Nope, you’ll have to wait for season 2 of living story. Is there a particular type of guild your looking for?.
You guys are being mean. Mike is somewhat right, the FGS zerk rushes are killing the RP in GW2.
Q. Does VideogamerMike likes to make a complete idiot out of himself on here??.
y u no zerg calamity
boogie pls
does the boogie dance :P
Please, do go on, I’m nothing but sheer interest towards constructive criticism :>
Why I didn’t know you were so interested in neurological thesis Enaretos :P.
So you are saying that those of us that spare our time to teach need to pay from our own pockets to made a site to add videos that we record also on our free time to show how to complete simple dungeon paths for those not willing to put in the effort to google “gw2 dungeon mentor” ontop of the DnT guides already out there after every new patch? So instead of people spending some time actually learning to play for themselves they need a video explaining in great detail how to dodge and press 1 to win?
who is going to pay for this when some of us are already paying for TS for people to come on to have a 1 on 1 explanation of how to play as a team. IMO this just sounds like spoon feeding those who are too lazy to put in any effort at all when help is available and free.
You know what, I had a long list of things to say. But meh.
Which then quickly fall apart because they’re terrible leaders and don’t want to take the responsibilities leading takes.
Which begs the question, why be a leader in the first place. If you’re not wanting to be a leader at all. No one is forcing them to be guild leaders.
It’s one of those weird things that humanity does in general. See: spectator effect. It is also the reason why no one speaks up in class at college.
To form the party is to take leadership, to take initiative, and to take a role of responsibility. Many people don’t like this, for many unsaid and subconscious reasons:
#1: As group leader, failure is considered your fault. People don’t want to risk looking like a failure.
#2: Groups are forming all of the time. People won’t form one because they’re expecting the next one to be right around the corner.
#3: The leader is expected to discipline unruly members, and many people don’t want to be harsh or judgmental to other people. They would rather avoid conflict.
#4: The leader is expected to be experienced and knowledgeable in the game, capable of solving problems as they arise. Many people have neither experience, knowledge, or problem solving skills.
#5: Many players don’t know what being a leader entails. They attribute leadership skills to wizardry, not knowing that we’re making it up as we go along. They don’t feel qualified to be a leader, so they don’t step up.
#6: Being a leader requires you to be in conflict with other leaders. Again, they want to avoid conflict.
^
This pretty much explains the human psyche on the role of leaders.
What are you talking about! I don’t see your channel being publicized like the feature patch by the GW2 mods!
Oh. What do we do about those people who failed to hear/read/know about GW2’s feature patch? :O Certainly ANet has yet to figure out the best way to channel their news!
I’ll let you have that jibe / dig :P.
Unlike the official forum, you have creative control over what content goes on. The presentation, layout etc. If you market it right then it might be worth a shot. High risk, high reward as it goes.
“I am not the least bit offended, actually.” – why am I finding this hard to believe?.
“He did mention that this avenue for teaching those who want to learn about the dungeons is already stickied.”
“If you’re not happy with the way this channel is being publicized, please share some constructive ideas about how to improve this, instead of pointing out something obvious like how x method cannot reach out to everyone”
Really?, you have a go at me for pointing out the obvious, but yet when he does the very same thing, it’s all handy dandy for him to do so. I suggest you read the next bit really carefully.
“Trust me, people here have tried to make this as visible and accessible as possible.” -
You expect me to trust you, but whenever one of your “respected” posters get criticized. A few of you will close rank. Makes it hard to gain any trust. Trust is earned, demanding it is not the answer.
“If you’re not happy with the way this channel is being publicized”
Sorry, but if anyone is exasperated or “unhappy” by all this. It would be users like you. As you stated yourself “people tried everything to make the stickies as accessible to everyone”. I’m just throwing my two cents here, – so it begs the question why would I be unhappy?.
“please share some constructive ideas about how to improve this”
I’ll bite. Has anyone considered: a separate website. Where all the tutors can put notes, videos etc. On to this website. Make it attractive as possible. Have the GW2 FB mods to link this up from their site. YT channel, clear HD videos. With each one, giving a basic tutorial on dungeons (yes I know your competing with other users that post the same thing) if all the tutors do this on one channel, it makes it more accessible. Visual presentation goes a long way. Have the websites url as your signature. Twitter etc. All this requires time and effort of course.
The frequency of requests for invites, while small compared to the player base as a whole, is still pretty high. We can’t teach everyone, and we will not, but we will teach those who reach out to us and ask for help. Everyone is welcome – even VideoGamermike, if only he would widen his view a little more.
I did suspect that that the tutors were being overload with requests. And spread out quite thin. From the looks of it, VideoGamermike, is a lost cause. He won’t change his stance and view point.
That line of argument might work if we’re not in an internet era for a game that requires internet access. Information is cheap and not hard to come by, all it takes is a lil bit of effort for them to use some sense to use Google or official forum.
If they don’t make that kind of minimum effort, they don’t deserve anything. Go ahead and be a champion for these people.
I merely pointed out a critical flaw in his statement. Discerning as to which is the correct info to use can be problematic for some (information overload). As I’ve already stated, some don’t frequent the dungeon board on the official forum.
I do agree that those that don’t make effort at all don’t deserve anything at all.
Go right ahead and be offended, if your sensibilities can’t take such criticism.
This really will be my last post as I do want to answer a question given to me as it did legitimately aid in my understanding of this issue, and why I had such trouble comparing ideas for fighting(and why I didn’t see much math as useful).
Thats because….you can’t. You can’t compare one set of stats/gear to another, they are nothing alike in purpose or execution. The fact is, because of the different goals we can’t compare.Take kyosuke, the character I brought up before. I actually brought him up incorrectly as he is more of a duelist style, using high armor to tank a lot of attacks, then picking the open point and ripping right in. In on fight, he gave up his mechs right arm, to stab a revolver through the opposing mechs head. He won, but it was only when he forced an using with his high armor, rather than going all-out. Translated to GW2, this style would focus on tanking hits until the point when the enemy is vulnerable(or at least finished with his special attacks), then striking at all hell with high precision damage. That is the goal.
This is where the difference comes in. If we compare that to a berserker build…it can’t be compared. One is centered around sheer killing power based on the derivative over time, while the other is based on both how much damage can be held(how much crunch power can be withheld,) as well as the amount of damage returned during that limited opening. As such, you can’t compare them because they very different goals, and thus, have different variables.
My issue with this berserker religion, is the idea that one is “better.” For some, sure, but for others, not. What’s important isn’t finding a single variable to any idea, but instead to identify what the goals of the build is, and how to bets meet that goal. So what would be judged as quality would be how effective a build is at the particular goal.
This means that beserker is not the best, only the best in getting as much damage as humanly possible, as fast as humanly possible. If the berserker build fits you, excellent! but I refuse to believe I am the only one who bases my strategy on the character, and wants to adapt and perfect each new style developed as a result of that character, each with their own goals and end results during a fight. I don’t want to play one build over and over, I want to enjoy the game over and over, each with a new strategy and technique. And I can’t be the only one who doesn’t just pick one style.
thank you to whoever asked that question, it was very insightful to answer and I feel helped me understand my goal in this game far better, thank you for that introspective look on myself.
So this is the “infamous” Videogamermike that was fore mentioned. One word to describe his entire post; waffle.
Can some1 please post the NOOB thread here for me please as im on my phone just so we can make xallevers point clear that there are resources there for those who are new.. Its even on the 1st page of the dungeons forum, it was stickied there for a reason…and yes, there are PLENTY of people willing to teach on THEIR free time vs making money for themselves.
All good if they frequent / come on to the forum. What about those that don’t?. By all means spam mail them the link, if it helps.
VideoGamermike? Is that a second account?
Who?
This might be a job for mr. Whisker. His prose is renowned for clarity.
Meow!!! claws and all are out :P xDD.
Again you are misunderstanding. He is saying that nobody has an obligation to teach anyone, and not everyone wants to run/teach newbies so they ask for EXP only but still getting newbies in their team, which is a problem. This is even worse because there is so much opportunity for newbies to learn or be taught by someone just by looking up a bit of info online.
This is where the issues raises, which you guys aren’t understanding in my previous post. People learn at different pace, some will be faster than others. Some only learn through first hand, whilst others learn through reading. And I agree with you, not everyone wants to teach (as I’ve stated previously). And those that do teach, their standards might not be up to your own standards. As I’ve said, the player (the newbie) needs to understand where they are going wrong, they need to re-evaluate themselves.
Then you’re caught in a catch 22. You want experienced players, but then end up with newbies. But how can these newbies learn anything, if no one is willing to teach. It’s a vicious cycle. Where, resentment is thrown at the experienced dungeon runners on these forums. And where the experienced runners are getting frustrated at being resented at, and be constantly on the defense on these forums.
I don’t think you understand me. I meant that, because you say we shouldn’t complain when someone doesn’t follow our LFG requirements, you shouldn’t either when someone joins your group and goes directly against your LFG requirements.
And by the by, I don’t think I need to learn anything about tolerance, patience and acceptance and I’m pretty sure I won’t either when joining one of your groups.
If you’re going to para-phrase, then phrase with context and understanding as I’ve stated this “There is something called constructive criticism. Give them that at the very least, so that they can get better”. Meaning in future should they turn up, they will be in a better position to meet your requirements.
Won’t lose any sleep that you didn’t join my group. If fact wouldn’t learn anything with you in my group. No matter how experienced you are.
The problem isn’t the willingness to teach (not that I don’t think there’s something wrong with not wanting to teach; when is there ever the obligation to teach and educate someone unless it’s your job or like they’re your own children?) but newbies joining dungeons that require EXP runs only.
On top of that, what’s worse is that there’s now an avenue for people who are new to dungeons to seek appropriate mentors to learn about the dungeon.
You do realize that, these two statements are conflicting with each other?. How can you not have a problem with teaching and then go on to say it’s bad that there is a problem with a resource for where teaching is available?.
Then don’t complain when I join your no zerk, all levels, everyone welcome group and start kittening about the fact that no one is using zerker and we aren’t going through the dungeon fast enough.
You’re more than welcome to join. Have yet to meet any one on my “no zerk, all level, everyone welcome” group, that starts complaining about having no zerkers. In fact you’ll learn a thing or two about tolerance, patience and acceptance when you are in my group.
And here we have it.The game has been out for some time now and people know how to do stuff. There are mentors, guides and information all over the internet. It’s entitled to expect random people to allocate time to teaching someone on the fly how to play and why X is better than Y if the person in question doesn’t want he himself to look it up from… well, anywhere basically.
There is a BIG difference between theory and practice. Whilst it may work for some, it may not work for others. Some excel with a hands on approach, whilst others excel on reading and gathering info. At least understand that basic principal. The player alone needs to understand where he/she is going wrong. That is the only way to learn and experience anything. So they can learn to rectify their mistakes. Lambasting them, or creating an atmosphere where they can’t approach someone for help. If anything it will hinder them – so don’t complain if they aren’t exactly meeting your requirements.
There is something called constructive criticism. Give them that at the very least, so that they can get better.
“Zerker is not selfish because it allows you to maximise your damage which helps your party beat the boss faster. " – it is selfish, in fact every stat IS selfish to a certain degree. That is where you have failed to understand. If the stats can’t be of help, then you simply utilize the skill(s) of them players – find out what they have in their kitten nal. It’s called improvising and build a strat around that. It may take a bit longer than normal though, that is the only down side. Whether you can do this on the fly, depends on your skill alone. Correction, only a select few are willing to tutor the newbies on dungeon. They should be commended for doing so. The rest don’t have the patience or time to do so. There are plenty of threads stating why there is a dislike for ‘elitist’ dungeon runners.
“None of them seem to have the patience or interest to learn content they already think they are above.”
Same applies for the"elite" dungeon runners.
And guess what pugs do against mossman, archdiviner and the hotw troll? Range. Because it’s easier. Does it make sense to you that you can fire away with your bow and the boss doesn’t get their alternate weapon set out? They just run after you with melee weapons? It goes both ways – but the fact of the matter is, this is a video game, and personally I think stacking close together for boons is nice because it promotes team play. I’m sure you must think the legions and phalanxes of old were absolutely insane for stacking tightly together, but they did it. Your laziness in not wanting to make a no stacking group isn’t a good enough reason for anet changing it either, clearly you don’t want to not stack very badly if you can’t even be bothered to write it in your lfg description. Sure, you’ll get people who can’t read, but so do berserker lfgs. And what do you do if that happens? You kick them of course.
Does the crow bar [tool] utility used for Engi count as melee?. Because out of all the professions, they are 100% ranged. With no weapon swap.
It’s simple, stop joining groups that ask for zerkers. Stop expecting to be able to run your crappy 1/5/3/2/5 builds on your rangers in FotM 49.
It comes down to understanding the content. PvE is all about damage with the way the AI works. Yes, you can run other specs and it works, but it takes far longer and it’s ultimately pointless. Toughness and Vitality are incredibly selfish stats. They are simply there to allow you to make more mistakes, that’s it.
The only time you’ll be kicked is if you join the wrong group. Join casual runs and you wont have a problem.
Isn’t Zerker gear & stats also incredibly selfish?. By all means, keep bludgeoning everything that moves. Whilst NOT changing up your play style to adapt to circumstantial situations.
If anything that encourages lazy play styles, with over bloated egos to boot. Must be pointless to learn anything else, right?. And then have the temerity to moan about how there is no content or how other people have their “suboptimal” build – whilst refusing to actually advise them on how they may become better, to teach them so they can be better runners / players in dungeons.
But nope you look down on them " Stop expecting to be able to run your crappy 1/5/3/2/5 builds". And you wonder why there is a level of contempt & dislike to “elitist” dungeon runners.
TL;DR; Elitist come across as; arrogant, snobby players. Who refuse to teach or advise others (they only do – if they meet their requirements). And they have the temerity to judge others?. But heavily dislike others judging them. Hypocrisy at it’s worst.
You can mail items to other players – if that accounts for anything. But you only have (I think) like 5 slots per item. And you can send gold as well. With gold I’d be careful, they might mistake you passing on gold as gold selling.
When it comes to second in command or guild recruiters, always be in constant communication with them. As they will be giving general feedback as to what is the general mood within the guild. Also, if one of your second in command or recruiter leaves the guild. Find a replacement that will benefit the guild and will more than likely help to stick around and help nurture the guild. Not someone that is only interested in getting a promotion and does nothing to help the guild.
1. Choose the crafting profession that is viable to you, since your starting out.
2. No, your not doing anything wrong. Crafting is a time consuming thing. You have to either; farm for the resources or you can buy them off the TP (trading post) they will cost in game currencies though. Lower tier mats will be cheap, higher tier mats will be expensive.
3. Warrior has the higher DPS. However in terms of build, it’s very limited and it’s skill set hit the ceiling pretty quickly. Guardian is balanced, but has more viable builds over the warrior.
4. There is no meta / build requirement for PvE. Your survivability & DPS is what it is needed, since you are down scaled to match the area you are in.
5 & 5.5. Depends on the people you are dealing with. And just how competitive they really are in PvP. Personally, the community here is pretty good.
6. Depends on their requirement, some guild(s) want you to represent them 100%. You’ll have to read their guild requirement post.
7. Personal bank.
Hey Tillinips,
Well the guild I’m with is on the Aurora glade server. We accept all players from EU servers. And we have an age requirement 21+. Check out our recruitment post here. We do dungeons, fractals, world bosses and sometimes WvW.
I would like to know the times as to when the triple headed wurm shows on EU servers.
Also if any group is organizing an attempt at the wurm, can they state as to which:
- Server (if on the mega server, then just state date and time)
- Date
- Time
Since I would like to join the group in their attempts.
Thanks.
@ Etepnator. Sure just apply on the guilds website.
It can be disheartening to see guild members go. As it effects the numbers in your guild. However, this is the norm. Keep recruiting and also see where you are going wrong, re-evaluate as to why member(s) want to leave. Discuss as to why they are unhappy, or want to leave. If it goes against guild policy then either; readjust your policy to accommodate their needs, BUT without it effecting the guild overall, basically coming to a compromise or let them be on their way if you’re not looking for any compromises. Which ever stance you take is up to you.
0%. I will never craft a legendary until I can craft or loot a precursor.
I am not going to use the mystic toilet RNG or pay over-inflated prices. There are better uses for my gold.
I’m with Darkspirit on this. It’s the journey of making a legendary, the feeling of accomplishing something that you worked hard for – something that you’ve aimed for, till you actually have it in your hands. Not something that can be done so quickly, that it makes you go ‘meh’ after you’ve made your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th legendary. Or find it a chore to do.
Also, don’t be afraid to let your recruitment post change over time as your guild grows and shapes itself. Keep your information up to date to reflect how your guild has grown. Look back at your posts now and then to see the changes. Your guild is almost like a child in a way, it grows and changes over time, but we might not always notice at first.
Aria is correct on this one. Update your guild recruitment post, to reflect the growth of your guild.
Hey,
You should read this post to help your guild out in recruitment.
Just to touch upon something. When I say observe other guilds recruitment post, try not to actually copy their post. Your recruitment should reflect YOU and YOUR vision for YOUR guild. It won’t help if you copy another guilds recruitment post, as it’s not your vision. Write and re-write your recruitment post, till it reflects you and your vision for your guild.
As Darkmoore said, feel free to ask questions
.
Hey Dex,
Well you can try out the guild I’m with. They’re on the aurora glade server. You can read the recruitment post here.
Hey Aisina : D
I’m with a guild that is on the aurora glade server, so you can guest over. And we pretty much do what you’re looking for xDD. We also have an age requirement 21+. Take a look at the guilds recruitment post here.
Ok, here is my take on what happens after the patch goes live.
- You log in character # 1 and it has 30 (non-starter) dyes that get registered as ACCOUNT wide.
- You log in character # 2 and the 10 (non starter) dyes that Char # 1 did NOT have get registered as ACCOUNT wide (now 40 account wide dyes registered. Also, Char 2 had 5 additional dyes that Char 1 already registered…..5 unidentified dyes appear in Char 2 inventory (or mail if inventory is full?).
- Log in Character # 3 and no new dyes get registered, but 25 of the dyes already ACCOUNT wide were duplicated on this character…..25 unidentified dyes generated.
- Log in Character # 4 has 10 more dyes for the ACCOUNT wide registration (now total of 50 that ANY character can use) and 10 others that were already registered….10 more unidentified dyes.
- ETC…ETC…
Take unidentified dyes and either try to sell them (at a MUCH Lower price since this is going to GLUT the UID dye market).
- OR -
Open all of them and register the new ones and take the duplicates to the Mystic Flusher (or sell).
This is to eliminate all duplicate dyes. So not only do you get to keep one – accessible to your own characters, but sell the other one. Not every player would have various dyes unlocked. And you’re not taking in to account of new players coming in. So what’s the main complaint?. It’s a win – win situation.
XP – I’m assuming you’re doing the personal story as you progress (if not it will help) so my advice would be do to include gathering and crafting into your completion. You should easily be of an appropriate level for the next zone that way. Also use consumables (food/sharpening stones/oils) and boosters and it’ll help a lot.
The main reason people have an issue with Rangers is dungeons when they sit at 1500 range without being truly beneficial to the team (no boon sharing, no rez assistance, causing certain abilities to activate on bosses). If you like a Ranger play a Ranger. They are good fun.
The Train in Queensdale is basically hopping between 4 or 5 champs to earn loot and gold. As a lower level player I’d advise to avoid it (it’s your choice of course but I find it can burn you out quite quickly). If you come across an event you think you’ll need help with then call it out in map chat. Someone will most likely come and help you. Also it may be beneficial to find a guild. They’ll be able to help a bit more as they’ll most likely have newer members or members with alts that need levelling and can join you.
Hope that helps.
^ sums everything up. Also the reason why rangers are hated in dungeons is because of the pet AI. It does more harm than good. The pet AI is stupid and ends up causing more aggro. Even with good pet management, it still causes problems. That’s why they are disliked in dungeons.
Hey Rahtid,
Well I’m with a guild that is on the Aurora glade server. And we’re pretty much a mixed and eccentric bunch. You can read the guild recruitment post here. And we do have age requirement 21+.
Well, if there isn’t any guilds on the Vabbi server to your liking, you can guest over to any EU servers (all EU or NA servers can guest on each other, but can’t cross guest EU to NA or vice versa). And find a guild that can help you out. To transfer over, normally there is a gem fee (500 for a low pop, 2.4k for a high pop). But for a limited time only, there are some servers that you can transfer over for free. Click on the world selection, click on which server you want to go and click on transfer.
If any guild leaders can discuss as to the pros and cons of using social media sites, like face book pages instead of guild sites; guild launch, shivtr and enjin. Would be helpful. Would this make smaller guilds who aren’t as creative with their site, make it easier to attract and communicate with their guild mates.
Also can it be possible to make this thread a sticky, so it doesn’t need to be bumped up. As I feel it has valuable information that can be beneficial to players that are thinking of starting up new guilds. And I do link this thread up, when new guilds are created.
Yipes, unfortunately the guild I’m with are only willing to take people from EU servers. Because you can’t guest NA to EU servers (and vice versa). So you’re probably best off considering Remnants offer or waiting out for more offers. Best of luck though
.
It’s up to you if you’re interested. Best of luck in finding a guild that suits you, if you’re not interested. But do feel free to ask any question(s) about the game though.
Hey pooptart,
You might want to tell us which server you’re on xDD. If you’re on any EU server, you can guest over and check out the guild I’m with. You can read their recruitment post here. And the guild has a age requirement 21+. Any questions feel free to ask.
You can guest over – desolation is an EU server. All EU servers can guest on each others servers. Same with NA servers, can guest on all NA servers. But you can’t cross-guest NA to EU servers or vice versa.
Okay, anyone who is still thinking of recruiting Reika should read the OP. They’ve quit playing the game. So don’t bother pasting your guild recruitment post on here.
