It was interesting for a while, but it does need more variety after 9 months of the same thing. Changing which opponents you get would be a minor improvement but what would be nicer to see is a variety in maps and accompanying game mechanics.
Week-long matches is another thing worth looking into again. It’s too short, and the map is too small and volatile anyway, for guilds to really be able to stake out territory and make WvW more of a war setting where you expect front lines to be established, etc.
But for the current setup, where it’s more of a larger hybrid of GW1’s Alliance Battles, a week is a long time and matches do get stale. Rather than focussing effort on finding the right tweaks to WvW as it stands, I think it’d be more tolerable if we just had some variation.
For a start, how about a map rotation? There’s still only the EB and Borderland maps; it would be nice to see more than two different places.
I get that impression about the animators. Some of the movements are impossible.
Gotta be honest, I don’t use greatsword on guardian so I’m not altogether sure if it’s the same, but the hammer leap and ranger sword/greatsword leaps aren’t exactly graceful. Not distractingly bad though.
I’m not that fond of the running animation either, and it took a while to get used to it. Looks distinctly uncomfortable with the elbows all the way out like that. The other thing that seemed a bit odd was shortbow… because the charr’s tail is flicking at about 150 RPM.
Yeah, there’s a few quirky animations around. You do occasionally see a good one, such as the warrior greatsword charge.
So, I have been fine with everything ANet has done up until now. The trap is, in my opinion, stupid broken.
They either need to up the build cost and build time of the trap or they should just get rid of Stealth and think of new ways to give us a new form of defense. And, redo all of the traits and utilities that deal with stealth.
OR, they can introduce traps that negate boons, and you cannot have any boon on you for 30 seconds.
OR, how about traps that negates each class:
– don’t let Elementalists switch attunements,
– negates Guardian F-abilities and multiplies their cooldowns by 10,
– won’t allow Warriors to use their burst abilities for 30 seconds
– won’t allow Necros to go into Deathshroud for 30 seconds
– instantly kills Ranger pets on contact
– Mesmers F-abilities go on cooldown and their cooldowns are multiplied by 10
– Engi’s F-abilities go on cooldown and cooldowns are multiplied by 10With this trap introduced they essentially are saying they don’t want stealth playing a factor at all, so why not just remove it already.
Well, perhaps drop ranger condition damage by 90% instead, because if you just remove the pet you might actually make them better. Not that familiar with the Engi but the others should work.

This guy doesn’t speak for all of CD. If you want to fight in open field, send me a whisper any time between 7p.m. and 10p.m. central. I don’t do pre-arranged duels, but I will tell you how many are running with me and what borderland we’re in. Your job is to find us, or we find you, and the battle begins. We usually have on average around 5 total. We’ll typically engage even if the enemy has twice that number. So if you have close to that number and want some open field battles, let me know.
Points are kitten. We are looking for good fights, period. We are [FEAR] and [TKVA] and love a good skirmish. See you on the battlefield.
Think I’ve seen that group from time to time. Pretty much the only CD squad I’ve come across so far that fights and wins with inferior numbers… in fact the only one on any server in this matchup.
Yeah cause he cant change his ip…Right?
I doubt every troll out there knows how to change their IP. Of those that do, they don’t have an infinite number of IP addresses to work through, so I’d happily keep banning him until he runs out. Even if he has thousands.
No problem at all.
Those golems didn’t seem to be willing to brave the arrow cart wall. Can’t say I blame them, but let’s just say that tower isn’t green anymore.
You’re joking, of course.
I dance in Barrages. They barely tickle.
There is the thought of trying to work with burn/bleed/poison off a staff mesmer… but I’m skeptical that it can get enough bleed stacks to compete with a shortbow ranger.
When Rox said flock, she meant it literally. Get the group (flock) out of here. Then she makes a reference to sheep. “I’ll be the ram. You be the sheep and follow.” “Why do you get to be the ram?” “Because I have horns.” It wasn’t intended to replace the F word.
Double entendre – speech device where a word/phrase carries two meanings simultaneously.
There’s no conclusive proof that I know of, but some dialogue in the GW1 EotN expansion strongly suggests they did. Probably discouraged by the treaty in GW2.
The Flame shamans have had an affinity for fire since the first missions of GW1.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Stormcaller
This is probably a retcon – originally there was no real differentiation between one sort of charr and another, but since then the Ash, Blood and Iron legions have been elaborated, and they don’t use fire devices to augment their power the way the Flame legion does.
They’re certainly not averse to fire as a tool, but they don’t have any magical affinity for it outside shamans of the Flame Legion. Non-shaman Flame legionnaires seem to merely use the tools provided by the shamans.
Some Ash legionnaires seem to have affinities for different types of magic, thematically focussed around stealth. The Iron and Blood legions focus on non-magical prowess.

Hooray, now we get to see billions and billions and billions of shatter mesmers.
One viable build per class is not clever.
Finally found the problem – network admins had been blocking certain types of packets. Solved with an encrypted VPN.
As I suspected, it was a configuration problem, not packet loss. I think I’ll leave NCSoft support to handle simple problems that involve data entry at most.

Open world PvP will always be better than arena PvP.
GW1 pvp was fun but not my cup of tea.
GW2 arena PvP could have been good, but it’s simply using the wrong game mode. GW2 combat in GW1-style team arenas / GvGs would have been much more entertaining.
So I stick to WvW, which isn’t the way I’d prefer it either, but it’s a lot closer than capture points.
That’s a redundant point. They never have followed the same pattern. Some are so different they look like separate sub-species, even before this bug-eyed thing came along.
No effect.
It would fix a problem if port 6112 was blocked by the firewall, but otherwise it doesn’t make any difference.
As far as I can see GW2 isn’t initiating TCP connections properly. It works fine once it starts loading the map, but most of the time it never gets that far.
(edited by Ben K.6238)
I’m actually curious whether going through port 80 would work better on account of it being prioritised by the ISP or something…
I’ll have to look into that.
Charr had far more diversity of appearance than humans do even before this came along.
I’m quite fond of the Adamant Guard Greatsword (T3 cultural). There’s a lot of interesting skins out there for the greatsword, though.
None of the female players I know play charr. :<
So I make up for them with 11. I think I’m done making more now. :]
My Mesmer is a female charr. It;s much easier to tell where your clones are when you’re the only cluster of purple charr on the battlefield.
And as an added bonus, they’re huge and obscure much more of the battlefield than you’d get from another race.
(Two charr mesmers at 80 before I get any non-charr characters past level 10… I think I might be fixated.)
Like to emphasize how the TP is good for the industry? blow your own trumpet by all means but don’t make silly immature statements.
Everyone here was being mature until you said that.
Honestly, it’s doing a pretty good job as it is, and could only be improved by the addition of an auction feature. Yes, there are things on the TP that are expensive, but that’s because all lower offers have already been accepted.
The only outcome that will eventuate from including player names is more bans – because of people sending abusive messages to people selling precursors. Prices won’t change at all. I’m sorry, I don’t understand all of Lucas Ashrock’s explanations, they’re quite fragmented – but GW1 had a lot of player-driven infrastructure much the same as WoW, and it didn’t stop rare items being far too expensive for most players. I’m seeing the same thing in GW2, but the highest prices are on rare weapons instead of rare minipets.
Bombs worked, but I can’t recall whether I used them on the bun-nado or after it had dispersed.
Speaking of Rytlock, it was good seeing him tell someone to sod off for once.
Personally, I thought this might be a reasonably non-threatening way to get people used to using dodges, blocks, stunbreaks, etc.
Getting the timing wrong or just not bothering makes it annoying, but not impossible.
As I recall, we had two or three arrow carts but a shortage of supply to build more.
That was the strangest way to lose the garrison after knocking out wave after wave of Maguuma assaults armed with golems and catapults. And probably why just zerging it worked – too much of the setup consisted of ballistas meant for the slow or non-moving targets.
Then everyone disappeared and the map turned blue again within an hour.
Cute is fine. Seriously, the only thing that’s really that bothersome about Rox is her eyes are twice as big as the rest of the charr models. If they were scaled down, she’d be just as cutesy with none of the freaksy.
My only suggestion would be to ease up on the camera panning a bit. Having the camera move side-to-side in a scene where there isn’t much movement – dialogue scenes particularly – feels a bit weird, like the viewer is seeing it from some floaty spying robot or suchlike. Aside from that I do like this cutscene system.
I’m wondering, though, if it can support the lip-sync system that we see in the original GW2 cutscenes? Without proper lip-sync it is missing something important, for sure.
Meet Raya, a young, adventurous human woman who had to abruptly leave her high school class when destroyers overran it and subsequently destroyed it.
Now that’s more like it. Needs pointy ears though.
are the eyes really that bad?
They are pretty bad. So far, I’ve shown that screenshot to a few people in my guild, and I’ve yet to get a response suitable for print.
Maybe, on the first of April, logging in will work!
Once upon a time, they did memorable by giving them pink fur, or a longer jawline.
Now we’re creeping ever closer to piranhas-chewing-on-your-eyeballs kind of memorable.
Except HoD seems to be handling T7 quite nicely, so unless for some reason SF is better than T7 level (I doubt it), HoD is going to give you a hiding as well.
You’ll have worse problems with every other server in the NA group.
If they’re planning to retcon the rest of the cubs to be more in line with this, I don’t have two problems with it. Just one.
Her horns are way too big for a cub.
Rytlock has sent her on a dangerous errand to find a magical paper bag that can never be removed.
What the kitten?
Maybe she’s supposed to look young and her head is all weird in proportion. Trouble is, the other cubs don’t look like that… so she looks like an asura experiment.
I tried creating a ticket. The support staff had no idea what they were talking about – blaming the connection problems on packet loss because it was the only thing they could think of.
At worst, I’ve had packet loss of 2% when the connection was highly overloaded. This should, in theory, cause some problems – but retrying should work 98% of the time. It doesn’t work ever in GW2 – and works every time in GW1.
That should have been the first hint it wasn’t a packet loss problem.
The other indication is that it’s not just when the connection is overloaded that I can’t connect – it’s random. Connection load right now is low, packet loss 0%. Still can’t connect. So much for that theory.
I tried explaining this to NCSoft support, but they completely ignored it and just said “talk to your ISP”. I’ve had them say exactly the same thing a few months ago regarding lag issues when, except for GW1 and GW2, every other game on the planet was working just fine.
This is why I don’t see any point in trying to work with NCSoft support on this issue – they’re incompetent.
If I wanted a ranger without a pet, I’d play a thief. It’s basically the same thing with stealth thrown in.
I’d rather see pet management improved.
NCSoft support know even less about this than I do. I’m starting to wonder if they have anyone who even has the ability to understand what’s causing the problem, let alone fix it.
I suspect my connection isn’t helping, though it’s certainly rather strange to have the game work for a few minutes, then disconnect and give me this error any time I try to log in until the next day.
At least in past, if I got booted out, it would let me log back in.
You probably spelled your username wrong. There’s no other cause for this error other than what it says there.
Ah, lunar new year. Of course.
I’m in the process of moving house so I haven’t jumped into WvW as much as usual, but on SBI I’ve seen better fights when I have had the chance – we usually have some territory somewhere to fight from. Could be a sign that we’ll level off somewhere in T5 or T6.
Confusion could be nerfed in WvW, if you just want to see yet more shattercats.
The only situation where I find it’s devastatingly effective is in fighting thieves who don’t pay any attention to conditions (i.e. the vast majority of bad players). It’s least effective in fighting outnumbered – you can AoE confusion but not with the kind of stacks that you can put on one opponent. By comparison, a good D/D ele or thief can win a 3-on-1 more often than not. So long as the 3 doesn’t include a confusion mesmer. hehe
My favorite still is the clock tower. It took the longest of all the JP’s for me, but it felt amazing to finish it.
I’d like to know Josh, if the area in Sparkfly Fen near the Point of Interest and Vista The Tower of Modius that you gain access to through Verarium Delves is going to be a JP later?
I’m not online right now to provide a screenshot but what I came across was a rich platnium with a veteran guarding it, then some bushes to the side that were hiding a cave with what looked like a crumbling fort inside that didnt have anything inside.Thank you Josh for all the amazing work you & everyone have put into these JP’s, ME LOVE YALL LONG TIME.
Hm. Interesting. I worked on that map mid-development. Meaning someone owned before me and after me. That’s the map where I first started playing around with JPs. The tall ruins bridges and the pirate ghost base in the NE of that map were my first experiments. Then the Lich tower was my idea for making them a mandatory part of an event. Originally you had to take a crazy circuitous rout to get to the cave opening above the tower and drop down onto it. But after I handed the map off to someone else, I know we changed our policy so that no JPs are required for events, map complete, etc. I haven’t actually gone back to that map since launch, so I haven’t seen all the changes, but it’s possible that what you’re seeing is left overs from work I did that had to be cut. But I know that several enterprising map artists are digging around for spots to add more JPs, so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it got reopened at some point.
There is actually a chest in that one, but it’s very well hidden. It’s not listed as an achievement though, so I don’t imagine many people go that way.
Excellent. I get to say “You smell funny.” to random passers-by.
Please take your tinfoil hats off and be reasonable.
Wow.. so it’s ok for people who work at Anet to insult people on these forums. If I said that to someone here on these forums, i’d be banned from the forum for three days and the thread would be closed.
Hyperbole. I suppose this thread is full of it (in more than one way), but if you really want to see what people can get away with, check the WvW forums.
I can’t believe people are actually using thematic concept art as a vehicle to push their mount agendas. Desperation, perhaps?
can it have traps and be a pvp zone? PLEASE!!!!??? i love killing people in the jumping puzzle in EB. i want more pvp jumping puzzles!
I certainly hope not. IIRC, JPs were originally designed without combat (except as a mechanic for things like dodging specific, telegraphed attacks) and that’s the way I feel they should be. Focusing on precise movement and observing the surroundings to figure out how to proceed is what makes jumping puzzles fun IMO.
I think the EB jumping puzzle is sufficient proof-of-concept for more PvP dungeons, though. They are definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, but could be a hit among that crowd.
