Can someone here post their gear, stats, and build please?
I find it hard to believe that you guys are actually doing well with an Engi. I will have to see it to believe it in this case. It can just be me that I am en extremely incompetent Engi player.
I am currently running at static charge build. I guess it would be considered a glass cannon build. I am running all rare gear, green trinkets, and exotic rifle. I went to run AC exp to test out the build…..what I found? Sadness. Why? cuz it was just sad that its actually called a build. A LOT less dmg, survivability, boons, support than both my DD Ele and HB Warr.
You know whats funny? My Engi has ALMOST as much power as my HB warrior has…yet its dmg output does not EVEN compare. Now, the only way to get that much power and precision (41%) was to almost have no vit and toughness. My Warrior (has exotics but the point still remains) has MORE power, prec, and a crap ton more of vit and toughness than my Engi. Same for my DD Ele.
So that’s why, I want to see it to believe it. Please, any of you who think Engi is a good class, give me a youtube video of you playing a dungeon.
Reason I ask for a dungeon run is because WvW is a mix of a lot of diff player skills. What I want to see is how much dmg you are doing. What kind of support you are doing. What boons you are giving to the party.
I’ve seen the Tankat build in action. Amazing player but nothing impressive compared to other classes. I believe the tankat builds main dmg is confusion……just ignore him in the battlefield and /laugh lol.
Im talking only PvE as the current PvP options in this game are boring as kitten imo so I hardly play them.
My two main toons are a DD Ele (aurashare) and a HB Warrior. I’ve already given up on my level 80 Engineer. (Anet, how about you give us Engis a bone?)
As far as my DD Ele goes, I do not mind if Anet nerfs my AoE AS LONG as you buff my single target dmg. Otherwise, no, I do not need a nerf. I am, and I’m sure many players are, in a situation where we can compare the effectiveness of the classes in Pve first hand since we play multiple toons.
Just comparing my fully geared DD Ele to my fully geared HB Warrior….there is no contest in the amount of effectiveness the HB Warrior has over the DD Ele. How do I notice this? Dungeons go a LOT faster when I am playing with my HB warrior than with my DD Ele no matter the grp make up. That is taking into consideration that my DD Ele is a lot more offensively built than the vanilla DD build since I do not need that much survivability as I do not play PvP. My air autoattack does ~1000 dmg per hit.
But lets not take my word for it. THE BEST set up for dungeons right now, is basically 4 Warriors and a Mesmer (For harder dungeons, prob replace one Warrior for a Guardian). Try it out. Its amazing what raw power and survivability can do. Forget about dumb auras and boons that my DD Ele provides. Warriors can buff themselves via shouts and destroy everything.
You know what I think when I get a Necro, Engi and Staff Ele in a dungeon grp? Oh gawd, this run is going to be slower and I will have to cover their butts.
So once again…..how is AoE overpowered? For AoE classes, buff single target dmg or no nerf.
If I would have to pick one out of the MOST annoying things for me….it would definitely be night capping. Its a HUGE problem because its not only “night capping” per se…..its night plus day too.
If a server caps all during the night….then that means that during the day, lets just say “day” starts at 8-9 AM, then people are either at work or school. So that means that the server who was night capping, has mostly everything capped until most people start getting home from work or school. Meaning until about 5-7 PM.
Then lets say people push back the night capping server back until probably 11-12 night time…..then go to sleep…..night capping server then gets everything again. Its a vicious cycle and then you start not to care anymore.
Bottom line, WvW has to have a time cut off limit. Shut off at certain time of the night based on the average of the three server times and open it up again at a certain time of the day.
OR
What I would prefer, make a PvP mode similar to WvW, but on a MUCH smaller scale.
Have two or three servers against each other; Anet can decide.
Limit the amount of players per server, maybe 60 each.
Make it that a server can actually win.
This of course would be an instanced PvP game you can join (meaning, multiple sessions of this mode can happen that the same time, like any other PvP mode).
Have tokens drop after each game ends so that you can exchange for equipment.
It would be a dream come true if this mode were to be implemented…..seeing the lack of interesting PvP modes in Gw2 is such a downer.

Thanks.
After a long hiatus from the game, I came to the Engi forum hoping that the class had been fixed. SURPRISED!! Nothing has changed except for a nerf to the class!! Awesome.
I personally think Orr is fine as is BUT could use a really nice coat of polish gameplay wise. I mean, there really is nothing interesting there for players besides completing the maps and main story.
In my server, there is seldom any players there, so all the events cannot be done with only 2-3 players.
I think what Orr needs, is more interesting things to do there and have the rewards be equivalent to the time spent and/or difficulty. As it is now, after completing Orr, there really is no reason to go back.
I mean, you COULD get a group to farm nodes and items but then….that’s just plain boring.
I mostly agree with the article. Specially DE’s being lacking and group dynamics within a dungeon being a clusterfest.
If you look at my past posting history, I keep ranting for Anet to introduce mission quests a la GW1. This will fill the much needed hole in PVE.
I also wish the there was more structure in dungeon play.
I agree with everything you have posted. It will make the game feel more “polished”…..something that is missing right now.
I would also like to add: Make a pvp mode that is between Spvp and WvW. Something like Capture the Flag, Huttball (SWTOR), Alterac Valley (WoW). Obviously not a straight copy from those, but something that is similar and that works with GW2 combat system.
Reason i ask this is because players who do not like the current Spvp, Tpvp, or WvW are pretty much screwed. Before the fanboys jump on me, which i know there are many in the forums, it is not that the current PvP modes are “bad”, simply i do not enjoy them. Afterall, various pvp modes can coexist together and the more modes you have, the bigger the player base you can get.
The two things, or maybe three things i enjoyed the most in order of being the most fun for me.
1)Mad King Tower. If only the rest of the jumping puzzles were anywhere near as exhilarating and fun as this one. I hope many more puzzles are released that are similar to this one.
2)Halloween decorations. The art team has done a OUTSTANDING job at it.
3)Halloween weapon skins.
I would like to mention that I liked the Halloween weapon skins but NOT the way in which you got them. It was a RNG mess. My GF was lucky enough to get it and gave it to me, since she did not use a greatsword. Next time, please put SOME weapons on the cash shop, SOME weapons that are extremely RARE to find in chests, and SOME weapons that you can get through hard work. Then no one will complain about the RNG mess that was this Halloween.
The rest of the stuff was, imo, pretty lame and lackluster. That includes the Mad King dungeon.
To be honest, you didnt miss much except for the achievement and title. The dungeon itself was lackluster and boring.
My biggest beef with titles in this game is that they are, for all intents and purposes, hidden from view. Since GW2 allows for really long names, something which i think is awesome, the title should be placed underneath the name to avoid making the names even longer.
As for the lack of titles, yes, they are too little. Im hoping that either the big content patch on November will add more of the expansion will have them. Overall though, there are much bigger fish to fry right now than titles.
I dont know if its the same glitch, but one time, i jumped after window broke and it teleported me back to beginning. Only happened once though.
Easy enough once you get the hang of it. I would say that if there arent any players who are jumping it at the exact same speed and time as i am, my success rate is about 75%-80% with my Charr.
I started farming it for the Halloween bags.
The only thing i will complain about is that this should be a solo instance. Its extremely hard to do this with other people blocking your screen. Otherwise, the difficulty is spot on. This really reminds me of old school games…..oh boy have i been rusty.
I started this pretty late at night with my eyes being already pretty tired. I should be able to get it when im not so tired.
Challenging is fun even if im never ever going to beat it….though i will eventually
ok, so let me get this right.
RARE
1. Infrequently occurring; uncommonGAMBLE
1. A bet, wager, or other gambling venture.
2. An act or undertaking of uncertain outcome; a risk: I took a gamble that stock prices would rise.So people spent their money to gamble on a rare skin, knowing that the % would be very low (if everybody had one it wouldn’t be rare)
The because people complained on the forum they go back and pretty much make a new gamble using trash stuff. And again (you shouls know it is still a low %) people didn’t get what they wanted so AGAIN we complain on the forum.
Tomorrow ANet will just mail everyone a voucher for a skin or put them on the BLTC, so that EVERYONE will have this RARE skin…..
I myself spent $50 dollars on keys and didn’t get squat, I then used my tonics and boosts to make MKCs and got a few crafting mats…I moved on and am playing the game happily because I knew it was a GAMBLE to begin with.Have we noticed the usage of RARE & GAMBLE
Please show everyone on these forums where the store or patch notes say the chance is rare. Please do. I can tell you many of my guildmates do not come to the forums at all and believe the chests are bugged – not that the chance is rare since nowhere in game does it tell anyone that, even to this day with the new Mad King Chests.
This whole fix is commonly known as “rubbing salt in the wound”.
Do people not get the concept, they are rare weapon skins that are being gambled for.
If you go to a casino and play games and they are having a drawing for say a car. You should know that the % of you actually winning money or the car is going to be low.
Gambling means that usually the odds are stacked against you. I have seen plenty of people linking that they got the skins. So the chests can’t be bugged.Nor did I say ANet said the chance was rare, it is a rare item for a reason. If everyone could win one why post it as a rare…that is my point.
Show me where in Anets advertising of the game, including all interviews and official blogs about GW2 does it mention that GAMBLING would be part of the game. If you can’t show me that, seriously leave this thread.
Are you going to argue to me that “other” games do this also? Mainly korean/asian made mmo’s? Then Anet SHOULD make it CLEAR that it is their intention to do so. It makes it easier for everyone. Those who do NOT like it, can leave the game. Including myself.
Will you now argue to me that those are “vanity” items and not needed? Sorry to burst your bubble but those “vanity” items ARE THE ENDGAME. There is absolutely NOTHING to look forward to once you have completed all the content that you wanted to play. To summarize, in case you did not get it, you play the game in ORDER to get those vanity items. If you can’t or not allowed to, then its game over. I will bet you over 90% of current player population will tell you that they keep playing the game FOR the vanity items.
I also wanted to add that to people comparing this to TF2….its not comparable at all.
TF2 is a FPS. You cannot even see your character except for when you get CC’ed. The game first and foremost is not about the looks of your character, but your own skills.
This game is different. MMO’s are different. Most mmos are nothing but a beauty pageant. Even in WoW where “supposedly” you grind for better stats, 90% of players get them because of the looks. Otherwise they would not show it off at the main towns. In GW2, this is basically the ONLY end game. Its all about your looks. And its such a disappointment precisely because of the lack of armor variety. I honestly dont know what Anet is doing anymore.
With this, i hope more players stop buying gems from the cash shop (to affect change, not out of malice). I personally spent 40 bucks the first month the game came out BECAUSE i wanted to support the game. After seeing how they “beautifully” handled post launch support. It was easy for me to stop spending REAL money on the game and play for “free”.
I was SO READY to spend my cash again for some nice Halloween ARMOR and WEAPONS after the whole DR debacle…..but now Anet doesnt even offer it to me and instead chose the greed route.
Sorry but i do NOT feel like this event is any fun at all. It is completely underwhelming to what im used to compared to GW1 and WoW. It seems like Anet tried really hard to force us to use the cash shop for this holiday event. In fact, i never thought i would say this, but im starting to miss the subscription model. At least, getting items in those kind of games required “good” effort and not “slave level” effort.
What seems MOST worrying for me is this. Anet had the chance to put all those unique skins and what not in the Cash Shop. Honestly, why the hell did they not do it?? I would even argue that they would have killed two birds with one stone.
1)Reduce the amount of gold that rich players have.
2)Earn a ton of money through micro transactions from the rest who do not have enough gold to trade for gems.
Though i know why they didnt do it that way. Its simple. Its GREED.
Its pretty worrying that Anet is heading in that direction. You will not see a cent from me until i see you have gotten your greed under control. Anet, i will keep on playing this game for free with your own money maintaining your servers and staff. If the game never changes, you will still not see any extra money from me. If the game closes down, i will feel no loss.
@Stevoli
Your words not mines! I think what you are so obviously trying to get at is that raids are just a zerg fest, which is completely true. Tbh, i rather have organized zerg fests than a mindless one. At least Anet can make it more challenging. Though that is not the purpose. Anet needs to make battles where a big amount of players participate into NOT zerg fests through gameplay additions and/or changes.
@Raf
I will ignore your smartass remark as i have found it to be futile to argue with internet warriors, fanboys, or w/e you may be.
If you find the current implementation of “world raids” to be fun, then all the power to you. Anet has successfully made a gameplay mechanic that suits you. That said, the game was not only made for players like you. GW2 has many different types of players and it is my believe that Anet has tried to appeal to as many type of players as possible. So if hypothetically Anet makes raids similar to what i suggested, you are very much welcome NOT to do those. That type of content is not for you. You however are VERY welcome to KEEP doing world bosses and future world bosses Anet will add to the game.
Also, it seems like you read what you want to read. When i say “player x”, it doesnt mean that “x” is a specific name. It means that it can be any random player. That includes you and me and every single player in the game. If YOU “create” a raid game and you want to do gear check, i will simply refuse to join your game and go with a different one. Simple? Yah, i thought so.
-Raid style dungeons: 2-4 group dungeons. Teams are great in WvW, but I would love to have it implemented in PvE in some way.
-More class specific armours: A lot of armours are focused toward generalized views of those armours. Guardians really don’t have a set of armour that really matches their class, engineers often have ranger or assassin styled armours. More diverse options would be nice.
-True drop specialities: What this means is, certain bosses could drop loot specific to them. Nothing special in stats, but special in visuals. Something similar to Legendary weapons in look. I killed zhaitan, get a special shoulder armour for example.
-Preview in Auction House. Nuff said.
-In-game marriage. I made my points in the thread.
-Dungeon queueing: I feel like the group/dungeon dynamic is an out of date mechanic standing in LA or outside the dungeon broadcasting yourself, and the LFG function is somewhat hidden. I think we need a queue system that will automatically group people for a dungeon.
These are just my thoughts and views. I LOVE this game and look forward to being here during its growth. Does anyone else have thoughts on it? Something they didnt expect?
Raids are meh. I prefer open-world raids over dungeon crawler raids.
Class Specific armors would be nice.
‘Drop Specialties’… not even sure where to stand on this. On one hand it sounds neat. on the other… well. Look at Magic find? I don’t want dungeons to go all WoW with having to run them 100+ times due to RNG. Tokens are guaranteed. Drops aren’t.
AH previews are needed. No doubt.
In game marriage.. don’t really care either way.
LFG auto-queue? Not a fan of that idea. I’ve seen what they tend to do to games.
But have you seen any of the open world boss fights which are essentially “open world raids”? They are boring as hell. But they cannot be anything other but that. In open world, you cant have organization, so Anet is VERY limited in what they can and cannot do in a “open world raid”.
When i used to play WoW a few years back….i LOVED raids….but at the same time i HATED them. I loved them because they were fun as hell….i hated them because just trying to get all the players and right classes was a big pain in the butt if you were not in a good guild. GW2 does not have one of the problems, as technically there is no holy trinity. So the only problem left would be how to get enough people to get into the raid. I believe having a system like spvp, where there is a lobby for people to automatically go in would be the best solution.
So in more detail here is my idea:
Player x wants to run x raid.
Player x creates a “game”
This creates a joinable “game” in the lobby
Player x can password it or make it open for all
@Knote,
I wholeheartedly agree with you. The only optional long term carrot is Legendaries for players who have reached 80. I do not want the game to become something that people just log on to because they felt like it. I want people to be really hooked with the Gw2 universe….and that requires many carrots.
My problem with difficulty is that its all over the place and does NOT scale well with varying amount of players. One time i fought a Champion spider with a friend. The difficulty was PERFECT for the two of us. It was freaking challenging but not impossible. I would argue that this specific boss would have been soooo BORING with more than 3 players.
The problem Anet has run into is “what can you do when there are x amount of players?” Do you scale up health? Done. Do you scale up dmg? Done to a extend, but if you do it too much, you end up one shotting players. I guess its a matter of fine balancing. Though i believe Anet needs to find a different way to give us more challenge when there are above x amount of players. Ofcourse, loot should also increase with the increased difficulty…which doesnt right now. Champions giving you garbage loot lol.
For me, the bottom line is this:
If you were NOT expecting anything from GW2, like, never heard about GW2 before you bought it, then its a solid game.
If you were following GW2 since the beginning….then its a MASSIVE disappointment. Not because its complete garbage, but because the underlying game is THERE, Anet just needs to refine it, change what doesnt work, and add stuff. Their after launch support has also been completely dismal. Sometimes i question whether that same team that was responsible for making the game are in charge of fixing, adding content, changing content, etc.
Or it could be as simple as….we put too much faith and expectations on Anet. Maybe this is the best they can do.
Im not a very “competitive” pvp player in the sense that i would ever go to tournaments. I however do enjoy PvP in any kind of game….again…just not to the ultra competitive level.
I think the only way for spvp to take off as a e-sport would be to separate PvP and PvE stats. Thats the very basic….if they cant do that, it will never take off.
My “community” in Darkhaven is pretty cool. If you are down, most will try to revive you. Pretty nice and friendly…..except for in WvW. Though that can be expected as there really is no real “leader” out there and everyone has different opinions as to what should be done.
That said, i truly HATE how Anet has implemented game features that do NOT help to foster community at all.
-DE’s are nothing more than a race to tag all mobs and afterwards leave.
-Heart quests essentially boil down to every man for himself.
-Dungeons, imo, arent the most popular.
So really, the only thing that helps foster “community” is reviving players and the fact that there is no mob stealing.
I know this game is still new, but i cant help but to think that Anet missed the mark big time on this. Moving forward, I would like Anet to implement “missions” ala GW1 and other things to foster better community; a closer community.
IF this was my first MMORPG ever, after playing to lvl 80, i would think that all mmo’s are antisocial.
OP, the only reason you barely see any engis, my self included, is because they are extremely underperforming in PvE. I my self have one to almost lvl 80…..i just gave up on it and playing with my lvl 80 warrior now.
I have also tried Necro, Ele, Guardian, and the other class that is close to effective as the warrior is the Guardian. The other classes are sorely lacking.
Let us all band together and ask Anet to split Pve and PvP stats. It will make for a better and healthy game in the long run.
This bug still not fixed? I passed by that area like a week ago….and also made my ears bleed. Its as if his voice is right next to you and he repeats the kitten thing in like 10 second intervals.
The problem is that the difficulty is all over the place…..even if you ARE playing content of the same level as you.
There are definitely some hard DE’s…..but most of it is pretty easy with some being just medium difficulty.
Yup, in events, all i do is play the “tag all mobs before they die” game. It gets pretty hectic when everyone is playing the same “game” and it turns into a race.
Nice vid, arguably one of the best engineers i have seen. Even though i hate the engi with all the bugs, watching you play makes me want to play my engi again.
I can only speak about PvE…
My only advice for you is to leave your engi in a corner and roll a different class until Anet decides to fix the class.
My main two problems with the class:
1) Bugs
2) Jack of all trades but master of none. It literally does NOT excel in anything that other classes can do….and do it better.
My personal favorite thing about the class:
1)Backpacks. I love how my toon looks with the backpacks equipped.
If you only want to play them in SPvP, i guess they are in a good spot from what i have read.
Only talking about pve.
Still waiting for 90% of the skills for engi to be reliable….which they are NOT.
I quit using rifle because:
Net shot is 8/10 reliable
Blunderbuss skill is 4/10 reliable
Overcharged skill….really? I land on my butt…….enough said.
Jumpshot skill just sucks. Too slow while jumping, waaay too slow while landing and any cc will cancel it…meaning, its unreliable. Edit* I wanted to add that this skill should NOT be a targetable skill. It should automatically go attack the selected target. I waste so much time just using the skill to make it worth it.
I quit using Flamethrower because:
Skill #1: Misses a lot. It helps when you aim it with your camera but it should be more reliable.
Skill#2: For the amount of dmg it does…lol. If it was a insta kill skill…..then i would say its fine how unreliable it is. Also, it completely does NOT fit with the other flamethrower skills. Do i want to keep my targets at range or at medium distance?? The FT has personality disorders.
Skill#3: 7/10 reliable. How can I play like this?
Skill#4: Its on a extremely long cooldown for the amount of dmg it does. Which means its unreliable. This need a CD of 15 seconds MAX.
Skill#5:Only works when i stand where i put the smoke and its a really short duration skill.
Bombs: They should do more dmg than grenades since you can literally only put them at your feet. Meaning that you can only do a single task with them…..support. Their only saving grace is that you can trait for them to heal you and allies. Though they probably should heal for more.
Grenades: Arguably the best “weapon” the engi has. But also arguably the most boring and painful one too. Even then….grenades suck for single or double target dmg. A warrior 100b attack laughs at grenades when faced with 4-5 enemies at a time.
Party buffs: Random….enough said.
Anet: Fix the Engineer class please. I will be playing my Warrior in the meantime.
(edited by Caramel Ham.4891)
Fact is….PvE ALWAYS suffers because of PvP. Its never the other way around. Just take a look at the recent “nerfs” that Anet has done. They do absolutely NOTHING for PvE except to frustrate players who already play a “weaker” class in PvE, but might be fine in PvP.
On the contrary balance is just as important in PvE as it is in PvP. Some of the changes are directed towards making the different weapon sets equally viable, that gives more variety in PvE.
If you were going to seriously make this point you would have to argue that PvE is too hard. But, in reality the opposite is true and those people who want an easier time of it can easily overlevel a bit before tackling the content.
You are right that balance is also important in PvE. I did not focus on it enough in my previous post, but it is something i agree with you there. Imagine if the only viable pve build for warrior would be greatsword….it would just be too boring.
I disagree with you that by me making my point, i have to argue that PvE is too hard. On the contrary, if PvP and PvE is split….Anet will be free to re balance everything and make PvE harder. Its the lowest common denominator…..Anet can ONLY make it as difficult as the lowest common denominator. I mentioned in my post that my Warrior was able to wade through my main quests easily while i struggled to do so with my Engi. So if Engi and Warrior were both properly balanced for PvE….Anet would have been free to make the main quests harder. Or hell, just make everything harder as world quests are just too easy.
While so far i have shown a “pro” stance for PvE. It does not mean that i do not enjoy PvP. I just have not gotten to it yet as i want to finish doing PvE stuff first. I know for sure PvP also suffers because developers must somehow balance for both PvP and PvE which cannot be done. Its never been done. Its impossible to do. Please look at WoW.
ps. I mean….my argument is so interchangeable. If you replace the words PvE with PvP in my previous post….you will probably end up with a “pro” PvP stance.
Actually I am at work so I cant film it myself but there is Warrior! who can kill group event champ and this one seems pretty easy to kill and is for sure in lower lvl Area. There are some that could be soloed In 70-80 areas too…
haha this is a pretty easy world boss. I actually tanked him a few day ago with the same weapons. Just have to dodge, dodge, and shield block. Sometimes he will stomp too quickly but he would only take half of my health down (i was level 80 with crappy greens). It was pretty fun!
While i respectfully disagree about making lvl 80 areas soloable (this is a mmo for a reason and 1-79 is already soloable which is a big problem) I definitely agree that mobs should not have such heavy handed cc. Dying because 3 mobs decided to infinitely cc you to death….is the cheapest death ever. Its also a bit of a lazy design.
“so how can we make lvl 80 mobs harder?”
“oh i know!”
“CC them to death!”
I can see where Anet was going with our guns;
Rifle is for burst and direct damage.
Pistols are for sustained condition damage. The issues arise when we want to do something else outside of this.
I don’t want to be forced to make an alt just to get variety, I hate alts.I’m thinking about changing to a kit-build just to get some variety in my attacks, but I don’t want to have to do that.
With kits, I lack self boons and condition removal. :\
The problem is that almost non of our skills work reliably lol….which is what makes them so bad….and weak.
I have given up my engi for now (almost lvl 80 too) and playing my warrior atm (just dinged 80). Its shocking for me because, for everything quest i found challenging on my engi….i breezed through with my warrior.
The only reason i would ever finish leveling my engi would be that he will be awesome in WvW with the grenadier spec. Which sadly, seems like the spec was built for….and nothing else.
I prefer for no inspections of stats. It opens a whole can of worms.
While in a perfect world, it would be fine to inspect, many players will use it to gauge whether to invite you, kick you from a party etc.
It would be even worst if you put options. Players will just simply kick players who refuse to show their armor stats. I find it akin to dmg counters….not productive at all.

true, but we need more…MUCH more!
and while they are at it, please add more armor designs. For a game that is basically an outfit simulator….there really arent many outfits.
I was the first one to ask this during the beta period and no one really listened…..I guess the newness wore off the game and people are coming to their senses.
Theres a few here who object to this. My guess is that they have NEVER played a single mmo in their lives….or just play PvP and nothing else.
It is an impossible task to balance for both without taking from the other. Its like trying to look right, but at the same time look left.
Though I do admit that i find that Anet is in a bit of a hard situation. How will they balance for WvW? Will they use PvP stats or PvE stats? Maybe even a whole different set of stats? Not our jobs to find the solution but to ask for a solution i guess.
But i would just like to back up my statements with my experience with the game through playtime with various classes. Mainly I will talk about the engineer as thats the class that pisses me off the most. Put it simply, anything an engineer can do, a warrior can do better, more reliably, and live longer….except for the on demand aoe dmg engis have. So how is that helpful for PvE? Absolutely nothing. Are Engineers fine in PvP? From what I have read (no experience here), i guess they are. So if they are fine in PvP, but not fine in PvE? What can you do? Remember, you cant look right while looking left.
I honestly just cannot see the reason as to why anyone, with the health of the game in mind, object to this solution; the best solution. This will make both PvE and PvP much more enjoyable. The other solution is the WoW solution….Flavor of The Month…..
Hey look buddy, I'm an Engineer - that means I have problems.

I personally gave up on my engi until Anet ever decides to want to fix the class. Everything the Engi can go…my warrior can do better, except for the on demand Aoe damage. Now I dont know much about PvP, something i have yet to partake in…but seriously Anet, its time to split PvP and PvE stats. Your insistence on keeping their stats tied together is seriously killing all the “fun” out of playing any class in PvE….except for warrior, but technically, if the stats were to be separated, even the Warrior class would get much more “fun”.

Lol at fanboys calling other entitled.
I am VERY much entitled to the game i PAID for. They, Anet, named their price…I agreed with the price based of off beta and their so called manifesto. Or are you suggesting that the game is worth much more than what i paid for? It could very well be…but Anet SPECIFICALLY asked ME, the consumer, to pay that price. I do not see what is so difficult to understand. In fact, believe it or not….a lot of us earn our own money….not just get it from their moms. We know how difficult it is to earn money. If we pay for something, it very well better be what they advertise it to be. Its even worst if they suddenly decide to change it midway to punish you for playing a game you bought.
/rant.
Not to mention that, think about it, the only way for Anet to maintain your precious game……..wait for it……wait for it…..is to buy gems at the store. I bought 40 bucks worth of gems the first week this game has been out. It is MUCH more than the usual 15 dollar a month subscription fee other games usually ask for. I will not spend another dime until Anet fixes this whole debacle.
I like the game, I can wait for bug fixes, I can wait for more content via expansion packs or updates, but punish me for playing the game I paid for ($100 so far)…not gonna happen. When this thing is fixed, and i hope is sooner that later, i better not even be able to smell the system while playing.
Silencer,
Of course i will keep believing what i want to believe….you will also keep believing what you want to believe. At this point, its pretty clear that you will not change your mind on this issue….nor will the “haters”.
Fact is, you say what Breagh has posted is wrong….but i should believe that what you post is correct? Now, no one knows WHO is correct. The only thing i can go by is my own experiences (like what you are doing) and what everyone else is saying in the forums….and there are a lot of complains about DR by the way, not just this one.
I would also like to point out, that with my own experiences with the game, that there is no way in hell you can level a crafting profession to 400 by not farming at all IF that is what you are suggesting. Though of course you DO mention that you are gathering crafting mats WHILE you level. So basically you ARE farming for mats. I fail to see your point. I think everyone here WOULD be farming mats WHILE they level. At least, thats the most efficient way to do it….it does not mean however that you dont have to grind to get the amount of mats needed. So i find your last point a bit like trying to mislead players….
Anet would do us all a big favor if they would actually tell us HOW their DR system works.
Now, im not calling you a liar, you could very much be telling the truth based on your experiences. Most of my playtime is played with my fiancee. I swear that she keeps getting better and more drops than me all the time. Example: for every 5 dyes she gets….i get 1. Its ridiculous….and i often tell her to hook me up with some. It could very well be that the drop system is completely bugged out.
Bregah,
I would quote you, but forum is broken right now. Very well written and thought out. No fanboy will be able to find fault in your logic….so they will just not reply to you.
This takes me back to when i played Swtor for a bit. I tried fighting the hard battle in the forums….but you just cannot win against the fanboys.
The saddest thing is….you probably care much more about the game than those “fans”.
I love it when fanboys try to make it seem like if you have not done EVERY single thing there technically is to do inside of this game….that you cannot complain about the lack of endgame because….that IS the endgame. What you failed to notice (please take off the rose colored tinted goggles) is that it is because of that, that we are complaining that there is a lack of endgame content. Have you ever considered that X player might not like crafting? or might not care about having 100% world completion? or might be content with having no legendary weapons? well, you get the gist of it.
Also, from most of the posts i have read about people complaining, its not gear grind that we are asking for. Its a stupid system and I hated that when I used to play WoW back in the day. What im personally asking for is….more content. More repeatable content that you can do with groups. Mainly, I’m asking for missions from GW1. Make them all level 80 and make them for groups 2-5 with varying degrees of difficulty. THAT is endgame content.
I would also like to point out that Anet never delivered in their promise for fun activities. The only one we got was Keg Brawl….Im pretty sure it has its fans…but i personally dont like it too much.
Now, the ONLY ever argument i have heard, for Anet not having endgame content is….that you are technically only paying 60 bucks. I have played hundreds of hours so far. If i literally quit right now, this very moment….i would have had more than my moneys worth of entertainment. True, but then….if all the players take that same stance….then the game will go under extremely fast. Anet needs players to stick around and keep buying gems. I dont think their employees work for free and the server back end maintains itself with magic dust. In fact, I would venture to say that the players who are complaining….care most about the game.
I quite enjoyed gear progression on WoW private servers, and I didn’t pay a dime. They sure got me with that ploy, oh boy!
That fluffed-up copy-paste list that’s full of stuff like “Hang out with Quaggans” and “Give Logan a Wedgie” again? No thanks.
So you won’t have any trouble finding your gear progression fix on your WoW private server then right?
Have you seen 100% of the map?
Have you finished 1 of each race?
Have you leveled 1 of each class?Didn’t think so….
The only one i would give to you is completing 100% of the map. Even then, its a bit of a stretch because WvW zones are also included in the world completion. Meaning what?
-If you dont enjoy WvW, then you are kittened.
-If you server sucks in WvW then you are kittened.
As for your other two points…well…you are really stretching it arent you?
Fanboys always like to say that there is a specific class that you will enjoy. That you will not enjoy all of them. Which i wholeheartedly agree with. For example, I hate playing necromancer.
As for playing every race…lol. Your point falls apart once i or another player mentions that he/she hates X race.
Here is what i posted on another thread.
This is why, the whole notion of “the whole game is end game” is nothing but a marketing term and does NOT translate to what is really happening in the game. The notion itself is flawed. Because the moment you put “levels” in the game, the whole notion of “the whole game is end game” flies out the window. Why? Mainly because it creates a rift between low and high level players. The higher level player can drag himself to a lowbie area, be bored, and help his comrade. But the low level player cannot go to a high level area and play with his high level comrade. So how can you fix such a problem? The solution has already been created! Its called “end game content”. Why is that important? Because it creates a meeting point for players. Your high level friend cannot go any further. He can help you level in the hopes that you, the lowbie, can reach level cap to go tackle what is beyond…together…with your comrades. Creating a sense of camaraderie, then maybe joining a community, playing with them, tackling more content, having more experiences…..for years to come.
I just had a bad case of deja vu. This really reminds me of how how it was in the Swtor forums.
Player A: “This game is dying!! Fix the problems!!!”
Fanboy A: “Game is fine, game is not dying!!!”
Player B: “This game is dying!! Fix the problems!!!”
Fanboy B: “Game is fine, game is not dying!!!”
etc
etc
etc
Now, is the game really dying? I sure have seen a decline of low-mid level players in my server (Dark Haven). But that can be attributed to many reasons.
Mainly, Anets extremely shoddy follow up decisions after the game launched. Besides the DR issue everyone seems to be riled on about (me included). Just the amount of bugs, broken classes, low content in higher level areas, extremely broken economy, army of bots that keep multiplying, problems with design in WvW, etc.
BUT, i think the most important thing of all, in my opinion with my ton of hours put into the game with real life friends and solo, this game really plays like a single player game! That was a big problem in Swtor, and now this is even a bigger problem in GW2. There really is no real social aspects for players to get attached. No real team mates, no real communities, no real friends. You will NEVER hear players meeting their soul mates in GW2. Its a bit weird for me, but it sure is an awesome story. Two players of opposite sex, got so into the game, joined a real close community around the game, enjoyed playing together so much with them and with their community, that it compelled them to get married in real life.
My point is, it is in the social aspects that makes players stick to the game…and in turn, make the game thrive. It is not the content, the content is merely a tool for which to make social ties with other players. So, in order for social ties to be made, the game tools and content MUST be tailored in order to have that experience.
GW2 has NON of this. It really is a shame because i like this game and see so much unfulfilled potential in it. I play this game with my fiancee and real life friends. We have created our own private guild just for us. I have also joined a bigger guild….but there really is not much activity in it…even though it has a bit over 100 players. The ONLY way i am able to enjoy this game, in a social aspect, is when both my fiancee and I log in at the same time (she is literally playing next to me in real life), and we start questing together. Meaning, we do the same hearts, DE’s, etc at the same time. If i ever do a zone or heart before she does, it really is extremely boring for me to repeat said heart with her. Not because i dont enjoy my time with her, but because the content (heart quests) are extremely boring once you have already done it once (plus you also get no reward). I sure wish DE’s were more common and plentiful, so i dont have to go DE hunting…which is also pretty boring activity to do.
I can rarely even play with my other real life friend. If he is in a more advanced area than me and higher level….or vice versa….while you CAN play together (the game doesnt literally stop you from doing so) it is BORING for the higher level to go to lower level area, and help a friend….or hell, just quest together. Again, it is the design of the game at fault. Why? because Anet has made grouping to be a trivial thing.
Creating a sense of camaraderie, then maybe joining a community, playing with them, tackling more content. having more experiences…..for years to come.
Also, excuse me if i seemed rushed, or didnt write down my thoughts in more depth, the post is already too long. I do not want to make it longer.
The main reason for kitten poor class balance (aka: why are there so many warriors and guardians)

While i admit i did not read the entire thing, but i should since you took the time to write the entire thing….im feeling a bit lazy right now
I do not agree with your fix to class balance. What Anet has to do, is separate PVE and PVP stats from each other. Anet is just being lazy right now and dont want to do it. I mean, they already bothered to actually separate PVP mode with the entirety of PVE…..but why dont they do it for the stats also? Just being lazy on their part.
If Elemetalist or Engi need more survivability for PVE? Buff their Vitality or toughness FOR PVE. You dont touch the PVP part of it. There really is no need to nerf classes that are pretty balanced atm just because other classes (Ele, engi) are lacking in PVE because they might be balanced in sPvP. Confusing i know….hence the need for separate stats.
Also, i have a Warrior and Engi to level 70+. The only viable spec for engi for PVE is grenades. Engi, from what i have heard, are pretty good in sPvP. So what to do??? Separate the STATS Anet!!
Story quests can only be done if the player hasnt done it yet. Once its been done, its no longer repeatable. Unless its a functionality that i have missed.
Also, no, only the player whom the story belongs to, gets the xp/karma/loot. Speaking of loot, in most cases, loot is pretty rare to come by while in a story mission. I would also like to mention that most story quests are pretty shallow and not very fun if you have already done it once. Its only entertaining if you havent done it and really like the lore/story of the game. They usually offer nothing impressive that you cannot get from just going into the open world.
The implementation of missions from GW1 would offer endless possibilities and more complex levels to a group of players. In other words…a more tailored experienced. I’ve always found DE’s to be pretty bland because of their inherent purpose, they must cater to everyone who is inside the world, all the while also living inside the world. So they just end up being generic.
