If you save the 16 character “secret code” you get to setup the authenticator, you can set it up again if you accidentally delete WinAuth.
Why does it seem that people can’t even make an effort to the save information needed to use or reinstall a product they paid money for. It’s like buying a motorcycle and losing all its keys because you didn’t use it over the winter. I’ve seen enough posts in the support forum from players who “lost” the game’s serial number. Has services like Steam made everyone lazy? Here is your proof of purchase, let’s toss it in the rubbish bin cause you’ll never need that again to prove you’re the owner of the account.

You can make one on the Beta when the beta is up and running.

It depends if you frequently log in from multiple locations or your ISP reassigns your IP address frequently. If neither of these things are true, you go through it once, check remember this location, and never asked again.
RIP City of Heroes
It’s a false exchange rate. Even though the gold to gems cost ratio has gotten higher, the gems to gold ratio has not appreciably changed.
On the TP in game the rates are synced. If one rises x%, the other rises x%.

We got one more day. We’ll see what that brings.

I bought another Halloween Pail last night. 3000 Candy Corn is less than 6 gold.

You can measure the excitement of the playerbase over an item by simply looking at the exchange rate history. Barely any movement at today.

The other thing that is on sale today is the living story season 2 complete pack. It is 20% off. Don’t know if that’s always there or not.
That’s what it’s normally is. A 20% discount over the individual cost. See the note on the wiki page.

So lets say someone converts 800 GEMS into 150 Gold, about what the current exchange is right now. If they were to save that 150 gold for after this sale and when exchange rates goes back to normal, that 150 gold can possibly be exchanged again for more than 800 GEMs?
Remember the exchange rates aren’t the same in both directions.
There would have to be a major drop in the rate just to convert back to 800 gems. It’s more of a sure thing to buy Gems, not while an event like this is going on of course, and hold them for a very long time. A year ago you could buy 100 gems for only 12.5-13 gold. And today if you sell you could get 18 gold.
You would need the exchange rate to drop back down to under 18-19g per 100 for that to even break even.

ANet destroyed the electro dye cartel with the flood of new supply.
What it did was wipe out the small cluster of high bids that kept a cap on low ask. Electro Blue went of a high bid of 701g to 70g in 5 minutes and new supply were priced relative to this.
Some may decide the time is now to “invest” in electro dyes but it took 5 months for Electro Blue to move from it’s current price to where it was before they were introduced. High bid is now 170g.
This is an opportunity to get these dyes, not just the exclusive but the normal rare and uncommon dyes from Taimi’s Kit at a more reasonable price however you prefer to buy them (bids or asks).

Tami’s dye on sale 5/250, 1 time. There’s goes that market. And the exchange rate for the day.

Envy, the question you need to ask yourself is would you rather see them now and give ANet time to balance them before HoT’s launch, or face them in a possible unbalanced state in a little over a month? Either way you will have to face them while they aren’t properly “tuned” so is it better now or later?
RIP City of Heroes
The Account Bump and Jump Start were discounted when their individual components went on sale as well. So the price dropped while keys, bags and bank slots were on sale. That is totally reasonable in my book.

If you want to listen to YouTubers discuss the week’s news about Guild Wars 2, AuroraPeachy hosts Guild Gab on Twitch with the main portion uploaded to YouTube on Thursday or Friday. She, BogOtter and Jebro did a post PAX announcement show.
WoodenPotatoes is really big.
Should note that nearly all of these people are fairly pro Guild Wars 2, which would annoy those players who only sees an empty glass (not even half empty) and will tell you about it continuously for three flipping years.
These YouTubers will call out things they don’t like but don’t expect them to rage over things like expansion price, content amount, P4F, etc. as they all see the glass pretty full.
RIP City of Heroes
The one feature of the pre-purchace that is useful before HoT goes live is the beta weekends. What is wrong advertising that? Reminds those who have HoT to go and participate and those who don’t that this is a benefit they could have.
The outcry about this is ridiculous considering where it was displayed and how small it was.

ANet is just channeling their inner Asura.
Facing players with unfamiliar abilities must remind you back to the time when you first started PvP.
But be happy with the knowledge that data from your match will provide the necessary information to tune these new elite specializations. And look on the bright side, this early expose to them gives you more time to derive a counter.

Nothing to write home about. 2 Minis (which I didn’t have before), a backpack skin I already had, two T5 crafting bags, couple of boosters and 2 scraps. Think I also got some boost enhancement powder and a transmutation charge.

Actually they aren’t part of the bit maps. I see another instance of Coherent_UI just while the loading screens are up so I’m thinking web server overlay.

This is the problem testing an MMO, you need lots of players to do a proper test.
If they had a dedicated beta server region (need 3 for WvW) I doubt there would be enough players for either WvW or populate enough maps in central Tyria to do a proper test. Plus beta players are likely playing mostly with the elite specializations. The devs need to see how they work with the non-elite professions in all game modes, including PvP.
If you are upset now just wait until the game launches and elite specializations are around all the time.
RIP City of Heroes
I get 3 shards every day via the daily. That’s more than I got playing daily via leveling beyond 80 before the change.
While I can see players who play for hours upon hours but not a lot of days would hate the change it’s been positive for me.
RIP City of Heroes
Well that explains the spike to over 30g per 100 gems.
RIP City of Heroes
Winauth isn’t getting any code from an external device beyond the 16 character “secret code” you manually set it up with. Of course if you have a keyboard logger or your system is being remotely accessed so they can fetch the winauth data file, you have bigger issues. 2FA isn’t there to fix that.
2FA is there because too many web e-mail services have either gotten rooted or accounts brute forced to gain access. Authenticator setup doesn’t e-mail a code, it only displays it. It gets around the problem of a 3rd party also having access to your e-mail. SMS or voice messaged the same reasoning. Just too many players who lost their accounts got their e-mail hacked and this avoids e-mail.
RIP City of Heroes
I feel cheated by your business model by discounting the game to be 10.00$ when you knew it would be released for free in the future.
It is very sneaky and unfair considering your status in the MMO industry, and in fact pretty shady too.
I want my refund for my second account as I and everyone else bought it thinking the game would continue to be a Buy to Play model. While also thinking my purchase was not really some poor companies method at crowd funding a low population game.
Had their been more truth to your real intentions perhaps I would not mind. But there was not. And so this is where I stand.
The Play for Free core game does come with some QoL restrictions. Fewer bag slots, limited TP access, no gold to gem conversion, severe chat restrictions, 2 vs 5 character slots, etc. None of which you have with a paid account. Some people may not feel crippled by those limits placed on P4F.
The expansion is still Buy to Play. P4F accounts won’t get access to anything in the expansion, just as paid core game owners who don’t buy HoT.
If you still want a refund, somebody has already posted a link. But before using it create a P4F account and see if you could live with the limits placed on it. If you can, get your refund, otherwise enjoy the game.
RIP City of Heroes
Once this sale is over the exchange rates should drop off. Before the sale started, the rate for gold to gem was in the 20-21 silver/100 gems, it may not drop back that low but the high exchange rate does encourage those with cash to buy gems and convert them to gold which lowers the current rate of 30-31 silver/100 gems.
Edit: I buy a few gems every Monday evening, converting a fix percentage of my gold. I had over 5000 gems going into this sale. The next sale, not just introduction of new HoT related items, is likely around the Christmas-New Year holidays.

Wait there was a gem store sale? Why wasnt this promoted more?1 I missed loads!
It’s an annual thing on the game’s anniversary. It’s in the blog, on the news page of the patcher when it started and bringing up the gem store any time during this and checking promotions would have shown you the sale.
This is like complaining there was a sale on your favorite cereal but you couldn’t be bothered to check the weekly circular or even walk down the cereal aisle when you stopped to pick up milk.

@Ghost Wolf
You currently can buy a Dye Pack from the Gem Shop for 160-200 gems depending on quantity. They give you 5 common and 2 uncommon or rare dyes.
A misfire on the Gem Store pre-sale and the “list” price of the Account Kits suggests that Account Bound Unidentified Dyes are coming at a bulk price of 10 gems each.
The core reason that uncommon and rare dyes are so expensive is that their creation rate is low. Their creation rate is low because of RNG and the cost to create uncommon and rare unidentified <hue> dye kits can be expensive and are rarely profitable unless you source your own materials.
And lets not forget popularity, whether for personal use or as an “investment”.
Want prices to come down. Attack the reasons why it cost so much to make if you don’t source your own mats.
ANet doesn’t have to sacrifice long term sales at the gem shop for short term gains. They are doing fine.

What’s the issue on opening them when you get them? Never understood why people let chests pile up.
RIP City of Heroes
I was quibbling over the use of the word wardrobe in the OP and title. The wardrobe is only for armor and weapon skins and it wouldn’t be an appropriate place to store “toys”. Having another tab on the Hero Panel makes more sense.
Also if ANet keeps converting per character gem shop items to account wide, it reduces their income opportunities. If they did change them, expect a price hike the way they did with gathering tools.

Good call and thanks. How I got part 6 unlocked without doing or unlocking any of parts 1 – 5 escapes me, and I’d not have guessed that.
All you needed to do was login, even for a moment, when it first came out.

500 gems is roughly 130 gold. Sprockets are currently, after fees and taxes, roughly 2.3 silver each. 20% chance per wack for a sprocket, 4 copper per wack with a ori pick. That’s 50 copper per wack savings so 26K wacks or 8.7K nodes harvested to pay off the watchwork pick.
Of course this completely ignores the convenience and 0 inventory space for spares which is really the purpose of these tools. It’s just the watchwork pick pays for itself in 1/12th the time.
It’s actually 33% chance per whack, so your savings are higher.
Trust me, I did the research on it.
Hmm. Someone nuked the 20% chance out of the wiki since the last time I looked.

I can’t seem to see anyone saying anything about 20% anywhere. Hmm

Ahh right. In any case unless they’ve changed the rate of dropping I don’t think my researching time has gone to waste ^^
Well it looked to be a guess anyways. I’ve always thought it felt closer to 1/3rd.

It depends, Can I use Elite specialization in PvP if I am free player?
If not, it is pay to win.
You are assuming that Elite Specializations will own PvP.
RIP City of Heroes
I’m looking at it as item classification. I only brought up the wallet and currencies as an example of classification determines where it’s stored and where it’s stored determines where and how they are accessed.
Currently when you buy an actual item from the gem shop, you get one of them. Sure some you have to “activate” to get them moved to a storage location but you still get one of them.
Gem bought “mounts”, gathering tools, salvage kits and special trading area access aren’t the kind of items that are intended to be easy to share between characters. They want you do buy duplicates. Not everything from the Gem Shop has to be accessible from any character at any time.
But I can see your point, it’s a pointless flavor item rather than being useful. Maybe they can add a “mounts” tab to the Hero page.

Do you have it unlocked already? The bulk pack scales pricing and only unlocks the chapters you don’t already have unlocked.
Check the Story Journal on your Hero tab.
RIP City of Heroes
Okay, we are having a language/terminology issue here. The wallet is strictly for currencies, collections are strictly crafting materials and the wardrobe are strictly armor and weapon skins.
Items such as minis, dyes, outfits, finishers and mail carriers are account unlocks but don’t fit in any of the previous areas and are only accessible via your Hero screen.
However toys and convenience items like the gem shop gathering tools, salvage kits, “mounts” and access items like the royal pass are individual items. You get one of them, not one on every character.
You want to share, pass them through the bank.
RIP City of Heroes
I did buy the aviator cap in the last year? six months? So they aren’t like bunny ears, reading or hipster glasses.

People who are getting to 80 in three days are nutjobs. That isn’t the normal amount of time it takes, 80-120 hours of normal PvE play is a more reasonable estimate. Yes, there are short cuts.
But this isn’t a game where being max level unlocks the “real” content.
RIP City of Heroes
Elite Specializations are nothing more than sub classes form the old D&D. They aren’t more or less powerful, just different strengths and weaknesses.
RIP City of Heroes
Beta is an entirely separate account. It’s just like a test server. Whatever happens there doesn’t affect your main account and whatever happens in your main account doesn’t affect the beta account, unless they take another snapshot of your bank/wardrobe.
Why is that so difficult to grasp?
RIP City of Heroes
I get why it’s there, but it’s so ugly plastered all over the artwork. There is a tonne of black space it could be sorted into. Like, just put a clickable HoT logo in the bottom corner. Have it flash like the original in game HoT notice maybe.
Well if the load screens still had a hint area at the bottom of the screen, it would have likely gone there. But we don’t anymore and if they, for beta weekend, scaled the load screen down to place the message in a black region under the artwork, people will still be complaining.
Some players simply reject vehemently any mention actual real world commerce in the game. They freaked out when Evon’s blog mentioned exchanging gems for gold, they freaked out over the TP’s “Buy Gems” button always on display in the TP redesign.
RIP City of Heroes
They want those who bought HoT in the beta to test all all the changes to previous and new elite specializations. They want to test out the new critter AI and how it scales. They want to show players how interesting just one portion of one map is like.
The countdown to release is on.
And … if you don’t own HoT, that at least informs you why the maps aren’t as full as they normally are on a Friday night.
with a message that is pushed in your face till you’re sick of it makes it more a “i pester you till you do it” thing, ppl who don’t own HoT don’t care anyhow so why should they get pestered with it……..they are only more likely to leave till they quit doing that.
Funny, it doesn’t pester me to do anything and I haven’t pre-purchased HoT yet. It’s less annoying than the PvP tournament world event in game while it was going on.
