We’ve heard this story SO many times now, I dont even remember all the games that would put GW1 and 2 out to pasture, most of them are barely alive or gone altogether.

8, no nearly 9 years ago we were told of all the marvels that would put GW1 out of business, its still running now we’re in the second year of GW2 and its the same story again, there’s the WoW addicts who keep harping on how much better it is yada yada, there’s the trailblazers who decry that GW 2 is nothing, bad, full of xyz etc etc who are leaving because game X is coming out and man, thats going to be IT! And then a year later the game in question is barely hanging on.

Look, this game wasnt made to entertain you 24/7 all year round, go have fun with a new game and when you’re done then you can Always come back (or not), its not like it matters, you paid for the game and whether you play 10 or 1000 hours makes no difference.

The only thing that will kill GW1 is time or NCSoft. They have a very small hardcore niche of players that will never leave the game. The number of subs for that game is so small, no one really cares.

Also, I dont know which triple A mmos have come out since GW2 has come out. GW2 was suppose to be the answer to the old guard.

With the release of WS and ESO, I really don’t think GW2 will be able to get out unscathed. WS will take a lot of the hardcore dungeon/raiding and PvP players and ESO will take a lot of the hardcore WvW ones. In fact, ESO version of WvW looks so good, if i could split myself in two, I would play ESO just for that.

So I tried Wildstar and I missed playing GW2

Reading the responses here made me LOL. Almost makes me think some accounts are Anet employees…..

I understand if some people don’t like WS because they are just not a fan of the art design. GW2, has THE nicest art designs around, its what made me stick around for so long (until a couple of months ago). It’s a beautiful mix of cartoonish and realistic designs. Though if you ask me, it has more cartoonish design than realistic….so I find it hard to believe that you don’t like WS because of its cartoonish visuals. To each their own I guess.

I have played every single class in WS. Admittedly, not all to the degree i wanted to, but enough to make a solid first impression (my highest leveled toon being a lvl 14 or 15). Unlike some of you here who never even got past the TUTORIAL areas.

Here are the things WS has over GW2:

1) Trinity – GW2 drew me in because of the lack of trinity. Ends up…you need trinity to make combat more complicated and challenging.

2) Sub Fee – If anyone still is arguing for no sub fees, then you either not played the same game I did or you have so much money that you can buy all you want because you dont want to put effort into a game or that you are so poor that you cannot afford $15 a month. Sub fee is necessary for any serious mmo.

3) Action combat system is a wash. WS has en edge because of trinity. The skills are just implemented better. The underlying combat system itself though is similar enough. Though with the telegraphs, it makes combat a lot more fast paced which I preferred.

4) A lot more quests. DE’s and heart quests in GW2 are just standard quests with a different dress. Nothing to brag about. In fact, DE’s even get repetitive because its the same thing over and over. I rather have more quests than do the same quests over and over again.

5) A lot better PvP. GW2 PvP is the biggest joke of this gen. This includes their sPvP and WvW….sorry…i mean ZvZ.

6) No Living Story crap that then gets taken away.

7) Two opposing faction system with open world PvP.

8) Will not revolve around the cash shop.

9) Will have a real end game. Sorry but GW2’s entire game is not endgame like Anet wants you to believe.

10) Mentoring system. This system works better than GW2’s auto down level system. The auto down level system doesn’t even work correctly. I destroy stuff if i go to a lower level area (so what the point of having it?). Where as when I mentored a lvl 8 on my lvl 14 character, it felt as if i really was a lvl 8.

11) Difficulty. GW2 difficulty is a joke. The only reason a group wipes in GW2 is because the group is full of noobs wearing tanking and/or healing gear. Higher end fractals being the only exception.

12) This has to do with point 2. Since there is a sub fee in WS, then everything can be earned. No need to keep everything behind imaginary once a day timers, no need to have ridiculously low drop rates, etc etc etc. You get the point…i hope.

Now I’m not saying WS is perfect. Far from it actually. It still needs a lot of polishing.

1)The UI in the current build is horrible. (new build with updated UI incoming)
2) Grouping to do quests is horrible with the way the UI group features are implemented. (new build with updated UI incoming)
3) From what I have gathered. Their warplots PvP mode is still a in progress work and is broken atm.
4) Some trouble with keybinds to mouse.
5) Server stability still not there.
6) Game still needs optimizing.
7) The game doesn’t come to life until around lvl 13.

But still, so far from what I have played. It’s going to be a much better game than GW2. I have faith that their problems will be ironed out before or shortly after launch. Why do i have so much faith? Its simple, Sub Fee. Players pay and devs work. In GW2, it’s “How do we keep our players using our cash shop?”

tldr version. WS much better than GW2.

Why do people stop playing GW2?

After one year with no new core game updates….it gets boring. I don’t even count LS updates as content with the exception of certain parts of it.

Yeah, everyone needs to stop buying BLC keys. I’m starting to loose faith in the B2P model because of how Anet has been handling it.

-Any new fancy skin that you can earn in-game is hidden behind some of the most extreme low rng I have seen in any mmo because they want to be buying them with gems.

-New fancy skins are hidden behind gamble boxes which also have low rng. Not to mention the fact that they are 2 bucks a pop. low rng+2 bucks each = a lot of money.

-Because of the above business model, everything that is introduced in the game needs to lead to monetization in some way.

While this business model in theory should be good. Its all about finding the right balance. Anet so far has not and not even close. I feel like so far, everything I do, leads to the gem store. Far from being “convenient” which is what Anet intended the store to be.

I don’t mean for everything to be easy to get either. But there should be a even rarity scale with skins. I love how there aren’t a lot of greatsaws.

-Hard, Medium, Easy to get in-game item.
-Expensive, Medium, cheap gem store weapons.
-Some you can only get in-game and some only gem store.

So far the scale is leaning a LOT towards the gem store.

Compared this business model with the subscription model.

-Everything is earned through in-game and since there is no store, then everything is based on rarity level. Most subscription models have a pretty good rarity level scale, and most of those items are earned through skill.

In before someone mentions that I can get dungeon skins already in-game. Those are super old content that came with the core game. I’m talking in regards of all the new “content” that’s coming out. I’m also aware that Anet came out with the new skins from champs…..but most are lamer than the BLC ones….and quantity wise, we have less. So the scale is still heavily tipped towards the gem store.

The biggest flaw in LS right now is depth. As a player, every time there is a new LS, I have to look for it and completely feel detached from it due to the way everything is presented….or rather, lack of presentation.

- If you introduce a LS, everything needs to be there and not in parts (2 weeks and then the other 2 weeks). For example Halloween. I got mail to go meet someone. I meet this someone in the Charr city. I go into an instanced area. Meet the prince….and that’s it??

- LS needs to be more interesting. So far, everything has been shallow and Scarlet as a villain is also shallow. I don’t even know what is her deal. This is an mmo. Let us be heroes. A hero with no sense of purpose is no hero at all. LS needs to play out like an adventure movie.

1) Something major happens – nice cut scene that shows the scale of the incident and not lame cut scenes with no sense of scale. The Queens Gauntlet in-game cut scenes is a perfect example of what could have been an awesome sequence but felt lazy and with no sense of awesomeness. Am I to believe that there is such a small amount of troops protecting Queen Jenna?

2) We heros get involved because we are heros who fight for justice – Perfect chance to show off our character models in a in-game cut scene and acting like we are real heros. We are the boss. Everyone is relieved because I, the hero, is there.

3) We then know or think we know what the villain is plotting. – Also shown in a cut scene after we have completed a series of missions.

4) We go through a series of challenges and actively fight against the minions of the villain the reach the villain – This is where the meat is. Since this is an mmo, we need the sense that the story is revolving around us….that we matter…and that we are doing something heroic.

5) We finally reach the main villain and we get to kill him/her…finally CLOSING the story arc. The villain MUST stay dead, or maybe skillfully bring the villain back in a future LS release.

In order to do this. Every LS arc should be released every month, instead of breaking it up in 2 parts. Cut scenes must be placed throughout the LS arc to keep a sense of story narrative. Do NOT stretch out the LS arc through various LS updates. This completely kills any sense of story narration….and cares given by the players. I don’t even know whats going on anymore after the magician whos always near queen Jenna (that’s right, not US, but some unimportant NPC whos name I don’t remember) saved Queen Jenna.

On top of having the LS arc, you can also include the usual farming achievement quests to keep players busy.

A important note is that with each LS update, a permanent core game content update should also be introduced. The lack of core game updates is what is killing this game.

Ruby Orbs vs. Superior Rune of Strength

The current “meta” which is followed by dungeon speed clearing guilds is

Scholar Runes>Ruby Orbs

Ruby orbs being the poor mans choice. So Strength runes are out of the question since speed clearing guilds keep a constant stack of might during fights.

Yeah it is very noticeable how empty the zones are in GW2. In launch day and a few months afterwards I was able to always find someone to level with. Now that I play this game more often and i wanted to level a Warrior, I mean c’mon you can’t denied that a little Asura with a giant 2 handed sword looks pretty cool, it is hard to find someone to “quest” with. I think I got around 30+ levels by just being in Queensdale and following the kill champs zerg. >.> Talk about boring. But thanks Caramel, I learn a lot from your post.

My most recent lvl 80 was my thief. I did a mix of map completion, personal story, crafting, and WvW to get to lvl 80. Yeah, any champ train is boring. Its like staring at wilted grass for hours. That’s why I think WvW is the best way to level.

I do suggest getting to lvl 80 though. There is a lot of fun to be had at lvl 80….that is until you get tired of the content. Anet has been super slow in releasing meaningful content.

I have time, so I will hopefully try to cover the pve aspect of this game for you.

While there is no trinity in this game, it doesn’t mean that there is no team work. This game is all about dmg. You then, depending on your class, equip some support skills which enable you and your team to do more dmg.

By support I don’t mean healing and/or tanking. These things, while “exist” in the game, are in no way at all useful in pve. They belong in WvW. PvE support are things like buffing you party, using skills to deflect or nullify dmg and the most important one is you, yourself, doing as much dmg as possible without dying.

Leveling in this game, this late into the game, must be pretty boring due to not a lot of players at low level. I suggest you to go to WvW, find a zerg, and level your toon to 80 there.

At level 80, if you are big on pve, just do dungeons. Your ultimate goal in the dungeons should be to play flawlessly while doing as much dmg as possible. This means that your toon will be equipped with full berserker gear and full dmg traits. Melee weapons>ranged weapons by a mile. Always use melee unless the fight requires ranged and/or the boss is too tough using melee.

This is where it gets “fun”. Most bosses will one-shot you if you do not dodge their big attacks. The challenge comes from learning when to dodge, mastering your dmg rotations, when to use your “support” skills, and learning what skills and weapons to use for certain fights….all to maximize you and your partys dmg.

Some players here will give you bad advice. Like using healing gear, power/toughness/vitality armor, etc. Pls don’t listen to them. The challenge is like I explained above. If you use bad gear, then while you can beat the dungeons, it will be because your party carried you and/or it took forever to finish the dungeon.

How agro works in this game.
dmg>toughness amount>everything else

This is why dmg oriented players want to play with other dmg oriented players. If there is only one dmg oriented player and the other four are running w/e crap, then the boss will instantly go for the highest dmg player.

Last advice. I don’t know what class you are currently playing with. If your class is not close to 80. Then reroll to a Warrior or Guardian. Class balance is almost non existent here and those two classes are the best all around classes. Other classes do more dmg but their dmg output is wholly dependent on heavier classes to “tank” the dmg. and/or dependent wholly on having a full dps grp.

For specs, head over to guildwars2guru.com. Most specs there have been through a spreadsheet to verify its usefulness.

this game is not a serious PvP game and should have never been advertised or treated as one.

I most agree with your post, but that’s just false.
GW2 has NEVER been advertised as a PvP game by Arenanet.

False. Anet heavily advertised this game as being an esport. If they never did officially, it doesn’t matter. But in all interviews before the release of the game….they kept touting it as an esport.

sPvP needs:

DR on CC
Capture the Flag, Mini-WvW, and an invasion map (20v20)
Ways to spend glory (buy t6 mats?)

That would be a dream come true for me lol. I always thought WvW would have been a lot better if it was a LOT smaller and with only about 50 players on each side (less if there are 3 diff teams, though 1v1 team would be a lot easier to design)…..and have it where there is a clear winner in the end (game finishes because x team won).

CTF and invasion maps also sounds awesome for spvp.

You have just saved GW2 pvp if they ever listen to you lol.

My thoughts on WVW

If you ever played warhammer online you will realize how much of a joke is wvw in this game. (it was not perfect but man i find it so much better than this)

no body blocking, no tanks (where are the shield walls? the line of heavies stopping the enemies for getting inside a castle?), siege machines takes too much to be built and too little to be destroyed, you have to run many minutes for a 10 seconds fight and then run back a huge distance, no raid/huge party interface, etc (yes etc.. i don’t wanna be typing forever).

This game got the worst from other games massive pvp: Lots of unorganized zergs against each other where AOE is king. Just a huge mess of red and green names running and doing nothing in particular, just AOEs and spamming 1. Eventually you see someone to hit but those are the rare opportunities.

Maps are designed for thousands of players and you barely get to see a few dozens (even at full when you have to wait in queue to enter, maps are still empty).

meh… it has potential but the things that (IMO) are not properly design for a massive pvp are core and I don’t expect them to change.

I agree with everything you have said. I have never played an mmo with “hundreds” of players against each other, but I don’t need to do that to see that there is something horribly wrong with the way WvW has been designed.

In fact, I just came from WvW since they have the new Season 1 achievements. There was a lot of “action” going on…but everything was just so boring. Equipping aoe weapon….then press 1111111.

Yeah I’m still befuddled why they have yet to release armor sets on the BLTC other than the old 3 we have there.

There are more than 3 armor sets on the TP. I think there are 9 right now.

I would really like to see those skins be added to the achievement bank, so they are reusable on the account, though.

I agree, but have to add that it would be even more awesome if they would give us a ward drove for our characters. There, all the skins (including actual weapon and armor models which aren’t classified as skins) we have ever owned would be stored there ready to be used as a skin. Too bad it will never happen as it will cut into their gem sales.

Untapped Potential - Gem Store

Caramel Ham.4891

I think the main issue with the untapped potential may have to do with sales figures, and I’m just guessing, so don’t quote me or ask for quotes … based off a lot of comments in various threads from folks who said they wouldn’t drop a dime on additional town clothes since you can’t wear them over your armor (ala GW1), I’m going to assume that many of the clothing options available go unsold. That, in turn, could demonstrate a lack of interest in them as a whole, hence a lack of further development of other clothing options. This would, obviously, be the wrong conclusion to draw from the lackluster sales, but I could see it being a contributing factor.

Personally, for myself, I’d buy multiple sets of different outfits if they weren’t restricted to town use only.

Its because all Anet cares for is metrics. They, as is obviously apparent, never ask the “why”.

2) More skills. Utility and weapon skills.
3) Permanent content tailored to specific groups of players. For example players who don’t like dungeons will not like dungeons even if you dumb them down.

Bad analogy, you prove his point.

A car doesn’t go faster or consume less by having or not having AC/radio.
They are flavor things you don’t need to have; I had a car without AC/radio from 18 to 20 and now I have one with them, I’m not going any faster just manage to have fresher good times during summer hot days.

Ascended gear, skins, minis and fluff stuff are for people who want that extra goal. They are not required.

I take issue with this statement…not at you so pls don’t take this the wrong way….but I have seen this argument always thrown out there when its about this topic.

That is because all those that you have mentioned are something essential to an mmo. So in actuality, they are required. Fluff has been part of mmo culture since probably its inception.

Its akin to saying you do not need air conditioning and a radio in your car.

And you don’t. Our car has neither because both are not necessary to drive from A to B. I have a smartphone with an app which warns me if there is a traffic jam, though.

You also overlook that you can get a lot of “fluff” in game. So it is not like a car without radio but it is like a car without a special kind of radio.
I take issue with your reply…

Do you realize how ridiculous you sound by saying a car needs neither? If that’s the hard line you are going to take in regards to this, I see no reason to entertain your silly argument.

Also, by “a lot” of fluff….you mean the extreme limited selection of anything noteworthy right? This includes in-game and cash shop fluff. I’m not gonna bother to post my thoughts on this again. Read my responses above, or not, I don’t care. I shouldn’t even be responding to you as your reply is complete flame bait. I bit…sue me.

Except that cosmetic items like skins and minis were supposed to be sold in gem store since the beginning of the game. The game already gives you a ton of similar in-game options to choose from, and everything in the gem store comes as an addition to that.

You knew that when you bought the game. If those additional and optional items are essential to your gameplay, why did you buy the game?

The way they talked about GW2 in the beginning, it was that the cash shop was suppose to be all about convenience. I followed GW2 intently all the way to release, so I remember what they said.

While there is fluff that you can get by playing the game. Those items are hidden under some extreme rng or extreme grind or both. Except for most back items you get for completing LS metas.

Its all about balance, so far Anet’s balance is extremely biased towards the extreme side of the cash shop (Black Lions Chests). I don’t mind that there is fluff you can buy in the gem store. I have spent money buying gems just to buy the stuff there. Anet have to make money somehow….though ripping off players is a completely different story. 2$ BLC keys lol.

So what’s my stance on the issue? Fluff should be offered equally (in numbers and quality) in-game and also the cash shop. Im not saying that they have to be the same items….but they have to be at least equally as cool. Making in-game items not as cool as cash shop items is basically cheating the players.

A perfect missed chance for the cash shop was not making SAB weapons be available in the cash shop. Regular skins were blue but not very glowy. Tribulation mode skins were glowy green and yellow. Cash shop skins should have been a different color and offer glowy and non glowy versions with the glowy version being more expensive.

There are so many missed chances for Anet to cash in on the cash shop….but instead, they picked the easy route and put new skins in BLC’s (more or same amount of money but less work). Not to mention that it encourages gambling or bad gambling habits. Anet is almost a casino lol. I just can’t understand Anets thinking here. I don’t even understand why there isn’t even more fluff in the game. The amount of fluff is completely lacking.

Note. I’m not against SOME items being extremely rare. Rarity has its value. So I would be fine having a very small amount of items be dropped in BLC’s.

Since you are talking about the Warrior class and about pve. Just go full berserker on all gear. You will have a base HP of almost 20K with full dps traits and armor. That is a TON compared to all other classes.

Your support comes from doing a lot of dmg, banners, shake it off, and for great justice. All skills that buff your team up tremendously. No other class can provide that kind of offensive support while not giving up on dmg.

Go with a 30/25/0/0/15 build using a GS and Axe/mace. The most popular spec for warriors just got nerfed so taking empower allies is a waste now.

Without a shred of a doubt. The best classes, if I were to only be able to play one of them, would be a tie between the Guardian and the Warrior. They are the best balanced of all the classes so far with no indication that it will change in the near future.

Pretty much agree with the posts here. The game was awesome before Nov 15th, 2012. Then it became the #1 best selling AND #1 most grindy game of all time. For the game that didn’t have vertical progression they sure seem to go to extreme lengths to put grind in the game. Until recently you had to grind PvE to get the Ascended gear for PvP. At least in WoW you can get your PvP gear by doing PvP.

We’ll see how it plays out I’m experimenting till Halloween. I’m forcing myself to give it a try but so far I’ve been pretty much convinced of you get what you pay for even with MMOs.

My biggest problem is that we have had to grind the same content from day 1 over and over again. While I think that some grind (dungeon token grind is a pretty nice sweet spot) is necessary for an mmo, Anet have gone crazy over the amount of grind necessary for some of the items. Its much worse when the content hasn’t changed and every two weeks a new temporary grind is introduced.

1) New well thought out dungeons that is targeted towards dungeoneers.
2) A complete pve/pvp split. Everything must be separated. WvW should be considered pvp.
3) More skills to choose from. This includes utility and weapon skills.
4) Instanced raids.
5) Get rid of BLC keys or exponentially lower their prices while keeping the same rng chance. Loot should be kept locked under skillful play and not under rip off 2 dollar keys which give you a minimal chance to get w/e it is you wanted. Having different versions of the loot kept under skillful play should be available through the cash shop to be bought outright with gems.

Im talking strictly pve.

I agree with OP. If its true that Anet is balancing all other classes around the Warrior class, then the base health of at least the Ele, thief, and Engi should go up. The guardian, while it has low hp, is fine because their base protection through virtues more than makes up for its low hp base. The other classes I know nothing about as I don’t play them.

Because of the toxic nature of the forums recently, some people are afraid to post their thoughts. Seeing that rampant disrespect and rude remarks toward the very developers of the game goes unchecked does not facilitate an atmosphere where others whose opinion doesn’t ‘go with the current flow’ can feel safe to post that opinion.

Hopefully, the forums will become a place where no one will be attacked, and we can all discuss issues like the civilized people we are.

That is a completely separate issue. When a noob says something that is wrong and a player with more experience corrects him without disrespecting him, then the noob should learn something from the more experienced player. It is not so with noobs here. They get hard headed, start trolling the more experienced player trying to give advice….and then it turns into a troll fest. See all “zerker gear” threads.

We are all noobs at one time or the other. What matters is that we learn and become “experienced”.

Newb = New person, without knowledge, but with capacity to learn

Noob = Someone that will never learn, thinks they know it all and anyone that disagrees is a Noob

Yah, I meant that lol. Thanks for the correction.

Anyone who has been active on these forums a while will notice that as the game progresses, the level of dissatisfaction and criticism is steadily increasing. I won’t go into the reasons for this, but it’s basically because more updates, equals more opportunity to criticize.

This increase in criticism has meant that from the player perspective, and even more so the perspective of outsiders (Google, Game review sites, potential customers, etc.), the game can appear to be inundated with issues, and the company is not competent.

In response, it appears that ANet has decided to basically perform “damage control” by trying to control the information being presented. For example, if ANet starts posting and discussing thread topics, they can basically sway the community into talking about what they want, in a way they want.

However, it was fairly obvious that an increase of ANet employees discussing topics on this website, would inevitably create more of what they’ve been attempting to avoid (negative threads).

So, as a “preemptive strike” if you will, ANet has decided to modify the forum expectations in order to justify what will inevitably result in the suspension of many players.

The closing of the mentioned thread is, in my opinion, another attempt at control. If you go read the thread, you’ll notice that much of it is, “negative” towards ANet. Everyone was being respectful, and providing well thought out answers, which ANet has asked for, but because it didn’t paint things in a positive light, it was locked down.

Discussing this topic is going to be very difficult around here from now on. ANet has placed themselves in a position where they retain ultimate control. By using vague terminology and weasel words, they have allowed themselves the freedom to get rid of any posts, and or players who don’t contribute to what I feel is ANets new attempt at damage control.

Anyway, time will tell to what degree ANet takes this. This post alone (mine), has so many statements that an overzealous mod could determine to be “insulting” thus resulting in a suspension. This fear and hesitation of what will, and won’t be considered “insulting to an individual (Aka ANet)” will make posting here very difficult in the future.

So, from now on, whenever I press “Post Reply” the question will be, “Is this the post that will end my time here?”

I agree with you that the level of dissatisfaction is increasing as each update gets released. But I disagree with you as to the why. It basically boils down to the updates being underwhelming and not what players want (nor “not want” but awesome that Anet thought of it and now I want more of that). Each LS update so far has added fluff (that is fun for the first half hour and then turns into a boring grind afterwards) but no fixes to what most players are wanting fixed.

Each player has their own expectations as to what the game could be for them. For myself, I wish for more core content and core content fixes such as more dungeons and a pve/pvp split. Other players might want something else. Anet so far has not satisfied not even one grp of players, hence, dissatisfaction is growing.

Its like a person who puts on a fake mask and acts cool with every single social grp, but after a while, those social grps start noticing it and start to get angry with said person. Ofc, im talking about their famous line in their manifesto “If you are an mmo player, you want to play our game. If you are not an mmo player, you really want to play our game”

Yup, this is nothing more than damage control. This is the first time I have seen Anets employees post in one thread so many times. Obviously things weren’t going the way they had planned….so they closed it.

The funny thing is….while Anet is waging war against us…its us, who complain the most, who are the players who want this game to succeed the most. We complain because we care. If we didn’t care….we wouldn’t be here posting…..

Actually, I’m still deciding whether or not to log in. A good forum discussion is a component of my enjoyment of any MMO, and right now the air is a bit toxic in here.

Its toxic in here because the majority of players patience is wearing thin waiting for Anet to deliver something worthwhile. Not the usual bug ridden farm this farm that quests.

This kinda seems like a response to the recent incident that I will not mention in fear of being infracted. All I will say is it is sad that it has come to this. Where ArenaNet has to give themselves a boost in power in order to make sure they are not at fault. Anet vs The Players?

^I was trying to give my opinion on this but I’m sure somehow that can be worthy of an infraction.

Yup, this has turned into Anet vs Gw2 players now. We see it in the forums….as well as in the game.

For example, charging 2 bucks per BLC key and hiding new skins in BLC. If Anet were to treat its customers with the respect we deserve (as any business treats its customers), then they would have listened to us and either

A) Make BLC keys a lot cheaper. 2 bucks per key is an insult.
B) Keep the same price per key but actually give us a net worth of 2 bucks per open chest.

I get Anet needs money to keep the game alive. I have bought a lot of gems because of it. Im a customer and I do not like to be ripped off. There needs to be a balance to things. If I pay x amount of money, I expect to receive goods that are worth the x amount of money I paid.

There are also other reasons as to why this forums has turned out as “negative” as it is now. Anet is completely wrong in blaming it on the players. Its like a bad ruler blaming its people for protesting in the streets.

The very basic problem has been that Anet has so far been under delivering in almost all aspects of the game. How can you blame your players for being angry?? It doesn’t matter how they voice it. The problem is that they are angry. Make us happy. Happy players will lead to more happy talk.

Anet waging a war against its players is not a very good sign at all. I would tread cautiously from now on….with my wallet too.

this game is amazing, and the people that say otherwise are people like me that love this game to death and see potential to be the best MMO ever, ANET is just making a like of strange decisions.

As a game, this is easily one of the best ive EVER played.

As an on going MMO, development is … strange to be the least. They def care about the game and give us tons of things to do and im not complaining, but a lot of the normal things MMO do like more classes, races, new areas, dont seem to be on the table and thats what we really want. Still though, its an amazing game and dont let these forums destroy you

Even though I complain….I really do like this game, hence why I keep playing. My main beef with Anet so far, has been the complete lack of direction by its devs and complete lack of content. Its been a bit over one year and the last real update was fractals. While the LS has been good in a way to keep the world “living”, core content updates have been completely missing.

The game has potential. Im still waiting for the devs to deliver on that potential. The current direction the devs have taken with this game, is as if the devs are in a fight against the community….which is not a good sign.

The only thing that needs changing is the last chain of the 1h sword that roots you in place. If devs think that their dmg is too much and need a handicap (rooting), then that’s false.

Other than that, stop pewpewpewing from afar and the perception of ranger will drastically change from “oh boy we got a rangenoob here” to “welcome my fellow player!”

Sadly there are much better classes to be playing if you want to play melee, that do much better damage and have much better group support, rather than gimmicky ranger builds.

Want to play ranged class- there are warriors and thiefs that do much better damage than rangers and have better survival.

Rangers in wvw are a mess. For pve, they are fine, but for most pve you can complete it naked so that’s not really a comparison. In wvw the glaring flaws are fully exposed.

Sorry, I should have added “for pve” in my post. I have limited experience in pvp so I cant say nothing about it. Though since beta, I have always stood by my believe that Anet should completely divide pvp with pve. That way, they can balance for both. It is glaringly obvious that they haven’t got a clue on how to balance for both at the same time without separation. In fact, it is just not possible.

lol, so funny that everyone here has the same perception of the game. I too thought this was the best game ever…..but after you reach lvl 80, it becomes extremely shallow due to lack of content and challenging content.

The game does have tremendous potential though….im still waiting for the devs to one day wake up and deliver on that potential…which is why im still playing. Plus I love the art style.

haha you couldnt be more wrong. to be fair, this was my thought when I first hit 80 (like a few months ago). I was like “YES!! Finally hit 80, SUCK IT!! Clearly I’ve beat this game, theres nothing else for me to do or learn or achieve.” Of course, I was still a total noob and had barely even scratched the surface of what the game had to offer. There are dungeons and fractals, ascended/legendaries if you want to strive towards them, WvW, jumping puzzles, map completion, world bosses and events, and STUFF..theres always awsome stuff to has, to waste your hard-earned gold on. useless stuff in the end really. but still pretty neat. And lack of challenging content? you cant be serious. Why not run an Arah path, fight Lupicus? Or try soloing dungeons, or doing fractals lvl38 or something. that should be challenging enough..

But honestly.. dungeons and living stories are mainly where its at for me. Pick one or two dungeons that you really like, out of those run the paths you want to daily, and you will never get tired of it. trust me. the gold I get doing them is just an accidental by-product nowadays, I mainly run them just for fun.

I already do dungeons and fractals. In fact, that’s all I do since my previous mmo was WoW and through that, “dungeoneering” was ingrained into me. When players mention pve, dungeons is what first pops into my head. In fact, I don’t know what other activity in GW2 would be considered “challenging” pve.

Open world in GW2 is a mess. All world bosses are boring. Even the new Teq is boring because your small “contribution” to the fight means crap if the other 80+ players cant do anything but press 1. That fight should have been a 10-20 man instance to begin with…..and made it harder.

I admit I have not finished all the jumping puzzles in the game (its on my to do list). I find them pretty fun. BUT only to do once or twice. To keep repeating those, gets boring and stale fast. Even the mad king tower, which I had considered the greatest jumping puzzle Anet had created, has just become so boring now.

As for PvP, many players enjoy it. I hate it. I find spvp boring. Its more about capping zones than it is about pvp. WvW even more so. Its all about a big zerg and player vs gates. This game will never satisfy me in pvp, I get that and im fine with it.

I have not tried to solo any of the dungeons yet….and I don’t know if I ever will. I enjoy playing as a team. I might not even be good at soloing them, but it doesn’t matter. Some players like you enjoy that kind of thing (not saying its a bad thing). But I cant be bothered to do it if there is no reward for me for having done so…like a title or something.

Also, fyi, when I say theres a lack of content. I mainly mean dungeons. What other pve content is designed to be “challenging” and “repeatable”. The last real update we got was fractals. I hardly count the new TA path as a real dungeon. That one is a mess….or more like a mini game.

To summarize, its been a bit over a year since we have had access to our current line up of dungeons….a bit less than that for fractals. Just how many times do you expect me to do those and not get bored with them? Specially when 90% (made up figure to mean majority) of the player base still thinks that there are healers and tanks in this game….

If you’re on about PvP/WvW, then well we’re on about PvE. I’m sure AH is fine in WvW when you have a bunch of guys around you and sustain is more important than faceplanting and being the dreaded rallybot.

Ah, so you do know about some other aspects. Regardless, even if it is just PvE, I can think of so many reasons and situations where an AH build may be preferred to be used over another.

One good example is saving downed allies while being able to tank a significant amount of damage from mobs. I have no doubt you can dodge every single damage from a mob, but you can’t be reving if you’re dodging. Then and again, maybe downing itself is considered selfish and the player should just have died instead because real pros never down am I right? But then this means it’s selfish play because there is no teamwork, everyone looks out for themselves and themselves only and it’s no different than playing with some NPCS (with the exception that NPCs probably will try to save you lol)… wait.. does that mean every single zerker build out there is a selfish build because it contributes nothing to other peoples survivability except for killing speed.

See what i’m saying, 1-dimensional thinking leads to these silly conclusions. The moment you guys said something was 100 % is where you went wrong.

I say the same thing to wvw/pvpers who say zerker build is a noob build and should never be used. There are situations for it to be used even if more tanky builds are usually preferred. e.g. small group roaming.

Sure you can run AH builds to run with noobs. But what about if I do not want to spec to just run with noobs? I have carried countless pugs, whom many were noobs, with my dps built Guardian, I do not have to revive every single one of the grp members to win. I just kill whatever is almost dead so that the player can rally off of it. Besides, my guardian can def survive reviving (not completely dead, downed) someone during a boss fight.

In your example, what if the player who is downed gets downed when literally the whole fight has broken down and everyone, except the AH guardian is barely surviving? AH Guardian will not be able to tank that much dmg…..unless hes full “tank” so therefore it was his lack of dps contribution that such a wipe was about to happen in the first place….among other factors.

So my Guardian can revive downed players. My Guardian can dps a lot to make up for noob players running pvt. I think of it this way, if in a fight, some players go down but at different times, I can def revive them….but if the other 4 have died (not downed but died), I already count as a wipe in most situations except the obvious soloable ones. Im sure an AH guardian would be no different.

To summarize. AH guardians in pve are pretty useless, even IF they might be helpful in one or two scenarios. We aren’t going to completely change out our spec and equipment just for those rare occasions.

In situations where I definitely have to go ranged, such as fire shaman in fractals. Scepter is the only way to go. So you are incorrect in saying that Guardians lack ranged attacks.

You should have instead said that Staff is horrible and Guardian shouldn’t be using it unless in open world farming to leech as much loot as possible….which is what I do.

You being serious? Why would I stick a sceptor into a perfectly fine swap slot? I can just use a vendor kit and salvage the scepter for dark matter. Vendor kit prolly more dps than a scepter, plus I can still have good melee weapons slotted. Or even a staff for group run speed. A scepter??

First, you gotta specify if you are talking about pve or pvp. Pvp I know nothing about as I find both spvp and wvw as boring as throwing rocks in a river.

Let me answer you question since it seems like you never bothered to read what you just quoted.

“In situations where I definitely have to go ranged”

Also, scepter does a ton of dmg for it being a RANGED weapon. Obviously NOT a replacement for melee weapons.

Equipping a staff for the sole purpose of grp speed run is so worthless I do not even take the time to do so in PVE. Other classes can do it better than Guardians can without sacrificing 99% of dps. Sure I can unequip it and equip something else….but why bother? The only exceptions where staff is better is for farming events (leeching) and TA dungeon to run through the skippable parts (then instantly it goes back into my bag).

Just held my own against 2 guardians on a non-bunker staff ele in sPvP. So I’d say their damage leaves something to be desired…

I had to read your post twice because you have decided to move the goal post from Staff Guardian is garbage in pve to Staff Ele is awesome in pvp. That’s what you call grasping at straws.

Note* Im not saying Staff Ele in pve is bad. I am trying out a new build I found for Staff Ele and so far, while boring to play, deals pretty high dmg. Skill 2 on fire attunement is pretty awesome.

Reasonable? You loose total track of our conversation? You called me out on TA aetherblade boss, said 15s etc. I’m talking about the difficulty with warrior vs. guard vs. whatever, hard content etc etc etc. I gave three content examples, you called out my TA aetherblade path and said like pfff 15 seconds! Then you use a random kitten (as in little kitty) video to make some point… nothing of which to the actual conversation. And you believe you are being “reasonable”? Yes, I lack “something” here, a two way conversation lol
Moving on now heh

I said you can kill most of the dungeon bosses, including new ta path in 15s without using just warriors with mesmer and guardian. I see it’s a hard concept to grasp.

So throw out insults when all else fails? Yes, kitten bosses can be killed fast, your video proves that, as if it mattered to anything pertaining to the actual conversation. So you are saying that is the TA aetherblade boss? Legendary Clockheart? You “can” do that room in 15s you are saying. I can throw a rock at the moon. Where is the video? And you said doing it with melee. I never said bosses cant be done in 15s, I pointed to specific content, you are adding something entirely different to what has been said. That doesn’t work with me.

tl;dr

me: Guard is at a disadvantage due to lack of ranged attack. Such as on the TA aetherblad path boss, I had to fall back with my warrior a bit and use blood rifle, to not take the huge hits it deals.

You: I said you can kill most of the dungeon bosses, including new ta path in 15s without using just warriors with mesmer and guardian. I see it’s a hard concept to grasp. (provides video of some other kitten fight)

The only real addition to the game was fractals, new tier set, useless WvW fluff, boring new hard teq fight (for some reason its not an instance raid), boring new TA dungeon that no one wants to do after they got the achievements, and some quality of life improvements that should have been there since release.

Its been a bit over a year since GW2 was released and literally the core game has mostly stayed the same. Such a shame as this game has a ton of potential only Anet don’t know where to take the game ever since fractals came out.

If you don’t want to believe me, make a post in the dungeon forum asking them what you’ve asked here and I’m sure you’ll get a response. I haven’t got access to a computer capable of running GW2 at the moment so I can’t test it.

You’re the one making the claim and demanding it is accepted as truth, so you’ve the burden to prove it.
You can’t demand that we just “believe it”, take your word for it.

That is just an unexplained list of arbitraty numbers.
No mention on how he got them, what traits/gear used, for how long the test occurred, what situations he tested, what rotation he used, etc.
Hell, there is no video evidence that he actually did any testing at all.

If you buy into stuff just because “this guy said this” it’s ok, but you can’t expect it to be a norm.

Make a thread on the dungeon forum, I insist.

The whole mini system in GW2 is boring because they put most of them in the gem-store so where is the fun in collecting them?

Then many other where linked behind temporary content what is also boring.

It’s to bad Anet wants to use the cash-shop to make money instead of using expansions. Thats why they do these thinks and it’s not good / fun for the game itself.

My biggest problem about mini pets is that:

1) They do not have their own spot in your inventory space, thus taking a spot in your bag.

2) They disappear way to quickly.

Guardians are good but they’re not always wanted. In terms of damage spikes and low hp, I find very few besides warrior or necro have a higher hp pool than them. Even then, none of those two classes have the capability guardian does to keep their hp at 80 % and above most of the time. Also16k is enough to absorb most spikes imo

Where you get 16k of health? My Guardian only has a bit more than 13k health (checking inside LA).

Guardians do similar dmg to warriors but bring support utilities rather than buffs like Warriors do. Since they have so little HP they stay alive through active defenses (wor, blinds, virtues, and shield of wrath) and through passive defenses (virtues, aegis), whereas Warriors stay alive through big HP pool.

So without going into what other classes can bring to the table in a dungeon run, minus necros which are just bad. Having a Guardian and Warrior combo will give you more dmg than a 2x Guardian combo.

I am currently running the following specs and get insane lag during major event’s on max setting’s.

Intel I5 2500k OC to 4.0ghz Processor
16 gigs of DDR3 Memory
256 gb Samsung 840 pro SSD Harddrive
MSI AMD HD 7870 Graphics card

all teamed up on a Z77 gigabyte motherboard.

My spec’s while not top of the line are not slouching either and will lay waste to 90% of the system’s this game is run on. I have to agree there is room lots of room to optimize the game.

My best guess as to why this and a lot of other updates are being put on hold are because of the 2 week living story updates. There has yet to be a 2 week update that does not come with multiple game breaking bugs.

The havok engine that GW2 uses for all of its physics calculations + AI is owned & operated from intel. It is notorious for performing poorly on AMD GPUs.

The resolution for your monitor plays a large part on the fps. What resolution are you running the game in? Because I highly doubt you are playing with max settings with a monitor of 1080p or more with your set up and getting smooth 60fps in high density fights.

I run 1920×1080 on an Asus VS248H-P 24-Inch Full-HD LED Monitor

I DO disable post-processing, but that’s mainly because the game just looks a whole helluva lot better without it.

and you get smooth 60fps in high density fights? I find that hard to believe…..or your system was what Anet optimized their game on.

I have a much more powerful computer than you in all areas. I play at 2560×1440 and no way can I play in high (all) settings while getting 60fps in high density fights.

I will have to test playing at 1080p to be sure though.
