t as useful in GW2 as single core performance and Intel beats AMD, no contest.

Why not go Haswell? Yes it’s a touch more expensive being the new kid but socket 1155 is a dead end.

You may also want to invest in an SSD. I know this is a shift in my previous position about SSDs but I’ve been watching system activity while in heavily populated areas, LA by the MF, and what I see is an enormous amount of reads, lasting well over a minute at 40-50MB/s, which I attribute to building all the other players’ actual avatars since the majority of the drive activity stops once all the generic placeholder avatars go away. Sound effects also go away during this time, I assume because reading sound files off of the HD is secondary to avatar generation. The drive activity returns when I run over to the TP where I find more generic avatars and once again the drive activity stops once the players’ actual avatars appear. And it reappears when I jog back over to the MF and Bank where I find generic avatars again. My culling settings are set to high/high.

An SSD should speed that, other player’s avatars being generated, up considerably.

Okay actually.. this is actually the last question because I have two friends pushing me back and forth between that case above and..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147107

My only gripe is that I know I’d have to remove the fan on the side to connect the heat sink which.. isn’t that big of a deal I’m sure it’d still be really cool inside and quiet (which was also a concern, I don’t want something too loud..) that and the LEDs seem distracting but, never owning one, I wouldn’t know, is it possible to turn them off easily for the blue lights compared to the other cases white ones?

??? I don’t see why. While there’s a found mount behind the CPU area of the motherboard there isn’t a fan there. The side fan is located on the side with the window, the side you remove to install everything.

From what I read at Tom’s Hardware on that Rosewill Blackhawk, those LEDs on the front fans can’t be turned off. They don’t say anything about the top one. However the front fans in the Corsair 400R do have a toggle on the front panel to turn off the light.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/dragon-rider-chaser-mk-i,2992-4.html

As for how annoy it may be, don’t know. Do you play in a dark room? All I have is a blue/orange power/standby LED that illuminates a 7" plastic bar that lights up a dark room like a nightlight when the monitor is on standby.

Did I say the chests are satisfying? If you look back through my history, which I might do later and post the actual link, I thought keys were entirely pointless. I still do. I rarely use any of the stuff I’ve gotten from chests other than keys, BL salvage kits and one Karma booster just before they changed karma containers. I have 15+ slots full of chest stuff that I’m to stubborn to just delete from my bank. Who knows, maybe someday I will find a use for them.

What I said above is they tried to spice them up with the skin tickets. But if you sit down and work out the cost it makes that monocle in EVE that caused such an uproar look down right cheap in comparison. But people still buy them just as they buy scratch tickets at the gas station. Maybe this time I’ll win something good.

Edit: Post from six months ago, gold price for key has gone up 2.1x since then.

Overpriced Gem store?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

Worst part about the gem store is that apparently since Anet thinks customizing the look of your armor is a luxury its suitable to gate it entirely via gem-store-only Transmutation Crystals.. Beside that and the Infinite Continue Coin I don’t have any problems with the gem store.

Transmutation Crystals are not only acquirable through the Gem Store. I’ve gone through several dozen of them since the game released and I never bought any of them from the Gem Store. I’ve gotten them all from Daily Reward Chests and once or twice from a Daily Reward Chest giving me a Black Lion Chest Key and I then got them from opening a Black Lion Chest with that free key.

I envy you and all those other players that got so many Transmutation Crystals. I’ve been playing since launch and I’ve received 5 since then from a Black Lion Chest. FIVE. Not the dozens that so many seem to be getting. It’s true that you can get them through normal play, but it’s incredibly reliant on RNG, so I don’t consider that much of a counter…

I only got 5 from a chest, the rest I bought last time they were on sale. Still haven’t used them. The gold ones, I got well over a hundred of.

Behellagh.1468

Yah~ I am NOT INTO SKINS AT ALL. I do believe I said trying for the perma tp/banker if you really must know. Scraps were mentioned because Anet/GW2 recently said they chose that rng to be tweaked & lower/replace the key reroll which are much better to many than some of the other items that have extremely HIGH rng in the chests. So in short I am here stating I would rather have key rerolls untouched over some of the boosters could be lowered to make room for scraps.

Honestly, I am not understanding your motivation. Are you saying I am illogical to point out there were potentially better/different options for scraps to replace? Or are you truely happy with things exactly as they are & are here defending it’s safety from possible change? Everyone else who joined the convo whether they agreed or disagreed with me expressed their own opinion of what THEY found useful or liked/disliked.
I get it, you don’t like me, but you have yet to contribute anything helpful to Anet or players as far as solutions or ideas or even what you like or dislike with the current state of affairs. All you have done is act condescending & shown your kitten without shame to pick my post apart piece by piece with no particular goal…
You feel you can say it all better, super! Give me your email & next time I decide I want to make a post I will use you as my secretary, writing & expression are the slowest part of my recovery & I really could use someone else to do it for me so I don’t have to put myself out there to be unjustly ridiculed or belittled by trolls that see poor writing indicative of stupidity & inability to have valuable input. I will even pay you what I don’t spend in gems ^,^

Geez lighten up there Hoss. I’m not getting personal.

What I’m saying is players should realize that 98% of the time they are going to get Gem store stuff from the chests that they may not be interested in at all. That’s it’s primary purpose, to offer a sampling from the store. Now there is an off chance that there is something really cool and really rare in one but they shouldn’t make it their life’s work to find one.

And isn’t the Perma TP or Perma Banker contracts extremely rare, as in 1/10ths or a percent chance if that high. That’s a Melville level quest there. They are meant to be extra, extra rare otherwise they aren’t special then.

As for unfair, now if you were sitting on a bunch of keys and they changed up the odds by adding or removing the “special” non Gem Store items in a patch, yea, that can be unfair. But what I’m pointing out is that the boosters are never going to be removed from the chests and their odds will remain relatively the same. And as I said before, tweaking the majority of key drops to add scraps and tickets for skins is logical from ANet’s POV since the purpose of scraps and tickets is to increase the sales of keys. Keys bought with Gems that are hopefully bought with cash.

I understand your frustration. You have a bunch of XP and Kill Streak boosters, which has like a 20-25% chance to get one of them in every chest, and you are mad as heck that you aren’t seeing the rarer items like the contracts. And by denying you extra keys for something you don’t care of like skin tickets/scraps you feel that it’s a money grab.

Well it IS a money grab, you’re just caught up in the wake of it. But ANet needs players to buy gems with cash, to show a profit to their masters in the Korea. These “grab bag” items are the most profitable way to do so in every MMO with a cash shop. And the really desirable stuff has to be rare to ultra rare. Even one in one hundred can be considered too common when you consider tens hundreds of thousands of chests have been opened.

I’m not attacking you, I’m just trying to talk some sense as to why what you suggest will never happen. Keys have gone from a common to rare drop to make room for skin tickets/scraps, whose purpose is to sell more keys. Boosters and common one time use items will always be the majority of what gets dropped from a chest. And when you do get something uncommon it will likely be a BL salvage kit or one of those laughable gathering tools.

And as of right now, for the cost of roughly 225 keys when bought with gold, roughly 800g, you can buy those two contracts off the TP right now. That’s around $325 in gold bought with gems bought with cash. That’s your alternative. Playing “scratch tickets” hoping for a one or pony up the gold. Just putting it into perspective.

Sorry, I often post stream of consciousness and edit afterwords. Going back and reading it now I see it lacks a certain … clarity.

What I was trying to say is presenting a parts list for such a low budget is difficult, because on one hand you can either specify a lower end CPU like an i3 instead of an i5 with the i3 being the latest generation and match it with a Z87 motherboard that allows overclockable CPUs later, or go with an older i5 using Socket 1155 and go something cheaper like an H77 motherboard but the socket is a dead end. However any savings could be use on a better video card or a higher quality power supply.

But since you already have a high quality PSU as well as a GPU you are willing to reuse this make the job a little easier and you did a good job with it. And if you are still concern about the cooler/case fit issue, the Rosewill Galaxy case does provide more headroom for the same price or less depending on the model (there are three Galaxy cases, insides the same, sides the same, the three fans are the same-ish, only the plastic front on top are different, check them out on NewEgg).

@ItWasntMe

Fine, let’s look at your OP in detail shall we. And it wasn’t grammer, simply a little white space adds to readability. How many, like me simply read the first line or two of your reply and simply moved on from the wall of text?

Remove XP & Kill Streak Boosters from Black Lion’s Chest

The PvE xp boosters are 100% USELESS in a game that has zero exp death penalties & a complete new casual player can come in & get to lvl cap in two weeks using consumables & just doing map explore & story quests.

First the BL Chest was always first a sampler of what’s available at the Gem store. It wasn’t until recently when they decided to put scraps and tickets for skins in them to encourage players to buy keys. They even made scrapes a relatively high percentage drop. Also as I pointed out earlier anyone who levels their character in only two weeks is hardly a casual player, as in 5 to 10 hours a week of play.

It is one thing to add items, but to manipulate the rates or to replace keys with scraps over other items that are 100% useless is a rip off. No one needs 1 of those boosters let alone 100s. There are enough other gold sink boobie prizes in the chests, such as the endless tonics, the mystery tonics, & the tiny bags of coin & many of the account bound crap.

Obviously you don’t like what was put in it but you didn’t say what exactly is ticking you off. What do you think it should be dropping instead. What was manipulated negatively, other than keys that you though should be dropping? Can’t be scraps and tickets because they just added scraps and tickets.

You added a nice new 25 key package, but the product is getting worse especially when considering a key is valued at about 3g. Please in the future be a little more fair to the consumers.

As it has been said before gold to gems is simply a convenience was not ever meant to be the player’s primary way to buy gems. They want you to spend cash because that’s what keeps the lights on.

Now looking at that wall of text that was your 2nd post. You seem to believe that the Chest’s primary purpose is to provide more keys and scraps. As much as I admit I enjoyed cascading one key into opening several chests it only became an issue when they introduced scraps and tickets. Think this through. People weren’t buying keys because the chest contains mostly uninteresting stuff. As for tonics, who cares? Oh I’m a chair. Oh, I’m an imp. Oh, I’m a tree. But I digress. So they add skin tickets and scraps to up demand (oh boy did it up demand) in keys so why would they keep the free key chance the same now?

So now I get it. Your complaint is that you want skins and feel it’s unfair that the odds of getting a ticket or skin is relatively small in relation to all the stuff the chests have always contained, most you consider junk, even though tickets and scraps have only been added recently. I think the argument is better directed at the conversion rate of scraps to tickets and tickets to skins because scraps are never going to be a one in two shot with an extra key tossed in for good measure.

I know it can be aggravating not getting what you think you should be getting out of blind box governed by a RNG you should know by now that your odds are slim and that we are talking about opening hundreds of chests on average to get enough scraps and tickets for a single skin. And unless you enjoy milking keys out of the human person story, those keys will cost you either real money, $1.05 – 1.57 each , or an ever increasing amount of gold, 4-6g each, depending on quantity bought at once.

TL;DR version – Chests were always and will be always be Number One a Whitman Sampler of items from the Gem Shop. The “secret toy surprise” in the guise of tickets and ticket scraps will always be secondary even though they will drive demand.

Sorry, didn’t get around to post in your previous thread.

The problem you presented last night was to build a system that’s inexpensive. Now the DIY side is going to want to present a system that is potentially be upgraded, which means using current or near current CPUs, while still being affordable which means trading most current for a little more powerful but older for the same price. We’re pulling in multiple directions here.

Glad to see the reuse which eases budget concerns which means Haswell.

As for your questions.

- Yes that 520 watt Seasonic is more than enough.

- WvW zergs, who the heck knows. So few players are satisfied ever with WvW frame rate and quality settings. The GTX 650 is on the weak side but you have that already.

- Tough to answer with any certainty. The 212 Evo is only a 120mm fan based cooler and from base to top is 159mm tall. But that is a narrow case (with very little room for cables behind the MB tray BTW). It’ll be tight fit. That said Googling “212 Evo Rosewill Challenger” found me several posts that say it’ll fit.

Nitpick, you have listed the i5-4670 but not the 4670K that allows you to overclock. It’s sort of pointless in the short term to pair a non-overclocking CPU, especially something near the top with a Z87 MB. It’s $20 more for the K.

The issue remains the same. Lag is here for 3 days, I am in the US for more than 3 months and never experienced such lag before.

Well we have one person with problems with the EU servers. You have to help ANet to isolate and fix the problem. You can’t just say “it broke, fix it” because it’s not broken for everybody.

At least list which events you are having problems with. Which server, what zones, PvE, Fractals, WvW, PvP? And don’t say all because I’m pretty sure you haven’t checked everywhere tonight. Specificity is important.

There is no way I am going to help Anet solve the issue more than I already did. They are aware of the problem, multiples people are reporting it. Actually the game is really close to unplayable for me. If they don’t fix it soon, I’ll just walk my way to another MMO, they are plenty of them out there. I don’t have a blood relationship with Guild Wars 2. They don’t fix it, they lose money. Not me.

So one pathping, and maybe a support ticket if you decided to submit one. That’s the sum total of your help? Gee, thanks.

Behellagh, I was under the impression that their servers were all in the US. Still, even if they have to go through the US to login and then go back across the Atlantic to servers; that’s poor execution on their part.

Behellagh.1468

First you have to factor in the patches every two weeks. The main ones tend to be in the 200-300MB range while the “fixes” are in the 40MB ranges. So lets be generous or pessimistic and say 1GB a month for patches. You should make a backup copy of the game after every successful patch to avoid needing to download the whole thing again which would take you a month with that weekly restriction.

As for game play, I haven’t seen it more than 20KBytes per second in huge events. Standing around in a city is under a 10th of that. At 20KBps that’s over 50 hours of game play a week worse case. Don’t you have homework to do? :P

Just don’t Hulu/Netfix/Bittorrent or run cat videos on YouTube at 1080p and you should have plenty of bandwidth every week for a few hours a night. And even use the Internet for “gasp!” research for class.

Even if it only takes 80 hours to level simply clearing all the level 1-25 zones, to do so in only 14 days is hardly “casual” play. Even a month isn’t enough time for a “casual” player with a life of RW obligations to level to 80.

As an aside why the rush? I never understood why so many players feel the need to level cap their character as fast as possible, not all MMOs are WoW.

So the XP booster are for the player who plays less than 10 hours a week.

Oh no! I did what was suggested and it turns out my issue really is the “internet”! How do I fix that?! Does anyone have the tech support number and/or email address to get it fixed? A buddy of mine told me not to worry as its probably an ID-10t or pebcak error which are pretty common and the internet will just fix itself, but I don’t know about that. Being a good consumer, I really want to let someone know the internet is broken in case other people are also having problems. hee hee hee

I was trying to put the idea of a bad router between the player and the server into language that a raging iltechnicate (yea! new word) could grasp. After all the Internet wasn’t designed to guarantee latency times, just delivery of the data. If that means it’s routed through Pago Pago or bounced of a satellite to get there so be it.

I’ve also seen local and regional ISPs muck up there connections isolating the problem to an specific area of the country. Are there any commonalities here with the routing for players experiencing these long lag periods? If not then that lends credence to the problem being at either end of the connection then. Is the client under heavy data load from the server, which happens in large events, “gumming up” and is causing what looks to be lag or is it the server having a problem with the load? Or even an internal network problem at the server farm?

Saying “Have lag fix it” is as useful in solving the problem as posting the weather outside or sport scores. Support needs information to collect so when it’s passed on and aggregated a pattern may emerge so they can “work the problem”.

So file a ticket. Run and return the diagnostic they ask you to run. Shouting here does little to fix the problem. Sure it finds like players and makes you feel you aren’t alone and lets you vent but it isn’t going to fix the problem without providing them with data.

They’re just skins. And you can buy them with in game cash if you’re poor. What’s the problem?

Goose wants armor and weapons that aren’t just skins in the store, if I read his OP correctly.

Never happen.

First those consoles have 8 cores, each with only 1/3rd of the performance of a core from an i5-3570.

Second the engine will have to be totally rewritten. It’s not like a game built on a multiplatform engine like UE3 or Unity where the port isn’t easy but doable in a reasonable time frame.

I think he had the number 26 on his mind and mistyped.

Also I get an average of the T6 fine mats at 19.8s each after the TP’s 15%, still 47.52g isn’t any thing to sneeze at. Beats out the 29.68g from selling 160 unidentified dyes.

That is certainly how ANet’s tech support handling it. I know I am not the only one having this problem since the new content but they want me to run the diagnostic on my machine because to them the problem is on my end.

SOP for any support site. First check the client, then check the path with a network tool.

Anyway it’s not like support, some Joe/Jane sitting in front of a screen being forwarded to the next ticket and working off a script to select a previously written e-mail reply is going to able to fix the servers. The question is will all these tickets get aggregated and seen as a problem to be examined by someone who might be able to do something about it.

Some advice for new crafters

in Crafting

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

Here’s the problem leveling up crafting. Profit Vs Crafting XP. You get the most XP discovering some new recipe, making one of X in the process. Now this new item is likely going to an item with a high crafting XP for a bit so there is that incentive to make more of them. Problem is EVERYBODY who is crafting that discipline is going to do the same thing and the TP will be full of them even though there is limited to no demand for them. But you can’t bear to sell them to a vendor for 80c so you put it up on the TP.

However there are items you have already discovered/made but have outleveled them for crafting XP that are profitable, sometimes very profitable, even when buying mats and sub-components off the TP.

So often you have a choice, discover and make an item that isn’t profitable (selling off the mats required that you gathered yourself will often make you more coin) or disregard any hope for profit and craft to boost your crafting skill.

I use Pingplotter Freeware. If there is a long ping time before you hit the 64.25.32.xx block, which is the start of their server cluster, then the problem is with the “Internet”.

Now using the IP you get from /IP you can it look up on that address on the TCP Connections of the Resource Monitor and see the Latency there.

1) Not knowing if the current low sale price is a price players will buy at they choose to price their’s closer to the high bid.

2) Impatient. They want the coin ASAP and 26g minus fees within an hour is better than 30g minus fees in a day or two if ever.

3) They may be pricing an item at an historic average or trading range, knowing it will attract buyers. It even could be the price they last sold one at.

4) They want to make sure that anyone who thinks about undercutting them to think twice. Let them have this one sale quickly and they’ll be out of everyone else’s hair.

Overpriced Gem store?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

If you go to the bank or at the airport to exchange your dollars to euros you won’t get anything close to the exchange rate that’s published. So what’s published is absolute best exchange rate and that’s between major banks, not banks to consumers or business, after all banks need to make money on the transaction.

Checking right now the exchange rate listed at XE is 0.7478766398 euros per dollar, at Travelex at JFK it’s 0.6736 which is a 11% difference. At Bank of America it’s 0.7093 or about 5.5%.

So you don’t use a credit card, what are you mailing ANet cash? Debit cards have fees. Paypal has fees.

I’m sorry that you don’t accept that foreign companies set the price out side of their country of origin to take into account fluctuating exchange rates, currency transfer fees and local mandated taxes. They aren’t in the business of giving you a discount if the rates are suddenly in your favor or owe you a refund if it goes the other way. It’s the nature of international commerce.

Try using your exchange rate argument the next time you try to buy a foreign made car, appliance, phone, etc and expect to be asked to leave the store if you go off how they are “stealing” from you.

What should I be doing around Level 65?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

I’m the wrong person to answer because I love the fact I can play anywhere I’ve been with my character, doing whatever I want. I love the fact I don’t have to ask “what I should be playing”.

Exploring and clearing zones is a good use of your time. You two can go and try out other aspects of the game like WvW. Duos can take out supply camps on their own as well as supply convoys and road sentries. Just don’t get upset if a crowd from one of the other two worlds pop up and clean your clock. It’s all part of the experience. Join up with a few dozen from your world to take down larger structures like towers and keeps or join the defense of the one you are in.

Do what’s fun for you two. It’s a game not a job.
