I really don’t understand what was game-breaking about it before, but I agree with the OP that it does now fail in some scenarios where it really should work.
-Salvador Dali
This is one of the silliest ideas I’ve ever heard.

When I was growing up (many years ago), something I got told several times by various adults and other figures of responsibility was, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me”. I learned that to be true, and I still believe it now. Most people I grew up with held to some variation of it, to everyone’s benefit, as a general philosophy for interacting with others.
I agree wholeheartedly with the above poster(s) that essentially said that the act of being offended lies squarely with the recipient. I realize that’s not a popular opinion, indeed one that seems not to be shared by ArenaNet (and their privately-owned game servers), but I think it’s a sad commentary on where we’ve gotten to as a society that we think it’s okay to dictate what words other people can and can’t use so as not to offend anyone’s delicate sensibilities. (insert gratuitous eye-rolling here if you like)
They’re just words. Relax. You’ll feel better, I promise.

Super annoying. Not game-breaking though, by any means, which is probably why it hasn’t been fixed yet.

This is an mmo. Timezones are NOT an excuse and ppl should stop coming up with this lame excuse. They most likely have world wide teams working on servers and offering support to customers almost 24/7. NA teams EU teams SEA teams. They should be covering all timezones, even customer support (which most likely is not even part of ANet itself…maybe part of ncsoft)
When you create a global product you also offer global services. That means u are not tied to a certain timezone.
Yes. This. QFE and all that.

Considering that GW2 is an international game and pot is 100% legal in countries like Amsterdam, I highly doubt it matters at all. Be a good bloke and smoke a toke, just don’t go broke or have a stroke. Mkay?
This is the best post, but probably not for the intended reasons.

I really really like the “shadow” bits on them. The weird bony bits ruin them all for me though.
I’m clearly not part of the target audience.

The only winning move is not to play.
How about a nice game of chess?

This thread probably doesn’t need anyone else chiming in by now, but same issue here.
Would have rather waited another week or two for a patch without a thousand bugs, tbh.
-Salvador Dali
Bad point is that the old “Abyss” color has been lighten in this patch.
So “Abyss” is now just another “deep gray” and “Shadow Abyss” is exactly like the previous Abyss color was previously.
Wait a minute….for real?
Protip: don’t believe everything you read on a forum.

This was funny at first, but now it’s maddening.
I’d hate to see what horror state this patch must have been in before it was delayed.
-Salvador Dali
Seemed to fix itself. I put both stacks in my bag and relogged and they’re stackable again.

You know, I know lots of people that do wvw for map compleition and never go back again. INever really saw anyone get into wvw because of it. I think the best way to make wvw more appealing is to not make it be crappy. If anything EOTM is a better gateway so this is sort of obsolete.
You’ve touched on a really interesting point here. Going into wvw and only trying to get the POIs and vistas will more than likely give someone who wouldn’t otherwise be doing wvw a bad impression of what the whole thing is or can be about (that’s been my experience, anyway).
Alternatively, I’ve actually had a good time there when I went in with friends or guildies with the express purpose of doing something directly wvw-related, and without worrying about any POIs I was or wasn’t getting. Going there to try and get the exploration/mapping crap out of the way has never been anything but a flat-out pain in the kitten though.
If the aim is to get more people into wvw, removing this requirement might actually be a positive step in that direction.

This thread is bad and you should all feel bad.
Now I feel bad for even participating.
Bad bad bad.
Please stop.

I’ve never been ignored in WvW, when running to a spot, at a spot, in tonic form so I couldn’t fight back or when I sat on the ground and did nothing as they approached. But I guess it’s always possible.
I’ve had them kill me at the southernmost skill point before I could get it and then hang around by the supply camp nearby so their nameplates were with the red NPC name plates and wait for me to come back so they could kill me again.
I think you have been unlucky.
Some people play to challenge themselves and some people play to cause others grief.
I’ve had it go the other way at the southern borderlands skill point – I was once fighting the spider woman when someone from another server approached. I prepared to break off and run but they also attacked her and when she was dead we went our separate ways.Considering the complaints about being killed (on this thread and other older, threads) and the joy expressed by so many PvE people with this announcement, I would say that my experience is typical. People claiming that WvW players ignore PvErs are thinking that because they themselves are nice enough to do so, so they think this is common behavior.
It’s not.
(You should have read the thread when the Obsidian sanctum was needed for a PvE achievement and how so many WvW people camped that jumping puzzle just to kill the PvE people trying to do it for their achieve. So many angry posts by PvE people and so many posts by WvW people saying, “suck it up” or making remarks about drinking PvE tears).
This exactly mirrors my experience also. This is a good change.
A person can be nice. People are kittens.

This is weird, I didn’t even think to try a different amount, but I have now and it seems buying 4000 twice is perfectly fine, but trying to buy 8000 once gives that error.
-Salvador Dali
Same here. Again. Had this issue a couple weeks ago, submitted a ticket and it was fixed within a couple days, but now it’s giving this error again.
Can you please just fix it properly?
Thanks.

They’re not my cup of tea visually, but more importantly, they don’t suit the aesthetics of this game at all, IMO. To each their own.
When people say that, are they just unaware that sizable percentage of Norns worship “Raven” and can turn into black-feathered anthropomorphic bird-men?
Aesthetics. Not lore.

Same here with 2 different cards, both of which I know are working otherwise.

Other than that, as others have mentioned, DPS Meters are a bad idea and should be avoided like the plague. They discourage friendliness , accessibility, and co-operation, and encourage negative playstyles, limit build creativity and originality, and train players in all the wrong things when it comes to actually learning the game and becoming good at it.
Please, enlighten me as to how DPS meters do any of these things.
Are you telling me that anyone with a DPS meter instantly turns into someone who thinks that other players’s respective worths are defined solely by the holy numberz? Because funnily enough, that’s a load of horse crap.
Except that this is a real thing that happens.
See EQ2 endgame attitudes for a really good example of why log parsers / dps meters are bad. I don’t care how big anyone’s e-peane is. Mine included.

Hi, can you tell me what server you’re on, please? Or maybe it doesn’t matter anymore? I’m a returning player (have been inactive for over a year) looking for a guild and it seems you might be a good fit.
Thanks.

I’d just like to thank the contributors to this thread for helping make my decision of whether to come back and try the game again or not an easy one.
I am disappoint.

Three official posts from Arenanet that directly conflict with how this event turned out.
http://www.arena.net/blog/is-it-fun-colin-johanson-on-how-arenanet-measures-success
Biggest culprit of breaking the fun rule here is the final event with its disgusting amount of filler (reinforcement phases on the ancient karka being the worst of the lot). But a great deal of the issues raised with the event could be considered to take the fun out of it.

We feel that everyone should have the ability to contribute no matter what time of the day it is. How we’ve came to this conclusion is that no player’s time is more valuable than another. Everyone has different off peak hours for whatever reason. Players should not be punished or unable to experience and view the same content as everyone else because they play at a different time. They too are paying customers.
Or will people argue that this applies only to WvW? Is everyone’s time equally valuable except if you’re doing a one-time weekend event?
http://www.arena.net/blog/when-its-ready
With more time and effort, the event could have been something more persistent, less buggy, more rewarding and satisfying.
Great post.
What gaelen said about this debacle showing that power gamers matter more to ANet than casuals really resonates with me as well. Very disappointed.

I agree with the OP and the bulk of the thread. Just adding my vote here. The whole thing has really dampened my enthusiasm for GW2, to be honest. Been playing other things this past week.
The last straw was standing around with a dozen others, waiting for that Asura NPC to “reset” so I could update my phase 1 and it never happening. I stood there through a few resets watching people come and go, but even though I had the map piece in my bag, it never updated for me. It got so boring I just logged off.
Overall a very poor event, from planning right through implementation, IMO.
Edit to say: now I’ve apparently missed some great opportunity because I couldn’t log on at 7am or whatever, which makes me want to play even less. If the aim of this event was creating a sense of missing out, they really nailed it.

(edited by Bekkr.6192)
So I’ve had some internet sketchiness lately, and have had to restart my modem a few times in the past few days. Every time this happens, of course, I get assigned a new IP address. This is fine, except every time THAT happens, I get prevented from logging into GW2 until I go through an email authentication process.
To preempt any “dude it’s not that big a deal” or “it only takes a second” comments: yes, I know it only takes a second. I just feel it’s a completely unnecessary second, and I’m happy to “risk it” and not have to do it.
A log-in attempt from the following location is currently awaiting your authorization.

I’m not actually logging in from a different location at all. In fact my IP address only changed by a couple digits. This happens every time my modem reboots, and is a nuisance that I’d really rather disable. I honestly don’t feel the tiny amount of security it adds is at all necessary or worth the inconvenience.
I’m guessing in this current age of overzealous MMO security that turning this off probably isn’t an option, but it can’t hurt to ask.
Please?
