You can double click a players name to whisper them…

Not that you should have to use a work-around if it is bugged, just thought I’d share.

I enjoy the dialog, though I still don’t get why there is a limit of two characters shown on the screen at one time. If 4 of us are standing in a room having a conversation fading people out and in breaks the immersion… would it really be so difficult to have four people in one cinematic?

The background art is nice, but I’d give up seeing it constantly for better immersion…

By asking for a refund I at least gave them a metric they will maybe use someday

That much I can understand…

There is no purpose for this thread though. It’s not going to solve anything – won’t persuade people to ask for refunds themselves… All we have now is another place for people to troll each other over differing opinions.

I’m ready for a mod to close this thread.

Player Poll: Gen. overview after 3 months?

1. When did you begin playing? (post bw’s)
Headstart access, was online the first 11 hours straight then napped for 6 and got back on – I had vacation time.

2. how many hours total do you have? (/age)
451 hours so far across all character, 283 on my main.

3. What’s your most gold banked so far?
I put 10 gold in for that portion of the achievement, but then took it back out to spend it.

4. Do you have a max level character (s)? (number if more than one)
Yes, 2 level 80’s so far.

5. List 1-3 areas / zones / events / tp; where you spend most of your time for income.
Sparkfly Fen, either at the Hylek Holy Grounds or the DE by the Meta event.

6. Do you mainly use MF or not?
I use my MF set when soloing but put my Exotics on for dungeon runs or helping friends.

7. Have you ever got an exotic weapon from a mob? If so, how many and total?
Not a single one lol. Then again I don’t farm Orr since I dislike the zone.

8. Have you ever got an exotic weapon from a chest? If so, how many and total?
Nope, gotten a few rares from chests but that’s all.

9. What’s the most number of rare weapons you have looted in one day or 8hrs time?
It’s been quite some time but I got about 7 rares in an 8 hour time period once, again though I don’t do Orr.

10. How many rare or exotic weapons do you “expect” to loot in one hour of time?
0 exotics, maybe a rare… but only when farming I never expect them outside of that.

11. How many lodestones have you looted total so far? (all types)
Wouldn’t even know wot one is, is there only a certain way to get them? lol…

12. Do you craft? If so, do you have a 400 crafter? if so, how many?
No crafting here, I figure when I get burned out from the game I can sit down and try to learn it.

13. Do you sell your looted crafting mats? (specify optional)
I did on my first/main character… when I took my thief to 80 I deposited the collectibles for when I do start crafting. Never keep trophies though as they take up too much space and can easily get again later.

14. Do you feel your return, (in terms of items, completion, income, etc) for your time, has been worth it?
I have fun, when it stops being fun I log off for a while. Dunno what kind of ‘return’ I should be expecting other than that…

15. In ONE word, what needs improved most; from your perspective?
Kitten… I can’t decide so flip a coin – heads is bugs and tails is balance. Both are equally important to fix in my eyes.

The reason I gave that analogy was to make clear that if you care for something, anything really, people shouldn’t disregard your outrage with QQ.

Btw I don’t think people who made that bill see it as infringement, actually they designed it against infringement, or at least that is what they wanted to make us believe they created it for.

I admit that analogy wasn’t the best I could have made, but the other one that came to mind seemed even more unjust to make.

Perhaps the reason you’re finding it hard to justify your position then is because – as aforementioned – you’re demanding to receive something for nothing. I don’t want to come across as insulting you personally, but I just can’t feel anything for someone who rushes into an investment and regrets it later.

I’d suggest to you that waiting a year after new games release is the way you should buy them. If things so small upset you so greatly then at least waiting that window will allow you to see the true direction a game will take before purchasing.

Normally, I don’t respond to these types of posts but I felt the need. I understand the desire to solo a lot, especially since I like to read and not rush but it is an MMO, so sometimes it makes sense for grouping to be involved. Frankly, I wish there were a lot more options for grouping, since there is so much solo content to be had. I like to mix it up some.

I can whole-heartedly agree to this… but when I go out in the game world I like to solo things. It’s fun to take down challenging veterans and if I don’t screw up – champions on my own. I don’t get to do this much though – there’s always too many people wandering around the zones looking for events to level up on.

The least they can do is give me something that I can truly solo, something no one can interfere on that can give me a sense of accomplishment. I’m not asking for them to make the quests easier per se – just needs to find a better sense of balance because as it is only certain professions can enjoy the content I seek.

I wonder, would you reply QQ to all the outrage there was towards SOPA and PIPA ?

When people care for something they should show their outrage when it is threatened to be modified in such a horrid way it’s not recognizable anymore.

Otherwise you get a bunch of jaded cats who refer to two letters on their board

There is a difference FYI – SOPA and PIPA were created to infringe upon the rights of the people/businesses…

You played a game for months, then were rewarded with your dislike over their design by not being charged for the time you spent enjoying it.

For someone who speaks about things based on principals – you sure don’t seem to grasp much at all.

Apparently Guardians can solo their personal story until the end dungeon…

All I know is that taking my Elementalist down the Vigil path turned out to be quite a poor decision. I was so focused on story I didn’t stop to think that they would make it nigh impossible for scholars to do that quest line.

Would love to see the story get balanced so all professions can solo their story – kinda rediculous that I’ll have to get help to progress without annoying amounts of armor repair costs.

What the Ele Community Agrees On

in Elementalist

Posted by: Bvhjdbvkjf.1987

Bvhjdbvkjf.1987

I disagree with most of these points.

1. For the most part, yes, that’s true. However, I’ve seen some Ele’s that stay in Fire and just burn things and that’s all they do and it works. If they get into a dangerous situation, they either run or die, but isn’t that always the case?

2.Disagree completely. I feel no need to spec into Arcana at all; not for cooldown reduction, not for shiny boons, not for dodge finishers.

3.Pretty much agree.

4. Disagree; We have plenty of builds, and they all work; some just can’t handle being “different”.

5.Again, Disagree. Specced in any direction an Ele will work; they’re fluid and versatile, one of (if not the most) the most versatile classes in the game.

6.Disagree. Best in what way? Provide some proof or reasoning, otherwise, all you could be meaning is that D/D is the best build for close-combat and movement, which is true.

7.Agree… Until you meet those Attunement-specific Ele’s (and believe me, they’re out there)

8.Um… Not sure. I don’t play Scepter often, so this don’t affect me very much.

9.I agree partially with this, except, you CAN drop the weapon, and it always spawns an extra for any friends that might need/want to use it. So it has its uses.

10.Agree.

1. You can kill things on other classes just by autoattacking too. Does that mean it was effective?

2. You can pretty much get away with anything in pve. In pvp you’re facing some pretty bad opponents if you don’t need the lower cooldowns on swapping.

4. Very few builds that work. Needs more variety

5. Pve? You can do 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 and still get by. That doesn’t mean it’s good.

6. Staff got nerfed hard. D/D remains the best spec. focus and scepter are “okay” but still need a lot of improvement.

7. Haha, again. I’ll bet there’s “auto-attack only guardians” too.

9. Conjure weapons are worthless because you give up too much utility in order to use them for really sub-par results. Now if say they had really awesome dps, or really awesome defense in the case of the shield, for a short amount of time. Then they might be worth it. As of now though, they’re just fluff to goof around with.

Love how people act as though sPvP is the only portion of this game that the devs should focus on. Remember when Whirlpool got nerfed – it was to balance PvP and it unbalanced PvE as a result.

Would really love for some people to open their eyes to the fact that PvP isn’t the only way to play this game and balancing a game only around PvP isn’t balancing the game at all.

The builds that work well in PvE can work in PvP – maybe not against people who have played PvP for months on end, but if someone’s better than you they just are. Builds are only a small factor and perhaps the only reason you can’t get staff or s/f to work in PvP is because you need to get better at specs built for them?

Anyways if this is going to become just another PvP rant topic I’m out – wish people weren’t so narrow-minded on the aspects of this game.

Glyph of Renewal is a pretty awesome support skill, considering there are almost no res skills in the game.

I lol’d at this. Certainly has potential to be great but last time I tried it (admittedly several patches have passed) half of it didn’t work. And not even complaining about the ‘only affects downed players’ portion – never seen anyone rez to full health in water.

Does the tooltip still say it revives allies? Because I’ve asked (and asked) that they change it to say ‘rallies’ being as that’s all it ever truly does.

Always feel like I’m some abnormal freak when people say Staff Ele is underpowered and I have no troubles whatsoever.

Here is the secret of why the staff ele is consider UP, it is a very difficult secret to keep because not everyone can do it. its called Eruption, it is the single most damaging move in your arsenal of skills(hard to hit with i know) you just have to get the timing down, not everyone can hit people with this, that is why there is a move called shockwave and frozen ground or if melee just pop it where you are standing. i tested it, on a decently clad warrior if he doesn’t remove the bleed it does about 33% of his total health(i was condition focused soo). but keep it a secret or don’t. that is why staff eles are considered UP, not many can time it right or hit with eruption forget about the blast effect if you need to. even without focusing on condition damage at all it will do a grand total of 3k damage with very little or no focus upon condition damage

Nice tip, will have to keep it in mind as I found the Ice Spike to do the most power-based damage. I spec for both Power and Condition though so since the timing for both are quite similar (Eruption being a bit longer cast time) I think you just made my build even more deadly lol

Sorry, I don’t do D/D and mayhaps I’m shooting myself in the foot (as aforementioned) but I’m quite happy using the staff and being a Glass Cannon. So if they were to nerf D/D it wouldn’t affect me at all.

I know that your list is meant to compile a general consensus… which is the only reason I’m replying here. You have good points but some I just disagree with and if we truly want to see a general consensus all interested parties should reply in order to clearly reflect whether you’ve done a good job or missed the mark on any. That said…

1. I agree.
2. Disagree – It’s got the weakest traits of the lot imo though I understand the ‘mandatory’ feeling behind it.
3. Couldn’t agree more.
4. I’ve not even unlocked the weapon skills for D/D or S/F and I’m 80 and loving it, so unless this is sPvP specific I disagree again.
5. Yeah no… if someone wants to see my build I can link the thread where I asked for feedback. No one said it sucked then – just that it was glassy as hell. I kill stuff plenty fast.
6. See my reply to #4.
7. Room for improvement as there always will be – but can’t say I stand in agreance with this either.
8. Never noticed the Nerf since I don’t use the skill so I’m N/A on this one.
9. Understand the point but never used conjures in my build as they’re too weak imo.
10. Can understand the desire for more options, but love the glyph so unless something better is introduced I’ll prolly stick with it.

and as for the 11. Worst problem facing the Ele profession at the moment. Really wish Anet was doing a better job on this.

( my guild ui is not bugged )

I can second this, there’s a player in my guild which I’ve never seen represent and whose server choice and/or last login location never shows up.

Doesn’t bother me or anything, just wanted to help people figure out what’s going on if I can.

Why do I die so fast?

Bvhjdbvkjf.1987

All super helpful answers! I’m scared to change my key bindings, but I’ll give it a shot if I still can’t effectively dodge after trying the above techniques.

Is there a good heuristic to know what my stats should be for a given level? Should I just make sure my gear lvl requirement is near my level? Some pieces are still from character creation. Should I use my Karma to buy gear, or save for later?

Depends on how fast you level as to how fast you should upgrade your gear. I got used to upgrading based on drops since I usually got nice gear I could use by the time I ever felt held back by what I was wearing… but you shouldn’t be afraid to spend Karma.

Let me put it this way – if there was a way to do so in game I would gladly give you karma for free, since we get so much of it. Saving just makes things harder on you now since you won’t need it 2+ months after you’re 80. (The only exception is if you craft a lot)

Put an end to Pve servers

in Suggestions

Posted by: Bvhjdbvkjf.1987

Bvhjdbvkjf.1987

Your suggestion would have a number of negative side affects… ie the first person to tell their guild “Meta Event has started here” would then fill up that instance and other people who want to get it done but didn’t make it in time are thrown onto other instances where the Meta event isn’t going on. With the way it currently is there’s at least a chance to participate – I wouldn’t like being blocked out of many future events because I tried to load into the zone 3 characters to late.

Truth be told it wouldn’t even have to be a Meta event – if all the servers had access to the same instances and Orr farming becomes the thing to do again (because people won’t NEED ascended gear forever you know) how likely would I be able to play with my friends? Most all those instances would be full again and ever increasing overflow issues reoccur.

The best solution to this problem simply is to find a server that works for you – once everyone does that things will balance out and worlds that aren’t being utilized will be merged. Rather than complain through a flawed suggestion just do a transfer while they’re still free…

@Bvh – That’s a pretty aggressive build. Does Air XI actually help you out that often? I mean, once every 90 seconds sounds like “It will save your behind once, but when the champ targets you 10 seconds later you’re toast.” Haven’t used it personally, so I can’t really judge. If you find that it’s only there because you have an extra water slot, maybe try Air I, VI, or XII instead?

@Zaerp – My elementalist build is staff-optimized and support oriented, and staff is pretty much all AoE. I can whip up my build if you’d like, but I don’t think it would be a play style you would enjoy. D/D like Bvh is melee oriented but so much fun, and I haven’t touched a Scepter in like 69 levels (and I’m level 80), so I can’t comment well there. And yeah, there are lots of complainers in the profession forums. But there are also some very good posts.

Umm… honestly don’t know. I think the most honest answer I can give you, is that I don’t recall the last time a mob disabled me (knockdown etc) aside from in Orr when those Risen pull me. Having no defense, it was very nice to stand up with a stunned enemy so I could re-create the gap and kill the jerk.

Outside Orr though I don’t think it’s even been neccessary for me since I either kill too fast or control the mob too well. I prefer things not getting close to me as even before this game my motto was “Healers are for people who get hit” lol. Evasion be it die roll or in this game – skill based, has always been my focus.

Edit – I have given Bolt to the heart consideration, but I’m not a huge aura user so hadn’t considered Air I. And XII was one I considered until I ended up focusing more on damage for most mobs vs control

I have a feeling it is my ability to evade/dodge. This active playstyle is why I love this game over other MMOs, but I feel it is also my weakness because I am used to the virtual rolling of dice for every attack.

Since I only get about two back to back dodges before my endurance is drained, how do I decide when to do it? Is there a way to tell a basic attack from a powerful one? Is it something I should be doing constantly?

Don’t have access to the game right now, but I can maybe try making a video or grouping with someone later.

If you’ve got a guild they might be able to help you learn – but each mob has a few attacks. If you try to dodge all of them you will run out of endurance fast… most of the harder hitting attacks will have a small animation during the swing that look like umm… energy being drawn in I suppose? It’ll be an off white color and you’ll have to just experience different mobs to see which ones do their big attacks with what animations.

I can tell you one thing though – bandits when they start spinning in circles it’s best to just step back and wait for it to end if you don’t have a way to knock them down/back or stun them. It is definitely a stronger attack and goes for 2-3 seconds.

Why do I die so fast?

I have only been playing for less than a month, and I have spent most of my time trying the different races and professions. Soon as my characters get into the upper teens, I find myself dying constantly. Even as a guardian with a shield, I am dropping as fast as my characters in light armor.

I generally use the weapons and armor granted from quests or dropped from monsters. I carefully choose my skills and traits, yet still my health goes down faster than my enemy. Do I need to stack vitality while leveling? Or maybe I just don’t fully understand the dodge mechanic? I try to jump to the side when I see something big coming.

My friend I play with is having the same problem, so I was wondering if any other people had this problem when they were first learning the game and what they did to overcome it? Thanks!

Hard to provide constructive criticism without seeing whats going on or having a higher level of detail… any way you can share a video of said difficulties?

If not I can pop onto the game and see what’s going on firsthand should we be on the same server (I’m on Jade Quarry). You might be doing the dodge right – don’t want to blame it on skill if something else is to blame though.

DEKeyz – Lol not a problem, I was super excited about pistol/dagger back before BWE1 and kept it up until I hit level 42, then just noticed the shortbow was better for AoE and DE and keep pistol/dagger on weapon swap for 1v1 and champions where condition stacking can be more useful.

Last suggestion about choosing the class

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Bvhjdbvkjf.1987

Bvhjdbvkjf.1987

1) Wich is the profession(s) you’d like to play with in a dungeon?
I roll an Ele, I’m best with it and don’t ever want to be the reason why we constantly wipe. At least with my Ele I know I did my share.

2) Wich profession(s) you think is/are easier to play in PvE and why?
Depends on your style… if you just want to AoE spam DE for levels then Ele and Thief are likely best. If you want a class to tank mobs then Guardian is easier to stay alive with.

3) Wich profession(s) is/are more rewarding for the skill you show with them?
Not sure I understand the question…

4) Wich profession(s) is/are the most difficult to play?
Personally Mesmer, I couldn’t keep my character because as far as I leveled (18) I was still taking 2-3x as long to fight because it just didn’t do damage. Then again I loved melee which just wasn’t rewarding at all apparently so…

5) Wich is the profession(s) that,in your opinion, shine over the other in PvP?
I don’t do PvP (or WvW)

6) Wich profession(s) can draw the aggro on itself/theirselves the best?
Ele, at least in my experience I’ve had mobs chase me down even with warriors and guardians hitting it. Wasn’t my entire leveling experience but once I hit 60+ and started getting gear to compliment my specs I couldn’t get left alone.

7) Wich profession(s) has/have the highest dps capability?
Depends on how you’re willing to play. Anything can be made into a Glass Cannon in this game (aside guardian I would say) so whichever you’re able to learn and maximize the skill set for.

8!) Do you think people should play the profession based on how them like the design (without even playing the game) or based on their ingame preferences?
I chose all my professions of interest before the pre-purchase edition was announced and have had to redo my plans from such time several times over due to rebuilds and balancing. Ele has been my main since March – however I really wanted to Melee Mesmer and had to drop it, so just depends on if you enjoy it after trying it out.

I love my elementalist, but the popular dungeon builds are Dagger/Dagger, which is melee, and Staff, which is known to give unimpressive single-target damage. Plus an elementalist typically has paper-thin passive defense, which means more active defense (read: kiting and casting).

Maybe try a Ranger or a Thief? I haven’t played a ranger, but its pet makes it viable for PvE. I use pistol/pistol on my thief for hairy situations and don’t have problems keeping distance between me and mobs when it’s only me, but I’ve read that pistol/dagger is also viable.

Just a note, my 80 thief is fun rolling pistol/dagger – but pistol lacks punch and relies on condition damage. If he wants to roll a ranged thief I’d personally recommend shortbow – does 2x more power related damage per hit and can chain up to 3 enemies… plus the cluster bomb spikes well and skill 5 helps escape enemies when endurance is down.

Just my 2 cents…

I enjoy my Elementalist, and as far as ranged power goes (with the right spec+gear) I find myself doing quite a deal of damage. Not sure if you’ve done the TA dungeon but killing those explode-when-you-walk-on-me things with one shot of the auto-attack makes life a good bit easier. At least most the other people I seem to roll the dungeon with have to use multiple attacks to do the same thing…

But I try to stay balanced between raw power and condition damage (Rampager’s gear) because condition damage is so useful. It might cap, and structures and stuff don’t take burning damage – but it’s only when fighting vets and higher that I appreciate the fact the health bars just drop. If you’re going to go power+vit or whatever hope you have fun, I don’t see the need to drop condition damage personally though.

Personally I feel it comes down to this: If one gets outplayed, that’s fine. You both had access to the same things, same number of trait points, same gear, so if you got beat, it’s on you. You need to improve.

That was my original point coming into this thread, complaining about the difference in stats makes no difference because you can always learn to make up for that difference through more practice and/or learning your profession better.

People really think this gear is going to sweep through one side of WvW as if one server has access to it while others don’t. The grind is not encouraged for anyone who either doesn’t want it or isn’t an elitist – problem being this game is over full of elistists.

Blocking people from playing through dungeons and such just because they don’t have superior gear… which I will again reiterate is my true only problem with this new tier. Unless Anet announces (or proves) that all new content can be enjoyed by all tiers of gamers – the fact that there’s even a trend towards the requirement of this gear to play any content is why I boycott it.

Most people like to run Beserkers stats (power, precision, crit damage – I believe)

I personally run with Rampagers (power, precision, condition damage) because crits are great and with a 62% chance of getting crits on my build I could do even more damage. But against foes with lots of toughness it will still take more hits. My enemies should constantly suffer burning (due to my spec) so I figured increasing the amount of DoT would help me whether they have more armor or vitality…

Leaving isn’t in my interest…

I just won’t play the new content that requires a grind. Plenty of game left outside that and if all the expansions seriously require the grind – well the only thing I did learn from the AMA is that they think the requirements for getting said tier is a bit much so – perhaps by the time I get bored of current content I will have the basics to get into the locked-away stuff.

Good things come to those who wait… 5 years in development and we finally have a playable game. Perhaps in another year the bugs will be worked out and a better roll-out for new content will have been established. If not I can quit later, for now this is still a great game. Haven’t felt like I wasted time trying for nothing yet…

So, last time I tried I still had a problem moving the map. I mean it can be put in the top right hand corner just fine…

but when you use auto-loot to pick up items it displays the list of items you pick up permanently above the map – even when tis in the top right hand corner.

Once I hit 80 it was more about maxing my inventory then dumping it all be it bank or forge (or w/e), but when leveling a lower level character it sure would be nice to notice if I picked up something I could use, checking my inventory after every battle when I may not even pick something up is rather silly.

Not that I have to play with the map in the top corner… just would be nice to actually be able to customize the part of the game that we’re supposed to be allowed to customize.

I’ve not tried a lot of names to check for appropriateness… but perhaps the lsd is the problem?

Tis the only possibility I can think of.

Alastar replied to the last person that replied to me quite sufficiently – the point that people try to compare people that are identical in skill as well as build is the flaw in their argument no one is the same thus a small inbalance in stats isn’t enough to concern some of us who already out perform others.

3: Ascended is required to access certain content.
Basic response here: from everything I have seen and heard, it is ONLY required past a certain point in the new dungeon (which is infinite, says the devs.) NO WHERE ELSE is the gear a requirement.
So, personally, seems like Ascended is just something extra to work for IF YOU WANT TO.
Does not effect pvp outside wvw, is not required for survival, just past a certain point in a dungeon if you REALLY want to, and the grind for ascended is nothing compared to the grind in ALL OTHER mmos (that I have played anyway.)

Responding to this is the problem I personally have with the gear. Yes currently it doesn’t affect access to content outside that one dungeon. That one dungeon has been added to this game in it’s 3rd month – and believing that is the end of such content type being released is folly. They WILL continue to release content that those of us with no wish to waste our time grinding for ‘best stats’ will not have access to.

I want to have fun playing this game, I enjoyed the FotM dungeon but don’t play it anymore simply as a boycott of this gear treadmill… if I have to get a new tier just to continue playing new content I won’t be playing anything new.

The only way that this gear can be saved whilst not further upsetting casual players is in my opinion only possible, when Anet announces that all new content will be playable without said gear – and that as with this first dungeon the only content unavailable will be the harder versions of future content to be released. Until I see something like that from an official source – you won’t see me in new content.

My loss I know – just how it is.

Edit – man I need to spellcheck first

and

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Movement_speed

However I do want to point out, that personally when getting swiftness in town from an NPC (or the plant in The Grove) that this swiftness doesn’t stack in duration and a second swiftness from a skill can be applied, can’t say that I’ve tested it against someone with only the town buff but fairly certain I was moving much quicker than the normal swiftness at that time. So if twasn’t a bug then perhaps the wiki needs additional testing and some updating.

Bvh i have to disagree i couldnt play DD ele with a 11 sec CD, i play fast very fast i need my 30 arcane for 9secs even then it feels a little slow but i dont think that would make us op in anyway what so ever. i wish i had 9 secs with out have 30 into arcane cuz i dont like most of the traits besides the boon on attune triat{i come from hardcore SC2 so apm is nothing for me }i see ppl having problems with it and thats what makes the class fun is the high lvl of skill that it had…

You go through 15 skills in 9 seconds… and think that while every other class is limited to 5 skills before they can swap back that the class won’t become OP as a whole?

Son you’re only making a good argument for keeping it the way it is… right now the punishment for you having that kind of skill set available that fast is that you have to put points into Arcane. Take away that punishment we most certainly do become OP…

IMO attunement swap as a whole does need some fixing, I just dunno what would be balanced. I would rather see the swap set permanently at 11 (think about it, they get 8 or 9 sec on weapon swap but only get to go back and forth between 10 skills… we have 20 available so we do need some kind of inhibition to not become OP)… while the bonus for investing in arcane instead becomes the whole attunement lingering thing. Invest 10 points in arcane you get 5 seconds of linger – 30 points grants 15 seconds.

The traits we have – some are great some are bad. If they want to see more builds get used they certainly need to fix the ones that everyone knows to stay away from because they’re just that bad… but I don’t think an ‘entire overhaul’ of them is necessary as many people seem to think.

For example, a fall damage reduction seems completely useless to me. The only time I fall is in combat, either I moronically dodge off a cliff or get knocked back off one by a mob. If jump puzzles are that hard do them with other characters until you get better… problem solved.

The complaint about bugs – well that’s simply universal and while my main is Ele I would like them to spend time fixing them all even if we only see a few fixes a patch for this class.

Edit – Almost forgot to say, I do think that “Fundamentally Flawed” is simply just a way to get the devs attention – they’re certainly one of the best classes available so I have to completely disagree with the OP on that matter.

Do you consider any of the elementalists weapons to be hard to use? No, of course you don’t. We’re obviously talking relative difficulty. Read the topic title.

I’ve seen people posting combo chains in this forums for the other weapons that say to use such and such skills in this order and make sure to include this arcane utility at this point to do this damage and etc…

Can’t say I’ve ever seen it for Staff. And we’re talking about relative difficulty I think that kinda makes a point in favor of the staff that memorizing a chain of skills to be effective isn’t necessary.

Seems the OP choose what he wants to do anyways, I’m just saying that staff seems easiest to me.

Well when you roll and Ele and are constantly the furthest away from the mobs, then you can possibly explain to me how one gets all the aggro without doing highest DPS…

Cause I sure don’t use an effing shield to draw aggro.

Aggro = Random, even if you don’t hit the boss you will get hit eventually. It’s funny to see people saying on this game “I hit like a truck because i got aggro”.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aggro#Gaining_and_Losing_Aggro

For your education since Aggro isn’t completely random.

When I use a staff on my Ele, stand behind warriors, guardians, and rangers (and their pets) and the mob getting hit by 3+ other sources of damage chooses to chase me even when I try to run by other player characters in an effort to dislodge them… it’s not because I hit like a truck it’s because I hit like a glass cannon. My traits and skill choices help me maintain the cannon build even when I’m in MF gear, so people who think that MF truly degrades a player’s ability to kill mobs need to try partying with me and see if they can keep aggro off me rather than just cry here that it’s not the case.

The point is that you’re not stripping aggro because of higher damage. You’re probably stripping aggro because you have low armour or low health.

Better to assume that I’m doing damage since that’s what people seem to be testing and approving putting on the wiki… I mean they tested having a shield or not so wouldn’t they have noticed the armor bit?

Have yet to hear of anyone testing or proving that low health as being something to draw aggro so if one of us is spouting nonsense is sure is more likely to be you. It’s either that or you need to get to editing the wiki to show the testing that you’ve done.

I’m done with all your nonsensical replies though, if you think that MF would drag down a fight and are willing to help test it then party up with me – otherwise all you’re proving is that you’re only willing to go as far as speculation.

Orr’s not very soloable content, and though I’m on a higher pop server I’m seeing the same problems. I decided to level an alt until the devs do something to fix this last patch and/or make older content viable for the players who just want new shinies.

How much gold do you have at 80?

Ummm… all I can say is a guess, my guild was looking to save up 100 gold and by the time I was 80 I had donated 20 gold to the cause. But I still bought all the trait books and several MF runes I knew I would want as well as waypoint costs and armor repairs so – maybe about 25g by the time my main hit 80.

I levelled a lot faster on my alt though, certainly made no more than 10-15g before I hit 80 on that one. With my main I was doing all the hearts and such, my alt was just a lot of DE farming which grants more xp for completion thus the faster level progression.

People don’t make much sense… can’t tell you how many times I’ve been trying out melee damage when someone will just use a knockback attack making me have to run down a mob again.

They also can’t decide half the time whether they want to go ahead and do something or kill the stuff between here and there – we’ll fight a mob then run past two and then they beeline for the next mob which wasn’t even in the way of the objective we’re trying to reach?

And for all the consistency I wish people would exhibit, I’m not a 100% player myself, I look for things that are fun to do (usually the DE) because a lot of the hearts and nearly none of the vistas ever impress me. Don’t get me wrong feeding cows is a great alternative – all the ones where I have to be a rabbit or whatever are just bleh.

So I find that when I’m doing DE farming I tend to get into parties for a bit, aside that I don’t bother.

Or you could try using staff air 5, water 4, and earth 4 to control their movement… plus the various other ways to inhibit your foes via utility skills if you so choose.

Relying on other people is for those who are too lazy to accomplish a goal themselves, perhaps that’s the only reason why staff has become so good for me.

uh yeah, that’s why it’s hard. hard =/= impossible

If using the skills given to you is hard I hate to imagine how a dungeon run goes with you (more like anyone this applies to btw, not specifically you) in the party.

it’s easy in pve when you’re always in a group that keeps the enemies from moving, and never have aggro on you

basically, it’s easiest against stationary targets. hardest against moving ones

if you know how to maneuver around or an opponent and dodge or know how to build up your class to counter theirs then the gear really doesn’t matter as much.

What if the other player also knows how to play his class? People are always assuming you’re playing against weaker classes or clueless players when it comes to this. Losing against an opponent in WvW will always have that “was he actually better or was it only his gear” feeling in the future (assuming ascended gear won’t be as easy to get as exotics).

The gear is going to give them what… 45 extra points towards his overall stats? If the battle isn’t won by a landslide, then the loser should just assume there was a way to win and that they should find it for next time.

Wondering if it’s gear that made someone else win is an excuse for people to continue not being the best player of their class… one should always strive for better and if you think that’s not possible then there should be nothing to worry about.

Because if you did your best and can’t think of any improvement and still lost, the devs have yet to finish balancing this game and it’s more likely their fault than any gear difference.

if everyone starts out with a baseline of 100 or a 1000 total stat points 45 more is a huge difference maker whether its 50% or 10% matters not the difference is the same.

Heres an example simplified so even a laymen can understand. You take 2 players same class , same trait distribution, same everything cept gear put one in full exotic and put other in ascended now simultaneously hit each other using same attack the person with the higher power, crit and health pool will always last longer no if’s and or but’s.

Standing still sure… but I’ve performed better than people with a full set of exotics when all I had was masterwork – and now that I have a full set of exotics I’ll still perform better than people with a full set of ascended. Trait distribution doesn’t matter – this game isn’t about automatically generated die rolls. If you want to be good at your profession you have to earn it not calculate it and that is where you will constantly fail if you choose to not get better.

Crazy… last time I ran TA with 2 guildies and 2 pick-ups, I ran MF AND still drew all the aggro.

Stats only help you so much, if you can’t maximize your skills effectively and mitigate damage properly you’re doomed to fail no matter what gear you have. Assuming MF gear brings the party down is pathetic, learn your profession better if you’re failing at dungeons because that’s what will help you get ahead.

Yeah, because getting aggro in this game = you doing the highest dps…ermmmm…not.
