All Jacklo’s saying is that Gandara and Gunnar’s Hold both have clear objectives on each map which we should be pursuing. In the case of EB, that’s our own section and the blue positions nearest us. If we start focusing on Anza’s or GH starts going after WC and RQ then we open ourselves up to an easy flank by FR.

On each of the borderlands, we should be pursuing natural objectives: that means moving north on the FR map. This isn’t about a truce, which is unnecessary, this is about not exposing ourselves as easy prey to the FR hordes.

You should have 301 in total. If you don’t, you’ll just need to go back and check every map until you find the remaining 5.

Since each has a tally of how many you’ve completed so far, I recommend using that.

Yeah, designating unofficial forums would be fantastic. It seems that standard practise for guilds is that forum registration = guild application. Even though I’m usually rolling with different groups on WvW, I like maintaining my independent tag.

I’m impressed that there’s a class in this game that has so many features that it can also have over 100 bugs.

I am not entirely sure what you are alluding to but I hope you did not just compare genocide and famine to a few bugs hampering a video game.

I use this for PvE as well but I play WvW pretty often: 0/30/0/20/20, using sword/focus and GS. I tend not to play prime hours so tracking down small groups or getting away is important. Focus is a 3-in-one for that (plus knocking people off walls), add blink, leap, berserker, and wave, and I can usually chase anything that isn’t perma-stealthed. A push and a pull can help prevent finishes/revives, I can also drop a warden on a ram build site and protect it, and blurred is great if I get caught.

In a combat situation the utilities blink/null/feedback but I’m usually running around with portal in one of the slots. Unless I’m skulking the elite is time warp, which is also helpful for finishes/revives.

That is how it is with experiments, isn’t it? You start out thinking you’re going to do one thing, and you often end up changing the plan quite a bit. But there’s always something you can salvage.

Apologies if I do sound too much like your lecturer (I guess they’re doing things correctly then!), you seemed earnest enough to take a sincere criticism well.

What I was saying about the order of collection is that you should either alternate or randomly “plan” when you’ll use MF and when you won’t. That’ll help even out some of those factors outside your control, especially since you’re kind of your own test subject here.

I have my doubts that a regression would yield any kind of result, especially if you’re considering the drop rate of common and rare things in the same test; the former is going to be about the same, and that will just obscure any sort of signal that you expect to find.

I do have to say it’s not a very sound statistical practice if you find yourself doing a bunch of different tests. It’s always better if you are able to decide beforehand what kind of tests you wanted to do, and then design your experiment so that it’s best able to answer that question. Then you run whatever tests you have planned and make your conclusion. This experiment is still useful as a trial though, since it gives you an idea of what kind of numbers you’ll obtain. That will help a lot for future designs, if you’re still planning more experiments.

My suggestion would be to start with a simpler test: compare 0% to 222%. I think it’s fair to use a single kill as a single sample, but it is hard to control what kind of mobs you hit/the proportion of damage you deal especially given that you’re not blinded to what kind of gear you’re running, so keep that in mind. As well, perhaps you could focus on an easier metric of comparison; rather than considering all the ranks of items separately, lump the high tiers together and the low tiers together and just compare the proportions.

Regarding my question about randomness, I did assume that you had the same or a similar number of samples for each MF ; what I’m asking is, were the trial runs conducted in a random order (so that you don’t have all 0 MF and then 222% in blocks)?

If you’re just using 5 buttons, you’re doing it wrong.

I respect what you’re trying to do here, although the graphs themselves aren’t particularly convincing, since high-ranked magic items constitute such a low proportion of finds. I like the design in general, I’m not sure how you applied the tests… Are you regressing numbers for single categories or multiple categories?

If I’m reading your scatter plot correctly, the total number of 4 and 5 rank items is quite low such that it really doesn’t indicate anything except that you need more samples. Right now you don’t have a good estimation of that rare/magic drop %. Are you randomly deciding which rate of MF to go with at the start of each session?

If you knew or could estimate with some confidence the normal rate of rarer or magic drops, you would be able to generate a null hypothesis for your results based on what magic find is advertised to be. If you did that, I think you would find that your current results are also in line with that null.

I personally doubt there is a team looking at your case because it sounds like you’re the only one with that problem. Which means either you’re very unlucky and have a unique issue, or there’s some human error on your part. That might be a very frustrating thing to hear, but there is something you can do about it: Do a better job of documenting your case and show beyond a doubt that there isn’t a mistake on your part.

I noticed that you haven’t gotten all of the explorer achievements; this could be the case even if you’ve gotten 100% in all of the zones, because finding all the areas isn’t necessary for a completion chest in each of the zones. If you do get all the areas, that will help you make a much stronger case (since there’s otherwise a chance of hearts/POIs lurking in places you’ve missed). Use the maps on the wiki to compare to your own.

As well, saying that you’ve hopped from area to area and checked that you have 100% isn’t entirely convincing. You need to make a tally of how many hearts and POIs you have in each region, then sum them all up. If you do that, you may just help to figure out what the bug is. Then get screenshots of all those zones.

Finally, you say that the chest disappears when you get to the Chantry. Could your post a shot of that?

It’s a lot of work and I know it sounds like it’s putting the onus on you, but you can’t expect the support team to figure out what your issue is unless you’ve documented it properly.

OP would be on a server designated as English, but probably a place where Polish and Czech players/guilds have decided to congregate. It’s possible there would be enough players speaking another language to make it difficult to coordinate, but not enough to form another server. I very much doubt there would be enough players with limited English in Quebec to make up a whole Francophone server.

Anyways, I’ve never had issues with my EU server (Gandara). Which one are you on?

No, the “naysayer” is emphasizing the difference between your statement that only the guild that has claimed the location is responsible for upgrades purchased with coin and the fact that major fortifications should be claimed by guilds that can provide buffs purchased with influence. What you are saying is potentially counterproductive for the reasons given above.

You may have your own opinion about who should spend coin on upgrades, but if you’re going to be judgmental please keep that to yourself.

I’ve also read that quaggan storms can destroy an altar, initiating a reset. Again, I don’t actually know what happened to cause the reset and I don’t know how the other orb was taken today. I do know that the one we took this morning was not taken directly from the keep using a hack.

You’re just making it more difficult for them by producing multiple threads. You do realize that it takes time to engineer a solution, right?

However, you do have various bars that move forward in WvW: Your level bar, your achievements bars, your karma and badges totals. Anyways, there’s no indication that they won’t add more titles/vanity gear, but those are the kinds of things you’ll have to wait for; this game did just come out, after all.

As a beneficiary of one of those resets, I have to admit I don’t know how that happened. I certainly didn’t hear anyone explain or hint why there was a reset, although it was happening by the time I arrived on the server.

It happened during the early morning, surprisingly the presence on BB and FR wasn’t strong or organized enough to reclaim those orbs during that period (How you did try, though! We were outmanned and facing a double assault but managed to survive somehow.).

Rather like facing two servers that use different languages. No worry about mass transfers happening after day 1 and spoiling the fun.

Yes, there are issues with unbalanced sever populations, but this is hardly grasping the problem let alone a solution.

QTRKOBRA – things pretty much change on an hourly basis, as long as you spend some time on WvW and communicate you’re bound to find some likeminded folks.

You’re proposing a change (introduce rewards based on WvW kills) and insisting there won’t be unforeseen consequences. They’re suggesting possible consequences and saying that change shouldn’t be made. You’re saying those consequences won’t happen, but all you’re providing is some hand-waving. If you want to see the change realized it’s up to you to address those concerns.

You hit the nail on the head here… I don’t know why some people forget that the thing they are developing/playing is a GAME. We do all start on an even playing field for Open World RvR.. its called a RELEASE DATE. I do not want someone that just bought the game today to be able to come into OPEN WORLD pvp and 1v1 me.. thats why SPVP is for. An MMO is about character progression..

So everyone who gets the game after the release date should be penalized. Brilliant strategy for boosting the game’s popularity. You do have an advantage in this game over someone who’s on their day 1, it’s the skills you’ve developed as a player. You do have progression in this game in terms of achievements, armor, and the opportunity to contribute more substantially to the team effort (siege weapons, fort upgrades, commander books). Seeing as WvW is about team effort, that’s a great advantage. If your guild/server is organized, you may have also helped your world climb up the ladder and your character’s contributions have probably been recognized by others.

There’s a lot of rewards in this game and if you spend the time you’ll earn what you deserve. Arguably there should be more titles and such linked to WvW contributions. What you should not have is an artificial advantage of extra skills and stats which would act as a barrier for new or more casual players simply because you feel entitled after playing for longer. If I’m fighting an otherwise even skirmish for a control point or a camp I want my skill to determine whether or not I can aid my world, not some cheap advantage doled out to someone because their realm rank was higher. Because in that situation, whoever wins can truly feel they’ve earned it.

With respect to the whole argument about rewards for killing, Seige you may call it speculation and I may call it forethought. But unless you can bring up legitimate points to counter Papyrus and Yerffej’s arguments you’re the one who’s making groundless predictions about a hypothetical situation.
