9/10. Love the color coordination with Monsoon and the look is very unique, nice job.
My guardian, Ponce De Lion, midnight fire highlights with white main. Vigil gauntlets, boots and shoulders. Draconic helm and karma remainder (“dark” for leggings, not sure on the chest piece family).
Thanks to everyone for posting their RNG results. Through this type of collaboration we can actually set expectations appropriately and help others see that the RNG gods impact us all no matter what the volume. Nice work.
At 121 gold per set you should have put more planning into the outcome. If you knew you would be storing it, why did you equip it? It would have still given you the achievement without wearing the armor…..you just have to buy it.
Defeating the encounter>your desire to be a special snowflake
It’s called teamwork. If you can’t or won’t accept that, feel free to go back to the queensdale train. Not wasting an hour just to wipe because a few people won’t fall in line.
Wow….“because a few people won’t fall in line”
Which line are you talking about ’cuz I am going to stay away from that one, your bias towards what you “think” is correct is obvious and playing along side of you will likely earn me more “castigation” than I currently desire. Go run a dungeon instead of trying to change a very public event to your individual whim.
You’re aware that every successful MMO in the history of mankind has meta builds right?
How is this helpful in the least?
Here let me help you. I’m not invoking an economy discussion. I’m asking for a T6 evaluation.
“Can we get a look into the [T6] drops of these mats outside of champ boxes and estimate where it could be vs where it is?”
Here is a post I did on 1499 heavy moldy bags….I have to assume all of these came from Orr but I bought them via the TP. You can see what dropped for tier 6 out of those bags to see what happens outside of boxed events. Even if this is a microcosmic look at the RNG universe, the number of bags opened should provide a decent expectation for this item. I am working on a medium loot bag evaluation as well, that post will be up soon.
As far as I can see, there is no “you have to be sporting this build” sign to ride this ride for those events so bring whatever build you want. The proliferation of cookie cutter builds has been going for the entire year I have been playing this game and god forbid someone catches you using runes of the ranger on a guardian. You can choose to listen to those people or you can ignore them and continue to play as you wish.
If a mob mentality exists where driving only certain builds should take part in an event, that event will begin to fail more and more because regular players won’t go where they’re being berated publicly for bringing their favorite toon.
You players espousing the necessity of certain builds (or blaming everyone but Warriors and Guardians when things fail) are cutting your own throats. There are plenty of champ trains for those that want to have fun while they play, they don’t need you as much as you need them, don’t forget that lest you just run on empty. Been to a scarlet event lately? Deadsville.
Look, there are serious players who don’t want to burn time so they pressure others to step in line so they can get the giant carrot at the end of the wurms or the marionette or in WvW or where-ever. People can tow the line or they can think for themselves, I prefer the latter.
That being said, there are a TON of builds out there that have been optimized by those very same serious players that DO WORK as intended. You may think you truly understand the science behind builds but there are people who do nothing but data mine until that perfect combo comes up. They want to share that with the world but they miss that it is the player that makes the build, not the other way around. Don’t be afraid of trying something new but do it because the build enhances YOUR style of play.
certain dyes i could see being account bound but as stated earlier: it is profitable for anet to have people buying dyes from the gem store.
if they made unique dye for say a meta event then it better be account wide dye, maybe even with the exclusive dyes (as in molten toxic and such)
maybe even some rare dyes should be account bound (such as abyss and celestial)
I would be happy if they made just rare dyes account bound. If I spend 30 gold for Abyss, it should be for everyone now and future. Everything else is affordable so just limit the account bound dyes to the rares….
God I wish….I have bought midnight fire twice, white twice, oil slick and pitch 3X each…..and molten, abyss, midnight purple….arghhhhhh. <Casso collapses in heap>
One could always guest on a States bound server and buy your gems there? Not even sure if that sort of thing would work……
Did you know that in game range units are in inches?
600 units is 50ft
1200 is 100ft
This is very helpful…..I never knew this. Thanks.
As far as someone saying it’s the same as 6 feet under, no. If you are excited and just got might, do you feel dead? If so, that might be used explain that state of SBI’s zerg.
I would ask why you aren’t interested in leveling the toons you have already begun? Necro can be a blast to play. I have three mains, a ranger, a guardian and a necro. I enjoy the ranger the most, just my preference, but the necro is super lethal in full zerker gear and matched with great ranged AoE. Perhaps it’s the race of the characters?
Let me remind you this is also supposed to be a “casual” game without vertical progression. A casual game means a casual player can play for a little bit every now and then and not have to feel left behind. And at this point it’s hard to call it a casual game, more like a casual gold-grind to buy materials for unrealistic recipes from greedy people jacking up prices.
You do realize you contradict yourself in this paragraph, right? If the game is “casual” to you then why do you feel the need to get ascended armor? You are playing both sides of your own coin.
I have 2260 hours in 350 days, I play a LOT and I am not pursuing ascended armor. Why? Because of what you outlined, the return for the effort is not worth my time, not for less than 5% gain over exotic. Ascended weapons are a completely different animal but that’s not your discussion point.
The game is what you make it, you can have it be as casual as you want it but don’t complain that others chase the ascended and that the TP is to blame for you not getting what you want. I find my drop rates to be acceptable and I farm entire zones with multiple toons, I have a ton of mats that I have collected over a period of time. Why do you think ANet time gated the ascended mats? To give players a chance to collect the materials and make the item.
Your anger, at this point, is palpable in what you write as a response and this makes it a personal issue and not one that has anything to do with the game. I can see you are frustrated with what you perceive to be a problem but realize that the issue stems not from the TP but from something called entitlement.
I would venture that you look at your world map. There’s a huge water color in the middle for something…..plus numerous areas that look to be slots for future expansion. I think ANet is smart by limiting what is released to a trickle. LS might not be for everyone, I don’t like a lot of what is offered but there is so much content that I simply try a different toon and profession when I tire of my mains.
It IS a problem, actually, because they CAN do this not due to “laws of economics” but because you can’t farm anything in this game realistically, so we’re forced to buy it. Jacking up the prices 10-fold is still better than trying to farm most mats.
Please give me an example of something you cannot farm efficiently. Giant eyes? Okay, fair. Iron ore? Silk? Linen? Wool? Platinum? Soft wood? Tons of places to farm these either from nodes or mob drops. The TP provides convenience that you pay for. Flippers don’t create people who don’t want to grind for their mats, the players are responsible for that one.
I grow tired of people blaming speculation for what they themselves are willing to pay. I cannot make you buy something at a set price, that’s your decision. If you claim you cannot be competitive without the TP I will also state that that’s hogwash. There’s nothing in the game you cannot grind out, nothing EXCEPT gem store items and you can convert your gold if you want to so even that is possible through grinding.
You don’t have the time? You don’t want to grind? You pay the going rate or place custom offers at the price you are willing to pay. Stop blaming people who take the time to grind or those that spend a ton of time calculating what will provide profit for them. Even flippers sink gold by relisting the item they bought at a higher price and then pay 5% on a larger amount of gold.
If people have more gold than fits in one account, which I didn’t know was a problem until this post, then so be it, why begrudge someone’s good fortune?
In creating their pile of wealth, what have they taken from you? Can you quantify it or is it pure hyperbole or the traditional have and have not sentiment?
Ole Bully has that sword :d had to brighten the pic up a bit as it was night time in LA :P
That does look pretty good….wish I had seen this before I spent 3 gold on the Breath of Flame. Thanks for the post….
I would say I am upwards of $500-$600, maybe a little more. I like to use gems for bank expansions, character slots, BLTC keys though that’s stopped now that they nerfed the chests. Anything, like the infinite picks, sickles and axes, dye kits, mystic stones or fun things like the Quaggan backpack and Mr Sparkles for buying 4000 gems in a month.
One thing that people have missed is that the gem costs haven’t changed yet. I think a 1200 gem card is $15US, it is BY FAR the cheapest manner to gain currency in game.
Before you say “the grind” is free, ask how much money you make an hour. If it’s more than $15 than you should be buying gems and converting them if you are grinding for gold, time is not a free commodity.
People spend a lot of time saying this is a mistake without seeing the change at work. How do you know? Max 10% DPS reduction? Max? What if your (yes, I am talking to all you ‘zerkers) implementation only causes 4% or 5%. I don’t think you are going to see that big of an increase in time spent mauling something. Though, I cannot know this until I see it.
If you proclaim this a failure before it’s introduced you have set a thought in place that will remain even if there is only a neglible impact. Don’t worry for naught lest it ruin your play time now.
I have a necro that’s equipped with Berzerker gear (including an ascended amulet and an ascended staff) but traited for toughness and blood magic just so you know that I have some skin in the game.
The sclerite 1h sword sort of fits the description, but it also has an eye and is hard to obtain.
I know I am in the minority when I say I like scelerite skins. This one, however, has a very celtic pommel and I don’t think it would work but thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
If you’re trying to get close to that picture, you’re about as good as you’re gonna get.
Might be worth looking at http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Naga_Fang or the order of whispers greatsword, both give me more of a “Samurai” vibe.
That blade is very cool. Kind of a cross between a scimitar and a katana. Thank you, I will preview it….
I have a female Norn with heavy armor and the primeval skins from the gem store. She’s not muscled but she’s tall. The armor looks pretty good to me. Big huge Norns are tough to move around and see around. Before you create the Hulk, think about where you are going to be playing, big, wide toons are a pain to climb or jump to vistas with.
I was building my Charr’s look, I was going for this devil motif but as I was building him, he looked more and more like a Samurai. I started messing with items, transmuting where necessary so I maintained exotic level pieces. I went with Enduring chest piece and leggings (also known as “dark”). The gauntlets are Vigil, the pauldrons are barbaric, boots are plate, and the helm is draconic. He is colored with cinnamon, pitch and midnight rust dyes.
So…a Samurai needs a sword and unfortunately (ANet, please listen), there’s no Katana so I had to find a weapon that was sort of close and decided on the “Breath of Flame” great sword.
So, help me out here, are there alternatives for any of the pieces that get me closer to the image below my Charr? I am happy with the colors….
Okay, to answer the question for the OP. First, use magic boosters if you have them, they work. Second, for profitability of the mats, Orr. Is your toon leveled? If so, and you have map completion that allows it, farm Orr but not just resource nodes, fight everything. I’ve found Orr and the events in Orr to provide some of the best gear drops of any zone. Frostgorge is decent and don’t forget Southsun. If you have any question of that, check the price history of karka shells….
Also your remarks about spvp are false; the system was designed the way it is to put people on an even level playing field for the sake of better balance. You’re still supposed to earn rewards hence rank points and Glory. Just saying
It was not meant in a derogatory manner though reading it back I can see how it could be interpreted in that fashion. What I meant was your exotic level gear is waiting for you there, in any combination, so a person can have their dream build without crafting, praying to RNG or buying it. As you know, the PvE or WvW environments don’t play by those same rules and the design of the game is meant to grind while exploring in order to get gold to upgrade in order to stay competitive.
Hence my comment on earning the achievements outside of PvP. I don’t expect anyone to restrict my comfort zone but I also don’t complain that people have 500+ AP from jumping puzzles and I am horrible at them so cannot earn those points without more work that I am used to.
Thanks for the info. I guess that player who has the Immobulus on the wiki is a very lucky person indeed. At this point I would have to say that the Immobulus is in a tier far above legendary (which are far too abundant to be special).
nah, i crafted the immobulus yesterday and it took about 4 days to get 250 giant eyes from the TP with buy orders. i put in buy orders around 1.2 gold each (most buy orders were around the 1 gold mark) because i quickly grew tired of outbidding the other buyers who were upping my bids by 1c multiple times each night.
there’s usually less than 300 giant eyes on the TP at any given time, but there are plenty just sitting in player’s inventories, ready to sell when the buy orders are listed at a decent price point.
This was about the drop rate, not the buy rate which is always 100%. The poster you quoted is saying the ability to farm the eyes for the weapon is an RNG nightmare compared to what’s needed for a legendary and I tend to agree. Anything is possible with gold, I am trying to determine what my expectations should be (and help others see their own chances) based on a fixed number of bags, whether purchased or acquired through game play.
Did you put in buyorders for the bags or bought directly?
The lowest buy offer was 2 copper below the current sell price, there was no gap so I just bought them. They averaged about 5.8 silver per bag (1500 bags @ 87 gold). This was an experiment about the drop rates and not about making money, I am actually glad I didn’t lose more, I was set to lose about 10 as an acceptable amount for the test.
Tbh I wouldn’t mind some extra rewards! I have just over 1007 hours played but it was all spent in spvp so all I have to show for it are 2.5k achiv points and a handful of armour sets for each armour type…few weapon skins…41 rank points that basically do nothing. Not even any skill points to unlock the new healing abilities
If you park yourself in an arena for all of your game time, you haven’t explored and more than half of the achievements are geared towards exploration, killing different creatures and completion of events and hearts.
I have 2250 hours in game, I’ve gotten one precursor (Zap), about 50 exotic drops and a handful of super rare dyes. But, drops come from fighting and if you don’t fight outside the arena, nothing will drop to you at all (for example I have every slayer achievement except Jotuns and Giants, that’s around 20K documented creature kills, each with the chance for a drop).
Your rewards are the fact that you don’t have to work for your gear, you go into PVP and have everything, it’s like God mode in Quake/Doom. This can lull a person into complacency outside that arena so rewards could seem pale in PvE in comparison.
No achievements in PvE means you haven’t earned those rewards…go fight the mobs!!!
If the droprate of Giant Eyes isnt high enough for you, just go out in the world and try to find the Inquest Asurans that drop Bags of Laboratory Material, which currently has 37 buy orders sitting at over 1.5g (11g lowest seller), then buy giant eyes from the profit.
-checks gw2tp- O.o
What the heck? Why are people paying that much for those bags? I can’t think of anything that drops from a T3 lootbag that’s worth so much…
Follow up as well. Everything sold from the bags AT A LOSS of 6 gold. That’s not that bad for the amount of data I got. Considering it’s a RNG engine, that’s within 10% of purchase price AND I lost 15% to BLTP. Those out there that say flipping is bad for the economy, my loss makes your money stronger, if only microscopically.
Without the fees the gross sale and the actual items cost break even so I got the value I paid but with no time to allow the mats to grow value, they sold immediately for the loss.
EDIT: (clarified drop rate calculation)
Based on 1499 bags opened, my drop rate for giant eyes is slightly higher with what ANet says it should be. At .002% (2 tenths of 1%), that works out to 2 per thousand bags…..
(edited by Cassocaster.4576)
Large Moldy Bags only drop t5 fine mats, no tier 4. Medium Moldy Bags drop t4 and t5.
Is there a link to the breakdown? I had thought they just tiered downward, overlapping, as the heavy ones do. More research needed, man there is a lot to this game.
Actually… it looks a LOT like you’re opening a bag of the wrong tier – the three Giant Eye had the same frequency as the three tier 5 putrid dusts, while you got 30 tier 6 rare dusts.
Heavy carries both tier 5 and tier 6 with a prevalence towards 5. I will say that when I got a decent RNG roll (powerful blood, for example), I would often get 2 of that item. I noted it on ancient bone, powerful venom sacks, armored shell and powerful blood.
I am going to do this again with the same number of large moldy bags and see, those will have tier 4 and 5, again, leaning towards the lower tier 2 times out of 3. I will post the results and clean it up so all you see are the bags and the contents, first time at this sort of thing.
I got nothin’……<Casso looks at feet>
I would add that you should probably stagger your upgrades at lower levels since gold is hard to earn at first (everything scales so what you earn at level 25 by doing an event jumps with your level as you do that event again). Upgrade your entire set now if your gear is not level 25.
Then, around 30, add an entire set of trinkets (amulet, 2 rings, 2 earrings and a back piece). At 35, swap out your armor and weapons. 40, your trinkets again.
If you stay with green items (mastercraft), most everything will be 2 silver or less, the trinkets may be a touch more, this also scales with level.
On a side note, this is about the point where you want to start thinking about crafting some of the things you need, like armor. Pick your crafting disciplines to support your character’s class. If you are a warrior, be an armorsmith and a jeweler OR weaponsmith. A mesmer, a tailor and a jeweler OR an artificer. You get the point.
Okay. There has been a bunch of chatter about drop rates, and what exactly will drop from heavy moldy bags. This started with a discussion about the Immobulous recipe requiring 250 giant eyes (ridiculously difficult to get) and spun into other threads.
People were stating how many hours they played the game and what they had gotten (x precursors, x dyes, et al).
I had some extra gold and decided to take a stab at a bunch of heavy moldy bags. I bought 1500 of them, the cost was approximately 87 gold, just a handful of silver over. For full disclosure, I have 2246 hours in game over 344 days.
The bags themselves contained 45 silver and all of the following mats, including three giant eyes!! (I included an overlay of my bank tab to show my existing giant eyes, I have 6 now, 9 total since starting GW2) I have put everything but the giant eyes onto the TP to see if I gained money, lost money or broke even. I will post a follow up once everything has sold.
Super big thanks to Wanze for reminding me that the scroll wheel can be re-mapped to a macro…..my hand would be dead otherwise.
So if you want to know the droprates of Giant Eyes from Large and Heavy Moldy Bags, go ahead and buy 5k each.
Oof….400 gold for 10K moldy bags (current sell price). My heart is having palpitations at the thought of opening that many bags…..my poor mouse hand.
Alot of Lootbags actually yield a profit, if you buy them on buy order and sell the loot undercutting the lowest seller. Right now those profit margins are pretty slim though, as their prices went up during the last 2 months thanks to asc armorcrafting.
For opening lootbags, i use an autoclicker macro. As it only does 1 keystroke per action and doesnt enable me to play elsewhere while opening containers, its use is legit according to Anets 3rd party program and macro policy outlined here by Gaile Gray: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Policy-3rd-Party-Programs-Multi-Boxing-Macros/first#post1532762
You can also bind left click to your mouse wheel.
Didn’t know about the mouse wheel, very cool. I know the bags can be profitable over a large amount of them. One armored shell will pay for 6 bags, a giant eye (should one be so lucky) will pay for 20. Tons of tier 6 mats are worth a lot. I could test 50 gold on it…see where I end up. Thanks for the link….

Not trying to derail the thread but how do you actually see the number of hours you’ve played?
In my time on the game I have gotten one precursor (zap); white, midnight fire, midnight red dyes (lots of other rares but nothing worth more than 75 silver); a dozen keys; about 50 exotics (never counted, this is a swag but is fairly close); 6 giant eyes; dozens of lodestones and a WHOLE lotta items that were only good enough to bolster my Magic Find to 119%. I do use a lot of magic find boosters since I will buy keys as a “lottery ticket” and end up tossing the useless and keeping convenience items like black lion or merchant vendors, bank access and any playing boosters except PVP glory.
You can type /age to see your time spent.
Also, you appear to be a very lucky player.
I saw your posts in the thread on Immobulous so you must be referring to the giant eyes. I spend a TON of time in Orr, I think the best drops come from there and on a good day, a person can easily end up with 100 moldy bags just running from one end to the other.
I got Zap after only 5 months in game, my guildies said it was a waste of a pre-cursor to bust my stones because not one of them had gotten anything close to that combined and they had played GW1 to completion before moving to GW2.
In full disclosure though, I have spent a lot of money on gems (none in the last 3 months because I have enough gold and my main toons (3) are all at exotic or better gear, mostly self crafted). They say money spent doesn’t affect RNG but who knows.

Hey!
So the Grenth armor is pretty much finished (if you were talking about the image attached)Head: Grenth Hood Skin (not available anymore from gemstore)
Shoulders: Deathly Mantle Skin (expensive skin on the TP)
Chest: Trickster’s Vest Skin (a part of this armor set on TP)
Hands: Masquerade Gloves (crafted)
Legs: Trickster’s Leggings Skin (same as vest)
Feet: ascended light boots
That image is crazy good……is this real or just a wish, the leggings are excellent as are the gauntlets.
I suppose that the true rarity of the key lies within the chest itself. The key is just a key, after all. So the true RNG of a key being WORTH as much as a precursor is RNG (for the key) * RNG (of the contents of the chest). That make sense or is it all just gibberish?
precursor by a factor of 100K times more rare than a key…..
For those players that play a lot and support the game, there should be exclusive rewards, like increased chance for precursors and some really cool prestigious armour and weapon skins. I’ve played heaps and never have i ever got a precursor and then there are these people with 200 hours that get precursors. oh and maybe even finishers, titles, armour repairs cost nothing and gold and gems.
Thanks for reading
While I agree there should be an achievement when reaching a play time milestone, what do you want to get? The only thing should be a title, no gear. The reason I say this is because of what was already posted, there’s no way to prove you were active. Now, if you created a combo where it said you’ve reached 1000 hours AND you have at least 5000 AP, that would suggest a lot of work but achievement points are already rewarded.
As far as never getting something that only drops once out of 100,000 drops, that reeks of entitlement and “deserving” that carrot. If you are playing for the carrot, you are playing for the wrong reason, IMO.
It’s gonna cost u hundreds of gold before u can get it. And u need to raise your armor crafting to 500. Getting one piece is hard enough but 5 or 6 wow just overwhelming. I got at lease 1500 golds and didn’t bother to craft these new armor because it’s just too overwhelming for me.
No one wants to hear this but stack your crafting materials while farming, don’t just sell them. Too many people sell everything to get liquid currency. It might be because they don’t want to buy bank expansion but the main cost of these ascended pieces is time, time spent gathering OR putting buy offers in well in advance of when you want to craft. The reason it’s expensive is because you don’t have the mats which are all free other than time spent gathering. If you lack bank space but have an alt toon, use them as a bank space, 5 15 slot bags are cheaper than the 800 gems to gain a tab in the bank.
To be honest, the ascended armor doesn’t give enough bang for the buck so I would just look for another skin you like, the performance gain is laughable so you are really crafting for a skin. You would do better to look through gw2armor.com’s gallery and find another option and just buy it, it would be much less expensive.
Does EotM really start tomorrow with the new build? I am sure there’s a related thread but I couldn’t find it.
Um….so…Charrs don’t breed? I’ve seen little ones around…are they hatched? I know, they have made a pact with the Asurans and babies are created in Zoija’s lab which is why Charrs are so grumpy.
I just wanted to say that I believe there is a rare quality soldier’s spine guard on the TP. Usually it’s fairly cheap, iirc
The cost, currently, is about 3.5 gold, for the rare version. The mastercraft version has 2 less power and 1 less vitality and toughness and only cost 15 silver. All I really wanted was something better than the junk one I had never replaced from the personal story gifting and to be sure I could get the celestial upgrade in there before I get to Grenth and pick up the karma version. Thanks for the info though, I do appreciate the help.
It’s actually lint from inside the bag or item you salvaged. Since lint can be dead skin, hair or any other substance, it had to go as unidentified. Good thing is 2 of them is a silver….they’re worth more than minor runes or sigils…go figure.
Some forge recipes are ridiculously expensive. I just created the Emerald Amulet (Soldier’s exotic amulet) and it was:
250 gold ingots
250 emerald orbs
250 crystalline dust
50 mystic coinsBy BLTC prices, this was an 80 gold amulet that’s only exotic and no one can ever see. What did I pay for? Exotic level Soldier’s…..not attainable through normal play unless you are in one of two dungeons and the RNG gods are not only smiling but drunk as well.
250 giant eyes, however, would cost about 375 gold at today’s buy price….that’s insane. I can see why you went the route of the moldy bags.
You do know that you can buy Soldier exotic gear (armor + amulet – rings – earrings – back piece) with 42000 karma a piece? Its one of the easiest armor sets to buy without every setting foot in dungeon or relying on RNG
Yeah, you and Wanze informed me but I needed to do more research and ended up rushing to get something finished. Now that I know, I am getting my exotic spineguard from Grenth and the Cavalier’s ring I need from Balthazar. It was my first brush with Soldier’s gear, I claim ignorance but I did pay the price for not doing my homework.
Update, this works like a charm, thanks for everyone’s input….
The tree thing sounds like Vizier’s Tower which is in Straits of Devastaion, next door to Mount Maelstrom. It’s also 3 different things. A Jumping Puzzle, a vista and a skill challenge.
OK i found it, the one I actually meant was the lightfoot passage vista in Straits of Devestation. i knew it was in the corner of the map somewhere.. thats what i meant by ‘cave’ vista though, it was probably one of the hardest vistas for me to get, mainly coz i was such a fat charr who couldnt get the jumps right, one small slip up and I’d end up falling to my death xD
My problem with this one was related to which trunk to jump to because the lay of it made me go all the way, have drop and not die and start over. Once I took the risk on the one that looked too steep to climb, it was cake….
