I love using the Elemental glyph while in fire… so nice to get 3 random stacks of might or have the enemy crippled (or both) all the while it does great damage and evades attacks. The AI isn’t perfect but AI won’t be perfect… and compared to any other AI companion I’ve had (done a lil with ranger, no necro though, and anyone you get partnered up with for story missions) I would have to say the Fire Elemental is actually a bit OP.

Not trying to complain, don’t want it nerfed to hell as well… but if you stop and think about it you probably wouldn’t complain that it’s a bad skill.

The option would be waypoint travel… if you want to get there for free having to participate in an instance is quite a simple cost.

I don’t get why everyone always cries about waypoints costing too much and wanting free travel everywhere – use the waypoint if you’re impatient and if you’re greedy then take the time to walk (or in this case ride the boat and do an event).

If you’re both, go get a different game since I’m sure the devs don’t want to deal with you anymore than we love hearing your constant complaints about things.

And in the future, where we might have boat trips to all kinds of places (other islands, Cantha, etc.), it would be great if stuff actually happened on the voyage.

Hopefully the trips to other continents occurs on airships…

I coulda sworn that airships were promised in the game, and that in an interview someone talking to a dev joked about guild airships…

Anyways point is there’s a lot of missed opportunities here – we have really high hopes Anet so please give it some thought.

Those are karma armor pieces, I know they are located in Kessex Hills with heart vendors. So they can’t be on TP.

Perhaps I’m using the site wrong, since it’s not providing me any information I don’t already know (ie what the PvP armor name is)

The helm I know is PvP Scaled = Draconic (knew this before making the thread thanks to the Trading Post)
The coat and leggings I’m looking for are PvP Pit Fighter’s
The arms and feet I’m looking for are PvP Splint

if the PvE names are simply “Pit Fighter’s” and “Splint” then can someone explain to me why these don’t show up on the Trading Post?

Talks about them setting up arenas that people can rent to do 1v1 duels and the like… personally I’d rather not spend my time rejecting a bunch of random duel invites when I’m in PvE – no reward vs getting something accomplished is to me a no brainer.

And if your suggestion included a way to block said requests well then it would be pointless to include anyways. If someone’s really bragging and won’t go 1v1 you in a custom arena you can just point it out and go back to your business, since if I saw said conversation it would make me ignore the braggart as well.

Afaik this should work in PvE solo play because glass is fine there. However in parties you would just be a liability. The other day ran fotm with 2 staff ekitten th were dps glass both spent a lot of time downed. It got to the point that I was suiciding to rez everyone because they all went glass.

Glass has some very limited uses in this game because in many cases you have to deal with your own aggro and mobs. The problem with ele is our burst is not very bursty outside some boss battles. Vets packs etc will eat through you without some form of defensive stats. You don’t have to heal a party (your’e right its mostly a waist outside cleanses). The thing to remember is that our personal healing is on the very good/great side. You don’t need to change you build for the general but most glass builds like this are heavily dependent on support classes in group PvE.

Interesting, I’ll have to keep this in mind as I continue to play. I haven’t done a lot of FotM and not had this build since the last normal dungeon run I’ve done, so it’ll be interesting to see if I can manage alright with the healing skills not having much oomph to them.

I will say that the thing that hurts me the most in group PvE is other players not doing any damage lol. Guardians and Warriors want to run up and melee the vets and champions and by the time they get there I have all the aggro and they’re stuck chasing the mob chasing me. Even in Orr I once ran with an 80 engineer and groups of mobs would ignore him (even if he attacked ones that I wasn’t directly attacking) and run me down…

Being as there’s no real class system to this game, I’m wondering what a dungeon run would be like if there were 4 other people with builds similar to mine so that the mobs would simply be dead instead of a challenge.

We weren’t saying that we are bad at the game, or even hinting it. We were simply stating a little more variation would be nice. I’m sorry you cannot understand that.

I don’t do PvP, so I wouldn’t understand the problems that occur there. It seemed to me like your complaint was based on the fact you can’t spec into condition damage and direct damage – which was all I was trying to prove is it is possible if you sacrifice other aspects of your character.

If you want to be able to spec into condition damage, power, toughness, vitality, and precision then you don’t want to play this game – it is made so that players have to choose what they want is most important and play that style of character. Variation exists only because of that process – if you want to do it all then you’re not wanting to play this game.

And you’re correct, you can’t dodge every attack… however there are builds using shadowstep and the trait to regen endurance when using a dodge – that can allow you to put everything into your attack and leave yourself vulnerable with plenty of chances to live. If you don’t want to use the tools available to the thief it’s your problem not something the Devs need to change.

Again, I don’t play PvP – so perhaps the things I suggest are simply in the category labelled as ‘bad builds’… but it’s your choice to play your thief one of two ways not the devs, so I seriously wouldn’t expect much change regarding what your original suggestion requests. I’ll stop replying here now so you can continue to ask for whatever, just wanted to make sure you understood my point wasn’t to be rude – just to state a fact. Hope you’re able to have fun in the game.

It’s a glassy build cause lately I’ve been soloing a lot lol… I had a good group build but when I do PuG dungeons or dynamic events anytime I did skills to help heal the group I would always see them using heal skills right after like it was completely wasted effort.

I’ll prolly make a more support based build if my guild ever gets super heavy into dungeon runs, but having things dead as fast as possible is my current target.

It’s taken me quite a few rebuilds, and I’m certainly open to more suggestions… but barring the acquisition of a full set of exotics (some of my gear is rare) and a legendary weapon this is the best Glass Cannon I could build…

edit for some reason the link doesn’t work from the GW2 forums though it does from social media, so here’s the low down if it still isn’t working. I run staff with glyphs of elemental harmony, storms, lesser elementals and the elite glyph; as well as cleansing fire. Traits are 30 fire (burning precision, internal fire, pyromancers puissance) 30 air (quick glyphs, inscription, tempest defense) and 10 arcane (elemental attunement)

My character’s stats are:
Power – 2,046
Precision – 2,160
Toughness – 916
Vitality – 916
Attack – 3,087
Critical Chance – 63%
Armor – 1,731
Health – 10,805

I’m running a full set of Superior runes of Balthazar, which grant an unaccounted for +15% Burn Duration, 5 seconds of Haste when health falls below 20% (90 sec CD), and using a healing skill burns nearby foes for 3 seconds (10 second CD). Weapon is equipped with Superior Sigil of Rage which grants quickness on criticals (10% chance).

What I was aiming to do with this build is keep a constant might buff equipped, while causing as much damage and DoT through burning as possible. I’ve found that I attunement swap a bit less than previous builds… but mobs seem to die noticably faster which is good since I die fairly fast myself lol.

Anyways, any tips for different utility skills to try out or perhaps a trait to substitue would be appreciated… only costs 3 and a half silver to try them out so I’m not afraid to.

I don’t get it… but then again I run an Ele build that burns on 30% of critical hits in addition to all the skills that can directly apply burning to an enemy. I run around Orr doing on average over 1k damage a hit with spikes up to 1500 – just from the auto-attack.

I’ve chosen to invest in both Power and Condition damage, so my level 80 character has an attack rating in the Hero panel that reads 3,084.

I choose to go with both damage types because direct damage can be negated by a high toughness in the enemies, while DoT will result in my death since some have such a high vitality.

Or are you just so unable to dodge that you feel forced to spec into Vit and Toughness thus in your opinion eliminating the chance at having both Direct and Condition damage?

About the whole character building point you make, I think you just should spend more time in the game building it – won’t say you’re doing it wrong but this game was made (very well) for any profession to do any role, so perhaps there’s just something you missed.

I am not trying to convince you, as you can not convince a convicted person. Just saying Anet wants people to experience WvWvW as that was a major selling point of the games release. They spent a lot of time focusing on that.

Also I am sure your not alone I never had any disillusion that you were, just saying that the WvWvW requirement is very very small. Also if your the type of player that doesn’t complete the Monthly any how

Why does it matter that there is a WvWvW part in there?

I see your point people who only choose to do PvE and no PvP shouldn’t be subjected to a PvP atmosphere. Although to say your being punished for having to kill 15 people that can literally take you 20 minutes to do, I don’t agree with you.

I guess it is a matter of perspective, Anet wants people to experience WvWvW so who do they target? People that PvP and probably will WvWvW? No not likely, rather the people that PvE. In fact to get your legendary you have to do map completion which requires you to do WvWvW. There are many avenues of how Anet is getting or trying to get people to experience it. weather you choose to partake in it is your choice.

In the end result I can gain more benefits from doing events in Orr in 3 days as I can doing a monthly. So there is your option you don’t want to WvWvW do other things, the game is built around choices. You can’t fault Arena Net for attempting to get people to play something they boosted about for months before release.

It doesn’t matter that there’s a WvW part to me, I wouldn’t spend time doing the monthly unless it turned out to be fun, like the fractals dungeon path requirement. Doing 7 paths was a no brainer because I wanted to play the game.

People who PvP all the time now get 2 more achievement categories and all they have to do is have fun. People who do PvE all the time because it’s fun – have to stop and do WvW if they want the reward for having fun? That’s just not fair, and if it’s not all about having fun – then why aren’t there actual challenges to getting the rewards? You said it yourself, whether hardcore or casual getting the achievement doesn’t take any time at all – so if it’s not meant to be fun where’s the challenge?

It’s mainly because as you said I can spend my time in other zones and get better rewards than the monthly gives – that I personally don’t waste time with the monthly. I prefer to have fun so I do that instead of the monthly… but why do they get rewarded because what they like is what Anet considers fun?

It’s not balanced, and that’s a problem even if people can live with it – should they have to? Suggestion is to fix it and I support it.

Bvhjdbvkjf.1987, I don’t moan when I have a headache, but if I did it would be from the physical pain of the headache, not mental stress, so I don’t really understand your reasoning here. Regardless, we mostly agree that casting a spell isn’t physical stress, so grunting when I heal myself is what is silly here. These grunts are nothing more than noise pollution that I am really getting tired of hearing when I play.

Also, I didn’t ask them to eliminate it. I asked them to to make it more proportionate to the activity that is being done at the time, as stated in my original post.

Completely off topic reply here so I’m sorry… but I don’t moan when I have a pain in my head either.

I moan when I realize how stupid some of the people I work with are and that I have to re-explain something for the 5th time, that’s mental stress.

When my head hurts – I usually just wince a bit and close my eyes till it goes away.

WvWvW is A.Net’s big thing, so of course they are going to try and get people to experience it.

This whole thing is not a big deal to me as I tried to first point out in my original reply…
however the fact it’s not balanced isn’t changed – and until such time as it is balanced whether it’s a big deal or not isn’t the issue, it’s the fairness of the game.

But that exact statement say’s it is a Big deal for you, How long does it take you to complete any other part of your Monthly achievements. for me usually a week. In PvP it takes at least a week to do most of the bars.

So in turn your right there is an unbalance. PvP people usually have to spend about a week per a bar to complete one. PvE people can spend one hour and complete a bar.

I mean your hard core players can do it in less time, I know some that can complete all their monthly’s in less than a week. I am stating this to the casual player.

hardcore players can do the achievement in a week, casual a month – but people who want to play PvE and just that, are punished. can we get the ability to inspect armor for the skin names? I really could care less what stats people have – I did MK as a level 80 with 4 people who were leveled 32-46… it was fun.

But I would love to see some of these skins people wear and what they’re called, since your PvP locker is STUPID and the Trading Post has no way to preview.

Recently updated, there are now 4 categories, Daily, Daily PvP, Monthly, and Monthly PvP…

And you know what, if Anet really wants to push WvW on people that’s fine by me. There’s another change they can make that would balance it out too, in Monthly keep a WvW tally – in Monthly PvP put a WvW event completion requirement…

if both categories force people into WvW for at least one thing, then it’s not like people who do only structured PvP are getting rewards for not having to expand their gameplay like us PvE players.

How do you figure there is no penalty?

There are plenty of people I know that never do any WvWvW and just PvP they stay at level 2 and PvP. They can never achieve the monthly or daily. Yet they are not complaining about it, it is a choice.

I am sorry you don’t like PvP but the GW franchise is knowing for their PvP.

What I mean by there’s no penalty is that if you look at the Daily PvP and Monthly PvP categories, they’re rewarded for what they already do nothing new is added as a challenge.

When I want to do the Monthly category (not the PvP one mind you) I have to stop playing the game I enjoy and go into WvW – that’s a penalty. WvW is not PvE and even if it’s not PvP we’re the ones getting no benefits from playing the game since we’re choosing not to play aspects we don’t like. A PvPer that doesn’t want to do WvW – now gets to automatically get achievement rewards for playing the exact same way they have been, and it needs balancing.

Definitely had drifter’s above mentioned problem myself, in addition to lag causing my character to attack additional times (not just once) after the targeted enemy was dead and lying on the ground, thus the attack went to the next mob behind it and I had something else to kill.

Nice to see someone else with this on going problem. I would blame lag but I run GW2 in and around 57-65 fps with max settings, and if there is alot of spells going off at once I drop to 35-40 fps which is not to bad. Lag usualy happens at 30 fps and below. So when I am 1v1 on a mob there is no excuse for my target to autochange from what I am already locked on to, to some other target off in the distance. I blame the auto target design. Not lag.

Ever start attacking something and the target is invulnerble. until you get right ontop of the target to get out of invulnerble? Or better yet while attacking the target and it is almost dead will automaticly go invulnerable regen full health then start attacking you again? Somethings messed up with the auto targeting system.

AND IT NEEDS FIXED.

I’ve actually used Lava Font, where an enemy will spawn (for example right after closing a portal to the underworld) and because it takes damage before it finishes loading it causes the invulnerability effect you spoke of. The only way to kill it is to then walk out of range entirely and then start from scratch.

But the invulnerability of mobs I’ve come across has never been due to the targeting of mobs, so can’t say I share that problem.

Hard mode could be fun – but it makes no sense to do it the way stated in the original post.

If you want to toggle on a hard mode, asking for an option to be downleveled 5-10 levels more than normal is the way to go.

The requirements for your monthly WvWvW kills is very low, I can spend an hour in a WvWvW match and complete it.

Even if you don’t like WvWvW it is still not that hard, it is not like Anet is saying you have to spend 2 weeks trying to achieve this.

There’s only one reason I’ll never get the monthly completion, requiring me to kill other players at all is stupid. I don’t give a kitten how fun it can be or how little time it may take, it’s just plain stupid and as long as there’s no penalty for PvP fanatics to get their achievements, it’s not balanced (like the rest of the game)

Yes putting a range thingy in the skills is just simplifying an aspect of the game for the people who want to be lazy and not learn their classes.

I feel if your playing a profession you should learn range weakness and strength of it before you start trying to compete on a scale such as TPvP or WvWvW. I know the approximate distance of my longbow shots, if I fire off a shot that I thought I had and it was not in range well that is my fault, next time I will learn to get closer.

Notification for the range of skills already exists btw – it’s either the skill has a red line under it if target (or should nothing be selected, anything) is out of range. And ground-targeted abilities have a red circle when out of range…

The original problem posted was that skills used incorrectly should not go to CD, which I disagree with.

I do think that skills out of sight range of the character should not go on CD though – because the character would not logically target someone they cannot see. In those cases the skill should just not go off.

When I first activated the trip with the NPC I was honestly expecting something akin to the ferry rides from FFXI – where you could fish mobs to fight and if you were (un)lucky skeleton pirates would attack.

Then I found myself already standing in Southsun, the trip cut off my trip down memory lane it was that short. Definitely should be an instance as once you go and unlock the waypoints you can avoid travel time if you really dislike it.

wasted skills shouldn’t avoid the CD…

if my character has no line of sight, and I can’t tell because that tree obviously doesn’t look in the way to me, Anet should think something along these lines: Would someone who saw a tree really shoot an arrow at an enemy behind it?

line of sight should not cause a CD effect, out of range – yes.

Well if they stick by their lore – a leveled Ebon Hawke would stay leveled for a time. Unles the statue in LA has been repaired from the Mad Thorn King already and I’m too blind to notice it.

I’m sure that Anet has a lot of one-time events in mind, perhaps this is one we’ll just have to wait and see since 1 a month will likely be their norm at max.

And if you’re not talking about it being one time – then you’ll have to scale back the epicness of your post to where the town doesn’t get affected so badly and the rest of the events and etc can still go on.

I think a practice arena where you can 1v1 a friend (or random person) is a good idea…

but it belongs in the mists where all the other PvP stuff is. If they do start expanding PvP – while not a bad thing – it could get seriously annoying as PvE is already laggy and glitchy as hell.

Besides, last thing I want is to have to run by a stadium where rangers can battle their pets against each other pokemon style, if people want it fine – but put it somewhere I don’t have to see it.

Moving it to the ‘Monthly PvP’ category would be best… since no matter who you are you won’t convince me WvW isn’t PvP

It does seem like the achievements are geared more towards PvP fanatics though – I mean the points are useless so who would care about them aside from people in PvP constantly?

I did when doing the daily as I leveled up low characters, but aside that completing them isn’t important and it takes me less than a month to get a character to level 80 so – it’s not like I need the reward from monthly to help me level faster.

Honestly I would love to see them put a requirement in the Monthly PvP category for players to have to craft (not loot) PvP armor, only seems fair that they inhibit those folks since they’re more likely than not to continue inhibiting PvE players as far as the monthly goes.

Has anyone seen this helmet in PvE?

The PvP Tactical set is found via the random Karma vendors from Straights of Devestation through Malachor’s Leap and whatever the last zone is called – I forget its name.

They all share the same skins so if you plan to transmute then getting the helm from the Straights would save you karma.

Edit – so long as the PvP tactical set you’re sharing is the light armor… I never really looked through the medium and heavy sets.

@Iron Wolf – The Guardian profession is for those looking for easy mode. And though you have a good point it requires me to adjust my skillbar and doesn’t solve the issue at hand which is the game tends to lock you ‘in combat’ even when you and anything that has aggro’d you at any point in time do absolutely nothing for extended periods of time.

Because you can get gathering tools through purchase with Karma, and Karma must remain untransferrable.

So they’d either have to eliminate Karma vendors for them thus making the currency more useless again – or keep the tools soulbound. I’m for option B personally…

Could have something to do with Thieves Guild, as a necro a lot of the times my pets will keep me in combat, even when nothing is attacking me/them. It’s more like residual agro or something that doesn’t reset. I usually just log out/in to fix it.

Even after they die/disappear – we should keep aggro if we’re no where around? That’s something that needs attention because it’s not the way the game should work…

And for the record, hadn’t used thieves guild – and even if I had when you go underwater they disappear just like the Elemenatlist’s summoned elemenatals which don’t work underwater either.

I’m not a fan of the in combat speed being different, would love to be able to play the game at a faster pace. But they probably have the in combat speed nerfed because of the casual players who needs more time to use skills and stuff. I’m certain if Anet increased our base run speed to match outside combat they’d increase all the mobs’ combat movement speeds as well to balance it back out and then we’d only hear complaints about the people who feel there’s not enough time to make effective combat choices.

Yeah see… difference is I swam to that spot. I didn’t run out from the houses in those pictures that flame legion charr are occupying so if it’s barracuda aggroing me keeping me from doing anything it’s still something Anet needs to fix. (And considering those Barracuda then decided to attack an armorfish instead, doubt I kept aggro from them)

Furthermore, I used the healing skill which stealths my thief and thus eliminates sources of aggro… or it has in the past. The fact of the matter is you said you had to kill stuff to get out of such a situation yourself… I’m asking for people to discuss how often they run into this and what they have to do to fix it so Anet can do something about it. One person reporting it doesn’t fix it and if you all just ignore the fact the problem exists it won’t be any better months from now – then I have to listen to all the WoW kids make a big deal out of this one bug that at that point still hasn’t gotten fixed. Cause you know they need something else to complain about…

So been having the issue still… does no one else really get this at all? Even took screenshots for you to look at – haven’t moved my character at all and over the course of several minutes of doing absolutely nothing (even the character does those stupid bored animations) I’m still in combat and unable to change gear or skills or use waypoints or anything…

It has now been roughly ten minutes (yes I assembled this whole post whilst waiting for the game to do something) since it started this time. Seriously – am I supposed to be able to play the game or is it mandatory to just keep dying since you won’t let me change my approach to situations?

Lmao what we’re done comparing the game to WoW and Rift and TOR? Now we’re comparing it to FFXIV?

I’m totally against a reset, this game is no where near as horrible as you all say and I’ve yet to see any proof that a reset would get rid of botters/gold sellers OR fix any of the bugs that exist.

Please elaborate on how such a reset would actually solve anything, so long as it’s a “what if” scenario all that’s going to result is history repeating itself and people getting fed up with the fact they lost everything for no benefit whatsoever.

Edit – had to substitue the word result for happ-en since it made half that word Kitten for some reason.

The waypoint outside every home instance zone in the main cities could logically be an option… or whichever is closest to the Asura gate in that town since going through LA is free.

As mentioned above it would cut down load times which should be just as convenient for them as us… less shuffling to overflow and back.

Have one 80 now who is almost halfway awesome and an alt over halfway there, but leveling my alt is a bit slow since helping friends with their stories has proven to be unrewarding as heck. I’m almost at the point of telling them good luck while I go find some DE to do because Karma’s already useless on my 80 so getting more for this one seems pointless.

And because I only get to spend a few hours a day in game, and because rewards in general are getting worse with each patch (for me) making coin is beginning to bore me my 80 is probably going to be half awesome until my friends get up to 80 themselves.

There is a class that can remove boons… it’s Mesmer (and maybe Necro haven’t looked at their skills).

You want to disable enemy skills sacrifice your armor and hp to go for a skill based build. Warriors are supposed to be brute strength why should they get something intelligent like boon removal – and by shouting?

As far as I know, no…there is no way to tell how long someone has been offline, nor representing.

I think that’s why he’s suggesting the devs implement the idea…

which makes total sense to me, dunno whether last login time would be enough to tell or if it should be a reflection of hours played over the past <time period>. Please expand on what you’d like to see OP cause it’s a good idea but for those who don’t manage guilds we’d like to know what you think is the best method for tracking active players.

I struggled to get anywhere from levels 27-45 when I first leveled my ele – not a whole lot of a build (or at the time people in my level range doing DE) so I took the WvW strategy to PvE. People say to hide behind others and deal damage…

In Fields of Ruin there’s a heart just oustide Ebonhawke in which you repel the Charr renegades and Separatists, and you fight alongside the Ebon Gurad. NPCs tank really well and even at level 27 I could do enough in that zone to get xp (and bonus xp for being lower level).

Same thing can be said about Blazeridge Steppes, when you zone in from Fields of Ruin to the strip of branded land there’s a heart to stop branded and help investigate ascalonian ghost stuff, the Sentinels that roam out there (at the time) could drop to 0 health and just heal themselves to full and keep fighting… and if that’s not a good NPC tank I don’t know what is. Also started that region about level 37 for the bonus XP until I learned the pattern of the branded attacks and could start participating in the DE for Steeleye whatever…

@ Mercury – thanks for those links, knowing what they look like helps make sure I don’t spend money on those skins, even if they only show when I’m representing (which is all the time) they’re a bit ugly.

The armor’s not as bad (nor the shield I suppose) but just won’t really match my preferences so guess I’ll just stick to the backpack.

I’m 80 and still have Earths Embrace… it doesn’t so much help keep me alive but when I drop to a certain point it helps me ignore control effects which can be a game changer.
