when compared with SB.
Before patch, it take a little bit longer for LB to kill the golem than SB. And now LB is faster than SB, SO we clearly get a buff at LB DPS.

Is this logic right?

It depends on how you play in WvW. Either BM or Power build can shine in roaming, ranger is never weak in small scale fight. However, neither of those build is good enough (compared with other classes) for zerg surfing (especially organized mid-large scale fight). It’s a design failure. If you play a ranger in WvW, be rdy to be lonely.

This is my experience:
Guardian crying: WTF I was hit by meter shower 6k+!!!
Warrior: where where??
The opponent ele: How can I stop healing that warrior?

From what they showed in the livestream the new heal will be pretty bad, 3 seconds is not long at all and in no way will you take enough dmg to heal you full within that time or even get as much hp back as healing surge.

In zergs it might work ok if you get lucky and a whole lot of people hit you(or you go complete suicide and put it on) but in any small scale type of fighting it will be completely useless.

In fact, the Nature Magic X—Enlargement change is huge, with signet build, it will provide double stability, plus ROA, ranger might have the longest stability in the game, which is superior for WvW zerg fight. However, the old problem is still same, the group contribution by ranger in WvW zerg fight still remains too limited……
Also forget to mention, to get tripple stability, ranger has to put 30 into MS and 20 to NM, then only 20 left for other traits. :-(

The REAL and the only REAL reason that ranger is not welcomed in WvW is becoz ranger has the fewest AOE skills in the game.
While most of other classes have double digital number of AOE skills on their weapons, ranger only has 1.5 (torch 5 can be count as 0.5) AOE skill.
Even if Anet double the LB damage, ranger can be only a 1v1 hero in WvW, group-wise ranger still sucks.
This is design failure and can hardly be changed.
So ranger in WvW —-—- R.I.P

I am glad to see these changes. It will create a new 1v1 unbeatable Monster called Spirit-BM ranger(0/0/30/20/20 build) if my guess is not wrong. I didn’t see any chance other classes stand a single chance against such ranger after patch, it’s basically unkillable.
However, ranger is never weak in 1v1 (actually already pretty strong now), this is only making the strong stronger and most likely strongest, it will break the 1v1 balance.
And what ranger lacks (group/support ability) is still lacking badly……

Is this a right direction?

I can see some improvement, but Anet still doesn’t get it.
It’s in wrong direction.
Ranger is never weak in PVE or 1 vs 1 PVP situation, most complain comes from PVP area/group skills/utilitis, but I see nothing change.
I bet the situation of ranger will remain the same as now.

Before today’s patch I remember symbol of swiftness has no max-limit , right? As long as you pass it before it disappear, you get the swiftness buff.
However, today, I followed a big zerg in WvW, I kept passing numerous symbol of swiftness but I got no swiftness at all……until I cast my own symbol.
Since when it got ninja nerfed?

it’s not even lag, it’s bugged. Tried 3x tonight.
Everytime I got in WvW, after 1-2 mins, all my weapon skills got locked down (Utility skill = ok and move / dodge works as well).
Relog will solve the issue but once I get in WvW (any map), after 1-2 mins this gonna happen.
What I can do????

I had super lags (10-20 sec) every 1-2 mins and d/ced 3x times in last 10 mins, totally unplayable now.

Crazyyyyy lag issues on BP bl. We were all d/c’ing and getting 10 seconds of skill lag. Kind of an unfair advantage :P.

Didn’t see any1 talk about this. I am experiencing crazy lag+d/c issue in WvW right now.
Pretty sure not only me, coz everyone from BL d/c at least 5-6 time within last 30 mins. Some worse luck one (as me) will have 10+ sec lag every 1-2 mins as well.

Correct : most warriors as mentioned are -98% condition duration (cc).
So unless your team has some extreme + condition duration masters there to counter them, those warriors are just immune to conditions(cc).

Do you realistically think they all run +40% condition duration, massive condition spam, CC and boon removal just to counter this?

Staff 2 need some re-work.

Thanks for the tip. Tried it last night, it worked! First time to know this trick!
But unfortunately my Guardian is a super tall Norn, so I always overlook other chars while playing, no wonder my orb always go into the ground in front of my feet. I guess if I use small asura it will be better? If this is true , this design is kinda raxxxxxism……

It has nothing to do with your cursor, it is about your camera angle. When you see your toon looking at the back of his/her head you are actually looking at a downward angle. Try look up into the sky with nothing selected and use #2 and you will see the orb fly into the air

Oct 15th, ranger will get a nerf.
Based on GW2 history, Every time ppl expecting some major improvement for ranger, ranger get a nerf. When we shut up, we got some candy.
There is no doubt ranger will get some so-called buff (e.g. sick’em anti stealth), but in fact it might be useless practically , and ranger get a big nerf over all.

Staff 2 need some re-work.

Why it didn’t work for me that way>? Did you de-select auto-target?
For me it’s like:

Sample 1 : cursor on canon (but not select it), orb go into the ground in front of me. — of coz hit nothing……

Sample 2 : downed player just in front of me, and cursor on him (but not select him), orb go into the ground (where he laid down), it passed through his body, but do no damage……

It does, if you aim in front of you. Aim in the ground, it goes there. Aim in the air, it goes there.

Not sure it’s a bug, or it’s just the design.
If you don’t have a target, you cast staff 2, the orb will go into the ground just in front of you + hit nothing. Shouldn’t it suppose to just travel the direction you face no matter you have a target or not?

After a few hours play, have to say — DB’s NA force = totally dead. Not a single chance VS Mag’s NA. About same level as EB (but DB is 2 tiers higher than EB). If DB’s Asian force can not put a huge lead as before, I am expecting DB will fall to Tier4 soon.

Very interesting build. I won’t doubt its efficiency in roaming or small scare battles(actually I think it is just where this build specify at).
But for larger battles (eg. >10 each side) I highly doubt the spirit coz I have had a hard time to keep them alive.

I don’t need to hint anything. I play guardian for majority of WvW(mainly for organized medium-large group) and I also have 2 roamers (1 Condition/BM ranger + 1 GS/rifle warrior). Either my ranger or my warrior has never been killed by any guardian 1v1 simply becoz I can kite the guardian anytime as I want. For certain bunker guardian it may lead to a never-end fight but your build is clearly not that type. I am pretty confident to beat your build with either my ranger or warrior simply by kiting you to death.
BTW, also lol at you considering hammer 2 as a gap closer, you can run together with a friend who also has +25% speed and see whether you can beat him by using hammer 2 as gap closer.

kinda like CRrabbit with his pokittenkittenhat subtly try to hint how much of a pro beakitten GW2 player he is. Kudokitteno you bro, gee i didnt know guardians could be kited….. even with GS & Meditations it can kittenill be exploited around the cds…. atleakitten the gap closer with hammer #2 has a 5 sec CD compared to a 15 sec GS LoF or 45 sec Judge Int. even if its a shorter dikittenance the splash dmg has a pretty big radius from the point of impact.

BTW i use shelter now inkittenead of signet like a good boy :P

Just my 2 cents for AH build : 2-h mastery>EM (no matter how much crit chance you have)

I have done the calculation, even with 100% crit chance, no matter Might coverage (stack amount +duration) for team or AH self-healing, EM=2-h mastery plus staff 4. However, you get more benefit from 2-h mastery besides the might and healing (lower CD for other skills). And I feel significant better survivalbility with 2-h mastery than EM in WvW battles.
The only advantage EM over 2-h Mastery is that it’s a brainless trait.

6 piece of traveler = +25% speed, perma swiftness = +33%; basically any good roamer can maintain that, you lost in the 1st step although not too far since you have staff 3 to cover 2/3 of time;
Your build have 0 gap closer, you lost a big 2nd step;
You have only 0 active condition remover (only 2 passive), which means you will be crippled/chilled/immobilized for more than 1/2 of time, you lost another big 3rd step;
Your only hard CC (hammer 3) can be easily dodged, so you have no way to catch anyone who want to run away from you, you lost another 4th step.

Therefore , I see no reason you won’t be kited by any good roamer.

I think most roamers will just run around and play the “I CAN TOUCH YOU BUT YOU CAN’T CATCH ME” game with his guardian.

i think you failed to notice i had the 6 piece rune of the traveler passive. so no. i don’t get kited. im pretty much always in their face and people barely get away from me. unless theyre a War with a GS.

Full knight is definitely not a good choice. As a commander you should focus on T+V but not P. Solder/Sentinel combined with cleric is recommended. Overall, you should have at least 3k armor + 20k HP plus some decent healing power.

I’m going to try my hand at commanding on occasion when my guild needs it. I’m not new to WvW, but am new to commanding. If anyone has a good guardian commander build to share I’d appreciate it. I’m also looking for any general advice from seasoned guardian commanders.

AH build with full knights or clerics.

True, the only native NA guild left I can tell is EA but they are barely active now. I can still see a few EA here and there but never see them organized for pretty a while.

Yes DB has start to implode again recently. Almost all competitive guilds in NA time which I know have left. The rest guilds are not even close to play a leading role (at least for NA time).
For Asia coverage, AT has also left, luckily NNK/TVF still stay at DB as they did since day1.
We have been through the same experience in old school days, we will have to face it again. What DB lacks now(and always) is certain native DB core guilds such as NNK/TVF in NA time who can lead ppl. DB’s WvW population is still OK(for a T2 server), but badly lack of leadership now.

Is ppl/guilds moving away from DB before the league starts? The population in DB seems decreasing a lot since a last few weeks ago =/ We were on top of T2 months ago and now we are nearly back to T3

To be honest , you do have a little bit better survivalbility vs your old knight/zerk combo on paper, but I doubt whether you can really feel it practically. The major suvivalbilty come from AH itself but not gears. I used to tried same trait with full zerk VS soldier+knight combo but guess what? — I can’t feel the difference for surviving.

If you are talking about PVE, they are equally good , both can do super dps and easy to play;
If you are talking about sPvP/tPvP, guardian is more useful;
If you are talking about WvW, both are equally necessary for zerg/GvG; Guardian has better suvivialbility warrior has better CC and dps. For roaming, warrior is far way better than guardian due to the insane mobility.

for any fight >10v10, pet die instantly, if lucky they can cast a CC before they die, 2 pets, 2 CC, that’s it. Then ranger lost 40% of damage. Then so what? Survive? Armor/HP is joke when 10v10, I have tried extreme toughness/HP combination (have 3.2k Armor + 29k HP but I can hardly hold even 10 seconds VS 3 players if not escaping), it’s not the game changer. Only thing I can do to survive is getting out of the fight, then ranger’s pathetic damage (lost pet) can be ignored and you become the best target for BS thieves (oh yeah! a longly ranger w/o pet! what a delicious meat!), and neither your buff or water field can benefit your team.

Is there ever a valid ranger build for GvG?

To OP, since your build is still AH build, then the typical 0/0/30/30/10 is still the best choice in my opinion. 10 in zeal makes not much difference but 10 in virtues make significant noticeable difference .
Your crit chance is not high so I doubt the efficiency of EM, I would rather go for 2-h master in your case instead of EM.
Also for Utility, do you really feel hallowed ground is useful? In my experience, especially in GvG, ppl moves fast , so I would replace it with SYS.

Did some modification , here is my new build.
Just realized that with melandu+lemon grass, warrior is immun to CC and almost free to condition.
And easily switch rifle trait to hammer when run with zerg.

Thanks for advice. The reason I pushed hard to crit chance (98%) is for a guaranteed crit kill shot followed by volley, usually this guarantee a kill on any non-bunker target which is very important in small group fight. With power food crit chance drop to ~80% and more base power, it will increase my DPS for sure in zerg fight, maybe I will try different food while roaming & zerg.

I think you are a bit overkill on precision, power in king here, I think you could use sharp stones/Sweet and sour food for extra 100 power/10 crit dmg, and up your dps a bit, anything over 50% crit rate is good as is.

You know the key problem is the purpose of roaming.
I didn’t see any guardian DPS build have any chance to guarantee (or at least >50% chance) a kill VS any roamer (sometime not even a bunker build for certain classes) 1v1. Yes you can get OP’s 1/2 HP down really quick but that’s it, he just escape a little then come back. I didn’t see guardian has the ability to chase OP down.
For a long fight, yes a bunker guardian can last long enough till support coming, but if the OP’s support comes 1st, I didn’t see any chance a guardian can escape.
Then a guardian can neither kill nor escape. Then why roam as a guardian?

In fact I am looking for a real valid roaming build for guardian as well, but I didn’t find any.
The fact is — when I use my ranger/warrior to roam in WvW, the best target is guardian, smply becoz I will NEVER EVER die at least, and it’s truth that I was NEVER EVER killed by any guardian 1v1 in WvW.
Have to say (at least now): guardian is not for roaming in WvW.

Look at any of the builds here in this forum, there are several that support a roaming Guardian. There is no set built that will work for roaming, it really comes down to your comfort level. Honestly, it is that simple. Comfort.

I have three different builds I use. The go-to which is the healaway. Plain and simple it works. It works when I’m in a small group, pug, or even zerg. If I go solo, then I can handle my own against any, yes any, other class. It may be slow going or even a draw, but the fight is a equal one regardless and I have a chance to win.

Then there is my dps build which offers no support, very selfish, and weak in regards to the amount of damage “I” can sustain. When I’m out solo in this build it really is a matter of reaction time if truth be told. Why? Because I ignore everything for damage, has much as I can within gear and skill constraints, to take the other person out. Usually 2 v 1 isn’t going to come out with me on top. However, it will usually end up with one of the 2 going down…

Then there is the other build which is a hybrid of the two using AH and Hammer. It is based off another sticky up top using knights gear. It too works solo or zerg.

There you have it. 3 distinct builds for solo roaming that others have tested, debated, offered up, posted videos, etc. They work. Just how much is based on each of our own skills. Mine is so so.

Yours may be better so good luck.

After playing so many kinds of builds/weapons combination, I come back to short bow at last and found that spam 1 is still my favorite love.
By spamming 1, I did most of damage;
By spamming 1, while doing constant damage w/o worry of missing 1 or 2 arrows I always have enough time to release 2,3,4,5, swap pet F2 at exact good timing ;
And most important, by spamming 1, I feel relax…….
