Warrior tanks are purely situational because you rely on defensive healing and boons from outside sources. I think scrappers are the best tanks right now. They can maintain high toughness, self uptime protection, aegis, and regen, while at the same time remaining mobile and pumping out decent damage with bombs. Tanking in this game is all about protection and aegis boon uptime, which warriors don’t have. I think the world first clear of the new raid content used a scrapper to tank all four of the encounters.
The warrior’s high hp pool and with utilities like Endure Pain and Rousing Resiliance (1000 toughness with stun break trait), should make up for the lack of protection.
I feel that every profession has their own pros and cons when it comes to tanking, and even though some might be better (like ele and engi) the overall outcome is just as successful, regardless of which is doing the job.
Anyone who turns down x class as a tank and would rather wait 30 extra minutes just to get x class in their raid, is an idiot.
It is sad that Guardian, which my opinion only class that is originally designed by ANet to be closest to be classic Tank from other MMOs does not getting a consideration for tanking in raids says a lot about the problems we have at GW2 and state of Guardian specially.
DH or kick, men I love this game, 1000s of build combinations from gear and traits, only one viable build, I guess that must be balancing.
Guardian is much more of a healer in heavy armor than a tank.
If it was meant to be tanky, it wouldn’t have one of the lowest health pools in the game.
Yeah warriors can tank, are you kidding me? If your low on money just get yourself full clerics gear. For accessories: Nomad Amulet and 2 Nomad rings. The rest clerics.
Craft yourself 6 runes of the defender: When you block an attack get a 3k heal that will scale with healing power.
Traits:
Run Defense Trait = “Dogged March”, “Defy Pain”, “Rousing Resilience”
Tactics = Empowered, Empower Allies (If another warrior is running this, trait for “Shrug it off”) and “Vigorous shouts.”
Berserker = “Smash Brawler”, “Dead or Alive,” and “Bloody Roar.”Skills:
“To the limit” as your main heal, “Shake it off!” “For Great Justice!” “Outrage” and “Headbutt.” Headbutt could also be swapped for Battle Standard banner for group res.Weapons:
Greatsword/ Mace and shield.Use your shouts to keep your health up. Block enemy attacks for regen and burst heal from runes. Pop outrage when you get stunned/ knocked back etc for another burst heal and 1000 toughness thanks to “Rousing Resilience.” If you are not getting stunned and need the heal, use headbutt to stun yourself, then pop outrage for free 3k -4k heal and toughness gain. If your running low on health, use greatswords mobility to move out of the way for a little bit to regen and allow cooldowns to come back up, which won’t take very long considering your heals are gonna be around 20 seconds each.
This combined with team support will make you god mode, unless you screw up by popping everything at once. Use only when you need to, and rely on team mate support to pick you up when you make a mistake.
If you want a full toughness build, run the same traits, but this time have full nomad gear on everything, and run dolyak runes.
Wow, this guy has got this all planed out!
Thanks for the…everything
I’ve been thinking about leveling a warrior with the intent of building toughness and tanking in raids.
I know that all professions can tank great, but how is warrior suited to the role? It seems like the naturally high health pool and heavy armor would make it simple and realistic for tanking in raids.
If someone could make or recommend a build, that would be absolutely amazing!

Oh man, I love that guy.
Am I too late for the garage sale?
This topic would probably get more attention on the “Fractals, Dungeons, and Raids” section of the forums.
Staff skill 5 is one of the best skills for destroying break bars, while also doing nice damage.
Skill 4 is great for getting rid of conditions that a lot of jungle mobs will put on you.
Skill 3 is another block/blind for you, which can easily save your life many times, especially during tough bosses like wyvern and many of the hero point champions.
Skill 2 provides nice damage, and is fun to use in my opinion.
Auto attack, other than looking cool as heck, drops little healing orbs on the ground. Although the healing from the orbs is great, it’s still fun to play around with.
Berserker, with scholar or strength runes.
This is only for dungeons (which thankfully people stopped farming), and fractals.
I would suggest that the OP waits for raids, which are coming very soon, and create his gear according to what works well in there. Assuming he is gonna be doing raids, that is.
Na, remove damaging conditions from the game instead.
+1
So you guys are saying that this post isn’t sarcasm?
DH is easily in the top 3 most op specs in pvp. Not sure about how they fair in pve though.
Everywhere I go people are complaining about how crazy good they are.
Please! Taimi is my favorite LS character
The rotating Jalis hammers on Revenant are great for tagging
Forum censoring completely took over this thread LOL
Not really. You pretty much move the corsair to that guy and that guy is your target. It’s like Counter Strike now.

Edit: Oops, I forgot about the heal and elite skills.
Heal: “HMMMRP!”
Elite: “HEEEEERH!”
^_____________^!!!
Congrats to both of you!
Happy Anniversary! Thank you for the awesomeness that you do, Gaile
If you still grind dungeons (for some reason), then zerker gear is best since it allows for maximum faceroll. -_-
In the HoT Maguuma, you should have at least some defensive stats on your gear, even if it’s just on your accessories. There are many things in the jungle that will instantly kill you if you use full zerker (pocket raptors, smokescale, any champion). Raids are coming in the near future and will punish players for running full damaging gear stats.
Now, there is nothing wrong with using full berserker gears – it’s still an option. The only thing that it’s good at is for killing things as fast as possible.
Playing supportive roles are useful for every and a lot of fun for many of the tough bosses found in the jungle. Herald, being a highly supportive class, works great when played in such a way.
I wish that the Mods would crack down a little on this. I’d agree that there is entirely too much negativity and complaining on these forums.
At least it makes the happy/funny threads more enjoyable
I got a human Herald and a level 30 something human Guardian that I’m feeding tomes until he’s 80.
Then I have my Mesmer, ranger, warrior, engineer, and ele that are mostly around level 11, with the engi being 60ish.
Welcome to my character screen XD
Anet, please restrict the Mentor tag to low level areas. As said above, people will continually be discouraged to purchase commander tags. This new tag has made the previous tag completely useless.
I feel like dungeons are meant to be played as major steps in the personal story, done while leveling.
It’s a lot more immersive when you can easily group together with other people doing their story mode of the dungeon, rather than just rushing through the dungeon burning everything down in tight corners of the room. After all, these dungeons are all very story-driven. Hence all the dialogue cutscenes that fit in well while in the personal story while leveling.
I have only issues with dragonhunters and daredevils. Rev isn’t overpowered at all imo. Generally I destroy reapers though. What we sorely need as a rev is stability because if we want it now, we are forced to use jalis which is…..meh in pvp
There’s a trait that gives you stability when you dodge roll.
Also Jalis is a solid stance to use in PvP. That taunt is so useful once you get the hang of it.
You don’t have to “mash” your mouse button. You just hold it down!
A poor choice of words on my part.
I mean it would be nice not to have to hold the left mouse button down to continue autoattacks throughout every fight, and that the problem becomes particularly noticeable during long boss battles.
If a skill is set to automatically repeat normally, it should do the same when the Action Camera is active. If it has been toggled off (using Ctrl-Right-Click by default), then it should behave as it does now.
Joel created the new combat camera after being inspired by other action games. Nearly every action rpg/mmo/fps game requires you to hold down the left/right mouse button to continue attacking.
Give the new combat camera a chance, you’ll adjust to it, and will likely understand why it works this way
Although, your idea would be a nice addition for them to think about for future updates.
I also loved the new character selection/creation music.
It’s just as epic and amazing as the original!
Every class that has access to greatsword, destroys on greatsword.
Greatsword is the be all to end all and Its rather refreshing to not be forced to use it on Revenant as well.
go for charr, always Charr, need more charrs
Because humans: go IRL
Sylvari: Go vegan
Asura: too many mouses
Norn: Go IRL basquetballRytlock power!
You are the kind of man that will change peoples’ lives.
Yeah, ArenaNet really put a lot of love and attention into this expansion and its launch. They will make sure that all goes to plan
Congrats!
It is indeed awesome to hear about enemy servers helping each other out.
The Dragonhunter, being an extension of the Guardian, has access to lots of boons for both himself and his allies.
The Druid (Ranger elite specialization) can use both a staff and obviously a bow and has so much support in terms of healing their teammates.
The Revenant is the new profession coming with HoT. Revenants mostly specialize in boon sharing. However, they cannot use a bow and their staff is used in melee.
Sounds like you would like Warrior.
You don’t have to “mash” your mouse button. You just hold it down!
I bought my ultimate copy of HoT yesterday and I haven’t received my gems as of yet. I know that Anet stated that it could take up to 72 hours, but I was wondering how long it took you for you guy’s.
I’ll be playing as me, YAY !
I am quite jealous
If they could add body types and faces with a few fat, would be cool for making rich/old noble ladies.
They have a “fatter” body option, and a face that resembles an older women with wrinkles and such.
kitten no, there’s enough sexualization of human females as there is
Everything is (somehow) considered “sexualization” God forbid you actually like how a short skirt or tight pants look on a character.
There’s a lot more badkitten options for females in Gw2. Human female voice acting is HORRIBLE.
/imoAnd besides, why would you choose the crummy female voice actor over Nolan North?
I personally have a male human (and male charr and asura and female asura so far) but so many of the female humans in game look very nice and not all are sexualized. Female humans sound very confident and proud. I’m considering making a female revenant but change it to male eventually when I exhausted enough dye, armor, and outfit combinations. I do such on my male characters too (except for the gender swap of course) and my personal favorite is the lion charr warrior I made though I don’t care for how some dyes make heavy scale almost indistinguishable from worn scale.
It’s very true that you can make a very nice looking female human; the noble dresses from the gem store look fantastic on them :o as does the wedding dress.
It’s just sad that most people would rather dress them like hookers than actually putting a decent effort into their look. That kinda ruins the character for me, turning me away from ever wanting to make one
Guild Wars 2 with the best community?
What?
It is the best community.
But it can be so mean to the developers.
We unfortunately take all our stress and anger out on Colin. He’s used to it, though.

I rounded down!
Yhe thing i’m a bit afraid of is that class is too much awesome and everyone play it. This is gonna be hard to make raids with an army of revenants. Let’s be honest an invasion of revenant is coming.
The Revenant army will plow over all of those lesser classes.
They will bow down to their new kings.
15 hours HYPEhypeHYPEhypeHYPE
Because they need to sell HoT and what is better way to do it than create artificial demand by nerfing thief to oblivion and give rev all that thieves ever wanted?
They didn’t even stop there. They nerfed the core game as a whole and put all the goodies behind the pay wall. You want legendary? Too bad, the precursor will no longer drop after HoT since you can craft it there. If you want a legendary, you need to buy HoT.
Gw2 is not a free to play game. Be thankful that Anet doesn’t force you to play monthly.
Human females suck. Only race/gender combination that I will never play.
SOOOOOOOO MUCHHHHHH HHHHHYPE
GONNA BE GREAAAAAAAAAAAAT
This is beautiful and inspiring.
I hope for your speedy recovery. You are in our thoughts.
Well there’s this one drake nest near the bank of this lake in Queensdale. When I discovered this while doing map completion on my asura, I climbed in it and stayed there pretending it was my new home.
If it was some monthly thing for breast cancer awareness then sure. But since it’s just Hot… Nah… I’m going naked.
Now that’s HoT
You guys gotta realize that just because guardian isn’t the best at something, doesn’t mean that it’s useless and people won’t take it. People will continue to play guardian because they find it fun/like the aesthetic.
No need to burn down (no pun intended) guardian player’s hopes for raids.
