I got Zap in a random mob drop and forged The Hunter (2.7K hours in game, 134% MF and I’ve spent around $800 on gems in 14 months). I tried for a second hunter to sell (I love the skin so my charr warrior has it) and went through almost 4000 mastercraft rifles without a second hit. The first one took close to 3000 MC rifles.
I don’t buy rares as the sheer volume needed is nearly impossible to afford, the rifles were 1.99S each and RNG is RNG. I just boiled down the MCs to rares and then the rares to exotics. I average 6-8 rares per 100 MCs and about 5 exotics from 100 rares. It takes a TON of time and patience but it does happen.
One quick question, are you addicted to other forms of gambling? There’s a program for it, it sounds like you are looking for help.
hes not really gambling, its just way more effecient. You can do no gambling at all and make money on the TP, consistently and without fail. The only question is how much you will make. You can make money by selling at certain times and buying at certain times. You can make money taking advantage of inconsistencies in crafting.
Now if you do these safe ways, your top end isnt as great, you may only make like 10-12 gold an hour, and maybe 8 gold on bad days. But thats on par with the best farms in the game, and blows interesting/challenging play out of the water.
Funny, I am trying to assist the OP and you are giving reasons why he should still “play the ponies”. Playing the TP, in any way, is speculative. That means it’s an odds based outcome where there are winners and losers and rarely people who break even. If that’s not gambling (per Merriam Webster):
: to play a game in which you can win or lose money or possessions : to bet money or other valuable things
: to risk losing (an amount of money) in a game or bet
: to risk losing (something valuable or important) in order to do or achieve something
then I must not understand the English language very well.

…then at some point laurels aren’t needed, which of course, with 500JC and account bound trinkets kind of makes the best use of laurels almost unnecessary.
I was thinking this same thought with the dye announcement. The need for laurels most certainly seems to be phasing out. It reminds me of the karma nerf and now champs won’t drop gold….it appears as though we are headed to a single currency market except for dungeon tokens. Gold/gems.
EDIT: for clarity as gems and gold are synonymous

the new feature patch looks more like a maintance patch so far, totally overhyped
A long overdue patch…..hence the extreme posting on these boards. They are satisfying the majority of existing players and laying out an “exciting” game for those on the fence between Sk_rim and GW2. They cannot make everyone happy as that is impossible, I think the changes are good for the game while not sacrificing too much.
Another thought, the shared WXP also begs the question of whether ranks will still be displayed since they will become rather useless. I build a new toon and they have 400 rank points to distribute…..guess that bronze general won’t be expecting that when he’s rolled by an assaulter
(edited by Cassocaster.4576)
Any predictions on what this will do to the legendary market, I know this isn’t the market channel but making them less unique will drop their prices, no??
For the love of god do NOT listen to these guys. After the patch goes live the market will be flooded with unid dyes. Prices will drop and stabilize after a week or so. These guys only want you to buy the dyes they are selling.
If the credited dyes are account bound you won’t have a flood at all, I would imagine dyes will not be marketable until after they have been discovered…..
Highly doubt it. Unless they make the identified dyes unmarketable too it would be meaningless to make the unid dyes account bound.
Please notice I said credited dyes…not all.
Don’t worry, you could have never sold all of those dyes in time before the crash anyways. Unless you would have already had them listed at 10s, which doesn’t really make much sense unless you are psychic.
I never saw anything like the feeding frenzy this morning, kittening banana and natural dyes were being sold for 50 silver, it was CRAZY. The piranha ate the cow in like 20 minutes and then it was over….nothing left but bones.

The supply will drop and the demand will drop too. So the final price of uni dyes will be questionable. Currently expecting dyes to increase in price for awhle not sure what will happen after the update. But you can still get uni dyes for laurels.
I have to agree with this point. We’re looking at half a million unidentified dyes landing with this patch AND a shared dye system. I don’t see any way that the market can recover from this in the short term. When I get the 100 duplicate dye credits and I have every dye that I would want, what’s the driver to buy more dye? I can only see the ultra rares holding any value to any leveled character/player. New players, however, are going to pay through the nose to get where we all are. ANet was smart with this, they keep the existing player base pacified, to a point, and they train the new crop of players to learn to pay with gems….
Like or not, this was a checkmate move.
Your gifted unidentified dyes will have the same chance to produce ultra rares as always. Consider the dye market crushed and gutted except for something like Celestial, Molten, etc. Even those will drop considerably. There is an 8 page thread on this here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Dye-Changes-Feedback-Questions/first
Ask a simpler question: Is an unidentified dye worth more or less after the April 15th change?
The answer is more, because 1) No more random drops, 2) Every dye now works for all characters.
Now, how much more is another question.
I highly doubt this in the short term. In order to see unid’d dyes as high as they went today will be 6-12 months out. My two mains have nearly every dye unlocked, I will likely get around 100 unidentifieds when they credit us for our dupes. I am just one person, if players have 2 more or dupes you are talking about 100K unidentified dyes, at least and I would venture it will be closer to 250K or even half a million. All at once. Only the ultra dyes will have any value whatsoever and that will only be to new players.
People who are holding dyes should sell them as prices are only going to plummet post patch.
I will say that I have bought almost the entire supply of masterwork rifles listed under 2 silver hoping for a second Hunter to sell…..I equipped the first because I love the weapon. Once the remaining 3000 or so are gone I will have effectively raised the cost of masterwork rifles, if only a smidge.
I only had a handful and made 10 gold in less than 5 minutes…..suh-weet
I have never seen such a feeding frenzy. Buttercream selling for 50 silver, holy kitten!
First time ever, I blue screened while at the Mystic Forge. Full memory dump, only thing running was GW2. i5 quad core, running Win 7, 8 GB of DDR5 and a radeon 7850 MSI TwinFrozr video card.
This is after running the patch build from March 24th…..
Personalization…this isn’t some dress up doll game where we try to make our characters as close as to our imagined self as possible.
!!!!! What a great psychological study this could provoke!
You’re saying personalization isn’t a part of why you like this game or that it isn’t important? EVERYTHING about character development is about how your toon looks, everything. Dyes, which armor set, etc. If you can honestly say that you don’t care how your toon looks, then okay, my question isn’t relevant. I asked a real question and for 10% of this game population, it may mean something.
I guess I set a spark down, thought I was making a camp fire but half the forest is burning….you’ll notice that I know the technological limitations are there. I seriously would be happy if my my Charr simply shouldered her rifle to the left or my necro actually led with the ascended dagger I put in her left paw/hand or what ever Asurans have.
At the end of the day though, I have played the game for well over a year and my game play is not impacted, obviously, it’s just a cosmetic thing.
(edited by Cassocaster.4576)
How does this relevant to this thread?
Since it’s my thread, I find it very relevant and by your response you aren’t left handed. We can personalize almost every aspect of this game, dyes, hairstyles, weapon choices, sex of our toons, profession, what else can we do?
I am asking a rhetorical question as I know that technically it would be very difficult, you’d have to create 2 mappings for every configuration. Personalization is the basis for this game’s attraction AND if you aren’t interested, why did you bother to post in a thread you didn’t think was important?
“I also spent around 500g once to try to manipulate Tarragon just to see, if its possible.
I actually managed to raise the price by 100% but at the new price, the demand wasnt high enough to dump my whole stock back into the market and i made a loss in the end.”
I realize what an amateur I am when I read something like this….how gold do you have Wanze? (rhetorical)
Turn your monitor upside down. Boom, left handed.
Put your monitor next to a mirror.
Typical righty response…..guess the map will have to be reflected twice.
Okay, this may seem to be silly but why can’t we pick if our characters are left or right handed? Being left handed I’ve had to adapt my whole life (not whining, just stating fact) and I get into this game and every character is right handed even with left handed names, like southpaw.
What gives ANet, surely some of the devs are lefties?
An hour a day farming a lucrative zone will turn into at least 45 gold a week. It’s funny to me but I see people node farming, avoiding mobs or even single NPCs and don’t understand that you actually have to fight to get drops….seriously, fight EVERYTHING from the southern most point of Cursed all the way to Malchors. It will take any hour, 90 minutes tops, and your inventory will be full.
NCSoft earned $32 million US 4th quarter of last year off of GW2. That is above and beyond operational and development costs, they also beat expectations. Their system not only works, it works well.
What are our schools teaching kids these days
Yeah, i wonder. Looking at some posts i guess it is “if you work for something, your reward should be even more work, and if you disagree you are lazy”. Apparently there are people that forget that playing games should be fun.
The OP was stating that the gold he/she had felt as though it has lost value which, due to moderate inflation, is likely true. I don’t recall that the OP didn’t want to farm but they felt that it was getting harder. My interpretation, of course. I think what you are referring to are people who post about those that do not want to farm or salvage to earn money and expect that dawn will be in their inventory when they wake up in the morning.
The majority of the posts, including my earlier one, were about the solutions that would allow the OP to earn more gold. The game can be fun while you farm and the payoff just as good. Doing dungeons is hard work depending on who you group with but it’s still fun. I love farming cursed shore and in an hour can earn 3-4 gold with one pass, more if grenth or melandru pop while I am there. Provide a solution and don’t feed the trolls who want to bash the OP just because that’s what they do.
Price seems to be decreasing.
As it is want to do when people want to dump the rifle and take the cash and run. It’s a long term investment, not one that only takes a week to mature. The availability hasn’t increased and the number of people putting buy orders on it has. Remember, some of those lower priced rifles are likely there via someone who has already realized the potential and is attempting to manipulate the cost. Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself! If the ugliest skins, the super adventure box junk, can get as pricey as they are, I trust the rainbow will climb considerably.
Hello. In this topic we can discuss everything around the “world transfer”. What is your opinion? At which server you are going to transfer (if you like to)? Why you would do that? And because i feel like going to another server suggest me some servers and guild in it. Thank you!
Here’s an idea, randomly throw us all onto different servers every month…..as far as wanting to move, all servers have the same issues if these forums are any indication.
No. That would be horrendous for organization in WvW and it would destroy WvW guilds in general. You’re not looking at it from every perspective. Entirely destroying the WvW strategy, guilds, organization ect just so PVE isn’t as bad, maybe, doesn’t seem like a fair trade off to me.
It was meant to be tongue in cheek, it was my way of saying that running from a certain server won’t solve any issues….sorry it sounded serious.

With 40 gold you could forge runes and earn a pretty good return. Farm cursed shore, frost sound, fireheart. Run dungeons, run champ trains, farm iron (easily the most plentiful resource in Tyria), there are tons of things to earn money. 20 gold a day is simple, you just have to try.
With my acquisition from the forge yesterday, only took 3000 mastercraft rifles!! I give you, The Hunter:
lol refund? Na just remove them. (Ya i know they would for this because people spent real money on them but they never compensated people for removing their fractal levels or when removing glory converting the glory boosters into something of worth (after all they were obtained from achievement chests n stuff so way to give us a worthless reward))
I am not going to support any suggestion to break the law by proposing that ANet tries to screw their players by not giving them the goods they paid for after taking their money.
They did give you the item that you paid for, and now it is time for them to take it away, which I am pretty sure they can do legally because everything in the game is still their property and they can do with it as they want (pretty sure it says something along those lines in the ToS)
One of the things I believe is missing from this rather inflated and very long thread is that this MAY have been an attempt for ANet to ensure that sprockets would remain available for the future. The “basic” node kit also contains a sprocket generator in addition to the crystals for celestial crafting. They will not take these items away though I suppose they could return them to standard infinite harvesting tools.
As far as paying the cost back, I get about 60 sprockets a day from the pick, pretty close to a gold at today’s inflated sprocket prices. Not only will this pick pay for itself, it will likely pay for 2-3 of the other infinite harvesters I bought previously within a year.
I do not say this as troll bait or to start an argument as there is a very clear line between those angry about it and those that brag, which I am honestly not trying to do. I am just suggesting that this is, indeed, an item from the gem store that will return its’ cost of acquisition.
A pre-April fools joke??
Ironic that the name of the weapon gets a kitten…heh
Okay, here’s my question, if I have 2 weapons with the same sigil, does one get cancelled?
I purchased 2 “Maw of the kitten ed” axes for my Charr warrior. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Maw_of_the_kitten ed)
It was chosen by me because of the look of the weapon AND because of the superior sigil of force that it is born with and wanting a ’zerker weapon. My intention was to get 2 +5% damage boosts but I am not sure this will happen.
Can someone comment on this? TIA.
Gives a standing Applause my god, someone who bothers to make argument without insulting people.
I believe that most people WERE interested in what you had to say until you struck out at one of the best armchair economists on these boards with your “-you-” comment. In your response to JS I see what you are saying but it comes across as a martyr position: “I am standing up for the little guy who cannot afford these outrageous prices” when those people spend plenty of time yelling on their own. I applaud your integrity at saying those words if you are indeed looking to shelter those that cannot farm enough to get the weapon/armor they want but I think we both know that farming/salvaging isn’t so difficult that it keeps jute out of the hands of the huddled masses.
There are a ton of companies that set the minimum retail price of an item so undercutting doesn’t devalue their product and cause brand deterioration. Thing is, in GW2, the players decide what something is worth, not the trading post (as “the company”). When you shout out against the cost of what you perceive to be a simple item that costs too much, you are yelling at the players, not the TP.
Jute may not be worth 95C to you but to someone needing to craft through armorsmithing, etc; that jute IS worth that much because they need it to finish the job.
I had a boss that sold super expensive travel packages and his saying was “you can never spend other people’s money”, that statement is very relevant to your post.
I see the OP has evaporated. Guess facing the scrutiny of the game’s chief economist and soothsayer was too much.
Did you know that sales means nothing when looking at activity? ESPECIALLY in a B2P model with no subscription.
Well, it’s the only measurable metric that’s released from ANet. If you can get actual usage history, please post it, otherwise your comment is pure hyperbole.
No wonder there’s no one, this game is dying… Even on Desolation, the biggest server, there are fewer people nowadays.
Why people continue to think this is beyond me….this boss has never been a draw, ever. Please see this from NCSoft’s earning report filed the beginning of this year:
Guild Wars 2 earned 33.6 Billion Won = 31.58 Million USD up from Q3s 22.94 Million USD and exceeding sales expectations for Q4
Trust me, this game is doing fine.
To the OP, I am really sorry you got that close, it is sad indeed though me thinks there was a bit of anger as well.
It’s Asuran….’nuff said given the technological wunderkinds they are.
I level and explore alone, do my monthlies and dailies alone but play with a small group (literally 5 of us) on game night every week. It’s a bit like having drinks with friends but we’re all drinking virtually…..well, maybe not.
There will be a mad rush at first, anyone who got one in a drop and doesn’t know what they have is going to sell it when they see what people are paying. Living Story is now over, finis…Scarlet dead and gone so this rifle should never, never be available again. As far as skins, they always release new skins but now the focus will be WvW as season 2 looms, I wouldn’t expect anything new for a while.
Fused skins are going for over 300….I feel safe that in a few weeks these will begin to climb. They better, I convinced a guildie they’re a good investment after buying one myself….
Getting mad because “it’s not fair” is ridiculous, failure to see the potential in this pick was a very common mistake
So how is that different from straight-out converting that 1000 gems into gold instead of buying the pick. How many watchwork sprockets would that 1000 gems (converted to gold) get you compared to buying the pick?
Of course people who have 1000 gems can always convert that to a significant amount of gold, with or without the pick. But we already know that don’t we?
well, 65 gold for the gems would give me about 6300 sprockets, at today’s prices but your question was likely rhetorical. As I stated, I didn’t get the pick because of the sprockets and were it not for the ascended spinal guard as part of the final Scarlet LS, I might not have even paid them any mind. I guess what I am trying to understand is why people even care. If a friend and I buy lottery tickets and he wins and I don’t, I am happy for them, not mad. I am not comparing the pick to a lottery ticket but all I see in this rather long thread is people upset their infinite harvesting items don’t give a kick back.
As far as your gold comment, 1000 gems is a very small amount of gold in the big picture and cost about $12US. People probably spend more on coffee in a couple days….
(edited by Cassocaster.4576)
Since I spent 190 gold on Scarlet’s Rainbow this morning, I only have 150 gold. I have 23K ore in speculation for JC500 which could be liquidated today for around 265 gold. Another 200 in various mats and un-bound drops and 1500 gems. So, maybe 600 gold total?
There was a car maker in America once, they car they made got better gas mileage and was safer and was competitive to any vehicle created by Ford, Chevy or Chrysler. It was the “Tucker”, they failed because the public didn’t recognize the potential in the vehicle and because this “start-up” company was an unknown.
This watchwork pick is a lot like the car because it took a good idea (infinite harvesting tools or assembly line cars) and made it better. As sprockets approach 1.2S, I realize that this pick is the only one I have purchased that will pay for itself in any other fashion than saved inventory space/convenience and time.
One last analogy, I bought an Apple G3 years ago, awesome computer, super fast and very expensive, I think I paid $2800US for it back in 2002ish, if memory serves. 2 weeks after I bought it, the G4 was released. I was kittened because here comes the next best thing and I have another 12 months to pay for second best.
Did ANet make a mistake with the pick? Yup, the blowback was insane which is why the new sickle is the same vanilla as the molten/bone shard/chop it all variants. Should people who bought the pick feel bad because they were lucky enough to buy the “Tucker” of harvesting tools? No way. Sprockets can get to 5S and I won’t feel guilty.
Getting mad because “it’s not fair” is ridiculous, failure to see the potential in this pick was a very common mistake and I didn’t get the pick because of the sprockets, I got it because it looks cool. ANet tested the waters and pulled back from building more Tuckers and went back to building Fords. How this pick ultimately gives someone an advantage as a player and not as a gold gatherer is beyond me, get over it and move on.
For full transparency, I own 5 salvage-matics, 3 bone picks, a molten pick, the silly jack in the box scythe, the aetherblade scythe, the chop it all axe and the toxic axe. All my toons have the infinite tools in some fashion though not all have all infinite harvesting tools.
Only 1 under 200 left….highest priced lister has it at 800, must be pretty confident if they are going to drop 40 gold in listing fees. Got mine for 189….crossing my fingers
The core volatility is extreme, I wouldn’t sell until people find the shard vendor….for transparency, I sold mine yesterday morning for just under 3G a piece. I had listed them just as the massive swings were starting to take place.
If I wanted a new race, I would roll another toon. I have a Sylvari ranger that has world completion but my main now is a Charr guard, he only has 40% but do I need more than that to play the game, nope because I have most of the waypoints, I just ignored vistas and pois.
Just make another character, you can level a toon in a week, hell, a weekend.
Honestly, it’s fine with me if they just reset the points for each character at the beginning of each season, I took my main and reallocated a bunch of points away from what I thought were correct choices but were revealed to be bad as the nature of the season wore on. Also, a tough thing for consolidation is the fact that people have deleted characters that had WXP. How do you reallocate what you don’t have any more?
