100 gold to craft light armor

Well since T6 insignia for a set is around 70 gold, 30 gold for 6 pieces might be a thing, certainly for medium.

With rough numbers, berserkers cloth is 60g for insignia leather, 10g for ectos, another 13g for blood and finally around 6g more for the gear pieces (ignoring some of the cheaper stuff).

So of course it’s a thing. I really dont get why people get hung up on the number. It’s almost 100g to craft the simplest of exotic armor, yes.

Wasn’t going to bother researching hard numbers, just back of the envelop ballpark sanity check which seemed possible. Wasn’t doubting it like some.

Anet reduced drop rates, increased refinement costs, added squares to existing recipients that had no leather in the past, set bare minimum prices on tp, and then added leather in large quanities in their new recipients. Oh also forced pvp players and the like to craft with leather to get their ascended. Everything about leather is broken and it’s a sick joke on Anets part that is for sure.

I haven’t see a reduced drop rate for leather. Also they can’t set bare minimum prices on the TP unless you are talking about the NPC price which hasn’t changed from 8 copper since launch for T6.

I do agree that adding another drain on leather with Fractal and PvP ascended crafting requirements without adding another source is an issue. I don’t have an issue with balancing PvP and Fractal acquisition with marks, just not providing additional sources for T2-T5 leather. Well I guess T6 is needed for those who have to level up leatherworker but that’s one time.

Depends on your starting assumptions.

ANet’s seems to be if everything eventually revolve around gold and storage is somewhat limited, players “logically” will sell what they don’t need today or in excess of collections storage (250-2000 is enough for everybody). Doubly so if the price is attractive to sell, thus pushing the price down as supply exceeds demand.

Except savvy players realize that selling now will cost them 18+% more to buy later if the price remains stable but that may be fine over the long term. Now if the item is increasing in price faster than the general economy, maybe selling is a bad idea. A single mule character with default bag slots equip with 20 slot bags can hold 100 stacks or 25,000 mats.

So I think ANet assumes players run lean with mats they don’t need while players fill their collections, only then notice the price and only then decide if selling or saving for a rainy day is more favorable to them. I’m ignoring the players who are actively speculating, who buy and hold as a matter of course.

Of course my collections can handle 2000 each now but it’s the same strategy I used when it was 250 or 1000.

Sure they could have nerfed the recipes, at least the refinement one, say 3:1 to 5:2 but I don’t think they will change the patch recipe just for T6 insignia. I like recipes across tiers to be the same ratio of components, with the exception of T7 because, T7. So that leaves drop rates for the farm they added. What is enough on a personal scale to satisfy the player and maybe provide incentive enough through selling on the TP to do them without the “tragedy of the commons” happening.

OK … say you’re asking me if it takes a year to get 10 hardened leather squares from the farm? No I don’t think it does.

No, I am saying it is a valid question to ask, even if the answer may vary from person to person.

I brought up 10 in a year to show that most people would not find it adrquate. So despite it being subjective there comes a point where it doesn’t help anyone.

A realistic scenario would be to ask how long it would take to gather the 180 needed for a set of armor.

It’s not relevant if some people find the rate of leather you get from the farm adequate. I mean, the very fact that this is subjective is exactly what it’s not a relevant question … Anet can’t reasonably choose a rate of leather drop that EVERYONE will find adequate. That’s just ridiculous. There is no objective way to kitten if the farm is successful … if you’re using subjective ways to measure it.

Do you find 9 hours acceptable, solely for the leather?

Does anyone here actually have a point of reference for this? How long did it take to get 180 through farming prior to Doric Lake? How does this question even matter?

A drop rate that everyone would find adequate would drop the price back into the 10s of copper as it was pre-HoT. What players need to do is plan ahead, farm a bit every few days so you build up a personal supply when you decide you need it, even if it’s not 180 for an entire set it would significantly decrease your out of pocket expense.

Except we live in a society now that demands immediate gratification. That’s why it’s all about rushing through the content as fast as possible and then complain there is nothing to do anymore.

Oh quit with that kitten “argument” already.

This comment is proof that you wouldn’t be satisfied if leather dropped so quickly from this farm that the price dropped to 10s of copper, so obviously not everyone would find that drop rate acceptable.

Stop trying to pass pure kitten off as actual arguments.

It’s no more hyperbole than those on the other side of the discussion is using to frame those who disagree with them as “TP Mavens” who don’t want to see the price drop.

So throwing this back into your court, what would be an acceptable drop rate of T6 sections in an hour of the leather farm, for you? Enough to make six insignia? one?

What’s the T6 rate for ore or wood, since those nodes are sparse.

I don’t know about Russia, but I believe unlike my country (UK), the US gem price excludes VAT. Not sure what the VAT in the US is exactly, but I imagine it’s close to 20%.

Sales tax varies across the country, mine is 6.35%. We are still billed it but because it’s not baked in the price in the US is listed without tax.

Anyways it’s the company ANet hired to handle processing who then includes whatever tax is required for that region or state being sold to. At the time of launch $10 US, excluding local taxes, was set to be either 10€ or £8.50 including a 20% VAT due to NC Europe being based in the UK and hasn’t changed to reflect current exchange rates. Gems are actually cheaper, pre-VAT today than it was at launch.

Nobody is complaining about a saving mats, if it was an issue then ANet wouldn’t be selling collection expanders.

No, ANet’s assumption is that Mystic Coins would be handled like every other mat, as the price goes up, it would reach a point where players would sell rather than hold. This is normally true if new supply is elastic, that players can control acquiring more of that material.

Mystic Coins however are rationed out a little bit at a time and while ANet did add a “farm” to get one a day, it’s not easy. And as the price on the TP reached a tipping point, players who had sold the ones they got stopped. As long as the price keeps marching upwards, why sell? Especially if not selling is what’s keeping the price going higher.

It would be interesting to see, using the average daily addition of Mystic Coins to the game., how many “days” of inventory of Mystic Coins are on the player base,

Any plans for GW2 on consoles?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Of course GW2 is not optimised for consoles… neither is TERA but that is coming out, unless the developers foresaw a console port 6 years later which is highly unlikely. What are TERA’s development team doing that ArenaNet cannot do to make their MMO run on consoles? This is actually a genuine question and not a rhetoric by the way.

Tera was developed on Unreal Engine 3, there are optimized versions of the engine for the major consoles. The GW2 game engine was developed in house for dual core PCs. It’s not heavily threaded so the eight, less powerful cores, of the XBone and PS4 is a detriment.

You just aren’t getting it. I don’t think the screenshot was faked in any way.

Here is why: back in January 2017, on 1 day the supply of mystic coins suddenly tanked, and the price shot through the roof, over 4 gold each.

A dev confirmed at the time that 30k mystic coins were sold in the trading post that day. Someone asked if it was 1 player buying all of them, or was it that many total sold that day. The dev responding by saying “it was 2 people”. That’s right. 2 players bought 30k mystic coins in a single day. https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/5nbdxj/someone_just_bought_10k_mystic_coins_price_is/dcb764k/?context=1000

Which furthers my belief that someone posting a screenshot of him/her having a guild vault full of dozens of stacks of mystic coins isn’t trolling nor do I believe it’s a photoshop job. Because in the past it has been proven that only a few players had purchased massive quantities of the kitten ed things.
———————————
Here is what happened before living world season 3 episode 4 released:

A dev said they’re going to do something about hardened leather. Then later they said that Lake Doric was going to have a place to farm leather. So yeah, naturally, the community assumed the leather farm in Lake Doric was the answer to the hardened leather issue, even though ArenaNet never specifically stated the leather farm was to address the issue. Then again, I don’t recall a dev ever correcting the community by saying the leather farm wasn’t the answer to the hardened leather issue or that they still had plans to do something about it. Because of their silence on the matter, the community further believed the leather farm in Lake Doric was answer to the hardened leather issue. And of course, it wasn’t a solution at all. Hardened leather drops from the leather farm aren’t any better than anywhere else in the game, and naturally the prices haven’t gone down in the trading post (at least not much since the farm was added). They prices have been pretty stable.

First of all I didn’t say you were trolling but the one posting the image might be. No different than using a chat code to say you got a precursor or some equally expensive thing to drop at some event instead of the usual daily rare with two blues and a green. Plus it’s a lot easier for a large guild to accumulate that many through conventional means. I still believe that the amount found across the tens of thousands of “normal” players far out number what a few groups are holding.

Also while it’s true that Mystic Coins are used for cosmetic items, this IS Fashion Wars 2. And I don’t consider Legendary Weapons and soon armors with their ability to change stats just a pretty skin.

And it doesn’t alter the fact that ANet added a challenging group event to earn additional ones if you want. Which sounds just like the language they used to describe the leather farm.

As for T6 leather, I don’t believe any dev said “we are fixing T6 leather prices”. They may have acknowledge the price is out of whack and they will “investigate”. The rest was the community echo chamber on Reddit and the forums twisting that into “fixing T6”. And why should ANet correct this false belief? Did they correct the community’s redefining “suspended” to mean “canceled” when it came to delaying additional new Legendary Weapons? The community already decide what it means and any attempt to correct them would be seen as “lying” or “breaking promises”. So the original statement is long forgotten but instead is collectively “remembered” as “we are fixing T6 leather”.

And really, it costs 420-490 gold for the ascended mats needed to make a full set of ascended armor, the 65 gold for the T6 leather sections to make the insignia isn’t that significant.

Oh God no, I wasn’t talking Dx12, just Dx11. Dx12 has yet to show the promised massive increases in performance that was hyped. Most of the time there’s a loss compared to Dx11. That might just be immature hardware and drivers to support the API as well as devs not yet having a good handle on how to use Dx12 features. It’s possible even the most modern game engines need to be redesigned to get the most out of Dx12.

Vulkan on the other hand seems to have a noticeable performance improvement over OpenGL, at least on AMD (they always supported OpenGL better than nVidia).

But until GW2’s game engine is designed to support multiple render threads, Dx11 simply doesn’t buy anything other than a buzzword checkbox.

DX11/12? Why? DX12 would’t be available for many players since it’s available only on Win10 and DX11 would not give significant performance boost. Only new API that is worth adding is Vulkan, that would really help in situations (especially for slower computers) where there’s a lot of draw calls – like WvW for example.

Vulkan and DirectX 12 would have the same effect and would help with that … if, and only if, multiple concurrent threads are working on building the graphics stuff to submit. eg: also engine rewrite territory to take advantage of either of them.

The difference between dx12 and vulkan pointed out by theSacred was that while dx12 is available only on Windows 10 (and thus is not widespread enough to warrant putting effort in engine rewrite), Vulcan is available also on older systems and thus offers better “gain to effort” ratio.

That assumes of course ANet wants to expand their engine to other platforms than Windows and Mac, whenever a native Mac engine is done.

Have you ever tried that ley-line anomoly event?

Yes, for a time right after it came out, once the event was understood. Never had an issue but it was done as a guild so lots of players in a squad rather than the usual flash mob of randoms. But it took quite a bit of time to complete.

When you need hundreds of mystic coins for whatever reason, 1 coin per day from an almost impossible to complete event isn’t worth the effort. Even if you can manage to complete the event every day, it’s still not worth the effort.

Which is what I said, for each player it isn’t much but game wide it may have been a plus for supply.

The problem with mystic coins isn’t the supply. Just before your post I submitted proof that what has been constantly said is that, some players are hoarding thousands and thousands of mystic coins.

No all you showed was a screenshot that may be proof or may be a photoshop troll. I don’t disagree that players are holding on to them, I have over 1500 accumulated over the years.

Mystic coins are needed mostly for cosmetic stuff, not anything you actually need for the game. For example, you need ascended gear for high level fractals for the agony infusions and crafting said gear requires a lot of hardened leather. You can do fractals without it, but it’s going to be a lot more difficult and you may get hassled by other players for it. Before living story season 3 episode 4 released, a dev said they were going to “do something about hardened leather”, and later said that Lake Doric was going to include a leather farm. This implied that there is a real need for leather and not enough supply in the game.

Other than for Insignia, you don’t need “a lot” of T6 leather to craft ascended armor. Only 30 sections per Insignia/piece. Hardly “a lot” when you are talking hundreds of T5 mats per piece. And it was the player base that assumed the addition of a leather farm was to exclusively provide T6 rather than providing a much needed way to farm leather for all tiers.

As I said in the post you quoted, the Players’ sole currency is TIME. But since ascended is locked behind a variety of time gates, taking 25-36 days to craft the T7 mats requited, is getting 3-4 T6 leather sections a day too much? I would think gathering the T2-T5 mats per day to craft the T7 mat a much tougher obstacle to overcome.

ANet has said that they look at supply flowing into the game Vs being consumed and try to have supply around 10% higher. This may work if they are looking to nerf an excess of supply flowing into the game however consumption may simply be low because the unit price is so high and keeps moving upwards. This discourages outright selling because the next day/week/month it will cost more.

Now ANet has added additional ways to acquire both Mystic Coins and T6 Leather Sections. For Mystic Coins there’s the Ley-Line Anomaly Event that spawns every two hours that once a day will drop a Mystic Coin per account and for T6 Leather the LWS3E4 “leather farm”.

The thing with both of these is from the 10 KM level ANet may be seeing an uptick in supply flowing into the game and figure job done. Problem is for the individual player on the ground a single Mystic Coin or a dozen T6 Leather Sections isn’t worth the time relative to the reward, as you could take that time and do an activity that would supply you with more gold than it would cost to buy a similar amount from the TP, so why bother?

The raw currency a Player has is time. That’s why time gated materials hurt. That’s why materials/items behind RNG hurt. Now one purpose of the TP is to help alleviate the issues with RNG because if Player A doesn’t need X and Player B does, the TP will act as the intermediary. But that in reality relies on GOLD as the medium of exchange and so if nearly everything can be bought with gold, players evolve play styles optimizing on acquiring gold in the shortest amount of time.

Now if it only took five minutes instead of fifteen to do the Ley-Line Anomaly Event to get the daily Mystic Coin, more players would likely do it. Because lets be honest, nobody is going out of their way to do this event for 200+ karma and 50+ copper.

The Leather Farm is more problematic. If it’s too rewarding for the time invested, it could cause a flood of leather of all tiers flowing into the TP and tanking the price and we’ll be right back to where we were pre-HoT. Because unlike ore and lumber, the leather farm isn’t selective as to what tier(s) you get which means you will sell off the tiers you don’t care about. Now if it dropped only T5 and T6, since it’s a level 80 zone, that would be different. True T2-T5 is used in crafting T7 leather so they aren’t totally useless but it’s easy to forget that if you want to craft a new set of insignia today because the meta changed or your role in the raid changed and you only care about T6.

First, LS2 can be bought in the gem shop at a discounted rate, all missing episodes at 20% off. That should save some gems/gold.

I don’t consider putting in bids for gear, then salvaging and selling the mats as TP manipulation but some might. It is boring but profitable. Same can be said about buying bags and opening them. But you are trusting RNGesus to smile on you. But if you open enough of them you get the sense of the “average”. You just have to trust the “average” over the long term.

Then there are “quick” mat runs, hopping from waypoint to waypoint that routinely have a lot of T2-T4 mats you can grab in a minute or two before jumping to the next one on the list.

Method I know of to display weapons while dancing is first you need to be in a combat stance that draws your weapon. Then /dance bring up the hero panel while dancing and unequip and then reequip the weapon(s).

I frequently have my ele dancing with her staff in hand, looking like a majorette in search of a marching band.

You can also display a backpiece by hiding and unhiding it while dancing.

How much time needed create Storage Material?

Yes, I know, I read the posts. Didn’t say anything differently. When the deadline approaches and you need to decide what MUST be done to ship a release, the wallet and collection additions is an easy cut, to be added at a latter date. Think this is what happen to LS2 currencies as well, they were added to the wallet nearly a year later.

There must be a bottleneck we aren’t aware off surrounding the wallet and collection storage additions. Alterations to the player account database perhaps?

Episode 5: Flashpoint trailer

in Living World

Did anyone else actually google “flashpoint”?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flashpoint_

There has to be two timelines. My guess is that Lazarus is . . . . . . . Kasmeer. In the future, Kasmeer went back in time to impersonate Lazarus and save the world. What we are seeing in the trailer is “present day” Kasmeer seeing Kasmeer of the future/the Lazarus impersonator for the first time.

Did you google the definition?

Flashpoint – a point, place, or situation in which sudden anger or violence could happen

The trailer is impressive, but I’m a little worried that this is the second-to-last episode for the season. So in another three months or so, the last episode will see release around August or early September. Hopefully, the expansion will soon follow a few months after that.

The game can’t take another content drought.

Well in theory the expansion development was being done in parallel. In theory no major game system is being updated.

I don’t think it was their intention to encourage bag, bank and shared slot sales. The currency/mat from new maps simply fall through the cracks. Now keys are another thing.

may 2nd hype thing is… no legendary armor teasing in that trailer soooo.
.. “legendary armor on heart of the sand gw2#s next expansion” hue

They only said you could work toward the Legendary Armor in HoT, not that you could get it.

IIRC she was also talking about revamping the entire UI for material storage. It so easy to overlook the work required to make a descent UI.

"nearly 400 people at ArenaNet" speculation

Quite possible they staffed up for the expansion with contract employees. The assumption is they learned from the two content gaps around HoT and wish not to repeat it so they simply can’t halt content on the live game to put all hands on an expansion with a drop dead release date.

Bearhugger is right. I would guess only a third, even less are what players think of as “programmers”. For an MMO it’s all about asset generation.
