“and the simple fact that doing ANYTHING in life more than the other person ALWAYS rewards you more. Seriously, you get taught that when you are a small child.”
No, it is not. Doing something better – yes. Doing something more – no.
Sorry, but I cant argue with fail logic.
Official Dev Word is actually that they havent decided how they will release expansion style content since the Living World is something that is very new and they are still figuring out what works with it and what doesnt.
Colin Johansson has said that they have a large dev crew working on longer term projects for the game but they arent ready to talk about what is being worked on yet. How they release this content, either as super large LS updates or paid expansions, hasnt been decided on yet.
This… right here ^^^^^^.
Gosh, still not even a year old and calling for an expansion [again].
If you are bored, find something else to do for a little while. Its not like your account is going to be removed if you opt to take a break.
But most players who have been there since the beta or release….are pretty much already bored with the game.
Take me for example. I even took a break from the game for a couple of months and that’s considering I have 4 lvl 80’s. Imagine if I only had ONE character…..it would have been torture.
Its just recently when they changed the release cycle of their LS stuff that it has gotten a bit more interesting for like the first few days of the LS release….but that content is so small that any player can chew through that stuff in a matter of days.
Ergo, you don’t understand that 100% of players don’t play the game the way you do, which was the point of my comment.
If players are not objective-oriented then they shouldn’t join a dungeon with an explicit objective.
I don’t need to say anything more. :P Be aware that the world doesn’t revolve around yourself, though.
So now you are arguing that the point of entering a dungeon run is to not finish it?
mmm…yeah, good luck with that.
I actually liked that they changed how dungeon rewards work….I just don’t like how it is account bound instead of character based.
True there were a lot of people grinding dungeons with their alts….but what was the percentage of players who grinded with 5 or more alts? Very little.
What needed changing was the constant grind of cof path 1 with the same toon for gold. Hopefully a lot more people run other dungeons from now on.
It is not time for an expansion. It would probably kill the game.
But it is time for REAL content to appear. So far LS has been nothing but holiday events. If you stop and think about it, there has been almost absolutely NO core content added since the release of the game for except fractals….and that’s already gotten old.
sorry, but it is being selfish…..until Anet fixes pve.
Wow! Twice the play time got you twice the reward. I bet 10 times the play time would result in 10 times the reward.
(rolleyes) Obviously, I meant per day. A casual can, just like a hardcore player log in every day of the week and do his dailies. But the casual can’t play two hours or more per day. That’s why we have dailies. Think about it.
Nope. You are grasping at straws and you know it.
Plus you purposely completely ignored his analogy of a hardcore vs casual. Life is such that if you put more time into something, then usually you get more rewards out of it.
Its like someone who works part time vs full time. Should someone part time earn as much as full time? Makes no sense whatsoever…..and yah, I can compare playing a game to a job. There are pro gamers too, and the simple fact that doing ANYTHING in life more than the other person ALWAYS rewards you more. Seriously, you get taught that when you are a small child.
Games like jobs are in the past and won’t return. Not being a job and WvW – is a reasons why GW2 is not died already. All other games without endgame are dead in 6 month.
What? Reading comprehension pls.
“and the simple fact that doing ANYTHING in life more than the other person ALWAYS rewards you more. Seriously, you get taught that when you are a small child.”
Don’t just pick ONE part of my sentence and take it out of context pls.
Plus WvW is just completely a horrible experience in my opinion. This game is NOT still alive just because of WvW. Though I admit this is not part of the discussion so don’t start arguing how great WvW is to me.
The only reason I run with two pieces of knights gear (shoulder and gloves) on my Warrior is because all I do is PUG. Sometimes I really have to wonder wth players are actually running with…..
The best grps I ran with are those who wear zerker and they usually know the fights and strats. The rest of the players, like some in this thread, just have no clue what they are doing and always ALWAYS makes the runs harder than they should be.
Zerker gear is the best for pve, that’s a fact.
Sometimes I wished I was a jerk and just kicked staff guardians, staff ele, insert horrible build here, out of grps. But im way too nice for that, so I just sigh and carry them.
I don’t like the current meta though and hopefully Anet can come up with a solution to fix this.
Wow! Twice the play time got you twice the reward. I bet 10 times the play time would result in 10 times the reward.

ofc it is. PvP in this game, in my opinion, sucks.
WvW has pve mixed in there….and it also has no actual winner in the end. You accomplished nothing during the two weeks and if your server has no night time watch force, it sucks even more as you have absolutely no control of what is happening.
Spvp/Tpvp is a bit more fun than WvW but still sucks. Its all about control points rather than actual PvP. Is it so hard to come out with PvP modes that are actually interesting? swtor had more interesting PvP modes than this game and that game wasn’t really all that good. Specially the football like game, which I don’t remember the name of, was pretty fun and seems a lot better designed than most Anets “mini pvp games”.
So yah, this game is pve.
I agree. She is pretty hard for a mere mini pet.
I agree with you title but for completely different reasons. Coming into GW2 you should have known that stat grind would have been minimal compared to lets say WoW.
Yes, this game is all about cosmetics. Though there aren’t enough of it (aesthetically nice ones) to begin with. Which is a BIG problem. Also you have to transmute them or lose them which is another BIG problem.
Besides the issue about cosmetics, my biggest issue is the complete lack of content at end game. The whole game being “end game” was nothing but a marketing phrase. Anet has sat on their butts since the game came out and barely any CORE content has come out since then.
I agree with OP.
Add the system to the TP that is currently in place for the gem store. It always asks you for confirmation.
This doesn’t give players more work. Its just one extra click…..and if you are complaining about clicking in an mmo……
I think having to confirm every item purchase might get very tedious. If they only added the confirm feature for say, items over 100g, then it might be acceptable.
As I stated above, a simpler solution would just be to re-enable personal gold bank storage.
I really don’t think it would be that tedious. I think the 100g is too high a ceiling. Maybe 5-10g is good.
What a crappy attitude to take.
Since it hasn’t happened to me yet, its no problem.
Why is it a crappy attitude? I was simply being frank. If a player doesn’t pay attention and clicks the wrong button then it isn’t the games fault it is the players. The “back to search” link is well below the buy button. I won’t lie I have purchased the wrong thing a few times because I wasn’t paying attention. I chalked it up to a lesson learned and to be more careful with my purchases. They could make it a two click process to buy and I am certain someone would still mess it up by not paying attention and then want even more measures in place.
If they make it a two click process and the player still messes it up, then he has no one else but himself to blame. Any complaints will fall in deaf ears and the community will laugh at him for even complaining about it.
What happened to OP has not happened to me, but I can certainly see that it could happen. Usually I play long hour sessions. That means you are also tired. A lot of things can happen when you are tired.
yes please.
Since Anet is basically relegating everything to account bound, it doesn’t seem fair to me that anything that makes Anet money would be per character and anything that helps the player is being turned into account bound.
Doesn’t work that way. No more Gem purchases till something changes.
I agree with OP.
Add the system to the TP that is currently in place for the gem store. It always asks you for confirmation.
This doesn’t give players more work. Its just one extra click…..and if you are complaining about clicking in an mmo……
Yes but what about people making a mistake and buying a precursor for example?
believe me if it happened to me then it will happen to people as well.
I’m sure it happened to others already.
It’s called caution and attention to detail especially when you are fiddling with transactions of the magnitude. I’m a believer that a game should only do so much hand holding. Think before you click, pretty simple.
What a crappy attitude to take.
Since it hasn’t happened to me yet, its no problem.
I agree with op. The final death for alts is the account bound dungeon rewards.
I have 4 level 80’s. Engineer, Warrior, Ele, and guardian.
Guardian being my the last alt I leveled so hes not as geared as the others. Basically this change forces me to ONLY concentrate on my pve tier 1 toons. Which are my Warrior and Guardian.
My Engi was pretty geared and needed 1-2 more zerker gears. Was my secondary toon before this change. Will be relegated to farming WvW for achievements.
My Ele needs to change all her gear from PTV to Knights and Zerker. Was planning to gear her after finishing my Engi. Prob will never get the chance to play her again. With ascended armor coming out….
Now whats the point of gearing them up when the Guardian class is a much better class for pve than the others? So basically I will forego my plans to gear those two toons and gear up my Guardian instead.
So what the problem you might ask? Take a look at the game and you will find out. I don’t think we need yet another Guardian out of thousands in the game…..The game would have been enhanced by me going Ele and Engi instead.
To top it all of, the alt holic that I am, I was planning to level a Mesmer. Which I will and spend the time to do it….yet another Mesmer out of thousands.
Notice a pattern here? Since Anet has made Alts so much more harder and time consuming to level. I will only put the time to gear and level tier 1 pve toons. Why waste my time on anything else?
and before someone mentions that Ele and Engi are good classes for WvW, if you already didn’t notice, I hate WvW and only play PvE. I only do WvW for the monthly.
tldr version.
pve players will only concentrate now on tier 1 pve toons. Soon enough the game will only have War, Mes, and Guar toons. That’s bad for the game. Not only that, all leveling zones will be pretty much (more) empty now since less people are leveling alts.
+1 for this thread also!
Touching on what BillFreist said. I think the best solution is to have a method something like the Elementalist.
Each time a Elementalist switches attunements, besides getting the nameplate icon…..they also get a bit of a “effect” relating to the attunement they switched to.
This helps with 2 things. 1)Telling the player who is playing the Ele that they successfully switched attunements. 2) Telling enemy players that Ele switched attunements.
So the Engineer could also have a “effect” happen whenever he/she switches kits. If we don’t have that, then it would be impossible to tell if the switch was successful until after using the skill you intended or if you look at your skill bar (which you shouldn’t be).
The reason I think this is the best solution is because, as stated many times above, there is such a small window of opportunity for the enemy player to actually look at the hobosack type to tell what kit they are in. Players most of the time tell what kit the engineer is using by what skills he/she is using, by the weapon they are holding, and by what the situation would necessitate the engineer to use.
DOWN WITH THE HOBO SACKS!
On a side note, also make them toggle-able for those who like it.
and also….pls no fanny packs….seriously…
No. If legendary items were earned through skill..then yeah. But legendary items are based on luck and grinding.
I am far more impressed with players who have PvP armor.
And too bad the devs don’t play enough of this game to notice the extreme lack of core content anyone who’s played from the beginning , and has continued to play to this day, can attest to.
One of the biggest things they touted before the game came out was the personal story…..and yes, it turned out to be garbage. The story itself is a bit interesting in the beginning, but then quickly turns into mediocrity. Though that is not the main problem.
The biggest mistake here was definitely the “talking heads” approach OP describes. Its the single worst way Anet could have picked as a story telling tool. It completely takes you out of the game world into a very crappy animated marionette show.
Not only that, since they limited themselves to that crappy story telling template, most scenes just came out as uninteresting and hard to follow.
For a good way to do dialogue in an mmo….look no further than SWTOR. The game might have been crappy but their story telling techniques were very effective.
Anet really needs to improve their story telling techniques. It is obvious this is their weakest link right now. Just look at all the stuff with the “living story” stuff. Who knows the hell is going on? I get a cryptic email about something going on. I have to then open my achievement tab to see what I have to do…..and then that’s it lol. A grade school kid could probably match that level of skill……
All we have now is trench coats and butt capes.
Why can’t we have skimpy looking Heavy Armor? We did in GW1.
Why can’t Heavy/Medium armors have skirt? No. Just stop.
If you want skimpy armor, there’s always Scarlet Blade, go there. Or there’s always /a/.
Just like how you like non skimpy armor, the OP likes skimpy armor. There’s absolutely nothing that makes your tastes better than his and vice versa. Hence we have something called choice. Its a new concept I know….
This only concerns pve.
Infinite cc by various mobs to death. This must be the cheapest and most shallow mechanic in the game to make the game harder than it actually is.
Also the extremely long cc effects by mobs. A knockback will let you kiss the ground for like a good 3-4 secs. Loosing the ability to control your toon is always frustrating.
Easy fix that has been done before. One in which Anet loves to do….DR. Giver DR to cc effects. Yes….like WoW.
How is two weeks for a living story too short? I think that’s a pretty good time frame for players to finish the content. Not like the content is really hard or that time consuming.
Im more excited about what they are planning for the actual core game. So far, living stories are meh to me. Though they do give them a certain flair that most traditional mmos don’t have. I like the living breathing “world” theory that Anet has done, not for gameplay reasons (I think they are too shallow) but for immersion reasons.
LIMITED EDITION ITEMS
What i liked about GW1 was that even super rare stuff were still available somehow to obtain. Lately in GW2 iam seeing the trend of special items droping during events and then gone forever. I know you want to keep them special for the people that participated in this event but thats what achievement rewards are for right? Why not keep them in game as a super rare drop for special areas and bosses only? If someone wants to grind for along time to obtain them why not let them? Spending so much time designing items and them taking them away sounds such a waste. For example keep the Karka, Reed Drake etc. miniatures as a super rare southsun only drop. Or if the molten alliance dungeon comes back as a fractal keep that awesome looking jet back as a rare drop from that fractal only! That will keep them super limited but still available to the world of Tyria.
Ohh if only they’d do this
I’d feel less angry at missing out events knowing theres still some hope to get stuff …
I am fine with the limited edition items that you only get for that specific living story. What really kitten es me off is the fact that I took a long hiatus from GW2 and the only new armor skin I see in the game is like ONE.
It is extremely puzzling to me as to the reason for this. There really is no gear grind per se in the game…..and the game could potentially be considered a dress up game. So why the hell are there no new skins available in the game after such a long time since release?
Heres my problem with the “living stories”.
For those that have already done everything they wanted in the core game, there is nothing else to do. So before, it took too long for the new content to come out, if Anet can keep their promise of releasing a living story every two weeks, then I think it will be fine.
Its not like they take that much time to finish anyways. I literally today started playing GW2 again and already finished the “Dragon Bash” achievement (I got the wings).
My biggest problem with the living stories is, besides being as shallow as a puddle of water on a table, is thakittens throwaway content. This content does not stay in the game forever (ofc its mostly due to its shallowness). It really reminds me of the holiday specials you usually get with games like WoW, GW1, etc.
So Anet, how about spending your time creating actual REAL content instead of the same thing over and over but with a different skin?
If you notice, all these so called living stories is all about,
1) Going into the middle of lions arch to get main quest.
2) Travelling all over the map to find something for the main quest.
3) Going all around Lions Arch and other maps to find something for the achievement (pumpkin, piñatas, snow mans).
4) Go play some useless pvp mini game which most players do not enjoy.
5) If lucky we get a fun jumping puzzle.
6) Some extremely shallow “dungeon” that has no challenge whatsoever and looks as if the idea was thought out during a days of work)
So unless you are an extremely casual gamer (like playing 2 hrs max a week), im pretty sure that two weeks will be more than enough to finish the “living story” that is currently in the world.
The “problem” with this game is that you do not require to be in a guild to have access to the “best” content in the game.
In a more traditional MMO, like WoW, you needed a guild to do raids. Seldom would players pug raids and if they did, they usually were the easiest ones. So in the process of doing raids and stuff, players would interact with each other and then they would make friends.
GW2 tried to solve the accessibility of the “best” content by getting rid of trinity, no raids, homogenized classes, personal loot table, and dungeons made easier and pug friendly.
The “problem” this caused was that now everyone can do everything. The “solution” Anet came up with was Fractals. Players just cannot pug high level fractals. If they did, it would take a while and with a lower success rate than if you were in a specialized grp inside of a guild. The “problem” to this solution is that, for some unknown reason to me, 90% of players (some made up statistic made by me, merely to mean the “majority”) do NOT like running dungeons of any kind.
So their “fix” created more problems as it is tied to ascended gear.
In summery, Guilds are useless to the current meta game. Its quite ironic as this game is called “GUILD Wars 2”. Give us harder content (GW1 missions come to mind, maybe some GvG pvp?), and mark my words, guilds will suddenly become important again. Until then, they will be nothing more than a “nice to have because I get buffs” thing.
I know this is only for Gw1 players. Technically I did play Gw1, just never did PvP. But Im going to represent a ex WoW player. A diff perspective for you guys.
The PvP in this game, both Spvp and WvW are extremely horrible imo.
I will admit i only played Spvp like only twice. Never came back after that. The game mode wasn’t so much fighting……it was more running around and strategically capturing points and abandoning points. Kind of like a cat and mouse game.
I have stepped into WvW a bunch of times. Always trying to give it a good chance. But in the end, there was just no point to it. I have no clue how anyone could take it seriously….i mean….THERE IS NO WINNER!!! That’s the biggest flaw in the game mode out of a ton of them. Don’t even let me get started on night capping…….
Is it too much to ask for a server to be able to WIPE the other server off the map???
Too bad i quit WoW (would never come back) but i sure do miss the PvP there.
I really have to ask though….at level 80, what exactly do you do if not for running some sort of dungeons?
See, I always thought it weird for the majority of the game’s population to not do dungeons. I see such a small percentage of players actually having some kind of dungeon gear. At the least, im pretty surprised not everyone is running with a piece of CoF gear (since its so easy to do). AC gear is harder to tell since its ugly as sin (so I assume players transmute them), but CoF gear is not bad looking. I DO see CoF gear being the most popular…but what i mean is that the majority of players are running some run of the mill stuff. So i take it that they either haven’t run dungeons or aren’t doing it enough.
It might be that it’s because I came from WoW and dabbled a bit in GW1….but are my tastes that different? I mean, didn’t Gw1 have missions? Wouldn’t that be kind of similar to dungeons?
Sure theres WvW if that’s your thing…..but can you really just do that the entire time?
Im just noticing, theres not a whole bunch of things to do at lvl 80. I feel sad now
OP, go play a Warrior before you come here and qq.
You nerf 100b and then what? What have you solved here? Nothing. In fact, you have created a problem because there will not be warriors in the game anymore.
Its funny because GS Warriors MAIN source of attack is 100b. That’s it. There’s nothing more than that other than auto attack lol.
You realize that those people might had other classes already and thus only missed a Warrior/Thief/Mes in their team?
Some people like to have say 1 guard 1 mes 1 war 1 rang 1 nec, to have a team of unique classes that won’t “overwrite” each other’s things, i.e. two necros is redundant.
Noone wants a ranger in his group
I love rangers; that water field is awesome!
Other than that, they are kinda useless though. They need a buff for PvE.
I main a Shouts Warr and a DD Ele and usually I would rather not take Rangers on a speed run. I never really kick them out of party because im too nice but the real issue does not change.
Workweek just started. Will try to get a pvp footage on weekend or so if I ever get the time. There are lots of Engineer Videos on Youtube, just as coglin said, you just need to search. Try filtering them so you get the latest uploaded videos so you won’t have to search through 5 month+ old outdated videos.
Could I get the spec you are using please? Im no stranger to having to swap “kits” as I am pretty confident I am pretty good at using my DD Ele…at least in Pve.
Previously I leveled my Engi using FT and then once at higher levels, I used a grenadier spec. Then once at level 80, I switched to a static discharge build that left a ton to be desired. So kinda left my Engi collecting dust….
The spec and combos you use seem very interesting and would like to try it. So before you put out a video of your play style, I would like a go at it first.
Wow, you think posters owe you videos? Yet your okay with making statements and claims and offering no video evidence of your own.
Or perhaps there are already videos of what you ask, but you feel you are to good to do any kind of search what so ever and prefer to make rude comments implying posters are intentionally not being helpful simply because they didn’t make a special video just for you and put it on the thread as you demand.
mmm…what videos do you want me to make?
A warrior video?
A DD Ele video?
A Engi video??
And no where did i “demand” to see a video nor did i say they owed me a video. Reading comprehension for the win.
Now you are claiming that i cant do any research whatsoever. What do you think im doing here?? Its BECAUSE i cant find crap in the forums that im here asking for players, who claim to be good at the class, to show me some videos of them playing so i can LEARN.
Aint that hard to understand.
Perhaps you could show me some videos? As i recall, while doing research for good Engi builds and playstyles, you are THE one always saying that Engi’s are good. So how about you do the Engi community a favor and put out a informative video?? If you don’t want to, then that’s fine.
The only way I would see a Zerker Engi work is if you run dungeons with a coordinated team. But then again….whats the point of running a zerker Engi when a Zerker Ele, Zerker Ranger, Zerker Guardian, Zerker Warrior, and Zerker Thief will do SO MUCH more damage than you while surviving better than you??
Sorry, but honestly I see no point. Engis are a full support class while dealing some decent dmg. A good support Engi can be so helpful in higher level fractals.
I disagree. You can easily run AC and CoF paths 1 and 2 on a Zerker build even with a pug group. Also you can stack some 9~12 AoE might and massive AoE heal on a zerker build while dishing out massive damage too. Engineers can offer that much to the table while playing a Zerker build. You probably need to play with engineer skills more. I can’t see how you concluded that an engineer is a full support class when we can do OMFG bursts while supporting at the same time.
And surviving on a zerker build does not depend on whatever class you play but rather on how good you are at dodging.
I would love for you to prove me wrong. So far my Engi is sitting there all pretty gathering dust.
Can i get a video of you playing a dungeon please? I have seen some WvW videos and the most impressive i saw was the tankat video. Amazing player, but felt that he could have done even better with another class.
Ofc Im not just asking for a video for proof, im also asking for a video so i can take a look at your play style. Obviously my play style with the Engi is no good…..
Could you also please link me your fav build for PvE and high level fractals please. I think its time to dust off the dust from my Engi. Putting your armor, sigils, etc would also be extremely nice.
Thanks
Help me save time.
CoF Paths 1 + 2 and AC are the easiest dungeons in the game. All attacks from the bosses here are relatively easy to dodge. There are probably no arguments here.
How can you stack 9~12 might or do AoE massive healing or get 8+ seconds of AoE Stealth while in Zerker Build?
Learn to use Combo Fields and Combo Finishers.
Big ’Ol Bomb(1) + Detonate Healing Turret(2) + Detonate Rifle Turret(3) + Land Mine(4) + Supply Crate(5) are all blast finishers that compliment each other and can sustain good DPS.
- Fire Field from Fire Bomb or Napalm will give you 15 stacks of Might
- Water Field from Regenerating Mist will give you 5 AoE heals
- Smoke Field from Smoke Bomb will give you around 10 secs AoE stealth. This can be applied mostly on PvE scenarios since monsters move less than players.
More Tips:
You want to immobilize your target for more than 8 seconds along with 20~25 stacks of vulnerability?
- Get 10 Firearms and trait for Sitting Duck which gives (5) Vulnerability per Immobilize.
- Fire Net Shot(5) from your rifle or a Glue Shot from your P/P
- Fire Net Wall(5) from your Toolbelt Skill.
- Drop your Net Turret and Overcharge it. It will shoot 2 consecutive nets which gives another (10) stacks of Vulnerability. If it’s in PvE, make sure your taget has Aggro on you
- If you have a bomb kit with you, you can drop a Glue Bomb as well for another (5) stacks of vulnerability. That’s (25) stacks already.
- You can still get Utility Goggles and use Analyze for another (10) stacks and that’s a total of 35 stacks of vulnerability along with a very long immobilize.Using Net Shot, Net Wall, dropping Net Turret and overcharging it should take you about 3~4 seconds.
I’m not an elite engineer but I know how to play my cards well. This class has gone through a kittenhole but I stuck with it and learned to be resourceful to cover up for the class’ shortcomings. I found it inappropriate when you said engineer is a Full Support Class without even making a good argument. Yes, this class is broken at most but we’re starting to get good fixes from Anet. Hopefully good things will come.
Come on Kyon, you can explain it to me in written form all you like but I wont get it as much as seeing it. Im a extremely good visual learner but not that much when reading it.
You are in a place where you can help a lot of struggling Engi’s like myself. Please note that there are absolutely NO informative video guides for Engi’s in the forums. Specially for PvE. I learned this way for my DD Ele, and also watched some videos for Warriors….although Warriors are very straight forward.
I thank you for the time you have spent typing this up, but I would love if you would create a guide based on your playstyle. This, ofcourse including dungeon runs etc. I hate when players just stand in front of golems and attack them.
The video don’t have to be today. Just when you got some time. Obviously it would be ideal any time within a week or so.
snip
My grenade autos are hitting for 1.2k per grenade once the vuln gets going. Before bleeds. And before I start rotating everything. I’m not gonna go through the trouble of making a video and breaking down a complex class piece by piece, but I will give you a skeleton:
30/10/0/0/30
Shrapnel, 10% more explosion damage, grenadier
20% CDR on rifle skills
Refined Kits, 20% toolkit CDR, 50% endurance regen
Full berserker gear, precision sigil on rifle until 25 stacks, then swap to flame sigil.
Just rotate your hard hitting skills. You have more than any D/D ele and the longest cooldown is 21 seconds as opposed to 45. Jump Shot alone deals more damage in such a small time frame than any channeled ele ability. You don’t bring eles into groups for damage, you bring them for 25 might stacks + burning (assuming a guardian doesn’t have this covered already), and maybe a splash of healing given the offhand dagger. Any damage that happens from therein (which isn’t bad damage, just not competing with a smart engineer) is just gravy.
DD Ele if specced right and geared right does tons of dmg. Not only that, i run a aurashare build which gives support to all allies. Plus, like you mentioned, give might to everyone. Not sure if you have played one yourself.
Now, im not really interested in a glass cannon Engi. If you don’t want to give me a video of you playing then that’s fine. I will ask Kyon for it as it seems like hes more willing to help other players.
The only thing that’ll do more damage is a zerker warrior when you’re playing zerker engineer correctly. Thieves only start dealing notable damage at < 25% when heartseeker ramps up on bosses, and before that their best single target damage comes from sword. Thief sustain is pretty terrible outside of when there’s only 2 enemies to deal with and you have a shortbow. Ranger has the same issue – except he has /no/ good direct damage at any point. The only time I might say otherwise is if they could run cat pets without said felines being gibbed by bosses. But they can’t, so it’s a moot point. Zerker guardian used to be outstanding pre-patch, as their 30/30/0/0/10 build with spirit weapons was outstanding in the DPS / support department, alongside engineer. 10% more damage while burning, 10% damage while they had a condition, etc. Sword for bosses, greatsword for mobs. But the spirit weapon nerf was a serious kick in the nuts – they’re still great, don’t get me wrong, but they’re not on par with a properly played engineer. I’m not even going to explain what’s wrong with someone trying to run berserker elementalist. I’ll just sum it up with ‘Engineers spend 2-3 seconds waiting for another good ability to come off cooldown, while either a D/D elementalist spends 8-10, or a scepter/dagger spends 4 seconds doing no damage’.
A good berserker engineer will be juggling tool kit, grenade kit, elixir gun, and their rifle skills to constantly bust out one hard hitting skill after another. There’s at least 2 abilities from every one of those kits that do good damage, and you’re not giving up utility. Double super elixirs, magnet, gear shield, blind / poison grenade, even Vent Healing Mist, all outstanding tricks you can bust out without sacrificing damage.
Same as what i asked Kyon.
Please link me a video of you doing some dungeons. I want to see how you play your engineer. The best way i can learn is to see it for myself.
Please link me your build, armor, sigils, etc.
Ps, your wrong about a DD Ele. I have first hand experience as i play one myself. Its like my secondary toon next to my Warrior. If you attunement swap correctly, you will hardly have to wait for a “big” skill. Plus, if i somehow messed up my rotations….my air attunement auto attack deals ~1000 and hits twice….or it should at least.
Thanks.
Thanks
Adding 100 toughness will mitigate direct damage by 100/armor.
Adding power, or precision, or crit damage will modify your (averaged over time) damage as a percentage by
Effective Power = Power * (1 + Crit% * (1/2 + CritDmg/100))
divided by your Attack and modified by the weapon coefficient.
Note that with 0 CritDmg it takes 2% of Crit% to add 1 more % of damage. At 50 CritDmg you get 1% more damage (over time) for 1% more Crit. And with 100 CritDmg it’s 1.5% more damage for every 1% of crit% (so double from 50 only gives 50% improvement per point. Yay for linear formulas.) If you can get CritDmg high enough it pays off to switch to Crit% as the main way to introduce more damage.
Off the top of my head something like 10/20/5/5/30 using Rifle, Rifle Turret, and Net Turret (static dischargers) with valkyrie/beryl trinkets, knights armor, perhaps zerker weapons, power based runes, guild assassins (or better) backpack, and power/crit food of your choice should optimize us for direct damage with enough vit and tough not to blow over in a strong breeze.
I tried running a static discharge build (before recent patch) with gear similar to what you wrote except for the food. It was sad and useless. Dmg was below many classes and survivability was pretty bad.
Bezerk warriors are far from having the highest DPS in the game. So far…
In fact, the combination mesmer + ranger + elementalist can easily outnumber them. Rangers have several traits which increase melee damage by an significant amount, mesmers have their timewarp elite and elementalists can contribute a conjured weapon, the fiery greatsword.
Under the effect of timewarp, the elementalist and the ranger can deal ~15k / 20k DPS (not single hits, but constant DPS! The ranger has higher damage due to traits) AoE damage over the course of ~30-40 seconds.
Having a necromancer who heals and converts condition to boons also leads to a survivability which exceeds that of an average bezerk zerg by far.
Whenever I’m being able to choose my party members, i prefer mixed groups. My least favorite classes are actually warrior and thief. Latter one because they can hardly contribute to the group but are mostly focused on 1vs1, and warriors because they have so little to contribute to the group in comparison to other classes with only having shouts and the nasty decision of EITHER dealing massive damage OR causing combo finishers / CC.
You need to play with better warriors then. Gs Warriors are the highest dps in PvE in the game. While that alone could possibly be fine, they can also take a lot of punishment (if the build is right) while they do dmg. I think that’s a good thing. It embodies the soul of a Warrior. Other classes need to be buffed in order to provide what the Warrior provides in a different manner.
As for your last point. Their contribution to the group is exactly that, BIG dmg and shouts. Why else do you think THE most popular set up for most dungeons are 4 warriors and a Mesmer? That’s because they don’t need no stinking “support” skills. Their support to the group comes in their HIGH dps. After all, why use “support” skills when the mob is already dead???
That said, high level fractals are different though. An all Warrior + 1 Mesmer grp might not be the best set up.
I think warrior with a rifle can do damage not less than the Ranger with a pet. As for the “right of control”, you did try? Pet has “inhibited” reaction to commands, and often runs through AoE, where it can be avoided. In the end, he dies on his own stupidity and not the fault of the owners. In addition pupils are not trying to go behind his back to the enemy, from which die in the melee of Cleve. Ranged pets are weak and “skew”. In the end, it turns out, that the warrior the best… ranger in distance fighting too.
Never, in my memory, I have problems with the removal of conditions on warrior or reducing the distance to the target. The idea of ??design certainly works – a warrior stronger in close combat tham ranged. But it does not work quite right. Since the ranged warrior is not worse than the other classes. But melee – it’s much better then others.
I think the developers need to either warrior nerf or buff other classes. I think it is wrong, when after playing warrior or guardian for any other class, clearly felt that this class is definitely worse.
No nerfs. Nerfs only serve to detract from the fun. Other classes really need to be buffed in pve. This is from a player who has a Shouts Warr, DD Ele, and ?wth im i suppose to do with his???? Engi.
I do not want to play Guild Warriors 2.
Warriors are the most balanced PvE class in the game. Meaning that they excel in most any PvE situation Anet has created.
I have had 7 minute CoF path 1 runs (not even that fast compared to the zerker warrior groups)with a grp of 3 warriors, 1 guardian (support/dps) and a Mesmer. My warrior is not even a zerker warrior (a shouts warrior is way better imo)….dunno what the other warriors were running.
Classes I like to avoid when doing a “speed run” of any dungeons are Glass Ele’s, Engis of any kind, Ranger of any kind and Necro’s of any kind. Why?
Glass Eles are usually staff. The way I see it, if you are not gonna be able to provide “distraction” of a mob, then your dps better be the highest I have ever seen….which is not the case. A shouts warrior can out dps them AND at the same time “tank” without dying. How should I explain this better? If 5 players attack 5 mobs….in theory 1 mob is to 1 player. But a glass Ele cant take one mob plus they are ranged. So now, its 5 mobs to 4 players. The same applies to the other classes I mentioned….except Engi’s….they just so bad.
Now before I get jumped on. Out of all the times I have run dungeons, there was only ONE time where I ran with a Staff Ele that was good (so there ARE good ones out there…..close to extinction though). Most of the time though, they are pretty bad. So rather than take my chances, I would take a decent Aurashare DD Ele.
For Rangers, in my experience, its always been meh. Never notice them when in battle….just notice more mobs on me. Never notice that things go quicker though, rather…..runs go slower due to less dps overall.
Necros and Engis are mostly extinct so I have no need to explain.
Take notice though, this is only when i want a “speed run”. When I don’t, then I have done and finished dungeons in all kinds of diff class set ups. Its mostly up to the player skill and knowledge of the fights.
PvP though….a WHOLE diff story. Warriors are pretty middle of the line.
“Study Wow’s Alterac Valley”
That is the worst idea I have seen in this game. Alterac valley is kitten. I played quite afew timeas and everytime the players just drive past each other and spend the entire time doing pve instead of pvp. Do you seriously want to study this to get good idea because should just be a pve dungeon because that what is mostly is.
I enjoyed AV a ton more than WvW. WvW is so boring, each time I step into it, I fall asleep or want to drive nails into my head.
Ofc if AV was played in a manner not intended, like you explained, it is quite boring. Though weird as the countless hours I played that map, that never happened to me. Must have been your server. If the game was played as intended, it was super fun. In fact, it was one of the most popular PvP modes in WoW.
Now, I did say “study”, I did not say make a carbon copy of it. That’s just a disgrace and would throw it in Anets face. I want them to study what made it so fun and learn the pitfalls it had.
I guarantee you that if Anet were to release a FUN pvp mode of CTF, AV style attack/defend, or whatever other mode there is….WvW would be a wasteland.
Top ten-
1)Fix major profession bugs. CANNOT do step 2 if this is not done.
2)Balance all professions. This does NOT mean to just nerf everything.
3)Bring back GW1 missions.
4)Overhaul dungeons
5)Add new dungeons.
6)Add a TON more sword and armor skins. In a game where max gear stats is almost free…..you gotta give the players a carrot, otherwise they stop playing.
7)Add new PvP modes that use the same gear as PvE but you have your own separate build you can have like Spvp. I would look into CTF, attack/defend modes, and study WoW’s Alterac Valley. No repair fees.
8)LFG tool.
9)Have veteran and Champion mobs give consistently higher level quality items with a rare chance of getting something amazing.
10)Anet will be out of business if I do not take care of the gem shop. Various special skins, that look good, will be released. BL chests will include better loot (I will make players excited at what they will get, like a child opening a Christmas present). If my players seem scammed after opening a chest, I will NOT have repeat customers. Common sense business tells me that repeat customers are better than ripping them off for a quick buck. BL chests will probably rise a bit in price though.
I would get rid of the borderlands maps and just keep EB. Why? and this has been my complaint since beta. The amount of players who are allowed to enter a WvW map at the same time is too low compared to how much real state there is. So get rid of borderlands maps and boost the cap for EB (prob 2.5x).
Next is a three part fix.
1) Make it so that there IS a point to play WvW. Meaning that there is an actual winner at the end. Just because I have higher number than you is not winning. Wiping your server COMPLETELY off the map is winning. This makes WvW more competitive and serious.
2)I would take a look at if keeping the current 3 server system works. My guess is that it probably wouldn’t. Alliances will ruin the game mode. So only have a 2 server system where they directly face off. This also has the indirect impact that you can allow more players per server in a match up using the same server capacity.
3) Take a long hard look at how long I would want the match up to last. The current 2 weeks would not work. I would make it so that match ups could not last longer than a couple of days, though match ups can finish as short as a couple of hours if a server dominates the other. Once a match up finishes, a new match up will start in about an hour or so, so that servers can get ready.
At this point, I would probably play around with having parallel match ups if the amount of players who want to play WvW exceeds the capacity of current servers.
This is just a broad overview of my idea. There are a ton of details and stuff that needs to be tweaked and changed for my idea to work. I would not put it here as it would be too much writing.
If you look at my post history, you will see that there are a LOT of things I do not like about the game. However, the “grinding” required in this game is not one of them.
If we assume that exotic armor is THE best armor you can get, then the grind is not even a “grind”. Let’s pretend that you somehow only have 1g by the time you have reached lvl 80…..play x amount of dungeons and get your full set of exotic armor via the dungeon tokens and the gold you have acquired through running the dungeons.
Ascended gear is a different beast. Its made for players who like doing dungeons at a higher difficulty. They asked for end game and that’s what they got. What else can possibly be end game if not for new dungeons? Higher difficulty comes better rewards. Though those rewards are now being trickled down so that ALL players can get them if they put in the time. Nothing is free….not even in real life. Otherwise there is no purpose of even playing the game.
Why do you think the games like Call of Duty are so popular? Partly is because you get to unlock various different skills and weapons. They are unlocked through playing the game.
See, I have played WoW for about a year and a half. The grind there was a REAL grind. The exotics grind in GW2 is kids play compared to WoW. We all seem to forget that in other traditional MMO’s, we have to Need/Greed for items that drop. I honestly cannot go back to such a system.
The complain I have though, is that there is truly a lack of armor/weapon skins for players to grind. Right now, there are dungeon, Cultural armor/weapons and Legendary Weapons. There are some nice craftable weapons in between (like the corrupted weapons). That’s it. Its like you have the two ends of the spectrum but you have no middle ground. Its either really easy (Cultural, Dungeon) or really hard (Legendary).
This is one of the funniest videos I have seen on youtube. Ofc prob only funny to those who play/ed an engi.
+over 9000.
Hope Anet employees take a look at the video.
I will make it simple to replicate this. Keep doing this and you are bound to run into the problem. I have ran into this problem many times and have to kill Detha for her to reset and unglitch.
When she is about to or while talking to the ghost in last part, if she detects an enemy (this means the oozes outside if you ran through without killing them), she WILL go and attack it. Whether she wins the fight or not, she WILL glitch 90% of the time.
This glitch is fine. No worries. I can fix it.
You know what pisses me off? The glitch with path 1 NOT finishing after killing the last boss. I tried everything and it does not trigger the end. So I get no loot. Happened to me twice already. Please fix. I think it started happening since last patch.
