Solid, I’m there.
The bug where clones do not get a map completion star over their head was acknowledged as a bug by the dev team at least 4 patches ago. People are impatient because they have lost confidence that the bug will actually be addressed outside of a developer saying “yup, that’s a bug!”.
A little off-topic, but something I would like to know… Why is that star visible to enemy players at all? It’s a disincentive for any class, not just the mesmer, to get world completion.
Blink doesn’t cross gaps.
Open portals last just 10 seconds, the tooltip is off. Some falls will kill you anyways, which makes portals useless, and with the cooldown increase, using it can require a wait. It’s a nice checkpoint sometimes.
If you want an easy way to bridge gaps in a JP, go with an engineer and use the rifle’s jump shot. You don’t need any skills to do the JPs though, if you intend to do a lot you’re best off using your guardian and taking the time to learn how far a normal jump without swiftness can take you.
Are you complaining about your 2-second delay or finding yourself in a 2 vs. 1? Either way, these are uphill situations, and against any other class or build it might not matter what your reaction speed is if you’re caught in the middle of a fight.
Besides, if you decide to play the thief how are you going to land a backstab with that lag?
What exactly are you doing during that 2-2.5 seconds? Sounds like it’s only huge damage if you let it be huge damage…
Sure, these guys can back off if their attack fails; in fact, they will do so because they have zero staying power in a fight. They may not have taken on much risk but they have given up something, and if everyone knew how to counter this kind of attack there’d be a lot less of these kinds of thieves because they’d never actually win a fight.
It has pros and cons, definitely. The idea is that you make the clone and the enemy will go focus on that instead, giving you time to heal yourself or confuse him to death and get a second wind.
There are no pros, only cons.
The enemy can easily figure out which one is the downed player, and which one is the clone. This is because the clone ALWAYS appears first, followed by the downed player.
Feel free to test this yourself when you down a mesmer who uses this ability. The clone always appears first, ignore it, and wait for the downed mesmer to re-appear (occurs 1 second after the downed clone appears).
That people should always know (because of the arrow) is true in theory, not in reality. Many times in PvP I see players going for the wrong clone. I assume the point of the delay in PvE is to ensure your clone receives the aggro, the mechanic as a whole is of course useful for delaying death the same way that interrupts and thief/ele downed teleports are.
If you’re trying to get a res in PvE or WvW, just use /say chat to tell them they’re saving the wrong clone.

Representing Gandara for this lovely cross-server bonding.
Someone pointed out during the Halloween BLC hurrah that boycotts are useless and ineffective. So I made a twitter tag that needs some love.
No to ascended gear.
I’m also expressing my concern via #DontTreadmillOnMe, I hope people can defend the game instead of just quitting.
I didn’t realize the community acted as a monolithic entity. Show me one person who asked for gear progression earlier who is complaining now.
Or a 37-page thread that has existed for 12 hours demanding gear progression…
For now, I’m going to have to agree with the apparent majority. Vertical progression via gear is not the way to go. Now, I’m not going to quit over this, it’s still a great game. However, I think you will end up losing some of your more loyal customers and replacing them with those that are always running to the next shiny. And trust me, that next shiny is never too far away.
In the end, all they’ll be left with is a mob of skritt. I’m not done with the game yet, but it certainly saps one’s enthusiasm.
Okay. Wtf. Everyone wants gear treadmill, they get gear treadmill, and now everyone is QQing. Im sorry but thats not arenanet’s fault, its yours for “Forcing them” to implement it.
A lot of anger will be rightfully directed towards those MMO hoppers who demanded the treadmill at the expense of all the players who sincerely bought into Anet’s manifesto.
they all have same talent? like if i take asura i can be caster/healer
Yeah, you can play any profession as any race.

Legendaries don’t have better stats, period. If there are new types of armor, they should follow the same model. There’s a difference between improving or tinkering with a minor aspect of the game and violating a core principle of your game’s design. That’s why people are up in arms, and they have a right to be, just as you have the right to express your opinion (respectfully) that you believe a new gear tier is a good thing.
It is a bit soon to assume what Ascended gear is, but never too soon to reaffirm one’s opposition to any kind of a gear grind model.
(edited by Moderator)
Ever since I read this in the morning, I havent logged in. I just found it difficult to log in knowing that any gear I obtain on my main might be replaced in a few days.
Going to log in now, on my alts I’d imagine, but I haven’t had the urge to log in and obtain some dungeon gear today just because of this.
You play an MMO. MMO’s are about progression and additions. Stuff will change. If you haven’t figured this out by now, then I don’t think MMO’s are the type of game for you.
Not this MMO. Not verticle progression. If I wanted a gear treadmill I’ll do it via raiding. Not by simple fact of purchasing gear.
With that logic, why have gear at all?
This game is too big to not have something to do at level 80. Reward your level 80’s eventually. Playing barbie will only go so far.
Reward with what? Bigger numbers? Or making the game slightly easier to play?
Proponents of stat progression sure love throwing out the word “rewards” without explaining their meaning. If the reward is the ability to access certain content because you have gear that’s better than what others have, that means precisely the kind of elitism and gear grind that would put a lot of players off GW2, because that’s not the game they bought.
If this is indeed a new gear tier, I consider it a betrayal and a terrible misuse of resources.
Still, I’m reading into it as hopefully not being a new tier, “one step higher” could mean higher the same way that legendaries are over exotics, and quality could simply mean appearance.
^
Scepter is pretty much the weakest, especially so in PvE since its main damage source is stacking confusion and confusion is ineffective against mobs because they attack so slowly.
MH sword is much better for dishing out damage while getting a 2-second invulnerability with a low cooldown, if you’re getting pummeled at melee just swap to your staff and retreat.
Wait, why not roll behind them when they’re using Flurry… :/
I was wondering why no one mentioned this. Blurred frenzy is canceled by any movement and does nothing to prevent the tarhet from moving.
If the mesmer attempts to use blurred frenzy without using some sort of disable, usually sword 3, then they have no idea how to use that skill.
Sword 3 cripples, but the enemy can still roll.
Sword 3’s second chain, swap, immobilizes.
If you’ve managed to get both parts of sword 3 chain on you, you deserve a face full of BF. Usually hard to lock down a decently competent enemy for the whole sequence, swap can’t be done instantly so you should be able to dodge.
OP sounds like he attacked a MH sword mesmer with 100b, the mesmer fired BF, and then instead of canceling the OP continued trying to use 100b despite knowing that the mesmer was invulnerable and got a fully deserved stack of damage from BF.
And if someone found a way to suppress the inhibitor?
Thread is jumbled
Just fix the attack speed, don’t mess with the mechanics. Making confusion part of the attack chain will make the scepter a weapon useful only for confusion. If that’s your build, having more clones through faster attacks is great for shatter fodder, and if it isn’t, you still might go for scepter using clones in other ways… And an attack speed boost would directly increase damage as well.
Here we go again.
All 3 of us are from Gandara, so this must be one of those stuck event bugs. I reported it in-game, but at the time I put it down as a vista bug.
Thanks, I was aware that there was an event (not a meta-event), but it isn’t starting or proceeding as it should.
I also have this issue on Gandara.
The assistant Tigh Snatchskull says he can’t talk and has to get more cows, but stands where he is without moving. I have waited a this location and checked it multiple times; if there is an event associated with it, it appears to be stuck. There are never any cows at the cowtapult but it is impossible to interact with anyways.
I love how my Asura…
… sniffs the air and glances around when out of combat. Occasionally gives his head a confused scratch as well.
… gives a wide-eyed look of devoted admiration at other characters when they’re standing next to him. Even better when he’s running next to someone taller whose model is selected, because then he’s running and looking sideways and upwards with his dumb grin. He looks like he’s going to end up tripping over a rock since he’s too enamored with the other person to watch his step.
… squeaks when he cheers, grunts when he jumps, and gives a tickled chuckle when he laughs.
… sounded and looked drunk in every personal story cinematic.
… is ridiculously shorter than every non-Asura. I was hiding in a keep with a pair of bookahs and only went to 1/3 their height. The purple dugong guild emblem he sports only makes him look smaller.
Did anyone grab the name of the Fort Ranik mesmer using a portal exploit to hide in the lowlands keep this morning? I got screenshots of the guild tag and character model but forgot to get that vital piece of info.
Anyone from FR concerned about people on their server using hacks can contact me about this, although we have reported the incident.
Apart from that inconsequential hiccup (except for a few people getting griefed trying to grab a vista), this matchup is looking great. Super tight, places getting exchanged regularly. A lot of people from Gandara are getting into it this week. JS is falling off from the pack in score but I wouldn’t discount them given how they outperformed us last week.
Gw1 jade quarry was not pvp at all. Yes player could kill player, but npcs (mobs) where also present. EXACTLY same as wvw.
And arenanet always claims ‘balance over everything’-pilosohpy (look al all the nerfs). 500 vs 100 (or less) ppl is not balanced sorrie. Why do i suggest low populated group should be able to penetrade arrow cart guarded field? Because it’s more fun. More variation. Everything should be able to kill everything. Just like they state, every profession can play any role. Now the moment you have people with arrow carts, vs people without the battle ends. You know the result with 90% certainty. Tell me the fun of that.
I thought people did wvw mainly for the massive people vs people, with the area involved also as extra fun. But it seems there’s a lot of Turned based players here. Who prefer pure Age of empires mmo gameplay then pvp.
If player skills had no meaning in wvw we wouldnt be able to use them. Meteor shower was nerfed in last beta. And it’s certainly not because pve. Only reason they can have ‘nerfed it’ is wvw. So player skills (and balance) certainly is meant to be part of wvw gameplay. Yet so far, reading all of this, it’s ‘equipment vs equipment’ battle.
Actually, WvW isn’t meant to be balanced combat. Sorry that I don’t have any quotes from the devs handy, but I’ve seen that tossed around here enough times to be certain of it. If things are getting nerfed for PvP, it’s for sPvP/tPvP, not WvW.
I haven’t played GW1 in a long time but I looked up Jade Quarry and, like structured PvP, it’s 8 vs. 8. There are NPCs in sPvP as well, so I think that’s your closest comparison. I can see Anet adding more sPvP options in the future, so if that’s what you want you’ll get it.
Apologies if you had a misconception of what WvW, this is how it’s advertised on the website so I’m not sure how you got that idea:
Each map – one for each server and a huge “neutral” center map – is loaded with objectives that are worth points for the team that claims them. Players can band together to lay siege to castles, raid enemy supply caravans, clash with other players in truly massive battles, wreak havoc behind enemy lines, or build mighty weapons of war like trebuchets and siege golems.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/pvp/
That said, it’s not at all comparable to Age of Empires, except in that it requires the use of strategy. But whereas AoE strategy is strictly in the hands of one player, or a couple of allies, WvW is about communication and coordination between many players. You aren’t the one issuing the commands, you’re one of the soldiers on the ground contributing to the cause; you are playing a role.
It may sound fun for you to be able to take down siege that other people have put effort into (getting blueprints and supply), but it’s not necessarily fun for them to watch one player thwart their efforts by simply pressing one button.
I’m not going to say that you can win a WvW match with a disorganized server that has fewer people because you can’t. But please Phoebe, tell me what you think should be the criteria for winning WvW? When you get to the numbers of people involved in WvW, individual player skill is something that more or less evens out, so there have to be other deciding factors.
I think you mistaking PvP with WvW.
Yeah, Phoebe can you please tell me why it is that you’re not playing structured PvP when that is clearly what you’re looking for?
I get that spawn camping can be an issue but that doesn’t seem to be your only gripe with arrow carts.
Phoebe Ascension,
I’m sorry your server organization sucks but please understand that what you’re proposing is not the solution to your problem. It won’t kill the enemy zerg and it won’t make fortifications any easier for you to capture when you’re outnumbered anyways. WvW is built around the use of blueprints and supply. You represent an extreme minority (the few people in WvW on servers that don’t have a presence in WvW), so I don’t see how appeasing you while wrecking WvW for everyone else will help GW2 keep players in the game.
My question for you is this: If your server were on equal footing, how would you feel about siege? If the answer is that you would still be against it, you’re playing the wrong kind of PvP offered in GW2. WvW is logistics-oriented (what you call use of Age of Empires equipment), sPvP and tPvP are not.
(edited by Bertrand.3057)
I looked at a couple of your old posts and it sounds like what you’re looking for is sPvP/tPvP, which is the same kind of PvP as was in GW1. Click the crossed sword icon at the top of your screen to play.
WvW is about logistics, as in collecting supply and deploying it. Getting rid of that won’t hurt the zerg, it’ll only make WvW that much less interesting.
You guys aren’t making this any easier :p
Just accept it. There is no substitute for the mesmer!
Yeah, I have a guardian alt. It’s different.
Kettling… Thank you for telling me the name of that tactic we’re constantly using, I like. I like very much.
For what it’s worth, I watched it (used a French proxy: irony?). Big battles are much more hectic, couldn’t follow most of it.
Hardly anyone has mentioned the fact that campers (at least in EB) also provide a safe, quick, hassle-free and extremely truncated shortcut to two free blueprints for each friendly that comes by. Sure, blueprints aren’t that expensive (though you sometimes land a good one from the chest), but not everyone is willing to shell out money or badges for blueprints. So getting a large proportion of people from your server to the end chest with little effort or time wasted is worth something for your server.
Besides, aren’t the people spending their time trying to complete the puzzle or unseat the campers also wasting time? The puzzle is a breeze and I think you’re underestimating the volume of traffic it receives.
Staff? Damage is subpar. Why does it have vulnerability? Why do I want +1% dmg? Garbage.
GS? Why do I do LESS damage the closer the enemy is? What a * mechanic for PVE. Also, 3’s area is way to small.
Sword? A good weapon, really. But going melee is a deathwish with this class.
Pistol? Good weapon, but cooldowns are way to long.
Focus? Gimmicky.
Torch? Yeah. As if confusion is working in pve.
This is how you feel about the class? Then what weapons do you roll in PvP? What have you tried in PvE? Are you comparing mesmers to other PvE classes you’ve played? My level 25 guardian doesn’t feel as great as my level 80 mesmer but I chalk that up to the fact that it’s level 25, not the class.
I honestly don’t know how you can just dismiss the focus with one word, since the warden dishes out stacks of area damage, which seems to be what you want in PvE. It’s problematic in PvP because players move, but mobs are way easier to predict.
I also don’t understand how it is you’re getting killed in PvE just by going melee… It’s PvE. What traits are you using right now? If you’re worried about damage, once you hit 35 you could have illusion CD reduction across the board, illusions that stack bleeding, vigor on crit, clone production on dodge, and CD reduction for sword. One suggestion among what I’m sure are many.
(edited by Bertrand.3057)
+1 on tiered titles. Then most players would have a good selection of titles, but there also wouldn’t have to be a ceiling on titles.
Set up so that you can only choose the highest tier you have of course, otherwise you’d have an excess of options.
We do have a whirl finisher, the great sword phantasm. If you drop an ethereal field on him he will spread confusion around when he attacks. Or in a light field, he removes conditions.
The Illusionary Warden (focus) is also a whirl finisher.

Neither.
I don’t have a fancy mouse so I may not be the best authority on your setup, but it doesn’t seem like there’s any need to group shatters, weapon skills, and utility skills in the same place. I bind my keys according to what use they have for me, and it didn’t make sense to group all the shatters together since I use some more often. For example, I put distortion on shift because it’s an easy button to hit but it’s not one that I want to be mashing. That said, I don’t roll a shatter build so the shatter buttons generally don’t get prime real estate. But you may use the class differently.
Figure out what makes sense for your play style, learn it, prosper.
They use whichever base is appropriate for a given system.
I bid a fond farewell to Halloween and the clock tower in particular :’(
They’re rare. I’ve run dozens of times and haven’t landed a Halloween skin. But some people get them on the first go. You have about 9 hours left, good luck to you. The clock is ticking.
By throwing a party, I mean “buying siege”. The rest of the group organization and such is rather irrelevant.
Also, it doesn’t sound like you’re charitable with karma, it just sounds like you have truckloads of it and you don’t know what to spend it on, so you value it less than gold. Which is fine for proposing this idea, but not fine for claiming that you’re a generous team player.
I think the analogy is better served by saying you’re always going to other people’s parties and never throwing your own.
It’s not charity if you can share the cost over a series of objectives, it’s cooperation. I realize this isn’t always possible but I think it works out more often than you might expect.
Besides which it makes you the benefactor of charity (ie freeloader) if you don’t buy siege
Psirca, the only lesson I learned from your post is don’t get too attached to supply camps. They’re right, you’re being demoralizing by saying you won’t sink money into things again. Although I don’t know what priority the tower was, your commander’s decisions seem fairly sound. Your team put 40s into the camp, but maybe the enemy had 80s sunk into the tower? Your issues with commanders asking for people to get siege and supply seems also misplaced, since the commander is only one player.
The rest of your rant makes me wonder whether at least some of the people complaining about commanders not listening or being democratic wouldn’t act as badly if not worse in a similar situation.
Can’t think of any downsides to this, though I also don’t think 6s is expensive for a blueprint. Your group should be taking turns buying siege, in which case you’ll come out on top.
If you’re someone who’s only going to deploy siege you got for free free then perhaps you’re part of the reason people might feel punished for buying blueprints.
I’m glad you made this thread, because it sounds like you’re just throwing yourself out there every night with no sense of progress or return. That isn’t how WvW should be. You haven’t said much about your server situation, I know it can get pretty ugly on some of them, so if you’re outmanned/getting spawn camped daily then the following won’t be much use to you.
If you’re travelling with a zerg, then yes, your success will depend on your ability to tag targets. At the same time you’re more exposed because your focus is on melee. When you do end up in a zerg fight, charging in will, as I’m sure you realize, get you killed. Your best bet is to play your support role while the ranged players decide the outcome, if your enemy turns tail, take that as your opportunity to move forward and tag some kills. It sounds like the reason you’re not getting kills is because you’re dead before one side has been routed.
However, if you’re playing with a guild then you should be able to act as a more mobile force. This kind of play lets you hit a lot mokittengets for event rewards and should put you in smaller combat situations that let your profession shine more. You have speed buffs you can bring to the group and they should reciprocate.
If this is what you’re doing, and you’re still struggling, it’s probably time to consider how you’re playing with your profession. Do you know how what the strengths of your build are? You sound skeptical of “specialized builds”, which is fair if you’re referring to builds focused on tagging targets, but not fair if you just mean builds that are designed to have particular strengths. Have you sought help in the guardian forums or read threads already posted there? Do you enjoy using a guardian, and have you tried other professions?
One thing that has been mentioned is using siege during defense, which can be very rewarding. It’s an investment, and if you’re strapped for cash you can always run the jumping puzzles once a day (though borderland puzzles are bugged right now) to get free blueprints. You should also man siege that has been added to your fortifications through upgrades.
For my part, I roll a mesmer tilted towards melee and support. We’re a really slow class, we essentially have one option for swiftness and it’s tied to a weapon. I focus on whatever objectives need attention, and those are most often the smaller ones: yaks, supply camps, sentries. It doesn’t take long to take down any one of those, but it often means a lot of PvE instead of PvP.
For me, large zerg fights aren’t a great source of income and there’s not much I can do to decide them. I’ve given up the GS so I can’t dish out damage at range. But most people go down trying to flee, not in the middle of the battle itself; hanging back so you’re alive to chase those targets down is what’s going to earn you the coin.
