Let see what else ANet said before:
1. HoT will contain a full set of legendary weapons – false

No, 7 months before HoT was dropped they said this:

For now, I’ll say that we’ve been working hard on new legendary weapons, the first handful of which will be introduced in Heart of Thorns, with more to come in subsequent updates.

Same is true with Legendary Armors. All that was promised was work toward the precursor armor via Raiding.

XP isn’t the problem with masteries. XP happens, just play the game. The issue for me were the Mastery Points, especially in core Tyria. While in HoT maps you can acquire a lot simply visiting locations or doing well in adventures, in core Tyria however a lot are tied up in story, in doing 5-man content and being an AP completionist.

Legendary gear is supposed to be legendary. It should be very hard to get shouldn’t it?

I certainly agree that raids shouldn’t be the only way to get it, but there’s always spending a crap-ton to craft it.

It costs a crap-ton to craft it even if you did raids.

Okay looking at the history on the TP and what went on at the time there were two, major shifts in MC supply.

First was the change from the old Daily/Monthly system to the new Login Reward system. Where the new system would reward you 20 Mystic Coins per 28 logins, you could earn 20 from just the old Monthly which could be achieved in a few days. This makes supply affected by how casual the player base is feeling. Sure, it’s only a couple of minutes everyday but depending on life, even booting the PC may not be a daily thing. And while the price shot up from 1.5s to 13s pre HoT, supply was pretty stable. Overall the supply of Mystic Coins dropped 160,000 when they announced the change was coming, down to under 200,000. Even the additional recipes for the guild hall and precursors didn’t significantly impact the price post HoT the rest of 2015.

Then came Winter’s Day 2015, in particular the Winter’s Presence shoulder piece. At the very minimum it costs 150 mystic coins to create the 3 items required. However two of those require Superior Runes and Sigils from the previous Winter’s Day that didn’t drop this Winter’s Day. And while there were a glut of them before, their use in acquiring Winter’s Presence depleted the glut overnight. But you could craft them. Only problem they used Mystic Coins in their crafting recipe, upwards of 1100 more. That depleted the supply of Mystic Coins by 120,000 that day, down to as low as 20,000. It recovered back to 100,000 after Winter’s Day but that was short lived as supply as drained to the 15-20,000 range within a month and has been hovering in the 10-30,000 range most of the time since with the price walking up from 25s to nearly 1g over that time.

So if you think there’s a chance you will ever need Mystic Coins, there’s no reason unless you are very desperate for gold, to sell any you get from the login rewards. Simply on the grounds that the price keeps going up.

TL;DR – Change from Monthly/Daily to Login might have hurt, Mystic Coin supply was done in by the Winter’s Presence shoulder piece needing 150-1250 Mystic Coins to make.

newcomers and returning players can’t even enjoy the new story without paying

This is a major problem. In fact I think it is highly underestimated how bad this is for Anet’s bottom line.

Anet pays a team of people to develop content that they give away for free for two weeks before charging money for that labor. The only way they recoup that loss is through gem store sales and hoping returning players will purchase it.

On top of that they don’t even market the old living world content at all. No advertisements on this website or reddit. No banner ad in the gem store panel. Nothing. Even then, each episode is only 200 gems ($2.50 USD) which is tiny compared to the thousands of dollars in man-hours it cost them to develop each episode.

Anet should at least put up a banner ad for old episodes. I personally think season 2 is worth every penny for the story (it’s about $20 USD in total). They should market that and put it on sale once or twice a year for returning players. I know a lot of returning or brand new players who don’t even know about season 2 and they miss out on some great content.

Now I know some people might argue that returning players should get it for free, but I just don’t agree. It was free for active players as a courtesy for actively supporting the game at the time it was released. $2.50 for an episode is more than fair price for returning players (considering minipets are triple that price and no one complains).

Everyone is always worried about Anet’s budget. Well, I think this would help them and it baffles me they don’t market their own product…

But that isn’t the case with Season 3, it’s free to bank until the next one comes out and they make it clear when it’s coming. I will assume that Season 3 will have a package deal like Season 2 has where it’s 20% cheaper and prorated when buying the package from the gem shop as oppose to the story panel. Yes, $21/1280 is a tad pricey for all of Season 2 which is what, 4 to 6 hours of story content?

But the carrot/stick approach to charging I think is there to keep players returning to play even, during season two, it’s just every two weeks. It’s the “on second thought” schizophrenic nature of the game. On one hand it’s designed around the notion that you the player can not feel obligated to play routinely and take stretches of time off, yet the devs then add mechanics to encourage players to play routinely or miss out.

Trying to decide my build - Ryzen or Intel

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

The issue with Ryzen is that fact it’s really two quad core complexes (CCX), each with 8MB of L3 cache, on a single die (R5 disables 1 or 2 cores on each complex to get a 1600 hex or 1500 quad series) with a relatively “slow” interconnect (tied to the system memory speed) between them, which adds a significant bit of time if a thread running on one quad needs to talk to a thread running on the other quad or access memory from the other CCX’s L3 cache.

That how game patches a week or two out from the R7 launch was able to significantly improve Ryzen framerate while not impacting Intel which isn’t constructed the same way. For Ryzen they just had to group threads that commonly communicate with each other to be assigned to the same CCX. So it’s very much how the game engine is designed as to if it performs similar to or worse than Intel.

And I disagree, the Ryzen core doesn’t “suck”. It’s a pretty sweet advance over the cores in the FX series. It’s just the idiosyncrasies of the overall design of the R5 and R7 series that can exhibit can cause performance between different apps to vary widely between being close to Intel or not.

The X is for E*X*tended Frequency Range which simply means if the conditions are right in terms of temperature, it will push the frequency past max boost, usually more than the non-X version. But if you are going to OC the snot of of either, it really doesn’t matter. It’s more for non-OC systems with upgraded cooling.

It boils down to if you are sensitive to price and what you are planning to do your system.

If you frequently do stuff where lots of active threads like rendering videos, photo shop, professional 3D rendering, then Ryzen is the less expensive alternative.

If you are looking for ultimate game performance and price doesn’t matter, then Intel.

And I disagree with Dawdler, GW2 is one of a handful of games where CPU is as or more important than the GPU due to it’s game engine design and use of Dx9. It is diminishing returns as overall CPU performance increases but CPU core performance does matter.

Is GW2 Worth Getting Into? (2017)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

CONS:
-In terms of content/mechanics, gw2 is very very weak compared with most mmo’s
(One of the most weakest overall mechanics mmo i haver played.)

WoW! (See what I did there? ) — I’m not sure what you are comparing it to, but GW2 is pretty much mechanically, and content-wise, comparable to most of the other games out there, in my experience.

Would you care to expand on what you mean by weak “mechanics” in this case? I’m genuinely curious to understand another point of view so different from my own, because it’s a great chance to learn something!

I’ll take a stab at it. It’s something I’d been thinking about for a while, and it’s rooted in the inspirations the combat designers likely still have.
1. Nintendo Hard.
We see this in their jumping puzzle design the most, but also in the One-Hit KO Fetish. Punishment over challenge. We saw that in the original GW2 release, until it was eased up for new players.
2. Monoliths are cool.
Larger than life critters and armies fighting off giant dragons. Sugoi! Except the problem becomes that anything large enough to threaten a huge number of players ends up negating a huge amount of mitigation tools while simultaneously doing murderous damage, especially in melee.

Aggro control gets brought up a lot around this point, since some want a Trinity game, insisting that it makes encounters better to account for two people specifically doing nothing while the dps encounters all the mechanics somehow makes it more engaging.
Some feel the one-man-army weakens the game, which is untrue. It requires a paradigm shift when it comes to design that the GW2 encounter devs haven’t quiet adapted yet. They’re still trying to build for traditional MMOs instead of the game they have. It’s on a good start with splitting up the zerg in open world, but the rest of dungeon/fractal experience doesn’t really account for it.

I’d had this hash-out with a friend who barely touched HoT and quit, so I’m familiar with the arguments. :P

HoT made me quit pve actually and later i dropped WvW since my spvp was already droppede 3 years ago when i learned they were not good eneught to learn what they were doing wrong, i prefer to play any other mmo even older mmo’s than gw2 pve, it is a disgrace with pretty graphics for me.

Pve feature wise compared with other mmo’s gw2 isnt anything special like i said ust for the sake of pve, they lack of features, the crafting system that is nothing more than a gold and gem sink hole for pretty skills, combat system is based on auto atack cleave spam u can bunker on zerk+hammer guard for dps spam festival, dodge and evades any other game has it as well, even living story isnt anything content special, other games have it as well, so nothing new and nothing really improved compared of other games, where skill usage is more from what is needed at the momment than gimmick rotations(gw2).
Players interaction with the map is just about.. well nothing, theres no point in pve besides follow the storyline? and most players play alone.

gw2 is the worst game experience i haver had, still i keep an eye on that, as a developer we need to learn with the mistakes of others as well.

while mmo’s industry is going towards a more envolvent content and more dependable gameplay where players interaction do really matter Anet is enforcing a complete and “pale” system, they are far from their moto of game inovation, far far form it, imo it feels like they are going backwards.

You’ve quit PvE, WvW and sPvP. So why are you still here posting warning other people off? Is your hatred of the game THAT strong? I don’t really understand this mentality of lingering on a forum simply to warn others from playing. I’m annoyed because by doing what you are doing, you will shorten this game’s lifespan, I game I enjoy, simply because you don’t.

Constructive Feedback on Leather Prices

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Behellagh.1468

My main issue is that a lot of high level/end game content is gated behind gear. I preferred the guild wars 1 system, in which your gear stats were maxed even on the cheap stuff, but you could grind for the prestige armor if you wanted. It was never required for end game content, but people still liked to get their shinies.

In GW2, that’s not the case. I disagree with people in this thread. You DO NEED ascended armor if you want to do high level fractals, raiding, etc.
You can claim it’s only a 2% difference, but I dont see how you can reasonably get to 154 AR without the infusion slots on ascended armor.
I also dont see any competent, decent raid group accepting a person in full exotics. Many raid encounters are straight up dps checks and the extra stats of ascended help PLUS the bonuses from the infusions.

I prefer to spend my time doing things I enjoy in a game. I’d rather be doing raiding or T4 fractals like 100 CM than farming leather or other mats. I just dont enjoy farming. I find it to be tedious and boring and get plenty of that crap in my real job. I’m sure some people love to farm, I’m just not one of them but I dont want to have my game severely limited because of that.

Yes, I have a full set of ascended on one character, but I have multiple different classes that I would like to use in fractals and in raids. Good raiding guilds require you to have multiple characters that can play multiple roles and that means multiple sets of ascended armor.

Of course Fractals require ascended gear. That’s the whole point of the agony mechanic in Fractals since they were introduced. I just don’t consider Fractals “end game” content. I consider them as nearly optional content and the only reason it’s not totally optional is a few optional items require mats from Fractals. In my case Mawdrey II.

Okay then @Raudari, they have the same drop mechanism. Supply numbers on the TP only shows the current amount up for sale, it’s the amount that isn’t selling. There are a few trading sites that attempt to measure supply flowing into and out of the TP by tracking the change in the supply every 4-5 minutes. Up means posted for sale, down means bought. Now they do the same with demand but since there isn’t a fee you can lose by pulling your bid, I don’t trust those numbers being as indicative as the numbers “guestimated” by the changes in supply.

Now according to GW2BLTC, in the last 24 hours the have Gossamer selling 12,500 units while 16,200 units being adding for sale. Now Harded Leather Sections are selling 10,900 units with with 16,500 being added. This helps support the notion that drop methods are similar.

The issue is the supply remaining for Harded Leather Sections that has been dropped into the really pricey supply. If you bought out the supply of Gossamer until you only have 20K left the price would likely be over 10s each (looking at the sales listings). And once it gets that low, those bidding control the how much the price can drop since you can’t offer under the low bid. So yes, there could be a group preventing the price from dropping constantly resetting bids.

Except T6 Leather Sections costing 30 copper wasn’t “reasonable”, it was worthless. That’s why it accumulated over 5 million on the TP before HoT. It wasn’t rock bottom NPC value but it might as well be.

Why do you people act like there is absolutely zero middle ground between 30 copper and 30 silver per section? It makes every argument you guys make look downright silly.

Don’t misunderstand me. 30 silver is outrageous, my issue was about calling 30 copper for T6 and 11 copper for T5 “reasonable”. The supply/demand of these mats pre HoT were as much out of whack then as it is now. It’s just the pendulum swung all the way to the other side now.

That said GW2BLTC best guess is over 12K T6 sections are bought daily from the immediate sale side of the TP, it’s just being bought as fast as it’s posted for sale. As long as there’s enough people willing to pay 30 silver plus for whatever is posted for sale, price isn’t going to go down any time soon.

ANet decided before the game’s launch that a prime source of monthly cash flow was going to come from their Gem/Cash Shop and that would only offer account, cosmetic and convenience items. And that they decided that everyone would have to “pay” to alter their looks. Sure they gave us ways to accumulate T-charges for free but if you wanted to play Fashion Wars 2 with the big boys you will have to fork over the gems to do so. Yes, it use to be a lot cheaper on the way to 80 to change up your look, which is why I wear outfits until I’m 80, but there was always a cost.

It’s 3 transmutation charges per 28 daily logins. They don’t need to be consecutive and it literally takes a minute or two to get the daily login. However city map completion is the easiest.

But since day 1 of the game you could buy a transmutation stone/crystal/charge from the Gem Shop as one of the cheapest items offered. For $10 you can buy 30 charges and have 50 gems left over which could get you trade at the moment for 18 gold The point being the armor system was designed to cost charges from the beginning.

But if a player doesn’t want to use the “free” methods others have outlined to accumulate transmutation charges or buying them direct with gems, sorry, it was part of this game’s DNA since launch.

As long as it drops more than 0, it’s a new source.

But the fact stands that before “the adjustment” that HoT brought with it, leather and cloth was sourced from salvaged drops and bags and due to lack of enough sinks T6 was plentiful. Perhaps THAT is what needs to be looked at again and adjusted. Because while pre-HoT 30c for T6 was ridiculously low, 30s each is ridiculously high.

Likely it was the near 2000 T6 squares per Guild Hall along with the Gossamer Patch and refinement recipe change that drained away the 5 million T6 sections down to 10-20 thousand and pushed it into hording/easier to manipulate status.

Okay I looked at the title question and not the actual question in the body of the OP.

Likely not on popular items as they cause a rush to convert gold to gems and if you aren’t on the leading edge of that, you will pay more for the same amount of gems.

Best course of action is to buy gems on a regular basis outside of sales. I would buy gems with gold on Monday nights in the off chance that a highly desired item introduced on Tuesday would spike the exchange rate. If nothing end up in the store that day, well it’s not like gems go bad.

If you look at a gem exchange rate chart you will see there’s a general rhythm to the rate over the course of a day.

We had farms already in game, mainly for foraging but there were areas with higher densities of ore and lumber nodes.

But I understand where Frizz is coming from. Leather and cloth were suppose to be farmed from salvaged unwanted drops or bags. How many discard white/blue/green rather than sell on the TP or salvage them?

But it’s not like there wasn’t a glut of T5 and T6 leather before HoT. Something needed to be down to absorb that glut. It’s just even though the glut is now gone, demand is still high, even higher with the push to 500 leatherworking as a requirement to ascended gear, other than raiding. I think the salvage amounts or refinement recipe could be tweaked a tad for the new reality. But that’s a big step and it’s a knife edge to get the balance right between glut and scarcity. The farm is a stop gap method to acquire what you need from play rather than TP.

Mo is wrong there – People don’t just hoard thing they see as cheap – they also hoard thing they see as too expensive-but-critical to sell… like basic crafting materials. Such as Leather.

The “Leather Farm” produces little to no leather.

See Mystic Coins. And while true, you need players not interested in crafting at the moment to farm and sell mats other than when it’s a daily. But if they see the price is very high, it’s true, they may choose to save/hoard rather than sell so when they do decide to craft especially when the price keeps marching up.

ANet SHOULD have added currencies and map specific mats AS the maps were introduced. A key ring would help as well but I’m not expecting that. This Reddit thread talks about the state of material storage/wallet update.

I’m coming back after a 2 year break for personal reasons only to find that to even make legendary now your FORCED to PVP which is total BS since i like PVE i never liked PVP in any game!! It would have been ok if they kept the badges of honor instead of making you do there kitten PVP glad i found out before i wasted money on there overpriced expansion

What are you talking about Willis? You get legendary weapons the exact same way, where do you get the idea you need to do PvP?

Constructive Feedback on Leather Prices

Too many people who don’t understand how economics work expected the farm to suddenly cause the price to plummet. But to do that players have to do the farm and sell the mats they get from it. If enough players expect others to do that for them, we get the current situation. Those doing it are doing it for their own leather needs first and when that need is satisfied, they stop. Even if they don’t, anything sold on the TP is bought instantly, no chance to get in an undercutting war and without that, prices aren’t going to drop for the non-farmer.

And like I’ve already said, adding a new sink with PvP and Fractal players needing to level leatherworking to 500 and craft grandmaster marks isn’t helping.

Hold on … DEFLATING mithiril and wood prices? You guys need to check your facts.

I have some constructive feedback on leather prices too … if it’s not a price you are willing to pay, you have a great opportunity to farm leather … as intended.

Spending Mithril and Wood also requires leather in a lot of cases (Though not as badly as cloth). So, yes. Because the low supply for leather down, it has also reduced the demand for everything that would be eating more plentiful resources.

The price is not one we’re willing to pay in the quantities we want, so we don’t use leather. As such, Cloth, Metal, and Wood recipes with a leather component languish because nobody’s willing to pay for the leather.

Farming doesn’t provide a reasonable quantity in a reasonable amount of time, so we largely do without. Meanwhile, the materials we’d like to use but can’t because we’re unwilling to pay for the leather either stockpiles uselessly, or gets sold off for far less than it otherwise would because people aren’t as willing to buy at higher prices because they too are stuck on the leather supply.

Sorry, not seeing that.

HoT dropped on Oct 23, 2015 which was when most of the leather sinks were introduced.

So comparing prices from Oct 9th, 2015 (2 weeks before HoT) to April 7, 2017

T5 Mithral Ore – 54c then – 61c now – up 13%

T1 Green Wood Log – 1s2c then – 61c now – down 40%
T2 Soft Wood Log – 2s17c then – 1s96c now – down 10%
T3 Seasoned Wood Log – 2s55c then – 2s70c now – up 6%
T4 Hard Wood Log – 1s90c then – 2s13c now – up 12%
T5 Elder Wood Log – 82c then – 1s88c now – up 129%
T6 Ancient Wood Log – 7s66c then – 6s88c now – down 10%

Other than T1 and T6 Wood Logs, which aren’t used crafting T7 Spiritwood Planks, only T2 Soft Wood Logs are down and only by 10%.

I love it … if anything, T5 leather drops in SIGNIFICANT abundance in Doric lake. I mean, there is nothing less reasonable than complaining about the price of something you can farm hundreds of as a zerg. How lazy can people get? You wanted a leather farm to avoid the expensive prices on the TP for leather, then there is complaining about the price of T5 leather on the TP … and it’s the MOST frequent drop in Doric Light … no wonder these complaints can’t be taken seriously.

That may be true but it’s not accruing on the TP or stabilizing/lowering the price. So either nobody wants to farm Lake Doric in general, leather farm specifically, or the usual suspects farmers are all doing SAB.

Or, more likely, RIP and in GW3.

I think you mean “RIP and goodbye ANet.” As NCSoft/Nexon pulls all their funding to funnel into another game like they’ve done with many other promising games their meddling and dishonest business practices have utterly tanked.

Since GW2 is still pulling in 6 times the quarterly income City of Heroes did before the plug was pulled and Wildstar is still alive with income hovering around end of CoH levels, GW2 is going nowhere yet.

Also Nexon sold all their NCSOFT stock at a loss before HoT dropped when the take over attempt of the Board of Directors failed. Find a new strawman.

Back to the subject at hand, I too believe there will be a much shorter hype train between announcement and shipping of the next expansion, on the order of 4-6 months during they will still be dropping content in game. I say dropping after next lunar new year event and the last living story dropping after Halloween so very little content drought.

Thank you token mindlessly antagonistic internet user, I didn’t say it was going anywhere, it was suggested by someone else that the game continued to decline, note, not as it currently is, but as it could be, we would see a GW3 before a conclusion to GW2, which I don’t agree with, if this next expansion tanks GW2 down that far, there will be neither a conclusion to GW2 nor a GW3, if for nothing else than a lack of financial investment. No stockholder is going to put a dime in to a development team that has delivered two failed expansions in a row.

Add to the follower after him, Nexon pulled out of NCSoft, NCSoft did not pull out of GW2, and still has a significant enough holding over the company to have a say in its workings, including the design of the game.

NCSOFT still owns 100% of ArenaNet indirectly through it’s 100% ownership of NC West Holdings which currently owns 100% of ArenaNet, Carbine Studios and NC Interactive.

And sorry but your post certainly sounded like you were raising the old disproved Nexon puppet master conspiracy coupled with general hatred over NCSOFT’s less than stellar support of Western MMO IP. That kind of post simply triggers me.

HoT increased the sinks for leather with the introduction of patches. While the intention may have been to “level” the cost to craft ascended gear by raising the cost for everybody, the sink without a corresponding added source simply caused the price to climb as more players reach level 80 and want to go on and get ascended gear.

Now since they added the leather farm in LWS3E4, (which required HoT to access) it doesn’t appear to be helping. Now that can simply be players who run the farm using the mats themselves rather than sell them on the TP. Self interest over making a buck. But with the prices still increasing, not enough entrepreneurs have stepped up to farm yet.

However when one hand gives the other takes away, the “equalization” of cost of ascended gear in PvP and Fractals forces more players to level leathercrafting to 500 and then consume even more leather to make the needed grandmaster marks. What’s the point in adding a source if you are just going to add another sink?

My solution is to tweak the base refinement costs by adjusting the recipe for squares to get more than one square for a fix number of sections. Getting two or three squares out would allow finer than the 33% increase T5 and the 50% T6 had in refinement costs that happened because the output was one.

No. For the reasons others have already listed. Primarily it’s too much of a time sync and has too little payoff in terms of drawing in new players and retaining old ones.
