Personally, I say just play the game and see for yourself, I personally am having a ton of fun (and I have NOT been grinding for gear at all, just been working on my personal story and leveling and inviting friends to play.
In my oppinion, this game is FANTASTIC, it just seems like the people in the game and in the forums are completely different groups of people, in game people are praising it, in the forums alot of people are trashing it, I say, don’t read the forums except for the Announcements and updates, I also hear that most forums for games are extremely negative anyway.
Just play the game yourself and decide for yourself whether or not you like it and the latest updates.
0.o What made you think this thread was an announcement? Or do you read the forums for more than that and then just assume it’s all negative talk?
There is a lot of negativity here, but it does exist in game as well FYI… anyways I do agree to the point that trying it out is the best way for the OP to find out if they like it or not.
People really think that Staff is the hardest weapon to use as an Ele? I must just be really weird then cause I do better with my Staff Ele than any other class+weapon combo in the game…
1v1 with staff is hard.
Oh! PvP it’s the hardest weapon to use, that I guess I can believe… I only do PvE though lol
If you’re someone who in real life believes that only those who work hard should be rewarded, is that a view you will transpose onto a game and vice versa?
If you believe that everyone deserves an equal chance and should be supported in order to reach their potential, do you apply that to both online and offline activities?
Everyone deserves an equal chance to earn their keep… if people don’t want to earn something they shouldn’t have it.
So, releasing new content that requires players to attain certain items, to play newer content… would be like saying you have to get a college degree to earn a decent income and live a good life.
Except I have no college degree (and thus no debt) and am making decent money so I’ve still earned a fairly good life. So why can I not put time into the game to earn access to newer content without having to get this stupid ascended gear? Because people like you love to label the world black and white – and developers accept those common views rather than think realistically and NOT lock future content away from those who don’t want to gear grind.
Hardcore players are grinding for gear now yes…
Casuals are playing the same game (with some of the same bugs unfortunately) and/or leaving because of the gear grind that’s certain to exclude them from content unless they become another cog in the machine themselves.
I would venture to guess that it doesn’t count individual stacks, since you can get multiple stacks from the same source.
Then again can get multiple boons from the same source as well so perhaps you can, have to find someone who has tested it (or do the testing yourself).
Well it costs 3 silver and 50 copper the second time you do it at level 80… so seems that is the cap whether it be level based or not.
Best place I’ve found to get groups for Fractals is overflow…
There are a few healing abilities that don’t scale at all with anything. For example, the warrior’s adrenaline-based regen (from traits) does not scale with anything. If you look up each skill/trait on the GW2 wiki, it should tell you how much/whether it scales with healing power.
Good to know… wonder when that information will also be in a list on the healing power page – since that’d be the best place for it all to be summed up as far as I can tell.
Are you click and dragging it to the pane, because last I tried you could double click and it would auto-stack it with like items. Perhaps I’m mistaken but I coulda sworn I double clicked a locked black lion chest and it added it to my stack already in the bank…
I’m confused by what you’re asking… If you want to get/craft bags that sort items you get as you get them – some exist already.
And I was certain that like items already stacked in your inventory when you pick them up.
If you’re tired of seeing gaps between your stuff when you look at your inventory after going to a vendor, you could click the cog wheel in the top right corner of your inventory screen and choose to ‘compact’ your list so the spaces are all at the bottom.
If none of that helps can you please elaborate what it is you’re suggesting?
People really think that Staff is the hardest weapon to use as an Ele? I must just be really weird then cause I do better with my Staff Ele than any other class+weapon combo in the game…
another generic term that came to mind when you posted ETA was ToD… though most people ask “When will ____ spawn” nowadays, I still prefer to ask for the last time of death << >>
The friendslist notification isn’t something I’m against… and other threads asking for there to be some way a guild can track activity of it’s members makes sense for hardcore folks.
If you want to notify people that someone has joined a guild, then is it truly that hard for the person who sent the invite to introduce them (if they feel comfortable) and thus avoid all this hassle? It would likely make newcomers feel more at home than the thought they’re only being welcomed because everyone got a notification anyways…
I suggest to do a hardcore mode at player creation which would put the player in a hardcore server where the new hardcore rules and higher stats enemies would appear
Servers are account bound by nature for the WvW content, and I doubt they’d make a server that wasn’t intended to participate in WvW since that’s a third of the game they’re trying to market.
So if you’re asking for hardcore servers it’d prolly be an account move you’d have to make not a character creation selection choice. That being said I am appreciative that for once someone isn’t asking for PvP in PvE content on current servers… thanks =)
Edit – also should this hardcore server(s) have access to rarer drops – it would likely crash the market value of things as is… so I would think they would have to code a seperate hardcore TP as well.

But I have never heard of ‘greeting’ is a waste of time. My response would be, ‘ok then leave the guild’. Like I said before the guilds are not required in this game at all. You dont need parties other than for dungeons. So if it is a huge bother for those few people that do not like to communicate in a social game… then they might want to look for another game that might suit their needs.
Greetings are a waste of time though… after this post will you ever remember me again? I’m in a guild, I try to be friendly – but when this game is over you think I’m going to go hang out with them? Not likely…
Being friendly isn’t a problem – I would hate for people to have to stop what they’re doing just cause I signed on and it’s polite to say hi. We’re here to enjoy the game so if you notice I’m here cool if not that’s alright too.
Furthermore, recommending people just go play another game is an odd choice. Where else can I go play a game that has new content consistently provided to me at no additional charge? What other game can I play where I can run through a zone ad get a different experience each time because there’s different people doing events and they can either succeed or fail differently? This is one of the few games that people can truly enjoy and just because they don’t want to waste people’s time they need to play another game? Moronic…
It would give the game greater appeal if they put more from this idea into the game…
But I have to say I would like bugs to get fixed, some of them old as the beta weekend events. It’s a great suggestion just doubt Anet’ll ever get around to it.
I’d have her go glass cannon staff or scepter / focus (if she has absolutely no interest in getting up close). Staff has overall better AoE options. You, I’d recommend going PVT D/D w/ some cantrips, or maybe a D/D auramancer / protection build. Fly all over the place, holding aggro. Have her spam the area w/ dmg while you dance around in it, tossing your own down. If they go for her use your knockdowns and / or shocking aura (if you take powerful auras) to maintain crowd control. She’ll be able to add to the CC w/ earth and water snares so that you will not take a ton of damage if you keep moving.
You’ll have a great time. It will be a delightful combo. For elites two elementals will be nice and not interrupt your flow.
I’m actually quite jealous. I bet it will be a beautiful thing to watch.
Edit: used the word “delightful” too many times.
^-^;; Hope that works out for them… with my Glass Cannon staff build warriors and guardians can’t keep the hate. Would love to run some PvE with a D/D and see if they can keep me from having to run all over the map lolz
Crazy… last time I ran TA with 2 guildies and 2 pick-ups, I ran MF AND still drew all the aggro.
Stats only help you so much, if you can’t maximize your skills effectively and mitigate damage properly you’re doomed to fail no matter what gear you have. Assuming MF gear brings the party down is pathetic, learn your profession better if you’re failing at dungeons because that’s what will help you get ahead.
First person view locks the camera height… I’d honestly prefer (when talking about screenshots) that ctrl+shift+h would toggle off UI, then toggle off character, then toggle all on…
Would make for the best screenshots in the game.
Well depends a lil on how you two want to play… if you make a ranged build then just do what you feel comfortable with since dodging or just staying out of range works best.
If you want to go melee while she a more supportish build, make sure you invest in power and precision gear because if you can’t outdamage her then you’ll chase the mob chasing her and get no where fast.
If she wants to glass cannon it with the staff (like meself) then it might be wise to look into a build that allows you to help control the field more…
Really dunno what else to add at this point, you kinda need to figure out what path you two wanna walk down before I can help any further.
I dislike Logan for a reason different than the rest, in the __ dungeon he once again abandons his friend over what he feels was a slight against him…
He needs to put on his big boy pants and stop feeling like the world is out to get him. If he’s going to stick by his decision then do so and stop letting it get to you… People will always dislike you for a choice you make as long as you’re confident you made the right one then who cares what they think.
No one besides Logan has that problem and just shows how much of a kitten he really is…
1. 0 – I only do PvE
2. 0 – I have 2 currently
3. 1
4. 1
5. 0
6. ? In game or you talking about buying gems… in game I’ve got some gold yes
7. 0
8. 1
9. 1
10. 0 – for now, Texas is really gearing up for seccession now so I need to move to make sure this stays true
11. 0

As for the real reason I dislike ascended gear is from what I understand in order to play new content you have to get this gear. I’m up for a challenge and wouldn’t mind going through the new content at a ‘disadvantage’ because I only have exotics…
But until that content is opened up for those of us who don’t give a kitten about gear progression I won’t be playing it.
Karma gain is already excessive… it took me roughly 9 days from headstart to get my cultural tier 3 weapon, and since my Ele uses a staff the other 200k I have earned since then is just sitting there.
And on the character I started 4 days ago (now level 16) I already have 20k thanks to daily’s and such. By the time I can even equip 3 culturals I’ll have purchased them…
I’m very happy with my Ele, thought at the beginning it would be better to be locked out of attunement swap while in battle and have a weapon swap – but after learning how to stance dance I realize the choice they made from the get go was the best.
Now, if they’d enable us to swap waepons efficiently outside of combat I wouldn’t complain – but then again I would also like to run 2 templates of traits that I can swap out in PvE even if doing so without a trainer cost me 5 silver instead of the 3.5 charge currently…
So I don’t hope for much.
lol ok so this is the problem.
so little imagination on how to implement open world pvp.
you are all assuming it would put people into PvE areas.
sigh, kids today have no original thoughts.
Doubling the instances for a world just to incorporate open world PvP would likely leave few people playing on each server… were this ever implemented your idea would be horrible and a dedicated server in each region where PvE instances allowed PvP would be better.
If I have to play on a server where I contantly have to choose to enter the normal PvE rather than just play the game as it is now, I would be more likely to quit.
I can confirm that black lion chests grant fine transmutation stones for level 80 gear, whilst content completion grants basic transmutation stones for anything under level 80.
I just got 4 basic from completing Queensdale with my 3rd character. If what you want is fine the only free way I know of to get them is black lion chests.
Far as I can tell . . . it’s on a cycling timer. I’ve never sat and timed it (I don’t have that kind of time) but I’m fairly sure. The three different trigger events are, I think, randomized so that one of them is the trigger leading into the next two legs of it.
Even if that timer is 6 hours with a 2 hour window for the pre-event and I just barely missed it due to needing sleep, it’s horrible that such a good fight (when all the dragon champions are forever lagging like hell) is set at such a high timer. Really hope that if it’s timed Anet rethinks the timing on it a bit so it can be fun.
. . . you’re lagging and culling on the dragon champions too? So it’s not just me then. Awesome, no upgrade for me!
I think the timer is so long because they’re supposed to be somewhat special to do. It’s supposed to be the “wow that was cool” kind of thing the first time you encounter it.
I’ve got no problem with this, I came from a game where mobs could respawn between 17 and 32 hours after last ToD…
But why make the dragon champions farmable when they’re not even near as much fun as this one we don’t get to do but once a week if we’re lucky? I think Anet needs to balance it out a bit.
This reminds me, I wonder how often the Fire Elemental is up. I need to go take care of that thing.
Fire Elemental is actually triggered, though I dunno how often the trigger quest pops. If you go to the entrance of the reactor (I dunno if there’s more than one) an asura with a cleaning golem will be waiting for an escort. Help them through the mess, golem explodes into elemental – viola.
2) Huh? It’s been around 378 karma and 1s 73c per event now for a while in Orr. Not sure where you got 17k from.
Most likely got mixed up with xp.
Yeah I did swap those two lol, my bad. Show you how much I do in Orr though…

You guys have thought out what you want very well, but unless it’s implemented in a way that rivals Orr/Dungeon farming – I’m just not seeing it being good enough to entice people to go back.
That’s basically what my entire post was about; providing rewards that rival Orr on a daily basis.
2k Karma and 1 gold for doing an event rivals Orr? I must really not be missing a whole lot by avoiding that place then lol…
If it is a decent alternative, then I have to ask how often they can be done a day. Cause even if you put a dozen of those in the lower areas once they’re complete why would people stick around? If I was all about getting the best accomplished each day I would do them all and return to farming. Not that we want to drag people away from Orr if that’s what they like, but what about that would make people want to stay and do DE they don’t want to do now?
Well, in my suggestion, I suggested 4 daily tasks for each area:
- Re-do a set number of Hearts
- Complete a set number of different events in that area
- Complete a Bounty (Vet or Champ difficulty)
- Complete an Exploration task (JP, Vista, PoI ect)
The 2k and 1g was just an example. Anet has a lot more data on Currency Acquisition, so they’d be able to set a more competitive rate.
I think the biggest reason a reward system won’t work in these zones is because people would be downscaled to do these events – making it possible for low level characters to get these rewards since they’re based on completion not level.
A single DE in Orr nets you 17k karma for completion last I did one… and the only way to get coin was pretty much drop based. Can you imagine having that kind of karma rewarded to you when you’re level 25 in Kessex?
I truly can appreciate the amount of thought you all have put into this, but rewards just don’t seem (to me) to be an effective solution. I’ll stop posting so you can keep theory crafting, hopefully there is a way that low level zones can be made more fun again.
Thanks Candlelight, next time I’ve got hours to spend I’ll do a bunch of DE around the Heartwoods and the monastery as well… perhaps getting all those locations to peak chain is what triggers this event.
If anyone is on Jade Quarry and is interested in helping me try to get every portal in the swamp down at the same time send me a message and we’ll give that a go.
I wouldn’t mind playing with the hud off, but there’s so much communication in my guild I would miss.
I would like to see the ability to turn off aspects of the hud, like my skillbar. I know my skills now and prolly play too much as I know instinctually when CD is over. And having that lame reminder of my personal story progression would be nice to get rid of…
but that opens a whole new can of worms for customizing the UI that Anet pretty much doesn’t want us to do anyways.

would love to know too.
I always thought the Beeltetun escort event was part of it somehow and the corrupted Oakheart event.
You sound like you have a better idea how it all fits together. It was so long ago for me that it is all a bit hazy.
Well I didn’t stay close to the escort path the entire time, however I can say that over the course of 8 hours I did that twice too.
Then I hope the day you come back is only after they have dedicated servers for that kitten…
No reason to ruin the game for everyone because some people prefer to be kittenholes.
So, last time I saw Shadow Behemoth was during headstart access. Decided he was one of the funnest fights in this game for me – so I went back to Queensdale with my character and did stuff…
I did stuff for 8 hours.
I destroyed at least 100 portals (not to include anything anyone else did at the time), was there for the death of that Harpy warrior you spawn with the necromancy book at least a dozen times throughout, helped all the level 15 tortured souls find their peace (as the level 14 ones only cowered for me and weren’t interactable)…
I went to the ‘help the Ettins’ renown heart since I know that portals to the underworld for the pre-event pop up there and while 2 other people were there every centaur was dead…
If it’s on a timer – I think that 8 hours is quite a bit too long as the Dragon Champions don’t seem to be over 5 hours… and if it’s a trigger the only thing I can say I didn’t do was have every portal down at the same time, or do events at whatever other two places the portals spawn during the pre-event.
Does anyone have any idea what the deal is with this event?
to be honest I’m not sure rewards for going back would fix anything at all.
If that was the case, people would be going back to previous areas now. As it is, they don’t because it’s not efficient in terms of making money / raising Karma / farming Rares (which I agree with you. I’d rather play the game for fun than like a spreadsheet).
Say, for example, you get 2,000 Karma and 1 Gold for a task that is roughly the same length as an Orr event farm, and each area has 4 tasks. Not only would that be more Karma, but it’d also be more Coin. Throw in guaranteed fine crafting mats, and the ability to lower your traveling costs (maybe even open up new merchants for unique armour / weapon / recipes), and that would provide the incentive to take a break from farming the same place over and over.
It also gives people somewhere to keep earning when DR kicks in and also something to do alongside their Daily Achievement.
You guys have thought out what you want very well, but unless it’s implemented in a way that rivals Orr/Dungeon farming – I’m just not seeing it being good enough to entice people to go back.
The mentality of ‘must have the best’ is why ascended gear exists now, the people that like it will just stay in Orr unless the system is made good enough for them to go to low level zones…
And the ones that don’t care about all that are currently playing in low level zones to avoid having to deal with players to weak to play this game without the best gear out there.
The only way to draw people back in is to make them fun, and giving me tasks to lower waypoint costs doesn’t fall into that category. I don’t care how much it costs to travel – if I can have fun I’ll be there.
I found an unmarked way point between Divinity’s Reach and the location of the starting zone today.
http://i50.tinypic.com/34nm82w.jpg
So unless it’s being reported as a bug so it can be fixed it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it was just another portion of miscoding…
“Improves all healing performed by the character, including healing from the regeneration boon and rejuvenation. Healing power does not affect the revival process.”
Unless your passive healing pertains to the revival process then yes it affects the passive as well… source: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_power
Does not mention any capping so if it exists it’s not discovered yet.
I enjoy going back to lower level content… though I have to say only in the zones that ever felt fun. I could, with none of my characters, ever enjoy the Brisban Wildlands so I don’t go back there. But I can’t tell you how often I find myself wandering low level zones when people think the game is already only about Orr/Dungeon farming or the PvP content now. For me it’s not about needing rewards or anything of the sort… there’s just content I enjoy that I go back to – and content I don’t enjoy and won’t.
For example, I have 2 level 80 characters, one of them hasn’t taken the first step onto Orr because the only thing decent about that place is farming. I would much rather play a game where everything is fun – and to be honest I’m not sure rewards for going back would fix anything at all.
Grandmaster – Pyromancer’s Puissance – change to “Add quickness and 2 might for 2 seconds when you cast a weapon spell while attuned to fire”
Taking an already great trait and making it OP imo…
I never got into WoW…
But I played FFXIV when it first came out – the whole rebirth it’s going through now hasn’t done jack to fix any of the problems. So if you wanna reset your characters feel free, no reason to completely disrupt the game that other people are enjoying perfectly fine.
Reboots are for games that failed once, if it failed once how is it not going to fail again. You obviously just need to move onto another game if you think this one needs a rebirth. And don’t suggest that they just do what the customers want because the customers can’t agree – and they never will.
Would be nice to tell where my folks are at when we get distracted by different shinies…
As far as the turning it off, personally either not representing or swapping to afk in the contacts panel seems to be like a good enough trigger system. Don’t really think that we need to ask for extra buttons coded in when these things can already do the job.
Well if your main goal is simply a crit build, you might want to look into the Penetrating armor set, it gives boosts to both Precision and Crit damage…
Though to be honest at a glance it looks more like you’re building a tank character than a cannon of any kind. So I really dunno what to suggest…
Guild Town clothing sounds awesome…
The guild backpack is nice, but for some of us clipping isn’t as big an issue as it is for others – and capes are just kittening awesome.
Because everyone that doesn’t see this as a problem is insistent that WvW is PvE.
Those that understand WvW is simple PvP with extra stuff thrown in, are in agreeance (for the most part) that this is rather silly and not against changing it.
Personally, I hope Anet sees this as a goof up and are just waiting for the month to end, since in previous months people have earned a quarter of the monthly (ie certain amount of XP before dying) and had it taken away because they decided to change it up. It would really be nice that Anet lets people who have completed the monthly stay completed for this month but change it from here on out…
since WvW just isn’t PvE.
I know you said you want to throw away your gold, but honestly you get decent enough drops for the little bit of time you spend at that level. Unless you really want to take your time and find a way to play without leveling up the gear you get will not be a wise investment.
That being said, I went with the strong or potent gear until I could start equipping rampager’s gear. (wiki reference for the gear titles = http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rampager%27s#Single_attribute )
It truly all depends on your play style though, maybe if you posted more about what weapon you use and traits you have you could get better assistance.
still see the abbreviation WTB sometimes, and if the TP (another that might should be included) goes down again then it and WTS might escape some people’s knowledge. Took me a few days to come to the realization tbh…
