Me and other BL-ers and BL commanders: WTF!!!!!!!!!!
I hope all EB SBI-ers see your post.
They don’t read these forums. Some don’t even read team chat. The only way to get some consistency across other maps is to do it without them.
They’ve been there for a very long time. Possibly since launch, but certainly for several months. Out of a number of portals that remain unused I’d figure this is the one leading to any new area in the Maguuma Wastes.
I have a quick question to sbi server. Why do you guys always try for sm or defend it with basically all your forces when bp tends to always own your borderlands? Having sm gains you 35 points but if you don’t own your own borderland then you lose like 100+ points. I don’t see your guys’ logic.
The pugs that run around EB all day aren’t interested in the points. It’s like two different servers honestly – a sporadic crew on the borderlands who have a few experienced WvW players, and a massive karma train on EB with a fairly consistent group of commanders herding them but little PvP experience in the rest of the zerg.
I’m willing to bet there are a lot more Twilight wielders running around in EB too.
I’m not sure what it’s like on other servers (never played anywhere else since beta) but we do have a fair number of people who say they want to stick to EB or borderlands and won’t switch over for anything.

Reminds me of the Maguuma in GW1.
[Edit: Check the holes in the rock face above the green-light tent. GW1 Maguuma ‘Jungle’ was riddled with those. I’m going to bet this is in fact in the Maguuma Wastes.]
Regardless of drop rate of weapon claim tickets, the minimum that these coffers will contain should be reasonable for the cost. I’ve had a look at their RNG boxes before – it looks like they still haven’t learned their lesson. If I can get 15 pieces of Zhaitaffy from 100 gems, I’m not going to buy another coffer – that’s just insulting.
The best RNG boxes so far are the Black Lion chests, and those still aren’t worth a tenth of the key price. 10 gems a key and I might buy them every so often. At 100/125 I have not bought a single one, and will not in future, unless the chests contain 10 times as much to compensate.
The same applies to the RNG boxes from Dragon Bash, Wintersday etc., but to an even greater degree. The only reason I’ve picked up a box from those events at all was curiosity. If they’d contained the likes of 1500 pieces of Zhaitaffy it would still go straight to the merchant, but at a value of 55 silver that wouldn’t completely turn me off the idea of buying more.
It doesn’t matter to me that I could have got something worth a lot more, I’m not putting gems into stuff if what I do get is not worth the price.

I think of it as college divisions. We might be doing ok in our division but would have no business going up against a Division I team because we are just a small New England liberal arts college with only about 3,000 students. Or something like that.
as long as you’re admitting that BP is a liberal arts college full of future starving artists and SBI students are actually studying something useful at tech university.
I guess that makes NSP some random high school team thats making us all look bad by not losing hard enough.
Don’t forget that using that analogy, BP and NSP are both are more attractive and getting laid more than SBI.
Not for long, BP pull out and log on every time we tag their keep.
This might actually be a good puzzle if the spring platforms weren’t so horrendously buggy. More often than not they shoot you in the wrong direction or not far enough.
This warping through gates thing seems to have turned up about the same time as AoE looting. Haven’t found myself on the wrong side of a gate so far, but I have repeatedly seen “This wall is already fully repaired!” messages without pressing F.
Did wonder if it was a controller issue but I don’t have anything mapped to F on my mouse. Could be fatfingering on the keyboard, and I’ve only just started doing it in the last two weeks… but I doubt it.
I don’t know what happened to SBI’s numbers this week. Seem to have more people on during Australian time zone – that could be explained by exams wrapping up – but unless we were a major Australasian base like SoS etc., the effect of that should be relatively even.
We’ve played BP for three weeks now, though, so I don’t imagine a bunch of randoms are going to wait for the third week to finally join up in WvW. We have had a new guild join up, PfA, but my impression of their players so far is that most are quite new to the game – they’re not going to be turning the tide of a battle just yet.
SBI had a really good weekend for some reason. Looks like the weekday battlefield might be back to regular programming.
That seems to be a new bug in WvW. I’ve seen it a lot lately… including from your guild.
Most people who find themselves on the wrong side of a gate do try to get back on the right side ASAP though, which is good to see.
Wasn’t expecting to see NSP’s score still right up there in the morning. For a rank 18 server that’s impressive.
AR lost a lot of people last week unfortunately. They’re in the lower matchup and still running a distant third.
Good to see AR has a more reasonable matchup this week.
It depends on how the fight is playing out, but as a guardian, you’ll generally find that stomping them is by far the best way to finish them off.
Only time I wouldn’t recommend it is if you’re getting so much CC and damage you can’t risk a stomp, but if you’ve managed to down them, you seem to be doing alright.
A thief should not be running in there first for the stomp, he’s going to get killed really fast. If you move in he’ll do what he can to support you.

Open field tactics don’t win you the match anyway. The only thing BP players do well is siege equipment, and it makes all the difference.
I’ll sign. At this point I’m getting really worried about the ratings gap that is being created by the new system. I’m fearing that we (SBI) may be stuck with BP and AR a lot.
It’s not the new system creating a ratings gap, it’s bandwagoning. That’s been around since day one.
It’s not just the tails – this takes floating shoulderpieces to a new level of whisky tango foxtrot.
I do believe that’s a charr on the end of that cog. Semi-attached.
You’re not locked in a tier anymore, so it will be a much shorter adjustment and it’s easily possible you could end up in a lower match by random chance… or a higher one.
I’m disappointed that ALS wants to move out. AR’s players could teach most of SBI a thing or two about how to play PvP properly. I’d rather see a higher population on AR so we’d have no choice but to pay attention… but if a guild wants to transfer, there’s nothing much I can do.
Yup. Not much point in running the 5 in BM on a trapper anymore.
I made the same decision for similar reasons. One bad move too many.
If you want to check the other outcome, there’s always the wiki if you don’t have the opportunity to play it on a different character.
10 BP drop 19 bags. Well, that’s certainly something. Must go after them more often.
I don’t see any good guilds there though… and there’s at least 35 SBI in any case so it’s no surprise they got faceplanted.
Actually, you matched us with numbers, however after we whiped you multiple times
Suspension of disbelief broken.
Against AR it wouldn’t surprise me, but I’ve yet to see a BP zerg beat anyone with anywhere near equal numbers. It looks like an amalgamation of T7-8 servers.
Two can play the nightcapping game.
Would you like a cookie?
Bigger wardrobe, really.
I’d pick up an everlasting axe when it turns up, but mostly I’d just like more options for appearance customisation.
Of course. We’ve yet to establish… who’s coming second.
And spoilers, we built our strategy behind this week on intel received from Ehmry Bay. They told us that the moment you guys flip Stonemist, you just sit on it to the detriment of everything else. They were right.
Uh…
I’m not going to disagree with the rest of the post, because I’m not that fond of the EB karma trainers either, but Ehmry Bay has never played us since release week.
After seeing how many SBI are in eternal, there’s no reason for you guys to be losing this bad. You guys are just terrible, learn to WvW please and don’t complain about “outmanned in Home BL” because all your numbers are in Eternal.
You’re not going to achieve anything by bleating about it. Go take something they’re not defending.
Darkblade? Well that’s an original name for a thief.
Realistically, if you go looking for people to solo you’re going to run into a lot of thieves, and a lot of kittenheads by extension. That said, the worst attitudes I’ve seen this matchup have come from small groups of AR. (But also the best – it depends on the guild.)
This thread reminds me of all those matchups with Maguuma. Is it normal for BP and AR to shift so much effort from the field into the forums mid-week?
One last flip before reset.
I think we spent so long in 3rd place that we forgot how to deal with having more than two forts.
Checking the score right now, we have one. There we go, comfortable territory. Good thing I have exams coming up to keep me busy or this server would drive me insane.
We’ve enjoyed the fights this week, though we haven’t seen many roaming, organized groups on IoJ or SBI (5-10 mans). This isn’t a troll post, do you guys have any? We’d love to watch for the tag while we’re out and about.
SBI has a small number of solo roamers but no guilds that specialise in the role that I know of. There may be havoc squads out there but I haven’t seen any this week.

SBI’s fairweathers are rusty. Pug quality is the worst I’ve seen in months – no situational awareness at all. So, if they seem bad, it’s probably because they are.
I think it’s only the sheer numbers of them preventing AR from capping all our stuff at this hour.
I’m sure that ANet did not let EU and NA servers play against each other was because of night capping/Off hour fighting.
Latency actually.
You don’t get 10-20 silver from those events.
More often than not your giving up 2.4-3.2 silver in waypoint fees. Unless you walk to it, which takes muuuch longer.
Got to walk nearly everywhere in WvW. And repair armour more often. So, that’s not an equaliser either.
Alternating weeks of the old and new.
I’ve noticed nice organization in both SBI and Maguuma on DB bl! Nice work, having fun tonight.
That’s where SBI’s organised group is tonight. Got a reasonable number on EB as well – despite the scores we actually have a huge turnout tonight.
I don’t concur with the player categories, but a gold/badge/guild commendation/other reward (preferably compounding as trendal suggested) is a pretty good idea.
It won’t bring farmers out of PvE, but it doesn’t need to. What it can do is close the gap a little, making things better for the people who do like WvW, and helping shift the balance there further towards holding objectives instead of flipping them for rewards.
WvW needs a bunch of things to be more attractive. This won’t solve all the problems… but it’ll help.
The size of the reward, exactly who gets it, and how competition for the point factors in (harder to hold vs. a stronger server than a dead one), will have to be considered carefully though, as it’s easy to cause big problems this way. Off the top of my head I can’t think of any guilds on my server that could hold a point without off-hours help, and their assistance is going to want some of that bonus too.

CD had 5 people on the map last night. Probably because all their stuff was green.
So it was easier to start clearing out all the places that SoS weren’t until we had enough people that it didn’t matter where SoS were. With the calibre of players on EB at that time of night that’s about 60-70% of the numbers.
Hmm.
Well, this will cause some interesting matchups but it’s definitely not going to do better in getting close fights apart from dumb luck.
I actually don’t mind this… but personally I think it would be better to alternate systems between two 3.5-day periods on this system – to give a better chance of spending part of the week not getting teeth kicked in – and a 7-day period of strictly ranked matchups like we have now.
That way, we get a little variety without losing the good parts of what we’ve got now.
Also, could we have some new WvW maps?
Oh.. and contrary to popular belief – there is a growing oceanic population, just saying
It’s definitely not shrinking any more, that’s for sure. I actually see groups of people at night now.
VS doesn’t have the coverage. No-one speaks French in Asia.
@phoebe – WM left a while back and caused a mass exodus of the WvW guilds off SBI. I think most went to CD (?)..
SoR, JQ and Kaineng.
JQ is the only one that’s been in the top tier since shortly after launch (excepting one week around end of September/beginning of October).
As somebody in the SBI-SoS-CD match: There are a ton of SoS. Like, I’ve seen…I don’t think I’ve seen an SBI zerg at all (but I stick to CD Borderlands and Eternal Battleground, partially because we can’t even manage to keep our own bloody borderlands due to leaving everything undefended like kitten so maybe there’s an SBI zerg out there somewhere) but I can’t seem to find anything but SoS zergs.
May be a failing in SBI’s strategy during your play times. We’ve certainly sent people onto the CD map during Oceanic times to try to relieve the pressure, but we still need to work on our methods to make it more effective. (And yes, we hit SoS BL as well… although late at night they don’t always look much different…)
We do have the [SBI] guild which is mainly a gathering of WvW players from several guilds across the server. As far as specific guilds with a heavy WvW presence – but by no means WvW-exclusive – we have Kiwi (actually Koreans), KT, AB, MMAD, TwiA off the top of my head. These are just the ones I see during Oceanic hours when I’m online – I think PuG and SENT have a presence during NA primetime.
There’s JIC, as well. I’m not sure how many of them aren’t the same guy, but he’s pretty much a guild-in-one.

Honorless Gladium is a poignant and challenging story, because your sire has a good heart but extremely poor judgement. I preferred Sorcerous Shaman because it offers some degree of redemption, but that’s just personal taste.
Loyal Soldier offers a bit of comedy but that’s about it – you’re not going to get too much personality out of a treasure hunt when it has to be over in a handful of steps.
You won’t generally see too many inter-species relationships, but I’m sure they’re out there. With some races more than others. You also have to consider the opinions of their peers, which will be more important to some races than others; sylvari wouldn’t have too many problems, but for a charr it would be very difficult.
I’m not sure what’s going on behind the scenes, but a new personal story that makes improvements on GW2’s sounds good to me. Already they have the Living World guys keeping the world moving beyond the scope of killing dragons.
Wonder if I should start stocking up on gems…
But then, I’m willing to fork out for a good story. Wasn’t until the second ‘expansion’ that the GW1 storylines started to impress me. The Zhaitan campaign I’ll consider a learning curve if the next one is more enthralling.
Anti Pet trap- Completely stuns pet for 30 seconds. All pet commands will be on CD for 30 seconds.
And no-one will notice the difference.
