What gets me is:

o They’re like 0 for 5 success rate on the “New, Exciting, Etc.”

o They’re 5 for 5 on kittening off the whole community with the “New, Exciting, Etc.”

o They had a great content delivery system in GW1 but refuse to use it.

o Calling something “An Expansion worth of Content” is an oxymoron. The only thing that’s an Expansion worth of Content… is an Expansion.

o It’s not like it’s only the Forum posters that notice.

So, it looks PAX South will turn out to be another “You don’t need a boxed expansion cuz <insert lame excuse> and we’re here to talk about the next Living Story! er… uh…Living WORLD!” Yeah, I saw the logo too. Sigh… how long are they gonna fiddle around with “New, Exciting, Etc.” until they realize “New, Exciting, Etc.” isn’t working. For a great example look at LS S1 – all that development money and it’s flushed down the drain. Never to be played again. Even worse, it broke Personal Story for new players.

Professional advice from a Systems Engineer: Stop trying to re-invent the wheel. “Back to the Basics” is your friend…

Thanks for that link!!!! +1

Oh you guys, buck up!

We don’t get a lot of snow in Bellevue, so I’m a huge fan of the snowy regions. I have to admit, though, that some evenings I’m wearing socks and slippers to keep my feet warm, and the images from Frostgorge Sound sure don’t help. Brrrrrr!

Come up to visit in Toronto to experience real cold this week. Bring 4 pairs of socks.

I believe the game is CPU dependent, video card doesn’t have to do that much.
It is lag not on ISP and more likely on ANets side.

The OP is not having a lag issue the OP is having fps issues this is defenetly a hardware, software or configuration issue on the OP’s end, blaming Anet servers is not helpful.

I wasn’t the only one. I also don’t experience lag very often the big battles are usually smooth, while I see in chat “LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG”. Yes that is most likely hardware, but when I experience it (did I mention rarely) it is on Anets side. (check out the many threads about lag).

Most of the people who keep pointing out there are TWELVE and there were TWELVE are missing the point entirely of the people who are unhappy with the change to dailies. It’s the specificity of the requirements, not the number of them, that is an issue. Going from choose any five of: kill 50 things (anywhere – PvE, PvP, WvW); gather 20 things (anywhere – PvE, WvW), salvage 10 things (anywhere – PvE, PvP, WvW), complete 5 events (anywhere – PvE, PvP(?), WvW), etc, etc, etc, to very, very specific subsets of said generic dailies (now, only harvest logs in THIS MAP) means that instead of playing in your preferred mode, you must go to X spot. So, while I could have done all of my dailies before while playing what I want, in the game mode I choose, I cannot do that now. I don’t see why this easy concept is so difficult for people to understand. We had choice and that choice is taken away.

This makes the new dailies seem way more like a chore to MANY. Maybe not YOU and YOU, but MANY. Just because the change makes you happy, does not mean that other peoples’ feelings of frustration or lack of enthusiasm are invalid.

Absolutley right, most is not all, that are promoting the new dailies just seem unable to comprehend this. Hopefully the devs will be able to do so.

Smells of an attempt to hide the “dirty laundry,” but hey, it’s their forums. We only post here as (barely tolerated) guests and must abide by their (increasingly draconian) rules:

  1. ArenaNet can do no wrong.
  2. See rule #1.

Yep. This sums it up for me.

Agree—-they continue with this type of strong behaviour(and I agree on the hidden agenda too) , instead of investing their time/energy and money on getting new and fully functional forum software that would better serve the interests of their clientele, the game and the Anet staff.

P.S. just saw the updated post—now if that was presented first—-this would be a dead issue. But again,it seems, a ‘alternative plan’ was presented after negative feedback.
And also a +1 Luna!!! The ONLY reasonable thing to do is to get new fully functional forums and software.

Still an opinion that does not give a clue to what to be done or how to do it. An opinion made just to make someone angry with that opinion and explain another opinion (in other words, fishing for an argument = Trolling).

You’re choosing to let it make you angry. Stating one left the game over something and doesn’t find ‘x’ fun, is not fishing for an argument anymore than someone saying they love the game and find ‘x’ fun is.

Honestly, this thread could be considered trolling if we want to use your broad definitions….

In my many years of working experience, this is exactly the type of thing that someone who desperately wants to justify their paycheck (but knows they actually do not deserve it as they aren’t really qualified) would do. I would say that is false premise or just a straight up lie. It is an obvious attempt to reintroduce a mount thread and circumvent the mount merge by pretending to introduce a new subject to hide that it is nothing than another mount thread. It is nothing more than another give us mounts thread.

I have one very, very big problem with the new dailies, and that’s the Daily Completionist. To me, it’s only a bit annoying, but i know a whole lot of people i care about that have a strong dislike for WvW, PvP or both. Essentially, to profit from the achievement points from the Daily Completionist achievement, you’re forcing my friends to play game modes that they don’t like, ranging from simple dislike while some i’d need a straitjacket to get into sPvP.
I personally don’t like doing PvP daily, either. It’s something i do every now and then, but primarily, i’m a PvE player, and i seriously don’t appreciate being forced into PvP everyday for my daily achievement points, when up to now it was just casual for me, something i’d do whenever i felt like it, which wasn’t too often.

Besides that, i don’t really have anything against the new dailies. I really like the fact i can distribute the XP to my lower level warrior to level her up, rather than having it dumped on my level 80 where it’s almost useless to me, and i like the fact that the Black Lion chest rewards you occasionally get are now on a more fixed rotation rather than being random and rare. I just.. get a chest right now every day, and i’m reasonably excited every few times i open it, because i know it’s gonna have something nice. And, during normal play, i’d usually complete my daily achievements anyway.

I’m kinda sad to see monthlies go though, but i think the new system offers adequate replacement.

You don’t have to do anything other than PvE to get the daily completionist.

True—but the PvE options truely sux.

I don’t really mind this new system, but it can sometimes feel odd. Like, I had to do Ascalon miner the other day, and went to one of the zones and was only there to find some nodes and never did anything else there. It felt like a chore, wasted time. Under the old system, I just did want I wanted to do, and the achievements happened along the way. This new system makes you go out of your way to get specific things in specific zones. But again they are easy so it’s not a major drama.

But I feel like I’m being sent somewhere I didn’t really want to go – it feels artificial and clunky.

This is a very good summary of how I feel about this new system. I don’t play games to be forced into doing content I don’t want to do. The direction of this game is ArenaNet’s to choose, but if this is the continued direction there is less and less bringing me back each day.

I really don’t understand this concept of “FORCED” that you whiners keep coming back to. You get the rewards that you would have had to do 5 achievements for in the old system for the daily literally the moment you log on. From that point, you can choose to do their suggested stuff, or go off and do whatever you like. It doesn’t matter, because the time gated currency that you were doing the dailies for, YOU GOT IT ALREADY.

And before you jump in and say that you were doing them for the AP, if you were really doing them for the AP, then you would have been spending at minimum an hour if not more just chasing dailies around in the old system to get the same amount that you can now get in literally 5 minutes.

BS——I could to the old dailies in no time, I have never spent an hr doing dailies— I DIDN"T HAVE TO CHASE THEM—I completed them as I did what I wanted!!! I was doing them for AP, and working towards my chests. How in, anyones mind, can you say take my lvl 80 to escort a pack bull for about 10 minutes is an improvement in the system? Or stop what I was doing in orr to visit some low lvl vista in Silverpeak. You post is quite short on accuraccy but it is full of exaggeration.

Once again, you can still do the activities and get the rewards the exact same way as the old dailies.

That is an absolute LIE. I cannot get the awards “EXACT SAME WAY”.
I have to go to a specific area to do a specific chore, before you could complete activities while you were playing in the area that you wanted.

The daily achievement chests are IN ADDITION TO the daily reward which is NOW given to you for logging in.

If you never do another daily again, you will still continue to get the old daily rewards because they are funneled into your account on login.

Thanks for confirming it’s not exactly the same way.

Seems you know more about all the players than anyone else, even those that didn’t mind the old dailies.

I had no problem with the old dailies and became part of an enjoyable experience while achieving other goals in an area of my choice when I wanted to.
Yep, leaving orr to escort a pack bull in Queensdale(and pay for the wp), then paying to WP to some obscure area to get a vista, then paying to wp to ……… some task far removed from what I was doing.
If it was gather xxx amount, visit a vista, do xxx event on whatever map you are currently on then I would have no problem with the new system.

Oh well this is likely not to have any impact on the powers that be to change the very restrictive dictated tasks to something else.

If you’re intent on only doing PvE, then you’ve got a self-imposed restriction that is making it more difficult than it needs to be for you.

I’m not going to speak against this new system until I tried it. However, I never agree with the content cross references.

It’s a bit like telling a MYST player to go play Call of Duty because it builds character.

Not everyone feels like doing competitive things every day. I personally enjoy PvP more when I don’t have to do it.

The thing is though, the entire point of dailies is to incentivize players to participate in different content. They weren’t very good at doing that before, so this change improves their ability to perform their purpose at the cost of removing the ease at which they were formerly completed (the ease which was the main reason they didn’t achieve their purpose).

Sorry but having to go to Queensdale and follow/ protect the pack bull or gathing plants in the jungle(for example)are nothing but forced manipulation by Anet to complete mediocre activites that that take you away from the game you wish to play.
Of course they are optional, but thats not the point.

Then don’t do them? All you’re losing out on is AP and if AP mattered to you then I’d be surprised that you wouldn’t jump at the fact you get 10 AP for much less work than what was required before.

It wasn’t work before, because I got them as I played where and how I wanted too. Now I have to waste coin to wp and waste time to go to the areas complete them regardless of how easy it is to do get them.

I think login rewards are BS in any game, but I guess I’m glad they added them because I doubt I’ll do the dailies much now, which is OK, but I’ll miss the old, loose framing of my play time.

Previously, I thought the GW2 dailies were the best I’d seen in any game because they were so unstructured. I usually got my daily finished organically, by just running around doing whatever I felt like. Worst case, I’d end up 4/5 and have to pay attention for 5 min. to finish up. On nights when I wasn’t feeling particularly goal directed, I could use the daily to add a bit of structure to something like map completion on an alt.

The old system fit my play style like a comfy sweater. The new one is more like a tight shoe. Fortunately, I don’t have to wear them since ANet hasn’t tied the dailies to anything compelling to me. I still think it’s a shame, though, that they wrecked what felt to me like a near perfect system.

That’s it in a nutshell. +1

Thank you. That’s what I had read in the blog post and seen.

So the only incentive to do the daily is for the 10 AP. You only have to do 3 daily achievements now to get 10 AP compared to before where you had to do 10. I can tell you from experience that getting all of the daily achievements before the update took between 30-60 minutes depending on your luck with a few.

Calling you out on that one—-30 – 60 minutes? Maybe 5- 10 minutes on some days sometime a bit more but NEVER EVER 60 minutes unless you weren’t actively trying.
There is no luck with the old daily system—only the ability/skill to complete them is a timly manner.

Once again, dumbing down and hand-holding for clueless players who migrated from Android games… which, accidentally, once again leads to additional limits and constraints for loyal veteran players.

Earlier:

  • Do what you want. Enjoy your time, casually play the game the way it was supposed to be played (leveling, events, gathering, dungeons, fractals…).
  • Get rewarded for playing the game.

Now:

  • Log in. Get rewarded for logging in!
  • Go out of your way and do things you do not like to get rewarded. Go to a place you do not like, go at a time which is inconvenient for you, do things you do not want.
  • Get rewarded for agreeing to do the content you didn’t want to do in the first place!

I do not like daily PvP and “competitive” PvP elitism. I do not like daily WvW and zergs. I once loved world bosses, but nerfs and megaservers ruined them for me. Why, why do I have to do it to get my supply of laurels and other important things?

This sounds like 2 cheap tricks to boost metrics for those who care about numbers more then about people, and make it look like there’s a lot of content in the game. Sad truth: there’s only “a lot of content in the game” when every player who enjoys specific type of content has enough of it, not when you force players to do stuff they don’t want.

ANet, before even rolling out this system, please see player’s concerns regarding forced specific daily requirements! I have a separate topic on it here because I think it’s important enough.

[SNIP] We regret that the search engine is not functioning properly right now…

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the search engine ever worked? If so, when did it stop working? I’m not sure that I recall that it ever worked, but I could be mistaken.

In any case, I’m having a difficult time understanding why exactly the forum search engine would be broken for so long and/or be so difficult to fix. Nearly every forum on the internet has a working search engine; it’s not brand-new cutting-edge technology. Honestly, is ANet doing so poorly financially that it cannot afford to have forum tools that work?

The problem is deep within the technology behind the forum structure itself. Yes, we had a search engine in the beginning, but it was broken by our forum contractor in the course of working on other things. We no longer have a relationship with that contractor or his company, and someone else is not able to step into the system and fix the search engine because (1) our programmers are tasked with other essential work, (2) the forums run on a web framework with which most of our programmers are not familiar and (3) we’re investigating other options for forums and it would not be prudent to pour money into hiring someone to fix this as a short-term solution.

My team agrees that it would be great to share the system that is outlined in the OP, and we’re going to figure out a way to do that. It won’t be as simple as “plumbing” the current search window to go to Google — each of us still will need to input the search manually, but it’s better than the current “poke and prod” to find a particular post!

I have to say this is the problem. Anet’s priority should have been to aquire new and fully funtional forum software as soon as the problems with the maker surfaced. I can only assume the decision not to aquire new forum software was made outside of the games’ division and based only on saving money.
